RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the trends and correlates in multiple hospitalizations among older adults in China. METHODS: The data were from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), and generalized ordered logit model (GOLM) was used to identify the correlates of multiple hospitalizations among older adults aged≥60 years old. RESULTS: Between 2011 and 2018, the proportion of older adults having multiple hospitalizations in the past year showed an increasing trend in the total sample (p value for trend = 0.014). Being older, male, illiterate, living in the middle/western region, having higher annual per capita household expenditure, health insurance, multimorbidity, and being depressed were associated with increased odds of multiple hospitalizations. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicated that older adults with multiple hospitalizations may expect an increasing burden on healthcare system. More efforts are needed to improve health insurance and primary healthcare to reduce avoidable hospitalizations.

RESUMEN

N6-Methyladenosine (m6A) stands out as the predominant internal modification in mammalian RNA, exerting crucial regulatory functions in the metabolism of mRNA. Currently available methods have been limited by an inability to quantify m6A modification at precise sites. In this work, we screened a Bst 2.0 warm start DNA polymerase with the capability of discriminating m6A from adenosine (A) and developed a robust m6A RNA detection method that enables isothermal and ultrasensitive quantification of m6A RNA at single-base resolution. The detection limit of the assay could reach about 0.02 amol, and the quantitative accuracy of the assay was verified in real cell samples. Furthermore, we applied this assay to single-cell analysis and found that the coefficients of variation of the MALAT1 m6A 2611 site in glioblastoma U251 cells showed over 20% higher than in oligodendrocytes MO3.13 cells. This method provides a highly sensitive analytical tool for site-specific m6A detection and quantification, which is expected to provide a basis for precise disease diagnosis and epigenetic transcriptional regulation.

RESUMEN

To achieve osteogenesis, angiogenesis, and neurogenesis for repairing bone defects, we constructed an anisotropic microspheres-cryogel composite loaded with magnesium l-threonate (MgT). These composites were prepared by the photo-click reaction of norbornene-modified gelatin (GB) in the presence of MgT-loaded microspheres through the bidirectional freezing method. The composites possessed an anisotropic macroporous (around 100 µm) structure and sustained release of bioactive Mg2+, which facilitate vascular ingrowth. These composites could significantly promote osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, tubular formation of human umbilical vein vessel endothelial cells, and neuronal differentiation in vitro. Additionally, these composites significantly promoted early vascularization and neurogenesis as well as bone regeneration in the rat femoral condyle defects. In conclusion, owing to the anisotropic macroporous microstructure and bioactive MgT, these composites could simultaneously promote bone, blood vessel, and nerve regeneration, showing great potential for bone tissue engineering.

