RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Women living with mental health conditions may not have shared in improvements in breast cancer screening and care. No studies have directly examined the link between reduced screening participation and breast cancer spread in women using mental health (MH) services. METHODS: Population-wide linkage of a population cancer register, BreastScreen register, and mental health service data set in women aged 50 to 74 years in New South Wales, Australia, from 2008 to 2017. Incident invasive breast cancers were identified. Predictors of degree of spread (local, regional, metastatic) at diagnosis were examined using partial proportional odds regression, adjusting for age, socioeconomic status, rurality, and patterns of screening participation. RESULTS: A total of 29 966 incident cancers were identified and included 686 (2.4%) in women with MH service before cancer diagnoses. More than half of MH service users had regional or metastatic spread at diagnosis (adjusted odds ratio, 1.63; 95% CI, 1.41-1.89). MH service users had lower screening participation; however, advanced cancer was more common even when adjusting for screening status (adjusted odds ratio, 1.53; 95% CI, 1.32-1.77). Advanced cancer was more common in women with severe or persistent MH conditions. CONCLUSIONS: Low screening participation rates explain only small part of the risk of more advanced breast cancer in women who use MH services. More study is needed to understand possible mechanisms contributing to more advanced breast cancer in women living with MH conditions. Health systems need strategies to ensure that women living with MH conditions enjoy population gains in breast cancer outcomes.

RESUMEN

We report a new nickel hydroxyfluoride diaspore Ni(OH)F prepared using hydrothermal synthesis from NiCl2·6H2O and NaF. Magnetic characterization reveals that, contrary to other reported transition-metal hydroxyfluoride diaspores, Ni(OH)F displays weak ferromagnetism below the magnetic ordering temperature. To understand this difference, neutron diffraction is used to determine the long-range magnetic structure. The magnetic structure is found to be distinct from those reported for other hydroxyfluoride diaspores and shows an antiferromagnetic spin ordering in which ferromagnetic canting is allowed by symmetry. Furthermore, neutron powder diffraction on a deuterated sample, Ni(OD)F, reveals partial anion ordering that is distinctive to what has previously been reported for Co(OH)F and Fe(OH)F. Density functional theory calculations show that OH/F ordering can have a directing influence on the lowest energy magnetic ground state. Our results point toward a subtle interplay between the sign of magnetic exchange interactions, the electronic configuration, and anion disordering.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic ventricular fibrillation (IVF) is mainly associated with and triggered by short-coupled (R-on-T) ventricular ectopics. However, little is known about the risk of VF associated with long-coupled premature ventricular complexes (LCPVCs). OBJECTIVE: To examine the prevalence and characteristics of IVF patients presenting with LCPVCs. METHODS: Consecutive patients with IVF and PVCs from five arrhythmia referral centers were reviewed. We included patients presenting LCPVCs, defined as PVCs falling after the end of the T wave, with a normal QTc interval. We evaluated demographics, medical history, and clinical circumstances associated with PVCs and VF episodes. The origin of PVCs was determined by invasive mapping. RESULTS: Seventy-nine patients with IVF were reviewed. Among them, 12 (15.2%) met the inclusion criteria (8 women, age 36 ± 14 years). Eleven patients had documented LCPVCs initiating repetitive PVCs or sustained VF, whereas 1 had only documented isolated PVCs. In 10 of 12 patients, PVCs were recorded showing both long and short coupling intervals of 418 ± 46 and 304 ± 33 ms, respectively. Mapping showed that PVCs originated from the left Purkinje in 10 patients, from the right Purkinje in 1 patient, and both in 1 patient. Compared to other patients from the initial cohort, IVF with LCPVCs was associated with a left-sided origin of PVCs (92% in long-coupled IVF vs. 46% of left Purkinje PVCs in short-coupled IVF, p = .004). CONCLUSION: Long-coupled fascicular PVCs, traditionally recognized as benign, can be associated with IVF in a subset of patients. They can induce IVF by themselves or in association with short-coupled PVCs.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: While the microstructure of the left ventricle (LV) has been largely described, only a few studies investigated the right ventricular insertion point (RVIP). It was accepted that the aggregate cardiomyocytes organization was much more complex due to the intersection of the ventricular cavities but a precise structural characterization in the human heart was lacking even if clinical phenotypes related to right ventricular wall stress or arrhythmia were observed in this region. METHODS: MRI-derived anatomical imaging (150 µm3) and diffusion tensor imaging (600 µm3) were performed in large mammalian whole hearts (human: N = 5, sheep: N = 5). Fractional anisotropy, aggregate cardiomyocytes orientations and tractography were compared within both species. Aggregate cardiomyocytes orientation on one ex-vivo sheep whole heart was then computed using structure tensor imaging (STI) from 21 µm isotropic acquisition acquired with micro computed tomography (MicroCT) imaging. Macroscopic and histological examination were performed. Lastly, experimental cardiomyocytes orientation distribution was then compared to the usual rule-based model using electrophysiological (EP) modeling. Electrical activity was modeled with the monodomain formulation. RESULTS: The RVIP at the level of the inferior ventricular septum presented a unique arrangement of aggregate cardiomyocytes. An abrupt, mid-myocardial change in cardiomyocytes orientation was observed, delimiting a triangle-shaped region, present in both sheep and human hearts. FA's histogram distribution (mean ± std: 0.29 ± 0.06) of the identified region as well as the main dimension (22.2 mm ± 5.6 mm) was found homogeneous across samples and species. Averaged volume is 0.34 cm3 ± 0.15 cm3. Both local activation time (LAT) and morphology of pseudo-ECGs were strongly impacted with delayed LAT and change in peak-to-peak amplitude in the simulated wedge model. CONCLUSION: The study was the first to describe the 3D cardiomyocytes architecture of the basal inferoseptal left ventricle region in human hearts and identify the presence of a well-organized aggregate cardiomyocytes arrangement and cardiac structural discontinuities. The results might offer a better appreciation of clinical phenotypes like RVIP-late gadolinium enhancement or uncommon idiopathic ventricular arrhythmias (VA) originating from this region.

