BACKGROUND: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of vonoprazan-amoxicillin (VA), vonoprazan-amoxicillin-clarithromycin (VAC), vonoprazan-based bismuth-containing quadruple therapy (VBQT), and PPI-based triple (PAC) or quadruple therapy (PBQT) for H. pylori infection with the consideration of duration of therapy and amoxicillin dose (H: high; L: low). MATERIALS AND METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched for eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) up to December 15, 2023. The efficacy outcome was eradication rate, and safety outcomes included the rates of adverse events and treatment discontinuation. RESULTS: Twenty-seven RCTs were included. The pooled eradication rates were 82.8% for VA, 89.1% for VAC, and 91.8% for VBQT, which increased with the higher amoxicillin frequency of administration and extended duration of therapy within each regimen. There were no significant differences in eradication rate when comparing 7-VA versus 7-VAC and 14-VA versus 14-VAC. VA was at least comparable to PAC. The eradication rate did not differ significantly between 10-H-VA or 14-H-VA versus 14-PBQT. 7-L-VAC demonstrated higher eradication rate versus 7-PAC and comparable rate to 14-PAC. 14-VBQT showed higher eradication rates versus 14-PBQT. The adverse events rate was 19.3% for VA, 30.6% for VAC, and 38.4% for VBQT. VA had similar risk of adverse events versus VAC and significantly fewer adverse events compared to PBQT. The treatment discontinuation rate did not differ significantly between treatments. CONCLUSIONS: The eradication rate of VBQT was the highest at above 90% followed by VAC and VA. VA was as effective as VAC and superior to PPI-based therapies with favorable safety, highlighting the potential of VA therapy as a promising alternative to traditional PPI-based therapies. VPZ-based triple or quadruple therapies was more effective than PPI-based therapies. Further studies are needed to establish the optimal treatment regimen especially in the western countries.

PURPOSE: Ventral hernia (VH) is a common surgical disease. Previous studies suggested that obesity is an important risk factor for VH. However, the causal relationship between fat distribution and the risk of VH is still unclear. This study used Mendelian randomization (MR) to evaluate their causal relationship. METHODS: We used the body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, and body fat mass to represent general obesity and utilized the volume of abdominal subcutaneous adiposity tissue, visceral adiposity tissue, waist circumference, hip circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio to represent abdominal adiposity. The data were extracted from the large-scale genome-wide association study of European ancestry. We used two-sample MR to infer causality, using multivariate MR to correct the effects of confounding factors. RESULTS: Increased BMI, body fat percentage, body fat mass, visceral adiposity tissue, waist circumference, and hip circumference rather than subcutaneous adiposity tissue or waist-to-hip ratio, were causally associated with a higher risk of VH. The results of multivariate MR suggested that body fat percentage was causally associated with a higher risk of VH after adjusting for body mass index, diabetes, and smoking. CONCLUSION: General obesity, increased visceral adiposity tissue, waist circumference, and hip circumference rather than subcutaneous adiposity tissue or the waist-to-hip ratio were causally associated with a higher risk of VH. These findings provided a deeper understanding of the role that the distribution of adiposity plays in the mechanism of VH.

BACKGROUND: Invasive candidiasis is the most common hospital-acquired fungal infection in intensive care units (ICU). The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) score was developed to evaluate the nutritional status of elderly adults. We aimed to assess the association between the GNRI score and the risk of invasive candidiasis in elderly patients admitted to ICU. METHODS: Hospitalization information of elderly patients with invasive candidiasis was collected retrospectively from Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC) IV and MIMIC-III Clinical Database CareVue subset from 2001 to 2019. The main outcome of this study was the diagnosis of invasive candidiasis in patients. We employed a multivariable Cox regression and propensity score matching to balance the influence of confounding factors on the outcome. Furthermore, we conducted sensitivity analyses by categorizing the GNRI into classes based on thresholds of 98, 92, and 81. RESULTS: A total of 6739 patients were included in the study, among whom 134 individuals (2%) were diagnosed with invasive candidiasis. The GNRI scores of patients with invasive candidiasis upon admission to the ICU were significantly lower, measuring 88.67 [79.26-98.27], compared to the control group with a score of 99.36 [87.98-110.45] (P < 0.001). The results of the multivariable Cox regression analysis demonstrated a strong association between higher GNRI scores and a decreased risk of invasive candidiasis infection (HR: 0.98, 95% CI: 0.97-0.99, P = 0.002). Consistently, similar results were obtained when analyzing the propensity score-matched cohort (HR: 0.99, 95% CI: 0.98-1, P = 0.028). Sensitivity analyses further confirmed a significantly increased risk of invasive candidiasis infection with lower GNRI scores. Specifically, the following associations were observed: GNRI ≤ 98 (HR: 1.83, 95% CI: 1.23-2.72, P = 0.003), GNRI ≤ 92 (HR: 1.68, 95% CI: 1.17-2.4, P = 0.005), 82 ≤ GNRI ≤ 92 (HR: 1.63, 95% CI: 1.01-2.64, P = 0.046), GNRI ≤ 81 (HR: 2.31, 95% CI: 1.44-3.69, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Lower GNRI score was significantly associated with an increased risk of invasive candidiasis in elderly patients in ICU. Further research is needed to validate whether improving nutrition can prevent invasive candidiasis.

