Introduction: The impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on diabetic kidney disease (DKD) patients in China is not fully understood. This study aimed to investigate infection status in a DKD cohort post-renal biopsy and analyze vaccination and infection rates, as well as symptom severity, across various renal pathologies in DKD patients. Methods: This epidemiological survey, centered on COVID-19, employed a Chinese DKD and renal puncture follow-up cohort. A customized questionnaire enabled standardized data gathering. It collected data on clinical characteristics, vaccination and infection statuses, and diverse pathological types. The study analyzed the relationship between vaccination and infection statuses across various pathological types, evaluating characteristics and treatment outcomes in patients with infections. Results: In total, 437 patients with DKD from 26 Chinese provinces were followed up for a median of 44.6 ± 20 months. COVID-19 infection, vaccination, and novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) rates were 73.68%, 59.3%, and 6.63%, respectively. Ten patients with NCP had severe pneumonia or died of COVID-19. Renal pathology revealed that 167 (38.22%) patients had diabetic nephropathy (DN), 171 (39.13%) had non-diabetic renal disease (NDRD), and 99 had DN and NDRD (22.65%). The DN group had the lowest vaccination (54.5%), highest all-cause mortality (3.6%), and highest endpoint rates (34.10%). Compared to patients who were not vaccinated pre-infection (117 cases), vaccinated patients (198 cases) had reduced NCP (6.6% vs. 13.7%), severity (1.0% vs. 3.4%), and endpoint (9.10% vs. 31.60%) rates. Conclusion: Vaccination can prevent infection and diminish COVID-19 severity in patients with DKD; therefore, increasing vaccination rates is particularly important. Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) and diabetic retinopathy (DR) are common microvascular complications of diabetes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between retinal vascular geometric parameters and pathologically diagnosed type 2 DN and to determine the capacity of retinal vascular geometric parameters in differentiating DN from non-diabetic renal disease (NDRD). Methods: The study participants were adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and chronic kidney disease who underwent a renal biopsy. Univariate and multivariable regression analyses were performed to evaluate associations between retinal vessel geometry parameters and pathologically diagnosed DN. Multivariate binary logistic regression analyses were performed to establish a differential diagnostic model for DN. Results: In total, 403 patients were examined in this cross-sectional study, including 152 (37.7%) with DN, 157 (39.0%) with NDRD and 94 (23.3%) with DN combined with NDRD. After univariate logistic regression, total vessel fractal dimension, arteriolar fractal dimension and venular fractal dimension were all found to be associated with DN. In multivariate analyses adjusting for age, sex, blood pressure, diabetes, DR and other factors, smaller retinal vascular fractal dimensions were significantly associated with DN (P < .05). We developed a differential diagnostic model for DN combining traditional clinical indicators and retinal vascular geometric parameters. The area under the curve of the model established by multivariate logistic regression was 0.930. Conclusions: Retinal vessel fractal dimension is of great significance for the rapid and non-invasive differentiation of DN. Incorporating retinal vessel fractal dimension into the diagnostic model for DN and NDRD can improve the diagnostic efficiency.

BACKGROUND: To provide a new non-invasive method for the differentiation of diabetic nephropathy (DN) from non-diabetic renal disease (NDRD) by assessing retinal microstructure using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS: OCTA parameters were recorded and their relationship with DN was analysed. A differential diagnosis regression model for DN was established, and the diagnostic efficiency was evaluated. RESULTS: Based on the pathological results of renal biopsy, 31 DN patients and 35 NDRD patients were included. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that DN was independently associated with the following parameters: 15.3 mm-1 ≤ vessel density (VD) full < 17.369 mm-1 (odds ratio [OR]=8.523; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.387-52.352; P = 0.021), VD full < 15.3 mm-1 (OR=8.202; 95% CI=1.110-60.623; P = 0.039), DM duration > 60 months (OR=7.588; 95% CI=1.569-36.692; P = 0.012), and estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 (OR=24.484; 95% CI=4.308-139.142; P < 0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.911, indicating a high diagnostic efficiency. CONCLUSIONS: VD full < 17.369 mm-1, DM duration > 60 months, and eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 may indicate the presence of DN. OCTA may be an effective non-invasive method for identifying DN and NDRD.