RESUMEN

The crystallization of a new series of A-site substituted lanthanum ferrite materials (La1-xREx)FeO3 was explored by the hydrothermal method at 240 °C, for rare earth (RE) = Nd, Sm, Gd, Ho, Er, Yb, and Y, with 0 ≤ x ≤ 1. The effect of elemental substitution on the morphological, structural, and magnetic properties of the materials was studied using high-resolution powder X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) on the scanning electron microscope, Raman spectroscopy, and SQUID magnetometry. If the radius of the La3+ and the substituent ions is similar, such as for Nd3+, Sm3+, and Gd3+, homogeneous solid solutions are formed, with the orthorhombic GdFeO3-type structure, and a continuous evolution of Raman spectra with composition and distinct magnetic behavior from the end members. When the radius difference between substituents and La3+ is large, such as for Ho3+, Er3+, Yb3+, and Y3+, then instead of forming solid solutions, crystallization in separate phases is found. However, low levels of element mixing are found and intergrowths of segregated regions give composite particles. In this case, the Raman spectra and magnetic behavior are characteristic of mixtures of phases, while EDS shows distinctive elemental segregation. A-site replacement induces an evolution in the crystallite shape with an increasing amount of substituent ions and this is most evident for RE = Y from cube-shaped crystals seen for LaFeO3 to multipodal crystals for (La1-xYx)FeO3, providing evidence for a phase-separation-driven evolution of morphology.

RESUMEN

Terbium-doped YVO4 has been considered a nonluminescent solid since the first classic studies on rare-earth-doped phosphors in the 1960s. However, we demonstrate that defect engineering of YVO4:Tb3+ nanoparticles overcomes the metal-metal charge transfer (MMCT) process which is responsible for the quenching of the Tb3+ luminescence. Tetragonal (Y1-xTbx)VO4 nanoparticles obtained by colloidal precipitation showed expanded unit cells, high defect densities, and intimately mixed carbonates and hydroxides, which contribute to a shift of the MMCT states to higher energies. Consequently, we demonstrate unambiguously for the first time that Tb3+ luminescence can be excited by VO43- → Tb3+ energy transfer and by direct population of the 5D4 state in YVO4. We also discuss how thermal treatment removes these effects and shifts the quenching MMCT state to lower energies, thus highlighting the major consequences of defect density and microstructure in nanosized phosphors. Therefore, our findings ultimately show nanostructured YVO4:Tb3+ can be reclassified as a UV-excitable luminescent material.

