RESUMEN

Two-dimensional materials have emerged as an important research frontier for overcoming the challenges in nanoelectronics and for exploring new physics. Among them, black phosphorus, with a combination of a tunable bandgap and high mobility, is one of the most promising systems. In particular, black phosphorus nanoribbons show excellent electrostatic gate control, which can mitigate short-channel effects in nanoscale transistors. Controlled synthesis of black phosphorus nanoribbons, however, has remained an outstanding problem. Here we report large-area growth of black phosphorus nanoribbons directly on insulating substrates. We seed the chemical vapour transport growth with black phosphorus nanoparticles and obtain uniform, single-crystal nanoribbons oriented exclusively along the [100] crystal direction. With comprehensive structural calculations, we discover that self-passivation at the zigzag edges holds the key to the preferential one-dimensional growth. Field-effect transistors based on individual nanoribbons exhibit on/off ratios up to ~104, confirming the good semiconducting behaviour of the nanoribbons. These results demonstrate the potential of black phosphorus nanoribbons for nanoelectronic devices and also provide a platform for investigating the exotic physics in black phosphorus.

RESUMEN

Structural variations (SVs) are critical factors affecting genome evolution and important traits. However, identification results and functional analyses of SVs in upland cotton are rare. Here, based on the genetic relationships, breeding history and cumulative planting area of upland cotton in China, nine predominant cultivars from the past 60 years (1950s-2010s) were selected for long read sequencing to uncover genic variations and breeding improvement targets for this crop. Based on the ZM24 reference genome, 0.88-1.47 × 104 SVs per cultivar were identified, and an SV set was constructed. SVs affected the expression of a large number of genes during fiber elongation, and a transposable element insertion resulted in the glandless phenotype in upland cotton. Six widespread inversions were identified based on nine draft genomes and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture data. Multiple haplotype blocks that were always associated with aggregated SVs were demonstrated to play a pivotal role in the agronomic traits of upland cotton and drove its adaptation to the northern planting region. Exotic introgression was the source of these haplotype blocks and increased the genetic diversity of upland cotton. Our results enrich the genome resources of upland cotton, and the identified SVs will promote genetic and breeding research in cotton.

RESUMEN

Waste biomass is one of the promising feedstocks to supply syngas that can be used as fuels, chemicals, reductants, etc. However, the relationship between the component of biomass and the constituent of pyrolysis gas remains unclear. Here, we study the pyrolysis behaviors of various biomasses and reveal the relationship between the biomass components and gas compositions. Further, different pyrolysis gases are applied for the reduction of spent lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2) below 500 °C. The pyrolysis gas with a higher concentration of CO has a higher reductivity to convert LiCoO2 to CoO and Li2CO3 with a conversion rate close to 100% in 1 h at 500 °C. The biomass rich in cellulose and with a lower content of lignin tends to produce pyrolysis gas with a high concentration of CO, which comes from the deliberate breakdown of carboxyl, carbonyl, ether, and ester linkages. Moreover, LiCoO2 exerts catalytic functions over the deoxygenation and enhancement of oxygenates and single-ring aromatics. Overall, this paper offers a tailored approach to regulating biomass pyrolysis gases, enabling highly efficient battery recycling and syngas production.

RESUMEN

Reactive metals hydrolysis offers significant advantages for hydrogen storage and production. However, the regeneration of common reactive metals (e.g., Mg, Al, etc.) is energy-intensive and produces unwanted byproducts such as CO2 and Cl2. Herein, we employ Zn as a reactive mediator that can be easily regenerated by electrolysis of ZnO in an alkaline solution with a Faradaic efficiency of >99.9 %. H2 is produced in the same electrolyte by constructing a Zn-H2O hydrolysis battery consisting of a Zn anode and a Raney-Ni cathode to unlock the Zn-H2O reaction. The entire two-step water splitting reaction with a net energy efficiency of 70.4 % at 80 °C and 50 mA cm-2. Additionally, the Zn-H2O system can be charged using renewable energy to produce H2 on demand and runs for 600 cycles only sacrificing 3.76 % energy efficiency. DFT calculations reveal that the desorption of H* on Raney-Ni (-0.30 eV) is closer to zero compared with that on Zn (-0.87 eV), indicating a faster desorption of H* at low overpotential. Further, a 24 Ah electrolyzer is demonstrated to produce H2 with a net energy efficiency of 65.5 %, which holds promise for its real application.

