RESUMEN

In an effort to identify novel drugs targeting fusion-oncogene-induced acute myeloid leukemia (AML), we performed high-resolution proteomic analysis. In AML1-ETO (AE)-driven AML, we uncovered a deregulation of phospholipase C (PLC) signaling. We identified PLCgamma 1 (PLCG1) as a specific target of the AE fusion protein that is induced after AE binding to intergenic regulatory DNA elements. Genetic inactivation of PLCG1 in murine and human AML inhibited AML1-ETO dependent self-renewal programs, leukemic proliferation, and leukemia maintenance in vivo. In contrast, PLCG1 was dispensable for normal hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell function. These findings are extended to and confirmed by pharmacologic perturbation of Ca++-signaling in AML1-ETO AML cells, indicating that the PLCG1 pathway poses an important therapeutic target for AML1-ETO+ leukemic stem cells.

RESUMEN

The fusion gene MLL/AF4 defines a high-risk subtype of pro-B acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Relapse can be associated with a lineage switch from acute lymphoblastic to acute myeloid leukemia, resulting in poor clinical outcomes caused by resistance to chemotherapies and immunotherapies. In this study, the myeloid relapses shared oncogene fusion breakpoints with their matched lymphoid presentations and originated from various differentiation stages from immature progenitors through to committed B-cell precursors. Lineage switching is linked to substantial changes in chromatin accessibility and rewiring of transcriptional programs, including alternative splicing. These findings indicate that the execution and maintenance of lymphoid lineage differentiation is impaired. The relapsed myeloid phenotype is recurrently associated with the altered expression, splicing, or mutation of chromatin modifiers, including CHD4 coding for the ATPase/helicase of the nucleosome remodelling and deacetylation complex. Perturbation of CHD4 alone or in combination with other mutated epigenetic modifiers induces myeloid gene expression in MLL/AF4+ cell models, indicating that lineage switching in MLL/AF4 leukemia is driven and maintained by disrupted epigenetic regulation.

INTRODUCTION: There is no consensus regarding perioperative hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for gender-affirming surgery (GAS). Common concerns for continuing perioperative HRT included risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or hematoma. However, discontinuing HRT is not risk free and may cause mood swing or increased anxiety. Our study aimed to investigate current patterns of HRT before GAS worldwide. METHODS: The first stage of Delphi technique was implemented by sending a 27-item survey to all surgeons (total n = 150; 94 plastic surgeon, 35 urologist, and 21 gynecologists) of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health who perform GAS. Survey themes included the hormone type, duration, and usage of DVT prophylaxis. RESULTS: Overall survey response rate was 34% (total n = 51; 8 urologists, 35 plastic surgeons, and 8 gynecologists). The majority of surgeons are US-based (n = 39, 76%). The most common HRTs are in injection form (n = 28, 55%). The majority of surgeons do not stop HRT before GAS and do provide DVT prophylaxis to all patients <1 week after GAS. The most common procedure that surgeons discontinue HRT is feminizing bottom surgery (43%). For surgeons who discontinue HRT before GAS, there is a wide variation on discontinuation schedule. CONCLUSIONS: There is considerable variation in perioperative HRT patterns for GAS. Further research is needed to develop a data-driven consensus guideline to provide high quality of care for transgender and nonbinary patients.

The experiments reported in this research paper aimed to evaluate the physico-chemical and sensory characteristics, microbial quality and antioxidant potential of goat's milk paneer during storage (0-12 d, 4 ± 1°C). The juices from five different citrus fruits were used as coagulant (treatments) to make goat's milk paneer. The pH of all paneer samples decreased during storage whereas titratable acidity increased. Ash (%) fat (%) and protein (%) of paneer increased slightly during storage, whereas sensory perception decreased. The juices from all the citrus fruit varieties showed high contents of total phenolics and total flavonoids which ultimately influenced ferric reducing antioxidant power, total antioxidant capacity and radical scavenging activities. As the contents of different juices were also retained in the paneer matrix, so paneer coagulated with citrus juices also showed encouraging results in terms of total phenolic and flavonoid contents, ferric reducing antioxidant power and radical scavenging activities. Amongst all the paneers, the most promising was that coagulated by kinnow juice. In addition, the whey obtained from paneer coagulated by citrus juices also showed appreciable quantities of total phenolic and flavonoid contents, thereby beneficially influencing ferric reducing antioxidant power andradical scavenging activities. It is concluded that citrus juices improve the sensorial quality and antioxidant potential of goat's milk paneer and its whey.