OBJECTIVES: To describe the pharmacology, efficacy, safety, and potential role of vonoprazan with amoxicillin or amoxicillin and clarithromycin for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection in adults. DATA SOURCES: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched using the terms: (vonoprazan OR voquezna) AND ("H. pylori" OR "Helicobacter pylori") AND amoxicillin with no date limitations up to November 3, 2022. STUDY SELECTION AND DATA EXTRACTION: Studies assessing the efficacy and safety of vonoprazan with amoxicillin and/or clarithromycin were included and divided into 3 groups based on different comparisons between treatment regimens used in each group. DATA SYNTHESIS: Ten clinical trials and 17 observational studies were included. Vonoprazan-based therapy demonstrated greater acid inhibition and similar or higher efficacy than proton-pump inhibitor (PPI)-based therapy in treatment-naïve patients and with clarithromycin-resistant infections. RELEVANCE TO PATIENT CARE AND CLINICAL PRACTICE: Proton-pump inhibitor-based therapies have not reached the desired successful eradication rate of 90% for H. pylori infection. Vonoprazan-based therapies being at least as effective as PPI-based therapies offer an alternative for patients with H. pylori infection. CONCLUSION: Vonoprazan-based therapies were effective and well tolerated for the treatment of H. pylori infection in adults. These regimens provide an important alternative with prolonged acid inhibition, lower potential for CYP2C19 polymorphism, and at least comparable efficacy and safety versus PPI-based therapies in patients with H. pylori infections. Thus, vonoprazan-based therapy should be considered for certain patients, for example, those with failure to PPI-based treatments.

Aiming at the human-computer interaction problem during the movement of the rehabilitation exoskeleton robot, this paper proposes an adaptive human-computer interaction control method based on real-time monitoring of human muscle state. Considering the efficiency of patient health monitoring and rehabilitation training, a new fatigue assessment algorithm was proposed. The method fully combined the human neuromuscular model, and used the relationship between the model parameter changes and the muscle state to achieve the classification of muscle fatigue state on the premise of ensuring the accuracy of the fatigue trend. In order to ensure the safety of human-computer interaction, a variable impedance control algorithm with this algorithm as the supervision link was proposed. On the basis of not adding redundant sensors, the evaluation algorithm was used as the perceptual decision-making link of the control system to monitor the muscle state in real time and carry out the robot control of fault-tolerant mechanism decision-making, so as to achieve the purpose of improving wearing comfort and improving the efficiency of rehabilitation training. Experiments show that the proposed human-computer interaction control method is effective and universal, and has broad application prospects.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effectiveness of modified stent-grafts (SGs) for the management of ascending aortic pathologies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From January 2015 to December 2019, 31 individuals were treated by ascending aortic endovascular repair with a back-table modified SG for acute (n=4) or chronic (n=1) type A aortic dissections, penetrating aortic ulcers (n=18), pseudoaneurysms (n=2), anastomotic fistula (n=1), and endoleaks after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) (n=5). The commercially available thoracic aortic SGs were modified with a fenestration or truncation technique on the back-table according to aortography during the operation. RESULTS: The 30-day mortality and aorta-related mortality rates were 12.9% and 6.5%, respectively. There were 2 strokes, 3 respiratory insufficiencies, and 6 endoleaks during hospitalization. During a mean follow-up of 28.8±16.6 months, the overall survival rates at 1 year and 3 years were both 80.6%. Free from adverse event rates at 1 year and 3 years were 88.9% and 84.7%, respectively. There were 2 deaths during follow-up: One patient died of cachexia 1 month after discharge, and the other patient died of acute myocardial infarction 3 months after discharge. One patient with a pseudoaneurysm underwent open ascending aorta replacement 3 months after discharge for a type Ia endoleak. Another patient suffered from cerebellar infarction 17 months after discharge. CONCLUSION: The modified SG for endovascular repair of the ascending aorta is a practicable alternative and presents acceptable outcomes in high-risk patients.

