BACKGROUND: Amyloidosis, particularly wild-type transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRwt), is an increasingly recognized cause of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction in the aging population. The complexity of managing ATTRwt in older patients underscores the necessity for individualized treatment approaches, yet clinical guidelines are lacking. This case report contributes to the understanding of ATTRwt management in the elderly, emphasizing the intricacies of medication tolerance and therapeutic decision-making. CASE PRESENTATION: An 83-year-old Korean man with a history of hypertension presented with dyspnea and peripheral edema. Investigations including electrocardiography, transthoracic echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance, and Technetium pyrophosphate scintigraphy led to a diagnosis of ATTRwt cardiac amyloidosis. Initial management with heart failure medications, including an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, diuretic, and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist, was modified due to evolving clinical presentations, such as hypotension and onset of atrial fibrillation. Challenges included intolerance to beta-blockers and bleeding complications from direct oral anticoagulant therapy. The patient's treatment journey highlighted the need for personalized management strategies in older ATTRwt patients. CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates the challenges in diagnosing and managing ATTRwt amyloidosis in the elderly, particularly the complexities in medication management due to the patient's age, comorbid conditions, and side effects. It underscores the importance of a tailored approach in managing ATTRwt in older populations and highlights the need for ongoing research and development of treatment strategies tailored to this demographic.

PURPOSE: The purpose is to analyze whether the external jugular vein (EJV) is a feasible and safe alternative access for the retrieval IVCFs designed for the jugular approach. METHODS: This study was designed as a nonrandomized, controlled study. The patients were divided into two groups: the IJV or EJV access groups. All operations were performed by the vascular surgery team. The main outcome was the technical success rate. The secondary outcomes included (1) the IVCF retrieval rate; (2) the time required to puncture the access vein (min); (3) the number of punctures required for access, and other aspects. RESULTS: A total of 119 patients were recruited for IVCF retrieval. Seventeen patients refused to join this trial, leaving 58 patients in the IJV group and 44 patients in the EJV group. In the IJV group, technical success was not achieved in one patient who started in the EJV group and was transferred to the IJV group. There was no significant difference in age, comorbidities, or technical success rate between the two groups. Significant differences were observed in puncture time (min), number of punctures, and inadvertent puncture of the carotid artery. All of the patients were discharged 1 or 2 days after the operation. CONCLUSION: EJV is safe and feasible alternative access for the retrieval of IVCFs that are designed for jugular approaches.

AIM: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of perceived social support (PSS) on sleep quality in arteriosclerotic obliterans patients in China and examined whether psychological flexibility (PF) has a mediating effect between PSS and sleep quality. DESIGN: A cross-sectional survey. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted between September 2020 and December 2021 on 172 patients with atherosclerotic obliterans recruited from a hospital in China. RESULTS: PSS was negatively associated with sleep quality and PF, whereas PF was positively associated with sleep quality. This relationship between PSS and sleep quality was mediated by PF. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: Vascular surgery specialist nurses assisted the members of the research group in distributing the questionnaires after the patients gave oral informed consent, and the patients cooperated to complete the questionnaires. We thank both parties for their contributions to this survey.