BACKGROUND: One of the recognized issues faced by cancer survivors is increasing weight. Weight gain has been associated with an increased death rate in cancer survivors. Research on weight gain among breast cancer survivors (BCS) is scarce in Nigeria. AIM: To assess the weight changes and its associated factors in breast cancer survivors (BCS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 98 breast cancer survivors attending the Radiation Oncology clinic were recruited. Sociodemographic variables, treatment history, weight at presentation, and present weight were obtained. Patients were then categorized into three groups: weight gain (>5% increase), stable weight (-5 to 5% change), or weight loss (>5% decrease). RESULT: The present mean weight and BMI were significantly higher than at presentation (75.14±17.59 kg vs 76.88±17.42 kg, p=< 0.0001) and (28.74 ± 6.30 vs 29.42 ±6.20, < 0.0001) respectively. Only 28 (29.6%) gained weight, 65 (66.3%) maintained stable weight while 5 (5.1%) lost weight. On univariate analysis, older age, living with partners, presence of comorbidity, year of last chemotherapy less than one year, and hormonal therapy use were associated with weight gain. Multivariate analysis revealed that the presence of comorbidities, patients receiving the last chemotherapy less than a year from the time of recruitment, and hormonal therapy were independently associated with weight gain. CONCLUSION: About a quarter of BCS gained weight. Older age, presence of comorbidity, year of last chemotherapy less than one year, and hormonal therapy use were associated with weight gain. The weight of cancer survivors should be monitored regularly during follow-up visits.


CONTEXTE: L'une des problématiques reconnues rencontrées par les survivantes du cancer est la prise de poids croissante. La prise de poids a été associée à un taux de mortalité accru chez les survivantes du cancer. La recherche sur la prise de poids parmi les survivantes du cancer du sein (SCS) est rare au Nigeria. OBJECTIF: Évaluer les changements de poids et leurs facteurs associés chez les survivantes du cancer du sein (SCS). MATÉRIAUX ET MÉTHODES: Au total, 98 survivantes du cancer du sein fréquentant la clinique d'oncologie radiationnelle ont été recrutées. Les variables sociodémographiques, l'historique des traitements, le poids à la présentation et le poids actuel ont été obtenus. Les patients ont ensuite été répartis en trois groupes : prise de poids (augmentation >5 %), poids stable (changement de -5 à 5 %) ou perte de poids (diminution >5 %). RÉSULTAT: La moyenne actuelle du poids et de l'IMC étaient significativement plus élevés qu'à la présentation (75,14 ± 17,59 kg contre 76,88 ± 17,42 kg, p < 0,0001) et (28,74 ± 6,30 contre 29,42 ± 6,20, p < 0,0001) respectivement. Seuls 28 (29,57%) ont pris du poids, 65 (66,3%) ont maintenu un poids stable tandis que 5 (5,1%) ont perdu du poids. À l'analyse univariée, l'âge plus avancé, la cohabitation avec un partenaire, la présence de comorbidité, l'année de la dernière chimiothérapie de moins d'un an et l'utilisation de thérapie hormonale étaient associées à une prise de poids. L'analyse multivariée a révélé que la présence de comorbidités, les patientes ayant reçu la dernière chimiothérapie moins d'un an avant le recrutement et la thérapie hormonale étaient indépendamment associées à une prise de poids. CONCLUSION: Environ un quart des survivantes du cancer du sein ont pris du poids. Le poids supplémentaire était associé à un âge plus avancé, à la présence de comorbidités, à la réception de la dernière chimiothérapie moins d'un an auparavant et à l'utilisation d'une thérapie hormonale. Il est donc recommandé de surveiller régulièrement le poids des survivantes du cancer lors des visites de suivi. Cela permettrait d'identifier les changements de poids précocement et de mettre en place des interventions appropriées pour prévenir une prise de poids excessive et ses conséquences néfastes sur la santé des survivantes du cancer. Kombucha is a fermented, acidic beverage that dates back thousands of years as a remedy for various health problems in East Asia. Due to its health benefits, kombucha has gained popularity and attracted the attention of both consumers and researchers. The health benefits of kombucha are predominantly attributed to its bioactive compounds that have antioxidant, antimicrobial, probiotic, and other positive effects owing to fermentation. Many factors such as the type of the substrate used, the symbiotic culture of the bacterial yeast composition, and fermentation conditions influence the extent of these properties. This review focuses on recent developments regarding the bioactive constituents of kombucha and its potential health benefits (antimicrobial, antioxidant, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective effects) as well as its impact on multiple sclerosis, nephrotoxicity, gastric ulceration and gut microbiota. Additionally, the composition of kombucha, alternative uses of its biofilm, and potential toxicity are also discussed. Kombucha is a healthy and safe beverage with multiple health benefits that are primarily related to the presence of bacteria, yeasts, and other bioactive constituents. Moreover, kombucha has been suggested as a potential source of probiotics and eco-friendly materials (kombucha-derived bacterial cellulose) for several industries including food and textile.

