RESUMEN

In this paper, we study long-term trends in social mobility in the People's Republic of China since its inception in 1949, with two operationalizations: 1) intergenerational occupational mobility and 2) intergenerational educational mobility. We draw on an accumulation of administrative and survey data and provide comparable estimates of these measures for birth cohorts born after 1945. To help interpret the results, we compare trends in China to those in the United States for the same birth cohorts. We find an increase in intergenerational occupational mobility in China due to its rapid industrialization in recent decades. Net of industrialization, however, intergenerational occupational mobility has been declining for recent cohorts. Intergenerational educational mobility in China shows a similar declining trend. In addition, mobility patterns have differed greatly by gender, with women in earlier cohorts and from a rural origin particularly disadvantaged. We attribute the general decline in social mobility to market forces that have taken hold since China's economic reform that began in 1978. In contrast, social mobility by both measures has been relatively stable in the United States. However, while social mobility in China has trended downward, it is still higher than that in the United States, except for women's educational mobility.

RESUMEN

The high expression of Spermidine/spermine N1-acetyltransferase (SSAT-1) is an important indicator in early cancer diagnosis. Here, we developed a nanopore-based methodology with γ-cyclodextrin as an adaptor to detect and quantify acetylamantadine, the specific SSAT-1-catalyzed product from amantadine, to accordingly reflect the activity of SSAT-1. We employ γ-cyclodextrin and report that amantadine cannot cause any secondary signals in γ-cyclodextrin-assisted α-HL nanopore, while its acetylation product, acetylamantadine, does. This allows γ-cyclodextrin to practically detect acetylamantadine in the interference of excessive amantadine, superior to the previously reported ß-cyclodextrin. The quantification of acetylamantadine was not interfered with even a 50-fold amantadine and displayed no interference in artificial urine sample analysis, which indicates the good feasibility of this nanopore-based methodology in painless cancer prediagnosis. In addition, the discrimination mechanism is also explored by 2-D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nanopore experiments with a series of adamantane derivatives with different hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups. We found that both the hydrophobic region matching effect and hydrophilic interactions play a synergistic effect in forming a host-guest complex to further generate the characteristic signals, which may provide insights for the subsequent design and study of drug-cyclodextrin complexes.

RESUMEN

The pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis (AR)-related olfactory dysfunction (OD) remains unknown. Inhibiting microglial response in olfactory bulb (OB) can ameliorate AR-related OD, but no precise targets have been available. In this study, we established a mouse model of ovalbumin (OVA)-induced AR and combined with the application of P2X7 receptor (P2X7R)-specific antagonists and cell culture in conditioned medium to investigate the role and mechanism of OB microglial P2X7R in AR-related OD. Serum IgE and IL-5 levels determined via ELISA and federated the number of nose-scratching to affirm the success of OVA-induced AR mouse model. Buried food pellet test was used to evaluate the olfactory function of mice. The changes of IBA1, GFAP, P2X7R, IL-1ß, IL-1Ra, and CASPASE 1 were detected by quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blotting. The levels of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) were determined by the commercialized kit. The morphological changes of microglia were assessed using immunofluorescence staining and Sholl analysis. Findings showed that AR-related OD was associated with OB microglia-mediated imbalance between IL-1ß and IL-1Ra. Treatment with BBG improved the olfactory function in AR mice with restoring the balance between IL-1ß and IL-1Ra. In vitro, the conditioned medium obtained after HNEpC treatment with Der p1 could activate HMC3 to arise inflammatory reaction basing on "ATP-P2X7R-Caspase 1" axis, while inhibition of its P2X7R suppressed the reaction. In brief, microglial P2X7R in OB is a direct effector molecule in AR-related OD and inhibition of it may be a new strategy for the treatment of AR-related OD.