Background: Female subjects have poorer outcomes in left main coronary artery (LMCA) disease compared with male subjects. However, limited information is available on the long-term prognostic impact of sex and sex-treatment interactions in patients with LMCA disease undergoing coronary revascularization. Objectives: The goal of this study was to investigate the long-term effects of sex and related differential outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in LMCA disease. Methods: The extended PRECOMBAT (Premier of Randomized Comparison of Bypass Surgery versus Angioplasty Using Sirolimus-Eluting Stent in Patients with Left Main Coronary Artery Disease) trial evaluated the >10-year clinical outcomes in patients with LMCA disease randomized to undergo PCI with drug-eluting stents (n = 300) or CABG (n = 300). The primary outcome was major adverse cardiac or cerebrovascular events (MACCE) (composite of death, myocardial infarction, stroke, or ischemia-driven target vessel revascularization) at 10 years. Results: Of the 600 patients, 459 (76.5%) were male. The 10-year rates of MACCE were similar between male and female subjects in the overall cohort (27.3% vs 27.0%; adjusted hazard ratio [aHR]: 1.06; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.70-1.59), the PCI arm (30.6% vs 27.1%; aHR: 1.19; 95% CI: 0.69-2.05), and the CABG arm (24.0% vs 26.9%; aHR: 0.93; 95% CI: 0.53-1.62). The 10-year risks for MACCE did not significantly differ between PCI and CABG in both male (aHR: 1.37; 95% CI: 0.95-1.97) and female (aHR: 1.07; 95% CI: 0.56-2.07) subjects. There was no significant sex-treatment interaction regarding the adjusted risk of MACCE at 10 years (P for interaction = 0.52). Conclusions: In this 10-year follow-up of the PRECOMBAT trial, there was no sex-related impact on the long-term risk of MACCE after PCI and CABG for LMCA disease. Background There are still limited data about the differential effect of sex on long-term outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) for left main coronary artery disease. This extended follow-up study of the MAIN-COMPARE (Ten-Year Outcomes of Stents Versus Coronary-Artery Bypass Grafting for Left Main Coronary Artery Disease) registry evaluated clinical outcomes beyond 10 years. Methods and Results Of 2240 patients with unprotected left main coronary artery disease (PCI=1102 and CABG=1138), all-cause mortality, the composite of death, Q-wave myocardial infarction, or stroke, and target vessel revascularization were separately evaluated in both sexes. Of 2240 patients, 631 (28.2%) were women and 1609 (71.8%) were men. Women had lower 10-year incidences of death and serious composite outcomes than men. The adjusted 10-year risks of adverse outcomes were similar in men. However, the adjusted 10-year risks were different according to a prespecified period in women. In the short-term (0-1 year) period, PCI had a significantly lower risk for serious composite outcomes (adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 0.41; 95% CI, 0.19-0.91; P=0.03) compared with CABG. The adjusted risks for death and serious composite outcomes were significantly higher after PCI than after CABG, during the midterm (1-5 years) period (death; adjusted HR, 3.99; 95% CI, 2.01-7.92; P<0.001 and composite outcome; adjusted HR, 2.93; 95% CI, 1.59-5.39; P=0.001). Beyond 5 years, adjusted risks were similar after PCI and CABG in women. Conclusions In this 10-year extended follow-up study of patients undergoing left main coronary artery revascularization, we observed a time-dependent impact of sex on the long-term outcomes after PCI and CABG, especially in women, with significant interactions. More evidence is required with respect to the comparative effectiveness of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with second-generation drug-eluting stents (DESs) versus coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in contemporary clinical practice. This prospective observational registry-based study compared the outcomes of 6,647 patients with multivessel disease who underwent PCI with second-generation DES (n = 3,858) or CABG (n = 2,789) between January 2006 and June 2018 and for whom follow-up data were available for at least 2 to 13 years (median 4.8). The primary outcome was a composite of death, spontaneous myocardial infarction, or stroke. Baseline differences were adjusted using propensity scores and inverse probability weighting. In the overall cohort, there were no significant between-group differences in the adjusted risks for the primary composite outcome (hazard ratio [HR] for PCI vs CABG 1.03, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.86 to 1.25, p = 0.73) and all-cause mortality (HR 0.95, 95% CI 0.76 to 1.20, p = 0.68). This relative treatment effect on the primary outcome was similar in patients with diabetes (HR 1.15, 95% CI 0.91 to 1.46, p = 0.25) and without diabetes (HR 0.95, 95% CI 0.73 to 1.22, p = 0.67) (p for interaction = 0.24). The adjusted risk of the primary outcome was significantly greater after PCI than after CABG in patients with left main involvement (HR 1.39, 95% CI 1.01 to 1.90, p = 0.044), but not in those without left main involvement (HR 0.94, 95% CI 0.76 to 1.16, p = 0.56) (p = 0.03 for interaction). In this prospective real-world long-term registry, we observed that the risk for the primary composite of death, spontaneous myocardial infarction, or stroke was similar between PCI with contemporary DES and CABG.

