The purpose of the study was to find differences in the parameters of the response to the blink reflex (BR) between patients with idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia (TN) and health volunteers. A prospective cohort study was conducted over 2 years. The TN-subgroup included 15 patients (mean age / SD 62.3 ± 10.7 years). Pain-free and healthy volunteers as a HV-subgroup (mean age / SD: 30.8 ± 8.1 years) were recruited from asymptomatic students of dental medicine. Diagnostic parameters were determined by measuring latency to the onset of the BR components from electric stimulation. The following branches of the trigeminal nerve were affected: maxillary branch only (26.7%), mandibular branch only (20%), combined: ophthalmic branch with maxillary branch (6.7%), and ophthalmic branch with mandibular branch (6.7%) respectively, combined maxillary and mandibular branch (26.7%) and affected all three branches (13.4%). The latencies of the BR, left and right side together, between subgroups were significantly higher for values R1 (homolateral early response), R2 (homolateral late response), R2c latency (contralaterally expressed response) in the TN-subgroup (p < 0.05). On the basis of the presence of R1c and R3 latencies and upon considering the abnormal findings of the BR, no statistically significant differences were found between the examined subgroups (p > 0.05). Blink-reflex parameters (R1, R2 and R2c) were significantly abnormal comparing TN-patients with healthy volunteers. The R3 component of the BR was related to noxious stimuli, likewise by innocuous stimuli.

BACKGROUND: Computerized tomography (CT) severity scores are frequently used as an objective staging tool in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has also been proposed as a valid option in CRS imaging. PURPOSE: The aim of this systematic review was to briefly present the recent developments on sinus imaging utilized in clinical practice with regard to diagnostic accuracy of imaging and severity staging in CRS according to evidence-based medicine (EBM) principles. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This review paper has been assembled following PRISMA guidelines. A PubMed and Scopus (EMBASE) search using CRS, "severity staging", "diagnostic accuracy "and "imaging "resulted with 80 results. Of these, only 12 (59%) contained original data, constituting the synthesis of best-quality available evidence. RESULTS: CT is the most commonly used imaging technique for the severity staging of CRS, but a question of higher cumulative radiation dose should be taken into consideration when repeating CT examinations in evaluating treatment efficacy. MRI may be a complementary diagnostic and staging tool, especially when repeated examinations are required, or when paediatric CRS patients are evaluated. The severity staging system may be improved to better correlate with subjective scores. CONCLUSIONS: MRI may be utilized as a staging tool with comparable diagnostic accuracy, using the same staging systems as with CT examinations.

RESUMEN

The aim of the paper was to describe the multidimensional character of alcoholism and its effects on oral health, with a review of the relation between the traumatogenic factor of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and bruxism development. The difference between moderate drinking and the development of alcohol addiction which leads to alcoholism-related medical, social, legal and economic issues is not always clear. Alcoholism is often hidden within the private and wider social framework of a patient. Oral diseases are easy to notice in recorded alcoholics as well as in, for example, smokers. TMDs consist of a disorder of masticatory muscles and/or a disorder of temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Since the traumatogenic factor of individuals under the influence of alcohol is clearly evident, it can potentially become an initializing factor of TMJ disorder's clinical signs and symptoms development. A modern approach to the etiopathogenesis is to include the multifactorial model, that is, combinations of potential factors with various individual importances. In everyday dental practice, co-morbidities of oral diseases and alcoholism are expected more often, as well as oral diseases with their etiopathogenesis partially related to alcohol use.

RESUMEN

For many years, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was contraindicated in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED). Today, there is a growing amount of evidence that MRI can be performed safely in the majority of patients with CIEDs. Firstly, there are devices considered MRI conditional by manufacturers that are available on the market and secondly, there is clear evidence that even patients with MRI non-conditional devices can also undergo MRI safely. Protocols have been developed and recommendations from different cardiac and radiologic societies have been published in recent years. However, the majority of physicians are still reluctant to refer these patients to MRI. Therefore, this document is published as a joint statement of the Croatian Working Group on Arrhythmias and Cardiac Pacing and Department of Radiology, Sestre milosrdnice University Hospital Centre to guide and ease the management of patients with CIED undergoing MRI. Also, we propose a unified protocol and checklist that could be used in Croatian hospitals.