RESUMEN

Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) are important mediators of intercellular communication by transferring of functional components (proteins, RNAs, and lipids) to recipient cells. Some PTMs, including phosphorylation and N-glycosylation, have been reported to play important role in EV biology, such as biogenesis, protein sorting and uptake of sEVs. MS-based proteomic technology has been applied to identify proteins and PTM modifications in sEVs. Previous proteomic studies of sEVs from C2C12 myoblasts, an important skeletal muscle cell line, focused on identification of proteins, but no PTM information on sEVs proteins is available. In this study, we systematically analyzed the proteome, phosphoproteome, and N-glycoproteome of sEVs from C2C12 myoblasts with LC-MS/MS. In-depth analyses of the three proteomic datasets revealed that the three proteomes identified different catalogues of proteins, and PTMomic analysis could expand the identification of cargos in sEVs. At the proteomic level, a high percentage of membrane proteins, especially tetraspanins, was identified. The sEVs-derived phosphoproteome had a remarkably high level of tyrosine-phosphorylated sites. The tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins might be involved with EPH-Ephrin signaling pathway. At the level of N-glycoproteomics, several glycoforms, such as complex N-linked glycans and sialic acids on glycans, were enriched in sEVs. Retrieving of the ligand-receptor interaction in sEVs revealed that extracellular matrix (ECM) and cell adhesion molecule (CAM) represented the most abundant ligand-receptor pairs in sEVs. Mapping the PTM information on the ligands and receptors revealed that N-glycosylation mainly occurred on ECM and CAM proteins, while phosphorylation occurred on different categories of receptors and ligands. A comprehensive PTM map of ECM-receptor interaction and their components is also provided. In summary, we conducted a comprehensive proteomic and PTMomic analysis of sEVs of C2C12 myoblasts. Integrated proteomic, phosphoproteomic, and N-glycoproteomic analysis of sEVs might provide some insights about their specific uptake mechanism.

RESUMEN

People often express feeling that time passes quickly or slowly in their daily lives, which is termed passage of time judgment (PoTJ). Past studies have shown that PoTJ is affected by emotional valence and arousal; however, few studies have verified the effects of alertness, attention to time, and time expectation on PoTJ and whether the effects are stable over different time periods. Using the experience sampling method (ESM) and diary method, the present study collected data from 105 participants and examined for the first time whether alertness, attention to time, and time expectation affect PoTJ based on daily life data, as well as whether above factors, emotional valence, and arousal are stable over different time periods. All participants answered a questionnaire five times a day on their in-the-day PoTJ and related factors regarding the last 30 min, and answered the same questionnaire once a day at 23:00 regarding the of-the-day PoTJ. The results showed that alertness and time expectation, as well as emotional valence and arousal, predicted an individual's in-the-day PoTJ over a shorter period (i.e., the last 30 min); in contrast, only time expectation and emotional arousal predicted of-the-day PoTJ over a longer period (i.e., the past day). These results suggest that, alertness and time expectation are important factors influencing PoTJ, in addition to emotional state. Of-the-day PoTJ correlates most strongly with the mean and latest in-the-day PoTJ, implying that overall perception of time passage is influenced by both cumulative temporal experience and recent temporal experience.

RESUMEN

Selective recognition of short oligonucleotides at the single-molecule level is particularly important for early disease detection and treatment. In this work, polydopamine (PDA)-coated nanopores were prepared via self-polymerization as a solid-state nanopore sensing platform for the recognition of oligonucleotide C (PolyC). The PDA coating possesses abundant active sites, such as indole, amino, carboxyl, catechol, and quinone structures, which had interactions with short oligonucleotides to slow down the translocation rate. PDA-coated nanopores selectively interact with PolyC20 by virtue of differences in hydrogen bonding forces, generating a larger blocking current, while polyA and polyT demonstrated very small blockings. At the same time, PDA-coated nanopores can sensitively distinguish PolyC with different lengths, such as 20, 14, and 10 nt. The functionalization of PDA on the solid-state nanopore provides an opportunity for the rational design of the recognition surface for biomolecules.

RESUMEN

Protein identification and discrimination at the single-molecule level are big challenges. Solid-state nanopores as a sensitive biosensor have been used for protein analysis, although it is difficult to discriminate proteins with similar structures in the traditional discrimination method based on the current blockage fraction. Here, we select ferritin and apo-ferritin as the model proteins that exhibit identical exterior and different interior structures and verify the practicability of their discrimination with flexibility features by the strategy of gradually decreasing the nanopore size. We show that the larger nanopore (relative to the protein size) has no obvious effect on discriminating two proteins. Then, the comparable-sized nanopore plays a key role in discriminating two proteins based on the dwell time and fraction distribution, and the conformational changes of both proteins are also studied with this nanopore. Finally, in the smaller nanopore, the protein molecules are trapped rather than translocated, where two proteins are obviously discriminated through the current fluctuation caused by the vibration of proteins. This strategy has potential in the discrimination of other important similar proteins.