INTRODUCTION: Limited literatures used validated instruments to evaluate patient-reported outcomes (PROs) for transgender and gender-diverse population undergoing gender-affirming surgeries (GASs). This study aimed to evaluate PROs using a newly validated psychometric instrument, Vanderbilt Mini Patient-Reported Outcome Measures-Gender (VMP-G). METHODS: Vanderbilt Mini Patient-Reported Outcome Measures-Gender assesses 4 scales: quality of life, self-concept, satisfaction, and gender dysphoria. Scores range from 20 to 100, with higher scores representing superior PROs. Descriptive analysis was performed, and outcomes were compared in different races/ethnicities, gender identities, age, types of GAS, and time. Patients seeking GAS at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from October 11, 2021, to October 11, 2022, were included. Data were collected anonymously via the Research Electronic Data Capture survey tool at preoperative or postoperative clinic visits. RESULTS: A total of 207 patients completed VMP-G. Average age was 31.8 years (SD, ±11.5 years). Fifty-three percent of patients were postoperative GAS. In bivariate and linear regression analyses, postoperative patients scored higher on all scales compared with preoperative patients ( P < 0.001). After adjustment, postoperative patients scored 12.5 higher on VMP-G compared with preoperative patients ( P < 0.01). In subset analyses, GAS was associated with improved PROs in White, non-White, binary, and nonbinary and patients younger than 21 years ( P < 0.05). After GAS, patients younger than 21 years reported similar outcomes, compared with patients older than 21 years ( P > 0.05). No PROs differences were reported between patients who underwent top versus bottom surgery ( P = 0.2). Postoperative patients reported low rates of regret (2.8%). Scores on the VMP-G were sustained even 1 year after GAS. Each month after GAS was associated with a score improvement of 0.02 in the gender dysphoria domain after adjusting for patient demographics ( P = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS: Using a validated GAS-specific measure, we found that surgery sustainably improves patients' self-reported outcomes including gender dysphoria.

The problem of resonance energy transfer between a pair of chiral molecules mediated by two electrically polarizable bridging particles is solved using molecular quantum electrodynamics theory. In this framework, a single virtual photon propagates between any two-coupled entities and is responsible for the conveyance of excitation energy from the emitter to the absorber. Electric dipole and quadrupole, and magnetic dipole couplings linear in the Maxwell fields are employed for donor and acceptor, while each mediator scatters two virtual photons and responds quadratically to the electric displacement field via its electric dipole polarizability. This enables fourth-order diagrammatic perturbation theory to be used to compute the probability amplitude for the process. Individual multipole moment contributions to the Fermi golden rule rate are then extracted for oriented and isotropic systems. Discriminatory transfer rates arise when either the donor or the acceptor are electric-magnetic dipole and the other has a pure multipole moment, or when both are chiral, with mixed electric dipole-quadrupole contributions vanishing in the fluid phase. The bridge-mediated transfer rate is found to be a maximum for a collinear geometry. Moreover, a multi-level model of the mediator is necessary for energy migration. Asymptotically limiting rates for arbitrary and collinear geometries are also obtained for one center purely electric dipolar and the other purely quadrupolar, or both donor and absorber purely quadrupolar. Understanding is gained of radiationless and radiative transfer mechanisms between chiral moieties in a dielectric medium.

