RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To study chest computed tomography (CT) manifestations in neonates with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) to provide clues for early diagnosis of this disease. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data and chest CT scan results of neonates diagnosed with CGD from January 2015 to December 2022 at Anhui Provincial Children's Hospital. RESULTS: Nine neonates with CGD were included, with eight presenting respiratory symptoms as the initial sign. Chest CT findings included: consolidation in all 9 cases; nodules in all 9 cases, characterized by multiple, variably sized scattered nodules in both lungs; masses in 4 cases; cavities in 3 cases; abscesses in 6 cases; bronchial stenosis in 2 cases; pleural effusion, interstitial changes, and mediastinal lymphadenopathy each in 1 case. CT enhancement scans showed nodules and masses with uneven or ring-shaped enhancement; no signs of pulmonary emphysema, lung calcification, halo signs, crescent signs, bronchiectasis, or scar lesions were observed. There was no evidence of rib or vertebral bone destruction. Fungal infections were present in 8 of the 9 cases, including 6 with Aspergillus infections; three of these involved mixed infections with Aspergillus, with masses most commonly associated with mixed Aspergillus infections (3/4). CONCLUSIONS: The primary manifestations of neonatal CGD on chest CT are consolidation, nodules, and/or masses, with Aspergillus as a common pathogen. These features can serve as early diagnostic clues for neonatal CGD.

RESUMEN

The Chang'E-5 (CE-5) lunar samples were analyzed nondestructively for more than 40 elements by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) with a strict quality assurance and quality control. Based on the INAA results, some new observations and discoveries were made. Major, minor, and trace elements in CE-5 are very different from those of the Earth and Apollo lunar samples. The rare earth element (REE) pattern indicated that the CE-5 lunar samples are mare basalts with a clear negative anomaly in Eu. Element correlations are a very interesting discovery; for example, the ratios of Ba/La and FeO/MnO in CE-5 are almost identical to those of the Apollo lunar samples. These observations and discoveries will enrich the understanding of the formation and evolution of the Moon.

RESUMEN

We report a case of a 10-year-old male patient with pulmonary artery aneurysm (PAA) caused by infective endarteritis of the pulmonary artery attributed to patent ductus arteriosus. He was found to have patent ductus arteriosus at the age of 2, but he was not treated because of the absence of symptoms and normal physical development. He sought medical attention for fever and cough in August 2022. Echocardiography showed pulmonary artery aneurysm, intrapulmonary artery bulge, patent ductus arteriosus, and pericardial effusion. Contrast-enhanced CT showed pulmonary artery aneurysm, patent ductus arteriosus, and a slight compression of the left main bronchus. Surgery was performed to reconstruct the main pulmonary trunk and repair the ductus arteriosus in November 2022. The surgical outcomes were satisfactory.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis is a kind of chronic crippling disease, the condition is complex, the course of the disease is repeated, seriously affecting the quality of life of patients. Adverse reactions and drug resistance associated with conventional treatment can no longer meet the clinical need. Therefore, complementary and alternative therapies need to be explored. The evidence shows that silver needle therapy has advantages in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, but there is a lack of standard clinical studies to verify this conclusion. METHODS: This is a prospective randomized controlled trial to study the efficacy and safety of silver needles in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Approved by the Clinical Research Ethics Committee of our hospital. The patients are randomly divided into a treatment group (silver needle treatment group) or control group (routine western medicine treatment group). The patients are followed up for 2 months after 4 weeks of treatment. Observation indicators include: TCM symptom score, HAQDI score, DAS-28 score, laboratory indicators, adverse reactions and so on. Data will be analyzed using the statistical software package SPSS version 18.0 (Chicago, IL). DISCUSSION: This study will evaluate the clinical efficacy of a silver needle in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The results of this study will provide a reliable reference for the clinical use of a silver needle in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. RESUMEN

This study was conducted to evaluate the genetic diversity within and among the plants of four ancient tea gardens and two tableland tea gardens form Yunnan Province, China by AFLP technique. The percentage of polymorphic loci (P) of the plants from six tea gardens was 92.31%. The genetic diversity within the six gardens demonstrated by Nei cents genetic diversity (He) was estimated to be 0.1366, while Shannon indices (Ho) were 0.2323. The percentage of polymorphic loci of the four ancient tea populations was 45.55% on average, with a range of 36.44% (Mengsong) to 59.11% (Mengla). But the percentages of polymorphic loci of the plants from two tableland gardens were 13.77% (Yunkang 10) and 24.2% (Menghai Daye), respectively. There was a great genetic difference between ancient tea gardens and tableland tea gardens. The genetic diversity among the plants of the ancient tea garden was higher than those of the sexual tableland tea garden and the clone tableland tea garden based on P valve. The four ancient tea gardens and two tableland gardens could be differentiated with AFLP markers. The results show that AFLP marker is an effective tool in the discrimination of tea germplasm, as well as sundried green tea.

RESUMEN

Neutron bubble detector is so far the only personal neutron dosimeter satisfying the energy response criteria of the International Committee of Radiation Protection 60 (ICRP 60). This paper presents our studies on neutron bubble detectors including the manufacture, the relevant equipments, the basic calibrations and on-site tests for monitoring personal neutron dose. The results of calibrations show that the highest sensitivity so far manufactured by the authors reaches about 4bubbles/µSv, the correlation coefficient of dose response is 0.99, and the in-batch consistency and reproducibility are up to the ISO standards. The results of on-site test show that the in-batch consistency and between-batch consistency are within 15% relative standard uncertainty. The results are directly readable. The detectors are portable, especially suitable for on-site neutron dose monitoring in n-γ mixed radiation fields.

RESUMEN

Nuclear tracks can be etched into pores in which the refractive indexes gradually increase, so that the sample surface reflects very few lights back. CR-39 samples were bombarded with sulfur ions from the Tandem Accelerator HI-13 of CIAE. Three kinds of procedures were performed in the following treatments. The reflectivity was measured for all samples, untreated and treated, within the wavelengths of visible light. The results indicated that the reflectivity of the CR-39 samples modified with the track technique and multilayer coating can be as low as 0.1%.

RESUMEN

Radiochemical neutron activation analysis (RNAA) has been used for the determination of eight rare earth elements (La, Ce, Nd, Sm, Eu, Tb, Yb, and Lu) in two Chinese certified reference materials (CRM), GBW 08503 (wheat powder) and GBW 09101 (human hair). These determinations are important for possible certification of the above mentioned ultra-trace elements, so far not certified. A simple one-step (REE)F3 precipitation was used. Chemical yields were determined for all relevant elements by means of tracer experiments. The two CRM were also analyzed by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to compare the merits and draw-backs of these two major trace analytical techniques for these particular elements. RNAA was proven to be a reliable technique for ultra-trace analysis, especially in the certification of some ultra-trace elements.
