BACKGROUND: Distiller's grains (DGs), which are rich in natural ingredients such as prolamins, are often used as low-value feed or discarded directly, resulting in great environmental pollution and resource waste. Prolamins from DGs (PDGs) were found to be a potential material for the construction of biopolymer films due to their good film-forming properties. In this study, extrusion processing was conducted to modify the physicochemical and structural properties of PDGs to facilitate the construction of biopolymer films with superior characteristics. RESULTS: Results indicated that extrusion led to improved solubility (17.91% to 39.95%) and increased disulfide bonds (1.46 to 6.13 µmol g-1) in PDGs. The total and sulfur amino acid contents of extruded PDGs were increased by 13.26% and 38.83%, respectively. New aggregation patterns were formed after extrusion according to the results of scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Extrusion resulted in reduced surface hydrophobicity of PDGs (10 972 to 3632), sufficient evidence for which could be also found from structure analyses of PDGs. Finally, PDGs extruded at 110 °C were found to facilitate the forming of biopolymer films with superior mechanical properties, water resistance and thermal stability. CONCLUSIONS: Physicochemical and structural properties of PDGs were effectively modified by extrusion processing, and extrusion modification of PDGs could be a great way to facilitate the construction of biopolymer films with superior characteristics. It could provide more possibilities to extend the applications of DGs to alleviate the problems of environmental pollution and resource waste. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

The extrusion process, a vital technique for starch modification, is notably influenced by the moisture content (MC). This study aimed to elucidate the effect of varying MC levels (18, 22, 26, and 30%) on the structural and physicochemical characteristics of cassava flour during extrusion. Extrusion resulted in the fraction of degree of polymerization 13‒24, degree of branching, and molecular weight increased with increasing MC, with values of above indexes being 32.29%, 1.05%, and 1.21 × 105 g/mol, respectively, at a MC of 18%. This suggested that the degradation of amylopectin and amylose. Additionally, there was an increase in rapidly digestible starch (RDS) and a decrease in slowly digestible starch (SDS) in the extrudates in comparison to the native cassava flour. The extrusion of cassava flour at 18% MC exhibited the highest levels of RDS and SDS, reaching 64.52% and 4.06%, respectively. These findings indicated that low moisture extrusion could be a more effective method for disrupting the structure of cassava starch and enhancing the digestibility of cassava flour, offering valuable insights for the optimized use of cassava extrudates in various applications.

The rapid and efficient consumption of carbon and nitrogen sources by brewer's yeast is critical for the fermentation process in the brewing industry. The comparison of the growth characterizations of typical ale and lager yeast, as well as their consumption preference to carbon and nitrogen sources were investigated in this study. Results showed that the ale strain grew faster and had a more extended stationary phase than the lager strain. However, the lager strain was more tolerant to the stressful environment in the later stage of fermentation. Meanwhile, the ale and lager yeast strains possessed varying preferences for metabolizing the specific fermentable sugar or free amino acid involved in the wort medium. The lager strain had a strong capacity to synthesize the extracellular invertase required for hydrolyzing sucrose as well as a strong capability to metabolize glucose and fructose. Furthermore, the lager strain had an advantage in consuming Lys, Arg, Val, and Phe, whereas the ale strain had a higher assimilation rate in consuming Tyr. These findings provide valuable insights into selecting the appropriate brewer's yeast strain based on the wort components for the industrial fermentation process. KEY POINTS: • The lager strain is more tolerant to the stressful environment. • The lager strain has the great capability to synthesize the extracellular invertase. • The assimilation efficiency of free amino acid varies between ale and lager.

Previous studies have found that acute stress can modulate response inhibition. However, the effect of chronic stress on response inhibition has not been investigated. A major examination was adopted as a chronic stressor in this study. Both the stress and control groups performed a modified Go/Nogo task. In each trial, a probe stimulus (left or right arrow) was presented immediately after the Go/Nogo task. The probe reaction time (RT) was used as an index of cognitive load during the task. Event-related potentials (ERPs) evoked by Go/Nogo stimuli were investigated. The RTs for the Go stimulus and the probe stimulus were shorter for the stress group than for the control group. This superior performance by stressed participants might suggest a promoted task processing efficiency during the dual task under stress. A smaller probe RT effect (RTNogo - RTGo) was found in the stress group than in the control group, indicating a facilitatory effect of stress on conflict resolution. The ERP results showed that the P2 Go/Nogo effect was smaller for the stress group than for the control group, driven by an increased P2 amplitude after Go trials for the stress group. This might indicate an enhancement of attentional resource allocation to the Go stimuli under stress. Both the Nogo P3 amplitude and the P3 Go/Nogo effect were enhanced in the stress group than in the control group, suggesting that conflict resolution was enhanced under stress. These results demonstrate that chronic academic stress might facilitate response inhibition by promoting conflict resolution.

