Background: Exercise capacity serves as a direct representation of cardiac function. The Duke Activity Status Index (DASI), a self-administered 12-item questionnaire, covers aspects of daily living, household tasks, sexual function, and physical activity. Although widely used to evaluate exercise capacity, its validation in Chinese cardiovascular disease (CVD) patients has not been thoroughly explored. Considering the significant cultural and lifestyle differences between China and Western countries, which may influence Chinese patients' comprehension and responses to DASI, our objective is to culturally adapt DASI for Chinese patients with CVD to ensure its precision in assessing exercise capacity. Methods: The cultural adaptation of the original DASI questionnaire into Chinese followed a rigorous process to ensure its validity, reliability, and sensitivity to Chinese CVD patients. The study included 107 outpatients diagnosed with CVD who completed the DASI and cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). Cronbach's alpha, Spearman correlation, and factor analysis were utilized to test reliability and validity. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was employed to assess the prognostic utility of the DASI. Results: Participants had a mean DASI score of 39.40 ± 10.75 and a peak oxygen uptake (Peak VO 2 ) of 19.53 ± 5.89 mL/min/kg. The Chinese version of the DASI exhibited satisfactory reliability and validity in CVD patients, with a Chronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.706. The DASI score demonstrated a moderate correlation with Peak VO 2 measured by CPET (r = 0.67, p < 0.001). Factor analysis yielded three factors, accounting for 56.76% of the total variance, with factor 1 contributing to 26.38% of the variance. ROC curve analysis demonstrated that the DASI exhibited discriminative utility in the identification of patients with improved long-term prognosis (p < 0.001). The ROC curve had an area of 0.788 [95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.704-0.871]. The DASI score ≥ 36.85 served as the optimal threshold for enhanced long-term prognosis, exhibiting a sensitivity of 0.80 and a specificity of 0.69. Conclusions: The culturally adapted DASI questionnaire is a straightforward and efficient tool for reasonably evaluating exercise capacity in Chinese CVD patients.

Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is a nonlinear optical phenomenon mediated from the coupling of photons and phonons. It has found applications in various realms, yet the acousto-optic interaction strength remains relatively weak. Enhancing the SBS with resonant structures could be a promising solution, but this method faces strict constraints in operational bandwidth. Here, we present the first demonstration to our knowledge of the broadband enhancement of Brillouin nonlinearities by a suspended coupled resonator optical waveguide (CROW) on an SOI platform. By comprehensively balancing the Brillouin gain and operational bandwidth, a 3-fold enhancement for the Brillouin gain coefficient (GB) and a broad operational bandwidth of over 80 GHz have been achieved. Furthermore, this 1.1 mm device shows a forward Brillouin gain coefficient of 2422 m-1W-1 and a high mechanical quality factor (Qm) of 1060. This approach marks a pivotal advancement toward wide bandwidth, low energy consumption, and compact integrated nonlinear photonic devices, with potential applications in tunable microwave photonic filters and phonon-based non-reciprocal devices.

Advancements in photonic integration technology have enabled the effective excitation of simulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) on a single chip, boosting Brillouin-based applications such as microwave photonic signal processing, narrow-linewidth lasers, and optical sensing. However, on-chip circuits still require large pump power and centimeter-scale waveguide length to achieve a considerable Brillouin gain, making them both power-inefficient and challenging for integration. Here, we exploit the slow-light effect to significantly enhance SBS, presenting the first, to the best of our knowledge, demonstration of a slow-light Brillouin-active waveguide on the silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform. By integrating a Bragg grating with a suspended ridge waveguide, a 2.1-fold enhancement of the forward Brillouin gain coefficient is observed in a 1.25 mm device. Furthermore, this device shows a Brillouin gain coefficient of 1,693 m-1W-1 and a mechanical quality factor of 1,080. The short waveguide length reduces susceptibility to inhomogeneous broadening, enabling the simultaneous achievement of a high Brillouin gain coefficient and a high mechanical quality factor. This approach introduces an additional dimension to enhance acousto-optic interaction efficiency in the SOI platform and holds significant potential for microwave photonic filters and high spatial resolution sensing.