Gender differences have been recognized in several aspects of coronary artery disease (CAD). However, evidence for gender differences in long-term outcomes after left main coronary artery (LMCA) revascularization is limited. We sought to evaluate the impact of gender on outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) for unprotected LMCA disease. We evaluated 4,320 patients with LMCA disease who underwent CABG (n = 1,456) or PCI (n = 2,864) from the Interventional Research Incorporation Society-Left MAIN Revascularization registry. The primary outcome was a composite of death, myocardial infarction (MI), or stroke. Among 4,320 patients, 968 (22.4%) were females and 3,352 (77.6%) were males. Compared to males, females were older, had a higher prevalence of hypertension and insulin-requiring diabetes, more frequently presented with acute coronary syndrome, but had less extensive CAD and less frequent left main bifurcation involvement. The adjusted risk for the primary outcome was not different after PCI or CABG in females and males (hazard ratio [HR] 1.09; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.73-1.63 and HR 0.97; 95% CI: 0.80-1.19, respectively); there was no significant interaction between gender and the revascularization strategy (P for interaction = 0.775). In multivariable analysis, gender did not appear to be an independent predictor for the primary outcome. In revascularization for LMCA disease, females and males had a comparable primary composite outcome of death, MI, or stroke with either CABG or PCI without a significant interaction of gender with the revascularization strategy.

Background Several trials reported differential outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents (DES) and coronary-artery bypass grafting (CABG) for multivessel coronary disease according to the presence of diabetes mellitus (DM). However, it is not well recognized how DM status affects very-long-term (10-year) outcomes after DES and CABG for left main coronary artery disease. Methods and Results In the PRECOMBAT (Premier of Randomized Comparison of Bypass Surgery versus Angioplasty using Sirolimus-Eluting Stent in Patients with Left Main Coronary Artery Disease) trial, patients with LMCA were randomly assigned to undergo PCI with sirolimus-eluting stents (n=300) or CABG (n=300). The primary outcome was the incidence of major adverse cardiac or cerebrovascular events (MACCE; a composite of death from any cause, myocardial infarction, stroke, or ischemia-driven target-vessel revascularization). Outcomes were examined in patients with (n=192) and without (n=408) medically treated diabetes. The follow-up was extended to at least 10 years for all patients (median, 11.3 years). The 10-year rates of MACCE were not significantly different between DES and CABG in patients with DM (36.3% versus 26.7%, respectively; hazard ratio [HR], 1.35; 95% CI, 0.83-2.19; P=0.23) and without DM (25.3% versus 22.9%, respectively; HR, 1.15; 95% CI, 0.79-1.67; P=0.48) (P-for-interaction=0.48). There were no significant between-group differences in composite of death, MI, or stroke, and all-cause mortality, regardless of DM status. TVR rates were consistently higher after DES than CABG. Conclusions In this 10-year extended follow-up of PRECOMBAT, we found no significant difference between DES and CABG with respect to the incidences of MACCE, serious composite outcome, and all-cause mortality in patients with and without DM with LMCA disease. However, owing to the limited number of patients and no adjustment for multiple testing, overall findings should be considered hypothesis-generating, highlighting the need for further research. Background The long-term prognostic effect of the SYNTAX (Synergy Between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention With Taxus and Cardiac Surgery) score (SS) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) for left main coronary artery disease is controversial. Methods and Results In the PRECOMBAT (Premier of Randomized Comparison of Bypass Surgery Versus Angioplasty Using Sirolimus-Eluting Stent in Patients With Left Main Coronary Artery Disease) trial, 600 patients with left main coronary artery disease were randomized to undergo PCI with drug-eluting stents (n=300) or CABG (n=300). We compared 10-year outcomes after PCI and CABG according to SS categories and evaluated the predictive value of SS in each revascularization arm. The primary outcome was a major adverse cardiac or cerebrovascular event (composite of death, myocardial infarction, stroke, or ischemia-driven target-vessel revascularization) at 10 years. Among 566 patients with valid SS measurement at baseline, 240 (42.4%) had low SS, 200 (35.3%) had intermediate SS, and 126 (22.3%) had high SS. The 10-year rates of major adverse cardiac or cerebrovascular events were not significantly different between PCI and CABG in low (21.6% versus 22.2%, P=0.97), intermediate (31.8% versus 22.2%; P=0.13), and high SS (46.2% versus 35.7%; P=0.31) (P-for-interaction=0.46). There were no significant interactions between SS categories and revascularization modalities for death (P=0.92); composite of death, myocardial infarction, or stroke (P=0.87); and target-vessel revascularization (P=0.06). Higher SS categories were associated with higher risks for major adverse cardiac or cerebrovascular events in the PCI arm but not in the CABG arm. Conclusions Ten-year clinical outcomes between PCI and CABG were not significantly different according to the SS. