RESUMEN
BACKGROUND : Garuga Roxb. is a genus endemic to southwest China and other tropical regions in Southeast Asia facing risk of extinction due to the loss of tropical forests and changes in land use. Conducting a genome survey of G. forrestii contribute to a deeper understanding and conservation of the genus. RESULTS: This study utilized genome survey of G. forrestii generated approximately 54.56 GB of sequence data, with approximately 112 × coverage. K-mer analysis indicated a genome size of approximately 0.48 GB, smaller than 0.52GB estimated by flow cytometry. The heterozygosity is of about 0.54%, and a repeat rate of around 51.54%. All the shotgun data were assembled into 339,729 scaffolds, with an N50 of 17,344 bp. The average content of guanine and cytosine was approximately 35.16%. A total of 330,999 SSRs were detected, with mononucleotide repeats being the most abundant at 70.16%, followed by dinucleotide repeats at 20.40%. We conducted a preliminary ploidy assessment using Smudgeplot and observed a clear bimodal distribution in G. forrestii at 1/2 relative coverage depth and total coverage depth (2n), suggesting a potential diploid genome structure. A pseudo chromosome of G. forrestii and a gemone of Boswellia sacra were used as reference genome to perform a primer population resequencing analysis within three Garuga species. Principal component analysis (PCA) indicated three distinct groups, but genome wide phylogenetics represented conflicting both between the dataset of different reference genomes and between maternal and nuclear genome. CONCLUSION: In summary, the genome of G. forrestii is small, and the phylogenetic relationships within the Garuga genus are complex. The genetic data presented in this study holds significant value for comprehensive whole-genome analyses, the evaluation of population genetic diversity, investigations into adaptive evolution, the advancement of artificial breeding efforts, and the support of species conservation and restoration initiatives. Ultimately, this research contributes to reinforcing the conservation and management of natural ecosystems, promoting biodiversity conservation, and advancing sustainable development.

Three Laminaria japonica polysaccharides (LJPs) extracted via water extraction (LJP-W), acid extraction (LJP-A), and enzymatic extraction (LJP-E) were used as raw materials to be cross-linked with chitosan and polyvinyl alcohol to prepare hydrogels. Compared with conventional hydrogel systems, all three types of LJP-based polysaccharide hydrogels exhibited better swelling properties (14 times their original weight) and the absorption ability of simulated body fluid (first 2 h: 6-10%). They also demonstrated better rigidity and mechanical strength. Young's modulus of LJP-E was 4 times that of the blank. In terms of hemostatic properties, all three polysaccharide hydrogels did not show significant cytotoxic and hemolytic properties. The enzyme- and acid-extracted hydrogels (LJP-Gel-A and LJP-Gel-E) demonstrated better whole-blood coagulant ability compared with the water-extracted hydrogel (LJP-Gel-W), as evidenced by the whole blood coagulation index being half that of LJP-Gel-W. Additionally, the lactate dehydrogenase viabilities of LJP-Gel-A and LJP-Gel-E were significantly higher, at about four and three times those of water extraction, respectively. The above results suggested that LJP-Gel-A and LJP-Gel-E exhibited better blood coagulation capabilities than LJP-Gel-W, due to their enhanced platelet enrichment and adhesion properties. Consequently, these hydrogels are more conducive to promoting coagulation and have good potential for wound hemostasis.

