RESUMEN

In this study, 858 novel long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) were predicted as sensitive and resistant strains of Haemonchus contortus to ivermectin. These lncRNAs underwent bioinformatic analysis. In total, 205 lncRNAs significantly differed using log2 (difference multiplicity) > 1 or log2 (difference multiplicity) < - 1 and FDR < 0.05 as the threshold for significant difference analysis. We selected five lncRNAs based on significant differences in expression, cis-regulation, and their association with the Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways. These expressions of lncRNAs, namely MSTRG.12610.1, MSTRG.8169.1, MSTRG.6355.1, MSTRG.980.1, and MSTRG.9045.1, were significantly downregulated. These findings were consistent with the results of transcriptomic sequencing. We further investigated the relative expression of target gene mRNAs and the regulation of mRNA and miRNA, starting with lncRNA cis-regulation of mRNA, and constructed a lncRNA-mRNA-miRNA network regulation. After a series of statistical analyses, we finally screened out UGT8, Unc-116, Fer-related kinase-1, GGPP synthase 1, and sart3, which may be involved in developing drug resistance under the regulation of their corresponding lncRNAs. The findings of this study provide a novel direction for future studies on drug resistance targets.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) signaling play an important role in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD); however, the link between TLR2 and ERS in IBD is unclear. This study investigated whether Thapsigargin (TG) -induced ER protein expression levels contributed to TLR2-mediated inflammatory response. METHODS: The THP-1 cells were treated with TLR2 agonist (Pam3CSK4), ERS inducer Thapsigargin (TG) or inhibitor (TUDCA). The mRNA expressions of TLR1-TLR10 were detected by qPCR. The production and secretion of inflammatory factors were detected by PCR and ELISA. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expressions of GRP78 and TLR2 in the intestinal mucosa of patients with Crohn's disease (CD). The IBD mouse model was established by TNBS in the modeling group. ERS inhibitor (TUDCA) was used in the treatment group. RESULTS: The expression of TLRs was detected via polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in THP-1 cells treated by ERS agonist Thapsigargin (TG). According to the findings, TG could promote TLR2 and TLR5 expression. Subsequently, in TLR2 agonist Pam3CSK4 induced THP-1 cells, TG could lead to increased expression of the inflammatory factors such as TNF-α, IL-1ß and IL-8, and ERS inhibitor (TUDCA) could block this effect. However, Pam3CSK4 did not significantly impact the GRP78 and CHOP expression. Based upon the immunohistochemical results, TLR2 and GRP78 expression were significantly increased in the intestinal mucosa of patients with Crohn's disease (CD). For in vivo experiments, TUDCA displayed the ability to inhibit intestinal mucosal inflammation and reduce GRP78 and TLR2 proteins. CONCLUSIONS: ERS and TLR2 is upregulated in inflammatory bowel disease, ERS may promote TLR2 pathway-mediated inflammatory response. Moreover, ERS and TLR2 signaling could be novel therapeutic targets for IBD.

RESUMEN

Active metasurfaces add a new dimension to static metasurfaces by introducing tunability, and this has received enormous attention from industry. Although various mechanisms have been proposed over the past few years in literature, solutions with good practicality are limited. Liquid crystal (LC)-based active metasurface is one of the most promising approaches due to the well-established LC industry. In this paper, an electrically tunable active metasurface was proposed and experimentally demonstrated using photoaligned nematic LC. The good quality of the LC photoalignment on the metasurface was demonstrated. Tunable transmission was obtained for telecommunication C band and the modulation depth in transmission amplitude of 94% was realized for 1530 nm. Sub-millisecond response time was achieved at operating a temperature of 60°C. The progress made here presents the potential of LC-based active metasurfaces for fast-switching photonic devices at optical communication wavelengths. More importantly, this work lays the foundations for the next-generation liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) devices that are integrated with metasurfaces (meta-LCoS).

RESUMEN

Liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) is a widely used spatial light modulator (SLM) in computer-generated holography (CGH). However, the phase-modulating profile of LCoS is often not ideally uniform in application, bringing about undesired intensity fringes. In this study, we overcome this problem by proposing a highly robust dual-SLM complex-amplitude CGH technique, which incorporates a polarimetric mode and a diffractive mode. The polarimetric mode linearizes the general phase modulations of the two SLMs separately, while the diffractive mode uses camera-in-the-loop optimization to achieve improved holographic display. Experimental results show the effectiveness of our proposal in improving reconstructing accuracy by 21.12% in peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and 50.74% in structure similarity index measure (SSIM), using LCoS SLMs with originally non-uniform phase-modulating profiles.

