RESUMEN

Geosmin is an environmental pollutant that causes off-flavor in water and aquatic products. The high occurrence of geosmin contamination in aquatic systems and aquaculture raises public awareness, however, few studies have investigated the response pathways of geosmin stress on freshwater fish. In this research, grass carp were exposed to 50 µg/L geosmin for 96 h, liver tissue was sequenced and validated using real-time qPCR. In total of 528 up-regulated genes and 488 down-regulated genes were observed, includes cytochrome P450 and uridine diphosphate (UDP)-glucuronosyltransferase related genes. KEGG analysis showed that chemical carcinogenesis-DNA adducts, metabolism of xenobiotics by cytochrome P450, drug metabolism-cytochrome P450 pathway was enriched. Common genes from the target genes of microRNAs and differential expression genes are enriched in metabolism of xenobiotics cytochrome P450 pathway. Two miRNAs (dre-miR-146a and miR-212-3p) down regulated their target genes (LOC127510138 and adh5, respectively) which are enriched cytochrome P450 related pathway. The results present that geosmin is genetoxic to grass carp and indicate that cytochrome P450 system and UDP-glucuronosyltransferase play essential roles in biotransformation of geosmin. MicroRNAs regulate the biotransformation of geosmin by targeting specific genes, which contributes to the development of strategies to manage its negative impacts in both natural and artificial environments.

L-proline is widely used in the fields of food, medicine and agriculture, and is also an important raw material for the synthesis of trans-4-hydroxy-L-proline. In this study, enhancing the production of L-proline by metabolic engineering was investigated. Three genes, proB, proA and proC, were introduced into Escherichia coli BL21 by molecular biology technology to increase the metabolic flow of L-proline from glucose. The genes putP and proP related to the proline transfer were knocked out by CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology to weaken the feedback inhibition of proB to increase the production of L-proline. The fermentation curves of the engineered strain at different glucose concentrations were determined, and a glucose concentration of 10 g/L was chosen to expand the batch culture to 1 L shake flask. Ultimately, through these efforts, the titer of L-proline reached 832.19 mg/L in intermittent glucose addition fermentation in a 1 L shake flask.

A 50-day feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of mulberry leaf powder water extract (MLE) on the growth performance, immunity, antioxidant, meat quality and intestinal microbiota of yellow feather broilers. A total of 720 birds (initial body weight 40.07 ± 0.05 g) were randomly distributed into four groups with six replicates per group and 30 birds per replicate. Four diets were formulated with 0% (CON), 200 mg/kg MLE (MLE200), 400 mg/kg MLE (MLE400) and 600 mg/kg MLE (MLE600) supplementation. Results showed that the addition of 200-600 mg/kg MLE to the diet significantly increased the body weight (BW) and average daily weight gain (ADG), but feed to gain ratio (F/G) were linearly decreased (p = 0.045) as dietary MLE increased. Birds fed MLE400 had higher (p < 0.05) total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), interleukin-10 (Il-10), secretory immunoglobulin A (SIgA) and complement 3 (C3) contents than those fed CON, whereas MLE400 had lower malondialdehyde (MDA) content than CON (p < 0.05). Analysis of 16 S rDNA indicated that supplementation with 200 mg/kg MLE increased the Shannon indices in the caecum (p < 0.05). Supplementation with MLE decreased the abundance of the phylum Proteobacteria and genus Helicobacter, and increased the abundance of the phylum Bacteroidetes in the caecum in broiler chickens (p < 0.05). The drip loss rate in the MLE600 was significantly diminished (p < 0.05), whereas the shear force was significantly elevated (p < 0.05). In summary, dietary supplementation with MLE can effectively improve growth performance, intestinal immunity, serum antioxidant capacity, meat quality and intestinal microbiota of yellow feather broilers. The most appropriate MLE supplementation level was 400 mg/kg. This study provides a practical strategy for the dietary application of MLE in yellow feather broilers.