BACKGROUND: The bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is prone to ascending aortic dilatation (AAD) involving both the tubular segment and the aortic root. The genetic factor was proposed as one of the most important mechanisms for AAD. We hypothesized that the rare genetic variants mainly contribute to the pathogenesis of aortic roots in affected individuals. METHODS: The diameter of aortic root or ascending aorta ≥ 40 mm was counted as AAD. The targeted next-generation sequencing of 13 BAV-associated genes were performed on a continuous cohort of 96 unrelated BAV patients. The rare variants with allele frequency < 0.05% were selected and analyzed. Variants frequency was compared against the Exome aggregation consortium database. The pathogenicity of the genetic variants was evaluated according to the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics guidelines. RESULTS: A total of 27 rare nonsynonymous coding variants involving 9 genes were identified in 25 individuals. The burden analysis revealed that variants in GATA5, GATA6, and NOTCH1 were significantly associated with BAV. Eighty percent of the pathogenic variants were detected in root group. The detection rate of rare variants was higher in root dilatation group (71.4%) compared with normal aorta (29.0%) and tubular dilatation groups (29.6%) (P = 0.018). The rare variant was identified as the independent risk factor of root dilatation [P = 0.014, hazard ratio = 23.9, 95% confidence interval (1.9-302.9)]. CONCLUSIONS: Our results presented a broad genetic spectrum in BAV patients. The rare variants of BAV genes contribute the most to the root phenotype among BAV patients.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Chronic wound repair is a major problem in wound treatment. Recently, several studies have suggested that carbon dioxide (CO2 ) laser can be used to improve the healing of chronic wounds. The aim of the present study was to preliminarily investigate the efficacy of laser debridement in treating chronic wound through a comparison of traditional instrument/surgical debridement with the ultrapulsed CO2 laser debridement in terms of wound healing, wound infection control, and wound blood perfusion. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with chronic wound admitted to the Wound Repair Clinic at The Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University (Luzhou, China) between February 2019 and May 2019 were enrolled. They were randomly divided into two groups. The patients in one group were treated with traditional sharp instrument/surgical debridement (RT group; number of wounds: 28), while the patients in the other group were treated with ultrapulsed CO2 laser debridement (LT group; number of wounds: 26). An intergroup comparison was performed based on parameters, such as wound healing, wound infection control, and changes in wound blood perfusion. RESULTS: The wound healing rate and the total time to achieve healing were significantly better in the LT group versus the RT group at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after treatment. The wound exudation scores were significantly higher in the LT group versus the RT group at 7, 14, and 28 days after treatment. The positive rate of pre-debridement bacterial culture was significantly lower in the LT group versus the RD group at 14 and 28 days after treatment. The percentage of wound perfusion/normal periwound skin perfusion was significantly higher in the LT group versus the RT group at 1, 7, and 14 days after treatment. CONCLUSION: For the treatment of chronic refractory wounds, the ultrapulsed CO2 laser exhibits higher accuracy, more effectively controls wound infection, promotes an increase in wound blood perfusion, and achieves faster wound healing compared with traditional sharp instrument/surgical debridement. Histone modifications play a critical role in the pathological processes of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). While the role and expression pattern of histone methyltransferases (HMTs), especially mixed lineage leukemia (MLL) families on DCM are unclear. To this end, twelve normal and fifteen DCM heart samples were included in the present study. A murine cardiac remodelling model was induced by transverse aortic constriction (TAC). Real-time PCR was performed to detect the expression levels of MLL families in the mouse and human left ventricles. The mRNA level of MLL3 was significantly increased in the mouse hearts treated by TAC surgery. Compared with normal hearts, higher mRNA and protein level of MLL3 was detected in the DCM hearts, and its expression level was closely associated with left ventricular end systolic diameter (LVEDD) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). However, the expression level of other MLL families (MLL, MLL2, MLL4, MLL5, SETD1A, and SETD1B) had no obvious change between control and DCM hearts or remodeled mouse hearts. Furthermore, the di-methylated histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4me2) but not H3K4me3 was significantly increased in the DCM hearts. The protein levels of Smad3, GATA4, EGR1, which might regulate by MLL3, were remarkably elevated in the DCM hearts. Our hitherto unrecognized findings indicate that MLL3 has a potential role on pathological processes of DCM via regulating H3K4me2 and the expression of Smad3, GATA4, and EGR1.