RESUMEN

Cadmium ion (Cd(II)) is a pernicious environmental pollutant that has been shown to contaminate agricultural lands, accumulate through the food chain, and seriously threaten human health. At present, Cd(II) monitoring is dependent on centralized instruments, necessitating the development of rapid and on-site detection platforms. Against this backdrop, the present study reports on the development of a fluorometric aptasensor designed to target Cd(II), which is achieved through the integration of strand displacement amplification (SDA) and CRISPR/Cas12a. In the absence of Cd(II), the aptamer initiates SDA, resulting in the generation of a profusion of ssDNA that activates Cas12a, leading to a substantial increase in fluorescence output. Conversely, the presence of Cd(II) curtails the SDA efficiency, culminating in a significant reduction in fluorescence output. The proposed approach has been demonstrated to enable the selective detection of Cd(II) at concentrations of 60 pM, with the performance of the aptasensor validated in real water and rice samples. The proposed platform based on aptamer-target interaction holds immense promise as a signal-amplified and precise method for the detection of Cd(II) and has the potential to transform current hazard detection practices in food samples.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study aimed to explore the prognostic significance of clinicopathological characteristics in early-onset versus late-onset colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). METHODS: The data of CRLM patients who underwent hepatectomy from September 2010 to September 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the age of primary cancer diagnosis, patients were divided into early-onset CRLM (EOCRLM) and late-onset CRLM (LOCRLM) groups. Clinicopathological parameters were compared between the two groups. Cox regression model and Kaplan-Meier method were used to analyze the effect of clinicopathological parameters on overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). RESULTS: In total, 431 CRLM patients were identified, 130 with EOCRLM and 301 with LOCRLM. Compared with LOCRLM patients, EOCRLM patients had lower American Society of Anesthesia (ASA) grade and longer operation time (204 vs. 179 min). More aggressive features were presented in EOCRLM patients including synchronous liver metastases (76.9% vs. 61.1%) and bilobar involvement (43.8% vs. 33.2%). No significant difference in OS or RFS was found between the two groups. Multivariate analysis of EOCRLM group showed that preoperative CA19-9 level and RAS/BRAF status were predictive of OS, while bilobar involvement and preoperative CEA level were associated with RFS. In LOCRLM group, the number of CRLM, preoperative CA19-9 level, and BRAF status were associated with OS, while the number of CRLM was associated with RFS. CONCLUSIONS: The preoperative CA19-9 level, RAS/BRAF status, bilobar involvement, and preoperative CEA level were predictive of EOCRLM patient prognosis, while the number of CRLM, preoperative CA19-9 level, and BRAF status were predictive of LOCRLM patient prognosis.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: While mean platelet volume (MPV) is linked to severity and all-cause mortality in patients with sepsis, its association with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality in patients treated with peritoneal dialysis (PD) remains unknown. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to estimate the relationship between MPV and all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality among patients treated with PD. METHOD: We retrospectively collected 1322 patients treated with PD from November 1, 2005 to August 31, 2019. All-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality was identified as the primary outcome. MPV was classified into three categories by means of X-tile software. The correlation between MPV and all-cause mortality was assessed by Cox model. Survival curves were performed by Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: The median follow-up period was 50 months (30-80 months), and a total of 360 deaths were recorded. With respect to all-cause mortality, patients in MVP ≥ 10.2 fL had considerably higher risk of all-cause mortality among three models (HR 0.68, 95%CI 0.56-0.84; HR 0.70, 95%CI 0.56-0.87; HR 0.73, 95%CI 0.59-0.91; respectively). Moreover, patients treated with PD, whose MVP ≥ 10.2 fL, also suffered from significantly higher risk of cardiovascular mortality in model 1, 2, and 3 (HR 0.63, 95%CI 0.46-0.85; HR 0.66, 95%CI 0.48-0.91; HR 0.69, 95%CI 0.50-0.95; respectively). CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates that MPV is independently correlated with both all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality in PD.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The true incidence of acute gastrointestinal illness in China is underrecognized by surveillance systems. The aims of this study were to estimate the incidence and prevalence of self-reported AGI in the community of China, and to investigate sociodemographic and epidemiological determinants of AGI. METHODS: We conducted a 12-months cross-sectional population-based survey in eight provinces of China during 2014-2015. The survey determined the prevalence and incidence of acute gastrointestinal illness (AGI) in the total permanent resident population in China according to the census of the population in 2010. The random multilevel population sample was stratified by geographic, population, and socioeconomic status. We used a recommended case definition of AGI, with diarrhea (three loose or watery stools) and/or any vomiting in a four-week recall. A face-to-face survey was conducted by selecting the member in the household with the most recent birthday. RESULTS: Among 56,704 sampled individuals, 948 (1,134 person-time) fulfilled the case definition; 98.5% reported diarrhea. This corresponds to 2.3% (95% CI:1.9%-2.8%) of an overall standardized four-week prevalence and 0.3 (95% CI: 0.23-0.34) episodes per person-year of annual adjusted incidence rate. There was no significant difference between males and females. The incidence rates were higher among urban residents, and in the spring and summer. In the whole study period, 50% of the cases sought medical care, of which 3.9% were hospitalized and 14.3% provided a biological sample for laboratory identification of the causative agent. Children aged 0-4 and young adults aged 15-24, people living in rural areas and people who traveled frequently had higher prevalence of AGI. CONCLUSION: Results showed that AGI represents a substantial burden in China, and will contribute to the estimation of the global burden of AGI. Complemented with data on the etiologies of AGI, these estimates will form the basis to estimate the burden of foodborne diseases in China.

