BACKGROUND: While polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) are emerging as potentially significant health threats, linked to cancer and reproductive dysfunction, their precise effects on human health remain largely unknown. We aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms promoting microplastic-induced damage in the reproductive system. METHODS: Thirty C57BL/6 male mice were randomly allocated into six equal-sized groups. Mice were exposed to fluorescent PS-MPs (5 µm, < 18%, green) at a dose of 1 and 3 mg/dL via oral gavage for 28 and 56 days, respectively (control, 0 mg/dL). The presence of antibodies and inflammatory and oxidative stress markers were evaluated using western blotting. Sperm analysis was also performed. Mouse testis Sertoli TM4 cells were divided into two groups: control (medium only) and PS-MPs (medium containing, 1,000 µg/mL) groups and cultured in vitro for 1, 24, 48, or 72 hours. The cells were cultured in a Ham's F12: Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium medium with 0.25% fetal bovine serum at 37°C with humidified atmosphere of 5% carbon dioxide in the air. Protein analyses for interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, NADPH-oxidase (NOX)-2, NOX-4, hypoxia-inducible transcription factor (HIF)-2α, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and transforming growth factor (TGF)-ß were performed using western blotting. RESULTS: The testes were evaluated after 28 and 56 days of exposure. Varying sizes of PS-MPs were detected in the testes (ranging from 5.870 to 7.768 µm). Significant differences in sperm concentration, motility, and the proportion of normal sperm were observed between the two groups. An increase in TGF-ß, HIF-2α, and NOX-4 levels was observed using western blot analysis. However, no dose-dependent correlations were observed between the two groups. In vitro evaluation of the PS-MPs group displayed PS-MP penetration of the lumen of Sertoli cells after 1 hour. Further PS-MP aggregation within Sertoli cells was observed at 24, 48, and 72 hours. A significant increase in inflammatory protein expressions (IL-10, TGF-ß, MCP-1, IL-6, TNF-α, and HIF-2α) was observed through western blotting, although oxidative agents did not show a significant increase. CONCLUSION: PS-MPs induced reproductive dysfunction in male mice provide new insights into PS-MPs-associated toxicity in mammals.

INTRODUCTION: Currently, there are two types of percutaneous arteriovenous fistula (pAVF) formation systems approved by the FDA: Ellipsys and WavelinQ. Although these systems are already in use in Europe or the United States, they have not been approved for use in Korea yet. For this reason, this study aimed to check anatomical feasibility of these systems for Korean population prior to their actual use. METHODS: Consecutive patients who received ultrasound vein mapping for arteriovenous fistula formation from June 2021 to June 2022 were included. The anatomical feasibility of each system was confirmed according to the manufacturer's instructions for use (IFU). RESULTS: Upper extremity ultrasonography was performed for a total of 83 patients to determine their feasibility for pAVF formation. Of these patients, 65.1% were feasible for pAVF formation with appropriate deep communicating vein (DCV) and outflow. Among them, 57.8% were feasible for the Ellipsys system and 54.2% were feasible for the WavelinQ system. Most patients who were infeasible for pAVF formation had a DCV of small size. Ulnar vessels were more suitable than radial vessel for WavelinQ (54.2% vs 33.7%, P-value = .012). The most common reason for not meeting the criteria was a small vein size at the access site. CONCLUSIONS: More than half of all patients were feasible for pAVF formation in this study. Ellipsys had a higher feasibility than WavelinQ, although they showed no significant difference in the feasibility. If these devices are imported into Korea, it will be a good opportunity for many patients to reduce the surgical burden and create AVFs more easily through these procedures.

Hip fractures remain a substantial health concern, particularly among elderly individuals with osteoporosis, leading to high global mortality rates. This study aimed to analyze the association between body mass index (BMI) and postoperative mortality in patients who underwent surgery for hip fractures. A total of 680 patients treated at a single institution between January 2018 and December 2022 were included. Factors such as age, BMI, sex, Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), preoperative hemoglobin levels, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, anesthesia method, duration of surgery, and time from injury to surgery were assessed. Underweight status, male sex, higher CCI, and general anesthesia were significantly associated with 1-year and in-hospital mortality. Notably, underweight individuals exhibited a higher risk of mortality than normal-weight individuals, and female patients had lower mortality rates. This study underscores the importance of considering BMI, along with other demographic and clinical factors, in predicting postoperative mortality among patients with hip fractures, aiding the development of tailored management strategies to improve outcomes and reduce complications in this vulnerable patient population.

