RESUMEN

This study evaluated the association between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in vitamin-D-related genes and the amount of external apical root resorption linked to orthodontic treatment. One hundred and forty-three individuals were assessed. The amount of external apical root resorption of upper central incisors (EARRinc ) and lower first molars (EARRmol ) were evaluated in radiographs. Seven SNPs were genotyped across four genes including the vitamin D receptor [VDR], group-specific component [GC], cytochrome P450 family 27 subfamily B member 1 [CYP27B1], and cytochrome P450 family 24 subfamily A member 1 [CYP24A1]. Linear regressions were implemented to determine allele-effects on external apical root resorption. Individuals carrying the AA genotype in VDR rs2228570 had a 21% higher EARRmol than those having AG and GG genotypes (95% CI: 1.03,1.40). EARRmol in heterozygous rs2228570, was 12% lower than for homozygotes (95%CI: 0.78,0.99). Participants with the CCG haplotype (rs1544410-rs7975232-rs731236) in VDR had an EARRmol 16% lower than those who did not carry this haplotype. Regarding CYP27B1 rs4646536, EARRinc in participants who had at least one G allele was 42% lower than for homozygotes AA (95%CI: 0.37,0.93). Although these results did not remain significant after multiple testing adjustment, potential associations may still be suggested. Further replication studies are needed to confirm or refute these findings.

PURPOSE: To investigate cross-sectional associations between dietary patterns and cognitive functioning in elderly free of dementia. METHODS: Data of 389 participants from the German DELCODE study (52% female, 69 ± 6 years, mean Mini Mental State Score 29 ± 1) were included. The sample was enriched with elderly at increased risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD) by including participants with subjective cognitive decline, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and siblings of AD patients. Mediterranean and MIND diets were derived from 148 Food Frequency Questionnaire items, and data-driven patterns by principal component analysis (PCA) of 39 food groups. Associations between dietary patterns and five cognitive domain scores were analyzed with linear regression analyses adjusted for demographics (model 1), and additionally for energy intake, BMI, other lifestyle variables and APOe4-status (model 2). For PCA-derived dietary components, final model 3 included all other dietary components. RESULTS: In fully adjusted models, adherence to Mediterranean and MIND diet was associated with better memory. The 'alcoholic beverages' PCA component was positively associated with most cognitive domains. Exclusion of MCI subjects (n = 60) revealed that Mediterranean and MIND diet were also related to language functions; associations with the alcoholic beverages component were attenuated, but most remained significant. CONCLUSION: In line with data from elderly population samples, Mediterranean and MIND diet and some data-derived dietary patterns were related to memory and language function. Longitudinal data are needed to draw conclusions on the putative effect of nutrition on the rate of cognitive decline, and on the potential of dietary interventions in groups at increased risk for AD.

Blood at crime scenes is one of the most significant traces of evidence in investigation proceedings. Cleaning up these traces with household cleaning products, often containing bleaching agents, inhibits or complicates the detection of DNA. In this study, human blood was applied onto different floor coverings (carpet, laminate, parquet, PVC, tile) and subsequently cleaned with water and bleaching agents (hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite, DanKlorix®, Vanish Oxi Action®) at different times. Samples have been collected afterwards from the floors. The samples underwent a quantitative and qualitative DNA analysis. Cleaning smooth surfaces with water is usually sufficed to prohibit retrieving a DNA profile in most of the cases. Cleaning carpets was more difficult due to their absorbent surface whereas the use of bleaching agents caused an additional reduction of verifiable DNA concentrations. Retrieving partial or complete profiles after the use of bleaching agents was only possible when cleaning with low concentrations of 3% hydrogen peroxide.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: To support clinical decision-making in central neurological disorders, a physical examination is used to assess responses to passive muscle stretch. However, what exactly is being assessed is expressed and interpreted in different ways. A clear diagnostic framework is lacking. Therefore, the aim was to arrive at unambiguous terminology about the concepts and measurement around pathophysiological neuromuscular response to passive muscle stretch. METHODS: During two consensus meetings, 37 experts from 12 European countries filled online questionnaires based on a Delphi approach, followed by plenary discussion after rounds. Consensus was reached for agreement ≥75%. RESULTS: The term hyper-resistance should be used to describe the phenomenon of impaired neuromuscular response during passive stretch, instead of for example 'spasticity' or 'hypertonia'. From there, it is essential to distinguish non-neural (tissue-related) from neural (central nervous system related) contributions to hyper-resistance. Tissue contributions are elasticity, viscosity and muscle shortening. Neural contributions are velocity dependent stretch hyperreflexia and non-velocity dependent involuntary background activation. The term 'spasticity' should only be used next to stretch hyperreflexia, and 'stiffness' next to passive tissue contributions. When joint angle, moment and electromyography are recorded, components of hyper-resistance within the framework can be quantitatively assessed. CONCLUSIONS: A conceptual framework of pathophysiological responses to passive muscle stretch is defined. This framework can be used in clinical assessment of hyper-resistance and will improve communication between clinicians. Components within the framework are defined by objective parameters from instrumented assessment. These parameters need experimental validation in order to develop treatment algorithms based on the aetiology of the clinical phenomena.