The acousto-optic interaction known as stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) has emerged as a fundamental principle for realizing crucial components and functionalities in integrated photonics. However, the main challenge of integrating Brillouin devices is how to effectively confine both optical and acoustic waves. Apart from that, the manufacturing processes for these devices need to be compatible with standard fabrication platforms and streamlined to facilitate their large-scale integration. Here, we demonstrate a novel, to the best of our knowledge, suspended nanowire structure that can tightly confine photons and phonons. Furthermore, tailored for this structure, we introduce a loading-effect-based three-dimensional microfabrication technique, compatible with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. This innovative technique allows for the fabrication of the entire structure using a single-step lithography exposure, significantly streamlining the fabrication process. Leveraging this structure and fabrication scheme, we have achieved a Brillouin gain coefficient of 1100 W-1m-1 on the silicon-on-insulator platform within a compact footprint. It can support a Brillouin net gain over 4.1 dB with modest pump powers. We believe that this structure can significantly advance the development of SBS on chip, unlocking new opportunities for a large-scale integration of Brillouin-based photonic devices.

OBJECTIVES: The vast majority of children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) do not have access to proper diagnosis and treatment in China. The goal of this project is to identify the challenges and facilitators in implementing a Canadian ADHD Shared Care Pathways program in pediatric settings in Shanghai region. METHODS: Purposive semi-structured focus groups were conducted on a total of 13 healthcare practitioners from the Shanghai Xinuha, Ninghai and Chongming hospitals. Two independent researchers conducted a thematic analysis of the data with themes emerging based on the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR). RESULTS: Notable barriers identified by participants included: (1) lack of knowledge in the management of ADHD, primarily among general practitioners; (2) lack of resources such as lack of staff, time, and medication for ADHD; (3) challenges in implementing an international multicentre intervention (such as communication difficulties between teams and integration of resources available in different hospitals); and (4) mental health stigma, difficulties in identifying ADHD patients, and logistical problems related to medication procurement rules put in place by provincial governments. Notable facilitators included: (1) the strong motivation of stakeholders and their confidence in their ability to learn and subsequently execute action plans to achieve the implementation goal; (2) the compatibility between the values and goals of the stakeholders and those of the program despite some cultural tension, a positive learning climate, strong tensions for change, and the high interest of organization leaders in engaging in the program (3) the perceived benefits of the program, such as standardization of the diagnostic and treatment process, and engaging primary care providers in ADHD management; and (4) the strong relationship between participating institutions and schools as well as provincial health initiatives available to support collaborative models of care. Mixed factors to implementation were also explored. CONCLUSIONS: Appropriate training of health care providers, cultural adaptation of the program, increase public awareness about ADHD to decrease stigma, as well as strong project management and guidelines that clearly describe the role and expectations of each team member appeared essential to successful implementation.

Objective: This study aims to explore the association between neurological dysfunction and serum levels of Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and Interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) in patients undergoing isoflurane inhalation anesthesia. Methods: This prospective observational study enrolled a total of 88 patients who underwent isoflurane anesthesia, between April 2019 and April 2020 in our hospital's operating room. The Mini-Mental State Examination scale (MMSE) was administered on the first preoperative day (T0), the 1st postoperative day (T1), the 3rd postoperative day (T2), and the 7th postoperative day (T3). Based on the MMSE score obtained on the 1st postoperative day, patients were categorized into the neurological dysfunction group (n = 23) and the normal group (n = 65). Serum levels of IL-6 and IL-1ß were measured at T0, T1, T2, and T3, and their relationship with MMSE scores was analyzed. Results: Compared to the normal group, the neurological dysfunction group exhibited significantly higher levels of serum IL-6 and IL-1ß at all time points except T0, accompanied by notably lower MMSE scores (P < .001). Combined diagnostic parameters, including area under the curve (AUC) value, sensitivity, and specificity, showed improved performance compared to individual tests. Pearson correlation analysis revealed a negative correlation between serum IL-6 and IL-1ß levels and MMSE scores (r = -0.719, -0.408, all P < .05). Conclusions: Our findings highlight a correlation between neurological dysfunction and serum IL-6 and IL-1ß levels in patients undergoing isoflurane inhalation anesthesia. These cytokines could serve as valuable indicators for the early detection of neurological dysfunction following anesthesia.

