RESUMEN

Rapid accumulation of repair factors at DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) is essential for DSB repair. Several factors involved in DSB repair have been found undergoing liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) at DSB sites to facilitate DNA repair. RNF168, a RING-type E3 ubiquitin ligase, catalyzes H2A.X ubiquitination for recruiting DNA repair factors. Yet, whether RNF168 undergoes LLPS at DSB sites remains unclear. Here, we identified K63-linked polyubiquitin-triggered RNF168 condensation which further promoted RNF168-mediated DSB repair. RNF168 formed liquid-like condensates upon irradiation in the nucleus while purified RNF168 protein also condensed in vitro. An intrinsically disordered region containing amino acids 460-550 was identified as the essential domain for RNF168 condensation. Interestingly, LLPS of RNF168 was significantly enhanced by K63-linked polyubiquitin chains, and LLPS largely enhanced the RNF168-mediated H2A.X ubiquitination, suggesting a positive feedback loop to facilitate RNF168 rapid accumulation and its catalytic activity. Functionally, LLPS deficiency of RNF168 resulted in delayed recruitment of 53BP1 and BRCA1 and subsequent impairment in DSB repair. Taken together, our finding demonstrates the pivotal effect of LLPS in RNF168-mediated DSB repair.

RESUMEN

RAP80 has been characterized as a component of the BRCA1-A complex and is responsible for the recruitment of BRCA1 to DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). However, we and others found that the recruitment of RAP80 and BRCA1 were not absolutely temporally synchronized, indicating that other mechanisms, apart from physical interaction, might be implicated. Recently, liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) has been characterized as a novel mechanism for the organization of key signaling molecules to drive their particular cellular functions. Here, we characterized that RAP80 LLPS at DSB was required for RAP80-mediated BRCA1 recruitment. Both cellular and in vitro experiments showed that RAP80 phase separated at DSB, which was ascribed to a highly disordered region (IDR) at its N-terminal. Meanwhile, the Lys63-linked poly-ubiquitin chains that quickly formed after DSBs occur, strongly enhanced RAP80 phase separation and were responsible for the induction of RAP80 condensation at the DSB site. Most importantly, abolishing the condensation of RAP80 significantly suppressed the formation of BRCA1 foci, encovering a pivotal role of RAP80 condensates in BRCA1 recruitment and radiosensitivity. Together, our study disclosed a new mechanism underlying RAP80-mediated BRCA1 recruitment, which provided new insight into the role of phase separation in DSB repair.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT) and total mesorectal excision are standard treatment regimen for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). This sphincter-saving treatment strategy may be accompanied by a series of anorectal functional disorders. Yet, prospective studies that dynamically evaluating the respective roles of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery on anorectal function are lacking. PATIENTS/DESIGN: The study is a prospective, observational, controlled, multicentre study. After screening for eligibility and obtaining informed consent, a total of 402 LARC patients undergoing NCRT followed by surgery, or neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery, or surgery only would be included in the trial. The primary outcome measure is the average resting pressure of anal sphincter. The secondary outcome measures are maximum anal sphincter contraction pressure, Wexner continence score and low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) score. Evaluations will be carried out at the following stages: baseline (T1), after radiotherapy or chemotherapy (before surgery, T2), after surgery (before closing the temporary stoma, T3), and at follow-up visits (every 3 to 6 months, T4, T5……). Follow-up for each patient will be at least 2 years. DISCUSSION: We expect the program to provide more information of neoadjuvant radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy on anorectal function, and to optimize the treatment strategy to reduce anorectal dysfunction for LARC patients. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05671809). Registered on 26 December 2022.