Purpose To assess the impact of vertigo on health-related quality of life (HrQoL) of children/adolescents and to assess if the impact on HrQoL varies by age group, gender, and type of vertigo diagnoses. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical and HrQoL data of children and adolescents referred to the German Center of Vertigo and Balance Disorders (n = 32; male = 17; female = 15; age range: 8-18 years), using the KIDSCREEN-52 questionnaire. For each scale, means of the Z-scores with 95% confidence intervals of the study and norm sample were compared. By nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis statistics differences between diagnostic groups were assessed. To assess the gender- and age-specific impact of vertigo on quality of life, Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used. Results The means of the physical well-being, psychological well-being, autonomy scale, and the general HrQoL index of patients were considerably lower than the means of the norm sample. The physical well-being seemed to be most affected by vertigo. The reduction of HrQoL was not related to gender and vertigo types but seemed to be higher in children suffering from vertigo aged 12 to 18 years than children aged 8 to 11 years. Conclusion These are the first data to demonstrate impaired HrQoL in children with chronic vertigo.

BACKGROUND: Interleukin (IL) 37 has been described as a negative regulator of innate immunity, as it reduces the activation and cytokine production of different innate immune cells. Recently, results from the CLARA childhood asthma cohort suggested an implication of IL-37 for human asthma pathogenesis. This study aimed to investigate the effects of IL-37 on allergic airway inflammation in a mouse model of experimental asthma. METHODS: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of children were cultured for 48 h (anti-CD3/anti-CD28 stimulation or unstimulated), and IL-37 concentrations in supernatants were determined. Wild-type, IL-18Rα-deficient ((-/-) ), and SIGIRR(-/-) C57BL/6 mice were sensitized to ovalbumin (OVA) and challenged with OVA aerosol to induce acute experimental asthma, and IL-37 was applied intranasally prior to each OVA challenge. Airway hyper-responsiveness (AHR), airway inflammation, cytokine levels in broncho-alveolar lavage fluid, and mucus production were determined. RESULTS: IL-37 production of human PBMCs was significantly lower in allergic asthmatics vs healthy children. In wild-type mice, intranasal administration of IL-37 ablated allergic airway inflammation as well as cytokine production and subsequently diminished the hallmarks of experimental asthma including mucus hyperproduction and AHR. In contrast, local application of IL-37 produced none of these effects in mice lacking either IL18Rα or SIGIRR/IL-1R8. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that IL-37 is able to ablate a TH2 cell-directed allergic inflammatory response and the hallmarks of experimental asthma in mice, suggesting that IL-37 may be critical for asthma pathogenesis. Furthermore, these data suggest a mode of action of IL-37 that involves IL18Rα as well as the orphan receptor SIGIRR/IL-1R8.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: To investigate resource use and burden associated with spina bifida (SB) in Germany. METHODS: A questionnaire was used to obtain information on SB-related healthcare resource use and assistive technologies used for the last 1 and 10 years. Individuals with SB were recruited at a tertiary specialist clinic. To participate, persons with SB required the cognitive ability to respond or a caregiver to answer questions on their behalf. They could use personal medical charts or other records to answer. The analyses included assessment of frequency and extent of resource use for both time frames. RESULTS: Data on 88 persons with a diagnosis of SB were collected (44% female). During the last year, 88.6% (N = 78) reported at least one visit to a general practitioner's (GP's) office, 77.3% (N = 68) to a urologist and 69.3% (N = 61) to a physiotherapist. The annual average number of visits was 7.6 GP, 3.6 urologist and 65.3 physiotherapist visits. Amongst those hospitalized, a single hospitalization lasted 7.3 days on average, whereas the average annual number of hospital days was 14.8 days. During the previous 10 years, 67.0% (N = 59) of responders used a wheelchair, 64.7% (N = 57) used glasses and 59.1% (N = 52) used orthopaedic shoes, with an average of 2.5, 2.8 and 6.1 new items used, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that persons with SB require a substantial amount of interaction with healthcare providers, as well as other healthcare-related resource use, both in the shorter and longer terms.