RESUMEN

Eastern North American monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus) embark on a yearly migration between summer breeding grounds in the northern United States and southern Canada and overwintering sites in central Mexico, traveling up to 4300 km. This annual multi-generational migration cycle, like many seasonal natural phenomena, may be impacted by recent changes in climate and habitat. We investigated long-term trends in monarch abundance and fall migration timing over a 29-year period in Cape May, New Jersey, using data collected from daily population surveys designed to track patterns of occurrence during the fall migration period through Cape May (1 Sept-31 Oct). Between 1992 and 2020, the migration midpoint, average peak migration day and first peak migration day shifted between 16 and 19 days later in the season, an average of approximately six days per decade. This observed shift in migration timing is correlated with increasing temperatures in September and October in northeastern monarch breeding grounds over the study period. Our data do not demonstrate a significant directional trend in monarch abundance over the study period, yet population data collected at overwintering sites in Mexico indicate a substantial decline over the same period. Further postponement of fall migration may lead to lower migration success and exacerbate the overall decline of this iconic species.

RESUMEN

The yttrium organic framework (Y0.89 Tb0.10 Eu0.01 )6 (BDC)7 (OH)4 (H2 O)4 (BDC=benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate) is hydrothermally stable up to at least 513 K and thermally stable in air in excess of 673 K. The relative intensities of luminescence of Tb3+ and Eu3+ are governed by Tb3+ -to-Eu3+ phonon-assisted energy transfer and Tb3+ -to-ligand back transfer and are responsible for the differing temperature-dependent luminescence of the two ions. This provides a ratiometric luminescent thermometer in the 288-573 K temperature range, not previously seen for MOF materials, with a high sensitivity, 1.69±0.04 % K-1 at 523 K. In aqueous conditions, loosely bound H2 O can be replaced by D2 O in the same material, which modifies decay lifetimes to yield a quantitative luminescent D2 O sensor with a useful sensitivity for practical application.

RESUMEN

CO2 epoxidation to cyclic carbonates under mild, solvent-free conditions is a promising pathway toward sustainable CO2 utilization. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) explored for such applications so far are commonly composed of nonrenewable ligands such as benzene dicarboxylate (BDC) or synthetically complex linkers and therefore are not suitable for commercial utilization. Here, we report new yttrium 2,5-furandicarboxylate (FDC)-based MOFs: "UOW-1" and "UOW-2" synthesized via solvothermal assembly, with the former having a unique structural topology. The FDC linker can be derived from biomass and is a green and sustainable alternative to conventionally used BDC ligands, which are sourced exclusively from fossil fuels. UOW-1, owing to unique coordination unsaturation and a high density of Lewis active sites, promotes a high catalytic activity (∼100% conversion; ∼99% selectivity), a high turnover frequency (70 h-1), and favorable first-order kinetics for CO2 epoxidation reactions using an epichlorohydrin model substrate under solvent-free conditions within 6 h and a minimal cocatalyst amount. A systematic catalytic study was carried out by broadening the epoxide substrate scope to determine the influence of electronic and steric factors on CO2 epoxidation. Accordingly, higher conversion efficiencies were observed for substrates with high electrophilicity on the carbon center and minimal steric bulk. The work presents the first demonstration of sustainable FDC-based MOFs used for efficient CO2 utilization.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality of all gynaecological cancers. This study aimed to identify the extent to which women across New South Wales experienced variation in their care in diagnosis and initial treatment for ovarian cancer against the national optimal care pathway for ovarian cancer. METHOD: Clinical audit methodology was utilised to explore variations for women with primary ovarian cancer; 171 eligible cases were identified through by the NSW Cancer Registry for the period of 1 March 2017 to 28 February 2018. RESULTS: Limited variation was detected with 86% of women being reviewed by a specialist gynaecological oncology multidisciplinary team; 54% of women received their first treatment within 28 days of their first specialist appointment, 66% of women having their first surgery completed by a gynaecological oncologist and 45% of women received their first treatment in a specialist gynaecological oncology hospital. CONCLUSION: Deviation from effective ovarian cancer care is apparent particularly in the location and timeliness of first treatment, with implications for the quality of care received and care outcomes. Understanding factors that contribute to variation is critical to ensure optimal and appropriate ovarian cancer care and to tackle systemic barriers to the provision of effective care.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: We investigate the possibility to exploit high-field MRI to acquire 3D images of Purkinje network which plays a crucial role in cardiac function. Since Purkinje fibers (PF) have a distinct cellular structure and are surrounded by connective tissue, we investigated conventional contrast mechanisms along with the magnetization transfer (MT) imaging technique to improve image contrast between ventricular structures of differing macromolecular content. METHODS: Three fixed porcine ventricular samples were used with free-running PFs on the endocardium. T1, T2*, T2, and M0 were evaluated on 2D slices for each sample at 9.4 T. MT parameters were optimized using hard pulses with different amplitudes, offset frequencies and durations. The cardiac structure was assessed through 2D and 3D T1w images with isotropic resolutions of 150 µm. Histology, immunofluorescence, and qPCR were performed to analyze collagen contents of cardiac tissue and PF. RESULTS: An MT preparation module of 350 ms duration inserted into the sequence with a B1 = 10 µT and frequency offset = 3000 Hz showed the best contrast, approximately 0.4 between PFs and myocardium. Magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) appeared higher in the cardiac tissue (MTR = 44.7 ± 3.5%) than in the PFs (MTR = 25.2 ± 6.3%). DISCUSSION: MT significantly improves contrast between PFs and ventricular myocardium and appears promising for imaging the 3D architecture of the Purkinje network.