Yeast cell factories have been increasingly employed for producing plant-derived natural products. Unfortunately, the stability of plant natural product biosynthetic pathway genes, particularly when driven by the same sets of promoters and terminators, remains one of the biggest concerns for synthetic biology. Here we profile genomic loci flanked by essential genes as stable integration sites in a genome-wide manner, for stable maintenance of multigene biosynthetic pathways in yeast. We demonstrate the application of our yeast integration platform in the construction of sanguinarine (24 expression cassettes) and ajmalicine (29 expression cassettes) de novo biosynthetic pathways for the first time. Moreover, we establish stable yeast cell factories that can produce 119.2 mg L-1 heteroyohimbine alkaloids (containing 61.4 mg L-1 ajmalicine) in shake flasks, representing the highest titer of monoterpene indole alkaloids (MIAs) ever reported and promising the complete biosynthesis of other high-value MIAs (such as vinblastine) for biotechnological applications.

BACKGROUND: Respiratory viral infections (RSV) can induce acute asthma attacks, thereby destroying lung function and accelerating the progression of the disease. However, medications in the stable phase of asthma are often not effective for acute attacks induced by viral infections. We aimed to clarify the possible mechanism of viral infection-induced asthma through fatty acid metabolism. METHODS AND RESULTS: The airway resistances, inflammatory injuries, and oxidative stress in the RSV-induced animal models were significantly higher than those in the control group at acute phase (7 days) and chronic phase (28 days). Moreover, the concentrations of the medium- and long-chain fatty acids in lung tissue at (28 days) were significantly increased, including 14:0 (myristic acid), 16:0 (palmitic acid, PA), 18:1 (oleic acid, OA), and 18:2 (linoleic acid, LA) using non-targeted metabonomics. Airway epithelial cells treated with RSV showed the reduced expression of FSP27, RAB8A, and PLIN5, which caused the fusion and growth of lipid droplet (LD), and increased expression of the LD dispersion gene perilipin 2. There was also a decrease in PPARγ expression and an increase in the fatty acid catabolism gene PPARα, causing lipid oxidation, free fatty acid releases, and an upsurge in IL-1, IL-2, IL-4, and IL-6 expression, which could be abrogated by GPR40 inhibitor. Treated mice or epithelial cells with C18 fatty acid exhibited inhibition of epithelial proliferation, increases of inflammation, and oxidative damage. CONCLUSIONS: RSV promoted lipid dispersion and utilization, causing enlarged oxidative injuries and an upsurge in the pro-inflammatory cytokines, leading to the progression of airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR).

This study aimed to investigate whether the N2 or P3 component in the count/no-count task reflects response inhibition. The participants were asked to count/withhold counting the number of O/X letters in the count/no-count task, and to calculate the sum of all digits (i.e., 1/0) in the digital accumulation task. Therefore, four conditions were obtained in this study: count, no-count, Add 1, and Add 0. In the count and Add 1 conditions, the counting/calculation number need to be updated. In both no-count and Add 0 conditions, the memory of counting/calculation number need not to be updated; a No-go (withhold) instruction was given in the no-count condition, but a Go instruction was given in the Add 0 condition. Results showed that an enhanced fronto-central N2 was evoked in the no-count than in the Add 0 condition, indicating that a stronger response conflict or stronger inhibition might be triggered in the No-count condition. The frontocentral P3 showed no differences between no-count and Add 0 conditions, however, an enhanced centro-parietal P3 component was observed for the count relative to the no-count condition and for the Add 1 relative to the Add 0 condition, indicating that a greater amount of attentional resources might be consumed during memory updating process. Taken together, in the count/no-count task, the fronto-central N2 might reflect response inhibition or conflict and the parietal P3 might reflect attentional resource allocation but not response inhibition.