Osmotic stresses, protein insertion or lipid oxidation lead to area increase of self-assembled lipid membranes. However, methods to measure membrane expansion are scarce. Challenged by recent progress on the control of phospholipid hydroperoxidation, we introduce a method to quantitatively evaluate membrane area increase based on the bio-adhesion of Giant Unilamellar Vesicles.

According to present knowledge, blood derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) might act as proangiogenic myeloid cells, which play a fundamental role in the regulation of angiogenesis and blood vessel reorganisation. In this context, we have evaluated the contribution of endogenous myeloid cells in co-cultures of blood derived outgrowth endothelial cells (OEC) and osteogenic cells. In addition, we investigated the role of EPC as a potential source of myeloid cells in the formation of vascular structures in an in vitro model consisting of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and OEC. For this purpose, we added EPCs to co-cultures of MSC and OECs. Vascular structures and the co-localisation of myeloid cells were analysed by confocal laser microscopy (CLSM) for endothelial and myeloid markers and quantitative image analysis. The molecular effects of myeloid cells were evaluated by quantitative real time PCR, ELISA and protein arrays from cell culture supernatants and lysates. Endogenous myeloid cells were significantly co-localised with angiogenic structures in co-cultures of OEC and osteogenic cells. The active addition of EPC to co-cultures of OEC and MSC resulted in a statistically approved increase in the formation of prevascular structures at early stages of the co-culture process. In addition, we observed an increase of endothelial markers, indicating beneficial effects of EPC or myeloid cells on endothelial cell growth. Furthermore, real time PCR indicated high expression levels of CD68, CD11b and CD163 in co-cultures of EPC and MSC indicating that EPC act at least partly as macrophage like-cells.

Expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) analysis is a powerful approach toward identifying genetic loci associated with quantitative changes in gene expression. We applied genome-wide association analysis to a data set of >300 000 single-nucleotide polymorphisms and >48 000 mRNA expression phenotypes obtained by Illumina microarray profiling of 149 human surgical liver samples obtained from Caucasian donors with detailed medical documentation. Of 1226 significant associations, only 200 were validated when comparing with a previously published similar study. Potential explanations for low replication rate include differences in microarray platforms, statistical modeling, covariates considered and origin and collection procedures of tissues. Focused analysis revealed a subset of 95 associations related to absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of drugs. Of these, 21 were true replications and 74 were newly discovered associations in enzymes, transporters, transcriptional regulators and other genes. This study extends our knowledge about the genetics of inter-individual variability of gene expression with particular emphasis on pharmacogenomics.