A total of 300 quail eggs were collected randomly from different markets in Cairo and Giza Governorates. Five eggs were represented as one egg sample. Shell and content of each egg were examined for their microbiological contents, sensory evaluation and study of Escherichia coli O157 survival in artificially contaminated eggs. Moreover, qualitative detection of antimicrobial residues by seven plates microbiologically bioassay and confirmed by validated high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) methods for positively reacted antimicrobials in raw and boiled samples. There was a significant difference (P < 0·05) between the grading score of eggs after the boiling at 2-, 4-, 5- and 7-min. Based on the survival results, the refrigeration storage and boiling for 5 min of quail eggs was confirmed that such eggs are without E. coli O157. After the boil, the concentrations of oxytetracycline (OTC) and 4-Epi-OTC residues were significantly reduced, and there was no effect on the concentration of sulphadimidine (SDD), amoxicillin (AMO) and Diketo residues. Samples that exceeded the maximum residual limits (MRLs) were 17·0%, 12·0%, 10·0%, 16·0% and 14·0% for SDD, OTC, 4-Epi-OTC, AMO and Diketo, respectively. After boiling, no significant change was noted for SDD, AMO and Diketo, but all OTC and 4-Epi-OTC were completely below MRLs. Therefore, SDD and AMO with their metabolite (Diketo) are heat-stable antimicrobial residues with multiple human health hazards.

In this study, we developed and optimized a growth medium using various nitrogen sources for the cultivation of Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus, a probiotic and essential dairy starter culture. The composition of de Man, Rogosa, and Sharpe (MRS) culture medium was modified, and the nitrogen content was replaced by alternative nitrogen sources X-Seed Nucleo Max, X-Seed KAT, and X-Seed Carbo Max (Ohly GmbH) in various blends of 5 and 10 g/L. Results showed that bacterial growth was significantly higher when the nitrogen source blend of 10 g/L of KAT and 10 g/L of Carbo Max [KCMax (10/10)] was used. The optical densities of the Lb. bulgaricus strains were significantly higher in the KCMax (10/10) medium than in the MRS medium. There was no significance in bacterial counts for both the MRS and the KCMax (10/10) medium, and all bacterial counts were estimated at 8 log cfu/mL. The buffering capacity of the KCMax (10/10) medium was also tested and supplemented with l-histidine and was significantly higher than that of the MRS control medium. KCMax (10/10) also supported the freeze-stability and viability of the Lb.bulgaricus cells during freezing and freeze-drying operations. Our results suggest that the alternative nitrogen sources X-Seed Nucleo Max, X-Seed KAT and X-Seed Carbo Max can substantially support the growth of lactic acid bacteria as demonstrated with Lb. bulgaricus. These alternative nitrogen sources could thus be recommended for lactic acid bacteria fermentation and for the cultivation of dairy starter cultures.

Greek yogurt is one of the fastest growing products in the dairy industry. It is also known as strained yogurt, which is obtained after draining the whey. As a result of the draining process, Greek yogurt has higher total solids and lower lactose than regular yogurt. Since it is a concentrated yogurt, its sensory characteristics are different from regular yogurt. However, there is little information about factors influencing the quality of Greek yogurt and sensory evaluation techniques applied to Greek yogurt. This review aims to describe the effects of ingredients, starter cultures, processing techniques and other parameters on quality characteristics and sensory properties of Greek yogurt. In addition, advantages and limitations of novel sensory evaluation techniques applied to Greek yogurt products are discussed. In particular, we take a look at advanced techniques such as the electronic nose and electronic tongue and the benefits of these techniques with regard to Greek yogurt. This review should help the Greek yogurt industry to improve its current products and develop innovative products based on appropriate food evaluation techniques.

Saffron is a valued herb, obtained from the stigmas of the C. sativus Linn (Iridaceae), with therapeutic effects. It has been described in pharmacopoeias to be variously acting, including as an anti-depressant, anti-carcinogen, and stimulant agent. The therapeutic effects of saffron are harbored in its bioactive molecules, notably crocins, the subject of this paper. Crocins have been demonstrated to act as a monoamine oxidase type A and B inhibitor. Furthermore, saffron petal extracts have experimentally been shown to impact contractile response in electrical field stimulation. Other research suggests that saffron also inhibits the reuptake of monoamines, exhibits N-methyl-d-aspartate antagonism, and improves brain-derived neurotrophic factor signaling. A host of experimental studies found saffron/crocin to be similarly effective as fluoxetine and imipramine in the treatment of depression disorders. Saffron and crocins propose a natural solution to combat depressive disorders. However, some hurdles, such as stability and delivery, need to be overcome.

