RESUMEN

(1) Background: Emotion recognition based on EEG signals is a rapidly growing and promising research field in affective computing. However, traditional methods have focused on single-channel features that reflect time-domain or frequency-domain information of the EEG, as well as bi-channel features that reveal channel-wise relationships across brain regions. Despite these efforts, the mechanism of mutual interactions between EEG rhythms under different emotional expressions remains largely unexplored. Currently, the primary form of information interaction between EEG rhythms is phase-amplitude coupling (PAC), which results in computational complexity and high computational cost. (2) Methods: To address this issue, we proposed a method of extracting inter-bands correlation (IBC) features via canonical correlation analysis (CCA) based on differential entropy (DE) features. This approach eliminates the need for surrogate testing and reduces computational complexity. (3) Results: Our experiments verified the effectiveness of IBC features through several tests, demonstrating that the more correlated features between EEG frequency bands contribute more to emotion classification accuracy. We then fused IBC features and traditional DE features at the decision level, which significantly improved the accuracy of emotion recognition on the SEED dataset and the local CUMULATE dataset compared to using a single feature alone. (4) Conclusions: These findings suggest that IBC features are a promising approach to promoting emotion recognition accuracy. By exploring the mutual interactions between EEG rhythms under different emotional expressions, our method can provide valuable insights into the underlying mechanisms of emotion processing and improve the performance of emotion recognition systems.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical effect of Devine's technique with free skin grafting in the treatment of concealed penis with prepuce deficit. METHODS: This study included 7 children with concealed penis, aged 6 - 15 (mean 8.6) years, 6 of them treated by circumcision previously. All the patients underwent Devine's operation to resect the inelasticity sarcolemma and lengthen the penis. The length of prepuce deficit ranged from 2 to 4 cm. Intermediate split thickness skin grafts of the corresponding length were taken from the femoribus internus to wrap up the tunica albuginea penis, followed by the procedures of saturation, encapsulation and fixation. RESULTS: Surgery time ranged from 70 to 120 minutes, averaging 90.5 minutes. The penis was prolonged about 2 - 4 cm after surgery. A 6-month follow-up revealed desirable penile appearance and normal penile erection. CONCLUSION: Devine's technique with free skin grafting from the femoribus internus is an ideal treatment for concealed penis with prepuce deficit.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical and pathological features, diagnosis and treatment of cystic lymphangioma of the spermatic cord. METHODS: One case of cystic lymphangioma of the spermatic cord in a 71-year-old patient was retrospectively analyzed and the relevant literature was reviewed. RESULTS: The patient, presented with spermatic cord hydrocele, was treated by local excision of the tumor, which was pathologically diagnosed as cystic lymphangioma. No relapse was found during a 3-month follow-up after the operation. CONCLUSION: Lymphangioma of the spermatic cord is a benign tumor. Preoperation ultrasonography and CT are important for determining the location and nature of lymphangioma. Surgical excision is an effective option for the treatment of cystic lymphangioma of the spermatic cord.

This study investigated the in vitro and in vivo antioxidant activities of the flavonoids rich extract from Rhodomyrtus tomentosa Hassk (R. tomentosa) berries. The in vitro antioxidant assay demonstrated that the flavonoids rich extract (62.09% rutin equivalent) extracted by ethanol and purified by AB-8 macroporous resin was strong in reducing power, superoxide radical, hydroxyl radical and DPPH radical scavenging activity, as well as inhibiting lipid peroxidation. In the in vivo assays, the flavonoids rich extract significantly enhanced the activities of antioxidant enzymes in serums of mice after they were administered with the extract. The results suggested that the flavonoids rich extract from R. tomentosa fruits possesses potent antioxidant properties. In addition, the chemical compositions of flavonoids rich extract were identified by UPLC-TOF-MS/MS. Six flavonoids were tentatively identified as myricetin, quercetin, dihydromyricetin, kaempferol, quercetin 7,4'-diglucoside and vitexin. Therefore, R. tomentosa berries could be used as a new source of antioxidant ingredient.

The optimal condition of spray drying purified flavonoids extract from R. tomentosa berries was studied by response surface methodology. The optimized condition for microencapsulation was of maltodextrin to gum Arabic ratio 1 : 1.3, total solid content 27.4%, glycerol monostearate content 0.25%, and core to coating material ratio 3 : 7, resulting in EE 91.75%. Prepared at the optimized condition, the flavonoids extract microcapsules (FEMs) were irregularly spherical particles with low moisture content (3.27%), high solubility (92.35%), and high bulk density (0.346 g/cm(3)). DPPH radical scavenging activity of FEMs was not decreased after spray drying (P > 0.05) and higher than those in citric acid and rutin at the same concentration. Moreover, FEMs effectively retarded the oxidation of fresh lard during the 10-day storage period compared with vitamin C, nonencapsulated flavonoids extract, and rutin. Therefore, FEMs produced at the optimized condition could be used as powder ingredients with antioxidant capacities.