BACKGROUND: The optimal hypothermic level during circulatory arrest is controversial. The aim of our study was to comprehensively assess the impact of moderate hypothermic circulatory arrest with antegrade cerebral perfusion (ACP) on total aortic arch replacement. METHODS: From 2010 to 2013, data were collected from 99 consecutive patients with acute type A aortic dissection. All patients underwent total arch replacement plus frozen elephant trunk procedure. There were 51 patients in the deep hypothermia circulatory arrest (DHCA) group and 47 in the moderate hypothermia circulatory arrest (MHCA) group. Either unilateral or bilateral ACP was applied for cerebral protection. Perioperative data and measured outcomes were compared. RESULTS: Overall mean circulatory arrest time was 29.9 ± 6.0 minutes. Temporary neurologic dysfunction incidence was lower in the MHCA group compared with the DHCA group (21.3 vs. 40.4%, p = 0.041). The total 30-day mortality was 17.2% (14.9 vs. 19.2%, p = 0.568) and permanent neurologic dysfunction morbidity was 3.0% overall. In MHCA, less blood products were used than in DHCA. Moderate hypothermia was a protective factor for the composite outcome of temporary and permanent neurologic dysfunctions (odds ratio = 0.385; 95% confidence interval = 0.162-0.919). Hypothermic level did not significantly affect the perioperative alanine aminotransferase and serum creatinine levels. CONCLUSION: Within a short circulatory arrest time, MHCA combined with ACP seemed to be a safe and effective method to protect cerebral and visceral organs during total aortic arch replacement.

A series of phenoxybutanoic acid derivatives were synthesized and tested for their antagonistic activity on the contraction of the rat thoracic aortic ring induced by endothelin-1. Preliminary screening results showed that 6e and 6g with benzoheterocycles demonstrated significant antagonistic activities when compared to the reference compound BQ123. The results from additional assays for the binding affinity and selectivity for endothelin receptors showed that 6e was a selective ETA antagonist with a nanomolar IC50. Moreover, 6e was effective in relieving hypoxia-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension and right ventricular weight ratio. Therefore, 6e may have potential for further development as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Synovial sarcoma of the heart is a rare tumor. Herein we would like to report a case of giant intrapericardial cardiac synovial sarcoma that originated from the right ventricle and grew outward near the diaphragm. After making adequate preoperative preparation, we performed the surgery as quickly as possible and resected the tumor completely. Based on the identification of the translocation on chromosome 18 rearrangement, the tumor can be diagnosed as a primary cardiac synovial sarcoma. Through this study, we aim to afford more information about cardiac synovial sarcomas as well as a reference for similar cases.

RESUMEN

Identifying points of interest (POIs) on the surface of 3D shapes is a significant challenge in geometric processing research. The complex connection between POIs and their geometric descriptors, combined with the small percentage of POIs on the shape, makes detecting POIs on any given 3D shape a highly challenging task. Existing methods directly detect POIs from the entire 3D shape, resulting in low efficiency and accuracy. Therefore, we propose a novel multi-modal POI detection method using a coarse-to-fine approach, with the key idea of reducing data complexity and enabling more efficient and accurate subsequent POI detection by first identifying and processing important regions on the 3D shape. It first obtains important areas on the 3D shape through 2D projected images, then processes points within these regions using attention mechanisms. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms existing POI detection techniques.