Relay of resonant excitation energy between two chiral molecules by an inert third particle is studied using molecular quantum electrodynamics theory. A single virtual photon propagates between each interacting pair. Fourth-order diagrammatic time-dependent perturbation theory is employed to compute the matrix element. Rate terms dependent upon the chirality of the donor and acceptor species are extracted using the Fermi golden rule. Interestingly, the mediated rate is discriminatory. For freely tumbling particles it exhibits an inverse-square dependence on each interparticle separation distance, indicating a purely radiative exchange mechanism. Furthermore, the isotropic rate is found to be a maximum for a collinear geometry and vanishes when the angle between the donor, mediator, and acceptor is 90°. The indirect rate is compared with direct transfer between two chiral molecules. Insight is gained into discriminatory migration of energy in a dielectric medium.

The problem of resonant energy transfer (RET) between an electric dipole donor, D, and an electric dipole acceptor, A, mediated by a passive, chiral third-body, T, is considered within the framework of molecular quantum electrodynamics theory. To account for the optical activity of the mediator, magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole coupling terms are included in addition to the leading electric dipole interaction term. Fourth-order diagrammatic time-dependent perturbation theory is used to obtain the matrix element. It is found that the Fermi golden rule rate depends on pure multipole moment polarizabilities and susceptibilities of T, as well as on various mixed electric and magnetic multipole moment response functions. The handedness of T manifests through mixed electric-magnetic dipole and mixed electric dipole-quadrupole polarizabilities, which affect the rate and, respectively, require the use of fourth-rank and sixth-rank Cartesian tensor averages over T, yielding non-vanishing isotropic rate formulae applicable to a chiral fluid medium. Terms of a similar order of magnitude proportional to the product of electric dipole polarizability and either magnetic dipole susceptibility or electric quadrupole polarizability of T are also computed for oriented and freely tumbling molecules. Migration rates dependent upon the product of the pure electric dipole or magnetic dipole polarizability with the mixed electric-magnetic or electric dipole-quadrupole analogs, which require fourth- and fifth-rank Cartesian tensor averaging, vanish for randomly oriented systems. Asymptotically limiting rate expressions are also evaluated. Insight is gained into RET occurring in complex media.

RESUMEN

The General Medical Council (GMC) plans to introduce a national Medical Licensing Assessment (MLA) in 2024 for all UK medical students as part of their primary medical qualification, with dermatology specified in its assessment blueprint. We present an Update to the British Association of Dermatologists' Undergraduate Curriculum, aligned both to the MLA Content Map and the GMC Outcomes for Graduates 2018.

RESUMEN

This review provides an overview of the composition, structure, and biological activities of milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) compounds with focus on the future application of this compound as a food ingredient. MFGM is a particular component of mammalian milks and is comprised of a tri-layer of polar lipids, glycolipids and proteins. In recent years, MFGM has been extensively studied for the purpose of enhancing the efficacy of infant nutrition formula. For example, infant formulas supplemented with bovine MFGM have shown promising results with regard to neurodevelopment and defense against infections. Components of MFGM have been shown to present several health benefits as the proteins of the membrane have shown antiviral activity and a reduction in the incidence of diarrhea. Moreover, the presence of sphingomyelin, a phospholipid, implies beneficial effects on human health such as enhanced neuronal development in infants and the protection of neonates from bacterial infections. The development of a lipid that is similar to human milk fat would represent a significant advance for the infant formula industry and would offer high technology formulas for those infants that depend on infant formula. The complexity of the structure of MFGM and its nutritional and technological properties is critically examined in this review with a focus on issues relevant to the dairy industry.