The present study aimed to separate the neural activities between response inhibition and memory updating processes in the Count/Nocount task. Memory load was manipulated to investigate the memory updating process. Within each trial, participants were asked to count/withhold counting the number of O/X letters in the Count/Nocount task. The participants were asked to silently add 1 if a Count letter was presented in the low load condition, and add 2 in the high load condition. Data from 28 healthy participants showed that: (1) in both high load and low load conditions, the latencies of P2 and N2 components were shorter for the Nocount than Count trials, indicating faster attentional orienting and conflict monitoring processes for the Nocount stimuli (i.e., inhibition processes triggered by the Nocount stimuli against those response execution processes triggered by Count stimuli); (2) more positive frontal P3 amplitudes were evoked for the Nocount relative to the Count stimuli, indicating a more intensive response inhibition process for the Nocount trials; (3) a more positive parietal P3 component was evoked for the low load relative to high load condition, indicating a more intensive working memory updating process for the high load condition. This load effect was absent for the frontal P3 component, suggesting that the frontal P3 might not be associated with the memory updating process. In sum, both the cognitive inhibition process (reflected by the frontal P3 component) and working memory updating process (reflected by the parietal P3 component) appear to be involved in the Count/Nocount task.

Antibiotic inefficacy in treating bacterial infections is largely studied in the context of developing resistance mechanisms. However, little attention has been paid to combined diseases mechanisms, interspecies pathogenesis and the resulting impact on antimicrobial treatment. This review will consider the co-infections of Salmonella and Schistosoma mansoni. It summarises the protective mechanisms that the pathophysiology of the two infections confer, which leads to an antibiotic protection phenomenon. This review will elucidate the functional characteristics of the gut microbiota in the context of these co-infections, the pathogenicity of these infections in infected mice, and the efficacy of the antibiotics used in treatment of these co-infections over time. Salmonella-Schistosoma interactions and the mechanism for antibiotic protection are not well established. However, antimicrobial drug inefficacy is an existing phenomenon in these co-infections. The treatment of schistosomiasis to ensure the efficacy of antibiotic therapy for bacterial infections should be considered in co-infected patients. Co-infections of Salmonella and Schistosoma mansoni confers the protective mechanisms that give ineffetive treatment of salmonella. The functional characteristics of the gut microbiota in the context of these co-infections influence the pathogenicity of the both pathogens thereby drecreasing immunity and brings changes in gut metabolism.

Pea flour was extruded at 50, 70, and 90 °C. The in vitro digestibility and characteristics of native and extruded pea flour were investigated. The in vitro starch digestibility (IVSD) and in vitro protein digestibility (IVPD) of the extruded pea flour were higher than those of the native pea flour and increased with increasing extrusion temperature from 50 to 90 °C. The rapidly digestible starch increased to 28.34% at 90 °C, the highest slowly digestible starch (SDS) content was 22.70% at 50 °C, and resistant starch content decreased to 4.71% at 90 °C. The IVPD increased from 80.94% relative to the native pea flour to 90.21% at 90 °C. Improved swelling power enabled the extruded pea flour to exhibit better performance and higher breakdown viscosity and lower setback viscosity than the native pea flour demonstrated that extrusion reduced the thermal stability and retrogradation tendency. Increasing extrusion temperatures greatly reduced the relative crystallinity (based on X-ray diffraction analysis) from 32.69% relative to the native pea flour to 9.76% at 90 °C. Extrusion treatment also reduced ß-sheet content (based on Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis) from 36.40% relative to the native pea flour to 31.79% at 90 °C. IVPD and IVSD improved, and the SDS content increased at 50 °C and 70 °C, thereby indicating that extruded pea flour can be applied to healthy food products.

OBJECTIVES: Many studies have shown that respiratory syncytial virus persistent infection may be the main cause of chronic respiratory pathology.However, the mechanism is unclear. Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conduction regulator (CFTR) is an apical membrane chloride channel, which is very important for the regulation of epithelial fluid, chloride ion, and bicarbonate transport. CFTR dysfunction will lead to changes in bronchial secretions and impair mucus clearance, which is related to airway inflammation. In our previous study, we observed the down-regulation of CFTR in airway epithelial cells in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infected mouse model. In this study, we further investigated the expression and function of CFTR by constructing an airway epithelial cell model of RSV persistent infection. METHODS: 16HBE14o- cells were infected with RSV at 0.01 multiplicity of infection (MOI). The expression of CFTR was detected by real-time RT-PCR, immunofluorescence, and Western blotting. The intracellular chloride concentration was measured by N-(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)-6-methoxyquinolium bromide (MQAE) and the chloride current was measured by whole-cell patch clamp recording. RESULTS: 16HBE14o- cells infected with RSV were survived to successive passages of the third generation (G3), while the expression and function of CFTR was progressively decreased upon RSV infection from the first generation (G1) to G3. Exposure of 16HBE14o- cells to RSV led to the gradual increase of TGF-ß1 as well as phosphorylation of Smad2 following progressive RSV infection. Disruption of TGF-ß1 signaling by SB431542 prevented Smad2 phosphorylation and rescued the expression of CFTR. CONCLUSIONS: RSV infection can lead to defective CFTR function in airway epithelial cells, which may be mediated via activation of TGF-ß1 signaling pathway.