Case studies of 1T-TiSe2 and YBa2Cu3O7-δ have demonstrated that X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies can be used to trace even subtle structural phase transitions which are inherently connected with the onset of superconductivity in these benchmark systems. However, the utility of XRD in the investigation of superconductors like MgB2 lacking an additional symmetry-breaking structural phase transition is not immediately evident. Nevertheless, high-resolution powder XRD experiments on MgB2 in combination with maximum entropy method analyses hinted at differences between the electron density distributions at room temperature and 15 K, that is, below the Tc of approx. 39 K. The high-resolution single-crystal XRD experiments in combination with multipolar refinements presented here can reproduce these results but show that the observed temperature-dependent density changes are almost entirely due to a decrease of atomic displacement parameters as a natural consequence of a reduced thermal vibration amplitude with decreasing temperature. Our investigations also shed new light on the presence or absence of magnesium vacancies in MgB2 samples─a defect type claimed to control the superconducting properties of the compound. We propose that previous reports on the tendency of MgB2 to form non-stoichiometric Mg1-xB2 phases (1 - x ∼ 0.95) during high-temperature (HT) synthesis might result from the interpretation of XRD data of insufficient resolution and/or usage of inflexible refinement models. Indeed, advanced refinements based on an Extended Hansen-Coppens multipolar model and high-resolution X-ray data, which consider explicitly the contraction of core and valence shells of the magnesium cations, do not provide any significant evidence for the formation of non-stoichiometric Mg1-xB2 phases during HT synthesis.

While protein coronas (PCs) are an important barrier in the clinical application of nanomedicines, the specific effects of PCs on nanoparticles (NPs) in vivo are unclear. Herein, we demonstrated that PCs from clinical sources greatly influenced the active targeting capacities of transferrin-modified NPs (Tf-NPs). Compared to PCs from healthy volunteers, PCs from the plasma of patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) decreased the A549 uptake of Tf-NPs to a greater degree. The PC proteome revealed that this difference may be mediated by certain proteins in plasma. To attenuate the negative influence of PCs from patients, precoating Tf-NPs with PCs derived from healthy mice significantly enhanced active targeting capacities. Paclitaxel-loaded Tf-NPs with PCs derived from healthy mice showed the strongest antitumor effects in mice with NSCLC. This work illustrates the influence of PCs of ligand-modified NPs in clinical practice and proposes the use of corona-enabled active targeting for precision nanomedicine.

The 38 kDa protein is a major antigen of mycobacterium tuberculosis and has been widely used in TB serodiagnosis, due to its highly sensitivity and specificity. Here we attempt to establish a production platform of recombinant 38 kDa protein in mammalian cells and to evaluate the potential value of 38 kDa protein in TB serodiagnosis. The 38 kDa gene is synthesized and cloned into a lentiviral expressing vector. Recombinant lentiviral vector LV-CMV-38 kDa-eGFP was packaged, titered, and then transduced into HEK 293 T cells. Recombinant cell lines were selected by limiting dilution. Supernatants were collected and purified by HisTrapTM HP column. Western blot showed a molecular weight of approximate 38 kDa in cell supernatants as expected. ELISA assay confirmed the immunological specificity of the obtained protein in the presence of MTB-infected human serum samples. In all, we have obtained a stable cell line with long-term and robust expression of secretory MTB 38 kDa protein, which may provide a promising candidate antigen for the development of TB serological diagnosis.

Multienzyme detection and monitoring enzyme activity in situ are significant for the disease to diagnose. This study aims to develop a quantum dots (QDs)-based nanoprobe Cyanine5-DDDLEVLFQFPGLVPRGSGGHHHHHH-QDs (Cy5-LEVLVP-QD), which is able to detect two enzymes inside a bent capillary using CE. Cy5-LEVLVP and QDs were allowed to bind with each other through metal affinity interaction and then injected the Cy5-LEVLVP-QD complex into a capillary with different bends, followed by related enzyme that can cleave the Cy5-LEVLVP peptide. The fluorescence of Cy5 was excited by QDs due to Förster resonance energy transfer. By monitoring the peaks produced by the original Cy5-LEVLVP-QD complex and a significant fluorescence change, sensitive analysis of two different enzymes was conducted. Therefore, the novel approach of using capillaries with semicircular bends could prove particularly useful for enzyme investigating in disease.