Spinal cord injury (SCI), resulting in damage of the normal structure and function of the spinal cord, would do great harm to patients, physically and psychologically. The mechanism of SCI is very complex. At present, lots of studies have reported that autophagy was involved in the secondary injury process of SCI, and several researchers also found that calcium ions (Ca2+) played an important role in SCI by regulating necrosis, autophagy, or apoptosis. However, to our best of knowledge, no studies have linked the spinal cord mechanical injury, intracellular Ca2+, and autophagy in series. In this study, we have established an in vitro model of SCI using neural cells from fetal rats to explore the relationship among them, and found that mechanical injury could promote the intracellular Ca2+ concentration, and the increased Ca2+ level activated autophagy through the CaMKKß/AMPK/mTOR pathway. Additionally, we found that apoptosis was also involved in this pathway. Thus, our study provides new insights into the specific mechanisms of SCI and may open up new avenues for the treatment of SCI.

BACKGROUND: The cardiac magnetic resonance tissue tracking (CMR-TT) technique was used to obtain left atrial strain and strain rate in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and to evaluate the utility of this technique in the quantitative assessment of myocardial infarction for distinguishing acute from chronic myocardial infarction. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 36 consecutive patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and 29 patients with chronic myocardial infarction (CMI) who underwent CMR and 30 controls. Left atrial (LA) and ventricular functions were quantified by volumetric, and CMR-TT derived strain analysis from long and short left ventricular view cines. Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) analysis was used to determine the diagnostic accuracy of CMR-TT strain parameters for discriminating between acute and chronic myocardial infarction. RESULTS: AMI and CMI participants had impaired LA reservoir function, conduit function and LA booster pump dysfunction compared to the controls. LA strain was more sensitive than LV global strain for the assessment of the MI stage. Peak late-negative SR yielded the best areas under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.879, showing differentiation between acute and chronic myocardial infarction of all the LA strain parameters obtained. The highest significant differences between chronic myocardial infarction and normal myocardium were also found in the LV strain (p < 0.001) and LA functional parameters (p < 0.001), but there was no difference between AMI and normals. CONCLUSIONS: CMR-TT-derived LA strain is a potential and robust tool in demonstrating impaired LA mechanics and quantifying LA dynamics, which have high sensitivity and specificity in the differential diagnosis of acute versus chronic myocardial infarction. Their use is thus worth popularizing in clinical application.

Metal detoxification is essential for bacteria's survival in adverse environments and their pathogenesis in hosts. Understanding the underlying mechanisms is crucial for devising antibacterial treatments. In the Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli, membrane-bound sensor CusS and its response regulator CusR together regulate the transcription of the cus operon that plays important roles in cells' resistance to copper/silver, and they belong to the two-component systems (TCSs) that are ubiquitous across various organisms and regulate diverse cellular functions. In vitro protein reconstitution and associated biochemical/physical studies have provided significant insights into the functions and mechanisms of CusS-CusR and related TCSs. Such studies are challenging regarding multidomain membrane proteins like CusS and also lack the physiological environment, particularly the native spatial context of proteins inside a cell. Here, we use stroboscopic single-molecule imaging and tracking to probe the dynamic behaviors of both CusS and CusR in live cells, in combination with protein- or residue-specific genetic manipulations. We find that copper stress leads to a cellular protein concentration increase and a concurrent mobilization of CusS out of clustered states in the membrane. We show that the mobilized CusS has significant interactions with CusR for signal transduction and that CusS's affinity toward CusR switches on upon sensing copper at the interfacial metal-binding sites in CusS's periplasmic sensor domains, prior to ATP binding and autophosphorylation at CusS's cytoplasmic kinase domain(s). The observed CusS mobilization upon stimulation and its surprisingly early interaction with CusR likely ensure an efficient signal transduction by providing proper conformation and avoiding futile cross talks.

Urbanization carries essential influences to ecosystem of soil bacteria in coastal cities. Comprehending the patterns and drivers of bacterial diversity are essential to understanding how soil ecosystems respond to environmental change. This study aimed to explore how soil bacterial community (SBC) response to distinct urbanization of coastal cities on composition, assembly process and potential function in Guangdong province, south China. 72 samples from 24 sample sites within 3 cities were included in the study. Soil chemical properties were analyzed, and the bacterial community were investigated by high-throughout sequencing. Proteobacteria and Acidobacteria were the main phyla. Assembly processes remained in stochastic processes and co-occurrence network of SBC kept stable, while urbanization altered SBC by influencing the dominant phyla. The indicators of communities in coastal city soils were the genera gamma_proteobacterium and beta_proteobacterium. Urbanized extent was the non-negligible factor which affected soil bacterial community, despite the total carbon was still the most vital. The impact of urbanization on bacterial communities might follow a non-linear pattern. Faprotax function prediction showed different urbanized coastal city soils share similar metabolic potential. Our study improved our understanding of the response of soil bacterial communities to urbanization in subtropical coastal cities and offered a useful strategy to monitor the ecology risk toward the soil under urbanization.