RESUMEN

Perovskite oxides with general composition ABO3 are a large group of inorganic materials that can contain a variety of cations from all parts of the Periodic Table and that have diverse properties of application in fields ranging from electronics, energy storage to photocatalysis. Solvothermal synthesis routes to these materials have become increasingly investigated in the past decade as a means of direct crystallisation of the solids from solution. These methods have significant advantages leading to adjustment of crystal form from the nanoscale to the micron-scale, the isolation of compositions not possible using conventional solid-state synthesis and in addition may lead to scalable processes for producing materials at moderate temperatures. These aspects are reviewed, with examples taken from the past decade's literature on the solvothermal synthesis of perovskites with a systematic survey of B-site cations, from transition metals in Groups 4-8 and main group elements in Groups 13, 14 and 15, to solid solutions and heterostructures. As well as hydrothermal reactions, the use of various solvents and solution additives are discussed and some trends identified, along with prospects for developing control and predictability in the crystallisation of complex oxide materials.

RESUMEN

Dramatic declines in diurnal pollinators have created great scientific interest in plant-pollinator relationships and associated pollination services. Existing literature, however, is generally focused on diurnal pollinating insect taxa, especially on Apidae (Hymenoptera) and Syrphidae (Diptera) pollinators, while nocturnal macro-moths that comprise extremely species-rich flower-visiting families have been largely neglected. Here, we report that in agricultural landscapes, macro-moths can provide unique, highly complex pollen transport links, making them vital components of overall wild plant-pollinator networks in agro-ecosystems. Pollen transport occurred more frequently on the moths' ventral thorax rather than on their mouthparts that have been traditionally targeted for pollen swabbing. Pollen transport loads suggest that nocturnal moths contribute key pollination services for several wild plant families in agricultural landscapes, in addition to providing functional resilience to diurnal networks. Severe declines in richness and abundance of settling moth populations highlight the urgent need to include them in future management and conservation strategies within agricultural landscapes.

