[Eponyms in musculoskeletal radiology: stories of bones, persons, and civilizations]. / Epónimos en radiología del esqueleto: cuentos de huesos, hombres y civilizaciones.

Eponyms reflect the history of medicine, of disease, and of physicians, but eponyms also reflect the history of the societies in which these physicians lived. Both loved and hated, eponyms are at the center of an interminable debate about whether they should continue to be used or whether they should disappear, and this debate has become more intense since some scientific societies have purged their terminologies of eponyms related to Nazism. Eponyms abound in conventional musculoskeletal radiology. In this article, rather than attempt an exhaustive review of all these eponyms, we take a few representative examples to illustrate the contributions of eponyms to medicine and the history of medicine.

[Benign coloduodenal fistula caused by inflammatory pseudotumor of the colon]. / Fístula coloduodenal benigna por pseudotumor inflamatorio del colon.

We present a case of benign coloduodenal fistula, due to an inflammatory pseudotumor of the hepatic flexure of the colon, that was found included in a calcified hepatic cavity, presumably hydatic, that opened through a large fistulous orifice into the second duodenal portion. A barium enema satisfactorily demonstrated the colonic lesion and a fistulous tract. Although the preoperative diagnosis was of colonic neoplasm fistulized into the duodenum, the histopathological study of the surgical specimen did not demonstrate malignancy.

The development of quinolone derivatives has completely changed the treatment and prognosis of malignant external otitis. Two cases are reported and the current diagnostic criteria are reviewed.

The authors present the evolutive course of three cases of deep cervical infection. A discussion about the influence of the surgical and antibiotical treatment is done.

[Image diagnosis and pleomorphic adenoma]. / Diagnóstico por imagen y adenoma pleomorfo.

We examined the imaging technical findings of 11 benign pleomorphic adenomas of major salivary glands. The imaging technical included sialography, echography, computed tomography and gammagraphy. We compared the diagnostic usefulness of each of these imaging technical. The purpose of this paper is to identify the actual advantages, disadvantages and uses of these diagnostic methods.

[Segmental multicystic renal dysplasia: radiological findings and differential diagnosis]. / Displasia renal multiquística segmentaria: hallazgos radiológicos y diagnóstico diferencial.

Multicystic dysplasia of the kidney is the second most common cause of renal masses in newborns after hydronephrosis and the most frequent cause of cystic masses in childhood. We present the case of a cystic renal mass in an infant that was definitively diagnosed at histological examination to be segmental cystic dysplasia. Cystic renal dysplasia usually involves an entire kidney, and segmental multicystic renal dysplasia is rare. We review the etiology and pathogenesis of this entity, the radiological findings, and the main differential diagnoses with the aim of establishing the correct diagnosis and differentiating this entity from other focal cystic kidney lesions affecting children.