The concept of diagnostics and therapy of musculoskeletal and neuropathic diseases of the stomatognathic system, which are the subject of this paper, has been developing for decades. It can be said that in order to avoid misunderstanding, the orofacial pain as a clinical problem, in the narrower sense, involves non-odontogenic and non-malignant causes of orofacial region. In this study, the results of clinical diagnosis of the population of 557 consecutive patients with orofacial pain based on multidisciplinary diagnostics were evaluated. 15.6% of patients have given up on the participation in the study. It has been shown that the patients who dropped out of the study were significantly older (p=0.0411) than those who agreed to participate, but there was no difference in gender ratio (p=0.185) since the proportion of female patients prevailed. In an analysis of 84.4% of patients participating in the study, the elevated anxiety values were established (mean value on STAI 1 was 39.2 and STAI 2 was 41.1) and statistical significance was found in correlation between elevated anxiety and intensity of pain as shown on visual analogue scale on open mouth (p<0.0001). Compared to the age, the statistical significance was for STAI 1 (p=0.0097) but not for STAI 2 (p=0.5599). The most common form of therapy is Michigan stabilization splint: for disc displacement of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in 38.9% of patients and in combination with physiotherapy in 18.7% of patients; for osteoarthritis of TMJ in 28.4% and in combination with physiotherapy in 26.4% of patients. The treatment with anticonvulsant drugs for trigeminal neuralgia predominates in 54.3% of patients, which is combined with acupuncture in 25.7% of patients and only acupuncture in 17.1% of patients. In this study, a multidisciplinary co-operation in initial diagnostics and differential was designed to develop subspecialist knowledge on orofacial pain.

The paper aimed to determine the incidence of colonization of Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae type b and Neisseria meningitidis in the nasopharynges of healthy children in two preschool institutions during winter and spring months, without using antimicrobial treatment or serotyping of these bacteria. In addition to colonization of the above bacteria, the research that continued for 3 months monitored the length of their persistence in and disappearance from children's nasopharynges, children's health statuses, and provision of adequate medical interventions in children demonstrating clinical signs of disease. The ultimate aim of the paper was based on contributing to clearer and more accurate determination of a medical procedure in case of a positive result for bacteria intended to be found in the nasopharynx of a healthy child who spends time in a preschool institution.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference between disc and condyle position between temporomandibular joints (TMJs) without disc displacement (DD) in asymptomatic volunteers, and patients who have DD in contralateral joints, respectively unilateral DD. Secondly, there were two TMJ groups which consisted of measurements from patients' symptomatic DD and volunteers with asymptomatic DD. The study included 79 TMJs of 40 patients with unilateral DD. In the group of 25 asymptomatic volunteers, 20 volunteers were without DD bilaterally (40 joints), while five had DD in at least one TMJ. All subjects were examined clinically and DD was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. Left and right TMJs were analysed independently for each participant based on their DD status (symptomatic, asymptomatic, and without DD). All asymptomatic TMJs did not have any clinical signs of TMJ functional abnormalities. There was a significant statistical difference between disc position among TMJs without DD in asymptomatic volunteers and TMJs without DD in patients (p = 0.016). Moreover, no significant differences were found between condyle position in the same groups of joints (p = 0.706). There were no significant differences in the DD position (p = 0.918) or condyle position (p = 0.453) between the group with asymptomatic volunteers' joints and the group with symptomatic patients' joints. There was a significant difference between patient and volunteers' joints without DD: the disc was positioned more anteriorly in patients' joints without DD than in joints of asymptomatic volunteers without DD.

