RESUMEN

The PII superfamily consists of widespread signal transduction proteins found in all domains of life. In addition to canonical PII proteins involved in C/N sensing, structurally similar PII-like proteins evolved to fulfill diverse, yet poorly understood cellular functions. In cyanobacteria, the bicarbonate transporter SbtA is co-transcribed with the conserved PII-like protein, SbtB, to augment intracellular inorganic carbon levels for efficient CO2 fixation. We identified SbtB as a sensor of various adenine nucleotides including the second messenger nucleotides cyclic AMP (cAMP) and c-di-AMP. Moreover, many SbtB proteins possess a C-terminal extension with a disulfide bridge of potential redox-regulatory function, which we call R-loop. Here, we reveal an unusual ATP/ADP apyrase (diphosphohydrolase) activity of SbtB that is controlled by the R-loop. We followed the sequence of hydrolysis reactions from ATP over ADP to AMP in crystallographic snapshots and unravel the structural mechanism by which changes of the R-loop redox state modulate apyrase activity. We further gathered evidence that this redox state is controlled by thioredoxin, suggesting that it is generally linked to cellular metabolism, which is supported by physiological alterations in site-specific mutants of the SbtB protein. Finally, we present a refined model of how SbtB regulates SbtA activity, in which both the apyrase activity and its redox regulation play a central role. This highlights SbtB as a central switch point in cyanobacterial cell physiology, integrating not only signals from the energy state (adenyl-nucleotide binding) and the carbon supply via cAMP binding but also from the day/night status reported by the C-terminal redox switch.

BACKGROUND: Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYP450s) play a crucial role in various biochemical reactions involved in the synthesis of antioxidants, pigments, structural polymers, and defense-related compounds in plants. As sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) holds significant economic importance, a comprehensive analysis of CYP450 genes in this plant species can offer valuable insights into the evolutionary relationships and functional characteristics of these genes. RESULTS: In this study, we successfully identified and categorized 95 CYP450 genes from the sweet potato genome into 5 families and 31 subfamilies. The predicted subcellular localization results indicate that CYP450s are distributed in the cell membrane system. The promoter region of the IbCYP450 genes contains various cis-acting elements related to plant hormones and stress responses. In addition, ten conserved motifs (Motif1-Motif10) have been identified in the IbCYP450 family proteins, with 5 genes lacking introns and only one exon. We observed extensive duplication events within the CYP450 gene family, which may account for its expansion. The gene duplication analysis results showed the presence of 15 pairs of genes with tandem repeats. Interaction network analysis reveals that IbCYP450 families can interact with multiple target genes and there are protein-protein interactions within the family. Transcription factor interaction analysis suggests that IbCYP450 families interact with multiple transcription factors. Furthermore, gene expression analysis revealed tissue-specific expression patterns of CYP450 genes in sweet potatoes, as well as their response to abiotic stress and plant hormones. Notably, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT‒PCR) analysis indicated the involvement of CYP450 genes in the defense response against nonbiological stresses in sweet potatoes. CONCLUSIONS: These findings provide a foundation for further investigations aiming to elucidate the biological functions of CYP450 genes in sweet potatoes.

Electrochemical conversion of nitrate (NO3 -) to ammonia (NH3) is an effective approach to reduce nitrate pollutants in the environment and also a promising low-temperature, low-pressure method for ammonia synthesis. However, adequate H* intermediates are highly expected for NO3 - hydrogenation, while suppressing competitive hydrogen evolution. Herein, the effect of H* coverage on the NO3RR for ammonia synthesis by Cu electrocatalysts is investigated. The H* coverage can be adjusted by changing Pd nanoparticle sizes. The optimized Pd@Cu with an average Pd size of 2.88 nm shows the best activity for NO3RR, achieving a maximum Faradaic efficiency of 97% (at -0.8 V vs RHE) and an NH3 yield of 21 mg h-1 cm- 2, from an industrial wastewater level of 500 ppm NO3 -. In situ electrochemical experiments indicate that Pd particles with 2.88 nm can promote NO3 - hydrogenation to NH3 via well-modulated coverage of adsorbed H* species. Coupling the anodic glycerol oxidation reaction, ammonium and formate are successfully obtained as value-added products in a membrane electrode assembly electrolyzer. This work provides a feasible strategy for obtaining size-dependent H* intermediates for hydrogenation.