BACKGROUND: This retrospective study aimed to determine the epidemiological features of deaths caused by unintentional suffocation among infants in China. METHODS: The data used in this study were obtained from China's Under 5 Child Mortality Surveillance System (U5CMSS) from October 1, 2015, to September 30, 2016. A total of 377 children under 1 year of age who died from unintentional suffocation were included in the survey. Primary caregivers were interviewed individually using the Unintentional Suffocation Mortality among Children under 5 Questionnaire. EpiData was used to establish the database, and the results were analysed using SPSS 22.0. RESULTS: Most (85.9%) unintentional infant suffocations occurred in rural areas, and 67.5% occurred in infants 0 to 3 months old. Among the primary caregivers of the infants, most (82.7%) had a junior middle school education or below, and 83.1% of them lacked unintentional suffocation first aid skills. Of the 377 unintentional suffocated-infant deaths, the causes of death were accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed (ASSB) (193, 51.2%), inhalation suffocation (154, 40.8%), other unintentional suffocation (6, 1.6%), and unknown (24, 6.4%). Among the infant deaths due to ASSB, overlaying (88.6%) was the most frequently reported circumstance. A total of 93.8% of cases reported occurred during co-sleeping/bed sharing with parents, and in 72.8% of the cases, the infants were covered with the same quilt as their parents. In our study, most inhalation suffocation deaths (88.3%) involved liquid food (such as breast milk and formula milk). A total of 80.5% of infant deaths reportedly occurred after eating; in 28.2% of those cases, the infants were held upright and patted by their caregivers, and 57.2% of them were laid down to sleep immediately after eating. CONCLUSIONS: To reduce the occurrence of unintentional suffocation, local government should strengthen knowledge and awareness of unintentional suffocation prevention and safety among parents and caregivers. Additionally, health care providers should educate parents and caregivers about safety issues of unintentional suffocation, and relevant policies should be introduced to provide environments and activities that reduce the risk of suffocation, such as promoting the Safe to Sleep Campaign. It is important to enhance the focus on infant unintentional suffocation as a health issue.

A continuous-wave mid-infrared radiation from difference frequency generation by mixing a continuous-wave Ti: sapphire laser and a continuous-wave YAG laser in a 15 mm long BaGa4Se7 crystal is demonstrated for the first time. The tunable range from 3.15 to 7.92 µm was achieved by rotating the crystal to fulfill the type I phase-matching condition. A maximum DFG power of 1.41 µW was obtained at 5 µm. Meanwhile the experimental DFG power conversion efficiency was 20.2 µW/W2, with a length-normalized slope efficiency of 15.5 µW/cmW2. The conversion efficiency decreases rapidly from 50 µW/cmW2 at 3.15 µm to 1 µW/cmW2 at 7.92 µm. The wavelength acceptance bandwidth and the angular acceptance bandwidth were measured to be 16.4 cm-1 and 44' for DFG at 5.1 µm, respectively.
RESUMEN
BACKGROUND: Asthma and diabetes are prevalent chronic diseases affecting a significant population globally. Research has suggested that metformin, a commonly used medication for diabetes management, may also have beneficial effects in enhancing asthma outcomes. Considering the comorbidity of asthma and diabetes, a comprehensive analysis was performed to investigate the efficacy of metformin in reducing adverse outcomes of asthma patients with diabetes. METHODS: To gather relevant data, we conducted a systematic search of the PubMed, Embase, and CENTRAL databases for observational studies published prior to September 2023. We specifically looked for studies involving individuals diagnosed with both asthma and diabetes, comparing the incidence and severity of asthma exacerbations in metformin users versus nonusers. The inclusion criteria encompassed studies that recruited participants aged 18 years and older. The primary outcome of interest was the risk of newly developing asthma, while secondary outcomes included the adjusted risk of asthma-induced exacerbations, emergency room visits, and hospitalizations. All data analyses and visualizations were performed using the R programming language. RESULTS: We identified and included 7 studies involving a total of 1,176,398 patients in our analysis. The pooled effect size indicated a potential reduction in the incidence of newly developed asthma among patients with type 2 diabetes who used metformin, although this finding did not reach statistical significance. Similar conclusions have also been observed in other outcomes, such as exacerbation, asthma-related emergency department visits, risk of systemic corticosteroid prescription. The only positive outcome is that the use of metformin can reduce the chance of patients being hospitalized due to asthma. CONCLUSION: In most outcome indicators, it cannot be assumed that the use of metformin can reduce asthma-related adverse events. However, the conclusion is not so certain, and longer observation and more evidence are still required. Metformin still shows some potential in the intervention of respiratory diseases.