S100 calcium-binding protein P (S100P) is a secretory protein that is expressed in various healthy tissues and tumors. Megakaryocyte-secreted S100P promotes osteoclast differentiation and function; however, its receptor and cellular signaling in osteoclasts remain unclear. Receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE), which is the receptor for S100P on cancer cells, was expressed in osteoclast precursors, and S100P-RAGE binding was confirmed through co-immunoprecipitation. Additionally, the phosphorylation of ERK and NF-κB was increased in S100P-stimulated osteoclast precursors but was inhibited by addition of the RAGE antagonistic peptide (RAP). S100P-induced osteoclast differentiation and excessive bone resorption activity were also reduced by the addition of RAP. This study demonstrates that S100P, upon binding with RAGE, activates the ERK and NF-κB signaling pathways in osteoclasts, leading to increased cell differentiation and bone resorption activity.

Dysregulated host response against infection triggers sepsis that leads to multiple organ dysfunction due to uncontrolled inflammatory responses. Despite marked progress in understanding of sepsis, numerous clinical trials for treatment of sepsis have proven daunting and a new therapeutic approach is highly needed. CE9A215 (inotodiol), a fungal secondary metabolite, has been researched for its pharmacological activities and has shown potent anti-allergic effects. In this study, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory activities of CE9A215 upon lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation in vivo and in vitro for the first time. CE9A215 decreased the production of interleukin (IL)-6, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and IL-1ß in a concentration-dependent manner in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Intriguingly, in human mast cell line LUVA, CE9A215 significantly lowered IL-4 and IL-10, and this effect could be beneficial for the clearance of bacterial infection. In addition, administration of CE9A215 improved the survival rate of LPS-stimulated mice and inhibited the pro-inflammatory cytokines, IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-1ß in blood. Moreover, CE9A215 enhanced the expression levels of plasma phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP), apolipoprotein E (ApoE), and ATP-binding cassette transporter (ABCA1) in LPS-stimulated RAW246.7 cells. Liver PLTP level increased significantly in the CE9A215-administered group compared with the control group, which implies that CE9A215 promotes LPS clearance and neutralization by reverse transport of LPS by increasing the expressions of PLTP, ApoE, and ABCA1. Our results highlight CE9A215's potential as a novel therapeutic option for the treatment of sepsis.

This study aimed to elucidate the potential of Homeobox A11 (HOXA11) as a therapeutic target and a diagnostic methylation marker for cervical cancer. Gene expression analysis using cDNA microarray in cervical cancer cell lines revealed significantly reduced expression of the HOXA11 gene. Subsequent investigation of HOXA11 promoter methylation in samples from normal individuals and invasive cervical cancer patients showed over 53.2% higher methylation in cancer scrapes compared to normal scrapes. Furthermore, overexpression of HOXA11, which is downregulated in cervical cancer, strongly suppressed cell growth in cervical cancer cell lines, HeLa and HT3. Additionally, we performed transferase dUTP nick end labeling assay and confirmed that the inhibition of cervical cancer cell proliferation occurred via apoptosis. Mechanistically, overexpression of HOXA11 led to mitochondrial apoptosis characterized by PARP cleavage due to increased c-Myc and enhanced cytochrome C secretion into the cytoplasm. These findings suggest that HOXA11 could potentially serve as a methylation marker for diagnosing cervical cancer and as a novel therapeutic target for its treatment.

Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is an inflammatory disease affecting more than 10% of the global adult population. It is classified into Th1, Th2, and Th17 endotypes and eosinophilic and non-eosinophilic types. Th2-based inflammation and eosinophilic CRS (ECRS) are associated with tissue remodeling and fibrinolytic system impairment. Objective: To elucidate the role of eosinophils in inducing fibrin deposition in CRS nasal polyp tissues and explore potential regulatory mechanisms. Methods: We analyzed the expression of genes related to the serpin family and fibrinolytic system using Gene Expression Omnibus and Next-generation sequencing data. Differentially expression genes (DEGs) analysis was used to compare control and nasal polyp tissues, followed by KEGG and Gene ontology (GO) analysis. We measured the expression and correlation of plasminogen activator-1 (PAI-1), tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA), urokinase plasminogen activator (u-PA), and urokinase plasminogen activator surface receptor (u-PAR) in CRS tissues, and evaluated the effect of eosinophils on the fibrinolytic system using a cytokine array and co-culture. Results: Nasal polyp tissues showed upregulated PAI-1, u-PA, and u-PAR expression and downregulated t-PA expression. Fibrinolytic system-related genes positively correlated with Th2 cytokines, except for t-PA. Eosinophil-derived Chitinase-3-like protein 1 (CHI3L1) increased PAI-1 expression and decreased t-PA levels in fibroblasts and epithelial cells. The inhibition of CHI3L1 suppresses these alterations. Conclusion: CHI3L1 contributes to fibrin deposition by impairing the fibrinolytic system during nasal polyp formation. The regulation of CHI3L1 expression may inhibit fibrin deposition and edema in ECRS, presenting a potential treatment for this condition.

Patients with stroke may develop hyperperfusion after a successful endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). However, the relationship between post-EVT hyperperfusion and clinical outcomes remains unclear and requires further clarification. We reviewed consecutive patients with anterior circulation occlusion who were successfully recanalized with EVT. Based on post-EVT arterial spin-labeling images, hyperperfusion was categorized as follows: global hyperperfusion (GHP), increased cerebral blood flow (CBF) in ≥ 50% of the culprit vessel territory; focal hyperperfusion (FHP), increased CBF in < 50% of the culprit vessel territory; no hyperperfusion (NHP), no discernible CBF increase. Factors associated with hyperperfusion were assessed, and clinical outcomes were compared among patients under different hyperperfusion categories. Among 131 patients, 25 and 40 patients developed GHP and FHP, respectively. Compared to other groups, the GHP group had worse National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score (GHP vs. NHP/FHP, 18.1 ± 7.4 vs. 12.3 ± 6.0; p < 0.001), a larger post-EVT infarct volume (98.9 [42.3-132.7] vs. 13.5 [5.0-34.1] mL; p < 0.001), and a worse 90-day outcome (modified Rankin Scale, 3 [1-4] vs. 2 [0-3]; p = 0.030). GHP was independently associated with infarct volume (B = 0.532, standard error = 0.163, p = 0.001), and infarct volume was a major mediator of the association of GHP with unfavorable outcomes (total effect: ß = 0.176, p = 0.034; direct effect: ß = 0.045, p = 0.64; indirect effect: ß = 0.132, p = 0.017). Patients presenting with post-EVT GHP had poorer neurological prognosis, which is likely mediated by a large infarct volume.

To obtain a quantitative parameter for the measurement of choroidal vascular hyperpermeability (CVH) on ultra-widefield indocyanine green angiography (UWICGA) using an objective analysis method in macular choroidal neovascularization (CNV). A total of 113 UWICGA images from 113 subjects were obtained, including with 25 neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), 37 with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) (19 with thin-choroid and 18 with thick-choroid), 33 with pachychoroid neovasculopathy (PNV), and 18 age-matched controls. CVH was quantified on a gray image by the subtraction of 2 synchronized UWICGA images of early and late phases. The measured CVH parameter was compared with human graders and among CNV subtypes and correlated with choroidal vascular density (CVD) and subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT). The mean CVH values were 28.58 ± 4.97, 33.36 ± 8.40, 33.61 ± 11.50, 42.19 ± 13.25, and 43.59 ± 7.86 in controls and patients with nAMD, thin-choroid PCV, thick-choroid PCV, and PNV, respectively (p < 0.001). CVH was higher in thick-choroid PCV and PNV compared to the other groups (all p ≤ 0.006). The measured CVH value positively correlated with those reported by human graders (p < 0.001), CVD, and SFCT (p = 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively). CVH can be measured objectively using quantitative UWICGA analysis. The CVH parameter differs among macular CNV subtypes and correlates with CVD and SFCT.