Single-component electrocatalysts generally lead to unbalanced adsorption of OH- and urea during urea oxidation reaction (UOR), thus obtaining low activity and selectivity especially when oxygen evolution reaction (OER) competes at high potentials (>1.5 V). Herein, a cross-alignment strategy of in situ vertically growing Ni(OH)2 nanosheets on 2D semiconductor g-C3N4 is reported to form a hetero-structured electrocatalyst. Various spectroscopy measurements including in situ experiments indicate the existence of enhanced internal electric field at the interfaces of vertical Ni(OH)2 and g-C3N4 nanosheets, favorable for balancing adsorption of reaction intermediates. This heterojunction electrocatalyst shows high-selectivity UOR compared to pure Ni(OH)2, even at high potentials (>1.5 V) and large current density. The computational results show the vertical heterojunction could steer the internal electric field to increase the adsorption of urea, thus efficiently avoiding poisoning of strongly adsorbed OH- on active sites. A membrane electrode assembly (MEA)-based electrolyzer with the heterojunction anode could operate at an industrial-level current density of 200 mA cm-2. This work paves an avenue for designing high-performance electrocatalysts by vertical cross-alignments of active components.

BACKGROUND: Although the inherited risk factors associated with fatty liver disease are well understood, little is known about the genetic background of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and its related health impacts. Compared to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), MASLD presents significantly distinct diagnostic criteria, and epidemiological and clinical features, but the related genetic variants are yet to be investigated. Therefore, we conducted this study to assess the genetic background of MASLD and interactions between MASLD-related genetic variants and metabolism-related outcomes. METHODS: Participants from the UK Biobank were grouped into discovery and replication cohorts for an MASLD genome-wide association study (GWAS), and base and target cohorts for polygenic risk score (PRS) analysis. Autosomal genetic variants associated with NAFLD were compared with the MASLD GWAS results. Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses were used to assess associations between MASLD and metabolism-related outcomes. RESULTS: Sixteen single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified at genome-wide significance levels for MASLD and duplicated in the replication cohort. Differences were found after comparing these SNPs with the results of NAFLD-related genetic variants. MASLD cases with high PRS had a multivariate-adjusted hazard ratio of 3.15 (95% confidence interval, 2.54-3.90) for severe liver disease (SLD), and 2.81 (2.60-3.03) for type 2 diabetes mellitus. The high PRS amplified the impact of MASLD on SLD and extrahepatic outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: High PRS of MASLD GWAS amplified the impact of MASLD on SLD and metabolism-related outcomes, thereby refining the process of identification of individuals at high risk of MASLD. Supplementation of this process with relevant genetic backgrounds may lead to more effective MASLD prevention and management.

The integration of wireless light communication into a wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) module and gateway enables real-time integrated communication networks that satisfy practical application demands. In particular, wireless green light communication tools can operate underwater and in free-space environments. Here, we design, fabricate, and characterize a full-duplex light communication system using green laser diodes (LDs). Operating within the transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP), full-duplex wireless data transmission is confirmed in underwater and free-space environments at a communication rate of 10 Mbps. Through connections to a Wi-Fi module and gateway, the system is accessed by the network via the TCP/IPv4 internet scheme, and real-time video transmission is demonstrated.

Space-air-sea communication networks are of great interest to meet the demand for close and seamless connections between space, land, and ocean environments. Wireless light communication can expand network coverage from land to the sky and even the ocean while offering enhanced anti-interference capabilities. Here, we propose and establish an all-light communication network (ALCN) for space-air-sea integrated interconnection, which merges underwater blue light communication, wireless white light communication, solar-blind deep ultraviolet light communication and laser diode-based space communication. Ethernet switches and the Transmission Control Protocol are used for space-air-sea light interconnection. Experimental results show that the ALCN supports wired and wireless device access simultaneously. Bidirectional data transmission between network nodes is demonstrated, with a maximum packet loss ratio of 5.80% and a transmission delay below 74 ms. The proposed ALCN provides a promising scheme for future space-air-sea interconnections towards multiterminal, multiservice applications.