A new insulin-like growth factor (Igf) subtype 3 (igf3) has recently been found in the bony fish orange-spotted grouper (Epinephelus coioides). However, the role of igf3 in the maturation of the ovary and sex differentiation in E. coioides is currently unknown. We examined the ovarian localization and receptor binding of the novel ortholog Igf3 using qRT-PCR, and Western blotting, combined with in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry methods. Results demonstrated the presence of igf3 mRNA and protein in mature oocytes. Furthermore, Igf3 protein expression was not detected in testis, brain, kidney and liver homogenates. The calculated molecular weight of Igf3 was 22 kDa, which was consistent with the deduced amino acid sequence from the full-length open reading frame. The immunoreactivity showed that Igf3 was strongly present in the follicle staining fully-grown stage. The igf3 mRNA expression level was significantly positively correlated with ovarian follicular maturation. Meanwhile, Igf3 increased germinal-vesicle breakdown in a time- and dose-dependent manner. In vitro, treatment of primary ovarian cells with Igf3 up-regulated significantly the mRNA expression level of genes related to sex determination and reproduction such as forkhead boxl2 (foxl2), dosage-sensitive sex reversal adrenal hypoplasia critical region on chromosome x gene 1 (dax1), cytochrome P450 family 19 subfamily member 1 a (cyp19a1a), cytochrome P450 family 11 subfamily a member 1 a (cyp11a1a) and luteinizing hormone receptor 1 (lhr1). Overall, our results demonstrated that igf3 promotes the maturation of the ovary and plays an important role in sex differentiation in E. coioides.

Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) was frequently assessed in COVID-19 infection and reported to be associated with adverse outcomes. However, there was no consensus regarding the optimal cutoff value for RDW. Records of 98 patients with COVID-19 from the First People's Hospital of Jingzhou were reviewed. They were divided into two groups according to the cutoff value for RDW on admission by receiver operator characteristic curve analysis: ≤11.5% (n = 50) and >11.5% (n = 48). The association of RDW with the severity and outcomes of COVID-19 was analyzed. The receiver operating characteristic curve indicated that the RDW was a good discrimination factor for identifying COVID-19 severity (area under the curve = 0.728, 95% CI: 0.626-0.830, p < 0.001). Patients with RDW > 11.5% more frequently suffered from critical COVID-19 than those with RDW ≤ 11.5% (62.5% vs. 26.0%, p < 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed RDW to be an independent predictor for critical illness due to COVID-19 (OR = 2.40, 95% CI: 1.27-4.55, p = 0.007). A similar result was obtained when we included RDW > 11.5% into another model instead of RDW as a continuous variable (OR = 5.41, 95% CI: 1.53-19.10, p = 0.009). RDW, as an inexpensive and routinely measured parameter, showed promise as a predictor for critical illness in patients with COVID-19 infection. RDW > 11.5% could be the optimal cutoff to discriminate critical COVID-19 infection.

PURPOSES: The effects of preoperative statin treatment on acute kidney injury (AKI) remain controversial, and current clinical evidence regarding statin use in the elderly undergoing valve replacement surgery (VRS) is insufficient. The present study aimed to investigate the association between preoperative statin treatment and AKI after VRS in the elderly. METHODS: Three thousand seven hundred ninety-one elderly patients (≥ 60 years) undergoing VRS were included in this study and divided into 2 groups, according to the receipt of statin treatment before the operation: statin users (n = 894) and non-users (n = 2897). We determined the associations between statin use, AKI, and other adverse events using a multivariate model and propensity score-matched analysis. RESULTS: After propensity score-matched analysis, there was no difference between statin users and non-users in regard to postoperative AKI (72.5% vs. 72.4%, p = 0.954), in-hospital death (5.7% vs. 5.1%, p = 0.650) and 1-year mortality (log-rank = 0, p = 0.986). The multivariate analysis showed that statin use was not an independent risk factor for postoperative AKI (OR = 0.97, 95% CI: 0.90-1.17, p = 0.733), in-hospital mortality (OR = 1.12, 95% CI: 0.75-1.68, p = 0.568), or 1-year mortality (HR = 0.95, 95% CI: 0.70-1.28, p = 0.715). CONCLUSION: Preoperative statin treatment did not significantly affect the risk of AKI among elderly patients undergoing VRS.