BACKGROUND: Nonmalignant pleural effusion (NMPE) is common and remains a definite health care problem. Pleural effusion was supposed to be a risk factor for acute kidney injury (AKI). Incidence of AKI in NMPE patients and whether there is correlation between the size of effusions and AKI is unknown. OBJECTIVE: To assess the incidence of AKI in NMPE inpatients and its association with effusion size. STUDY DESIGN AND METHOD: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of inpatients admitted to the Chinese PLA General Hospital with pleural effusion from 2018-2021. All patients with pleural effusions confirmed by chest radiography (CT or X-ray) were included, excluding patients with diagnosis of malignancy, chronic dialysis, end-stage renal disease (ESRD), community-acquired AKI, hospital-acquired AKI before chest radiography, and fewer than two serum creatinine tests during hospitalization. Multivariate logistic regression and LASSO logistic regression models were used to identify risk factors associated with AKI. Subgroup analyses and interaction tests for effusion volume were performed adjusted for the variables selected by LASSO. Causal mediation analysis was used to estimate the mediating effect of heart failure, pneumonia, and eGFR < 60 ml/min/1.73m2 on AKI through effusion volume. RESULTS: NMPE was present in 7.8% of internal medicine inpatients. Of the 3047 patients included, 360 (11.8%) developed AKI during hospitalization. After adjustment by covariates selected by LASSO, moderate and large effusions increased the risk of AKI compared with small effusions (moderate: OR 1.47, 95%CI 1.11-1.94 p = 0.006; large: OR 1.86, 95%CI 1.05-3.20 p = 0.028). No significant modification effect was observed among age, gender, diabetes, bilateral effusions, and eGFR. Volume of effusions mediated 6.8% (p = 0.005), 4.0% (p = 0.046) and 4.6% (p < 0.001) of the effect of heart failure, pneumonia and low eGFR on the development of AKI respectively. CONCLUSION: The incidence of AKI is high among NMPE patients. Moderate and large effusion volume is independently associated with AKI compared to small size. The effusion size acts as a mediator in heart failure, pneumonia, and eGFR.

Atmospheric cadmium (Cd) deposition contributes to the accumulation of Cd in the soil-plant system. Sedum plumbizincicola is a Cd and Zn hyperaccumulator commonly used for the phytoremediation of Cd-contaminated soil. However, studies on the effects of atmospheric Cd deposition on the accumulation of Cd and physiological response in S. plumbizincicola are still limited. A Cd solution spraying pot experiment was conducted with S. plumbizincicola at three atmospheric Cd deposition concentrations (4, 8, and 12 mg/L). Each Cd concentration levels was divided into two groups, non-mulching (foliar-root uptake) and mulching (foliar uptake). The soil type used in the experiment was reddish clayey soil collected from a farmland. The results showed that compared with the non-mulching control, the fresh weight of S. plumbizincicola in non-mulching with high atmospheric Cd deposition (12 mg/L) increased by 11.35%. Compared with those in the control group, the malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the non-mulching and mulching S. plumbizincicola groups increased by 0.88-11.06 nmol/L and 0.96-1.32 nmol/L, respectively. Compared with those in the non-Cd-treated control group, the shoot Cd content in the mulching group significantly increased by 11.09-180.51 mg/kg. Under high Cd depositions, the Cd in S. plumbizincicola mainly originated from the air and was stored in the shoots (39.7-158.5%). These findings highlight that the physiological response and Cd accumulation of S. plumbizincicola were mainly affected by high Cd deposition and suggest that atmospheric Cd could directly be absorbed by S. plumbizincicola. The effect of atmospheric deposition on S. plumbizincicola cannot be ignored.

