RESUMEN

Chloroplasts are organelles responsible for photosynthesis in plants, providing energy for growth and development. However, the genetic regulatory mechanisms underlying early chloroplast development in rice remain incompletely understood. In this study, we identified a rice seedling thermosensitive chlorophyll-deficient mutant, osltsa8, and the genetic analysis of two F2 populations suggested that this trait may be controlled by more than one pair of alleles. Through reciprocal F2 populations and QTL-seq technology, OsLTSA8 was mapped to the interval of 24,280,402-25,920,942 bp on rice chromosome 8, representing a novel albino gene in rice. Within the candidate gene region of OsLTSA8, there were 258 predicted genes, among which LOC_Os08g39050, LOC_Os08g39130, and LOC_Os08g40870 encode pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) proteins. RNA-seq identified 18 DEGs (differentially expressed genes) within the candidate interval, with LOC_Os08g39420 showing homology to the pigment biosynthesis-related genes Zm00001d017656 and Sb01g000470; LOC_Os08g39430 and LOC_Os08g39850 were implicated in chlorophyll precursor synthesis. RT-qPCR was employed to assess the expression levels of LOC_Os08g39050, LOC_Os08g39130, LOC_Os08g40870, LOC_Os08g39420, LOC_Os08g39430, and LOC_Os08g39850 in the wild-type and mutant plants. Among them, the differences in the expression levels of LOC_Os08g39050 and LOC_Os08g39430 were the most significant. This study will contribute to further elucidating the molecular mechanisms of rice chloroplast development.

RESUMEN

First-principles calculations based on density functional theory have been performed for exploring the structural and electronic properties of Bi-doped Hg0.75Cd0.25Te (MCT), using the state-of-the-art computational method with the Heyd-Scuseria-Ernzerhof (HSE) of hybrid functional to correct the band gap. Structural relaxations, charge densities, electron localization functions (ELFs), density of states (DOSs), band structures, and band decomposed charge density were obtained to reveal the amphoteric behavior of Bi in Hg0.75Cd0.25Te. The bonding characteristics between Bi and host atoms were discussed by analyzing charge densities and ELFs. The influence of Bi impurity on the electronic structure of Bi-doped Hg0.75Cd0.25Te was also analyzed by the calculated DOSs, band structures, and the band decomposed charge density of the defect band. It has been demonstrated that Bi can show a typical amphoteric substitution effect of group V elements.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND/AIMS: This study investigated the radioprotective properties of three classes of CpG-oligodeoxynucleotides (CpG-ODNs) and the underlying mechanisms. METHODS: Mice irradiated at different doses(7Gy or 9Gy) were treated with or without ODNs(50µg via intraperitoneal injection). Assays were performed to determine survival rate and the number of white blood cell in peripheral blood. The levels of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor(G-CSF), interleukin 6(IL-6) and interferon-α (IFN-α) were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS: Survival rate of mice irradiated in 7Gy was increased from 50% to about 100% with ODNs pretreatment. ODNs administration increased the number of WBCs of irradiated mice. G-CSF, IL-6 and IFN-α levels were up-regulated with ODNs treatment. CONCLUSION: All three classes of ODNs protected mice from irradiation-induced injuries. B-class ODNs exhibited the most potent radioprotective property via the up-regulation of G-CSF and IL-6.