A highly sensitive silica-alumina (Si-Al)-modified capacitive non-Faradaic glucose biosensor was introduced to monitor gestational diabetes. Glucose oxidase (GOx) was attached to the Si-Al electrode surface as the probe through amine-modification followed by glutaraldehyde premixed GOx as aldehyde-amine chemistry. This Si-Al (∼50 nm) modified electrode surface has increased the current flow upon binding of GOx with glucose. Capacitance values were increased by increasing the glucose concentrations. A mean capacitance value was plotted and the detection limit was found as 0.03 mg/mL with the regression coefficient value, R² = 0.9782 [y = 0.8391x + 1.338] on the linear range between 0.03 and 1 mg/mL. Further, a biofouling experiment with fructose and galactose did not increase the capacitance, indicating the specific glucose detection. This Si-Al-modified capacitance sensor detects a lower level of glucose presence and helps in monitoring gestational diabetes.

Osteosarcoma is a type of tumor originating from the bone cells, most often from long bones. Children and adolescents are mainly affected by osteosarcoma. Identifying the condition with osteosarcoma is mandatory to provide proper treatment to the affected patients. This research work has introduced an identification of an osteosarcoma biomarker "miRNA-21" on the interdigitated electrochemical sensor by nuclease digestion. The target RNA sequence of miRNA-21 was hybridized to the capture DNA and placed on the sensing electrode surface with the aid of the biotin-streptavidin interaction. The unhybridized immobilized single-standard capture DNA was digested by S1-nuclease. The current response of the digestion level was considered as the duplex formation between the target and capture DNA. Using this technique, the detection limit of the target was reached to 1 fM and a similar response of current was noted with the target RNA-spiked human serum, indicating the selective identification of target RNA. Further, single mismatched, triple mismatched, and random miRNA sequences (miRNA-195) failed to interact with the immobilized capture DNA, representing the specific identification of target RNA. This nuclease digestion technique with miRNA-21 identification helps in detecting osteosarcoma and related issues.

Physical forces have a profound effect on growth, morphology, locomotion, and survival of organisms. At the level of individual cells, the role of mechanical forces is well recognized in eukaryotic physiology, but much less is known about prokaryotic organisms. Recent findings suggest an effect of physical forces on bacterial shape, cell division, motility, virulence, and biofilm initiation, but it remains unclear how mechanical forces applied to a bacterium are translated at the molecular level. In Gram-negative bacteria, multicomponent protein complexes can form rigid links across the cell envelope and are therefore subject to physical forces experienced by the cell. Here we manipulate tensile and shear mechanical stress in the bacterial cell envelope and use single-molecule tracking to show that octahedral shear (but not hydrostatic) stress within the cell envelope promotes disassembly of the tripartite efflux complex CusCBA, a system used by Escherichia coli to resist copper and silver toxicity. By promoting disassembly of this protein complex, mechanical forces within the cell envelope make the bacteria more susceptible to metal toxicity. These findings demonstrate that mechanical forces can inhibit the function of cell envelope protein assemblies in bacteria and suggest the possibility that other multicomponent, transenvelope efflux complexes may be sensitive to mechanical forces including complexes involved in antibiotic resistance, cell division, and translocation of outer membrane components. By modulating the function of proteins within the cell envelope, mechanical stress has the potential to regulate multiple processes required for bacterial survival and growth.