RESUMEN

Petal senescence is the final stage of flower development. Transcriptional regulation plays key roles in this process. However, whether and how post-transcriptional regulation involved is still largely unknown. Here, we identified an ethylene-induced NAC family transcription factor DcNAP in carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.). One allele, DcNAP-dTdic1, has an insertion of a dTdic1 transposon in its second exon. The dTdic1 transposon disrupts the structure of DcNAP and causes alternative splicing, which transcribes multiple domain-deleted variants (DcNAP2 and others). Conversely, the wild type allele DcNAP transcribes DcNAP1 encoding an intact NAC domain. Silencing DcNAP1 delays and overexpressing DcNAP1 accelerates petal senescence in carnation, while silencing and overexpressing DcNAP2 have the opposite effects, respectively. Further, DcNAP2 could interact with DcNAP1 and interfere the binding and activation activity of DcNAP1 to the promoters of its downstream target ethylene biosynthesis genes DcACS1 and DcACO1. Lastly, ethylene signalling core transcriptional factor DcEIL3-1 can activate the expression of DcNAP1 and DcNAP2 in the same way by binding their promoters. In summary, we discovered a novel mechanism by which DcNAP regulates carnation petal senescence at the post-transcriptional level. It may also provide a useful strategy to manipulate the NAC domains of NAC transcription factors for crop genetic improvement.

RESUMEN

Hyperglycaemia-induced endothelial dysfunction is a key factor in the pathogenesis of diabetic microangiopathy and macroangiopathy. STING, which is a newly discovered regulator of innate immunity, has also been reported to play an important role in various metabolic diseases. However, the role of STING in diabetes-induced endothelial cell dysfunction is unknown. In this study, we established a diabetic macroangiopathy mouse model by streptozotocin (STZ) injection combined with high-fat diet (HFD) feeding and a glucotoxicity cell model in high glucose (HG)-treated rat aortic endothelial cells (RAECs). We found that STING expression was specifically increased in the endothelial cells of diabetic arteries, as well as in HG-treated RAECs. Moreover, genetic deletion of STING significantly ameliorated diabetes-induced endothelial cell dysfunction and apoptosis in vivo. Likewise, STING inhibition by C-176 reversed HG-induced migration dysfunction and apoptosis in RAECs, whereas STING activation by DMXAA resulted in migration dysfunction and apoptosis. Mechanistically, hyperglycaemia-induced oxidative stress promoted endothelial mitochondrial dysfunction and mtDNA release, which subsequently activated the cGAS-STING system and the cGAS-STING-dependent IRF3/NF-kB pathway, ultimately resulting in inflammation and apoptosis. In conclusion, our study identified a novel role of STING in diabetes-induced aortic endothelial cell injury and suggested that STING inhibition was a potential new therapeutic strategy for the treatment of diabetic macroangiopathy. RESUMEN

Therapeutical monoclonal antibodies are structurally and functionally complex, whereas the innovator's manufacturing processes are proprietary. With respect to the similarity assessment, a proposed biosimilar product needs to demonstrate a side-by-side comparison between the reference product (RP) and candidate product in terms of physicochemical properties and biological activities, as well as nonclinical and clinical outcomes. Here, a comprehensive analytical similarity assessment was performed for in-depth comparison of HLX04, China-sourced Avastin® (CN-Avastin®), and Europe-sourced Avastin® (EU-Avastin®) following a tier-based quality attribute (QA) evaluation. A series of orthogonal and state-of-the-art analytical techniques were developed for the assessment. Ten lots of HLX04 were compared with 29 lots bevacizumab RP. Referred to the characterization results, HLX04 is highly similar to the RPs with respect to physicochemical properties and biological functions. In addition, HLX04 was found with similar stability and degradation behaviors upon multiple stressed conditions to bevacizumab. Minor differences were observed in glycosylation, aggregates, FcγRIIIa(F), and FcγRIIIa(V) binding activities; nevertheless, they were evaluated and demonstrated not to impact clinical outcomes. According to the reported clinical results, the totality of evidence, including the pharmacokinetic, efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity, further shows that HLX04 is similar to CN-/EU-Avastin®.