3D shape segmentation is a fundamental and crucial task in the field of image processing and 3D shape analysis. To segment 3D shapes using data-driven methods, a fully labeled dataset is usually required. However, obtaining such a dataset can be a daunting task, as manual face-level labeling is both time-consuming and labor-intensive. In this paper, we present a semi-supervised framework for 3D shape segmentation that uses a small, fully labeled set of 3D shapes, as well as a weakly labeled set of 3D shapes with sparse scribble labels. Our framework first employs an auxiliary network to generate initial fully labeled segmentation labels for the sparsely labeled dataset, which helps in training the primary network. During training, the self-refine module uses increasingly accurate predictions of the primary network to improve the labels generated by the auxiliary network. Our proposed method achieves better segmentation performance than previous semi-supervised methods, as demonstrated by extensive benchmark tests, while also performing comparably to supervised methods.

Introduction: The need for effective balance control in lower limb rehabilitation exoskeletons is critical for ensuring stability and safety during rehabilitation training. Current research into specialized balance recovery strategies is limited, highlighting a gap in biomechanics-inspired control methods. Methods: We introduce a new metric called "Orbit Energy" (OE), which assesses the balance state of the human-exoskeleton system based on the dynamics of the overall center of mass. Our control framework utilizes OE to choose appropriate balance recovery strategies, including torque controls at the ankle and hip joints. Results: The efficacy of our control algorithm was confirmed through Matlab Simulink simulations, which analyzed the recovery of balance under various disturbance forces and conditions. Further validation came from physical experiments with human subjects wearing the exoskeleton, where a significant reduction in muscle activation was observed during balance maintenance under external disturbances. Discussion: Our findings underscore the potential of biomechanics-inspired metrics like OE in enhancing exoskeleton functionality for rehabilitation purposes. The introduction of such metrics could lead to more targeted and effective balance recovery strategies, ultimately improving the safety and stability of exoskeleton use in rehabilitation settings.

Dietary supplement use is common among US adults. We aimed to investigate the quantity, duration, adherence, and reasons for supplement use in individuals who take supplements. Data from 2011 to 2018 from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) dataset were analyzed. Four cycles of data were combined to estimate these outcomes. Results are presented as overall group and by subgroups. All analyses were weighted to be nationally representative. The Taylor Series Linearization approach was used to generate variance estimates. A total of 12,529 participants were included. Over 70% of these individuals reported taking more than one unit of dietary supplements daily. Notably, approximately 40% had been taking supplements for more than five years and about 67% were highly adherent to at least one supplement. However, only 26.9% of these supplements were taken following a doctor's recommendation. The primary reasons for dietary supplements intake included improving overall health (37.2%), maintaining health (34.7%), bone health (21.4%), and diet supplementation (20.3%). Our findings indicate that most participants proactively used multiple dietary supplements focused on self-managed health and prevention, with substantial dedication to long-term use and high adherence. Healthcare professionals should play a more active role in guiding such behaviors to optimize the health outcomes of dietary supplement users across the United States.

Helicobacter pylori is among the prevalent causes of infections worldwide, and its resistance rate to antibiotics has been rising over time. Amoxicillin is the cornerstone for the treatment regimen. However, the prevalence of penicillin allergy ranges from 4% to 15%. In patients with true allergy, Vonoprazan-Clarithromycin-Metronidazole and bismuth quadruple therapy have demonstrated excellent eradication and high adherence rates. Vonoprazan-based therapy is administered less frequently and may be better tolerated than bismuth quadruple therapy. Therefore, vonoprazan-based therapy may be considered as a first-line therapy if accessible. Bismuth quadruple therapy can be used as the initial therapy when vonoprazan is unavailable. Levofloxacin or sitafloxacin-based regimens achieve a moderately high eradication rate. However, these are associated with potentially serious adverse effects and should only be used when other effective and safer regimens are unavailable. Cephalosporins such as cefuroxime have been used as an alternative to amoxicillin. Microbial susceptibility studies can guide the selection of appropriate antibiotics. PPI-Clarithromycin-Metronidazole fails to achieve a high eradication rate and should be used as a second-line therapy. PPI-Clarithromycin-Rifabutin should not be used because of low eradication rate and frequent adverse reactions. The choice of the most effective antibiotic regimen can enhance clinical outcomes in patients with H. pylori infection and penicillin allergy.