Microplastics are ubiquitous in soil ecosystems all over the world through source and migration. It is even estimated that the content of microplastics in terrestrial ecosystems exceeds the number of microplastics entering sea ecosystems. However, compared with the research on microplastics in marine ecosystems, the research and discussion on microplastics in soil ecosystems are still less. Transportation, film mulching and sewage sludge are three main sources of soil microplastics. The abundance, polymer type, size and shape of the microplastics are related to the source and they help to clarify the source. The characteristics of microplastics, farming measures, soil animal activities and other factors promote the migration of microplastics, which bring new challenges to the soil ecosystems and humans. This article summarizes the latest research findings on the effects of soil microplasticity on soil properties, plants, animals and microorganisms. The analysis methods of microplastics in soil can refer to the analysis methods of microplastics of aquatic sediments, because soil and aquatic sediments are similar, both of which are complex solid substrates. At present, the development of analytical methods is limited due to the complex matrix of soil and the small volume of microplastics, which requires continuous development and innovation. Through the summary and analysis of related articles, this article reviews the distribution, sources, migration, influence and analysis methods of soil microplastics. This article also critically analyzes the deficiencies in the studies of microplastics in the soil ecosystems, and made some suggestions for future work. The microplastics in soil ecosystems need further research and summary, which will help people further understand the potential hazards of microplastics.

Lupus nephritis (LN) occurs with inflammatory lesion in patients suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor associated factor 3 (TRAF3) is an important mediator in inflammation. To explore the roles of TRAF3 in LN, the LN mouse model was firstly established with intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of pristine. Our results found that the amount of urinary protein was increased evidently at day 28, and renal damage occurred in the LN mouse model, but the TRAF3 knockdown reduced the urinary protein and alleviated the inflammatory lesion. The proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-1ß, IL-17a, IFN-γ and IgM, IgG antibody were enriched, but there was little amount of IL-10 in the LN mouse model. Moreover, the amount of CD40+ B cells, CD4+ T cells sub-type, Th17 cells were abundant, and the proteins TRAF3, TRAF2, NF-κBp52, IKKα, ICAM1 in the kidney were highly expressed in the LN mouse model. However, TRAF3 knockdown enhanced the production of IL-10 and reduced the amount of pro-inflammatory cytokines, immunoglobulin, and the protein expressions of TRAF3, TRAF2, NF-κBp52, IKKα, ICAM1. In conclusion, TRAF3 plays a role in LN by regulating Th17 cell and Treg cell balance as well as NF-κB signaling pathway in mice.

The low mechanical efficiency of metal belt's continuously variable transmission (CVT) limits its application in new energy vehicles. To further improve CVT efficiency and reduce the energy consumption of electric vehicles (EVs) with CVT, this paper proposes a pure electric CVT configuration and a clamping force control strategy. The slip characteristics of CVT are obtained through a bench test, the dynamic model of CVT slip is established, and a clamping force fuzzy control strategy is designed. The strategy is studied by simulation under extreme conditions and standard driving cycles. The simulation results show that the proposed clamping force control strategy has good adaptability. Under extreme conditions, this strategy can ensure that CVT does not undergo macro slip, while reducing the clamping force by 12.86-21.65%. Energy consumption per 100 km is 14.90 kWh in NEDC, which is 6.67% lower compared with the traditional strategy. CVT average efficiency and average transmission efficiency increased by 3.71% and 6.40%. The research results demonstrate that adjusting the CVT clamping force through fuzzy control based on the slip rate can improve the CVT efficiency and energy economy of EVs, which provides a certain reference for CVT clamping force control strategy development and the application of CVT on EVs.

Epinephelus coioides is a fish species with high economic value due to its delicious meat, high protein content, and rich fatty acid nutrition. It has become a high-economic fish in southern parts of China and some other Southeast Asian countries. In this study, the myostatin nucleic acid vaccine was constructed and used to immunize E. coioides. The results from body length and weight measurements indicated the myostatin nucleic acid vaccine promoted E. coioides growth performance by increasing muscle fiber size. The results from RT-qPCR analysis showed that myostatin nucleic acid vaccine upregulated the expression of myod, myog and p21 mRNA, downregulated the expression of smad3 and mrf4 mRNA. This preliminary study is the first report that explored the role of myostatin in E. coioides and showed positive effects of autologous nucleic acid vaccine on the muscle growth of E. coioides. Further experiments with increased numbers of animals and different doses are needed for its application to E. coiodes aquaculture production.

