BACKGROUND: This study assesses the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in first time visitors to the STIs clinic in Hangzhou, China, considering different genders, ages and symptoms. And also explores howthe COVID-19 pandemic has affected on STIs. METHODS: From 2019 to 2023, 27,283 first time visitors were tested for nine distinct STIs, including Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), syphilis, Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2), Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU), Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Mycoplasma genitalium (MG), and vaginal Candida. RESULTS: Symptomatic male and female visitors showed overall STI-positive rates of 39.27% and 59.20%, respectively(p < .001). The top three pathogens in both genders were HPV (47.56% and 56.71%), UU (29.21% and 56.47%), and HSV-2 (22.41% and 52.94%). Among asymptomatic visitors, the total STI-positive rate was 36.63% in males and 52.03% in females. Age-stratified analysis revealed higher STI rates in visitors ≤ 20 or >50 years, regardless of gender and symptoms. During the COVID-19 pandemic, symptomatic visitors showed lower positive rates for HPV, HIV, syphilis, and HSV-2, while Candida, UU, CT, NG, and multiple infections increased. Among asymptomatic visitors, HPV had the lowest positive rate, while NG and multiple infections increased during the pandemic. CONCLUSION: STI prevalence is notably high, particularly in those aged ≤ 20 and >50 years. It emphasizes the need for enhanced health education, condom use, and vaccination. The COVID-19 pandemic impacting STIs through varied factors, such as reduced sexual activity and clinical service interruption.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are one of the most important issues related to sexual and reproductive health, as it is estimated that more than 1 million new infections are acquired every day worldwide and data on the prevalence and incidence of these infections, especially among young people, are increasing. Nevertheless, there are some knowledge and behavioral gaps, and young people need more support from their school and family network to protect themselves and their peers. Therefore, we have designed a multicenter prospective intervention study involving public lower and upper secondary school students, their parents and teachers (ESPRIT). The intervention will take place in the school year 2023-2024, where students will meet with experts and be involved in peer education, while adults (parents and teachers) will participate in distance and face-to-face trainings. All target groups will complete KAP (knowledge, attitudes, practice) questionnaires before and after participating in the intervention to measure its effectiveness. The results of this study will help to assess and improve the level of knowledge of lower and upper secondary school students, parents and teachers about STIs and HPV in particular, raise awareness of sexual and reproductive health issues, including vaccination, among lower and upper secondary school students and their families, and evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions in terms of improving knowledge and changing attitudes and behaviors. The study protocol has been approved by the Regional Unique Ethics Committee of Friuli Venezia Giulia (CEUR-2023-Sper-34). The project is being carried out with the technical and financial support of the Italian Ministry of Health-CCM.

Introduction International research suggests free online postal self-sampling for sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing is an acceptable alternative to clinic-based testing. A user-pays online STI testing service exists in Aotearoa New Zealand, but acceptability among priority populations is unknown. Aim To explore Maori and Pacific young people's perspectives on online postal self-sampling for STI testing (as prospective service users). Methods Four wananga (knowledge-sharing forum) were held between November 2022 and May 2023 with Maori and Pacific participants aged 15-24 years who were recruited via youth-focused community organisations. Three facilitators guided discussions about STI testing and use of an online service. Inductive thematic analysis was used to analyse data generated from audio-recorded discussions, group work notes and facilitator field notes. Results None of the 38 participants were aware of online STI testing and all considered it cost-prohibitive. Perceptions of online testing were mixed, and discussion about concerns outweighed perceived benefits. Three themes were identified: (i) potential to support autonomy (perceived benefits and positive features of self-sample collection kits); (ii) barriers and process-related concerns; and (iii) tailoring online STI testing to young people's needs (facilitating engagement with online testing). Discussion For online STI testing to be an accessible alternative to clinic-based testing for priority populations, cost, low awareness and other barriers in the testing pathway need to be addressed. Clinician follow-up on positive results and free treatment would be critical to ensure the cycle of best practice care is completed. Regardless of where testing is accessed, investment is needed to support young people's knowledge of when, why and how to access a sexual health check.