RESUMEN

In addition to typical nasal symptoms, patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) will further lead to symptoms related to brain function such as hyposmia, anxiety, depression, cognitive impairment, memory loss, etc., which seriously affect the quality of life of patients and bring a heavy burden to the patient's family and society. Some scholars have speculated that there may be potential "nose-brain communication" mechanism in AR that rely on neuro-immunity. This mechanism plays an important role in AR-associated brain response process. However, no study has directly demonstrated which neural circuits will change in the connection between the nose and brain during the onset of AR, and the mechanism which underlines this question is also lack. Focusing on the topic of "nose-brain communication", this paper systematically summarizes the latest research progress between AR and related brain responses and discusses the mechanism of AR-related neurological phenotypes. Hope new diagnostic and therapeutic targets to ameliorate the brain function-related symptoms and improve the quality of life of AR patients will be developed.

RESUMEN

A series of 2-oximino-2-indolylacetamide derivatives were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their antitumour effects. Among them, 4d exhibited the most potent antiproliferative effect in vitro on the tested human cancer cells. Additionally, 4d significantly induced cell apoptosis, caused mitochondrial dysfunction, promoted Bax, cleaved-PARP and p53 expression and inhibited Bcl-2 expression in 5-8F cells. Moreover, 4d remarkably promoted autophagosome formation, leading to cell apoptosis. Further investigation indicated that 4d could trigger cell death through cell ferroptosis, including increased ROS generation and lipid peroxidation and decreased glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPx4) expression and glutathione (GSH) levels. More importantly, 4d induced 5-8F cell death by activating ROS/MAPK and inhibiting the AKT/mTOR and STAT3 signalling pathways. Interestingly, 4d significantly suppressed tumour growth in a 5-8F cell xenograft model without obvious toxicity to mice. Overall, these results demonstrate that 4d may be a potential compound for cancer therapy.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: As populations age, cancer burden becomes increasingly conspicuous. This study quantified the cancer burden of the elderly (≥ 60 years) in China, based on the China Cancer Registry Annual Report to provide epidemiological evidence for cancer prevention and control. METHODS: Data on cancer cases and deaths among the elderly aged ≥ 60 years were collected from the China Cancer Registry Annual Report, 2008-2019. Potential years of life lost (PYLL) and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) were calculated to analyze fatalities and the non-fatal burden. The time trend was analyzed using the Joinpoint model. RESULTS: From 2005 to 2016, the PYLL rate of cancer in the elderly was stable between 45.34‰ and 47.62‰, but the DALY rate for cancer decreased at an average annual rate of 1.18% (95% CI: 0.84-1.52%). The non-fatal cancer burden in the rural elderly was higher than that of the urban elderly. Lung, gastric, liver, esophageal, and colorectal cancers were the main cancers causing the cancer burden in the elderly, and accounted for 74.3% of DALYs. The DALY rate of lung cancer in females in the 60-64 age group increased (annual percentage change [APC] = 1.14%, 95% CI: 0.10-1.82%). Female breast cancer was one of the top five cancers in the 60-64 age group, with DALY rates that also increased (APC = 2.17%, 95% CI: 1.35-3.01%). With increasing age, the burden of liver cancer decreased, while that of colorectal cancer rose. CONCLUSIONS: From 2005 to 2016, the cancer burden in the elderly in China decreased, mainly reflected in the non-fatal burden. Female breast and liver cancer were a more serious burden in the younger elderly, while colorectal cancer burden was mainly observed in the older elderly.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Leukemia is a threat to human health, and there are relatively few studies on the incidence, mortality and disease burden analysis of leukemia in China. This study aimed to analyze the incidence and mortality rates of leukemia in China from 2005 to 2017 and estimate their age-period-cohort effects, it is an important prerequisite for effective prevention and control of leukemia. METHODS: Leukemia incidence and mortality data from 2005 to 2017 were collected from the Chinese Cancer Registry Annual Report. Joinpoint regression model was used to estimate the average annual percentage change (AAPC) and annual percentage change (APC) response time trend. Age-period-cohort model was constructed to analyze the effects of age, period and cohort. RESULTS: The age-standardized incidence rate of leukemia was 4.54/100,000 from 2005 to 2017, showed an increasing trend with AAPC of 1.9% (95% CI: 1.3%, 2.5%). The age-standardized mortality rate was 2.91/100,000, showed an increasing trend from 2005 to 2012 with APC of 2.1% (95%CI: 0.4%, 3.9%) and then a decreasing trend from 2012 to 2017 with APC of -2.5% (95%CI: -5.3%, 0.3%). The age-standardized incidence (mortality) rates of leukemia were not only higher in males than that in females, but also increased more rapidly. The incidence of leukemia in rural areas was lower than in urban areas, but the AAPC was 2.2 times higher than urban areas. Children aged 0-4 years were at higher risk of leukemia. The risk of leukemia incidence and mortality increased with age. The period effect of leukemia mortality risk showed a decreasing trend, while the cohort effect showed an increasing and then decreasing trend with the turning point of 1955-1959. CONCLUSIONS: The age-standardized incidence rate of leukemia in China showed an increasing trend from 2005 to 2017, while the age-standardized mortality rate increased first and then decreased in 2012 as a turning point. Differences existed by gender and region. The risk of leukemia incidence and mortality increased accordingly with age. The risk of mortality due to leukemia gradually decreased from 2005 to 2017. Leukemia remains a public health problem that requires continuous attention.