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of lesion site (ostial or shaft vs. distal bifurcation) on long-term outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) for left main coronary artery (LMCA) disease. BACKGROUND: Long-term comparative data after PCI and CABG for LMCA disease according to lesion site are limited. METHODS: Patients from the MAIN-COMPARE (Revascularization for Unprotected Left Main Coronary Artery Stenosis: Comparison of Percutaneous Coronary Angioplasty Versus Surgical Revascularization) registry were analyzed, comparing adverse outcomes (all-cause mortality [a composite outcome of death, Q-wave myocardial infarction, or stroke] and target vessel revascularization) between PCI and CABG according to LMCA lesion location during a median follow-up period of 12.0 years. RESULTS: In overall population, the adjusted risks for death and serious composite outcome were higher after PCI than after CABG for distal bifurcation disease, which was mainly separated beyond 5 years. These outcomes were not different for ostial or shaft disease. When comparing drug-eluting stents (DES) and CABG, the adjusted risks for death and serious composite outcome progressively diverged beyond 5 years after DES compared with CABG for distal bifurcation disease (death: hazard ratio: 1.78; 95% confidence interval: 1.22 to 2.59; composite outcome: hazard ratio: 1.94; 95% confidence interval: 1.35 to 2.79). This difference was driven mainly by PCI with a 2-stent technique for distal bifurcation. In contrast, the adjusted risks for these outcomes were similar between DES and CABG for ostial or shaft disease. CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with distal LMCA bifurcation disease, CABG showed lower mortality and serious composite outcome rates compared with DES beyond 5 years. However, there were no between-group differences in these outcomes among patients with ostial or shaft LMCA disease.

BACKGROUND: Left main coronary artery (LMCA) disease is associated with high mortality and morbidity due to a large area of jeopardized myocardium. However, the optimal revascularization strategy for patients with LMCA disease and left ventricular dysfunction is still unclear. OBJECTIVES: This study sought to examine long-term comparative outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or a coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) according to the severity of left ventricular dysfunction. METHODS: The authors evaluated a total of 3,488 patients with LMCA disease who underwent CABG (n = 1,355) or PCI (n = 2,133) from the IRIS-MAIN (Interventional Research Incorporation Society-Left MAIN Revascularization) registry. Left ventricular function was categorized according to left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) as normal function (LVEF ≥55%), mild dysfunction (LVEF ≥45% to <55%), moderate dysfunction (LVEF ≥35% to <45%), or severe dysfunction (LVEF <35%). The primary outcome was a composite of death, myocardial infarction, or stroke. RESULTS: Among the overall patient population, 2,641 (75.7%) patients had normal LVEF and 403 (11.6%), 260 (7.5%), and 184 (5.3%) had mild, moderate, and severe left ventricular dysfunction at baseline, respectively. Compared with CABG, PCI was associated with a higher adjusted risk of primary outcomes in patients with moderate (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.23; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.17 to 4.28) or severe (HR: 2.45; 95% CI: 1.27 to 4.73) dysfunction. In contrast, PCI and CABG had similar risks of the primary outcomes in patients with normal (HR: 0.80; 95% CI: 0.59 to 1.07) or mild (HR: 1.17; 95% CI: 0.63 to 2.17) dysfunction (p for interaction = 0.004). CONCLUSIONS: In the revascularization of LMCA disease, PCI was associated with an inferior primary composite outcome of death, MI, or stroke compared with CABG in patients with moderate or severe left ventricular dysfunction. However, the risk for the primary outcome was comparable between PCI and CABG in those with normal or mild left ventricular dysfunction. Twelve azole derivatives of emodin were designed to possess anti-inflammatory activity and synthesized via a two-step sequence composed of the Williamson ether reaction and N-alkylation. The anti-inflammatory properties of these compounds were evaluated in RAW264.7 cells by measuring lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) production. The introduction of imidazole and four carbons into the scaffold of emodin led to the discovery of the potent compound 7e, which showed the best inhibition of NO production among twelve analogs. In our experiential setting, the IC50 of compound 7e in NO production is 1.35 µM, which is lower than that of indomethacin. Mechanically, compound 7e effectively inhibited the protein and messenger RNA expressions of cyclooxygenase-2 and inducible NO synthase, as well as that of the proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-6, and the cytokines interleukin-1ß and tumor necrosis factor-α in the LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages. Compound 7e exerted inhibitory effects on the nuclear factor κB pathway by reducing the LPS-induced phosphorylation of the inhibitor of NF-κB and the nuclear translation of p-p65. These results suggest the potential of compound 7e in improving inflammatory conditions and diseases.