Chronic HCV infection can lead to cirrhosis and is associated with increased mortality. Interleukin (IL)-10-producing B cells (B10 cells) are regulatory cells that suppress cellular immune responses. Here, we aimed to determine whether HCV induces B10 cells and assess the roles of the B10 cells during HCV infection. HCV-induced B10 cells were enriched in CD19hi and CD1dhi CD5+ cell populations. HCV predominantly triggered the TLR2-MyD88-NF-κB and AP-1 signaling pathways to drive IL-10 production by B cells. In a humanized murine model of persistent HCV infection, to neutralize IL-10 produced by B10 cells, mice were treated with pcCD19scFv-IL-10R, which contains the genes coding the anti-CD19 single-chain variable fragment (CD19scFv) and the extracellular domain of IL-10 receptor alpha chain (sIL-10Ra). This treatment resulted in significant reduction of B10 cells in spleen and liver, increase of cytotoxic CD8+ T-cell responses against HCV, and low viral loads in infected humanized mice. Our results indicate that targeting B10 cells via neutralization of IL-10 may offer a novel strategy to enhance anti-HCV immunotherapy.

The effect of adsorbed adatoms on the structural stability and electronic properties of monolayer N2P6 have been systematically studied via first-principles simulation methods. It is found that pristine N2P6 is an indirect 0.21 eV band gap semiconductor, with a pleated honeycomb-like structure similar to phosphorene. The calculation results show that adsorbed adatoms can modify the properties of monolayer N2P6 effectively. The degree of local distortion strongly depends on the electronegativity and size of adatoms, also the adsorption energy ranges from 0.3 to 5.8 eV depending on the species of adatoms. The electronic properties show metallic behavior with several adsorbed metal atoms (Li, Na, Al, K, Cu, Ni, and Zn) and some non-metal atoms (H, F, P, and Cl), while adsorbed O, S, Ca, and Si atoms still remain semiconductors. The systems of Ni and Zn adatoms show ferromagnetic behavior, and adsorbed Mg exhibits a half-metallic character. Our theoretical studies indicate that N2P6 possesses potential application in the field of gas sensors.

BACKGROUND: Although maternal deaths are rare in developed regions, the morbidity associated with severe postpartum hemorrhage (SPPH) remains a major problem. To determine the prevalence and risk factors of SPPH, we analyzed data of women who gave birth in Guangzhou Medical Centre for Critical Pregnant Women, which received a large quantity of critically ill obstetric patients who were transferred from other hospitals in Southern China. METHODS: In this study, we conducted a retrospective case-control study to determine the prevalence and risk factors for SPPH among a cohort of women who gave birth after 28 weeks of gestation between January 2015 and August 2019. SPPH was defined as an estimated blood loss ≥1000 mL and total blood transfusion≥4 units. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify independent risk factors for SPPH. RESULTS: SPPH was observed in 532 mothers (1.56%) among the total population of 34,178 mothers. Placenta-related problems (55.83%) were the major identified causes of SPPH, while uterine atony without associated retention of placental tissues accounted for 38.91%. The risk factors for SPPH were maternal age < 18 years (adjusted OR [aOR] = 11.52, 95% CI: 1.51-87.62), previous cesarean section (aOR = 2.57, 95% CI: 1.90-3.47), history of postpartum hemorrhage (aOR = 4.94, 95% CI: 2.63-9.29), conception through in vitro fertilization (aOR = 1.78, 95% CI: 1.31-2.43), pre-delivery anemia (aOR = 2.37, 95% CI: 1.88-3.00), stillbirth (aOR = 2.61, 95% CI: 1.02-6.69), prolonged labor (aOR = 5.24, 95% CI: 3.10-8.86), placenta previa (aOR = 9.75, 95% CI: 7.45-12.75), placenta abruption (aOR = 3.85, 95% CI: 1.91-7.76), placenta accrete spectrum (aOR = 8.00, 95% CI: 6.20-10.33), and macrosomia (aOR = 2.30, 95% CI: 1.38-3.83). CONCLUSION: Maternal age < 18 years, previous cesarean section, history of PPH, conception through IVF, pre-delivery anemia, stillbirth, prolonged labor, placenta previa, placental abruption, PAS, and macrosomia were risk factors for SPPH. Extra vigilance during the antenatal and peripartum periods is needed to identify women who have risk factors and enable early intervention to prevent SPPH.