The most commonly used staging system for cervical cancer is based on the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging system. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been accepted as the optimal tool for evaluation of the main prognostic factors and selection of therapeutic strategy. The purpose of this study was to compare the preoperative clinical examination FIGO staging findings with MRI and postoperative pathology report in females with primary cancer of the cervix. The study prospectively included 46 females consecutively hospitalized at the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the "Sestre milosrdnice" University Hospital Center in Zagreb. Interviews, clinical examination, transvaginal ultrasound and MRI were performed in all patients. In selected patients the surgical procedure was done and the correlation of clinical findings according to FIGO classifications, MRI and histopathological findings was completed. According to FIGO classification, positive clinical findings for stage IIA were found in 26/46 (55.5%) and stage IIB in 20/46 (44.5%)patients. FIGO MR modified classification confirmed stage IIA in 30/46 (66.6%) and stage IIB in 16/46 (33.4%) patients. Surgery (Wertheim radical hysterectomy with bilateral pelvic and selective para-aortic lymphadenectomy) was performed in 33/46 (71%) patients with clinically, MR, cytologically and pathohistologically confirmed findings of cervical cancer: 26 patients with IIA clinically FIGO stage and 7 with IIB stage. MRI examination proved better than clinical examination in staging of cervical carcinoma with 90.9% versus 79.0% accuracy rate. We suggest the application of the following MR protocol in all clinically staged FIGO IIA and IIB patients: T1W, T2WI and postcontrast dynamic T1WI after 3 and 60 seconds and after 5 minutes, performed on 1.5T MR machine.

Objectives: The study aimed to determine the relationship between the mandibular asymmetry index according to Kjellberg between patients with painful unilateral anterior disc displacement (DD) and asymptomatic volunteers without disc displacement. Vertical measurements were performed on a panoramic single-image radiograph, and the disc status was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Material and methods: Two groups of subjects were retrospectively selected, 40 patients (the overall mean age was 35.5 years; 75% female) with temporomandibular disorder symptoms confirmed by RDC/TMD axis I and manual functional analysis. Unilateral DD was determined by MRI. A comparative group of asymptomatic volunteers (20 dental students with a mean age of 23.4 years; 72% female) had the physiological position of the disc determined by MRI. The vertical asymmetry of the condyle was determined by the method of Kjellberg et al. The symmetry of the gonial angle of the mandible was also measured. Results: A comparison of the mean of the asymmetry index between patients (average 90.89±7.08%) and asymptomatic volunteers (mean 95.86±4.44%) showed a statistically significant difference (p=0.0029). There was no difference (p=0.088) in gonial angle symmetry between the patients (mean 96.48±2.96°) and the asymptomatic volunteers (mean 97.52±2.31°). The distribution of the presence of individual DD diagnoses (partial and total displacement with reduction, displacement without reduction) in patients diagnosed with asymmetry of the mandible was without statistical significance (p>0.05). Conclusion: This study actually points to the asymmetry of the mandible as a potential morphological risk of anterior DD.

Donepezil nasal delivery strategies are being continuously investigated for advancing therapy in Alzheimer's disease. The aim of this study was to develop a chitosan-based, donepezil-loaded thermogelling formulation tailored to meet all the requirements for efficient nose-to-brain delivery. A statistical design of the experiments was implemented for the optimisation of the formulation and/or administration parameters, with regard to formulation viscosity, gelling and spray properties, as well as its targeted nasal deposition within the 3D-printed nasal cavity model. The optimised formulation was further characterised in terms of stability, in vitro release, in vitro biocompatibility and permeability (using Calu-3 cells), ex vivo mucoadhesion (using porcine nasal mucosa), and in vivo irritability (using slug mucosal irritation assay). The applied research design resulted in the development of a sprayable donepezil delivery platform characterised by instant gelation at 34 °C and olfactory deposition reaching a remarkably high 71.8% of the applied dose. The optimised formulation showed prolonged drug release (t1/2 about 90 min), mucoadhesive behaviour, and reversible permeation enhancement, with a 20-fold increase in adhesion and a 1.5-fold increase in the apparent permeability coefficient in relation to the corresponding donepezil solution. The slug mucosal irritation assay demonstrated an acceptable irritability profile, indicating its potential for safe nasal delivery. It can be concluded that the developed thermogelling formulation showed great promise as an efficient donepezil brain-targeted delivery system. Furthermore, the formulation is worth investigating in vivo for final feasibility confirmation.