Integrating optoelectronic devices with various functions into a monolithic chip is a popular research frontier. The top-down integration scheme on silicon-based III-nitride wafers has unique advantages. A monolithic III-nitride on-chip system with lighting source, electrical absorption modulator, waveguide and photodetector with the same structure were designed and fabricated to discover the asymmetry of photon emission and absorption in quantum well diode. The characteristics of the chip were characterized in detail and three different spectral redshifts were observed in the experiment. Results revealed that the asymmetric absorption causes spectral redshift in a quantum well diode, and self-absorption is a fundamental and universal phenomenon in quantum wells. This work provides an important reference for future III-nitride optoelectronic integration.

In this paper, a new method for rotational angle and speed measurements is proposed by integrating a GaN optoelectronic chip with a stepped disc. The optoelectronic chip that integrates a light-emitting diode (LED) and a photodiode (PD) is fabricated by wafer-level microfabrication. The disc is designed with a spiral staircase shape, and has increasing thickness distribution along the circumferential direction. The sensing mechanism is that the optoelectronic chip measures angle-dependent intensity change of the light reflected off the stepped disc. Through a series of performance tests, the chip is highly sensitive to a continuous rotation from 0 ∘ to 360 ∘, and produces photocurrent to indicate the rotational angle and speed. A rotational speed up to 5000 rpm is measured with a relative error less than 1.27%. The developed sensing architecture provides an alternative solution for constructing a low-cost, miniaturized, and high-efficiency rotational angle and speed sensing system.

OBJECTIVE: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) affects many populations, and screening out the high-risk populations at an early stage is a challenge. As a sarcopenia index, the relationship between creatinine to cystatin C ratio (CCR) and MASLD remains unclear. This cross-sectional, prospective study aimed to explore the relationship between CCR and MASLD. Design Firstly, explored the correlation between CCR and MASLD in cross-sectional analyses. Then excluded the population with baseeline diagnosis of MASLD and analyzed the association with baseline CCR levels and the onset of MASLD in the population with available follow-up data. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) to evaluate the association between CCR levels and MASLD. PATIENTS AND MEASUREMENTS: This study included 368,634 participants from the UK Biobank for cross-sectional and prospective analyses. The demographic characteristics and laboratory measurements of all participants were obtained from the UK Biobank. MASLD was diagnosed according to the multi-society consensus nomenclature. Hepatic steatosis was defined as FLI  ≥60. RESULTS: We grouped the study participants according to CCR tertiles. In cross-sectional analyses, participants in CCR tertile 1 had the highest MASLD risk (OR: 1.070, 95% CI: 1.053-1.088, p < .001). And the similar association was observed in the prospective analyses (CCR tertile 1 OR: 1.340, 95% CI: 1.077-1.660, p = .009; CCR tertile 2 OR: 1.217, 95% CI: 1.021-1.450, p = .029, respectively). After stratification by gender, the significant association between CCR and the onset of MASLD was only observed in males (CCR tertile 1 OR: 1.639, 95% CI: 1.160-2.317, p = .005; CCR tertile 2 OR: 1.322, 95% CI: 1.073-1.628, p = .005, respectively). CONCLUSION: Our results indicated that lower CCR was significantly associated with higher risk of MASLD, based on which predictive models can be developed to screen populations at high risk of developing MASLD.