RESUMEN

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a chronic upper airway immune-inflammation response mediated by immunoglobulin E (IgE) to allergens and can seriously affect the quality of life and work efficiency. Previous studies have shown that interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) acts as a key cytokine to participate in and promote the occurrence and development of allergic diseases. It has been proposed that IL-1ß may be a potential biomarker of AR. However, its definitive role and potential mechanism in AR have not been fully elucidated, and the clinical sample collection and detection methods were inconsistent among different studies, which have limited the use of IL-1ß as a clinical diagnosis and treatment marker for AR. This article systematically summarizes the research advances in the roles of IL-1ß in allergic diseases, focusing on the changes of IL-1ß in AR and the possible interventions. In addition, based on the findings by our team, we provided new insights into the use of IL-1ß in AR diagnosis and treatment, in an attempt to further promote the clinical application of IL-1ß in AR and other allergic diseases.

RESUMEN

We make use of newly available data that include roughly 5 million linked household and population records from 1850 to 2015 to document long-term trends in intergenerational social mobility in the United States. Intergenerational mobility declined substantially over the past 150 y, but more slowly than previously thought. Intergenerational occupational rank-rank correlations increased from less than 0.17 to as high as 0.32, but most of this change occurred to Americans born before 1900. After controlling for the relatively high mobility of persons from farm origins, we find that intergenerational social mobility has been remarkably stable. In contrast with relative stability in rank-based measures of mobility, absolute mobility for the nonfarm population-the fraction of offspring whose occupational ranks are higher than those of their parents-increased for birth cohorts born prior to 1900 and has fallen for those born after 1940.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To explore the efficacy of different approaches of seminal vesiculoscopy surgery and the predictive factors of good treatment outcome. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 68 patients who underwent seminal vesiculoscopy for hematospermia in our hospital from January 2015 to January 2021. According to different surgical approaches, they were divided into three groups: natural ejaculatory ducts (method A, 45 cases), assisted transurethral resection/incision of ejaculatory ducts (method B, 14 cases), fenestration in prostatic utricle (method C, 9 cases). We analyzed the recurrence rate of the three surgical approaches and the predictive factors of treatment efficacy. RESULTS: The total recurrence rate after the seminal vesiculoscopy for hematospermia in this group was 32.35%. The postoperative recurrence rates of the three methods were 24.44% for method A, 50.00% for method B and 44.44% for method C, and there was no significant difference among the three methods (P > 0.05). The data of five predictors of 45 cases in method A group were included in the Univariate Logistic analysis, the results suggest that whether complicated with seminal tract stones/cysts was an effective predictor (OR 0.250, P = 0.022), which was still an effective predictor in the Multivariate Logistic analysis model (OR 0.244, P = 0.010). CONCLUSIONS: The Transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy technique demonstrates a low postoperative recurrence rate in treating hematospermia. Among the various approaches, the intraoperative use of natural orifices through the ejaculatory duct exhibits the lowest recurrence rate. Additionally, seminal tract stones/cysts effectively predict favorable postoperative outcomes.