The eradication of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection remains challenging due to increasing bacterial resistance. Resistance rates to clarithromycin, metronidazole, and levofloxacin were higher than 30% in the USA, making current therapies less effective. Vonoprazan triple therapy (VAC) has demonstrated similar efficacy and safety profiles compared to PPI-based triple therapy (PPI). However, the eradication rate of vonoprazan dual therapy (VA) for H. pylori infection in comparison to VAC, and PPI was poorly established. Electronic databases were searched up to 6 October 2022, to identify studies examining the safety and efficacy of VA compared to VAC and PPI. Six studies were included. For empiric therapies among treatment naïve patients, VA, VAC, and PPI did not achieve high cure rates (>90%). The comparative efficacy ranking showed VAC was the most effective therapy, followed by VA, and PPI. The results were similar for clarithromycin-resistant infections. The comparative safety ranking showed VA ranked first, whereas PPI triple therapy was the least safe regimen. These findings should guide the selection of the most effective and safe treatment and conduct additional studies to determine the place of vonoprazan dual versus triple therapies in patients with H. pylori from various countries across the world.

Background: Medication adherence in Medicare-enrolled older adults with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) before and during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is unknown. Objectives: To evaluate medication adherence and determinants of high adherence before and during the COVID-19 pandemic in this population. Design: Retrospective cohort study. Methods: The proportion of days covered (PDC) reflected medication adherence from January to July 2019 and from January to July 2020. Patients <65 years of age, with COPD or asthma alone, or with cystic fibrosis were excluded. Paired t tests were used to assess adherence changes. Logistic regression explored association of age, sex, diagnosis of depression, number of medications, medication-related problems, prescribers, pharmacies, controller medication classes, albuterol rescue inhaler fills, oral corticosteroid fills, and having a 90-day supply with high adherence (PDC ⩾ 80%). Results: This analysis included 989 patients. In this cohort, 61.2% of patients received oral corticosteroids. Over 60% of patients had ⩾3 rescue fills in both 2019 and 2020. Medication adherence to controller medications significantly decreased for all controller medications (p < 0.001) in 2020. In 2019 and 2020, number of controller medication classes and having a 90-day supply were associated with high adherence (p < 0.001). In 2019, variables associated with high adherence also included number of medication-related problems and having ⩾3 albuterol rescue inhalers (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Medication adherence to controllers significantly decreased during the pandemic among older adults with asthma and COPD. Patients with multiple controller classes and a 90-day supply were more likely to be highly adherent. A 90-day supply of medications should be used to facilitate access to medication during the pandemic. Healthcare professionals should assess medication adherence, resolve the barriers of adherence and medication-related problems to achieve desired clinical outcomes among older adults with both asthma and COPD.

Background: The risk perception of contracting COVID-19 is an important topic for assessing and predicting COVID-19 infection and health education during the pandemic. However, studies that use latent profiles and network analysis together to measure the risk perception of COVID-19 are rare. Therefore, this study combined latent profile analysis and network analysis to measure risk perception toward COVID-19 among Chinese university students through a cross-sectional and longitudinal study. Methods: A sample of 1,837 Chinese university students (735 males, 40%) completed the cross-sectional study with an eight-item risk perception questionnaire in January 2020, while 334 Chinese university students (111 males, 33.2%) completed the longitudinal study at three time points. Results: A two-class model including a low risk perception class (n = 1,005, 54.7%) and a high risk perception class (n = 832, 45.3%) was selected for the cross-sectional study. Nodes rp6 ("Average people have chances of contracting COVID-19'') and rp7 ("Average people worry about catching COVID-19") had the strongest edge intensity (r = 0.491), while node rp5 ("The COVID-19 outbreak affects the whole country") had the highest strength centrality in the cross-sectional study. The risk perception of contracting COVID-19 decreased continuously at the three time points. Moreover, the network structures and global strengths had no significant differences in the longitudinal study. Conclusions: The risk perception of contracting COVID-19 decreased continually during the COVID-19 pandemic, which indicated the importance of cultural influence and effective government management in China. In addition, university students displayed strong trust and confidence in the government's ability to fight COVID-19. The results indicate that the government should take strong measures to prevent and intervene in various risks and reinforce the public's trust through positive media communications.