RESUMEN

The synthesis of a new solid solution of the oxyhydroxide Ga5-xAlxO7(OH) is investigated via solvothermal reaction between gallium acetylacetonate and aluminum isopropoxide in 1,4-butanediol at 240 °C. A limited compositional range of 0 ≤ x ≤ 1.5 is produced, with the hexagonal unit cell parameters refined from powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) showing a linear contraction in unit cell volume with an increase in Al content. Solid-state 27Al and 71Ga nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies show a strong preference for Ga to occupy the tetrahedral sites and Al to occupy the octahedral sites. Using isopropanol as the solvent, γ-Ga2-xAlxO3 defect spinel solid solutions with x ≤ 1.8 can be prepared at 240 °C in 24 h. These materials are nanocrystalline, as evidenced by their broad diffraction profiles; however, the refined cubic lattice parameter shows a linear relationship with the Ga:Al content, and solid-state NMR spectroscopy again shows a preference for Al to occupy the octahedral sites. Thermal decomposition of Ga5-xAlxO7(OH) occurs via poorly ordered materials that resemble ε-Ga2-xAlxO3 and κ-Ga2-xAlxO3, but γ-Ga2-xAlxO3 transforms above 750 °C to monoclinic ß-Ga2-xAlxO3 for 0 ≤ x ≤ 1.3 and to hexagonal α-Ga2-xAlxO3 for x = 1.8, with intermediate compositions of 1.3 < x < 1.8 giving mixtures of the α- and ß-polymorphs. Solid-state NMR spectroscopy shows only the expected octahedral Al for α-Ga2-xAlxO3, and for ß-Ga2-xAlxO3, the ∼1:2 tetrahedral:octahedral Al ratio is in good agreement with the results of Rietveld analysis of the average structures against powder XRD data. Relative energies calculated by periodic density functional theory confirm that there is an ∼5.2 kJ mol-1 penalty for tetrahedral rather than octahedral Al in Ga5-xAlxO7(OH), whereas this penalty is much smaller (∼2.0 kJ mol-1) for ß-Ga2-xAlxO3, in good qualitative agreement with the experimental NMR spectra.

RESUMEN

We present an NMR crystallographic investigation of two as-made forms of the recently characterized gallophosphate GaPO-34A, which has an unusual framework composition with a Ga:P ratio of 7:6 and contains both hydroxide and fluoride anions and either 1-methylimidazolium or pyridinium as the structure-directing agent. We combine previously reported X-ray crystallographic data with solid-state NMR spectroscopy and periodic density functional theory (DFT) calculations to show that the structure contains at least three distinct types of disorder (occupational, compositional, and dynamic). The occupational disorder arises from the presence of six anion sites per unit cell, but a total occupancy of five of these, leading to full occupancy of four sites and partial occupancy of the fifth and sixth (which are related by symmetry). The mixture of OH and F present leads to compositional disorder on the occupied anion sites, although the occupancy of some sites by F is calculated to be energetically unfavorable and signals relating to F on these sites are not observed by NMR spectroscopy, confirming that the compositional disorder is not random. Finally, a combination of high-field 71Ga NMR spectroscopy and variable-temperature 13C and 31P NMR experiments shows that the structure directing agents are dynamic on the microsecond time scale, which can be supported by averaging the 31P chemical shifts calculated with the SDA in different orientations. This demonstrates the value of an NMR crystallographic approach, particularly in the case of highly disordered crystalline materials, where the growth of large single crystals for conventional structure determination may not be possible owing to the extent of disorder present.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is an uncommon bullous disease typically involving the oral cavity. The most commonly used laboratory test for the diagnosis of MMP is direct immunofluorescence (DIF) on fresh perilesional tissue; however, the sensitivity of this test may be hampered by technical difficulties. Immune-serological investigations can also be employed to render a diagnosis. The purpose of this paper was to present an evaluation of diagnostic testing for MMP within an Oral Medicine Unit in UK. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of the medical records was undertaken for patients who had undergone biopsy and DIF testing from January 2016 to December 2018. Parameters analysed included clinical presentation, histopathological features, DIF, salt-split skin indirect immunofluorescence, ELISA anti-BP180 and BP 230 and HLA-DQB1*03:01 findings. RESULTS: Thirty patients (23 females and 7 males, mean age 66.8 years old) were diagnosed with MMP through a combination of histopathology and serological testing. Sixteen patients (53%) were DIF positive, whereas in 14 (47%), MMP diagnosis was achieved using immune-serologic tests. HLA DQB1*03:01 status was undertaken in 15 DIF-positive and 12 DIF-negative patients, and HLA DQB1*03:01 was found in 73% and 58% of the cases, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: This service evaluation has shown that when DIF is informative, it remains the gold standard technique for diagnosis of MMP. However, we have also highlighted the value of serological testing for increasing diagnostic yield for patients with suspected MMP and the potential for HLA DQB1*03:01 as an adjunctive test for the evaluation of MMP.