BACKGROUND: While Programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) blockade is a potent antitumor treatment strategy, it is effective in only limited subsets of patients with cancer, emphasizing the need for the identification of additional immune checkpoints. Butyrophilin 1A1 (BTN1A1) has been reported to exhibit potential immunoregulatory activity, but its ability to function as an immune checkpoint remains to be systematically assessed, and the mechanisms underlying such activity have yet to be characterized. METHODS: BTN1A1 expression was evaluated in primary tumor tissue samples, and its ability to suppress T-cell activation and T cell-dependent tumor clearance was examined. The relationship between BTN1A1 and PD-L1 expression was further characterized, followed by the development of a BTN1A1-specific antibody that was administered to tumor-bearing mice to test the amenability of this target to immune checkpoint inhibition. RESULTS: BTN1A1 was confirmed to suppress T-cell activation in vitro and in vivo. Robust BTN1A1 expression was detected in a range of solid tumor tissue samples, and BTN1A1 expression was mutually exclusive with that of PD-L1 as a consequence of its inhibition of Janus-activated kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription signaling-induced PD-L1 upregulation. Antibody-mediated BTN1A1 blockade suppressed tumor growth and enhanced immune cell infiltration in syngeneic tumor-bearing mice. CONCLUSION: Together, these results confirm that the potential of BTN1A1 is a bona fide immune checkpoint and a viable immunotherapeutic target for the treatment of individuals with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 refractory or resistant disease, opening new avenues to improving survival outcomes for patients with a range of cancers.

The evolutionary trajectory of glioblastoma (GBM) is a multifaceted biological process that extends beyond genetic alterations alone. Here, we perform an integrative proteogenomic analysis of 123 longitudinal glioblastoma pairs and identify a highly proliferative cellular state at diagnosis and replacement by activation of neuronal transition and synaptogenic pathways in recurrent tumors. Proteomic and phosphoproteomic analyses reveal that the molecular transition to neuronal state at recurrence is marked by post-translational activation of the wingless-related integration site (WNT)/ planar cell polarity (PCP) signaling pathway and BRAF protein kinase. Consistently, multi-omic analysis of patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models mirror similar patterns of evolutionary trajectory. Inhibition of B-raf proto-oncogene (BRAF) kinase impairs both neuronal transition and migration capability of recurrent tumor cells, phenotypic hallmarks of post-therapy progression. Combinatorial treatment of temozolomide (TMZ) with BRAF inhibitor, vemurafenib, significantly extends the survival of PDX models. This study provides comprehensive insights into the biological mechanisms of glioblastoma evolution and treatment resistance, highlighting promising therapeutic strategies for clinical intervention.

BACKGROUND: It is difficult to predict the expected survival after lumbar instrumented surgery for metastases owing to the difference among different cancer origins and the relatively short survival after surgery. AIMS: The aim of this study is to analyze the postoperative survival period of lumbar spinal metastasis patients who underwent lumbar instrumented surgery. METHODS: Data were collected from the Korean National Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database. Patients who underwent lumbar spinal surgery with instrumentation between January 2011 and December 2015 for metastatic lumbar diseases were reviewed. The mean postoperative survival period of patients with metastatic lumbar cancer according to each primary cancer type was evaluated. RESULTS: A total of 628 patients were enrolled and categorized according to primary cancer type. The overall median survival rate was 1.11±1.30 years. The three most prevalent primary cancer groups were lung, hepatobiliary, and colorectal cancers, presenting relatively short postoperative survival rates (0.93±1.25, 0.74±0.75 and 0.74±0.88 years, respectively). The best postoperative survival period was observed in breast cancer (2.23±1.83 years), while urinary tract cancer showed the shortest postoperative survival period (0.59±0.69 years). CONCLUSION: The postoperative survival period of patients with lumbar metastatic spinal tumors according to different primary cancers after instrumented fusion was ˃1 year overall, with differences according to different primary origins. This result may provide information regarding the expected postoperative survival after instrumented surgery for lumbar spinal metastases.