PURPOSE: The incidence of ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) and concomitant vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) ranges from 14 to 18 %. Therefore, different guidelines recommend a voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) to identify cases of VUR early in the diagnostic process. Aim of this multicenter study was to reassess the incidence of concomitant VUR and the need for additional VCUG in a large cohort of patients with UPJO. Furthermore, we asked for clinical objectives that defined the need for VCUG with the intention of minimizing radiation exposure and the need for invasive diagnostic procedures. METHODS: Medical records for 266 patients (69 girls, 197 boys) with UPJO were analyzed retrospectively. Data were obtained on gender, clinical symptoms, results of pre- and postnatal ultrasound, VCUG and 99(m)Technetium-MAG3 (MAG3) scan. They were correlated with the incidence of concomitant VUR. RESULTS: One hundred and seventy-eight patients (67 %) underwent VCUG. Concomitant VUR was detected in 13 patients. Dilating VUR (dVUR) was observed in 11 patients. In our study, the overall incidence of a concomitant VUR was 7.3 %. In cases of proven VUR, we observed a positive predictive value for female gender, ureteral dilatation, renal insufficiency, and recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI). But there was no correlation between concomitant VUR and the severity of hydronephrosis. CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that the low incidence of concomitant VUR in cases of UPJO does not justify the routine use of VCUG as a routine diagnostic tool. Especially, ureteral dilatation and recurrent UTI have a positive predictive value for concomitant VUR.

Chromatin-remodeling complexes regulate the expression of genes in all eukaryotic genomes. The SWI/SNF complex of Saccharomyces cerevisiae is recruited to its target promoters via interactions with selected transcription factors. Here, we show that the N-terminus of Snf2p, the chromatin remodeling core unit of the SWI/SNF complex, is essential for the expression of VHT1, the gene of the plasma membrane H(+)/biotin symporter, and of BIO5, the gene of a 7-keto-8-aminopelargonic acid transporter, biotin biosynthetic precursor. chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) analyses demonstrate that Vhr1p, the transcriptional regulator of VHT1 and BIO5 expression, is responsible for the targeting of Snf2p to the VHT1 promoter at low biotin. We identified an Snf2p mutant, Snf2p-R(15)C, that specifically abolishes the induction of VHT1 and BIO5 but not of other Snf2p-regulated genes, such as GAL1, SUC2 or INO1. We present a novel mechanism of target gene-specific SWI/SNF recruitment via Vhr1p and a conserved N-terminal Snf2p domain.

The objective of this study was to improve knowledge regarding the amino acid profile of the insoluble portion of ingested forage escaping rumen degradation. Six forage categories were analyzed. Categories varied in botanical composition and each contained 2 samples. Samples within categories were derived from the same parent material but differed in harvest, maturity, or conservation type. The rumen-undegradable protein of all forages was measured by incubation for 16h in the rumen of 3 nonlactating cows. All residues were corrected for microbial colonization. The AA profile of the residue was different to the original profile. Degradation trends of individual AA, in terms of increase or decrease relative to the original concentration, were similar between all forages. The AA profiles of forage residues, both within and between categories, were more similar to each other than to their respective original profile. This information may aid in improving the accuracy of estimating postruminal AA supply from forages while decreasing the number of samples required to be analyzed.

The binding of cationic surfactants with varying alkyl chain length to a regiorandom conjugated polyanion, poly(3-thiophene acetic acid) (PTAA), is studied in an aqueous buffer by using absorption and emission spectroscopies, photon correlation spectroscopy, isothermal titration calorimetry, and cryogenic transmission electron microscopy. We study the mixed solutions as a function of composition ratio R of surfactant molecules to monomer units molar concentrations, at low polymer concentration and in a very wide composition range (10(-6) < R < 10(2)) below the critical micellar concentration. Upon surfactant binding, the molecularly dispersed chains first collapse progressively and then form new structures as the mixed aggregates get enriched in surfactant. The collapse leads to a strong decrease of the conjugation length and to a blue shift of the absorption spectra by 30 to 50 nm. The new structures are responsible for a new intense emission band at about 600 nm, red-shifted by nearly 130 nm from the initial emission maximum of the polymer (~472 nm). As the surfactant tail becomes shorter, the blue shift of the absorption spectra and the intensity raise of the new emission are delayed to larger composition ratios while their variations become smoother functions of the surfactant concentration. These particular spectroscopic properties of PTAA seem related to its unique combination of a strongly hydrophobic backbone, a large ratio of contour length to persistence length, and an overall good aqueous solubility. Our results show that such features are well suited to design a colorimetric biosensor at small composition ratio, and a fluorescent biomarker at large composition ratio.