BACKGROUND: Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological problems among children. The aim of this survey was to assess the knowledge and attitude among preschool staff in Shanghai regarding epilepsy. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was carried out among the staff at selected preschools. A stratified random sampling method was first used to identify suitable subjects. Data were obtained using a self-completed questionnaire. A standardized collection of demographic information was performed, and participants were given a questionnaire about their knowledge and attitudes regarding epilepsy. RESULTS: A total of 1069 subjects completed the questionnaire. In this survey, 387 (36.2%) staff members had previously participated in related training. 17.6% of teachers knew how to provide appropriate first aid for seizures. Correct responses regarding first aid for seizures, such as laying the person on his or her side (24.9%), moving harmful objects out of the way (20.7%), protecting the head (36.1%), waiting until the seizure ends (7.9%), and dialing the emergency number (40.1%), were low. The staff members had different attitudes towards children with epilepsy: some subjects had a positive attitude, some had a negative attitude. CONCLUSIONS: The level of first-aid knowledge among preschool staff in Shanghai relevant to epilepsy was low. There is an urgent need to educate staff about epilepsy and appropriate first-aid practices for seizures.

OBJECTIVE: As two common neurodevelopmental disorders, autistic spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder frequently occur together. Until now, only a few studies have investigated the co-occurrence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autistic spectrum disorder, this is due to restrictions associated with previous Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision. Most previous research has focused on the developmental trajectories for autistic spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder separately, while the neural mechanisms underpinning the co-occurrence of autistic spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder remain largely unknown. METHODS: We studied 162 autistic spectrum disorder individuals (including 79 co-attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and 83 non-attention deficit hyperactivity disorder patients) and 177 typical developing individuals using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data from the Autism Brain Imaging Data Exchange II, an aggregated magnetic resonance imaging dataset from 19 centers. Independent component analysis was used to extract sub-networks from the classic resting-state networks. Functional connectivity values within (intra-iFC) and between (inter-iFC) these networks were then determined. Subsequently, we compared the ASD_coADHD group with the ASD_nonADHD group in relation to the abnormal intra-iFC and inter-iFC of autistic spectrum disorder group relative to the typical developing group. RESULTS: The ASD_coADHD group showed more severe social impairment and decreased intra-iFC in the bilateral posterior cingulate cortex of the default mode network (independent component 17) and increased inter-iFC between the default mode network (independent component 8) and the somatomotor networks (independent component 2) compared to the ASD_nonADHD group. In addition, the strength of the intra-iFC in the default mode network was associated with the severity of autistic traits across the entire autistic spectrum disorder group and particularly the ASD_coADHD group. CONCLUSION: Our results showed that dysfunction of the default mode network is a central feature in the co-occurrence of autistic spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, including connectivity within the default mode network as well as between the default mode network and the somatomotor networks, thus supporting the existence of a clinically combined phenotype (autistic spectrum disorder + attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

In this study we aim to extensively investigate the anti-influenza virus immune responses in human pharyngeal epithelial cell line (Hep-2) and evaluate the protective role of Toll-like receptor (TLR) ligands in seasonal influenza A H1N1 (sH1N1) infections in vitro. We first investigated the expression of the TLRs and cytokines genes in resting and sH1N1 infected Hep-2 cells. Clear expressions of TLR3, TLR9, interleukin (IL)-6, tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interferon (IFN)-ß were detected in resting Hep-2 cells. After sH1N1 infection, a ten-fold of TLR3 and TLR9 were elicited. Concomitant with the TLRs activation, transcriptional expression of IL-6, TNF-α and IFN-ß were significantly induced in sH1N1-infected cells. Pre-treatment of cells with poly I:C (an analog of viral double-stranded RNA) and CpG-ODN (a CpG-motif containing oligodeoxydinucleotide) resulted in a strong reduction of viral and cytokines mRNA expression. The results presented indicated the innate immune response activation in Hep-2 cells and affirm the antiviral role of Poly I:C and CpG-ODN in the protection against seasonal influenza A viruses.