RESUMEN

Context: China is a country in which frequent natural disasters occur, but there is a lack of disaster education in Chinese institutions of higher education. Nursing students should receive disaster and emergency training in addition to their professional medical training. Objective: Our study aimed to investigate the current situation and disaster knowledge and training needs of nursing students and to increase the disaster first aid knowledge of college nursing students. Design: This was a cross-sectional study. Setting: The study took place at Taizhou University in Taizhou, Zhejiang, China. Participants: Participants were 443 full-time undergraduate nursing students at Taizhou University in China. Outcome Measures: This cross-sectional survey included a general questionnaire and an undergraduate nursing student disaster nursing ability questionnaire. Results: The survey results were from the first to the third year of study. Students were age 20 to 23 years, with an average age of 20.57±1.85 years. The largest group (35.44%) was made up of juniors. The scores of 3 dimensions of this survey were: dimension of physical and mental quality dimension (3.76 ± 0.71), theoretical system dimension (3.00 ± 0.57) and practical competencies dimension (2.89 ± 0.68). The ability to adapt to rescue needs at the disaster site and whether or not the student had heard of the term "disaster nursing" is the dominant factor affecting the disaster nursing skills of undergraduate nursing students. Conclusions: The disaster relief of male undergraduate nursing student seniors is more positive and their physical and mental quality is better than female nursing students, but knowledge of disaster prevention and practical capability in disaster relief remain weak and there is a lack of a corresponding theoretical system and competence in practical knowledge and skills. It is recommended that systematic disaster nursing education at universities be improved. Knowledge of disaster rescue should be taught systematically to improve awareness of disaster procedures and response and improve the level of practical skills in disaster rescue. We should learn from the educational approach and models of disaster nursing training in developed countries in order to establish a disaster nursing education model in China.

RESUMEN

Background of the Study Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are severe effect of diabetes. This research aimed to discover the role of micro-ribonucleic acid (miRNA) in treating DFUs involved in maggot debridement therapy (MDT) via a miRNA chip study. A miRNA chip approach was adopted. Patients with diabetes (type 1 or 2) who had at least one-foot ulcer (current or previous) were enrolled in the study. The alterations of miRNA expressions in the granulation tissue during treatment with MDT were measured. Following MDT, the increased expression of miR17-92 was verified in vivo. The miR-17-3p expression increased, and Flk-1 (vascular endothelial growth factor) expression was significantly reduced in patients with DFUs who received MDT (P < 0.01). Results from human umbilical vein endothelial cells that excrete or secrete showed consistency with in vitro findings (P < 0.001, P < 0.05). The overexpression of miR-17-3p demonstrated inhibitory activity on tube formation (P < 0.05). When DFUs were treated with MDT, it revealed that miR-17-3p had a negative regulatory effect on Flk-1.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of maggot debridement therapy (MDT) on macrophages during the healing process of diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). The activation phenotype of macrophages during wound healing following MDT was evaluated using double staining immunohistochemistry (IHC). In addition, markers associated with macrophage activation were discovered using immunoblotting and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). During the process of diabetic wound healing following MDT, the presence and over-expression of M2 macrophages were observed, while the under-expression of M1 macrophages was noted. In addition, the activation markers of macrophages exhibited a correlation with the indicated Th1/Th2 cytokines. MDT interventions have the potential to modulate macrophage activity, thereby aiding in the healing of diabetic foot wounds.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Our previous study reported that recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF)-triggered EGFR internalization promoted radioresistance. Here, we aimed to evaluate the effect of rhEGF on the skin protection of rectal and anal cancer patients receiving radiotherapy. METHODS: One hundred and ninety-three rectal and anal cancer patients who received radiotherapy were prospectively enrolled from January 2019 to December 2020. To perform self-controlled study, the left and right pelvic skin area (separated by midline) were randomly assigned to the rhEGF and control side. The association between radiation dermatitis and factors including rhEGF, the dose of radiotherapy and tumor distance from anal edge were analyzed. RESULTS: Among 193 enrolled patients, 41 patients (21.2%) did not develop radiation dermatitis, and 152 patients (78.8%) suffered radiation dermatitis on at least one side of pelvic skin at the end of radiotherapy. For the effect on radiation dermatitis grade, rhEGF had improved effect on 6 (4.0%) patients, detrimental effect on 2 (1.3%) patients, and no effect on 144 (94.7%) patients. Whereas for the effect on radiation dermatitis area, rhEGF showed improved effect on the radiation dermatitis area of 46 (30.2%) patients, detrimental effect on 15 (9.9%) patients, and no effect on 91 (59.9%) patients. The radiation dermatitis area of rhEGF side was significantly smaller than that of control side (P = 0.0007). CONCLUSIONS: rhEGF is a skin protective reagent for rectal and anal cancer patients receiving radiotherapy. RESUMEN