RESUMEN

Vehicle Ad-hoc network (VANET) can provide technical support and solutions for the construction of intelligent and efficient transportation systems, and the routing protocol directly affects the efficiency of VANET. The rapid movement of nodes and uneven density distribution affect the routing stability and data transmission efficiency in VANET. To improve the local optimality and routing loops of the path-aware greedy perimeter stateless routing protocol (PA-GPSR) in urban sparse networks, a weight-based path-aware greedy perimeter stateless routing protocol (W-PAGPSR) is proposed. The protocol is divided into two stages. Firstly, in the routing establishment stage, the node distance, reliable node density, cumulative communication duration, and node movement direction are integrated to indicate the communication reliability of the node, and the next hop node is selected using the weight greedy forwarding strategy to achieve reliable transmission of data packets. Secondly, in the routing maintenance stage, based on the data packet delivery angle and reliable node density, the next hop node is selected for forwarding using the weight perimeter forwarding strategy to achieve routing repair. The simulation results show that compared to the greedy peripheral stateless routing protocol (GPSR), for the maximum distance-minimum angle greedy peripheral stateless routing (MM-GPSR) and PA-GPSR protocols, the packet loss rate of the protocol is reduced by an average of 24.47%, 25.02%, and 14.12%, respectively; the average end-to-end delay is reduced by an average of 48.34%, 79.96%, and 21.45%, respectively; and the network throughput is increased by an average of 47.68%, 58.39%, and 20.33%, respectively. This protocol improves network throughput while reducing the average end-to-end delay and packet loss rate.

RESUMEN

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurodegenerative disease with a complex pathogenesis. Re-lapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) is the most common subset of MS, accounting for approximately 85% of cases. Recent studies have shown that ferroptosis may contribute to the progression of RRMS, but the underlying mechanism remains to be elucidated. Herein, this study intended to explore the molecular network of ferroptosis associated with RRMS and establish a predictive model for efficacy diagnosis. Firstly, RRMS-related module genes were identified using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Secondly, the optimal machine learning model was selected from four options: the generalized linear model (GLM), random forest model (RF), support vector machine model (SVM), and extreme gradient boosting model (XGB). Subsequently, the predictive efficacy of the diagnostic model was evaluated using receiver operator characteristic (ROC) analysis. Finally, a SVM diagnostic model based on five genes (JUN, TXNIP, NCOA4, EIF2AK4, PIK3CA) was established, and it demonstrated good predictive performance in the validation dataset. In summary, our study provides a systematic exploration of the complex relationship between ferroptosis and RRMS, which may contribute to a better understanding of the role of ferroptosis in the pathogenesis of RRMS and provide promising diagnostic strategies for RRMS patients.

RESUMEN

The cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYP450) are the largest enzyme family in plant metabolism and widely involved in the biosynthesis of primary and secondary metabolites. Foxtail millet (Setaria italica (L.) P. Beauv) can respond to abiotic stress through a highly complex polygene regulatory network, in which the SiCYP450 family is also involved. Although the CYP450 superfamily has been systematically studied in a few species, the research on the CYP450 superfamily in foxtail millet has not been completed. In this study, three hundred and thirty-one SiCYP450 genes were identified in the foxtail millet genome by bioinformatics methods, which were divided into four groups, including forty-six subgroups. One hundred and sixteen genes were distributed in thirty-three tandem duplicated gene clusters. Chromosome mapping showed that SiCYP450 was distributed on seven chromosomes. In the SiCYP450 family of foxtail millet, 20 conserved motifs were identified. Cis-acting elements in the promoter region of SiCYP450 genes showed that hormone response elements were found in all SiCYP450 genes. Of the three hundred and thirty-one SiCYP450 genes, nine genes were colinear with the Arabidopsis thaliana genes. Two hundred SiCYP450 genes were colinear with the Setaria viridis genes, including two hundred and forty-five gene duplication events. The expression profiles of SiCYP450 genes in different organs and developmental stages showed that SiCYP450 was preferentially expressed in specific tissues, and many tissue-specific genes were identified, such as SiCYP75B6, SiCYP96A7, SiCYP71A55, SiCYP71A61, and SiCYP71A62 in the root, SiCYP78A1 and SiCYP94D9 in leaves, and SiCYP78A6 in the ear. The RT-PCR data showed that SiCYP450 could respond to abiotic stresses, ABA, and herbicides in foxtail millet. Among them, the expression levels of SiCYP709B4, SiCYP71A11, SiCYP71A14, SiCYP78A1, SiCYP94C3, and SiCYP94C4 were significantly increased under the treatment of mesotrione, florasulam, nicosulfuron, fluroxypyr, and sethoxydim, indicating that the same gene might respond to multiple herbicides. The results of this study will help reveal the biological functions of the SiCYP450 family in development regulation and stress response and provide a basis for molecular breeding of foxtail millet.