RESUMEN

The aim of this review was to present various topics related to lactose intolerance with special attention given to the role of fermented foods and probiotics in alleviating gastrointestinal symptoms. Lactose intolerance is a common digestive problem in which the human body is unable to digest lactose, known as milk sugar. Lactose intolerance can either be hereditary or a consequence of intestinal diseases. Recent work has demonstrated that fermented dairy products and probiotics can modify the metabolic activities of colonic microbiota and may alleviate the symptoms of lactose intolerance. We suggest that, lactose free dairy products could be recommended as alternatives for the alleviation of lactose intolerance and for the promotion of human health and wellness.

Borage flower (Echium amoenum), an annual herb native to the Mediterranean region, is an excellent source of anthocyanins and is widely used in various forms due to its biological activities. In the present study, a choline chloride and glycerol (CHGLY)-based natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES) was applied in order to extract the anthocyanins from borage flowers. The traditional solvents, including water, methanol, and ethanol, were used to evaluate the efficiency of CHGLY. The results showed that CHGLY was highly efficient compared to the traditional solvents, providing the highest amounts of the total anthocyanin content (TAC), total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), individual anthocyanins, and antioxidant activity (DPPH radical scavenging (DPPH) and ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays). The most dominant anthocyanin found in studied borage was cyanidin-3-glucoside, followed by cyanin chloride, cyanidin-3-rutinoside, and pelargonidin-3-glucoside. The bioavailability % was 71.86 ± 0.47%, 77.29 ± 0.57%, 80.22 ± 0.65%, and 90.95 ± 1.01% for cyanidin-3-glucoside, cyanidin-3-rutinoside, by pelargonidin-3-glucoside and cyanin chloride, respectively. However, cyanidin-3-glucoside was the anthocyanin compound showing the highest stability (99.11 ± 1.66%) in the gastrointestinal environment. These results suggested that choline chloride and glycerol-based NADES is not only an efficient, eco-friendly solvent for the extraction of anthocyanins but can also be used to increase the bioavailability of anthocyanins.

The effects of immunomodulatory activity of two types of carboxymethyl pachymaran (CMP-1 and CMP-2) on cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced mice were investigated. Both CMP-1 and CMP-2 were found to restore the splenomegaly and alleviate the spleen lesions and the mRNA expressions of TLR4, MyD88, p65 and NF-κB in spleen were also increased. CMP-1 and CMP-2 could enhance the immunity by increasing the levels of TNF-α, IL-2, IL-6, IFN-γ, Ig-A and Ig-G in serum. In addition, CMP-1 could increase the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes and reduce the relative richness of Firmicutes at the phylum level. CMP-1 and CMP-2 could reduce the relative abundance Erysipelatoclostridum at the genus level. CMP-1 and CMP-2 might enhance the immune function of immunosuppression mice by regulating the gene expression in the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway and changing the composition and abundance of the intestinal microbiota. The results suggested that CMP-1 and CMP-2 would be as potential immunomodulatory agents in functional foods.

We investigated the structural characteristics and antioxidant activities of two types of neutral polysaccharides and two types of acidic polysaccharides from Stropharia rugosoannulata under different drying methods. Fresh S. rugosoannulata were processed with freeze-vacuum drying (FVD) and hot-air drying (HAD). Polysaccharides from the dried S. rugosoannulata (SRP) were purified using a DEAE-52 cellulose column to obtain two types of neutral SRPs (FSRP-1 and HSRP-1) and two types of acidic SRPs (FSRP-2 and HSRP-2). We found that drying can affect the structural characteristics and antioxidant activities of SRPs. Varied monosaccharide compositions were found in FSRP-1, FSRP-2, HSRP-1 and HSRP-2, and HAD-treated SRP had more glucose and less galactose. The (1 → 6)-α-D-Galp linkage was the primary chain in FSRP-1 and HSRP-1, whereas the (1 → 3)-ß-D-Glcp was the backbone structure in FSRP-2 and HSRP-2. Our results thus suggest that hot air drying changed the ß-configuration in polysaccharides. FSRP-1, FSRP-2, HSRP-1 and HSRP-2 had positive ferric ion reducing antioxidant power and scavenging activities on ABTS+ and hydroxyl radicals, whereas HSRP exhibited a stronger antioxidant activity than that of FSRP. Hot-air dried S. rugosoannulata could therefore be recommended as a suitable candidate for use in the preparation of antioxidant polysaccharides as functional foods.