Microscopic hyperspectral images has the advantage of containing rich spatial and spectral information. However, the large number of spectral bands provides a significant amount of spectral features, but also leads to data redundancy and noise, which seriously affect the recognition and classification performance of the images, as well as increasing the requirements for computation and storage. To address this issue, we propose a dimensionality reduction algorithm named enhanced discriminant local constraint preserving projection (EDLCPP). Specifically, the global spectral attention mechanism focuses on important bands, the high discriminability sample selection module measures the discriminability of samples using a modified average neighborhood margin, the graph construction module preserves the local geometric relationship and discriminant information, and the graph embedding module embeds the constructed graphs into a low-dimensional space to obtain the projection matrices. Experimental results on eight cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) hyperspectral images, Bloodcell1-3, and Bloodcell2-2 datasets have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Compared with traditional RGB images, medical hyperspectral imagery (HSI) has numerous continuous narrow spectral bands, which can provide rich information for cancer diagnosis. However, the abundant spectral bands also contain a large amount of redundancy information and increase computational complexity. Thus, dimensionality reduction (DR) is essential in HSI analysis. All vector-based DR methods ignore the cubic nature of HSI resulting from vectorization. To overcome the disadvantage of vector-based DR methods, tensor-based techniques have been developed by employing multi-linear algebra. METHODS: To fully exploit the structure features of medical HSI and enhance computational efficiency, a novel method called unsupervised dimensionality reduction via tensor-based low-rank collaborative graph embedding (TLCGE) is proposed. TLCGE introduces entropy rate superpixel (ERS) segmentation algorithm to generate superpixels. Then, a low-rank collaborative graph weight matrix is constructed on each superpixel, greatly improving the efficiency and robustness of the proposed method. After that, TLCGE reduces dimensions in tensor space to well preserve intrinsic structure of HSI. RESULTS: The proposed TLCGE is tested on cholangiocarcinoma microscopic hyperspectral data sets. To further demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, other machine learning DR methods are used for comparison. Experimental results on cholangiocarcinoma microscopic hyperspectral data sets validate the effectiveness of the proposed TLCGE. CONCLUSIONS: The proposed TLCGE is a tensor-based DR method, which can maintain the intrinsic 3-D data structure of medical HSI. By imposing the low-rank and sparse constraints on the objective function, the proposed TLCGE can fully explore the local and global structures within each superpixel. The computational efficiency of the proposed TLCGE is better than other tensor-based DR methods, which can be used as a preprocessing step in real medical HSI classification or segmentation.

Malnutrition is a risk factor for disease progression and poor prognosis in chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, the complexity of nutritional status assessment limits its clinical application. This study explored a new method of nutritional assessment in CKD (stage 1-5) patients using the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) as the gold standard and evaluated its applicability. The kappa test was used to analyze the consistency of the Renal Inpatient Nutrition Screening Tool (Renal iNUT) with SGA and protein-energy wasting. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors of CKD malnutrition and calculate the prediction probability of multiple indicators combined for the diagnosis of CKD malnutrition. The receiver operating characteristic curve of the prediction probability was drawn to evaluate its diagnostic efficiency. A total of 161 CKD patients were included in this study. The prevalence of malnutrition according to SGA was 19.9%. The results showed that Renal iNUT had a moderate consistency with SGA and a general consistency with protein-energy wasting. Age > 60 years (odds ratio, OR = 6.78), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio > 2.62 (OR = 3.862), transferrin < 200 mg/dL (OR = 4.222), phase angle < 4.5° (OR = 7.478), and body fat percentage < 10% (OR = 19.119) were risk factors for malnutrition in patients with CKD. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of multiple indicators for the diagnosis of CKD malnutrition was 0.89 (95% confidence interval: 0.834-0.946, p < 0.001). This study demonstrated that Renal iNUT has good specificity as a new tool for the nutrition screening of CKD patients, but its sensitivity needs to be optimized. Advanced age, high neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, low transferrin level, low phase angle, and low body fat percentage are risk factors for malnutrition in patients with CKD. The combination of the above indicators has high diagnostic efficiency in the diagnosis of CKD malnutrition, which may be an objective, simple, and reliable method to evaluate the nutritional status of patients with CKD.

Structural reconstruction is commonly observed during electrocatalytic CO2 reduction (CO2RR) process. However, the proper modulation of interface and defect sites remains challenging with the mechanism understanding to realize the favorable electrocatalysis. Herein, the atomic bridging of bismuth with indium atoms is elaborately designed for improving electrocatalysis of CO2RR via electrochemical reduction and in situ anchoring strategy. As revealed by in situ structure analysis and theoretical studies, the ensemble sites supported on carbon matrix enable the charge density gradient to significantly promote the adsorption of *OCHO intermediate by the regulation of σ bonding and π* back-donation. Consequently, such unique electrocatalyst achieves the high formate faradaic efficiency of 95.1% over the entire potential range tested and the long-lived stability for 9 d. With coupling of CO2RR, the solar-driven full cell demonstrates the spontaneous production of formate and 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid via the efficient oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural with an outstanding yield of 88.2%, highlighting the impressive solar-to-fuel conversion selectivity. Monitoring and understanding the intrinsic active sites of biatomic bridge are crucial to elucidate the synergic electrocatalysis for rationally designing high-performance electrocatalysts.