RESUMEN

The transforming growth factor beta (TGF-ß) signaling plays a critical role in immune evasion and tumor progression. However, its modulatory influences on prognosis, tumor microenvironment (TME), and therapeutic efficacy remain unknown in colorectal cancer (CRC). We summarized TGF-ß-related genes and comprehensively estimated their expression pattern in 2142 CRC samples from 9 datasets. Two distinct cluster patterns were divided and biological characteristics of each pattern were further analyzed. Then, to quantify the TGF-ß cluster pattern of individual CRC patient, we generated the TGF-ß score (TGFBscore) model based on TGF-ß cluster pattern-relevant differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Subsequently, we conducted correlation analysis for TGFBscore and clinical prognosis, consensus molecular subtypes (CMSs), TME characteristics, liver metastasis, drug response, and immunotherapeutic efficacy in CRC. We illustrated transcriptional and genetic alterations of TGF-ß-relevant genes, which were closely linked with carcinogenic pathways. We identified two different TGF-ß cluster patterns, characterized by a high and a low TGFBscore. The TGFBscore-high group was significantly linked with worse patient survival, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) activation, liver metastasis tendency, and the infiltration of immunosuppressive cells (regulatory T cells [Tregs], M2 macrophages, cancer-associated fibroblasts [CAFs], and myeloid-derived suppressor cells [MDSCs]), while the TGFBscore-low group was linked with a survival advantage, epithelial phenotype, early CRC staging, and the infiltration of immune-activated cells (B cell, CD4 T cell, natural killer T [NKT] cell, and T helper 1 [Th1] cell). In terms of predicting drug response, TGFBscore negatively correlated (sensitive to TGFBscore-high group) with drugs targeting PI3K/mTOR, JNK and p38, RTK signaling pathways, and positively correlated (sensitive to TGFBscore-low group) with drugs targeting EGFR signaling pathway. Also, TGFBscore could predict the efficacy of different anti-tumor therapies. TGFBscore-low patients might benefit more from anti-PDL1 immunotherapy, adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT), and ERBB targeted therapy, whereas TGFBscore-high patients might benefit more from antiangiogenic targeted therapy. Our study constructed a novel TGF-ß scoring model that could predict prognosis, liver metastasis tendency, and TME characteristics for CRC patients. More importantly, this work emphasizes the potential clinical utility of TGFBscore in evaluating the efficacy of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, guiding individualized precision treatment in CRC.

RESUMEN

Foodborne diseases have become a serious public health problem worldwide, and foodborne disease outbreaks have placed a heavy disease burden on China. Foodborne disease outbreaks occur most frequently among families in China. The objectives of this study were to analyze the cause of household foodborne disease outbreaks in China from 2010 to 2020 and to identify where preventive measures could be targeted. All data were obtained from the China Foodborne Disease Surveillance System Report. A total of 17,985 outbreaks, which resulted in 73,252 illnesses, 38,829 hospitalizations, and 1269 deaths, were reported in this period. Most household outbreaks of foodborne diseases occurred in May-October, and the highest number occurred in July (3620 outbreaks, 20%). The province with the highest number of outbreaks was Yunnan Province (4829 outbreaks), followed by Hunan Province (2264 outbreaks). The attribution analysis revealed that fungi (mainly poisonous mushrooms) were the most implicated food category, with 8873 (49.3%) cases. The second was poisonous plants and their products, with 1552 (8.6%) cases. Fungi were the primary etiologic agent, with 31,125 illnesses, accounting for 42.5% of the incidents. Inedibility and misuse (9423 outbreaks), unknown origin (2505 outbreaks), and improper processing (2365 outbreaks) were the main contributing factors causing outbreaks of foodborne diseases. The results show that southwest China was a high-risk area for household foodborne diseases. Therefore, public health institutions should strengthen supervision and food safety education of residents to reduce the outbreaks of household foodborne diseases.

RESUMEN

Invasive listeriosis is a rare but serious foodborne disease that causes maternal-neonatal, central nervous system, and bloodstream infections. The aim of this study was to assess the whole-genome sequencing (WGS)-based genetic diversity of clinical Listeria monocytogenes isolates over a 7-year period and prove the effect of WGS application in food vehicle investigation. A total of 360 isolates were recovered during 2013 and 2019 through the national listeriosis special surveillance program. Two hundred twenty-six isolates (62.8%) were associated with pregnancy. All isolates belonged to lineage I (214 isolates) or lineage II (146 isolates), with 4 serogroups (46.9% IIb, 39.7% IIa, 12.5% IVb, and 0.8% IIc). All isolates were in 25 clonal complexes (CCs) and 3 singletons, with CC87, CC8, and CC5 being the most common causes of human listeriosis. All clinical isolates were positive for Listeria pathogenicity island 1 (LIPI-1), LIPI-3 was present in 21.4% of isolates and LIPI-4 was detected in 29.2% of isolates. LIPI-4-positive isolates, including CC87, sequence type (ST)619, ST382, CC4, and CC2, have been shown to confer hypervirulence. Fifteen isolates harbored at least one antimicrobial encoding gene, including tet (M), mef (A), msr (D), and dfr (G). The sublineage designations were consistent with CC designations, and 215 distinct cgMLST types (CTs) were classified, the most abundant being CT58 and CT750. In summary, there is a high level of genetic diversity among the clinical isolates. WGS has strengthened listeriosis surveillance and will be implemented for other foodborne bacteria in the National Molecular Tracing Network for Foodborne Disease.