A fire is usually considered a severe disturbance factor in the environment. Globally, rising temperatures and increasing human activities have intensified the severity and frequency of fire incidents, and research on post-fire recovery has inevitably become an important focus for ecologists. In terms of the restoration of burned areas, there are usually two primary approaches: natural recovery and assisted recovery. However, very few relevant studies have systematically compared these recovery alternatives, suggesting which one is more favorable to the overall restoration of an ecosystem, especially to the soil microbes that function as indispensable components of ecosystems. In this study, the restoration of soil nematode-trapping fungi (NTF) in natural and assisted recovery environments was compared. The results showed that although the NTF community structures differed among the sample sites, the counts and diversity of the NTF communities in the upper and lower soil layers in the natural recovery area were higher than those in the assisted recovery and unburned control areas. These findings suggest that artificial efforts to help ecosystem recovery after fire negatively affect the speed and quality of soil NTF community recovery. Instead, natural recovery appears to be a more suitable land management choice after fire disturbance.

RESUMEN

Objective: The present study aims to investigate the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and renin-angiotensin-aldosterone levels in patients with essential hypertension. Methods: The present study observed two groups of patients from Urumqi, Xinjiang, China, from April 2017 to March 2018. There were two subject groups: the hypertension group (80 patients with essential hypertension selected by random cluster sampling) and the control group (76 healthy adults). The 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D or vitamin D) levels were measured through electrolytes; fasting blood glucose, blood lipids, and other biochemical indicators were detected using immune chemiluminescence; and plasma renin activity and angiotensin II concentrations were detected with radio-immunity. Results: Comparison between the hypertension group and control group showed statistically significant differences in the systolic pressure and levels of 25(OH)D, renin, and triglycerides (P < 0.05). The correlation analysis showed that 25(OH)D was negatively correlated with renin (r = -0.185; P=0.021) and positively correlated with systolic pressure (r = -0.105; P=0.035). There were no statistically significant differences in diastolic pressure, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides between the two groups. Conclusions: The results of the present study show that vitamin D deficiency is common in Urumqi, Xinjiang, China and vitamin D levels are negatively correlated with renin levels. Vitamin D plays an important role in regulating blood pressure by affecting renin levels through the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to establish a clinical prediction model for the differential diagnosis of pulmonary cystic echinococcosis (CE) and pulmonary abscess according to computed tomography (CT)-based radiomics signatures and clinical indicators. This is a retrospective single-centre study. A total of 117 patients, including 53 with pulmonary CE and 64 with pulmonary abscess, were included in our study and were randomly divided into a training set (n = 95) and validation set (n = 22). Radiomics features were extracted from CT images, a radiomics signature was constructed, and clinical indicators were evaluated to establish a clinical prediction model. Finally, a model combining imaging radiomics features and clinical indicators was constructed. The performance of the nomogram, radiomics signature and clinical prediction model was evaluated and validated with the training and test datasets, and then the three models were compared. The radiomics signature of this study was established by 25 features, and the radiomics nomogram was constructed by using clinical factors and the radiomics signature. Finally, the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs) for the training set and test set were 0.970 and 0.983, respectively. Decision curve analysis showed that the radiologic nomogram was better than the clinical prediction model and individual radiologic characteristic model in differentiating pulmonary CE from pulmonary abscess. The radiological nomogram and models based on clinical factors and individual radiomics features can distinguish pulmonary CE from pulmonary abscess and will be of great help to clinical diagnoses in the future.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: According to recent studies, the COVID-19 pandemic has been associated with an increased risk of mental health problems across many subpopulations including pregnant and postnatal women. This study examined the prevalence and correlates of depressive symptoms (depression hereafter) in Chinese pregnant and postpartum women during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: This was a multicenter, cross-sectional study comprising 1309 pregnant and postpartum women across 12 provinces in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. Depression was assessed using the nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire. Univariate analyses and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted. RESULTS: The prevalence of depression in pregnant and postpartum women was 27.43% (95% confidence interval [CI] = 25.01%-29.85%). Women who were worried about themselves or their babies being infected with COVID-19 (odds ratio [OR] = 2.562, 95% CI = 1.670-3.929), and those who had delayed regular medical checkups (OR = 2.434, 95% CI = 1.580-3.750) were at higher risk of depression. Compared with those living in central and western parts of China, women living in northern (OR = 0.513, 95% CI = 0.326-0.807) and southeastern parts of China (OR = 0.626, 95% CI = 0.463-0.846) were less likely to have depression. CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 pandemic was associated with an increased likelihood of mental health problems among pregnant and postnatal women. Over a quarter of the pregnant and postpartum women in China had depression during the COVID-19 pandemic. Considering the negative health impact of depression, preventive measures, regular mental health screening, and medical checkups are needed with the goal to reduce the risk of depression in this vulnerable population during a pandemic.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: A large number of studies have explored the association between frailty and mortality among COVID-19 patients, with inconsistent results. The aim of this meta-analysis was to synthesize the evidence on this issue. METHODS: Three databases, PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library, from inception to 20th January 2021 were searched for relevant literature. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to assess quality bias, and STATA was employed to pool the effect size by a random effects model. Additionally, potential publication bias and sensitivity analyses were performed. RESULTS: Fifteen studies were included, with a total of 23,944 COVID-19 patients, for quantitative analysis. Overall, the pooled prevalence of frailty was 51% (95% CI: 44-59%). Patients with frailty who were infected with COVID-19 had an increased risk of mortality compared to those without frailty, and the pooled hazard ratio (HR) and odds ratio (OR) were 1.99 (95% CI: 1.66-2.38) and 2.48 (95% CI: 1.78-3.46), respectively. In addition, subgroup analysis based on population showed that the pooled ORs for hospitalized patients in eight studies and nursing home residents in two studies were 2.62 (95% CI: 1.68-4.07) and 2.09 (95% CI: 1.40-3.11), respectively. Subgroup analysis using the frailty assessment tool indicated that this association still existed when using the clinical frailty scale (CFS) (assessed in 6 studies, pooled OR = 2.88, 95% CI: 1.52-5.45; assessed in 5 studies, pooled HR = 1.99, 95% CI: 1.66-2.38) and other frailty tools (assessed in 4 studies, pooled OR = 1.98, 95% CI: 1.81-2.16). In addition, these significant positive associations still existed in the subgroup analysis based on study design and geographic region. CONCLUSION: Our study indicates that frailty is an independent predictor of mortality among patients with COVID-19. Thus, frailty could be a prognostic factor for clinicians to stratify high-risk groups and remind doctors and nurses to perform early screening and corresponding interventions urgently needed to reduce mortality rates in patients infected by SARS-CoV-2.