Among the various types of post-translational modifications (PTMs), methylation is the simple functionalized one that regulates the functions of proteins and affects interactions of protein-protein and protein-DNA/RNA, which will further influence diverse cellular processes. The methylation modification has only a slight effect on the size and hydrophobicity of proteins or peptides, and it cannot change their net charges at all, so the methods for recognizing methylated protein are still limited. Here, we designed a recognition receptor consisting of a α-hemolysin (α-HL) nanopore and polyamine decorated γ-cyclodextrin (am8γ-CD) to differentiate the methylation of peptide derived from a heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein at the single molecule level. The results indicate that the modification of a methyl group enhances the interaction between the peptide and the recognition receptor. The results of molecular simulations were consistent with the experiments; the methylated peptide interacts with the receptor strongly due to the more formation of hydrogen bonds. This proposed strategy also can be used to detect PTM in real biological samples and possesses the advantages of low-cost and high sensitivity and is label-free. Furthermore, the success in the construction of this recognition receptor will greatly facilitate the investigation of pathogenesis related to methylated arginine.

Owing to its heterogeneous and highly aggressive nature, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has a high recurrence rate, which is a non-negligible problem despite the increasing number of available treatment options. Recent clinical trials have attempted to reduce the recurrence and develop innovative treatment options for patients with recurrent HCC. In the event of liver remnant recurrence, the currently available treatment options include repeat hepatectomy, salvage liver transplantation, tumor ablation, transcatheter arterial chemoembolization, stereotactic body radiotherapy, systemic therapies, and combination therapy. In this review, we summarize the strategies to reduce the recurrence of high-risk tumors and aggressive therapies for recurrent HCC. Additionally, we discuss methods to prevent HCC recurrence and prognostic models constructed based on predictors of recurrence to develop an appropriate surveillance program.

Cadmium (Cd) pollution in farmland soils severely affects agricultural production safety, thereby threatening human health. Sedum plumbizincicola is a Cd and Zn hyperaccumulator commonly used for the phytoremediation of Cd-contaminated soil. This study was aimed to improve the remediation effect of S. plumbizincicola on Cd-contaminated farmland soil and provide a theoretical basis for the enhancement of endophytic bacteria in the repair of Cd-contaminated soil with S. plumbizincicola. Four kinds of endophytic bacteria, namely Buttiauxella, Pedobacter, Aeromonas eucrenophila, and Ralstonia pickettii, were used, and soil culture experiments and pot experiments were conducted to explore the effects of endophytic bacteria on soil Cd speciation and phytoremediation efficiency of Cd-contaminated farmland soils. Under the experimental conditions, after inoculation with endophytic bacteria, the soil pH was effectively reduced, content of weak acid-extracted Cd and oxidizable Cd increased, and content of reducible Cd and residual Cd decreased. Soil Cd activity was increased, and the availability coefficient of soil Cd increased by 1.15 to 6.41 units compared with that of the control (CK2). Compared with CK2, the biomass of S. plumbizincicola significantly increased by 23.23-55.12%; Cd content in shoots and roots of S. plumbizincicola increased by 29.63-46.01% and 11.42-84.47%, respectively; and bioconcentration factor was 2.13 to 2.72 times that of CK2. The Cd removal rate of S. plumbizincicola monocropping was 48.25%. When S. plumbizincicola was planted with inoculating endophytic bacteria, the Cd removal rate in the soil reached 61.18-71.49%, which was significantly higher than that of CK2 (p < 0.05). The treatment with endophytic bacteria activated soil Cd, promoted the growth of S. plumbizincicola, increased its Cd content, and enhanced the phytoremediation of Cd-contaminated farmland soil. Therefore, endophytic bacteria can be used to improve the remediation efficiency of S. plumbizincicola in Cd-contaminated farmland soils.

PURPOSE: To explore the clinicopathological features and analyze the relevant risk factors and short-term renal outcomes of acute tubular injury (ATI) patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 83 patients with biopsy-proven ATI were included in this retrospective cohort study. Clinical characteristic and histological feature data were collected, and renal recovery at 1 month postbiopsy was recorded. RESULTS: The severity of renal dysfunction, percentage of acute tubular lesions, interstitial inflammation and fibrosis of oliguric ATI patients were all significantly higher than those of nonoliguric patients. In the subgroup analysis of the oliguric patients, the serum creatinine and urinary microalbumin levels, severity of epithelial cell degeneration and cast formation of patients in the polyuric phase at biopsy were significantly lower than those of patients in the oliguric phase. A total of 59 patients had 1-month follow-up records, and complete renal recovery was observed in 42 patients. In the multivariate analysis, the total acute tubular injury area at biopsy was the most important independent risk factor for poor renal outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: Oliguric ATI patients had severe clinicopathological conditions. The severity of tubular lesions seriously influenced renal function recovery, demonstrating the importance of renal biopsy in assessing the prognosis of patients with kidney disease.