RESUMEN

Here, we report an ultracompact angular displacement sensor based on the Talbot effect of optical microgratings. Periodic Talbot interference patterns were obtained behind an upper optical grating. By putting another grating within the Talbot region, the total transmission of the two-grating structure was found to be approximatively in a linear relationship with the relative pitch angle between the two gratings, which was explained by a transversal shift of the Talbot interference patterns. The influence of the grating parameters (e.g., the grating period, the number of grating lines and the gap between the two gratings) was also studied in both a simulation and an experiment, showing a tunable sensitivity and range by simply changing the grating parameters. A sensitivity of 0.19 mV/arcsec was experimentally obtained, leading to a relative sensitivity of 0.27%/arcsec within a linear range of ±396 arcsec with the 2 µm-period optical gratings. Benefitting from tunable properties and an ultracompact structure, we believe that the proposed sensor shows great potential in applications such as aviation, navigation, robotics and manufacturing engineering.

RESUMEN

The RNA contained in exosomes plays a crucial role in information transfer between cells in various life activities. The accurate detection of low-abundance exosome RNA (exRNA) is of great significance for cell function studies and the early diagnosis of diseases. However, their intrinsic properties, such as their short length and high sequence homology, represent great challenges for exRNA detection. In this paper, we developed a dual-signal isothermal amplification method based on rolling circle amplification (RCA) coupled with DNAzyme (RCA-DNAzyme). The sensitive detection of low-abundance exRNA, the specific recognition of their targets and the amplification of the detection signal were studied and explored. By designing padlock probes to specifically bind to the target exRNA, while relying on the ligation reaction to enhance recognition, the precise targeting of exosome RNA was realized. The combination of RCA and DNAzyme could achieve a twice-as-large isothermal amplification of the signal compared to RCA alone. This RCA-DNAzyme assay could sensitively detect a target exRNA at a concentration as low as 527 fM and could effectively distinguish the target from other miRNA sequences. In addition, this technology was successfully proven to be effective for the quantitative detection of miR-21 by spike recovery, providing a new research approach for the accurate detection of low-abundance exRNA and the exploration of unknown exRNA functions.

RESUMEN

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an extremely common endocrine-metabolic disorder and the main cause of infertility in premenopausal women, thus targeted treatments are sorely needed. Accumulative evidence showed that exogenous supplementation of IL-22 in PCOS mice may be of significant positive effect on insulin resistance (IR), a root causative factor for this condition, but much remained unknown about its mechanism. According to our previous study, troxerutin, a common anticoagulant and thrombolytic agent in clinic, alleviated various PCOS-like phenotypes in dihydrotestosterone (DHT)-treated rat model with unclear mechanism. Here, glucose tolerance tests (GTTs), insulin tolerance tests (ITTs), and homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) analyses revealed that troxerutin treatment in DHT-treated rats also significantly improved insulin resistance and enhanced serum IL-22 levels, which thereby activated IL-22R1/Janus kinase 1 (JAK1)/signal transducer and activator of transcription-3 (STAT3) signaling pathway in pancreatic islet. This protective effect of troxerutin on insulin resistance improvement was blocked by an inhibitor of p-STAT3, S3I-201. Troxerutin administration to DHT rats decreased the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium and enhanced secondary bile acid profiles, which were positively correlated with serum IL-22 concentration. Conclusively, the present study reported that troxerutin is an endogenous enhancer of IL-22 and the effect of troxerutin on insulin resistance improvement was via IL-22R1/JAK1/STAT3 signaling activation in a DHT-induced PCOS rat model. These insights may be translated into a primary therapeutic agent for PCOS with insulin resistance and hyperandrogenism.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Troxerutin decreased the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium, along with enhancement of secondary bile acids/IL-22 system, which thereby activated its downstream IL-22R1/JAK1/STAT3 signaling pathway in pancreatic ß cells, subsequently attenuated insulin resistance (IR), hyperandrogenism and PCOS-like phenotypes in DHT-induced PCOS rat models. Troxerutin is an endogenous IL-22 enhancer and may be of therapeutic value for PCOS with insulin resistance.