RESUMEN

Oxidative stress (OS) is a key factor involved in the initiation and development of chronic diseases. Despite its widespread acceptance as an antioxidant, the effects of ginseng on OS in human clinical trials have not been comprehensively analyzed. Therefore, this study aimed to synthesize the results of previous randomized clinical trials (RCTs) examining the impact of ginseng consumption on OS indicators. PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane databases were searched for articles on the effects of ginseng consumption on oxidative stress markers up to March 20, 2023. Standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess effect sizes. Twelve RCTs with 15 effect sizes revealed that the effects of ginseng lowered serum malondialdehyde (MDA) levels (SMD = 0.45, 95% CI: -0.87, -0.08; p = 0.03) and significantly increased the serum total antioxidant capacity (TAC) (SMD = 0.23, 95% CI: 0.01, 0.45; p = 0.04), oxidative dismutase (SOD) (SMD = 0.39, 95% CI: 0.21, 0.57; p < 0.0001), glutathione (GSH) (SMD = 0.36; 95% CI: 0.11, 0.61; p = 0.005), and glutathione reductase (GR) (SMD = 0.56; 95% CI: 0.31, 0.81; p < 0.0001) levels compared to the effects of placebo. However, the effects on serum glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT) were not significant. Moreover, subgroup analysis based on intervention duration showed that ginseng consumption increased GPx (SMD = 0.91, 95% CI: 0.05, 1.78; p = 0.039) and CAT (SMD = 0.74, 95% CI: 0.27, 1.21; p = 0.002) levels after more than 4 weeks of intervention. According to the results of this meta-analysis, ginseng supplementation dramatically reduced MDA levels and increased TAC, SOD, GSH, and GR levels. Our results open up a new line of defense against oxidative stress-induced diseases.

RESUMEN

Transmitting signals independently over each core of a multi-core fiber (MCF) is a candidate technology to cope with the growing demand for communication capacity. However, precise coupling alignment of input light beams and corresponding fiber cores is needed in such communication systems. Here we propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel, to the best of our knowledge, scheme for visualized MCF coupling alignment and inter-core cross talk measurement. The inter-core cross talk matrix of a bent 20-m 5-core fiber is measured in the experiment to show the efficiency of this scheme. Once the setup is established and fixed, the coupled MCF can be replaced at will. Due to the flexibility and simplicity of this scheme, it may possess potential value in MCF-based sensing and optical communication applications.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Chronic low-grade systemic inflammation affects muscle protein metabolism. The dietary inflammatory index (DII®) is a tool designed to assess the inflammatory potential of the diet. The available data on the association between DII and sarcopenia are limited. We aimed to investigate the association of the DII with components of sarcopenia in individuals over 50 years of age. METHODS: This cross-sectional study used the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2002 dataset. Body composition was measured, and isokinetic strength of the knee extensors (peak force) was evaluated. Low muscle mass and strength were defined using sex-specific thresholds. Energy-adjusted DII (E-DII™) scores were calculated using 24-h dietary recall data. Regression models were fit to evaluate the association between E-DII scores and low muscle mass and low muscle strength, alone and combined. RESULTS: Mean age of study participants was 62.1 ± 9.5 years, and 138 participants (7.4%) belonged to the combination group of low muscle mass and low muscle strength. In multivariable-adjusted regression models, higher E-DII score was associated with lower appendicular skeletal muscle index (ASMI) (ß = - 0.03, P  < 0.001, P trend <0.001), and lower peak force (ß = -2.15, P  = 0.04, P trend = 0.01) and higher likelihood for these components combined (OR = 1.12, 95% CI 1.01-1.25, P = 0.03). CONCLUSION: Higher E-DII score is associated with lower muscle mass and muscle strength, and increased likelihood for the combination of low muscle mass and low muscle strength in older adults. This has important implications for healthy aging.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Chemerin is a brand-new adipokine that has been linked to both inflammation and metabolic dysfunction. Even though a rising number of studies have connected chemerin to metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), formerly referred to as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), this association has been controversial. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was undertaken up to February 1, 2022, in the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CNKI, WANFANG, and CBM library databases. Circulating chemerin levels were obtained and summarized using the standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Subgroup and meta-regression analyses were conducted to examine the possibility of heterogeneity. RESULTS: A total of 17 studies involving 2580 participants (1584 MAFLD patients and 996 controls) evaluated circulating chemerin levels in patients with MAFLD. The present study showed that higher chemerin levels were found in patients with MAFLD (SMD: 1.32; 95% CI: 0.29, 2.35) and nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) (SMD: 0.75; 95% CI: 0.01, 1.50) compared to controls. However, circulating chemerin levels did not differ significantly in the following comparisons: nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) patients and controls (SMD: 0.75; 95% CI: -0.52, 2.03); NASH patients and NAFL patients (SMD: 0.16; 95% CI: -0.39, 0.70); moderate to severe steatosis and mild steatosis (SMD: 0.55; 95% CI: -0.59, 1.69); present liver fibrosis and absent liver fibrosis (SMD: 0.66; 95% CI: -0.42, 1.74); present lobular inflammation and absent lobular inflammation (SMD: 0.45; 95% CI: -0.53, 1.42); and present portal inflammation and absent portal inflammation (SMD: 1.92; 95% CI: -0.85, 4.69). CONCLUSIONS: Chemerin levels were considerably greater in patients with MAFLD than in controls, despite the fact that they were not significantly linked to different liver tissue lesions of MAFLD. In different subtypes of MAFLD, in comparison to healthy controls, the chemerin levels of NAFL patients were higher, whereas, there was no obvious difference in chemerin levels between NASH patients and controls. It is possible that chemerin will be used as a biomarker in the future to track the development and progression of MAFLD.