RESUMEN

Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is a common side effect of cancer treatment. The factors influencing CINV in breast cancer patients remain unclear. In this study, we developed a nomogram for predicting the occurrence of CINV in this group using prospective clinical data. We pooled data from multiple studies which focused on the emetogenic chemotherapy. Then, we collected 334 breast cancer patients at Hunan Cancer Hospital (training set) to analyze the demographic and clinical variables. Using multivariate logistic regression, we identified the five significant factors that were associated with CINV: history of CINV, chemotherapy regimen, chemotherapy cycle, metastasis, and symptoms of distress. Then, we construct a prediction nomogram. The external validation set comprised an additional 66 patients. The reliability of the nomogram was assessed by bootstrap resampling. The C-index was 0.78 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.73-0.85) for the training set and 0.74 (95% CI, 0.62-0.85) for the validation set. Calibration curves showed good concordance between predicted and actual occurrence of CINV. In conclusions, our nomogram model can reliably predict the occurrence of CINV in breast cancer patients based on five significant variables, which might be useful in clinical decision-making.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Venous thromboembolism is a severe preventable complication among orthopaedic surgical patients. Integrating therapeutic guidelines into clinical practice can help improve patient safety and reduce the burden of this pathology. Improving the quality of patient care is important for bridging the gap between the prophylaxis for venous thromboembolism and therapeutic guidelines. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed at evaluating the knowledge, attitude, and venous thromboembolism and prophylaxis practices of Chinese orthopaedic nurses to guide quality care improvements. METHODS: The data used in this study are secondary data obtained from a multicentric survey. An anonymous questionnaire was used to measure the attitude and knowledge of venous thromboembolic prophylaxis among orthopaedic nurses. VTE prophylactic practices were extracted from medical records within the electronic case report form immediately after the nurses' investigations. The STROBE statement for observational studies was applied. RESULTS: Results indicated that although 94.0% of the responding nurses had attended training courses in their wards, a majority of them (68.9%) achieved a median knowledge score of 7 points or below (range 0-9). Knowledge regarding the proper use of prophylaxis, identification of risk factors, signs and symptoms for pulmonary embolism was limited. Self-reported attitudes underestimate the relationships between venous thromboembolism and low-quality nursing care. Pharmacological prophylaxis was highly used (90.9%), while the utilisation of mechanical prophylaxis and its proper use was relatively low. CONCLUSIONS: Chinese orthopaedic nurses demonstrated enthusiasm for venous thromboembolism and prophylaxis. Their knowledge needs to be improved, including the proper use of prophylaxis, identification of risk factors, signs and symptoms. Mechanical prophylaxis practice for VTE prevention after THA and TKA surgical procedures is not optimistic. Further studies should analyse the causes from multiple perspectives, including the availability of resources, the knowledge and attitude of doctors, nurses and patients. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: The findings from this study can be used to develop and implement interventions for venous thromboembolism after orthopaedic surgery.

