RESUMEN
Utilising automated content analysis with transformer-based topic modelling (BERTopic), this study examines cross-outlet variation in volume and topics over two decades (2000-2022) of abortion coverage in seven major daily newspapers in the Netherlands. Our findings reveal an ongoing coverage of abortion. Volume of coverage was notably highest in religious newspapers, indicating that these newspapers constitute a prominent voice in Dutch abortion debate. We discerned four distinct frames used in abortion news coverage. The first emphasised political developments as well as protest and advocacy related to abortion, framing the issue as a controversial political and moral topic. The second emphasised uncommon and problematic aspects of abortion, neglecting to present it as a commonplace and safe reproductive healthcare procedure. Two other frames seek to undermine women's decision-making agency: the marginalisation of women's personal perspectives; and the highlighting of prerequisites for abortion care. The media's emphasis on a hierarchy of deservedness may consequently reduce public support for particular reasons for choosing abortion. Overall, our findings show that abortion remains a regularly covered and contentious issue, even amidst progressive legislation. This study highlights the need for balanced reporting that engages with women's diverse personal experiences and perspectives.
RESUMEN
This study on news coverage of highly visible company types in a Dutch daily quality newspaper (NRC Handelsblad; N = 14,363), during the economic crisis (2007-2013), shows that attention to banks (and to a lesser extent also to the automobile and components industry) had a structural negative influence on media agenda diversity. The majority of the other salient company types had a significant positive impact on diversity. These results suggest that banks attracted attention at the expense of more varied, diverse coverage during the crisis. Our findings extend knowledge of agenda-building dynamics in relation to organizational news by considering characteristics of the broader media agenda. We discuss our findings in light of causes and consequences of media coverage of salient businesses.
RESUMEN
A 78-year-old woman with long-standing obstipation presented herself to the hospital with diarrhoea and progressive abdominal cramping since 2 days. Acute abdomen developed and an emergency exploratory laparotomy was indicated, which showed no signs of bowel ischaemia. After admission to the internal ward, stool Clostridium difficile PCR was tested positive. Hence the diagnosis of pseudomembranous colitis became apparent. Abdominal imaging demonstrated multiple gas foci in the wall of the bladder and extensive pseudomembranous colitis. The patient was initially treated with oral vancomycin and secondarily with metronidazole for recurrent C. difficile infection. Resolution of diarrhoea and abdominal cramping was noted on 6-week follow-up visit.

In this article we present three patients with atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis in a solitary kidney. They developed progressive renal failure, hypertension or fluid overload which were resistant to drug therapy. As there were no other therapeutic options they were treated with renal artery stenting, with good clinical results. Although large trials have not shown that endovascular stenting has any advantages over medical therapy in atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis, we propose that if other options fail there is a place for stenting in renal artery stenosis in patients with a single functioning kidney.

To evaluate medium-term technical and clinical success after endovascular treatment of stenosis or occlusion at the aortoiliac bifurcation with a distal aortic stent or kissing stents. Between 1995 and 2004, 25 patients were included in the study. Nine patients were treated with an aortic stent, and 16 patients were treated with kissing stents. Clinical and radiologic findings were retrospectively reviewed, and statistical analysis was performed. In all cases, the procedure was technically successful. Hemodynamic success was observed in 22 patients (88%), and clinical success was observed in 23 patients (92%). After a median follow-up of 21 months, 8 patients developed a restenosis (n = 6) or occlusion (n = 2). Two patients with restenosis were treated successfully with aortic bifurcation grafts, and 4 patients underwent endovascular reintervention. No risk factors for restenosis were identified. Primary patency was 87% after 1 year and 65% after 2 years. Secondary patency was 90% after 1 year and 72% after 2 years. At the last outpatient control, 22 patients (88%) were free of symptoms. Endovascular treatment of symptomatic aortoiliac atherosclerosis at the aortoiliac bifurcation by means of a distal aortic stent or kissing stents can be used successfully with durable improvement in the majority of patients. We recommend it as the initial treatment modality.