Previously observational studies did not draw a clear conclusion on the association between fatty liver diseases and bone mineral density (BMD). Our large-scale studies revealed that MAFLD and hepatic steatosis had no causal effect on BMD, while some metabolic factors were correlated with BMD. The findings have important implications for the relationship between fatty liver diseases and BMD, and may help direct the clinical management of MAFLD patients who experience osteoporosis and osteopenia. PURPOSE: Liver and bone are active endocrine organs with several metabolic functions. However, the link between metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and bone mineral density (BMD) is contradictory. METHODS: Using the UK Biobank and National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) dataset, we investigated the association between MAFLD, steatosis, and BMD in the observational analysis. We performed genome-wide association analysis to identify single-nucleotide polymorphisms associated with MAFLD. Large-scale two-sample Mendelian randomization (TSMR) analyses examined the potential causal relationship between MAFLD, hepatic steatosis, or major comorbid metabolic factors, and BMD. RESULTS: After adjusting for demographic factors and body mass index, logistic regression analysis demonstrated a significant association between MAFLD and reduced heel BMD. However, this association disappeared after adjusting for additional metabolic factors. MAFLD was not associated with total body, femur neck, and lumbar BMD in the NHANES dataset. Magnetic resonance imaging-measured steatosis did not show significant associations with reduced total body, femur neck, and lumbar BMD in multivariate analysis. TSMR analyses indicated that MAFLD and hepatic steatosis were not associated with BMD. Among all MAFLD-related comorbid factors, overweight and type 2 diabetes showed a causal relationship with increased BMD, while waist circumference and hyperlipidemia had the opposite effect. CONCLUSION: No causal effect of MAFLD and hepatic steatosis on BMD was observed in this study, while some metabolic factors were correlated with BMD. This has important implications for understanding the relationship between fatty liver disease and BMD, which may help direct the clinical management of MAFLD patients with osteoporosis.

III-nitride multi-quantum well (MQW) diodes can modulate the light emitted by another diode with the same MQW structure by varying the bias voltage owing to the spectral overlap between the electroluminescence spectrum and spectral responsivity curve of the MQW diodes. Here, we investigate bias-controlled modulation by monolithically integrating an optical transmitter, waveguide, electro-absorption modulator (EAM), and slot grating coupler on a silicon-based III-nitride platform using compatible fabrication processes. The modulated light is coupled into a fiber, which is direct to a photodiode for characterization. The bandwidths of forward-biased emission modulation and reverse-biased absorption modulation are of the same order of magnitude, with the latter exhibiting significant performance improvements. In addition, real-time video signal transmission was achieved using an EAM, which provides a meaningful reference for modulation applications of silicon-based GaN optoelectronic integrated systems.

This Letter reports a collinear optical interconnect architecture for acoustic sensing via a monolithic integrated GaN optoelectronic chip. The chip is designed with a ring-shaped photodiode (PD) surrounding a light-emitting diode (LED) of a spectral range from 420-530 nm. The axisymmetric structure helps the coaxial propagation of light transmission and reception. By placing this multiple-quantum wells (MQW)-based device and a piece of aluminum-coated polyethylene terephthalate (Al/PET) film on fiber ends, an ultra-compact acoustic sensing system is built. The sound vibrations can be simply detected by direct measurement of the diaphragm deformation-induced power change. An average signal noise ratio (SNR) of 40 dB and a maximum sensitivity of 82 mV/Pa are obtained when the acoustic vibration frequency changes from 400 Hz to 3.2 kHz. This work provides a feasible solution to miniaturize the sensing system footprint and reduce the cost.

The plant U-box (PUB) proteins, a family of ubiquitin ligases (E3) enzymes, are pivotal in orchestrating many biological processes and facilitating plant responses to environmental stressors. Despite their critical roles, exploring the PUB gene family's characteristics and functional diversity in sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.) has been notably limited. There were 81 IbPUB genes identified within the sweet potato genome, and they were categorized into eight distinct groups based on domain architecture, revealing a non-uniform distribution across the 15 chromosomes of I. batatas. The investigation of cis-acting elements has shed light on the potential of PUBs to participate in a wide array of biological processes, particularly emphasizing their role in mediating responses to abiotic stresses. Transcriptome profiles revealed that IbPUB genes displayed a wide range of expression levels among different tissues and were regulated by salt or drought stress. IbPUB52 has emerged as a gene of significant interest due to its induction by salt and drought stresses. Localization studies have confirmed the presence of IbPUB52 in both the nucleus and the cytoplasm, and its ubiquitination activity has been validated through rigorous in vitro and in vivo assays. Intriguingly, the heterogeneous expression of IbPUB52 in Arabidopsis resulted in decreased drought tolerance. The virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) of IbPUB52 in sweet potatoes led to enhanced resistance to drought. This evidence suggests that IbPUB52 negatively regulates the drought tolerance of plants. The findings of this study are instrumental in advancing our comprehension of the functional dynamics of PUB E3 ubiquitin ligases in sweet potatoes.

