RESUMEN

This study aimed to assess the prognostic value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computer tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in patients with relapsed multiple myeloma (MM). Fifty-one consecutive patients with relapsed MM were enrolled in this retrospective study. 18F-FDG parameters based on the Italian Myeloma Criteria for PET Use (IMPeTUs) and clinical data were analyzed for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). The Cox proportional risk model was used for univariate and multivariate analysis, and Kaplan-Meier survival curves were used for survival analysis. The median length of follow-up was 20 months (IQR, 5-29 months), the median PFS for the entire cohort was 8 months (IQR, 3-17 months) and the median OS was 21 months (IQR, 8-49 months). Multivariate survival analysis demonstrated that the Deauville score of BM > 3 [HR 2.900, 95% CI (1.011, 8.319), P = 0.048] and the presence of EMD [HR 3.134, 95% CI (1.245, 7.891), P = 0.015] were independent predictors of poor PFS. The presence of EMD [HR 12.777, 95% CI (1.825, 89.461), P = 0.010] and the reduced platelets count [HR 7.948, 95% CI (1.236, 51.099), P = 0.029] were adversely associated with OS. 18F-FDG PET/CT parameters based on IMPeTUs have prognostic significance in patients with relapsed MM.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: Apical aneurysm in apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a very rare condition in clinical practice. Some studies have reported abnormal uptake of 18 F-FDG and 18 F-FAPI in HCM, respectively. We presented a case of FAPI and FDG imaging in a patient with apical aneurysm in apical HCM, and further analyzed the discrepancy of spatial distribution pattern of these 2 radiotracers.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Accurate preoperative localization of tumor-bearing lesions is crucial for the successful surgical management of suspected recurrent parathyroid carcinoma. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of 99m-technetium-labeled methoxyisobutylisonitrile ( 99m Tc-MIBI) single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) and cervical ultrasound, individually and in combination, for preoperative localization of recurrent/metastatic lesions. We also analyzed the value of 99m Tc-MIBI SPECT/CT in detecting ectopic lesions in patients with suspected recurrent parathyroid carcinoma. METHODS: Twenty-nine patients with suspected recurrent parathyroid carcinoma were included in this retrospective cohort study. Patients underwent preoperative 99m Tc-MIBI SPECT/CT and cervical ultrasound. The reference standard was postsurgical histopathology. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value, and accuracy of the two diagnostic modalities alone and in combination were analyzed. RESULTS: Of the 29 patients, histopathological results revealed 48 metastases/recurrent lesions in 26 patients. The diagnostic value of 99m Tc-MIBI SPECT/CT, cervical ultrasound, and the two modalities in combination were compared for the 27 patients who underwent new cervical surgery. Patient-level analysis of the combined use of 99m Tc-MIBI SPECT/CT and cervical ultrasound had the highest sensitivity (100.00%) and accuracy (96.30%). At the lesion level, 99m Tc-MIBI SPECT/CT had the highest specificity and PPV, at 100.00% respectively, whereas the combined use of 99m Tc-MIBI SPECT/CT and cervical ultrasound had the highest sensitivity, at 97.62%. Moreover, 99m Tc-MIBI SPECT/CT detected six ectopic lesions, and five of them showed increased 99m Tc-MIBI uptake. CONCLUSIONS: The combined use of 99m Tc-MIBI SPECT/CT and cervical ultrasound is the most efficient strategy in the diagnosis of parathyroid carcinoma relapse, whereas 99m Tc-MIBI SPECT/CT is the preferred method for localizing and analyzing cervical and extra-cervical lesions before the new surgery.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: Angiomyolipoma is a common benign tumor in the kidney. Previous publication reported that renal angiomyolipoma had very low to low uptake of 18F-FDG. We report a case of pathologically proven angiomyolipoma in the left kidney with intense 18F-FDG and 18F-ALF-NOTA-FAPI uptake.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: Several case reports have shown fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI) imaging to be superior to 18F-FDG imaging in the delineation of primary gastric signet-ring cell carcinoma lesions. In this case, 18F-AlF-NOTA-FAPI PET/CT showed more metastatic lesions that had more increased activity than 18F-FDG PET/CT. However, neither 18F-AlF-NOTA-FAPI nor 18F-FDG imaging revealed any abnormal uptake in the primary gastric lesion, which was subsequently demonstrated to be the primary lesion by pathology.

RESUMEN

The unconfined compression and tension experiments of the intervertebral disc were conducted by applying an optimized digital image correlation technique, and the internal strain distribution was analysed for the disc. It was found that the axial strain values of different positions increased obviously with the increase in loads, while inner annulus fibrosus and posterior annulus fibrosus experienced higher axial strains than the outer annulus fibrosus and anterior annulus fibrosus. Deep annulus fibrosus exhibited higher compressive and tensile axial strains than superficial annulus fibrosus for the anterior region, while there was an opposite result for the posterior region. It was noted that all samples demonstrated a nonlinear stress-strain profile in the process of deforming, and an elastic region was shown once the sample was deformed beyond its toe region.