RESUMEN

Differential expression of RNA splice variants among individual cells accounts for cell heterogeneity of gene expression, which plays a key role in the regulation of the immune system. However, currently available techniques face difficulties in achieving single-cell analysis of RNA splice variants with high base resolution, high spatial resolution and accurate quantification. Herein, we constructed DNA-templated dual-functional nanocluster probes to achieve in situ imaging and accurate quantification of RNA splice variants at the single-cell level. By designing ultrasmall nanocluster labeled probes to directly target the splicing junction sequence of RNA splice variants, the base recognition resolution is significantly improved. Benefit from the controllable fluorescence of nanoclusters, in situ imaging and genotyping of RNA splice variants are achieved. Due to the atom-precise nanocluster, RNA splice variants can be accurately quantified by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry at the single-cell level. We further applied the probes to explore the function of MyD88 splice variants in mononuclear macrophages under immune activation. This strategy provides a novel single-cell analysis tool for studying the functional diversity of the immune system and splicing-related immune diseases.

RESUMEN

Based on Talbot effect of optical microgratings, we report an ultra-compact sensor for displacement and vibration measurement with resolution down to sub-nanometer level. With no need of optical components such as reflectors, splitters, polarizers, and wave plates, the proposed sensor based on a common-path structure shows a high compactness. Using gratings with period of 3 µm, displacement measurement within a range of 1 mm is demonstrated experimentally. Associated with an interpolation circuit with subdividing factor of 4096, a resolution of 0.73 nm is obtained. The experimental results also show the ability for the sensor to detect in-plane vibration with frequency below 900 Hz. With a sub-nanometer resolution and an ultra-compact structure, the miniature sensor shows potential in applications such as high-precision machinery manufacturing and semiconductor processing.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The clinicopathological and prognostic significance of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) status in surgically resected colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) remains uncertain. METHODS: HER2 expression was evaluated by immunohistochemical (IHC) in two CRLM tissue microarrays (TMAs). For samples with an IHC score of 2+ or 3+, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was performed to assess HER2 amplification. The association of HER2 amplification with clinicopathological parameters and prognosis was assessed using Fisher's exact test and Kaplan-Meier method, respectively. RESULTS: HER2 expression was consistent between primary tumor and liver metastases in 66.9% (85/127) cases (r = 0.643, p = 0.001). After FISH validation, HER2 amplification was identified in 6.25% (13/208) patients. HER2 amplification was significantly associated with age (p = 0.017), bilobar involvement (p = 0.005) and left-sided RAS/RAF wild-type status (p = 0.002). In the overall cohort, HER2 amplification was correlated with significantly worse relapse-free survival (RFS). Further stratification revealed that among left-sided RAS/RAF wild-type cases, HER2 amplification was significantly associated with worse overall survival (OS) (30.2 vs. 50.9 months, p = 0.040) and RFS (5.77 vs. 19.97 months, p = 0.017). CONCLUSION: HER2 amplification is more enriched in CRLMs with younger age, left-sided RAS/RAF wild-type, and bilobar involvement. Moreover, HER2 amplification predicts a poorer prognosis especially in left-sided RAS/RAF wild-type CRLMs.