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (GI-DLBCL) is the most common histological subtype of extra-nodal DLBCL, but the risk factors, prognostic biomarkers, histopathological classifications, and treatment strategies have not had significant progress. Emerging evidence shows that cystatin SN (CST1) is involved in tumor progression in several cancer types, but its role in GI-DLBCL has not been revealed. MATERIAL AND METHODS We established a cohort consisting of 84 patients with GI-DLBCL who underwent surgical resection. The expression of CST1 in the cohort was investigated by immunohistochemistry, which divided the patients into subgroups with low or high expression of CST1. Moreover, the CST1 expression in GI-DLBCL tissues or adjacent GI tissues were compared with RT-qPCR. The correlation between CST1 expression and clinicopathological factors was analyzed with the chi-square test. The prognostic significance of CST1 was estimated by univariate and multivariate analysis, and statistical significance was analyzed with the log-rank test. RESULTS CST1 was aberrantly upregulated in GI-DLBCL tissues compared with in non-tumor GI tissues. High expression of CST1 indicated poor prognosis of GI-DLBCL (P=0.012), and CST1 can be regarded as an independent prognostic biomarker of GI-DLBCL (hazard ratio=3.07). In our study, serum lactate dehydrogenase (P=0.002), performance status (P=0.003), Lugano stage (P=0.002), and International Prognostic Index (P=0.001) were also prognostic factors of GI-DLBCL. CONCLUSIONS CST1 is an independent prognostic biomarker of GI-DLBCL, indicating unfavorable prognosis. Our results suggested that CST1 detection can be a promising method to stratify high-risk patients and guide individual treatment.

The correlation between sarcopenia and various digestive disorders has been extensively researched, whereas its association with cholelithiasis remains unreported. We aimed to investigate the association through prospective and Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses and establish a quantitative score reflecting the impact of sarcopenia-related markers on cholelithiasis. The prospective study involved 448 627 participants from the UK Biobank. Cox proportional hazard models were employed to investigate the correlation between sarcopenia-related markers and cholelithiasis. To quantitatively assess cholelithiasis risk, the SARCHO score was derived from a multivariable Cox model. Bidirectional two-sample MR analysis was conducted to validate the causal association. A total of 16 738 individuals developed cholelithiasis during a median follow-up of 12 years. Hazard ratios (HRs) of cholelithiasis decreased stepwise over skeletal muscle index tertiles (highest tertile: reference; middle tertile: 1.23, p < .001; lowest tertile: 1.33, p < .001). The tertiles of grip strength showed a similar pattern. Individuals with slow walking pace had a higher risk of cholelithiasis compared to those with normal walking pace (HR 1.23; p < .001). Our SARCHO score better quantifies the risk of cholelithiasis. MR analysis showed a causal relationship between muscle mass and cholelithiasis (OR 0.81; p < .001). No causal effect of cholelithiasis on lean mass was observed. Prospective and MR analyses have consistently demonstrated an increased risk of cholelithiasis in individuals with decreased muscle mass. Additionally, SARCHO score further quantified the cholelithiasis occurrence risk. These findings provide compelling evidence for muscle strengthening in preventing cholelithiasis.

BACKGROUND: There is still no specific real-world data regarding the clinical activity of immune checkpoint inhibitors in the elderly with liver cancer. Our study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of immune checkpoint inhibitors between patients aged ≥ 65 years and the younger group, while exploring their differences in genomic background and tumor microenvironment. METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted at two hospitals in China and included 540 patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors for primary liver cancer between January 2018 and December 2021. Patients' medical records were reviewed for clinical and radiological data and oncologic outcomes. The genomic and clinical data of patients with primary liver cancer were extracted and analyzed from TCGA-LIHC, GSE14520, and GSE140901 datasets. RESULTS: Ninety-two patients were classified as elderly and showed better progression-free survival (P = 0.027) and disease control rate (P = 0.014). No difference was observed in overall survival (P = 0.69) or objective response rate (P = 0.423) between the two age groups. No significant difference was reported concerning the number (P = 0.824) and severity (P = 0.421) of adverse events. The enrichment analyses indicated that the elderly group was linked to lower expression of oncogenic pathways, such as PI3K-Akt, Wnt, and IL-17. The elderly had a higher tumor mutation burden than younger patients. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicated that immune checkpoint inhibitors might exhibit better efficacy in the elderly with primary liver cancer, with no increased adverse events. Differences in genomic characteristics and tumor mutation burden may partially explain these results.