RESUMEN

This work reports the development of a selective, sensitive and rapid spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of reduced glutathione (GSH) in the presence of relatively high levels of cysteine (Cys) in clinical and biological samples using 1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-8-phenyl-(2-maleimide)-difluoroboradiaza-s-indacene (TMPAB-o-M). The fluorescence from TMPAB-o-M is strongly quenched by its maleimide moiety, but after reaction with thiol, the fluorescence is restored with a 350-fold intensity increase (fluorescence quantum yield from 0.002 to 0.73). In H(3)Cit-Na(2)HPO(4) buffer (pH 7.40), the derivatization is completed in just 5 min under 37 degrees C. The linear range is 0.005-0.2 micromol L(-1), with detection limit of 1.1 x 10(-10)mol L(-1) (signal-to-noise ratio=3). Almost all amino acids, including Cys, impose no interference even if present at relatively high concentrations (amino acids:GSH=100:1, Cys:GSH=1:1, molar ratio, C(GSH)=3 x 10(-7)mol L(-1)). The sample can be used directly without further treatment after the protein is removed. The developed method is precise with a relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) lower than 5.0% (n=6) and has been applied to the determination of GSH in human blood and pig's liver with recoveries between 94.4 and 105.6%.

RESUMEN

The design, synthesis and properties of a new derivatizing reagent, 1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-8-phenyl-(4-iodoacetamido)difluoroboradiaza-s-indacene (TMPAB-I), for thiol groups are presented. Using the derivatization of TMPAB-I with thiols, a new high-performance liquid chromatographic method for measuring low-molecular-weight thiol-containing compounds, including coenzyme A (CoA), glutathione, N-acetylcysteine, cysteine, homocysteine (HCys) and 6-mercaptopurine has been developed. The reaction of TMPAB-I with thiols is specific, fast and stable for both TMPAB-I and the derivatives. A baseline separation of all the six derivatives is achieved by isocratic elution on reversed-phase column within 20 min with detection wavelengths of 500 and 510 nm for the excitation and emission, respectively, and the limits of detection (signal-to-noise ratio=3) are from 1.8 fmol (CoA) to 14.0 fmol (HCys), respectively, per 20 microL injection. The utility of the proposed method has been validated by measuring thiol-containing compounds in human plasma samples from healthy persons and patients with hypertension, with recoveries of 94.2-106.8%.

RESUMEN

A new fluorescent probe 1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-2,6-dicarbethoxy-8-(3',4'-diaminophenyl)-difluoroboradiaza-s-indacene (TMDCDABODIPY) has been developed to detect nitrite in meat products and vegetables. The fluorescence of TMDCDABODIPY is very weak, but when it reacts with nitrite, a strong fluorescent triazole forms in aqueous medium at room temperature, which offers the advantage of specificity and sensitivity for the determination of nitrite. The fluorescence intensity was linear over a nitrite concentration of 9-300 nmol l(-1) with a detection limit of 0.21 nmol l(-1) (S/N=3). The proposed method has been used for the determination of trace nitrite in food products with the recoveries of 94.62-105.48%.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinical effects of combined periodontal and orthodontic method in treating labial displacement of anterior teeth caused by periodontitis. METHODS: 21 cases with periodontitis and fly-out of anterior teeth were selected. After the inflammation was controlled by essential periodontal therapy, the anterior teeth were allied by edgewise appliances; meanwhile, periodontal care and occlusal adjustment were conducted to control inflammation and occlusal trauma, until normal occlusion was established. A total of 74 teeth were treated, the periodontal probing depth and the degree of alveolar ridge resorption was recorded before and after treatment, respectively. All the data were statistically analyzed by Ridit test and Chi-square test. RESULTS: After 1-2 years of follow-up, all cases under 40 years got satisfactory effects, with significantly decreased periodontal probing depth (P<0.01) and alveolar ridge (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Combined periodontal and orthodontic treatment was effective in the management of periodontitis, occlusal trauma and teeth alignment, and the effects were stable for a relatively long period. But patients over 40 years was not suitable for the treatment.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of periodontal initial therapy on the level of glycated hemoglobin(HbAIc) and periodontal status in non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus(NIDDM)patients with periodontitis. METHODS: 33 cases with NIDDM periodontitis were included in the study. The periodontal therapy included oral hygiene instruction, ultrasonic scaling and subgingival scaling. The level of glycosylated hemoglobin and periodontal status before treatment and four weeks after treatment were determined and compared. RESULTS: The percentage of bleeding on probing and probing depth were significantly reduced in all patients after periodontal therapy. The glycosylated hemoglobin level was significantly decreased in patients with advanced periodontitis, while patients with moderate periodontitis showed no changes following therapy. CONCLUSION: The result of periodontal therapy in the diabetic patients was satisfied in short time. It can reduce the level of glycated hemoglobin.