RESUMEN

Pyrochlore iridates (Na,Ca)2-xIr2O6·H2O are acid-stable electrocatalysts that are candidates for use in electrolysers and fuel cells. Ir LIII-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy in 1 M H2SO4 at oxygen evolution conditions suggests the involvement of the electrons from the conduction band of the metallic particles, rather than just surface iridium reacting.

RESUMEN

An NMR crystallography analysis is presented for four solid-state structures of pyridine fumarates and their cocrystals, using crystal structures deposited in the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre, CCDC. Experimental one-dimensional one-pulse 1H and 13C cross-polarisation (CP) magic-angle spinning (MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and two-dimensional 14N-1H heteronuclear multiple-quantum coherence MAS NMR spectra are compared with gauge-including projector augmented wave (GIPAW) calculations of the 1H and 13C chemical shifts and the 14N shifts that additionally depend on the quadrupolar interaction. Considering the high ppm (>10 â€‹ppm) 1H resonances, while there is good agreement (within 0.4 â€‹ppm) between experiment and GIPAW calculation for the hydrogen-bonded NH moieties, the hydrogen-bonded fumaric acid OH resonances are 1.2-1.9 â€‹ppm higher in GIPAW calculation as compared to experiment. For the cocrystals of a salt and a salt formed by 2-amino-5-methylpyridinium and 2-amino-6-methylpyridinium ions, a large discrepancy of 4.2 and 5.9 â€‹ppm between experiment and GIPAW calculation is observed for the quaternary ring carbon 13C resonance that is directly bonded to two nitrogens (in the ring and in the amino group). By comparison, there is excellent agreement (within 0.2 â€‹ppm) for the quaternary ring carbon 13C resonance directly bonded to the ring nitrogen for the salt and cocrystal of a salt formed by 2,6-lutidinium and 2,5-lutidinium, respectively.

RESUMEN

Single-crystal X-ray diffraction structures of the 5-amino-2-methylpyridinium hydrogen fumarate salt have been solved at 150 and 300 K (CCDC 1952142 and 1952143). A base-acid-base-acid ring is formed through pyridinium-carboxylate and amine-carboxylate hydrogen bonds that hold together chains formed from hydrogen-bonded hydrogen fumarate ions. 1 H and 13 C chemical shifts as well as 14 N shifts that additionally depend on the quadrupolar interaction are determined by experimental magic angle spinning (MAS) solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and gauge-including projector-augmented wave (GIPAW) calculation. Two-dimensional homonuclear 1 H-1 H double-quantum (DQ) MAS and heteronuclear 1 H-13 C and 14 N-1 H spectra are presented. Only small differences of up to 0.1 and 0.6 ppm for 1 H and 13 C are observed between GIPAW calculations starting with the two structures solved at 150 and 300 K (after geometry optimisation of atomic positions, but not unit cell parameters). A comparison of GIPAW-calculated 1 H chemical shifts for isolated molecules and the full crystal structures is indicative of hydrogen bonding strength.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the delivery of surgical services and outcomes for women with ovarian cancer across New South Wales (NSW). AIM: The study objective was to provide a descriptive analysis of the proportion of women who had surgery for ovarian cancer in NSW in specialist gynaecological oncology hospitals and compare outcomes for women attending specialist and non-specialist services in NSW. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study is a retrospective analysis of women with primary ovarian, fallopian tube or peritoneal cancer from 2009 to 2012. Data were analysed from the NSW Cancer Registry, NSW Admitted Patient Data Collection and Register of Births Deaths and Marriages. Treating hospitals were characterised as public specialist, public non-specialist and private. Morbidity and mortality outcomes are reported. RESULTS: The study included 1106 women. Fifty-seven hospitals performed surgery: seven public specialist, 27 private and 23 public non-specialist hospitals. The highest proportion of surgery was performed in public specialist hospitals (61%). There was considerable variation in the utilisation of public specialist hospitals between local health districts. There was no significant difference in outcomes related to the type of hospital where surgery was performed. CONCLUSIONS: Although the majority of women are having surgery in a specialist gynaecological oncology public hospital across NSW, many are not. Women living in regional and remote NSW were less likely to have their surgery in a specialist hospital. This is the first step in understanding where women in NSW are currently receiving their surgical care, as well as the outcomes related to this.
