RESUMEN

With strong reducibility and high redox potential, the hydride ion (H-) is a reactive hydrogen species and an energy carrier. Materials that conduct pure H- at ambient conditions will be enablers of advanced clean energy storage and electrochemical conversion technologies1,2. However, rare earth trihydrides, known for fast H migration, also exhibit detrimental electronic conductivity3-5. Here we show that by creating nanosized grains and defects in the lattice, the electronic conductivity of LaHx can be suppressed by more than five orders of magnitude. This transforms LaHx to a superionic conductor at -40 °C with a record high H- conductivity of 1.0 × 10-2 S cm-1 and a low diffusion barrier of 0.12 eV. A room-temperature all-solid-state hydride cell is demonstrated.

RESUMEN

Most of the known regulatory mechanisms that curb inflammatory gene expression target pre-transcription-initiation steps, and evidence for post-initiation regulation of inflammatory gene expression remains scarce. We found that the transcriptional repressor Hes1 suppressed production of CXCL1, a chemokine that is crucial for recruiting neutrophils. Hes1 negatively regulated neutrophil recruitment in vivo in a manner that was dependent on macrophage-produced CXCL1, and it attenuated the severity of inflammatory arthritis. Mechanistically, inhibition of Cxcl1 expression by Hes1 did not involve modification of transcription initiation. Instead, Hes1 inhibited signal-induced recruitment of the positive transcription-elongation complex P-TEFb and thereby prevented phosphorylation of RNA polymerase II at Ser2 and productive elongation. Thus, our results identify Hes1 as a homeostatic suppressor of inflammatory responses that exerts its suppressive function by regulating transcription elongation.

RESUMEN

Anxiety is one of the most common withdrawal symptoms of methamphetamine (METH) abuse, which further drives relapse to drugs. Interpeduncular nucleus (IPN) has been implicated in anxiety-like behaviors and addiction, yet its role in METH-abstinence-induced anxiety remains unknown. Here, we found that prolonged abstinence from METH enhanced anxiety-like behaviors in male mice, accompanied by more excited IPN GABAergic neurons, as indicated by the increased c-fos expression and the enhanced neuronal excitability by electrophysiological recording in the GABAergic neurons. Using the designer receptors exclusively activated by designer drugs method, specific inhibition of IPN GABAergic neurons rescued the aberrant neuronal excitation of IPN GABAergic neurons and efficiently reduced anxiety-like behaviors, whereas it did not induce depression-like behaviors in male mice after prolonged abstinence from METH. These findings reveal that IPN GABAergic neurons should be a promising brain target to alleviate late withdrawal symptoms from METH with few side effects.SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT Prolonged abstinence from METH triggers IPN GABAergic neurons and ultimately increases anxiety in male mice. Suppressing IPN GABAergic neurons rescues METH abstinence-induced aberrant neuronal excitation of IPN GABAergic neurons and efficiently reduces anxiety in mice.

RESUMEN

Social dominance is a universal phenomenon among grouped animals that profoundly affects survival, health, and reproductive success by determining access to resources, and exerting a powerful influence on subsequent behavior. However, the understanding of pain and anxiety comorbidities in dominant or subordinate animals suffering from chronic pain is not well-defined. Here, we provide evidence that subordinate mice are more susceptible to pain-induced anxiety compared to dominant mice. We propose that the gut microbiota may play a mediating role in this mechanism. Our findings demonstrate that transplantation of fecal microbiota from subordinate mice with chronic inflammatory pain, but not dominant mice, into antibiotics-treated pseudo-germ-free mice significantly amplifies anxiety-like phenotypes, highlighting the critical involvement of gut microbiota in this behavioral response. Using chronic inflammatory pain model, we carried out 16S rRNA sequencing and untargeted metabolomic analyses to explore the relationship between microbiota and metabolites in a stable social hierarchy of mice. Interestingly, anxiety-like behaviors were directly associated with some microbial genera and metabolites, especially bile acid metabolism. Overall, we have demonstrated a close relationship between social status and anxiety susceptibility, highlighting the contributions of gut microbiota and the associated metabolites in the high-anxiety state of subordinate mice with chronic inflammatory pain.

