RESUMEN
The recent report on iatrogenic errors highlighted the scope of the problem and suggested solutions including a national agency to oversee error reporting. This may or may not occur; in the meantime physicians are not relieved of their responsibility to respond to the issue of patient safety. Reasons for the slow response to date are discussed and suggestions for the future are offered.

RESUMEN
Traditional and current therapies for cystinuria have been difficult for patients, only partially effective, or associated with substantial risk of serious side effects. We present a case of cystinuria that has been managed for 1 year on captopril, with elimination of recurrent nephrolithiasis and with no observable morbidity.