Jingdong 120-meter radio telescope (JRT) is poised to become the world's largest single-aperture fully steerable medium-low frequency radio telescope. However, like other large-aperture radio telescopes, the JRT is vulnerable to wind loads, which can cause structural deformation and pointing errors. Addressing this challenge requires the ability to predict dynamic winds in real-time. This study developed a wind pressure preprocessing and prediction model using sensor data collected from the Kunming 40-meter radio telescope (KRT), enabling real-time prediction of wind pressure on the telescope. The model employs adaptive noise and Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) techniques to eliminate random noise from the original wind pressure data. Subsequently, wind pressure predictions are made using a Bidirectional Long Short-term Memory (BiLSTM) model. By conducting predictions under various stabilization conditions and conducting a thorough analysis of measurement data from five sensors, the study has achieved impressive results in predicting wind pressure on the KRT reflector surface. The proposed model demonstrates the lowest MAE, RMSE, and MAPE, while achieving the highest R 2 across various data sets. Where the average R 2 of the proposed model is 0.9392 at 45° pitch angle attitude and the RMSE, MAE and MAPE values are 1.4923, 1.2377 and 1.82% respectively. This model helps wind load monitoring of real-time wind pressure monitoring of the telescope surface, to study the effects of wind load on pointing accuracy. By adjusting the control parameters to reduce wind load interference, to ensure the high-precision work of a large radio telescope, such as JRT.
RESUMEN
Background: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a leading cause of visual impairment and blindness in preterm infants. Objective: This study sought to investigate the association between red blood cell (RBC) transfusion and ROP in very preterm infants (VPIs) to inform clinical strategies for ROP prevention and treatment. Methods: We designed a prospective multicenter cohort study that included VPIs and follow-up data from January 2017 to December 2022 at 3 neonatal clinical medicine centers. They were categorized into a transfusion group (infants who received an RBC transfusion within 4 wk) and a nontransfusion group. The relationship between RBC transfusion and ROP incidence was assessed using binary logistic regression, with subgroup analyses based on gestational age, birth weight, sex, and sepsis status. Inverse probability of treatment weighting and propensity score matching were applied to account for all potential confounding factors that could affect ROP development, followed by sensitivity analysis. Results: The study included 832 VPIs, including 327 in the nontransfusion group and 505 in the transfusion group. The transfusion group had a lower average birth weight and gestational age and a greater incidence of ROP, ≥stage 2 ROP, and severe ROP. Logistic regression analysis revealed that the transfusion group had a significantly greater risk of ROP (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.70, 95% CI 1.14-2.53, P=.009) and ≥stage 2 ROP (aOR 1.68, 95% CI 1.02-2.78, P=.04) but not severe ROP (aOR 1.75, 95% CI 0.61-5.02, P=.30). The trend analysis also revealed an increased risk of ROP with an increasing number of transfusions and a larger volume of blood transfused (P for trend<.001). Subgroup analyses confirmed a consistent trend, with the transfusion group at a higher risk for ROP across all subgroups. Inverse probability of treatment weighting and propensity score matching analyses supported the initial findings. Conclusions: For VPIs, RBC transfusion significantly increases the risk of ROP, and the risk increases with an increasing number of transfusions and volume of blood transfused.
