RESUMEN

Chronic wounds have become the leading cause of death, particularly among diabetic patients. Chronic wounds affect ~6.5 million patients each year, according to statistics, and wound care and management incur significant financial costs. The rising prevalence of chronic wounds, combined with the limitations of current treatments, necessitates the development of new and innovative approaches to accelerate wound healing. Copper has been extensively studied for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities. Copper in its nanoparticle form could have better biological properties and many applications in health care.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To assess the efficacy and safety of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and portal vein radioactive seed insertion (RSI) combination in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT). MATERIAL AND METHODS: The relevant databases were searched from the earliest to January 2021. The endpoints included treatment response, treatment side effects, and overall survival (OS). RESULTS: Nine studies were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled total response (TR, p = 0.55) and disease control (DC, p = 0.13) rates for HCC were similar between the two treatment groups. The pooled TR (p = 0.0004) and DC (p < 0.0001) rates for PVTT were both significantly higher in the TACE with portal vein RSI group than in the TACE without portal vein RSI group. The pooled HR for OS was significantly better in the TACE with portal vein RSI group than in the TACE without portal vein RSI group (p < 0.00001). The pooled rates of fever (p = 0.97), vomiting (p = 0.64), and myelosuppression (p = 0.65) were similar between the two groups. CONCLUSION: Compared to traditional TACE, TACE combined with portal vein RSI can effectively prolong the patients' OS and decrease PVTT disease progression.

RESUMEN

Tantalate semiconductor nanocrystals have been at the forefront of the photocatalytic conversion of solar energy to supply hydrogen owing to their favorable and tunable optical and electronic properties as well as advances in their synthesis. However, a narrow band gap is required for response to improve the efficiency of the photocatalysts. Here we propose an efficient enhancement of the H2 generation under simulated sunlight and visible light irradiation by a dispersion of Ag-decorated KTaO3 and NaTaO3 nanocubes. X-ray diffraction and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra are used to characterize the products. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and high-resolution high-angle annular dark-field scanning TEM (HAADF-STEM) images show that the Ag nanoparticles (NPs) are uniformly loaded on the surfaces of KTaO3 and NaTaO3. The photocatalytic water-splitting results over Ag-decorated KTaO3 and NaTaO3 show that the rate for H2 evolution from aqueous CH3OH solutions is up to 185.60 and 3.54 µmol/h·g under simulated sunlight and the rate for H2 evolution is more than 2 times than that of pure NaTaO3 and KTaO3 materials. However, under purely visible light illumination the highest H2 evolution of 25.94 and 0.83 µmol/h·g is observed in the case of Ag-decorated KTaO3 and NaTaO3 nanocubes. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that the photocatalytic water-splitting activity of the prepared Ag-decorated KTaO3 and NaTaO3 nanocubes has been reported.

Purpose: Thoracolumbar fascia injury is often associated with poor early pain relief after percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP). This study will evaluate the effects of thoracolumbar fascia injury on early pain relief and time to get out of bed after PVP. Methods: A total of 132 patients treated with PVP for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF) were included and divided into injured group (52 cases) and non-injured group (80 cases) according to the existence of thoracolumbar fascia injury. Before surgery, 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months after surgery, and at the last follow-up, the primary patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were the visual analogue scale (VAS) of pain while rolling over and standing, and the secondary PROMs was the Oswestry disability index (ODI). Meanwhile, the achieved rate of minimal clinically important differences (MCID) and patient acceptable symptom states (PASS) of the above measures in both groups was evaluated at the last follow-up. Results: Except for the postoperative 3 months and the last follow-up, there were statistically significant differences in VAS-standing and ODI between the two groups at other time points after surgery (P < 0.05), and the non-injured group was significantly better than the injured group. At the last follow-up, there was no statistically significant difference in the MCID and PASS achievement rates of the above measures between the two groups (P > 0.05). In addition, the proportion of patients who got out of bed 1 and 3 days after surgery in the non-injury group was significantly higher than that in the injury group (P = 0.000 for both). Conclusion: Thoracolumbar fascia injury significantly affected early pain relief and extended time of getting out of bed after PVP. Attention should be paid to preoperative evaluation of thoracolumbar fascial injury in order to better predict the postoperative efficacy of PVP.

High quality High-κ dielectrics on graphene were achieved by atomic layer deposition directly using remote oxygen plasma surface pretreatment. The uniform coverage on graphene is illustrated by atomic force microscopy and confirmed by high resolution transmission microscopy. The possible surface lattice damage induced by plasma is limited and demonstrated by Raman spectra. The excellent Hall mobility for graphene is maintained at 2.7 × 10(3) cm(2)/V · s, which only decreases by 25%. The excellent electrical characteristic of dielectric presents the low leakage current density and high breakdown voltage. Moreover, the technology is compatible with the traditional CMOS process which brings much possibility to future graphene devices.