Size-selective mortality inevitably leads to a decrease in population density and exerts a direct negative effect on targeted size classes. But density and population size structure are also shaped by food-dependent processes, such as individual growth, maturation, and reproduction. Mortality relaxes competition and thereby alters the dynamic interplay among these processes. As shown by the recently developed size-structured theory, which can account for food-dependent individual performance, this altered interplay can lead to overcompensatory responses in size class-specific biomass, with increasing mortality. We experimentally tested this theory by subjecting laboratory fish populations to a range of size-selective mortality rates. Overall, the results were in agreement with theoretical predictions. Biomass of the juvenile size class increased above control levels at intermediate adult mortality rates and thereafter declined at high mortality rates. Juvenile biomass also increased when juveniles themselves were subjected to intermediate mortality rates. Biomass in other size classes decreased with mortality. Such biomass overcompensation can have wide-ranging implications for communities and food webs, including a high sensitivity of top predators to irreversible catastrophic collapses, the establishment of alternative stable community states, and the promotion of coexistence and biodiversity.

OBJECTIVES: To present the prevalence and distribution of heart disease as well as echocardiographic findings in English Bull Terriers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred and one English Bull Terriers were retrospectively included to evaluate the prevalence and distribution of heart disease. Secondly, a retrospective study on mitral valve abnormalities was performed on three groups: a control group (n=120, 19 breeds) used to establish reference intervals for mean transmitral gradient; a healthy English Bull Terriers group (n=25) and an English Bull Terriers group with mitral valve abnormalities (n= 18). Healthy English Bull Terriers for which mitral inflow parameters were not obtainable and English Bull Terriers with other types of heart disease were excluded. RESULTS: The prevalence of heart disease in English Bull Terriers was 65% (66/101), with mitral valve abnormalities (47%, 47/101) and aortic stenosis (29%, 29/101) being most common. The cut-off value for normal mean transmitral gradient was 3.5 mmHg in the control group. The mean transmitral gradient for healthy English Bull Terriers was higher than for other dog breeds. Healthy English Bull Terriers had a smaller mitral valve area and mitral annulus diameter compared with dogs with a similar body surface area. A high heart rate, smaller mitral valve area, mitral regurgitation, and volume overload are associated with increased mean transmitral gradient in English Bull Terriers with mitral valve abnormalities. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: We suggest that mitral valve area, mitral annulus diameter and mean transmitral gradient measurements should be included in the echocardiographic protocol for English Bull Terriers.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa increasingly causes health care-associated infections. In this study, we determined the activity of ceftolozane-tazobactam, ceftazidime-avibactam, and cefiderocol against 223 MDR P. aeruginosa clinical isolates recovered from 2013 to 2017 at the University Hospital Frankfurt by using MIC test strips. Furthermore, we evaluated the presence of genes encoding major ß-lactamases, such as VIM, IMP, NDM, GIM, SPM, and KPC; the extended spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL)-carbapenemase GES; and the virulence-associated traits ExoS and ExoU, as in particular ExoU is thought to be associated with poor clinical outcome. For MDR P. aeruginosa isolates, the MIC50/MIC90 values of ceftolozane-tazobactam, ceftazidime-avibactam, and cefiderocol were 8/>256 mg/L, 16/>256 mg/L, and 0.25/1 mg/L, respectively. Cefiderocol showed the highest susceptibility rate (97.3%) followed by ceftazidime-avibactam (48.4%) and ceftolozane-tazobactam (46.6%). In 81 (36.3%) isolates, carbapenemase gene blaVIM was detected, and in 5 (2.2%) isolates, blaGES was detected (with a positive association of exoU and blaVIM). More than half of the isolates belong to the so-called international P. aeruginosa "high-risk" clones, with sequence type 235 (ST235) (24.7%) being the most prevalent. This study underlines that ceftolozane-tazobactam, ceftazidime-avibactam, and cefiderocol are important options for the treatment of infections due to MDR P. aeruginosa, with cefiderocol currently being the most active available antipseudomonal ß-lactam agent. According to our clinical experience, the outcome of cefiderocol therapy (8 patients) was favorable especially in cases of MDR P. aeruginosa-associated complicated urinary tract infections. IMPORTANCE After testing ceftolozane-tazobactam, ceftazidime-avibactam, and cefiderocol against a collection of 233 multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa, we showed that cefiderocol is the most active antipseudomonal ß-lactam agent (susceptibility rates were 46.6%, 48.4%, and 97.4%, respectively). The most prevalent one was sequence type 235 (ST235) (24.7%), followed by ST244, ST175, and ST233, with all belonging to the top 10 P. aeruginosa high-risk clones with worldwide distribution. Our data indicate that during surveillance studies special attention should be paid to the MDR and highly virulent VIM- and ExoU-producing variant of ST235. Furthermore, in the case of infections caused by carbapenemase-producing MDR P. aeruginosa, cefiderocol is the preferred treatment option, while outcomes of complicated urinary tract infections and hospital-acquired pneumonia with cefiderocol were favorable.

