Los
virus causan importante
morbilidad y
mortalidad , experiencia que se ha manifestado a través de la
historia . Un caso específico es el
SIDA (
Síndrome de Inmunodeficiencia Adquirida ), causado por el
VIH , que llega a ser mortal sin
tratamiento adecuado. Otras
enfermedades graves como
hepatitis o
encefalitis son también causadas por
virus . En este contexto llama la
atención la reaparición de
enfermedades virales en países tropicales, amenazando con convertirse en
pandemias , específicamente las fiebres del Zika y
Chikungunya . Entre los países más afectados de
América del Sur destacan
Brasil y
Colombia ; de ahí la necesidad de realizar una
revisión para evidenciar el número de afectados, la sintomatología y los
tratamientos realizados, resaltando lo que falta por determinar de estas
enfermedades . Se analizaron las acciones preventivas propuestas por la
Organización Mundial de la Salud y el Instituto Nacional de
Salud y se revisaron los avances en el
desarrollo de vacunas efectivas.

treatments performed, highlighting what remains to be determined of these