Flue-cured tobacco is one of the important sources of national economy in China. However, Phthalic acid esters (PAEs) are ubiquitous contaminants in the cultivation and growth management of flue-cured tobacco, and attracting more and more attention. Here, six priority PAEs were detected in tobacco and soils and their residue characteristics, pollution sources were analyzed, and their exposure risks to the health of farmers were assessed. The concentration of six total PAEs ranged from 0.78 to 4.79 mg/kg in tobacco with the average of 1.75 mg/kg, and 0.84-25.68 mg/kg in soils with the average of 5.40 mg/kg. Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) and di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) had the highest detection frequency (DF = 100%) both in soil and tobacco samples. DEHP was the most abundant of the total PAEs in soil and tobacco samples, with the mean contribution values of 71.0% and 58.8%, respectively. Principal component analysis (PCA) indicates that the major sources of PAEs in the tobacco-soil system were plastic films, fertilizers and pesticides. Health risk assessment suggests that the non-cancer hazard indexes (NCHI) of dimethyl phthalate (DMP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), DBP and di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP) in all samples for farmers were at acceptable levels (NCHI < 1), and the average carcinogenic hazard indexes (CHI) of butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) and DEHP for farmers were 3.79 × 10-13 and 8.54 × 10-11 in soils, respectively, 8.23 × 10-13 and 1.95 × 10-11 in tobacco, respectively, which were considered to be very low level (CHI < 10-6). This study provides data on PAEs in tobacco and soils and their health risks which may provide valuable information to aid the management of tobacco cultivation and risk avoidance.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are attracting tremendous research interest because of their rich redox sites and high specific area which are beneficial for the energy storage applications. Nevertheless, the poor conductivity, low mechanical strength and unsatisfactory capacity severely hinder their wide application. Hence, it is of practical significance to design highly efficient and facile strategy to solve these issues. Herein, vertically oriented ZnO nanorod arrays are applied as precursor to synthesize laminated scale-like and highly-oriented Ni/Zn-MOF/ZnO nanocomposite. Owing to the desirable conductivity resulting from the doping nickel ions and the interaction between ZnO and its relative MOF, the fabricated 0.3Ni/Zn-MOF/ZnO@CC electrode exhibits an electrochemical capacitance of 1693 mF cm-2 at 1 mA cm-2. Moreover, the electrochemical capacitance retention of 80.7 % after 2500 cycling numbers is obtained under the constant current density of 10 mA cm-2 and the low internal resistance Rs of 0.89 Ω is observed. For practical application, the as-synthesized laminated scale-like Ni/Zn-MOF/ZnO@CC nanocomposite is served as positive electrode to fabricate solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor device. Moreover, a 2.5 V indicator could be powered for 8 min when the prepared supercapacitor units are connected. This work demonstrates the promising potential of the synthesized scale-like Ni/Zn-MOF composites for electrochemical energy storage applications.

To meet strategic applications, electrochemical reduction of CO2 into value-added chemical molecules would be improved by the rational design of advanced electrocatalysts with atomically dispersed active sites. Herein an electrospun-pyrolysis cooperative strategy is presented to not only modulate the porous structure of the carbon support for favorable charge and mass transfer, but also adjust the bridging structure of atomically dispersed metal species. Typically, the experimental results and theoretical calculations revealed that the unique chemical structure of binuclear nickel bridging with nitrogen and carbon atoms (namely Ni2 -N4 -C2 ) tunes the electronic nature of the d-states for the optimal adsorption of carbon dioxide and intermediates, thus inducing the substantial enhancement of CO2 reduction via the thermodynamically more favorable pathway. The identification of such a structure demonstrates the large space to modulate the atomic bridging status for optimizing electrocatalysis.