RESUMEN

For years, researchers have been tirelessly searching for efficient postharvest preservatives to ensure a sustainable and healthy supply chain of fresh fruits and vegetables. However, the effectiveness of preservatives is significantly influenced by delivery methods employed for preservatives. This work centers on delivery methods of diverse preservatives. It delves into the mechanisms of penetration and internalization that facilitate preservatives diffusion into fruits and vegetables. Furthermore, the study comprehensively reviews various delivery methods and their impact on postharvest quality of these fresh food. Methods include liquid surface impregnation (soaking, vacuum infiltration, spraying) and gaseous fumigation. Additionally, unconventional delivery measures, such as fruit stem delivery, microbubble, and edible coating, are discussed in detail for the first time. It is expected that our work will provide inspiration for future development in academia, industry, and supervision.Through a comprehensive review on preservative delivery methods in fruits and vegetables preservation, it becomes evident that majority of existing studies concentrate on the development and mechanisms of preservatives. However, a notable gap lies in comparative analysis of different delivery methods, despite the direct impact of delivery methods on preservation outcomes. Additionally, emerging delivery techniques have displayed promising potential in enhancing delivery efficiency and likewise preservation effectiveness.

Preservative delivery methods (soaking, vacuum infiltration, spraying, fumigation) directly impact their effectiveness.Delivery efficiency is linked to fruit epidermis, including cuticle, intercellular spaces, and stomata.Research uses varied delivery methods, concentrations, and times for preserving different fruits.Promising preservative delivery methods: microbubble, fruit stem delivery, and edible coating.

RESUMEN

Phase flicker in liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) devices can decrease the effective phase modulation resolution by introducing overlapped phase oscillations between adjacent modulated gray levels, thus degrading the performance of LCoS devices in various applications. However, the effect of phase flicker on a holographic display is often overlooked. From an application angle, this paper investigates the quality of the holographic reconstructed image, especially sharpness, under the static and dynamic effects of different flicker magnitudes. Both the simulation and experimental results reveal that the increment in the magnitude of phase flicker causes an equal sharpness deterioration with the reduction of the numbers of hologram phase modulation levels.

RESUMEN

Liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) has been the dominant choice for wavelength selective switches (WSSs) in telecommunication industry due to its high spatial resolution and compatibility with software defined flexible grid feature. Current LCoS devices generally have a limited steering angle, which also limits the minimum footprint of the WSS system. The steering angle of LCoS devices is fundamentally determined by the pixel pitch, which is highly challenging to be optimized without resorting to other techniques. In this paper, we present an approach to increase the steering angle of LCoS devices through the integration with dielectric metasurfaces. Here a dielectric Huygens-type metasurface is integrated with an LCoS device to increase its steering angle by 10°. This approach can effectively minimize the overall size of the WSS system while maintaining a small form factor of the LCoS device.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: A new two-piece abutment design consisting of an upper prosthetic component and tissue-level base has been introduced; however, the biomechanical behavior of such a design has not been documented. This study aimed to investigate the effect of a two-piece abutment design on the stress in the implant components and surrounding bone, as well as its influence on microgap formation. METHODS: To simulate the implant models in the mandibular left first molar area, we established nine experimental groups that included three bone qualities (type II, III, and IV) and three implant-abutment designs (internal bone level, tissue level, and a two-piece design). After the screw was preloaded, the maximum occlusal (600 N) and masticatory (225 N) forces were established. Finite element analysis was performed to analyze the maximum and minimum principal stresses on the peri-implant bone; the von Mises stresses in the implants, abutments, bases, and screws, and the microgaps at the implant-abutment, implant-base, and base-abutment interfaces. RESULTS: For all three loading methods, the two-piece abutment design and bone-level connection exhibited similarities in the maximum and minimum principal stresses in the peri-implant bone. The von Mises stresses in both screws and bases were greater for the two-piece design than for the other connection types. The smallest microgap was detected in the tissue-level connection; the largest was observed at the implant-base interface in the two-piece design. CONCLUSIONS: The present study found no evidence that the abutment design exerts a significant effect on peri-implant bone stress. However, the mechanical effects associated with the base and screws should be noted when using a two-piece abutment design. The two-piece abutment design also had no advantage in eliminating the microgap.