BACKGROUND: Formin-binding protein 1/17 (FNBP1/FBP17), as a membrane-bound protein, is wildly expressed in eukaryotic cells and performs a critical role in tumor tumorigenesis and progression. However, the relationship between FNBP1 and immune infiltrating cells, prognostic value in patients still require comprehensive understanding. We purposed to explore the correlations of FNBP1 expression, prognosis and immune infiltration levels in various cancers. METHOD: The expression and survival data of FNBP1 were collected from Oncomine, TIMER, GEPIA, Kaplan-Meier Plotter and PrognoScan databases. Correlations between FNBP1 and immune infiltrates were analyzed in TIMER and GEPIA databases. RESULTS: Compared with normal tissues, FNBP1 is significantly differentially expressed in a variety of tumor tissues. FNBP1 has significant and complex effects on the prognosis of kinds of cancers. High-expression was obviously correlated with better prognosis in breast carcinoma and lung adenocarcinoma, while worse prognosis in stomach adenocarcinoma. Besides, FNBP1 had a correlation with various immune infiltrating cells and diverse immune gene markers in breast invasive carcinoma (BRCA), lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), and stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD). FNBP1 was also positively correlated with the adjustment of CD8+ cells, T cells, M2 macrophage, neutrophils, monocyte, Th1 cells, T regulatory cells (Treg) and Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs). The expression level of FNBP1 is closely positively correlated with the expression level of multiple immune checkpoints in the three cancers. In addition, FNBP1 is significantly positively correlated with the expression levels of a variety of immunosuppressive molecules. CONCLUSION: Our findings reveal FNBP1 can serve as a significant biomarker to influence the prognosis and the immune infiltrating levels in different cancers. The differential expression of FNBP1 might not only contribute to the judgment of metastatic and non-metastatic tumors but also in the immune escape by upregulating the expression of immune checkpoints.

RESUMEN

Effective utilization of solar energy in battery systems is a promising solution to achieve sustainable and green development. In this work, a photoassisted Fe-air battery (PFAB) with two photoelectrodes of ZnO-TiO2 heterostructure and polyterthiophene (pTTh)-coated CuO (pTTh-CuO) grown on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) is proposed. The band structure of semiconductors and the charge-transfer mechanism of heterostructure are studied. The electrochemical results show that the photogenerated electrons and holes play key roles in reducing the oxygen evolution reaction (OER)/oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) overpotential in the discharging and charging processes, respectively. The short-circuit current density, the open-circuit voltage, and the maximum power output of the PFAB can reach 34.28 mA cm-2 , 1.15 V, and 5.69 mW cm-2 upon illumination, respectively. The photoassisted Fe-air battery exhibits a low charge voltage of 0.64 V for ZnO-TiO2 as photoelectrode and a discharge voltage of 1.38 V for pTTh-CuO as a photoelectrode at 0.1 mA cm-2 .

RESUMEN

Herein, a BiOCl hydrogel film electrode featuring excellent photocorrosion and regeneration properties acts as the anode to construct a novel type of smart solar-metal-air batteries (SMABs), which combines the characteristics of solar cells (direct photovoltaic conversion) and metal-air batteries (electric energy storage and release interacting with atmosphere). The cyclic photocorrosion processes between BiOCl (Bi3+ ) and Bi can simply be achieved by solar light illumination and standing in the dark. Upon illumination, the device takes open-circuit configuration to charge itself from the sunlight. Notably, in this system, the converted solar energy can be stored in the SMABs without the need of external assistance. In the discharging process in the dark, Bi0 spontaneously turns back to Bi3+ producing electrons to induce the oxygen reduction reaction. With an illumination of 15 min, the battery with an electrode area of 1 cm2 can be continuously discharged for ≈3000 s. Taking elemental Bi as the calculation object, the theoretical capacity of the SMABs is 384.75 mAh g-1 , showing its potential application in energy storage. This novel type of SMABs is developed based on the unique photocorrosive and self-oxidation reaction of BiOCl to achieve photochemical energy generation and storage.