Soybeans are low in saturated fat and a rich source of protein, dietary fiber, and isoflavone; however, their nutritional shelf life is yet to be established. This study evaluated the change in the stability and quality of fatty acids in raw and roasted soybean flour under different storage temperatures and durations. In both types of soybean flour, the fatty-acid content was the highest in the order of linoleic acid (18-carbon chain with two double bonds; C18:2), oleic acid (C18:1), palmitic acid (C16:0), linolenic acid (18:3), and stearic acid (C18:0), which represented 47%, 26%, 12%, 9%, and 4% of the total fatty-acid content, respectively. The major unsaturated fatty acids of raw soybean flour-oleic acid, linoleic acid, and linolenic acid-decreased by 30.0%, 94.4%, and 97.7%, and 38.0%, 94.8%, and 98.0% when stored in polyethylene and polypropylene film, respectively, after 48 weeks of storage under high-temperature conditions. These values were later increased due to hydrolysis. This study presents the changes in composition and content of two soybean flour types and the changes in quality and stability of fatty acids in response to storage temperature and duration. This study shows the influence of storage conditions and temperature on the nutritional quality which is least affected by packing material.

Four new constituents, as 5, 7-dihydroxy-4'-methoxyflavonol-3-O-ß-d-arabinopyranosyl-(2''→1''')-O-ß-d-arabinopyrnosyl-2'''-O-3'''', 7''''-dimethylnonan-1''''-oate (1), 5-hydroxy-7, 4'-dimethoxyflavone-5-O-α-d-arabinopyranosyl-(2"→1''')-O-α-d-arabinopyranosyl-2'''-O-3'''', 7''''-dimethylnonan-1''''-oate (2), 5-hydroxy-7, 4'-dimethoxyflavone-5-O-ß-d-arabinofuranosyl-(2"→1''')-O-ß-d-arabinopyranosyl-2'''-O-lanost-5-ene (3) and 4',4''-diferuloxy feruloyl-O-α-d-arabinopyranosyl-(2a→1b)-O-α-d-arabinopyranosyl-(2b→1c)-O-α-d-arabinopyranosyl-(2c→1d)-O-α-d-arabinopyranosyl-(2d→1e)-O-α-d-arabinopyranosyl-2e-3''', 7'''-dimethylnonan-1'''-oate (4), along with three known compounds (5⁻7) were isolated from Oryza sativa leaves and straw. The structures of new and known compounds were elucidated by 1D (¹H and 13C NMR) and 2D NMR spectral methods, viz: COSY, HMBC, and HSQC aided by mass techniques and IR spectroscopy. The cytotoxicity of these constituents was assessed by using (RAW 264.7) mouse macrophage cell line, and allelopathic effects of compounds (1⁻7) on the germination and seedling growth characteristics such as seedling length and root length of barnyardgrass (Echinochloa oryzicola) were evaluated. Significant inhibitory activity was exhibited by compounds comprising flavone derivatives such as (1⁻3) on all of seed germination characteristics. The allelopathic effect of flavone derivatives were more pronounced on seedling length and root length than the germination characteristics. The higher concentration of flavone derivatives showed stronger inhibitory effects, whereas the lower concentrations showed stimulatory effects in some cases.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of our study is to analyze the methods of treating infected femoral artery pseudoaneurysms (IFAPs), and also to identify the most appropriate method, especially for patients with a long history of drug abuse. METHODS: A retrospective chart review of 88 consecutive IFAPs secondary to drug abuse between 2003 and 2014 was performed. Outpatient clinic charts were reviewed, as well as inpatient and anesthesia records. All patients had undergone a computer tomography angiography or contrast computer tomography to confirm their diagnosis. Routine blood tests were performed. The treatment methods included common femoral artery ligation (CFA) along with local debridement and drainage, direct oversewing, and amputation. A clamping test of the distal external iliac artery (EIA) or the common femoral artery was performed after vessel isolation, during which the oxygen saturation of the blood at the end of the affected limb was examined with a continuous pulse