Empowering independent control of optical and acoustic modes and enhancing the photon-phonon interaction, integrated photonics boosts the advancements of on-chip stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). However, achieving acoustic waveguides with low loss, tailorability, and easy fabrication remains a challenge. Here, inspired by the optical anti-resonance in hollow-core fibers and acoustic anti-resonance in cylindrical waveguides, we propose suspended anti-resonant acoustic waveguides (SARAWs) with superior confinement and high selectivity of acoustic modes, supporting both forward and backward SBS on chip. Furthermore, this structure streamlines the design and fabrication processes. Leveraging the advantages of SARAWs, we showcase a series of breakthroughs for SBS within a compact footprint on the silicon-on-insulator platform. For forward SBS, a centimeter-scale SARAW supports a large net gain exceeding 6.4 dB. For backward SBS, we observe an unprecedented Brillouin frequency shift of 27.6 GHz and a mechanical quality factor of up to 1960 in silicon waveguides. This paradigm of acoustic waveguide propels SBS into a new era, unlocking new opportunities in the fields of optomechanics, phononic circuits, and hybrid quantum systems.

Irisin is a recently discovered myokine that facilitates the browning of white adipose tissue, increases glucose uptake in skeletal muscle, and influences metabolic processes in the liver. However, its potential effects on amino acid absorption remained largely unexplored. This study aimed to elucidate the role of irisin in modulating amino acid uptake and delineate the underlying molecular mechanisms involved. To this end, juvenile tilapia were administered intraperitoneal irisin injections at 100 ng/g body weight over 8 weeks. Evaluation of various physiological parameters revealed that irisin supplementation significantly improved the specific growth rate and feed conversion efficiency while reducing feed consumption. Muscle tissue analysis revealed that irisin significantly modified the proximate composition by increasing protein content and reducing lipid levels. It also significantly raised the levels of both essential and non-essential amino acids in the muscle. Histological analysis demonstrated that irisin-stimulated muscle growth through hyperplasia rather than hypertrophy, corroborated by upregulated IGF-1 mRNA and downregulated myostatin mRNA expression. Mechanistic studies in cultured tilapia muscle cells elucidated that irisin activated integrin receptors on muscle cells, which subsequently engaged IGF-1/IGF-1R signaling. Downstream of IGF-1R activation, irisin simultaneously stimulates the ERK1/2 and PI3K/mTORC2/Akt pathways. The convergence of these pathways upregulates L-type amino acid transporter 1 expression, thereby augmenting amino acid uptake into muscle cells. In summary, irisin supplementation in tilapia leads to improved muscle growth, predominantly via hyperplasia and augmented amino acid assimilation, governed by intricate cellular signaling pathways. These findings provide valuable aquaculture applications and novel insights into muscle development.

BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia is widely recognized as an age-related syndrome that involves a progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and muscle strength. Many studies have shown that sarcopenia is associated with disease severity and exercise intolerance, as well as an independent predictor of mortality in patients with chronic heart failure. However, there is little research on the impact of sarcopenia on patients hospitalized with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF). METHODS: This is a prospective, multicentre, observational cohort study. Enrolment of at least 500 participants adults aged over 18 years hospitalized for ADHF is planned, with a minimum of 195 cases each for patients with and without sarcopenia. Each patient is followed up for 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or until the occurrence of endpoint. The primary clinical outcome is all-cause mortality at 6 months. Other clinical outcomes of interest include cardiovascular mortality, all-cause hospitalization, heart failure hospitalization and survival time from enrolment to event occurrence. The sympathetic nervous activity, psychosocial factors, quality of life, physical function, and physical activity will be assessed and recorded at baseline. This study will examine the correlation between sarcopenia and prognosis in different subgroups of patients, and explore the additive effect of different comorbidities and sarcopenia on prognosis in patients with ADHF. CONCLUSIONS: This study will provide important information and evidence on the clinical aspects of sarcopenia in patients with ADHF, potentially contributing to accurate risk stratification and optimal clinical management for patients with ADHF. As an indispensable part of the human sensory system, visual acuity may be impaired and even develop into irreversible blindness due to various ocular pathologies. Among ocular diseases, fundus neovascularization diseases (FNDs) are prominent etiologies of visual impairment worldwide. Intravitreal injection of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs remains the primary therapy but is hurdled by common complications and incomplete potency. To renovate the current therapeutic modalities, nanomedicine emerged as the times required, which is endowed with advanced capabilities, able to fulfill the effective ocular fundus drug delivery and achieve precise drug release control, thus further improving the therapeutic effect. This review provides a comprehensive summary of advances in nanomedicine for FND management from state-of-the-art studies. First, the current therapeutic modalities for FNDs are thoroughly introduced, focusing on the key challenges of ocular fundus drug delivery. Second, nanocarriers are comprehensively reviewed for ocular posterior drug delivery based on the nanostructures: polymer-based nanocarriers, lipid-based nanocarriers, and inorganic nanoparticles. Thirdly, the characteristics of the fundus microenvironment, their pathological changes during FNDs, and corresponding strategies for constructing smart nanocarriers are elaborated. Furthermore, the challenges and prospects of nanomedicine for FND management are thoroughly discussed.