BACKGROUND: In a university hospital setting, a 25-year-old woman presented with large vaginal and cervical polyps. Past medical history was significant for stage IV endometriosis. Polypectomy was performed and the polyps were histologically consistent with endometriosis. Gene expression was compared with control vaginal tissue to assess if the altered gene expression profile was similar to peritoneal endometriosis. METHODS AND RESULTS: Using quantitative reverse transcription, real-time PCR, estrogen receptor-ß expression was found to be upregulated 10-fold while estrogen receptor-α expression was downregulated 5-fold in the vaginal polyp relative to control vaginal tissue. The estrogen-synthesizing enzyme aromatase was upregulated 8-fold and 3ß-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase was upregulated 400-fold in the polyp. Immunohistochemical staining revealed altered cell type localization for progesterone receptor in the polyp and increased cell proliferation in polyp stromal cells relative to control. CONCLUSIONS: Increased proliferation in the vaginal polypoid endometriotic tissue may be due to increased local estrogen production. The altered gene expression profile was very similar to the altered gene expression profile seen in peritoneal endometriosis.

INTRODUCTION: Several evaluations of deaths in persons of advanced age associated with SARS-CoV­2 can be found in the international literature. The aim of this work was the evaluation of deaths associated with SARS-CoV­2 of persons of younger or middle age (up to 50 years) at the Institute of Legal Medicine in Hamburg, Germany, with presentation of frequency, comorbidities and disease courses. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 735 SARS-CoV-2-associated cases of decedents with registered addresses in Hamburg were evaluated in 2020 at the Institute of Legal Medicine in Hamburg, Germany, using various examination methods. The selection and performance of the respective methods was based on the consent given by the relatives. In addition, more autopsies of decedents with a registered address outside Hamburg and positive SARS-CoV­2 detection were performed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Of the 735 decedents 9 with a registered Hamburg address and 3 of the deaths studied with an external registered address (n = 12; 7 men and 5 women) were aged 50 years or younger, with an average age of 39.8 years. Essentially, there were cardiovascular, neurological, and malignant pre-existing diseases, as well as obesity. The SARS-CoV­2 was detected post-mortem for the first time in two cases; these were found to have a virus-independent cause of death. Of the individuals 7 died from COVID-19 pneumonia, 3 individuals from the consequences of the necessary intensive medical treatment.Several studies have demonstrated an association between obesity and severe SARS-CoV-2-related disease progression, particularly in younger patients and this was confirmed in the legal medicine study population.

Post-mortem computed tomography (PMCT) is a rapid and noninvasive diagnostic tool for important contributions to the identification of pulmonary findings in the deceased with pneumonia, including cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Although computed tomography (CT) shows a high sensitivity for pneumonia in living persons, it is relatively unspecific for COVID-19 pneumonia clinically. Typical CT findings for viral pneumonia therefore require confirmation by PCR tests (polymerase chain reaction tests), even if lung infections with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) show characteristic patterns, most frequently ground glass opacities (GGO) and a combination of GGO and air space consolidations. In the consecutive autopsy series of SARS-CoV­2 deaths from Hamburg, Germany, the most frequent cause of death was and still is COVID-19 pneumonia. Typical findings were frequently found in the PMCT in SARS-CoV-2-associated deaths, which were taken into account when classifying the death as COVID-19.
