The objective was to analyze an intervention in the traditional way of teaching nursing consultation and its potential for nurses' education aiming for the practice of integrality in health. This is a participative research carried out from August to November 2011 with eight students attending the School of Nursing in a public university from the south of Brazil. The study context comprised outpatient consultations and daily life experiences of the patients. Data were collected through focus group and submitted to thematic analysis, in which two categories emerged: "The interactivity between the traditional and the extended scenario:possibilities for the integrality in education" and "The extended nursing consultation, knowledge from experience". The analysis evidenced that the experience produced knowledge coherent with the integrality in education. We conclude that the diversification of learning scenarios may configure a pedagogical strategy with potential to foster changes in the existing health care and education model.

The article is part of a qualitative study analisys developed in 2009 aiming at investigating the demand of emergency calls to the Emergency Mobile Attendance Service/Porto Alegre (SAMU) that classifies it as non-pertinent. The information was gathered from 16 semi-structured interviews with the subjects of that demand by utilizing as a methodological guideline the Grounded Theory. The article approaches the content of the sub-category "Entering into conflict with SAMU regulation in the evaluation of life-threatening", by focusing the divergences between the regulation and the users' perception about the operation of the service and the meaning of "life-threatening", factors implied in the construction of the non-pertinent demand. The importance of Nursing within this scenery is in its competence to perform education actions about first aid and to participate in projects among sectors which are able to intervene in situations that generate vulnerability.

The current paper sought to analyze the repercussions of Maria da Penha Law on addressing the issue of domestic violence against women in the city of Porto Alegre based on the view of professionals who constitute the care network for those women. Seven professionals, who work with the care for women who are victims of violence, were interviewed. Data suggests that the law has promoted changes in the field of violence prevention, assistance to women and punishment for the perpetrators, and it also increased the attention given to this phenomenon and enhanced female empowerment. It is concluded that the strengthening of the measures recommended by Maria da Penha Law still depends on investments in professional qualification, articulated actions between the places which provide assistance and the growing use of primary care services in order to improve the health of women and families exposed to violence.

This qualitative approach study, aimed at understanding the perception of women who went through the Prenatal Care Attention (PCA), on the context of the Supplementary Subsector (SS), in relation to the quality of this attention. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed by descriptive categorization. For the interviews, the PCA was considered of good quality, meeting the women's needs and exzpectations. Receptivity, bonding with the expert the consequently transmitted safety feeling and the duration of the appointments were the prominent criteria in this evaluation. Their'experiences suggest that the PCA performed in the SS partially meets the recommendations of the Brazilian Ministry of Health (MH) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The appointments' frequency and the orientation provided also meet the recommendations. However, the data suggest that the PCA does not meet the orientations of the MH and the WHO regarding avoiding the extended use of hard technology, such as obstetric sonography.

The paper analyzes the emphasis of the professionals of Family Health Teams (FHTs) on adolescent women's puerperium as a period in which women are particularly vulnerable. The adolescent women's special vulnerability in the puerperium period is justified by their way of living, showing a natural tendency to making the adolescence phenomenon something natural. The analysis was performed on some results from a qualitative study performed with FHTs of Santa Maria/RS, which used the focus groups strategy and content analysis. This study adds important contributions to the work of health professionals, indicating and giving visibility to the circumstances and elements implied in the production of adolescent women's vulnerability in the puerperium. Results suggest that a reorientation of education and health promotion practices that goes beyond the informative component are needed. In addition, there is a need to incorporate the vulnerability perspective in the planning of those actions.

Multiparity among poor women is associated to vulnerability as a generating or strengthening factor. This is a qualitative and exploratory research that aims at analyzing experiences of contraception among poor multiparae women, considering the influence of gender on their autonomy in choosing the number of children, the moment of getting pregnant, and the contraception strategies. It also aims at analyzing the mechanisms of resistance used by these women in the search for such autonomy. The data were gathered through focus groups. The content analysis suggests that the high number of children these women give birth to is explained by a reduced autonomy in their use of contraception, arising from poverty and gender inequalities. These women face these difficulties using resistance strategies that result in male power disruptions. This research has brought new elements for understanding the multiparity phenomenon in the context of poverty, and it also contributes towards a critical analysis of actions focused on promoting family planning.

This research note is the result of a qualitative study in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, aimed at exploring traffic accident risk from the motorcycle couriers' point of view. The research results highlight the importance of accident prevention and health promotion for these workers. The study was based on sociological theories of risk, especially those emphasizing the social and cultural nature of its meanings. Information was gathered through focus groups and analyzed according to the Data-Based Theory. According to the research subjects, all motorcycle couriers, the traffic accident risk is inherent to their daily work duties and is produced by personal and social interests like money, speed, and urgency. Motorcycle couriers attempt to control such risks by using self-defense strategies. Considering the high incidence of traffic accidents with motorcycle couriers in Porto Alegre, these strategies have apparently not been effective. This note emphasizes that traffic accidents involving motorcycle couriers are work-related accidents, and that health promotion measures to prevent them should target not only the couriers themselves but also their employers and customers.

This paper highlights a few aspects of health promotion and education that enable reasoning over the pertinence of the work developed with groups in the community. Group work makes it possible breaking the traditional vertical relationship between the health professional and the subject of his/her action. It is also a strategy that facilitates the expression of individual and collective needs, expectations and life circumstances that influence health.

The QSR Nvivo 2.0 is one of the latest versions of qualitative data analysis software package. Taking on board our experience as QSR Nvivo 2.0 users we describe here the software's most important tools. The QSR Nvivo 2.0 was used to facilitate the qualitative analysis of data gathered in a Health and Education research. Considering the shortage of published materials about the issue, which suggests a lack of knowledge about the program in our context, our aim is to show how the QSR Nvivo 2.0 can assist qualitative data analysis.

This paper is part of a research into the imaginaries present in the training of health professionals with respect to the regulation and exercise of their profession. The professions selected were medicine, odontology and psychology, for which emerging courses require evaluation by the National Health Council. The imaginaries were understood as operators of the virtual and the real with the potential of affirming or denying forms and contents in relation to being a professional or being in the profession. There was evidence for an imaginary of free exercise of the profession in the public sector on state level, where more experience with diseases and diversities of suffering would be gained. The ideal work place would be the private sector allowing for free choices for both professionals and users, but not without connection to the public sector for providing experience, study opportunities and the possibility of research scholarships and overseas training. Despite the expectations in relation to the private sector, currently there is no education in the field of supplementary care or about the meanings of the regulation proposed by the Brazilian Health System.