The reuse of the nasoseptal flap represents a favorable option for skull base reconstruction in revision endoscopic anterior skull base surgery. This study demonstrated that a detached nasoseptal flap can remain viable for several days even if not immediately reattached.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is a general phenomenon of aging, and surgery is an unavoidable choice to relieve severe back pain. The discarded surgical site during surgery is of high value for muscle and muscle-related research. This study investigated the age-dependent properties of patients' paraspinal muscles at the cellular level. METHODS: To define an association of paraspinal muscle degeneration with sarcopenia, we analyzed lumbar paraspinal muscle and myoblasts isolated from donors of various ages (25-77 years). Preoperative evaluations were performed by bioimpedance analysis using the InBody 720, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the lumbar spine, and lumbar extension strength using a lumbar extension dynamometer. In addition, the growth and differentiation capacity of myoblasts obtained from the donor was determined using proliferation assay and western blotting. RESULTS: The cross-sectional area of the lumbar paraspinal muscle decreased with age and was also correlated with the appendicular skeletal muscle index (ASM/height2). Human primary myoblasts isolated from paraspinal muscle preserved their proliferative capacity in vitro, which tended to decrease with donor age. The age-dependent decline in myoblast proliferation was correlated with levels of cell cycle inhibitory proteins (p16INK4a, p21CIP1, and p27KIP1) associated with cellular senescence. Primary myoblasts isolated from younger donors differentiated into multinucleate myotubes earlier and at a higher rate than those from older donors in vitro. Age-dependent decline in myogenic potential of the isolated primary myoblasts was likely correlated with the inactivation of myogenic transcription factors such as MyoD, myogenin, and MEF2c. CONCLUSIONS: Myoblasts isolated from human paraspinal muscle preserve myogenic potential that correlates with donor age, providing an in vitro model of sarcopenia.

PURPOSE: The relationship between knee osteoarthritis (OA), bone mineral density (BMD), and alignment has not yet been clarified. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the two limbs in patients with single-limb knee OA. METHODS: Patients who underwent single-limb total knee arthroplasty between March 2019 and February 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Only patients with Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grades III and IV on the operated side and KL I and II on the opposite side were included. Patients with traumatic OA, a surgery that could change the alignment of both lower extremities and previous fractures were excluded. The proximal femur BMD on the OA and non-OA sides were compared. In addition, the difference in BMD was compared between a group with a difference in alignment of both lower extremities (> 5°) and a group without a difference (< 5°). RESULTS: In total, 149 patients were included. The BMD T-score of the femoral neck on the OA side was lower than that of the non-OA side (p < 0.001). There was no correlation between BMD and alignment, and there was no difference in BMD according to the difference in alignment. CONCLUSION: The femoral neck BMD of the leg on the side with knee OA was lower than that on the side without OA. However, the alignment difference between the legs did not affect BMD. BMD was lowered because of OA and not because of alignment.