The nasal route has been investigated as a promising alternative for drug delivery to the central nervous system, avoiding passage through the blood-brain barrier and improving bioavailability. In this sense, it is necessary to develop and test the effectiveness of new formulations proposed for the management of neurological disorders. Thereby, the aim of this work was to develop and characterize an ion sensitive in situ hydrogel containing diazepam-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (DZP-NLC) for nasal delivery in the treatment of epilepsy. Physical characterization of the developed formulations was performed and included the evaluation of rheological features, particle size, polydispersity index (PDI) and zeta potential (ZP) of an in situ hydrogel containing DZP-NLC. Afterwards, in vitro drug release, in vitro mucoadhesion and biocompatibility studies with RPMI 2650 nasal cells were performed. The in situ hydrogel containing DZP-NLC was aerosolized with a nasal spray device specifically designed for nose-to-brain delivery (VP7 multidose spray pump with a 232 N2B actuator) and characterized for droplet size distribution and spray cone angle. Finally, the deposition pattern of this hydrogel was evaluated in a 3D-printed human nasal cavity model. The developed in situ hydrogel containing DZP-NLC presented adequate characteristics for nasal administration, including good gelling ability, mucoadhesiveness and prolonged drug release. In addition, after inclusion in the hydrogel net, the particle size (81.79 ± 0.53 nm), PDI (0.21 ± 0.10) and ZP (-30.90 ± 0.10 mV), of the DZP-NLC remained appropriate for nose-to-brain delivery. Upon aerosolization in a nasal spray device, a suitable spray cone angle (22.5 ± 0.2°) and adequate droplet size distribution (Dv (90) of 317.77 ± 44.12 µm) were observed. Biocompatibility studies have shown that the developed formulation is safe towards RPMI 2650 cells in concentrations up to 100 µg/mL. Deposition studies on a 3D-printed human nasal cavity model revealed that the best nasal deposition profile was obtained upon formulation administration without airflow and at an angle from horizontal plane of 75°, resulting in 47% of administered dose deposited in the olfactory region and 89% recovery. The results of this study suggested that the intranasal administration of the developed in situ hydrogel containing DZP-NLC could be a promising alternative to the conventional treatments for epilepsy.

The problem of low back pain (LBP) in children is very common and many specialists are dealing with it in everyday practice. The cause for low back pain often is not found and classified under the diagnosis of non specific low back pain. The objective of this prospective study is to determine wether children with non specific low back pain and existence of anomalies in LS spine (transitional vertebra- TV and/or Spina bifida occulta SBO) also have the degeneration of the intervertebral disc (DD) L4-L5 and/or L5-S1. This prospective study included 69 patients from 8 to 16 years of age (X 12.81) of whom 40 were male (57.97%), and 29 female (42.03%). They all were examinated in University of Zagreb, "Sestre milosrdnice" University Hospital Center, Zagreb Children's Hospital, Department of Orthopaedic, Zagreb, Croatia. The reason of their visit was non specific low back pain. Pain was measured by visual analog scale (VAS) and mean score was three, duration of pain was between two and four weeks. Also, pain was sporadic, during daytime and not connected with level of physical activity. They all have undergone an algorithm of radiological examinations. Standard AP and LL radiographs (RTG) were made, as well as magnetic resonance (MR) of LS spine and sacrum in sagittal and transversal plane in T1 and T2 weighted sequence. The anomalies of L5 and S1 were found in 65 patients: transitional vertebra classified according to Castellvi et al. and SBO. In MRI in T2 weighted sequence DD was found in 61 patients which was classified modified from Pearce. Data analysis and comparison showed that 56patients with TV and/or SBO have changes on vertebral dynamic segment L5-S1 (VDS) and that means DD. In 13 patients only DD or spinal anomaly (TV and/or SBO) were found. Correlation between anomalies and DD in those patients was established by McNemar analysis and has shown significant difference (p=0.581) in favour of the patients with anomaly and DD. This has established that all of 56 patients with spinal anomaly could have DD as known cause of LBP.

Clinical and radiological findings were compared between the patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of temporomandibularjoint (TMJ) with or without disc displacement (DD), and asymptomatic volunteers. This study included 30 patients with OA of TMJs (mean age 52.6). All the patients were examined clinically by manual functional analysis and using magnetic resonance imaging. The inclusion criteria for patients comprised: pain referred to the TMJ and/or crepitation in the TMJ. A second group consisted of 20 asymptomatic dental school students (mean age 23.5). There is a statistically significant difference between degenerative changes of the condyle of TMJs with and without clinical signs of OA of patients (p=0.009). In 28% of osteoarthritic joints, flattening of condylar joint surfaces was observed and 17.4% of the joints were without clinical signs of OA. Osteophyte formations were found in 8% of asymptomatic and 25.7% of osteoarthritic patients' joints. There is a statistically significant difference between patients' TMJs with and without OA (p=0.0003): pronounced shape loss and severe sclerosation of the articular eminence were found in 12% of the joints without OA, and 42.9% of joints with OA. There is no difference between students' joints and patients' TMJs without OA (p=0.804). The most common imaging findings of osteoarthritic TMJs were sclerosis of the condyle and osteophyte formation.