RESUMEN

The photocatalytic U(VI) reduction is regarded as an effective strategy for recovering uranium. However, its application in seawater uranium extraction poses challenges due to limited reactivity in the presence of carbonate and under atmospheric conditions. In the present study, a photoactive hydrogel made of carboxyl-functionalized g-C3N4/CdS (CCN/CdS) is designed for extracting uranium. The carboxyl groups on g-C3N4 enhance the affinity toward uranyl ions while CdS facilitates the activation of dissolved oxygen. Under atmospheric conditions, the prepared hydrogel catalyst achieves over 80% reduction rate of 0.1 mM U(VI) within 150 min in the presence of carbonate, without the assistance of any electron donors. During the photocatalytic process, U(VI) is reduced to form UO2+x. The hydrogel catalyst exhibits a high uranium extraction capacity of >434.5 mg g⁻1 and the products can be effectively eluted using a 0.1 M NaCO3 solution. Furthermore, this hydrogel catalyst offers excellent stability, good recyclability, outstanding antifouling activity, and ease of separation, all of which are desirable for seawater uranium extraction. Finally, the test in real seawater demonstrates the successful extraction of uranium from seawater using the prepared hydrogel catalyst.

RESUMEN

CD38 is involved in immune responses, cell proliferation, and has been identified in the brain, where it is implicated in inflammation processes and psychiatric disorders. We hypothesized that dysfunctional CD38 activity in the brain may contribute to the pathogenesis of depression. To investigate the underlying mechanisms, we used a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced depression-like model and conducted behavioral tests, molecular and morphological methods, along with optogenetic techniques. We microinjected adeno-associated virus into the hippocampal CA3 region with stereotaxic instrumentation. Our results showed a marked increase in CD38 expression in both the hippocampus and cortex of LPS-treated mice. Additionally, pharmacological inhibition and genetic knockout of CD38 effectively alleviated neuroinflammation, microglia activation, synaptic defects, and Sirt1/STAT3 signaling, subsequently improving depression-like behaviors. Moreover, optogenetic activation of glutamatergic neurons of hippocampal CA3 reduced the susceptibility of mice to depression-like behaviors, accompanied by reduced CD38 expression. We also found that (R)-ketamine, which displayed antidepressant effects, was linked to its anti-inflammatory properties by suppressing increased CD38 expression and reversing synaptic defects. In conclusion, hippocampal CD38 is closely linked to depression-like behaviors in an inflammation model, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target for antidepressant development.

RESUMEN

Ketamine exhibits rapid and sustained antidepressant effects. As decreased myelination has been linked to depression pathology, changes in myelination may be a pivotal mechanism underlying ketamine's long-lasting antidepressant effects. Although ketamine has a long-lasting facilitating effect on myelination, the precise roles of myelination in ketamine's sustained antidepressant effects remain unknown. In this study, we employed spatial transcriptomics (ST) to examine ketamine's lasting effects in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and hippocampus of mice subjected to chronic social defeat stress and identified several differentially expressed myelin-related genes. Ketamine's ability to restore impaired myelination in the brain by promoting the differentiation of oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) into mature oligodendrocytes was demonstrated. Moreover, we showed that inhibiting the expression of myelin-associated oligodendrocytic basic protein (Mobp) blocked ketamine's long-lasting antidepressant effects. We also illustrated that α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor (AMPAR) signaling mediated ketamine's facilitation on myelination. In addition, we found that the (R)-stereoisomer of ketamine showed stronger effects on myelination than (S)-ketamine, which may explain its longer-lasting antidepressant effects. These findings reveal novel mechanisms underlying the sustained antidepressant effects of ketamine and the differences in antidepressant effects between (R)-ketamine and (S)-ketamine, providing new insights into the role of myelination in antidepressant mechanisms.