OBJECTIVE: The effect of clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) on the manifestation and clinical outcomes of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) has not been fully elucidated. METHODS: Patients with AIS were included from a prospective registry coupled with a DNA repository. Targeted next-generation sequencing on 25 genes that are frequently mutated in hematologic neoplasms was performed. The prevalence of CHIP was compared between patients with AIS and age-matched healthy individuals. A multivariate linear or logistic regression model was used to assess the association among CHIP and stroke severity, hemorrhagic transformation, and functional outcome at 90 days. RESULTS: In total, 380 patients with AIS (mean age = 67.2 ± 12.7 years; 41.3% women) and 446 age-matched controls (mean age = 67.2 ± 8.7 years; 31.4% women) were analyzed. The prevalence of CHIP was significantly higher in patients with AIS than in the healthy controls (29.0 vs 22.0%, with variant allele frequencies of 1.5%, p = 0.024). PPM1D was found to be most significantly associated with incident AIS (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 7.85, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.83-33.63, p = 0.006). The presence of CHIP was significantly associated with the initial National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score (ß = 1.67, p = 0.022). Furthermore, CHIP was independently associated with the occurrence of hemorrhagic transformation (65/110 clonal hematopoiesis positive [CH+] vs 56/270 CH negative [CH-], aOR = 5.63, 95% CI = 3.24-9.77, p < 0.001) and 90-day functional disability (72/110 [CH+] vs 99/270 [CH-], aOR = 2.15, 95% CI = 1.20-3.88, p = 0.011). INTERPRETATION: CH was significantly associated with incident AIS. Moreover, particularly, sequence variations in PPM1D, TET2, and DNMT3A represent a new prognostic factor for AIS. The scalp nerve block, created by injecting local anesthetics around the scalp nerves, is reported to effectively reduce pain after surgery. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of scalp nerve block in patients with hemifacial spasm (HFS) undergoing microvascular decompression (MVD). Seventy-four patients who underwent MVD for HFS were enrolled. The block group received scalp nerve block with 0.5% ropivacaine before surgery. The primary outcome was cumulative dose of rescue analgesics 24 h postoperatively. The secondary outcomes were included pain scores, postoperative antiemetic consumption, and Quality of Recovery-15 scale. The cumulative dose of rescue analgesics at 24 h postoperatively was not significantly different between the two groups (4.80 ± 3.64 mg vs. 5.92 ± 3.95 mg, p = 0.633). However, the pain score was significantly reduced in the block group at 6, 12, and 24 h postoperatively. Postoperative antiemetic consumption was lower in the block group than the control group at 12 h. There were no significant differences between the two groups for other secondary outcomes. In MVD for HFS, a preoperative scalp nerve block might reduce postoperative pain in the early postoperative period, but a larger study using a multimodal approach is needed to confirm the efficacy of a scalp block.

For the conversion of CO2 into fuels and chemical feedstocks, hybrid gas/liquid-fed electrochemical flow reactors provide advantages in selectivity and production rates over traditional liquid phase reactors. However, fundamental questions remain about how to optimize conditions to produce desired products. Using an alkaline electrolyte to suppress hydrogen formation and a gas diffusion electrode catalyst composed of copper nanoparticles on carbon nanospikes, we investigate how hydrocarbon product selectivity in the CO2 reduction reaction in hybrid reactors depends on three experimentally controllable parameters: (1) supply of dry or humidified CO2 gas, (2) applied potential, and (3) electrolyte temperature. Changing from dry to humidified CO2 dramatically alters product selectivity from C2 products ethanol and acetic acid to ethylene and C1 products formic acid and methane. Water vapor evidently influences product selectivity of reactions that occur on the gas-facing side of the catalyst by adding a source of protons that alters reaction pathways and intermediates.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Unique cartilage matrix-associated protein (UCMA), a recently discovered vitamin K-dependent protein (VKDP) with a large number of γ-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) residues, is associated with ectopic calcifications. Although the function of VKDPs is related to their γ-carboxylation status, the carboxylation status of UCMA in breast cancer is still unknown. Here, we investigated the inhibitory effect of UCMA with differing γ-carboxylation status on breast cancer cell lines, such as MDA-MB-231, 4T1, and E0771 cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Undercarboxylated UCMA (ucUCMA) was generated by mutating the γ-glutamyl carboxylase (GGCX) recognition sites. The ucUCMA and carboxylated UCMA (cUCMA) proteins were collected from culture media of HEK293-FT cells that had been transfected with mutated GGCX and wild-type UCMA expression plasmids, respectively. Boyden Transwell and colony formation assays were performed to evaluate cancer cell migration, invasion, and proliferation. RESULTS: Culture medium containing cUCMA protein inhibited the migration, invasion, and colony formation of MDA-MB-231 and 4T1 cells to a greater degree than medium containing ucUCMA protein. Significant reductions in the migration, invasion, and colony formation were also observed in cUCMA-treated E0771 cells compared to those in ucUCMA-treated cells. CONCLUSION: The inhibitory role of UCMA in breast cancer is closely related to its γ-carboxylation status. The results of this study may be a basis for the development of UCMA-based anti-cancer drugs.