Introduction: Orthopantomography is amongst the most commonly used dental imaging modalities. Calcifications in the projection of carotids on orthopantomographs are found in 3-15% of general population and commonly represent calcified atherosclerotic plaques. Carotid atherosclerotic changes are one of the most frequent causes of stroke, which is the second most common cause of death and the leading cause of disability globally. Our aim was to determine the relationship between calcifications in the projection of carotids on orthopantomographs, carotid stenosis and stroke, and the correlation between stroke risk factors, calcifications on orthopantomographs and the degree of carotid stenosis. Materials and methods: Doppler ultrasound and brain MRI were performed in 41 patients with unilateral or bilateral calcifications on orthopantomographs. Anamnestic data relevant to stroke risk were gathered. Results: Significant stenosis >50% was found in almost 15% of our patients. There was a significant correlation between hypertension and carotid calcifications. No statistically significant correlation between calcifications and significant stenosis was found. Patients with previous stroke were approximiately 5 years older than those without stroke. Conclusion: Preliminary results show no statistically significant correlation between calcifications on orthopantomography and significant carotid stenosis, but further investigation is needed.

Shortcomings of oral donepezil administration in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease have paved the way for ongoing investigations towards more efficient and safe donepezil nose-to-brain delivery. Herein we present the development of advantageous powder platform for donepezil nose-to-brain delivery, coupling careful design of chitosan and mannitol-based carrier matrix with spray-drying technology advantages and early consideration of adequate nasal administration mode, employing QbD approach. Unprecedentedly, ultrasonic nozzle was used to atomise the drying feed in response to size-related requirements for nasal aerosol particles. The optimised spray-drying process resulted in free-flowable dry powder with a great majority of particles larger than 10 µm, ensuring localised nasal deposition upon aerosolization, as evidenced by using 3D-printed nasal cavity model. QbD approach coupling formulation, process and administration parameters enabled optimisation of drug deposition profile reaching tremendously high 65.5 % of the applied dose deposited in the olfactory region. The leading formulation exhibited favourable swelling, mucoadhesion, drug release and permeation-enhancing properties, suiting the needs for efficient brain-targeted delivery. Results of in vitro biocompatibility and physico-chemical stability studies confirmed the leading formulation potential for safe and efficient donepezil nose-to-brain delivery. The obtained results encourage extending the study to an appropriate in vivo model needed for the final proof-of-concept.

In this work we present the development of in situ gelling nanosuspension as advanced form for fluticasone propionate nasal delivery. Drug nanocrystals were prepared by wet milling technique. Incorporation of drug nanocrystals into polymeric in situ gelling system with pectin and sodium hyaluronate as constitutive polymers was fine-tuned attaining appropriate formulation surface tension, viscosity and gelling ability. Drug nanonisation improved the release profile and enhanced formulation mucoadhesive properties. QbD approach combining formulation and administration parameters resulted in optimised nasal deposition profile, with 51.8% of the dose deposited in the middle meatus, the critical region in the treatment of rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis. Results obtained in biocompatibility and physico-chemical stability studies confirmed the leading formulation potential for safe and efficient nasal corticosteroid delivery.