RESUMEN

CONTEXT: Obesity, one of the major public health problems worldwide, has attracted increasing attention. Ginsenoside Rb1 is the most abundant active component of Panax ginseng C.A.Mey (Araliaceae) and is reported to have beneficial effects on obesity and diabetes. However, the mechanisms by which Rb1 regulates obesity remain to be explored. OBJECTIVE: This paper intends to further explore the mechanism of Rb1 in regulating obesity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The C57BL/6 obese mice were divided into two groups: the control (CTR) and Rb1. The CTR group [intraperitoneally (ip) administered with saline] and the Rb1 group (ip administered with Rb1, 40 mg/kg/d) were treated daily for four weeks. In vitro, Rb1 (0, 10, 20, 40 µM) was added to differentiated C2C12 cells and Rb1 (0, 20, 40 µM) was added to 3T3-L1 cells. After 24 h, total RNA and protein from C2C12 cells and 3T3-L1 cells were used to detect myostatin (MSTN) and fibronectin type III domain-containing 5 (FNDC5) expression. RESULTS: Rb1 reduced the body weight and adipocyte size. Improved glucose tolerance and increased basic metabolic activity were also found in Rb1 treated mice. MSTN was downregulated in differentiated C2C12 cells, 3T3-L1 cells and adipose tissues upon Rb1 treatment. FNDC5 was increased after Rb1 treatment. However, MSTN overexpression attenuated Rb1-mediated decrease accumulation of lipid droplets in differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes. DISCUSSION & CONCLUSIONS: Rb1 may ameliorate obesity in part through the MSTN/FNDC5 signalling pathway. Our results showed that Rb1 can be used as an effective drug in the treatment of human obesity.

RESUMEN

The mixed-valent tetramanganese MnIII3MnIV (Mn4) cubane clusters have been at the forefront of molecular magnetism and biomimetic catalysis research for decades. Incorporating robust polyoxometalates to Mn4 cubanes significantly improves their stability and aqueous solubility, while providing a great platform for studying their deposition onto selected surfaces during device fabrication. In this work, we discovered that the terminal carboxylate ligands in these polyoxometalate-based [MnIII3MnIVO4] magnetic clusters can be partially or completely replaced by inorganic phosphate/polyphosphate groups. This replacement leads to oligomeric aggregates of the Mn4 clusters. The magnetic data of the monomeric and oligomeric Mn4 clusters suggested that the introduction of inorganic phosphate bridges may not alter the S = 9/2 ground state of individual Mn4 clusters, although different magnetic behaviors, especially at low temperatures, were observed primarily because of intercluster interactions.

RESUMEN

Pixel-based semantic segmentation models fail to effectively express geographic objects and their topological relationships. Therefore, in semantic segmentation of remote sensing images, these models fail to avoid salt-and-pepper effects and cannot achieve high accuracy either. To solve these problems, object-based models such as graph neural networks (GNNs) are considered. However, traditional GNNs directly use similarity or spatial correlations between nodes to aggregate nodes' information, which rely too much on the contextual information of the sample. The contextual information of the sample is often distorted, which results in a reduction in the node classification accuracy. To solve this problem, a knowledge and geo-object-based graph convolutional network (KGGCN) is proposed. The KGGCN uses superpixel blocks as nodes of the graph network and combines prior knowledge with spatial correlations during information aggregation. By incorporating the prior knowledge obtained from all samples of the study area, the receptive field of the node is extended from its sample context to the study area. Thus, the distortion of the sample context is overcome effectively. Experiments demonstrate that our model is improved by 3.7% compared with the baseline model named Cluster GCN and 4.1% compared with U-Net.

RESUMEN

Purpose: To determine whether covered or uncovered stent insertion achieved better clinical efficacy when used to treat malignant superior vena cava (SVC) obstruction (SVCO).Material and methods: A total of 64 patients with malignant SVCO underwent stent insertion between January 2011 and March 2018 at our center. Of these, 34 were treated via uncovered stent insertion while 30 were treated via covered stent insertion. We compared the clinical effectiveness, patency of the stent, and overall survival between these two groups. Results: Both treatments achieved a 100% technical and clinical success rate, without any incidence of complications relating to the procedure. Stent dysfunction was found in one and six patients in the covered and uncovered groups during the follow-up period (1/30 vs. 6/34, p = .153), respectively. The covered stent patency period was significantly longer in the group treated with covered stents (374 vs. 317 days, p = .049), while median survival following stent insertion was 175 and 159 days, respectively, for the covered and uncovered groups (p = .784).Conclusion: Uncovered and covered stent insertion are both safe means of effectively treating patients with malignant SVCO, but covered stents achieve better patency for long-term periods than uncovered stents.

RESUMEN

In presented study, the effects of subcritical water (SW) and high pressure homogenization (HPH) treatments on the physicochemical and structural characteristics of dietary fibers (DFs) from bamboo shoots (Phyllostachys praecox f. Prevernalis) were investigated. The soluble dietary fiber (SDF) content was dramatically increased in SW and HPH treated DFs. Compared with HPH, SW modification enhanced higher physicochemical properties including water holding capacity (WHC), oil holding capacity (OHC) and swelling capacity (SC) of DFs. The abilities of DFs to absorb cholesterol and nitrite ions were both greatly increased after treatments. The results of Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed that the structure of DFs were changed by SW and HPH. In conclusion, SW treatment showed better effects on improvement of physicochemical properties of bamboo shoot DFs than that of HPH, and the modified DFs could be a potential new functional foods or food additives.