RESUMEN

Pain and anxiety comorbidities are a common health problem, but the neural mechanisms underlying comorbidity remain unclear. We propose that comorbidity implies that similar brain regions and neural circuits, with the lateral septum (LS) as a major candidate, process pain and anxiety. From results of behavioral and neurophysiological experiments combined with selective LS manipulation in mice, we find that LS GABAergic neurons were critical for both pain and anxiety. Selective activation of LS GABAergic neurons induced hyperalgesia and anxiety-like behaviors. In contrast, selective inhibition of LS GABAergic neurons reduced nocifensive withdrawal responses and anxiety-like behaviors. This was found in two mouse models, one for chronic inflammatory pain (induced by complete Freund's adjuvant) and one for anxiety (induced by chronic restraint stress). Additionally, using TetTag chemogenetics to functionally mark LS neurons, we found that activation of LS neurons by acute pain stimulation could induce anxiety-like behaviors and vice versa. Furthermore, we show that LS GABAergic projection to the lateral hypothalamus (LH) plays an important role in the regulation of pain and anxiety comorbidities. Our study revealed that LS GABAergic neurons, and especially the LSGABAergic-LH circuit, are a critical to the modulation of pain and anxiety comorbidities.

RESUMEN

The photophysical properties and luminescent mechanism of a series of tripod-type Cu(I) complexes in solution and solids were comprehensively investigated through theoretical simulations. From a microscopic perspective, the experimental phenomenon is explained: (1) The intrinsic reason for the quenching of complex 1 in solution was attributed to the significant nonradiative transition caused by structural deformation; (2) In the solid, the reduced ΔEST for complex 2 effectively facilitate reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) and improves its luminescence efficiency; (3) The enhanced performance of complex 3 in solution is attributed to that its stronger steric hindrance is advantageous to decrease not only the ΔEST but also the reorganization energy through intramolecular weak interactions. Based on complex 3, the tert-butyl substituted isomeric complex 4 was designed. Complex 4 further amplifies the advantages of 3 to further promote the RISC to make full use of excitons. Meanwhile, it has an emission wavelength of 462.6 nm, which makes it an excellent candidate for high-efficiency deep-blue TADF materials. This study provides valuable information for obtaining efficient blue phosphorescence and TADF dual-channel luminescent materials.

RESUMEN

Natural killer (NK) cells with tissue-residency features (trNK cells) are a new subpopulation of NK cells, which plays an important role in tissue homeostasis. However, the characteristics of trNK cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) of human cancers remain unclear. Using multicolor flow cytometry, we investigated the quantity, phenotype, and function of trNK cells in biospecimens freshly resected from 60 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. We successfully identified a new CD69+ CXCR6+ trNK subset with an immunomodulatory-like and exhausted phenotype, specifically accumulated in the TME of NSCLC. In vitro experiments showed that CD69+ CXCR6+ trNK cells more readily secreted IFN-γ and TNF-α spontaneously. Furthermore, the production of IFN-γ and TNF-α by tumor-infiltrating CD69+ CXCR6+ trNK cells was not induced by their reactivation in vitro, which is analogous to T-cell exhaustion. Finally, we demonstrated that the dysfunction of CD69+ CXCR6+ trNK cells could be partly ameliorated by PD-1 and CTLA-4 blockade. In summary, we identified a new dysfunctional CD69+ CXCR6+ trNK cell subset that specifically accumulates in the TME of NSCLC. Our findings suggest that CD69+ CXCR6+ trNK cells are a promising target for immune checkpoint inhibitors in the treatment of NSCLC.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Patients suffering from chronic pain often also exhibit depression symptoms. Soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) inhibitors can decrease blood levels of inflammatory cytokines. However, whether inhibiting sEH signaling is beneficial for the comorbidity of pain and depression is unknown. METHODS: According to a sucrose preference test (SPT), spared nerve injury (SNI) mice were classified into pain with or without an anhedonia phenotype. Then, sEH protein expression and inflammatory cytokines were assessed in selected tissues. Furthermore, we used sEH inhibitor TPPU to determine the role of sEH in chronic pain and depression. Importantly, agonists and antagonists of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) and translocator protein (TSPO) were used to explore the pathogenesis of sEH signaling. RESULTS: In anhedonia-susceptible mice, the tissue levels of sEH were significantly increased in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), hippocampus, spinal cord, liver, kidney, and gut. Importantly, serum CYP1A1 and inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin 1ß (IL-1ß) and the tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), were increased simultaneously. TPPU improved the scores of mechanical withdrawal threshold (MWT) and SPT, and decreased the levels of serum CYP1A1 and inflammatory cytokines. AHR antagonist relieved the anhedonia behaviors but not the algesia behaviors in anhedonia-susceptible mice, whereas an AHR agonist abolished the antidepressant-like effect of TPPU. In addition, a TSPO agonist exerted a similar therapeutic effect to that of TPPU, whereas pretreatment with a TSPO antagonist abolished the antidepressant-like and analgesic effects of TPPU. CONCLUSIONS: sEH underlies the mechanisms of the comorbidity of chronic pain and depression and that TPPU exerts a beneficial effect on anhedonia behaviors in a pain model via AHR and TSPO signaling.