In this Letter, we present a novel, to the best of our knowledge, image-based approach to analyze the mode control ability of a photonic lantern employed in diode laser beam combining, aiming to achieve a stable beam output. The proposed method is founded on theories of power flow and mode coupling and is validated through experiments. The findings demonstrate that the analysis of the beam combining process is highly reliable when the main mode component of the output light is the fundamental mode. Moreover, it is experimentally demonstrated that the mode control performance of the photonic lantern significantly influences the beam combining loss and the fundamental mode purity. In the essence of the variation-based analysis, a key advantage of the proposed method is its applicability even in the situation of a poor combined beam stability. The experiment only requires the collection of the far-field light images of the photonic lantern to characterize the model control ability, achieving an accuracy greater than 98%.

BACKGROUND: Gene status has become the focus of prognosis prediction. Furthermore, deep learning has frequently been implemented in medical imaging to diagnose, prognosticate, and evaluate treatment responses in patients with cancer. However, few deep learning survival (DLS) models based on mutational genes that are directly associated with patient prognosis in terms of progression-free survival (PFS) or overall survival (OS) have been reported. Additionally, DLS models have not been applied to determine IO-related prognosis based on mutational genes. Herein, we developed a deep learning method to predict the prognosis of patients with lung cancer treated with or without immunotherapy (IO). METHODS: Samples from 6542 patients from different centers were subjected to genome sequencing. A DLS model based on multi-panels of somatic mutations was trained and validated to predict OS in patients treated without IO and PFS in patients treated with IO. RESULTS: In patients treated without IO, the DLS model (low vs. high DLS) was trained using the training MSK-MET cohort (HR = 0.241 [0.213-0.273], P < 0.001) and tested in the inter-validation MSK-MET cohort (HR = 0.175 [0.148-0.206], P < 0.001). The DLS model was then validated with the OncoSG, MSK-CSC, and TCGA-LUAD cohorts (HR = 0.420 [0.272-0.649], P < 0.001; HR = 0.550 [0.424-0.714], P < 0.001; HR = 0.215 [0.159-0.291], P < 0.001, respectively). Subsequently, it was fine-tuned and retrained in patients treated with IO. The DLS model (low vs. high DLS) could predict PFS and OS in the MIND, MSKCC, and POPLAR/OAK cohorts (P < 0.001, respectively). Compared with tumor-node-metastasis staging, the COX model, tumor mutational burden, and programmed death-ligand 1 expression, the DLS model had the highest C-index in patients treated with or without IO. CONCLUSIONS: The DLS model based on mutational genes can robustly predict the prognosis of patients with lung cancer treated with or without IO.

BACKGROUND: Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is the most common type of differentiated thyroid cancer. Early identification of patients at higher risk of recurrence may allow to improve relevant follow-up strategies and plan tailored treatment. Inflammation play an important role in the prognosis of cancer. We aimed to explore the predictive value of systemic inflammatory markers in PTC recurrence. METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled 200 consecutive patients who were diagnosed with PTC and underwent curative resection at Lianyungang Oriental Hospital between January 2006 and December 2018. Clinicopathological characteristics, preoperative hematologic results were analyzed. The optimal cutoff values were calculated using x-tile software. The multivariate logistic regression and univariable survival analysis were performed by SPSS. RESULTS: Multivariable analysis showed that lymph node metastases (odds ratio [OR] = 2.506, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.226-5.119, p = 0.012) and higher monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) (OR = 2.100, 95% CI: 1.042-4.233, p = 0.038) were independent prognostic factors for tumor recurrence. The cutoff value 0.22 of MLR significantly predicted recurrence at 53.3% sensitivity and 67.9% specificity. Patients with MLR ≥ 0.22 exhibited significantly poor long-term prognosis (46.8%) compared to the counterpart (76.8%, p = 0.0004). CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative MLR significantly predicted PTC recurrence after curative resection, which may provide clues for early identification of patients at higher risk of PTC recurrence.