RESUMEN

Free-space point-to-point optical communication often suffers from atmospheric turbulence and device vibration where the environment is harsh. In this paper, by introducing an adaptive system composed of turbulence compensation and fast auto-alignment installation, we propose and experimentally demonstrate an optical communication system that is effective against turbulence and vibration. Turbulence compensation can increase the coupling efficiency by at least 3dB, while fast auto-alignment can reduce the spatial range of beam vibration caused by device vibration by 72.22%. Since the photodiode detector (PD) is sensitive to optical power, reducing the loss of the link improves the communication quality of the system. Bit-error rate (BER) of 10-Gbaud 16-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM) signal transmission in the link is also measured under different transmitted power, having ∼8dB power penalty improvement with the adaptive system. In addition, turbulence compensation for higher-order modes such as optical vortex (OV) beams is also implemented, showing a promising prospect in space-division multiplexing (SDM) applications.

RESUMEN

Spin-orbit photonics, involving the interaction between the spin angular momentum (SAM) and orbital angular momentum (OAM) of light, plays an important role in modern optics. Here, we present the spin-orbit mapping of light in a few-mode fiber that originates from the mode degeneracy lifting (TM_{01} and TE_{01}) property. We demonstrate two kinds of spin-orbit mapping phenomena, i.e., mapping from intrinsic SAM to OAM and mapping from polarization direction rotation to field pattern rotation. The demonstrated spin-orbit mapping shows high efficiency, large bandwidth, availability for short pulses, and scalability to high-order OAM states.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Maresin-1 (MaR1) is an anti-inflammatory pro-resolving mediator and is considered a potential regulator of metabolic diseases. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a very common metabolic liver disease. However, little information is available on the relationship between MaR1 and NAFLD in humans. Therefore, the study explored the association between serum MaR1 levels and NAFLD. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 240 Chinese people, including 116 non-NAFLD subjects and 124 NAFLD patients. Serum MaR1 levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The association between MaR1 and NAFLD was assessed. RESULTS: Circulating MaR1 levels in NAFLD patients were markedly lower than those in non-NAFLD subjects (63.63 [59.87-73.93] vs 73.11 [65.12-84.50] pg/mL, P = 0.000). The percentages of patients with NAFLD gradually decreased with the increase of MaR1 quartiles (P < 0.001). Furthermore, serum MaR1 levels were positively associated with aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase (AST/ALT), albumin, the albumin-globulin-ratio, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (all P < 0.05) and negatively associated with body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, hip circumference, the waist-to-hip ratio, ALT, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), uric acid, triglyceride (TG), and fasting blood glucose (FBG) (all P < 0.05) after adjusting for sex and age. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that serum MaR1 levels were significantly associated with NAFLD. CONCLUSIONS: Circulating MaR1 levels were decreased in patients with NAFLD, and a negative correlation was identified between NAFLD and serum MaR1 concentrations. Decreased MaR1 might be involved in the development of NAFLD.