RESUMEN

To enhance the stability of the polymeric micelles and optimize their drug-controlled release ability, three disulfide-linked polyethylene glycol methyl ether methacrylate-disulfide-poly(ε-caprolactone-co-γ-amine-ε-caprolactone) (PPEGMA-SS-P(CL-co-ACL)) polymers were synthesized and characterized by 1H NMR, GPC, and FT-IR successfully, and their dual pH/reduction-responsive cross-linked polymeric micelles were prepared for paclitaxel (PTX) delivery by using 2,3-dimethylmaleic anhydride (DMMA) as the cross-linking agent. The PTX loading capacity (LC) and encapsulation efficiency (EE) values of the cross-linked micelles formed by PPEGMA8-SS-P(CL47-co-ACL15) achieved were 23.96% and 71.58%, slightly higher than those of un-cross-linked micelles. Both particle sizes of blank micelles and in vitro drug release of PTX-loaded micelles confirmed that compared with those un-cross-linked micelles, the cross-linked micelles were more stable at pH 7.4 + 0 mM DTT, with a PTX cumulative release of 13% at 120 h, while the PTX cumulative release of the cross-linked micelles at pH 5.0 + 10 mM DTT were close to that of un-cross-linked micelles after 60 h, indicating the successful reversible cross-linking and smooth drug release of the cross-linked micelles. The cytotoxicity assay showed that PPEGMA8-SS-P(CL47-co-ACL15) and its cross-linked micelles had low cell cytotoxicity, and both PTX-loaded micelles revealed a certain inhibitory effect on HepG2 cells. These results revealed that the dual pH/reduction-responsive cross-linked polymeric micelles prepared from PPEGMA8-SS-P(CL47-co-DCL15) were a promising candidate for PTX delivery.

RESUMEN

To elucidate the luminescence mechanism of highly efficient blue Cu(N^N)(POP)+-type thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials, we have selected Cu(pytfmpz)(POP)+ (1) and Cu(pympz)(POP)+ (2) as targets to investigate the photophysical properties in both solution and solid phases. The self-consistent electrostatic potential (ESP) embedded charge within the quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) method demonstrates a greater advantage over the charge equilibrium (QEQ) in accurately calculating atomic charges and reasonably describing the polarization effect, ultimately resulting in a favorable consistency between simulation and experimental measurements. After systematic and quantitative simulation, it has been found that complex 2, with an electron-donating group of -CH3, exhibits a much more blue-shifted spectrum and a significantly enhanced efficiency in comparison to complex 1 with -CF3. This is due to the widened HOMO-LUMO gap as well as the narrowed energy gap between the lowest singlet and triplet excited states (ΔEST), respectively. Then, the designed complex 3 is introduced with a stronger electron donor and larger tert-butyl group, which plays a key role in simultaneously suppressing the structural distortion and reducing the ΔEST. This leads to a faster reverse intersystem crossing process than that of the two experimental complexes in solution, turning out to be a new deep-blue-emitting material with excellent TADF performance.