RESUMEN

This study summarized and analyzed the current acne-relieving Chinese medicinal health products and Chinese patent medicines, aiming at providing references for the formulation and development of acne-relieving health products. The information on acne-relieving health products published by the Department of Special Food Safety Supervision and Management, the State Administration for Market Regulation( SAMR) was retrieved, and the Chinese patent medicines on DRUGDATAEXPY were searched. Microsoft Excel and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance Support System V2. 5( TCMISS) were employed to statistically analyze the characteristics of formulations. Forty-three acne-relieving health products were obtained, including 40 ones containing Chinese herbal medicines. Six Chinese herbal medicines showed a usage frequency ≥8,with 61 times in use totally, including Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma( 13),Lonicerae Japonicae Flos( 12),Taraxaci Herba( 11),ALOE( 9),Carthami Flos( 8),and Rhei Radix et Rhizoma( 8). A total of 29 Chinese patent medicines with similar efficacy were collected in DRUGDATAEXPY. Nine Chinese herbal medicines showed a usage frequency ≥6,with 63 times in use, including Rhei Radix et Rhizoma( 10),Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma( 8),Scutellariae Radix( 8),Lonicerae Japonicae Flos( 7),Angelicae Sinensis Radix( 6),Paeoniae Radix Rubra( 6),Astragali Radix( 6),Paeoniae Radix Alba( 6),and Gardeniae Fructus( 6). Through unsupervised hierarchical entropy-based clustering of the above-mentioned Chinese medicinal health products and Chinese patent medicines, five and three new formulas were obtained, respectively. The selection of Chinese herbal medicines was consistent with the principles of traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) theories in relieving acne,i. e.,dispelling exterior wind, ventilating lungs, clearing heat, dissipating mass, promoting diuresis, relaxing bowels, removing toxin, activating blood, resolving stasis, eliminating phlegm, and regulating Qi. According to the " lung governing skin and body hair" and " interior-exterior relationship between lung and large intestine" in TCM theories, the idea that acne could be treated by relieving constipation was proposed, which provided new methods and references for the research and development of Chinese medicinal health products.

RESUMEN

Aspalathus linearis is a needle-shaped shrub that grows in the Cedarberg mountains in southern South Africa, with an extremely high medicinal value. In 2014, China has approved A. linearis as a new food material. Through retrieval in CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, Web of Science, PubMed and Scopus databases, the literatures were excluded, classified and summarized. On the basis of Chinese medicine theory, the traditional Chinese medicine properties were deducted. Finally, 264 relevant li-teratures were included and classified into 6 categories: review, planting, chemical composition, clinical study, pharmacological effects and safety. The traditional Chinese medicinal properties were deducted as sweet flavor and neutral property. It enters kidney, spleen, heart and liver channels. The major functions are to tonify the kidney and benefit the essence, nourish Qi and spleen, nourish Yin and prompt the production of body fluid, tranquilize mind, and relieve pain. It can be used for soreness of the waist and fatigue, sexual disinterest, limbs heaviness, thirst due to insufficiency of fluid and internal heat, irritability and insomnia, forget fulness, stomachache, joint pain, dysmenorrhea, headache. Preparation for external use can treat eczema itching. Water decoction(2-15 g) can also be used as tea directly. This paper defined the traditional Chinese medicine properties of A. linearis, so as to provide the theoretical basis for further clinical application.