RESUMEN

A Gram-stain-negative, facultative anaerobic, red-pigmented, rod-shaped and non-motile strain (RC1_OXG_1FT) was isolated from deep sea water of the Indian Ocean. It was able to grow at pH 5-8 (optimum, pH 7), at 5-37 °C (optimum, 30 °C), and at salinity (% NaCl, w/v) of 0.5-5 % (optimum, 1-2 %). Catalase- and oxidase-positive. It had highest 16S rRNA gene similarity (96.7 %) to 'Sunxiuqinia dokdonensis' DH1T, followed by Sunxiuqinia faeciviva JAM-BA0302T (96.6 %), Sunxiuqinia elliptica CGMCC 1.9156T (96.2 %), Sunxiuqinia rutila HG677T (96.0 %) and species (less than 92.3 %) of other genera. It belongs to the genus Sunxiuqinia within the phylum Bacteroidetes, based on the phylogenetic analysis. The results of digital DNA-DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity analyses indicated that the strain belonged to a novel species. Its genome size is 5,250, 885 bp, with DNA G+C content of 40.5 mol%. Genome analysis revealed that the strain possessed many genes involved in polysaccharide degradation, especially hemicellulose degradation, indicating that the strain could maintain its normal metabolism by using recalcitrant organic matter in the oligotrophic deep sea environment. Its principal fatty acids were anteiso-C15 : 0 and iso-C15 : 0 and the major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified glycolipids, three unidentified phospholipids and two unidentified polar lipids. The isoprenoid quinone was MK-7. Based on the phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genotypic data, the strain represents a novel species within the genus Sunxiuqinia, for which the name Sunxiuqinia indica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is RC1_OXG_1FT (=MCCC 1A13858T=KCTC 62805T).

A Gram-stain-negative, motile, aerobic and heterotrophic bacterium, designated as GYS_M3HT, was isolated from marine coastal sediment sampled at Xiamen Island. Cells were rod-shaped with one polar flagellum and weakly positive for oxidase and catalase. Growth of the strain occurred at pH 6-9 (optimum, pH 7-8), at 15-37 °C (optimum, 28 °C) and with NaCl concentrations of 1.0-6.0 % (optimum, 2.0 %). It had highest 16S rRNA similarity (97.7 %) to Ketobacter alkanivorans GI5T, followed by the members of the genus Alcanivorax (lower than 91.2 %). The results of phylogenetic analysis indicated that it belonged to the genus Ketobacter within the family Alcanivoracaceae. In addition, the average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain GYS_M3HT and K. alkanivorans GI5T were 71.4 and 19.7 %, respectively, indicating that strain GYS_M3HT belonged to a novel species. Its genome consisted of 5 318 758 bp, with a genomic DNA G+C content of 50.0 mol%. The respiratory quinone was Q-8 and the dominant fatty acids were identified as iso-C15 : 0 (25.4 %), C16 : 1 ω6c/C16 : 1 ω7c (14.4 %) and iso-C13 : 0 (7.2 %). The main polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol. Therefore, based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic results, strain GYS_M3HT represents a novel species within the genus Ketobacter, for which the name Ketobacter nezhaii sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain GYS_M3HT (=MCCC 1A13808T=KCTC 72247T).