RESUMEN
Objective: To investigate the current situation of child safety seat use and children's cognition of safe riding in Leshan City, and to provide a basis for the promotion and application of child safety seats in Leshan City. Methods: From November 2021 to February 2022, a total of 500 car-owning families who visited or were hospitalized in the department of pediatrics of our hospital were surveyed by self-filling questionnaire method. Through the investigation of personal situation, family situation, travel habits, use of child safety seat, cognition of safe riding, etc., the influencing factors of possession and use of child safety seat and cognition were analyzed. Results: The ownership rate of car seats was 57.8%, the use rate was 47.6%, and the always use rate was 18.8% among all families with children surveyed. There were no statistically significant differences in the use rate and always use rate of child safety seats among different genders of children, parents' education background, and car ownership price. The use rate and constant use rate of child safety seats in urban households were significantly higher than those in rural areas. When the main driver was the mother, the use rate of child safety seats was higher, and the difference was statistically significant. From the perspective of cognition, the use rate and constant use rate of the child safety seat of parents with correct cognition were 64.5% and 25.7% respectively, while the use rate and constant use rate of the child safety seat of parents with incorrect cognition were only 11.1% and 4.3%, which were significantly lower than those with correct cognition, and the difference was statistically significant. In terms of cognition, 10.4% of parents think it is safe for children to sit in the back seat with adults in their arms, and 9.0% of family members think it is safe for children to sit in the back seat with seat belts alone. Conclusions: At present, the ownership rate, utilization rate, and parents' correct cognition of child safety seats in Leshan City are all at a low level, and there is a lack of regional legal guidance, so the safety situation of children in cars is worrying. To effectively improve the use of child safety seats, the promotion of child safety seats should be promoted from three aspects: improving parents' cognition, forming good traffic habits, and legal guidance.
RESUMEN
Ranunculus yunnanensis Franch is endemic in Yunnan and Sichuan Provinces, southwestern China. Here, we report the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of R. yunnanensis. The chloroplast genome is 156,050 bp in length, with 111 encoded genes, including 78 protein-coding genes, 29 tRNA genes, and four rRNA genes. Maximum-likelihood phylogenetic reconstruction using the existing data of Ranunculus shows that R. yunnanensis is revealed at the basal position of the marsh buttercup clade. This result has improved a better understanding of the internal relationship of the Ranunculus.

RESUMEN
OBJECTIVE: We investigated physical deviation and precocious puberty among school-aged children in Leshan City, to provide a theoretical basis for the management of precocious puberty in children. METHODS: We selected 12 primary schools of Leshan City using a cluster random sampling method and conducted physical examinations among healthy students aged 4 12 years. A total of 11,000 students were recruited (5502 boys and 5498 girls). We measured body mass index (BMI), and participants were tested for precocious puberty according to the Tanner stages and standard maps. Nutritional status was also evaluated. RESULTS: Obese and overweight children accounted for a high proportion of participants; the prevalence of underweight was the lowest. The prevalence of obesity among boys was higher than that in girls. Precocious puberty was mainly observed in girls, particularly those age 7 years old. The prevalence of precocious puberty among overweight and obese children was higher than that in children with normal weight. CONCLUSION: We identified a significant sex difference in precocious puberty among children in Leshan City. Overweight and obesity may be associated with precocious puberty.

In the present paper, based on the exponential attenuation of atmospheric aerosol concentration with height, so using continuous spectrum sun-photometer, forward scatter visibility sensor and hygrothermograph, the authors measured the atmosphere column optical characteristic and plane spectral extinction coefficient on earth on the base of two experiments at some edge of ocean at the same time, respectively, set up the calculative method of multi-wavelength spectral aerosol scale height. Firstly, the authors obtained atmospheric horizontal extinction coefficient with forward scattering visibility sensor, which subtracted molecular extinction coefficient, and could get aerosol extinction coefficient near ground; Then, selecting sea salt model, using OPAC software, the authors also could calculate the aerosol extinction coefficient under different humidity (0%, 50%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 95%, 98% and 99%) and different wavelength (400, 450, 500, 550, 600, 650, 700 and 750 nm), the aerosol extinction coefficient was detected by visibility sensor, using interpolation method, respectively; Finally, using the data of atmospheric columniation optical thickness detected by continuous spectral sun-photometer and subtracted molecular optical thickness corresponding wavelengths were accounted out by Modtran 4. 0. The authors obtained the characteristic of spectral aerosol scale height of visible light (wavelength is 400, 440, 532, 550 and 690 nm): with wavelength increments, and spectral aerosol scale height was found to decline neither in inland nor in inshore in China; Spectral aerosol scale height in winter is higher than in summer in southeast inshore; but spectral aerosol scale height in winter is smaller in summer than in inland.