RESUMEN

Aiming at achieving the concurrent performances of high loading, well controlled release and active targeted delivery, folate (FA) modified dual pH/reduction-responsive mixed polymeric micelles were rationally assembled using FA-PEG-PDEAEMA and PEG-SS-PCL by dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulations. The optimized polymers PEG112-PDEAEMA40, FA-PEG112-PDEAEMA40, and PEG112-SS-PCL70 were synthesized and characterized using 1H NMR, FT-IR and GPC, and their mixed micelles were applied for doxorubicin (DOX) delivery. The drug loading capacity (LC) and encapsulation efficiency (EE) values of the MIX1 (FA-PEG112-PDEAEMA40/PEG112-SS-PCL70) at a DOX/polymer feeding ratio of 15 mg/30 mg were 20.22% and 50.69%, which were higher than those of single polymer micelles and MIX2 (PEG112-PDEAEMA40/PEG112-SS-PCL70). Particle size distributions, mesoscopic morphologies, DPD simulations and in vitro drug release profiles all confirmed the well-controlled release performance of the DOX-loaded micelles formed by MIX1: slow DOX release with a cumulative release of 20.46% in the neutral environment and accelerated release with a cumulative release of 74.20% at pH 5.0 + 10 mM DTT within 120 h, which were similar to those of MIX2. Cytotoxicity assay found that both MIX1 and MIX2 blank micelles were biocompatible, and a superior inhibitory effect of the FA-modified DOX-loaded micelles MIX1 on HepG2 cells was found compared to that of free DOX and non-FA-modified DOX-loaded micelles MIX2. All of these confirmed the superiority of MIX1 micelles with high loading capacity, well controlled release, and enhanced inhibitory effects on HepG2 cells, which might be a prospective candidate for anticancer drug delivery.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Perioperative neurocognitive disorder (PND) is a general term for cognitive impairment that negatively affects multiple domains, including memory, concentration, and physical functioning. Numerous articles have been published on PND; however, only a few quantitative analyses covering this disorder have been published. METHODS AND MATERIALS: To clarify PND's developmental history, research foci, and future directions, we conducted a bibliometric analysis using the bibliometric tools VOSviewer and CiteSpace. A total of 4704 publications were obtained from the Web of Science database, including annual publications and trends, keywords, institutions, journals, and collaboration between countries/regions and authors. RESULTS: In addition, we found that neuroinflammation is a hotspot in recent studies. CONCLUSIONS: This bibliometric analysis provides a broad overview of studies in the field of PND.

RESUMEN

Replacing widely used organic liquid electrolytes with solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) could effectively solve the safety issues in sodium-ion batteries. Efforts on seeking novel solid-state electrolytes have been continued for decades. However, issues about SSEs still exist, such as low ionic conductivity at ambient temperature, difficulty in manufacturing, low electrochemical stability, poor compatibility with electrodes, etc. Here, sodium carbazolide (Na-CZ) and its THF-coordinated derivatives are rationally fabricated as Na+ conductors, and two of their crystal structures are successfully solved. Among these materials, THF-coordinated complexes exhibit fast Na+ conductivities, i.e., 1.20×10-4  S cm-1 and 1.95×10-3  S cm-1 at 90 °C for Na-CZ-1THF and Na-CZ-2THF, respectively, which are among the top Na+ conductors under the same condition. Furthermore, stable Na plating/stripping is observed even over 400 h cycling, showing outstanding interfacial stability and compatibility against Na electrode. More advantages such as ease of synthesis, low-cost, and cold pressing for molding can be obtained. In situ NMR results revealed that the evaporation of THF may play an essential role in the Na+ migration, where the movement of THF creates defects/vacancies and facilitates the migration of Na+ .