Two Gram-stain-negative, short rod-shaped and non-flagellated strains, designated 17-4AT and L52-1-41, were isolated from the surface seawater of the Indian Ocean and South China Sea, respectively. The 16S rRNA genes of the two strains shared sequence similarity of 99.45 %. Strain 17-4AT shared the highest 16S rRNA gene similarity of 98.02 % with Pusillimonas caeni EBR-8-1T, followed by Pusillimonas noertemannii BN9T (97.47 %), Pusillimonas soli MJ07T (96.93 %), Parapusillimonas granuli Ch07T (96.68 %), Pusillimonas ginsengisoli DCY25T (96.65 %), Eoetvoesia caeni PB3-7BT (96.63 %), Paracandidimonas caeni 24T (96.34 %), Castellaniella defragrans 54PinT (96.28 %) and Pusillimonas harenae B201T (96.05 %). L52-1-41 shared the highest 16S rRNA gene similarity of 97.74 % with Pusillimonas caeni EBR-8-1T, followed by Pusillimonas noertemannii BN9T (97.47 %), Pusillimonas soli MJ07T (96.65 %), Parapusillimonas granuli Ch07T (96.41 %), Pusillimonas ginsengisoli DCY25T (96.37 %), Eoetvoesia caeni PB3-7BT (96.35 %), Pusillimonas harenae B201T (96.28 %), and Paracandidimonas caeni 24T (96.06 %). The results of phylogenetic analyses indicated that 17-4AT and L52-1-41 formed a stable, distinct and highly supported lineage affiliated to the genus Pusillimonas. The results of the digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) analyses indicated that they represented a single species. They featured similar genomic DNA G+C contents of 53.2-53.4 mol%. Activities of catalase and oxidase were negative for both strains. The fatty acids patterns of 17-4AT and L52-1-41 were most similar, mostly comprised of C16 : 0, C17 : 0cyclo, C18 : 0, C18 : 1ω9c and summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1 ω6c). The major polar lipids of the two strains were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and unidentified aminolipids. The respiratory quinone of the two strains was Q-8. Hence, on the basis of the phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genotypic data presented in this study, we proposed the classification of both strains as representatives of a novel species named Pusillimonas maritima sp. nov., with the type strain 17-4AT (=MCCC 1A12670T=KCTC 62121T=NBRC 113794T), and another strain L52-1-41 (=MCCC 1A05046=KCTC 52313).

In previous item-method directed forgetting (DF) studies, forgetting may have occurred when the maintenance rehearsal of memory items was performed. In this study, a modified item-method DF paradigm was adopted to investigate whether forgetting instruction could produce a positive effect on forgetting the items that were elaborately rehearsed. During the study phase, a to-be-forgotten (TBF) word was followed by a forgetting cue. If no cue followed, the word was a to-be-remembered (TBR) item. Participants were required to intentionally memorize the word when it appeared. During the test phase, a yes/no recognition (Experiment 1) or a remember/know procedure (Experiment 2) was adopted. The behavioural results revealed that both the hit rate (Experiment 1) and remembering rate (Experiment 2) were higher for TBR relative to TBF words. For correctly identified old words, reaction times were consistently shorter for TBR compared to TBF words. These results revealed superior memory retention for TBR than for TBF words. The event-related potential (ERP) results revealed that, during both FN400 and late-positive complex (LPC) time windows, the remembered TBR words evoked more positive ERPs than the remembered TBF words and correctly rejected (CR) words (i.e., FN400 and LPC old/new effects). However, more negative ERPs were evoked for both remembered and forgotten TBF words than for CR words during the LPC time window (i.e., reversed LPC old/new effect). These results demonstrated that TBF words were associated with lower level of familiarity and recollection process than TBR words. The memory representation of TBF information might be inhibited.

Recent research has demonstrated that resting-state functional connectivity (RS-FC) within the human auditory cortex (HAC) is frequency-selective, but whether RS-FC between the HAC and other brain areas is differentiated by frequency remains unclear. Three types of data were collected in this study, including resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data, task-based fMRI data using six pure tone stimuli (200, 400, 800, 1,600, 3,200, and 6,400 Hz), and structural imaging data. We first used task-based fMRI to identify frequency-selective cortical regions in the HAC. Six regions of interest (ROIs) were defined based on the responses of 50 participants to the six pure tone stimuli. Then, these ROIs were used as seeds to determine RS-FC between the HAC and other brain regions. The results showed that there was RS-FC between the HAC and brain regions that included the superior temporal gyrus, dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DL-PFC), parietal cortex, occipital lobe, and subcortical structures. Importantly, significant differences in FC were observed among most of the brain regions that showed RS-FC with the HAC. Specifically, there was stronger RS-FC between (1) low-frequency (200 and 400 Hz) regions and brain regions including the premotor cortex, somatosensory/-association cortex, and DL-PFC; (2) intermediate-frequency (800 and 1,600 Hz) regions and brain regions including the anterior/posterior superior temporal sulcus, supramarginal gyrus, and inferior frontal cortex; (3) intermediate/low-frequency regions and vision-related regions; (4) high-frequency (3,200 and 6,400 Hz) regions and the anterior cingulate cortex or left DL-PFC. These findings demonstrate that RS-FC between the HAC and other brain areas is frequency selective.