Intrathyroidal parathyroid carcinoma is extremely rare clinical entity with potentially multiple diagnostic pitfalls. We report a case of 40-year-old man presented with classical manifestations of primary hyperparathyroidism, severe hypercalcemia and profoundly increased serum parathyroid hormone level. Neck ultrasonography demonstrated multinodular goiter with predominant 34 mm nodule in left thyroid lobe. Additional 16 mm nodule was found beneath the left lobe. Routine percutaneous fine-needle aspiration of predominant nodule indicated follicular thyroid carcinoma, while left inferior nodule was confirmed to be of parathyroid origin. The patient underwent surgery, during which frozen sections identified medullary thyroid carcinoma with metastasis to upper mediastinal lymph node. Permanent sections of the predominant left lobe nodule revealed intrathyroidal parathyroid carcinoma surrounded with multiple microscopic metastases. Left inferior nodule was metastatic lymph node. Additional 10 mm intrathyroidal metastasis of primary parathyroid carcinoma was found within right thyroid lobe. This case indicates that fine-needle-aspiration and intraoperative biopsy are of limited value in diagnosing parathyroid carcinoma, especially if localized intrathyroidally. Oncological en-block resection is treatment of choice, implying ipsilateral lobectomy in case of thyroid invasion. This firstly described case of intrathyroidal parathyroid carcinoma causing intrathyroidal dissemination may influence future treatment strategies.

Nasal route of administration offers a unique opportunity of brain targeted drug delivery via olfactory and trigeminal pathway, providing effective CNS concentrations at lower doses and lower risk for adverse reactions compared to systemic drug administration. Therefore, it has been recently proposed as a route of choice for glucocorticoids to control neuroinflammation processes in patients with severe Covid-19. However, appropriate delivery systems tailored to enhance their efficacy yet need to emerge. In this work we present the development of sprayable brain targeting powder delivery platform of dexamethasone sodium phosphate (DSP). DSP-loaded microspheres, optimised employing Quality-by-Design approach, were blended with soluble inert carriers (mannitol or lactose monohydrate). Powder blends were characterized in terms of homogeneity, flow properties, sprayability, in vitro biocompatibility, permeability and mucoadhesion. Nasal deposition studies were performed using 3D printed nasal cavity model. Mannitol provided better powder blend flow properties compared to lactose. Microspheres blended with mannitol retained or enlarged their mucoadhesive properties and enhanced DSP permeability across epithelial model barrier. DSP dose fraction deposited in the olfactory region reached 17.0% revealing the potential of developed powder platform for targeted olfactory delivery. The observed impact of nasal cavity asymmetry highlighted the importance of individual approach when aiming olfactory region.

A neck mass has a broad and complex differential diagnosis, generally divided into neoplastic, congenital and inflammatory categories. An internal carotid artery hemorrhage with pseudoaneurysm formation is a very rare entity that may resemble other common conditions in the differential diagnosis. Large, expanding or symptomatic pseudoaneurysm is critical to efficiently diagnose and manage, due to risk of life-threatening hemorrhage. We present a case of an adult male patient with clinical and laboratory signs of severe neck cellulitis and a large gradually increasing neck mass, primarily suggestive of an abscess. Neck CT and MRI imaging revealed the presence of a disruption of the internal carotid artery resulting in a large hematoma and formation of pseudoaneurysm. A multidisciplinary team of interventional radiologists and ENT surgeons successfully treated the patient by endovascular placement of stents and subsequent surgical drainage. Awareness of such a rare, life-threatening condition and efficient multidisciplinary teamwork are essential for patient management.

The aim of the study was to analyze zygomatic air cell defect (ZACD) incidence using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and validity of panoramic radiograph as a comparative method of ZACD diagnostics. The connection between ZACD incidence, age, left/right temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and comorbidity with diagnosis of TMJ disorder was analyzed. Panoramic radiographs and MRIs of 140 TMJs of 70 consecutive patients with previously confirmed TMJ diagnosis were compared in the study. A grading system (4-point scale from '0' for absence to '3' for most extended pneumatization) was used to determine low signal on MRIs as pneumatization of temporal bone. ZACD was diagnosed in 22 joints of 15 patients (incidence, 20.4%), with seven patients having bilateral appearance. In the joints of nine patients, ZACD was identified as extensive accord-ing to the grading scale. The validity of ZACD findings on panoramic radiographs compared with MRI findings yielded 0.45 sensitivity and 0.98 specificity. There was no relation (p>0.05) between comorbidity of ZACD and TMJ disorder, either by age or side of the body. More prevalent ZACD in our MRI analysis than in other researches based on panoramic radiographs could be explained by the expected superimposed osseous structures in the area of articular eminence.