RESUMEN

This study is to provide the basis of establishing a quality evaluation system, based on the differences in appearance and internal components of Astragali Radix from different sources. The diameter of 18 batches of Astragali Radix, the content of alcohol(water) extract and 7 kinds of flavonoids were determined. The peak area ratio of flavonoid aglycon to aglycone was calculated. PCA and CA were carried out by synthesizing various indexes. The results of PCA and CA showed that Astragali Radix was obviously clustered into three types. Alcohol extract, formononetin/formosan glycosides,(pilose isoflavones+astragalus flavonoid A)/pilose isoflavone glucoside are the most significant differences in the variable importance projection index(VIP) of Astragali Radix. Combining the diameter, alcohol(water) extract, flavonoid aglycon to aglycone peak area ratio can provide an analysis method for the establishment of the grade evaluation system of Astragali Radix.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To define the impact of hyperlipidemia as a coexisting factor on the prognosis of Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (ISSHL), we prospectively analysed the Lipid-lowering therapy Group (LLTG) data compared with Control Group (CG) data to determine the effects of Lipid intervention on the prognosis of sudden hearing loss. DESIGN: A prospective, non-randomized study. SETTING: Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong University, Shandong, China. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 653 in-patient SSHL patients were enrolled between January 2014 to August 2018. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: From January 2014 to August 2018, 653 patients with ISSHL who also had hyperlipidemia as coexisting factor were identified. Patients enrolled in LLTG (n = 200) or CG (n = 453) were compared by a propensity score matching analysis (PSM, caliper = 0.01, n = 2) to balance pre-existing clinical characteristics. After matching, the effective rate of different hyperlipidemia types and different types of audiogram in both groups were performed by Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel test (CMH). RESULTS: After PSM, 440 patients were studied (146 in LLTG, 294 in CG), and the influence of interference factors was balanced, meanwhile, the final hearing level was better in LLTG than CG (P = .043), and hearing gain was higher in LLTG than CG (P = .006). Cure rate (32.9%), significant improvement rate (22.6%) and the total effective rate (76.0%) in LLTG were better than that in CG group (26.5%, 15.6% and 63.6%) after the Pearson chi-square test (P < .05). Analysis with the Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel test showed that the total effective rate was better in LLTG than CG respectively (P = .009) in each different hyperlipidemia types, and there were statistically significant differences in TG higher group (TG Group; P = .018). Moreover, the total effective rate was better in LLTG than CG (P = .006) for all patterns of audiogram, and there were statistically significant differences in flat audiogram (P = .043). CONCLUSIONS: Lipid-lowering therapy can improve the curative effect of sudden hearing loss patients combined with hyperlipidemia. There was a significant difference in the total effective rate of TG Group after lipid intervention, suggesting that there might be causal relationship between TG and sudden hearing loss. There was a significant difference in the total effective rate between flat audiogram, which may suggest flat hearing loss was more likely caused by vascular dysfunction.

RESUMEN

Owing to the rapid advent of wireless technology and proliferation of smart sensors, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been widely used to monitor and query the physical world in many applications based on the Internet of Things (IoT), such as environmental monitoring and event surveillance. A WSN can be treated as a distributed database to respond to user queries. Skyline query, as one of the popular queries for multi-criteria decision making, has received considerable attention due to its numerous applications. In this paper, we study how to process a continuous skyline query over a sensor data stream in WSNs. We present an energy-efficient continuous skyline query method called EECS. EECS can avoid the transmission of invalid sensor data and prolong the lifetime of WSNs. Extensive experiments are conducted, and the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