Infectious keratitis is among the major causes of global blindness. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) images allow the characterizing of cross-sectional structures in the cornea with keratitis thus revealing the severity of inflammation, and can also provide 360-degree information on anterior chambers. The development of image analysis methods for such cases, particularly deep learning methods, requires a large number of annotated images, but to date, there is no such open-access AS-OCT image repository. For this reason, this work provides a dataset containing a total of 1168 AS-OCT images of patients with keratitis, including 768 full-frame images (6 patients). Each image has associated segmentation labels for lesions and cornea, and also labels of iris for full-frame images. This study provides a great opportunity to advance the field of image analysis on AS-OCT images in both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) and would aid in the development of artificial intelligence-based keratitis management.

Retinal neovascularization (RNV), a typical pathological manifestation involved in most neovascular diseases, causes retinal detachment, vision loss, and ultimately irreversible blindness. Repeated intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF drugs were developed against RNV, with limitations of incomplete responses and adverse effects. Therefore, a new treatment with a better curative effect and more prolonged dosage is demanding. Here, we induced macrophage polarization to anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype by inhibiting cGAS-STING signaling with an antagonist C176, appreciating the role of cGAS-STING signaling in the retina in pro-inflammatory M1 polarization. C176-loaded and phosphatidylserine-modified dendritic mesoporous silica nanoparticles were constructed and examined by a single intravitreal injection. The biosafe nanoparticles were phagocytosed by retinal macrophages through a phosphatidylserine-mediated "eat me" signal, which persistently release C176 to suppress STING signaling and thereby promote macrophage M2 polarization specifically. A single dosage can effectively alleviate pathological angiogenesis phenotypes in murine oxygen-induced retinopathy models. In conclusion, these C176-loaded nanoparticles with enhanced cell uptake and long-lasting STING inhibition effects might serve as a promising way for treating RNV.

The relationship between social support and mortality, especially cardio-cerebrovascular mortality, still has some limitations in the assessment of social support, sample selection bias, and short follow-up time. We used the data from 2005 to 2008 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to examine this relationship. The study analyzed a total of 6776 participants, divided into Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3 according to the social support score (0-1; 2-3; 4-5). Multivariable adjusted COX regression analyses of our study showed that Group 3 and Group 2 had a reduced risk of all-cause and cardio-cerebrovascular mortality (Group 3 vs 1, HR: 0.55, P < 0.001; HR: 0.4, P < 0.001; Group 2 vs 1, HR: 0.77, P = 0.017; HR: 0.58, P = 0.014) compared with Group 1. The same results were observed after excluding those who died in a relatively short time. Additionally, having more close friends, being married or living as married, and enough attending religious services were significantly related to a lower risk of mortality after adjustment. In brief, adequate social support is beneficial in reducing the risk of all-cause mortality and cardio-cerebrovascular mortality in middle-aged and older adults, especially in terms of attending religious services frequency, the number of close friends, and marital status.
