RESUMEN

Spin-coating one polymer solution on another spin-cast polymer film is believed to result in unfavorable interfacial mixing. Here, we show some results to demonstrate that some interesting properties will be obtained in such mixed bilayer films formed by sequential spin-coating. Poly(9-vinylcarbazole) and poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-2,7-diyl) were chosen as the first and second polymer layers, respectively. By varying the initial thickness of the first layer, some interesting variations were observed. The spectroscopic features of beta-phase polyfluorene were utilized to reflect the variations at the complicated interface. Morphologies were also presented to illustrate that the variations of spectroscopic features were accompanied with some interesting morphological changes. On the basis of these results, a schematic model was proposed to gain insight into the mixed interface formed by sequential spin-coating. Polymer light-emitting devices based on such films were also investigated.

RESUMEN

Numerous hybrid white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) have recently been developed. However, their efficiency is not comparable to that of their best all-phosphorescent WOLED counterparts, and the structures are usually complicated, restricting their further development. Herein, a novel concept is used to achieve a hybrid WOLED, whose crucial feature is the exploitation of double multifunctional blue emitting layers. The three-organic-layer WOLED exhibits a total efficiency of 89.3 and 65.1 lm W-1 at 100 and 1000 cd m-2, respectively, making it the most efficient hybrid WOLED reported in the literature so far. Significantly, the efficiencies of hybrid WOLEDs have, for the first time, been demonstrated to be comparable to those of the best all-phosphorescent WOLEDs. In addition, the device exhibits the lowest voltages among hybrid WOLEDs (i.e., 2.4, 2.7 and 3.1 V for 1, 100 and 1000 cd m-2, respectively). Such remarkable performance achieved from such an ultrasimplified structure opens a new path toward low-cost commercialization.

RESUMEN

Two series of new oligothiophene-pentacene hybrid compounds were successfully synthesized and characterized, which consist of pentacene and anthradithiophene skeletons modified by different oligothienyl groups at 6,13 sites or 5,11 sites, respectively. Their optical, thermal, and electrochemical properties show regular variations with the length change of the side groups. These materials exhibit much higher solubility and significantly improved thermal and photooxidation stabilities compared with unmodified pentacene and anthradithiophene.