We aimed to investigate the effect of mild acute psychological stress on attention processing by adopting a consecutive task paradigm. In each trial, a probe stimulus (left or right arrow) was presented immediately after a mental arithmetic task (psychological stressor). Participants were asked to estimate whether the product of a multiplication term was above 10 or not, either with (stress block) or without (control block) time pressure and social-evaluative threat. When the probe was presented, participants were asked to judge the direction of the arrows. Increased subjective stress and negative affect were found for the stress versus control trials. For the probe task, reaction times were faster in the stress block than in the control block. Event-related potentials locked to the arrows revealed that (a) fronto-central N1 was enhanced in the stress block compared to the control block. This finding might indicate that stress amplified processes of early perception and that vigilance and sensory intake were augmented. (b) fronto-central N2 was enhanced in the stress block compared to the control block. This finding might reflect increased effort to control selective attention in completing the probe task. (c) less positive P3 was evoked in the stress block than in the control block. This finding potentially reflects the fact that fewer attentional resources were engaged in processing the probe, or that the activity associated with the process of response evaluation was decreased. In sum, mild acute psychological stress exerts a dissociable effect on the neural subprocesses of attention.

This study investigated whether chronic academic stress could affect the directed forgetting (DF) process. Both the stress group (undergoing preparation for a major academic examination) and the control group performed a DF task. A forgetting cue was presented after a to-be-forgotten (TBF) word, whereas no cue appeared after a to-be-remembered (TBR) item in the study phase. An old/new recognition test was used in the test phase. The results showed that (1) the stress group showed a higher level of self-reported stress, state anxiety, negative affect, and decreased cortisol awakening response (CAR) compared with the control group, suggesting a higher level of stress for the stress group. (2) Both groups showed superior recognition performance of TBR than TBF items, suggesting a DF effect. (3) The stress group showed inferior recognition performance of TBF items and an enhanced DF effect compared with the control group. These results demonstrated that the intentional memory control process might be enhanced under chronic academic stress.

Background: Detecting and responding to target objects in the visual environment is a key factor in goal-directed behavior. Exposure to chronic stress often results in alterations of prefrontal cortex (PFC) function, which may impact PFC-dependent selective attention process. This study aimed to investigate the effect of chronic academic stress on attentional control process. Method: Both the stress group and the control group performed an arrow-based version of the Eriksen Flanker task. Event-related potentials (ERP) were recorded while the participants performed the task. Results: The behavioural results exhibited decreased Flanker RT effect for the stress group compared to the control group, suggesting a reduced interference under stress. The ERP results showed that stress group showed decreased frontal N2 but increased early P3 and late P3/LPC activities compared to the control group. These results suggest reduced conflict monitoring but increased conflict resolution process under stress. Conclusions: The chronic academic stress improves attentional control by reducing the conflict monitoring and enhancing conflict resolution processes.

This study investigated the effect of varying magnetic field intensities (ranging from 0 to 10 mT) on the quality characteristics of dough with 40 % potato pulp substitution (DPP). The results indicated that the DPP fermented with a 4 mT magnetic field exhibited a significant enhancement in the combination of water and substrate, thereby elevating the viscoelastic properties of DPP through reinforcing the stability of gluten network. Meanwhile, DPP treated with a 4 mT magnetic field exhibited the highest amount of disulfide bonds (11.64 µmol SS/g sample). This is accompanied by a prominent cross-linkage structure, as evidenced by SDS-PAGE and CLSM. Notably, the application of a magnetic field substantially augments the dough's capacity to retain gas during fermentation. In addition, the application of magnetic field significantly increased the wet gluten content (20.85 %, P < 0.05) in DPP, which improved tensile properties and an acceptable color profile. The introduction of a magnetic field induces gluten aggregation, which in turn results in heightened particle size distribution and ζ-potential values. In conclusion, this study emphasize the potential of magnetic field technology as a viable method to enhance the overall quality attributes of dough enriched with potato pulp substitution.