RESUMEN

Sensory impairments, such as visual and hearing impairments, and cognitive decline are prevalent among mid-age and older adults in China. With 4-year longitudinal data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, we assessed the association between self-reported sensory impairments and episodic memory. Multivariate linear mixed-effects models were used to estimate the association of baseline sensory impairment in 2011-2012 with cognitive decline at 2- and 4-year follow-up visits. Among the 13,097 participants, longitudinal associations were identified between having hearing loss (ß = -0.14, 95% CI: -0.22, -0.05), having both poor hearing and vision (ß = -0.14, 95% CI: -0.23, -0.04) and decline in immediate word recall over 4 years, compared to those without self-reported sensory impairment. In addition, these associations were more significant among those aged 60 and older and among women. Further research is needed to investigate these associations in the longer term, providing evidence to support interventions that can prevent or delay sensory impairments and preserve cognitive functions in older adults.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Despite rising incomes and rapid economic growth, there remains a significant gender gap in health outcomes among rural children in China. This study examines whether the gender gap in child health is related to the behavior of caregivers when seeking healthcare, and whether healthcare subsidies help to bridge the gender gap in rural health outcomes. METHODS: Focusing on vision care specifically, we draw on data from a randomized controlled trial of 13,100 children in Gansu and Shaanxi provinces in China that provided subsidized eyeglasses to myopic children in one set of schools (henceforth, referred to as the treatment schools) and provided prescription information but not subsidized eyeglasses to myopic children in another set of schools (control schools). RESULTS: The baseline results reveal that while female students generally have worse vision than male students, they are significantly less likely than male students to be taken by their caregivers to a vision exam. The experimental results indicate, however, that caregivers respond positively to both health information and subsidized healthcare, regardless of the gender of their children. When prescription information is paired with a subsidy voucher for healthcare (a free pair of eyeglasses), the uptake rate rises dramatically. CONCLUSIONS: The gender gap in healthcare can be minimized by implementing subsidized healthcare policies. TRIAL REGISTRATION: The protocol for this study was approved in full by Institutional Review Boards at Stanford University (Palo Alto, California, USA) and the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University (ZOC, Guangzhou, China). Permission was received from local Boards of Education in each region and from the principals of all schools. The principles of the Declaration of Helsinki were followed throughout. The original trial (Registration site: http://isrctn.org . Registration number: ISRCTN03252665 ) was designed to study the effect of providing free spectacles on children's educational performance. The original trial was retrospectively registered on 09/25/2012.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: China has experienced a continuing increase in hypertension prevalence over the past few decades, especially in rural areas. The paper aims to examine the variation of urban-rural disparities in hypertension prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control among Chinese middle-aged and older adults between 2011 and 2015. METHODS: Our team extracted data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), a nationally representative survey of residents aged 45 years and older. In this study, we used the 2011 wave and the 2015 wave of CHARLS. We calculated crude rates and age-adjusted rates of hypertension prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control for the general, urban, and rural populations in each wave and performed chi-square tests to examine urban-rural disparities. We used logistic regression to further confirm these disparities by controlling confounding factors in each wave. We then used generalized estimating equation (GEE) to further examine whether urban-rural disparities changed between 2011 and 2015. RESULTS: We included 11,129 records in the 2011 wave and 8916 records in the 2015 wave in this study. The mean age was 59.0 years and 5359 (48.2%) participants were male in the 2011 wave. Age-adjusted hypertension prevalence, awareness, treatment, control, and control among treated in the total population were 38.5%, 70.6%, 59.2%, 27.4%, and 46.4% in 2015. Urban-rural disparities in the indicators mentioned above were 5.7%, 13.4%, 15.3%, 9.4% and 5.6% in 2011; which decreased to 4.8%, 2.7%, 5.2%, 4.9% and 3.8% in 2015. Urban-rural disparities in prevalence, awareness and treatment were statistically significant in 2011 but not significant in 2015 adjusted for confounding factors, yet control disparities were statistically significant in both waves. Finally, urban-rural disparities in awareness and treatment had narrowed from 2011 to 2015. CONCLUSIONS: Awareness, treatment, and control rates were sub-optimal among both urban and rural adults. Prevention and management of hypertension among both urban and rural adults should be further strengthened. Awareness and treatment increased more rapidly among rural adults, indicating some achievement had been made in enhancing the healthcare system in rural areas. More efforts are needed in attaining urban-rural equity of healthcare services.

RESUMEN

Based on the Talbot effect of optical gratings, we propose a novel out-of-plane optical displacement sensor with an ultracompact structure, to the best of our knowledge. Using two optical gratings with a slight angle between them, two angular-modulated signals with a phase difference of 90° are obtained associated with a two-quadrant photodetector, which are in sinusoidal relationship with the displacement in the direction perpendicular to the grating plane. Using an interpolation subdivision circuit with a subdivision factor of 1000, out-of-plane displacement measurement with a resolution of 11.23 nm within a range of 1 mm is obtained.