RESUMEN

The present study analyzed the current Chinese medicinal health products and Chinese patent medicines effective in boosting memory, aiming at providing references for the formulation and development of memory-boosting health products. The information on memory-boosting health products published by the Department of Special Food Safety Supervision and Management, the State Administration for Market Regulation( SAMR) was collected and the Chinese patent medicines on DRUGDATAEXPY were searched. Microsoft Excel and the TCMISS were used to statistically analyze the characteristics of formulations. A total of 212 memory-boosting health products were obtained from SAMR,including 83 ones containing Chinese medicinal materials. Twelve Chinese herbal medicines showed a usage frequency ≥ 8,with 151 times in use. In DRUGDATAEXPY,258 similar Chinese patent medicines were collected.Twelve Chinese herbal medicines showed a usage frequency ≥ 58,with 907 times in use. Through unsupervised hierarchical entropybased clustering of the above-mentioned Chinese medicinal health products and Chinese patent medicines separately,5 and 12 new formulas were obtained. The selection of Chinese herbal medicines for the new formulas was consistent with the principles of traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) theories,i. e.,tonifying kidney and marrow, benefiting Qi,nourishing Yin,resolving phlegm, and eliminating stasis. According to TCM theories, syndrome differentiation of the users was conducted, and the formulas were designed following the correspondence of syndromes with formulas and Chinese herbal medicines. This study is expected to provide new ideas and methods for the development of Chinese medicinal health products and accurately guide practical applications to exert the advantages of TCM in health care based on syndrome differentiation and improve the effect of Chinese medicinal health products.

RESUMEN

Based on the research literatures of Passiflora incarnata and the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, the paper discussed the traditional Chinese medicinal properties of P. incarnate, so as to provide a theoretical basis for the compatibility and application of P. incarnata. The literature databases of CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, Web of Science, PubMed and Scopus were selected, and the literatures relating to P. incarnata were reviewed to screen out the scientific research literatures with a high credibility, rational design and reliable conclusions. Foreign pharmacopoeia was consulted, and the listed products were summarized. The traditional Chinese medicine properties of P. incarnata were studied based on 32 clinical trials, 66 pharmacological researches, 64 chemical constituents researches as well as the theory of traditional Chinese medicine. It was preliminarily concluded that the medicinal properties of P. incarnata are sweet, cool, and enter heart, liver channels. The function is mainly to calm the heart and tranquilizing the mind, and calm the liver wind. It is used for hyperactivity of liver-Yang, stagnation of liver-Qi, restlessness of mind, depression, nervousness, insomnia. This paper summarized the source, characteristics of natures, tastes and channel tropism, usage and dosage, function indications of P. incarnata, and defined its clear traditional Chinese medicine property, which lays a theoretical foundation for the compatibility and clinical application of P. incarnata and Chinese medicine.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Adductor canal block (ACB) provides postoperative pain relief as effectively as femoral nerve block (FNB) does, and it preserves the strength of the quadriceps femoris. However, its effect on rehabilitation after arthroscopic partial meniscectomy has not been reported. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of pre-operative ACB and FNB on the quality of rehabilitation after arthroscopic partial meniscectomy. METHODS: A total of 150 patients undergoing arthroscopic partial meniscectomy were randomly allocated to the FNB group (receiving 0.3% ropivacaine 30 ml at the thighroot-femoral nerve), the ACB group (receiving 0.3% ropivacaine 30 ml at mid-thigh adductor canal), or the control group. The primary outcome was the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) knee score on the 30th postoperative day. RESULTS: The HSS knee score of the ACB group on the 30th day after the operation was significantly higher than those of the FNB and control groups (88.6 ± 5.3 vs. 85.3 ± 6.9 and 81.2 ± 5.9, respectively; P < 0.05). Both the ACB and FNB groups showed excellent rehabilitation, indicating similar rehabilitation quality for both treatments. CONCLUSION: ACB is similar to FNB concerning the quality of rehabilitation and pain relief after arthroscopic partial meniscectomy, while ACB has little effect on the strength of the quadriceps femoris. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: I TRIAL REGISTRATAION: This trial was registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR-INC-16008346).
