RESUMEN

A series of twisted N,N-linked benzo[ghi]-perylenetriimide dimers (t-BPTI) with various lengths of the α-branched alkyl side chain at the six-membered imide ring position was designed, synthesized, and characterized. These compounds showed the low-lying LUMO energy level of -3.78 eV, which was similar to that of PC61 BM (-3.71 eV), but with intensive optical absorption in the range 350-500 nm. The twisted molecular geometry with two nearly perpendicular BPTI planes achieved a favorable nanoscale phase separation by relieving the self-aggregation of rigid BPTI units in blend films. The acceptor t-BPTI-3 unit with the longest alkyl side chains has been demonstrated to be an efficient electron acceptor in solution-processed bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaics (OPV), giving a power conversion efficiency of 3.68 % when using conjugated polymer PTB7-Th as the donor and without additional treatments.

RESUMEN

RATIONALE: Plasma cell-rich acute rejection (PCAR), a subtype of T cell-mediated rejection, is a relatively rare type of acute allograft rejection, that is usually associated with a higher rate of graft failure. However, it is difficult to diagnose PCAR precisely. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 45-year-old woman who had received a kidney transplant presented with acute kidney injury and uremic symptoms approximately 1 year after transplantation. DIAGNOSIS: A renal biopsy was performed and pathological examination revealed marked inflammation with abundant plasma cells in areas within interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy. The patient was diagnosed with PCAR and chronic active T cell-mediated rejection (CA-TCMR) grade IA. INTERVENTIONS: Immunosuppressants were administered as tacrolimus (2 mg twice daily), mycophenolate mofetil (250 mg twice daily), and prednisolone (15 mg/day) for suspected PCAR. OUTCOMES: The patients showed rapid deterioration in kidney function and reached impending graft failure. LESSONS: PCAR is often associated with poor graft outcome. The high variability in tacrolimus levels could contribute to poor patient outcomes, leaving aggressive immunosuppressive therapy as the remaining choice for PCAR treatment.

RESUMEN

We have demonstrated two novel donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) hole-transport material (HTM) with spiro[fluorene-9,9'-phenanthren-10'-one] as the core structure, which can be synthesized through a low-cost process in high yield. Compared to the incorporation of the conventional HTM of commonly used 2,2',7,7'-tetrakis[N,N-di(4-methoxyphenyl)amino]-9,9'-spirobifluorene (Spiro-OMeTAD), the synthesis process is greatly simplified for the presented D-A-D materials, including a minimum number of purification processes. This results in an increased production yield (>55 %) and suppressed production cost (<30 $ g-1 ), in addition to high power conversion efficiency (PCE) in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The PCE of a PSC using our D-A-D HTM reaches 16.06 %, similar to that of Spiro-OMeTAD (16.08 %), which is attributed to comparable hole mobility and charge-transfer efficiency. D-A-D HTMs also provide better moisture resistivity to prolong the lifetime of PSCs under ambient conditions relative to their Spiro-OMeTAD counterparts. The proposed new type of D-A-D HTM has shown promising performance as an alternative HTM for PSCs and can be synthesized with high production throughput.