oximeter. Skin samples from affected limbs were tested with hematoxylin and eosin (HE) stain. RESULTS: There were a total of 88 patients, of which 79 and 9 came from emergency and outpatient, respectively. Acute hemorrhage at the injection site, pulsatile mass, septic syndrome, and necrosis were present in 65, 14, 8, and 1 patients, respectively. All patients experienced groin pain. Thigh or leg swelling was present in 63 patients. The drug injection history was a mean 6.9 ± 4.1 years. Seventy-four patients presented with anemia and 75 patients presented with hypoproteinemia. Hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, and HIV were found in 42, 57, 12, and 2 patients, respectively. One patient gave up the treatment. One patient was treated by amputation along with CFA ligation and local debridement because the limb was necrotic on admission. Three patients with short drug injection abuse history and local slight infection were treated by direct oversewing. Eighty-three patients, of which 27 had a drug injection history shorter than 5 years and 56 patients longer than 5 years, were treated by CFA ligation and local debridement. All patients' oxygen saturation of the affected limbs was higher than 90% after distal EIA clamping test and ligation, except the amputation patient. None of these required amputation. One patient, whose injection history was only half a year, underwent an operation for acute ischemic performance. Forty patients had differing degrees of lymph extravasations and were treated by injecting 70% methylated amine diatrizoate. HE stain showed that there were an abundant of microcirculation vessels in IFAP patients. The mean follow-up period was mean (26 ± 14) months from 3 months to 61 months. In the group with a history shorter than 5 years, 10 patients had mild claudication in the first 3 months and then relieved from 6 months. However, in patients with a history longer than 5 years, no case presented claudication. Many of them admitted to drug abuse after surgery and rehabilitation. CONCLUSIONS: The appropriate and tolerated treatment for most IFAP is arterial ligation, particularly in patients with an injected drug history longer than 5 years. Primary repair may be adopted for special IFAP patients with short drug injection history and limit infection to avoid severe ischemia complication. Medical staff should take strict precautions and protection measures.

Chylothorax is caused by disruption or obstruction of the thoracic duct, which results in leakage of chyle in the pleural space. The most common etiologies are malignancy and trauma. Among the causative malignancies, lymphoma is the most common, followed by primary lung cancer, mediastinal tumors, and other metastatic malignancies. Conversely, prostate cancer has rarely been reported as the cause of chylothorax. We herein report a case of metastatic prostate cancer initially presenting as chylothorax, with disappearance of the pleural effusion after the initiation of androgen deprivation therapy. Moreover, we also discuss the various rare manifestations of metastatic prostate cancer, including chylothorax.

Novel cystine-bridged γ-peptide-based cyclic peptide-dendron hybrids have been synthesized by oxidative coupling between two cysteine residues of the linear peptides via the formation of disulfide bonds in high yields. The self-assembly of the hybrids was studied by FT-IR, (1)H NMR, TEM, and AFM analyses which indicate that the nanotube was constructed through intermolecular hydrogen-bonding of the hydrophobic cyclic peptide moieties and possesses amphiphilic property by conjugating a hydrophilic dendron on the exterior of the cyclic peptide ring. The diameters of nanofibers that consisted of nanotubes depend on the employed solvent in the self-assembly process, and uniform filaments formed from double amphiphilic nanotubes via hydrophobic interactions between their hydrophobic faces have been observed in water as well as in aqueous solutions.