RESUMEN

Hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) of nitrogen-containing organic compounds such as aniline and its derivatives is of scientific interest and practical importance. Major efforts have been devoted to the development and understanding of transition metal-mediated chemical processes. Herein, we report a fundamentally different strategy using a transition metal-free material, that is, lithium hydride (LiH) enabling the hydrogenolysis of aniline to benzene and ammonia via a chemical looping approach. Aniline reacts with LiH to form lithium anilide, and subsequently, the hydrogenolysis of lithium anilide yields benzene and ammonia and regenerates LiH to complete the loop. This LiH-mediated chemical looping HDN process stands in sharp contrast to the transition metal-catalyzed or -mediated processes, which commonly lead to the complete hydrogenation of aromatic rings. A highly denitrogenated product formation rate of 2623 µmol·g-1·h-1 is achieved for the hydrogenolysis of lithium anilide at 300 °C and 10 bar H2, which exceeds the catalytic rate of transition metal catalysts. Computational studies reveal that the scission of C-N bonds is facilitated by a Li-mediated nucleophilic attack of hydride to the α-sp2C atom of aniline. This work not only provides a distinctive chemical looping route for HDN, but also opens up materials space for the denitrogenation of anilines.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To tested the ability of N-myc and STAT interactor (NMI) levels in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) to predict the severity of the disease. METHODS: Prospective observational analysis of patients with CAP was performed. The NMI levels in serum of 394 CAP patients on admission were measured by immunoassay. Thirty-day mortality and intensive care unit (ICU) admission were set as clinical outcomes. The predicting value of NMI for clinical outcomes was determined by receiver operating characteristic curve and logistic regression analysis. The internal validity was assessed using cross-validation with bootstrap resampling. RESULTS: NMI was an independent risk factor for both 30-day mortality and admission to ICU for CAP patients. The area under curve (AUC) of NMI to predict mortality was 0.91 (95% CI: 0.86-0.96), and that to predict ICU admission was 0.92 (95% CI: 0.88-0.97), significantly higher than that of other biomarkers including procalcitonin and C-reactive protein. The proportion of clinical outcomes notably rose as NMI levels elevated (P < 0.001). The AUCs of the new score systems including NMI (N-PSI and N-CURB65 score) to predict outcomes were significantly higher than the original score systems. CONCLUSIONS: NMI is a novel biomarker for predicting CAP severity superior to former biomarkers in 30-day mortality and ICU admission.

RESUMEN

The high incidence and difficulties of treatment of cancer have always been a challenge for mankind. Two-photon photodynamic therapy (TP-PDT) as a less invasive technique provides a new perspective for tumor treatment due to its low-energy near-infrared excitation, high targeting, and minor damage. At present, the emerging metal complexes used as the photosensitizers (PSs) in TP-PDT have aroused great interest. However, most metal complexes as PSs in TP-PDT still face some problems, such as slow clearance, unsatisfactory two-photon absorption (TPA) characteristics, high price, low reactivity, and poor solubility. In this work, density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory were used to characterize the one/two-photon response, solvation free energy, and lipophilicity of a series of novel PSs applied in TP-PDT. The results suggest that based on complex 1, replacing Ru(II) center with Zn(II) (complex 2) can effectively prolong the triplet excited state lifetime while reducing the cost and environmental pollution, and the azetidine heterospirocycles were introduced into the ligand scaffold (complex 3), which effectively reduced the vibration relaxation of the ligand group and improved the water solubility; further, the addition of acetylenyl groups subtly enhanced the light absorption and significantly improved the two-photon response (complex 4). In addition, all complexes met the requirement of a PS and could be used as potential candidates for TP-PDT. In particular, complex 4 has the advantages of high solvation free energy, a large TPA cross-section (1413 GM), a long triplet state lifetime (671 µs), good chemical reactivity, and low cost, and it is easy to be scavenged by organisms. Overall, this contribution may provide an important clue to formulate clear design principles for type I/II PSs and rational design of PSs with high intersystem crossing rates, a long lifetime, and therapeutic excitation wavelengths.

RESUMEN

Methamphetamine (METH) elicits endogenous glutamate (Glu) in the brain, which could partially explain METH-induced memory deficits. Here, we investigated the therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on spatial memory deficits in METH withdrawal mice and its potential synaptic mechanisms. We found that EA at acupoints 'Baihui' and 'Yintang' ameliorated the impaired spatial memory in METH withdrawal mice. In parallel, EA attenuated the Glu levels in vivo and suppressed the neuronal activities within dCA1 of METH withdrawal mice, as indicated by the decreasing c-Fos levels and the amplitude of mEPSP. In the dCA1, EA decreased A1-like astrocytes but increased astrocytic glutamatergic transporting molecules including glutamate transporter 1 and glutamine synthase. However, EA seemed to have no effects on presynaptic Glu transmission from the dCA3, as evidenced by the similiar levels of c-Fos in the dCA3 neurons, synaptic vesicular markers of dCA3 neural terminals and values of paired-pulse ratio in the dCA1 neurons between EA-treated and sham EA-treated METH withdrawal mice. These findings suggest that EA might normalize the dCA1 Glu levels at least in part through enhancing astrocyte-mediated Glu clearance. Taken together, astrocytes might be a novel target for developing therapeutic interventions against the impaired memory behaviours in METH users, and EA represents a promising non-invasive therapeutic strategy for the management of drug-caused memory deficits.
