RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To study the association of fatty acid composition in human milk with breast milk jaundice (BMJ) in neonates. METHODS: A total of 30 full-term neonates who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit from October 2016 to October 2017 and were diagnosed with late-onset BMJ were enrolled as the BMJ group. Thirty healthy neonates without jaundice or pathological jaundice who were admitted to the confinement center during the same period of time were enrolled as the control group. Related clinical data were collected, including sex, mode of birth, feeding pattern, gestational age, birth weight, gravida, parity, and peak level of total serum bilirubin. Breast milk was collected from the mothers, and the MIRIS human milk analyzer was used to measure macronutrients (fat, protein, and carbohydrate) and calorie. Gas chromatography was used to analyze the content of different fatty acids in breast milk. RESULTS: The control group had higher levels of macronutrients in human milk than the BMJ group, with significant differences in fat, dry matter, and calorie (P < 0.05). In addition, 25 fatty acids were detected in breast milk, including 9 saturated fatty acids, 6 monounsaturated fatty acids, and 10 polyunsaturated fatty acids. The comparison of the percentage composition of different fatty acids showed that compared with the control group, the BMJ group had significantly lower percentage compositions of C15:0, C16:0, C17:0, C18:0, C20:0, C18:1n9t, C20:1n9, C18:3n6, C22:2, and C22:6n3 (DHA) and higher percentage compositions of C10:0, C12:0, C14:0 in breast milk (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Some macronutrients and fatty acid composition in human milk may be associated with the pathogenesis of BMJ in neonates.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of Bushen Zhuyun Decoction (BZD) on the reproductive capacity of mice. METHODS: Totally 60 female Kunming mice were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group. BZD was perfused by gastric tube to mice in the experimental group, twice daily. Meanwhile, mice in the control group were administered with normal saline by gastrogavage. Mice were sacrificed on the 10th day and the 20th day of medication respectively, 15 mice each time in each group. The serum levels of estradiol and progesterone were detected by radioimmunoassay. The morphological changes of uterus and ovary were observed using HE staining. The expressions of leukaemia inhibitory factor (LIF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), and calcitionin (CT) were determined using immunohistochemical assay. RESULTS: Compared with the control group at the same time point, the weights of uterus and ovary increased, the serum levels of estradiol and progestogen increased, the expressions of LIF, CT, and EGF increased in the experimental group on the 10th day and the 20th day of medication (P <0.05, P <0.01). Better results were shown on the 20th day of medication (P <0.05). Histological results showed increased ovarian follicle numbers, increased endometrial gland numbers, endometrial hyperplasia (stratiform arranged), and increased stromal cells in the experimental group, especially on the 20th day of medication. CONCLUSION: BZD could improve the reproductive capacity by advancing the development of generative organs, promoting the secretion of estradiol and progestogen and the follicular growth, and increasing the receptivity of endometrium.

RESUMEN

Genetics and Eugenics is a cross-discipline between genetics and eugenics. It is a common curriculum in many Chinese universities. In order to increase the learning interest, we introduced case teaching method and got a better teaching effect. Based on our teaching practices, we summarized some experiences about this subject. In this article, the main problem of case-based method applied in Genetics and Eugenics teaching was discussed.

RESUMEN

The concept map is a kind of chart used to represent and reveal the relationship among the knowledge structures. In genetics teaching, selectively using the concept map can help teachers to organize and review the course contents and also to detect students' academic achievement. It can also promote students' cognitive level, assist students to establish a system integrated knowledge hierarchy, etc. The exploration and implication of concept map in genetics teaching are reviewed in this paper.

RESUMEN

More teaching techniques have been brought out gradually along with the development of new technologies. On the basis of those traditional teaching methods, a new platform has been set up by the network technology for teaching process. In genetics teaching, it is possible to use the network platform to guide student studying, promote student's learning interest and study independently by themselves. It has been proved, after exploring and applying for many years, that network teaching is one of the most useful methods and has inimitable advantage comparing to the traditional ones in genetics teaching. The establishment of network teaching platform, the advantage and deficiency and relevant strategies were intro-duced in this paper.

RESUMEN

Mitochondria are essential organelles that generate cellular energy in cells. Mutations of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) have been identified in various types of cancer, suggesting a complex relationship between mtDNA and cancer. This review focuses on the possible correlation between the mtDNA mutation and cancer. Additionally, possible causes for mtDNA mutations and applications for detecting mtDNA mutations in cancer are discussed.

RESUMEN

To a large degree, the growth and development of plants depend on the organ and/or cell type-specific expression of genes. However, it can be difficult to obtain sufficient number of specific cells from any developmental stage to analyze expression of genes. Laser capture microdissection (LCM) is a novel technique that allows us to collect pure targeted cell subgroup or even a single cell quickly and precisely, thus the problem of tissue heterogeneity in molecular analysis can be resolved successfully. In this paper, the principles of LCM were introduced and the application of LCM in plant was summarized in gene expression analysis, proteomics and plant-microbe interaction. Meanwhile, possible directions of LCM in plant were put forward.

RESUMEN

Activation tagging is a new method for isolation and functional identification. It can generate dominant gain-of-function mutants by overexpression of a particular endogenous gene. Due to this special characteristics of activation tagging, this method has been a powerful tool for new gene discovery and gene functional analysis. This paper reviewed the principle and study conditions of activation tagging,as well as its use in plant genetic engineering.