Rosa roxburghii tratt (RRT), widely distributed in the southwest of China, is favored by consumers for its good taste and healthy functions. In this study, thirty-seven compounds of Rosa roxburghii Tratt (RRT) were identified and quantified by gas chromatography-olfactometry (G-O) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. Furthermore, ethyl 2-methylpropanoate, ethyl butanoate, ethyl 2-methylbutyrate, and ethyl hexanoate were present with much higher odor activity values (OAVs) than other compounds. The key notes were confirmed by omission tests. Possible interaction among key notes was investigated through odor intensity determination and sensory analysis. It showed fruity and woody notes had synergistic effects. Full factorial design was used to evaluate the notes contribution to the whole odor. One important finding is the major effect of order interactions, fruity note (X1) and woody note (X4) especially, emphasizing the existence of complex interactions occurring between odor notes. The interaction X1X4 was further investigated. The woody note has a positive effect when the fruity note is also in the mixture but tends to show a negative effect otherwise.

In this work, for the first time we are reporting the development of a kind of high rate and long cycle life electrode composed of nickel cobalt manganese ternary carbonate hydroxide (NiCoMn-CH) ultrathin nanoflakes coated on Co-CH nanowire arrays (NWAs), which are directly generated on a nickel foam (NF) support. The hierarchical heterostructures are synthesized via a scalable two step solvothermal strategy without any adscititious surfactant and binder. The smart combination of Co-CH and NiCoMn-CH nanostructures in the nanowire arrays shows significant synergistic effect on the enhancement of the electrochemical performance of the as-fabricated supercapacitors. The as-obtained electrode exhibits excellent conductivity and high specific surface area, resulting in an unprecedented high specific capacitance (up to 3224F g-1 at 1 A g-1 in a three-electrode system) and an ultralong cycling stability (92.4% retention after 6000 successive charge-discharge cycles 5 A g-1). Meanwhile, an asymmetric supercapacitor device assembled of the Co-CH@NiCoMn-CH hierarchical nanostructures as positive electrode and activated carbon (AC) as negative electrode delivers good energy density of 20.31 W h kg-1 at the power density of 748.46 W kg-1 in the operation window 0-1.5 V. This methodology could be generalized to the design of other novel structured nanomaterials for energy storage devices and other applications.

Activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2), a member of the bZIP transcription factor family, is involved in multiple physiological and developmental processes, yet its role in the innate immunity remains unclear. In this study, two isoforms (named as MnATF2a and MnATF2b) of ATF2 gene were identified in Macrobrachium nipponense and were produced by exon skipping. The full length of MnATF2a is 2328 bp with an open reading frame of 2079 bp that encode 692 amino acids. MnATF2a has 237 bp nucleotides more than MnATF2b and the extra 237 bp is a complete exon. MnATF2a and MnATF2b proteins contain the same conserved and typical bZIP domain at the C-terminus. MnATF2a has 79 amino acids more than MnATF2b. MnATF2a and MnATF2b are widely distributed in a variety of immune tissues. After Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Staphylococcus aureus infection, the expression levels of MnATF2a and MnATF2b were significant up-regulated in the gills and stomach at 12 h. RNA interference analysis showed that knockdown of the total MnATF2 gene significantly inhibits the transcription of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and promotes the expression of crustins (including Cru3, Cru4, and Cru7). Further study showed that knockdown of MnTNF evidently increase the expression of Cru3, Cru4, and Cru7. Our research indicates that ATF2 negatively regulate the expression of AMPs by regulating the transcription of TNF in M. nipponense. This study provides valuable information about the function of ATF2 family in the innate immunity in crustacean.

Root exudates are the most direct manifestation of the response of plants changes in the external environment. Therefore, based on non-targeted gas chromatography-time-of-flight mass spectrometry and metabolomics, the response of Sedum plumbizincicola root exudates to Cd stress was used to reveal the possible mechanism of resistance to or accumulation of Cd. The results showed that Cd significantly changed the composition and contents of S. plumbizincicola root exudates. A total of 155 metabolites were identified in S. plumbizincicola root exudates, among which 33 showed significant differences under Cd stress, including organic acids, amino acids, lipids, and polyols. Cd stress suppressed organic acid metabolism and lipid metabolism in S. plumbizincicola and significantly affected amino acid metabolism. There were 16 metabolic pathways related to Cd stress, among which arginine and proline metabolism, valine, leucine, and isoleucine biosynthesis, glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism, glutathione metabolism, and purine metabolism were the key pathways with the highest correlation, and were closely related to the stress resistance of S. plumbizincicola.
