RESUMEN

The present paper provides the description of a new species of the genus Karschiola Gaede, 1926 from central Mozambique and Zimbabwe: K. ndzou sp. n. The pairwise genetic distance between the two Karschiola species is calculated and a neighbour-joining tree based on DNA barcodes of two K. holoclera and five K. ndzou sp. n. specimens is provided. The paper is illustrated with eight colour photos of adults and 18 genitalia images, a distribution map and two habitat photos.

RESUMEN

A revision of the subgenus Hebena Walker, 1856 of the syntomine genus Metarctia Walker, 1855 is given based on integrative taxonomic analyses. Six new species (Metarctia (Hebena) manfredi sp. n., M. (H.) elleni sp. n., M. (H.) brigitta sp. n., M. (H). lukaszi sp. n., M. (H.) smithi sp. n., and M. (H.) haraldsulaki sp.n.) and one new subspecies (M. (H.) smithi transvallesiana ssp. n.) are described. Metarctia (H.) kelleni (Snellen, 1886) stat. rev. is reinstated from synonymy with M. (H.) rubra (Walker, 1856) and Metarctia (H.) subincarnata Kiriakoff, 1954 syn. n. is synonymised with M. (H.) henrardi Kiriakoff, 1953 and Metarctia cinnamomea (Wallengren, 1860) syn. n. with M. (H.) rubra (Walker, 1856). DNA barcodes were obtained for 116 specimens representing 7 taxa, and genetic analyses were performed using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian Inference approaches; a DNA barcode tree resulting from the latter is illustrated. Pairwise distances of barcodes between taxa are provided where available. The adults and genitalia of all taxa, their habitats and distribution are illustrated in 19 colour plates and 5 distribution maps.

RESUMEN

A taxonomic review of the Afrotropical Thyatirinae is given and a new genus reminiscent of the Oriental Horipsestis Matsumura, 1933 is established for a new East African species: Watsonopsestis smithi gen. n., sp. n. Based on the analysis of the genital morphology, Aethiopsestis austrina nebulosa Watson, 1965, is raised to species rank: A. nebulosa Watson, 1965 stat. n., and the tribe Aethiopsestini is downgraded to subtribe rank: Aethiopsestina Watson, 1965 stat. n. The female adult and genitalia of Aethiopsestis mufindiae Watson, 1965 are illustrated and the latter is described for the first time. New locality records of Marplena designina Lane, 1973, Aethiopsestis nebulosa and A. mufindiae are reported. A distribution map of all known Afrotropical Thyatirinae is provided. The holotypes and additional specimens of all species together with their genitalia are illustrated in 18 colour and 16 black and white figures.

RESUMEN

The taxonomic position of the West African Negeta semialba Hampson, 1918 is revised and the species is transferred from the genus Negeta Walker, 1862 of Westermanniinae to Leucobaeta Lszl, Ronkay Witt, 2010 of Nolinae: Leucobaeta semialba (Hampson, 1918) comb. n., based on morphological analysis. The hitherto unknown male adult and genitalia of both sexes are described and illustrated. Leucobaeta semialba is compared to the superficially similar Afrotropical Negeta mesoleuca (Holland, 1894) and N. ruficeps (Hampson, 1902); two sibling species from East Africa and Madagascar are described as new to science: L. smithi and L. malagassa spp. n. Pairwise genetic distances of COI-5P sequences between the taxa are provided.

RESUMEN

An overview of the Afrotropical species of Hampsonola Lszl, Ronkay Ronkay is given and five new combinations are introduced: Hampsonola inexplicabilis (Hacker, 2012) comb. n., Hampsonola argyropasta (Hampson, 1914) comb. n., Hampsonola nanographa (Hacker, 2012) comb. n. are transferred from Meganola Dyar, and Hampsonola aulombardiella (Hacker, 2012) comb. n. and Hampsonola transecta (Hampson, 1901) comb. n. are transferred from Nola Leach to Hampsonola. Based on integrative taxonomic analyses, five new monotypic genera and their type species are described: Gabonola gen. n. smithi sp. n., Bellanola gen. n. mikongo sp. n., Brunneonola gen. n. nimba sp. n., Ivindonola gen. n. ipassa sp. n. and Cryptonola gen. n. confundata sp. n. Additionally, Negeta franeyae Viette, 1987 is transferred to the genus Leucobaeta Lszl, Ronkay Witt, 2010: Leucobaeta franeyae (Viette, 1987) comb. n. representing a senior synonym of Leucobaeta malagassa Lszl, 2022 syn. n. The paper is illustrated with 21 colour and 16 black and white diagnostic images.

RESUMEN

The paper contains the description of two new species of the genus Morabia Hausmann Tujuba, 2020: M. cryptica sp. n. and M. smithi sp. n. The descriptions are based on both morphological data and DNA barcoding. Based on integrative taxonomic analyses, five new combinations are proposed: Morabia nigripunctata (Warren, 1897), comb. n. described from Nigeria, Morabia hero (Viette, 1971), comb. n., Morabia pluto (Viette, 1971), comb. n. described from Madagascar, Morabia herbuloti (Orhant, 2003), comb. n. described from Runion and Morabia distinctaria (Joannis, 1915), comb. n. described from Mauritius are transferred from the genus Ectropis Hbner, 1825 to Morabia. The female genitalia of M. nigripunctata, M. brunnea Hausmann Tujuba, 2020, M. hero and M. herbuloti are described and illustrated for the first time. Detailed diagnoses and re-descriptions of all taxa newly transferred to Morabia are given, interspecific pairwise distances of DNA barcodes are calculated and a maximum likelihood tree is compiled. The paper is illustrated with 38 colour and 38 black and white diagnostic images and a distribution map.

RESUMEN

The paper contains the description of two new Meganola Dyar, 1898 species (M. canaliculata Cha Bae, sp. n. and M. phuana Cha Bae, sp. n.) and a new record of M. tetrodon (de Joannis, 1928) from Laos. Color figures of adults and genitalia of the examined species are provided.