RESUMEN

Ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry( UPLC-MS/MS) was used to establish the simultaneous determination method of eight neurotransmitters in brain, liver, kidney, adrenal gland, serum and urine, including serotonin,5-hydroxyindole acetic acid, epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, glutamic acid,γ-aminobutyric acid, and acetylcholine, and then investigate the distribution characteristics of neurotransmitters in rat tissues, blood and urine. Waters ACQUITY UPLC BEH C_(18) column( 2. 1 mm×100 mm,1. 7 µm) was used, with 0. 3% formic acid solution-acetonitrile as the mobile phase for gradient elution.Multiple reaction monitoring( MRM) scanning method under positive mode by atmospheric pressure electrospray ion source( ESI) was also performed to establish the detection method of neurotransmitters for methodological research. The plasma, urine and tissues of normal rats were pre-treated including homogenization, centrifuging, and protein removal, then the 2 µL supernatant was injected for analysis. The results showed that eight kinds of neurotransmitters could be accurately determined within 7 min, with linear correlation coefficients all greater than 0. 99. This method showed high accuracy and good precision, with specificity, stability, extraction recovery and matrix effects all complying with the biological sample analysis requirements. The most abundant transmitters in the brain, liver, kidney, kidney gland, blood and urine were γ-aminobutyric acid, glutamic acid, glutamic acid, adrenaline, glutamic acid and dopamine. The method is sensitive, rapid, precise, accurate and specific, and can be used for simultaneous quantitative analysis of eight neurotransmitters in biological samples. The investigation of the distribution ratio of transmitters in rats is of important significance to disease prevention and treatment.

RESUMEN

We have developed a novel method for detecting nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) based on fluorescent silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) stabilized by a dumbbell-shaped DNA template containing two cytosine-loops joined in a dsDNA stem. The design involves two types of components: a dumbbell-shaped DNA template and three enzymes. In the presence of NAD+ as a cofactor, Escherichia coli DNA ligase (E.coli DNA ligase) catalyzes template ligation to generate a sealed (no terminal nucleotides) dumbbell-shaped structure, preventing digestion by exonuclease III (Exo III) and exonuclease I (Exo I). The loop regions of the intact template serve as sites for the deposition of highly fluorescent AgNCs. In the absence of NAD+, the ligation reaction does not occur, and the unsealed dumbbell-shaped template is digested into mononucleotides via cooperation of Exo III and Exo I. The destruction of the DNA template results in the agglomeration of AgNCs into silver nanoparticles with low fluorescence. The fluorescence enhancement depends on the ligation and digestion of the DNA template, allowing quantitative detection of NAD+ in the range of 0.5 nM-5000 nM with a detection limit of ∼0.25 nM.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: High-dose methylprednisolone pulses were one of the main treatments for anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody (ANCA) associated vasculitides (AAV) but had obvious side effects. We aimed to know the impact on renal survival and identify the prognostic factors of this treatment in Chinese AAV patients with severe renal involvement. METHODS: One hundred and eleven AAV patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 10ml/min/1.73 m2 or less at admission were included. The MP group (n = 57) received intravenous methylprednisolone 500 mg/d for 3 days, while the control group (n = 54) had not. The outcomes and adverse events between two groups were compared. Besides, predictors for dialysis independence and good response of intravenous methylprednisolone were analyzed using Cox regression analysis and ROC curves respectively. RESULTS: Their median duration of follow-up was 31 (range 3 to 134) months. Eleven patients in MP group and 20 patients in control group were died (P = 0.056). Twenty-one patients (36.8%) in MP group and 29 patients (53.7%) in control group were on maintaining dialysis (P = 0.088). Twenty-one patients in MP group remained dialysis independent, more than those in control group (4 patients, P <0.01). Urine protein creatinine ratio (hazard ratio 1.730, 95% confidence interval 1.029 to 2.909, P = 0.039) and the treatment of intravenous methylprednisolone pulses (hazard ratio 0.362, 95% confidence interval 0.190 to 0.690, P = 0.002) were the independent risk factors for dialysis independence. Those patients with serum creatinine≥855µmol/L and urine protein ≥3.7g/24h at admission may have worse responses to intravenous methylprednisolone pulses (sensibility 56.7%, specificity 85.0%, PPV 100.0% and NPV57.1%). CONCLUSIONS: Intravenous methylprednisolone pulses could improve the long-term outcome in term of dialysis independence and tend to decrease mortality for Chinese AAV patients with severe renal involvement.