RESUMEN

The structure, site occupancies, and photoluminescence (PL) properties of Ce3+- or Eu2+-doped Ca9La(PO4)7 phosphors were investigated in this work. The powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) data and Rietveld refinement results showed that the phosphors are pure phases. The vacuum ultraviolet-ultraviolet-visible (VUV-UV-vis) spectra and decay curves confirmed that the Ce3+ and Eu2+ ions in Ca9La(PO4)7 occupied two crystal sites. Additionally, the tunable color can be obtained by adjusting doping concentration and altering temperature. The fabricated w-LED lamp based on Eu2+-doped Ca9La(PO4)7 phosphor gave properties with a color rendering index (CRI) of 85.26, CIE chromaticity coordinates of (0.358, 0.307), and color temperature (CCT) of 4329 K.

RESUMEN

The main mechanistic function of most chemotherapeutic drugs is mediated by inducing mitochondria-dependent apoptosis. Tumor cells usually respond to upregulate autophagy to eliminate impaired mitochondria for survival. Hypothetically, inhibiting autophagy might promote mitochondria-dependent apoptosis, thus enhancing the efficacy of chemotherapeutic therapies. We previously identified N-methylparoxetine (NMP) as an inducer of mitochondrial fragmentation with subsequent apoptosis in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. We discovered that ROS was accumulated in NMP-treated NSCLC cells, followed by c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38 MAP kinase (p38) activation. This was reversed by the application of a reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenger, N-acetylcysteine (NAC), leading to a reduction in apoptosis. Our data suggested that NMP induced apoptosis in NSCLC cells by activating mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway. We further speculated that the remarkable increase of ROS in NMP-treated NSCLC cells might result from an inhibition of autophagy. Our current data confirmed that NMP blocked autophagy flux at late stage wherein lysosomal acidification was inhibited. Taken together, this study demonstrated that NMP could exert dual apoptotic functions-mitochondria impairment and, concomitantly, autophagy inhibition. NMP-related excessive ROS accumulation induced apoptosis by activating the MAPK pathway in NSCLC cells.

RESUMEN

The use of X-rays instead of UV/Vis light to trigger photodynamic therapy, named X-ray inducible photodynamic therapy, holds tremendous promise due to a high penetration capacity in tissues and is worthy of in-depth study. In this study, a novel multifunctional nanoagent based on Merocyanine 540-coupled Gd2 (WO4 )3 :Tb nanoscintillators and the vitalization of its abilities for dual-modal computed tomography and the magnetic-resonance-imaging-guided synergistic radio-/X-ray inducible photodynamic therapy of tumors is reported. Synergistic therapies show a higher tumor growth inhibition efficiency at a lower X-ray dose than radiotherapy alone. Through this proof-of-concept work, a way to tactfully understand and utilize nanoscintillators for cancer theranostics is shown.

RESUMEN

We examine the Goos-Hänchen (GH) effect for a Gaussian beam impinging on the surface of silicene whose topological phase transitions can be modulated by external electric field and/or irradiating circular polarized light. It is shown that both the spatial and angular shifts in GH effect present a sharp jump due to the topological phase transitions. The transitional GH effect can be attributed to transitional optical conductivity, which relates to Berry curvature and Chern numbers. These results can be extensively extended to other two-dimensional atomic crystals in graphene family. We believe that the transitional GH effect may offer a possible way to determine the Berry curvature, Chern numbers, and topological phase transition by a direct optical measurement.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND This study aimed to investigate the added value of NeuroGam software analysis in the localization diagnosis of epileptogenic zone during interictal phase of seizures. MATERIAL AND METHODS The clinical data of 67 patients, clinically diagnosed as epilepsy, were analyzed retrospectively. Visual analysis and NeuroGam software analysis were used for independent analysis. The 2 methods were used to compare the efficacy indicator of the diagnosis of epileptogenic zone, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve evaluated the diagnostic efficacy. RESULTS Through the final clinical diagnostic comprehensive localization, among 67 epilepsy patients, the epileptogenic zone in 51 cases could be located distinctly, and those in 16 cases could not be located. Compared to the visual analysis, the NeuroGam software analysis was more sensitive in the location of epileptogenic zone (χ²=4.876, P=0.027). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of the NeuroGam software and visual analyses was 0.760 and 0.689, (0.613, 0.908) and (0.547, 0.832), respectively. However, the consistency of the 2 methods was poor (Kappa=0.367, P=0.001). Compared to visual analysis, the NeuroGam software analysis exerted more advantages in the localization diagnosis of the epileptogenic zone (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS In the location diagnosis of brain perfusion, single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) epileptogenic zone was used in interictal phase of seizures, and NeuroGam software analysis exerted a distinct added value for visual analysis.