BACKGROUND: Molluscum contagiosum (MC) is a poxvirus that manifests as firm, smooth, dome-shaped, umbilicated, flesh-colored papules. In adults, MC is commonly spread by sexual contact, and is self-limited in patients with intact immune systems but more widely distributed and difficult to treat in immunocompromised persons. We analyzed cases of adult MC for associations with immunosuppression, lifestyle risk factors, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). METHODS: Using the All of Us Research Program database, adults with MC were identified and matched with controls 1:10 based on demographic factors. Comorbidities, lifestyle risk factors, and medication exposures were analyzed. Odds ratios were calculated using logistic regression. RESULTS: Our analysis included 146 cases of adults with MC and 1460 demographic-matched controls. Patients with MC were 48 years old on average, 59% female, and majority White (82.5%). Controls were similar for all demographic features. Adults with MC were more likely to have syphilis (odds ratio (OR) 16; 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.57-99.5), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) (OR 9.54; 95% CI 3.95-23.0), chlamydia (OR 6.24; 95% CI 2.38-16.4), condyloma acuminata (OR 13.9; 95% CI 7.36-26.2), genital herpes (OR 4.13; 95% CI 1.87-9.15), or atopic dermatitis (AD) (OR 2.85; 95% CI 1.5-5.4) (all p < .01). There were no differences in prevalence of other comorbidities, lifestyle risk factors, nor medication exposures (all p > .05). CONCLUSIONS: We showed that adult MC is associated with AD and STIs, including HIV, chlamydia, condyloma acuminata, genital herpes, and syphilis. Sexually active adolescents and adults and those diagnosed with AD may be screened for MC and counseled on their potentially increased risk.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have a profound impact on sexual and reproductive health worldwide. Syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis are four currently curable STIs. However, most STI cases are asymptomatic and not detected without laboratory diagnostics. Hepatitis B virus, herpes simplex virus, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and human papillomavirus (HPV) are four viral and incurable infections, but they can be mitigated by treatment. We investigated the prevalence of selected sexually transmitted pathogens and their relationship with HPV and HIV infection in women from Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 233 non-pregnant women seeking health care relating to gynecological symptoms in Mavalane Health facilities in Maputo, between the 1st of February 2018 and the 30th of July 2019. Cervical brush samples were collected and DNA was extracted. Selected STIs including HPV were detected using multiplex STD and HPV Direct Flow Chip Kits through a manual Hybrispot platform (Vitro, Master Diagnostica, Sevilla, Spain). HIV testing was performed using rapid tests: Determine HIV 1/2 test (Alere Abbott Laboratories, Tokyo, Japan) for screening, and UniGold HIV (Trinity Biotech, Ireland) for confirmation. All women (n = 233) were negative for Haemophilus ducreyi and Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (HSV-1). Among the 233 women, a high prevalence of STIs was found (89%), 63% of the women were positive for HPV and 24% were HIV positive. Treponema pallidum (TP), Trichomonas vaginalis (TV), Herpes Simplex Virus-2 (HSV-2), and Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) were detected in 17%, 14%, 8%, and 8% of the women, respectively. As a common phenomenon, vaginal discharge (90%) was the lower genital tract symptom reported by the majority of the women. Co-infection with any STI and HPV was detected in 56% (130/233) while 45% (59/130) of the co-infections were with high-risk HPV (hrHPV) genotypes. Among the HPV-positive participants, infection by TP was the most prevalent (27%). In total, 28% (66/233) of the participants were positive for any hrHPV genotypes. Co-infection with any STI and HIV was found in 15% (34/233) of the study participants. There was a significant association between HPV infection and TP (p = 0.039) and HSV-2 (p = 0.005). TV, TP, and CT-S1-CT-S2 positivity were significantly more prevalent in HIV-positive participants. Pathobionts Ureaplasma urealyticum/parvum and Mycoplasma hominis were detected in 84.0% (195/233) and 45% (105/233), respectively. This present study describes a high prevalence of STIs. Co-infection between HPV and STIs was found in the majority of the study subjects. The high prevalence of HPV emphasizes the need for HPV vaccination to prevent cervical cancer in this population. Management of STIs is also important in women presenting with gynecological symptoms.

Sexually transmitted infections (STI) or sexually transmitted diseases (STD) can be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and arthropods. The most frequent bacterial STIs include Chlamydia infections, syphilis and gonorrhea; viral STIs include herpes genitalis (herpes simplex virus 1 and 2), human papillomavirus (HPV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). An empathetic medical history taking in cases of a clinical suspicion can provide important information for adequate diagnostics. When an STI is detected, a complete screening for other STIs should be carried out. The STIs result in a wide variety of symptoms and it is often difficult to make a clear diagnosis to a certain pathogen based on the clinical symptoms. To avoid reinfections, it is recommended to also test recent sexual partners. For certain pathogens highly effective postexposure prophylaxis or preventive vaccinations are available.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a difficult health challenge for immunocompromised patients. Patients treated for several haematological malignancies have further compromised immune systems. Furthermore, many chemotherapies, alone or associated with haematopoietic stem-cell transplantation, make the body's natural barriers extremely fragile. STIs can negatively impact both patient morbidity and mortality. In this Series paper, we discuss Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, syphilis, human immunodeficiency virus, herpes simplex virus, human papilloma virus, and hepatitis B virus, as we found them to be associated with increased risks for haematological malignancy treatments, either by incidence or by severity. Protective measures and vaccines for patients with haematological malignancies are also discussed. Large, well conducted studies should be encouraged, with the aim to systematically analyse the impacts of STIs in patients with haematological malignancies, especially given the difficulties that antimicrobial resistance can confer to patient management.

BACKGROUND: During the COVID-19 pandemic, online sexual health service delivery increased across Britain. We investigated inequalities in STI testing access and methods of access during the first year of the pandemic. METHODS: Natsal-COVID, an online-survey of people 18-59 years in Britain, explored sexual health experiences in the first year of the pandemic. We describe the socio-demographics of participants who used STI testing services and compare those who reported being "online service users", defined as using services with no direct clinician interactions (regardless of whether they also used other methods), with those who were exclusively "other service users", defined as face-to-face, telephone, or video calls. RESULTS: 246/6,064 participants (4.2%) reported STI testing between 03/2020-03/2021. Of those, 35.8% (95%CI 29.2-42.8) used online services. Online service users (compared to other service users) were more often white (74.9% (62.2-84.4) versus 68.5% (59.4-76.3)), less often had anxiety (39.0% (28.4-50.9) versus 57.2% (48.4-65.6)) and less often had disabilities (25.8% (16.8-37.4) versus 48.1% (39.4-56.9)). Among women (only), online users were more often in good health (91.4% (81.3-96.2) versus 69.3% (57.4-79.2)). CONCLUSIONS: More than one third of STI testers used online services during this period. Differences exist in the characteristics of people accessing online versus other testing services. These data suggest that online services were more likely to be accessed by groups with typically lower risk of poor sexual health (white and in good health). Further investigation is needed, especially if online services are the only option offered, as differences in ability to access services could widen inequalities.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: There are high rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) worldwide. Adolescents and young adults (AYA) ages 15-24 years remain one of the populations that is most vulnerable to STIs. The goal of this review is to summarize recent international updates in adolescent STI screening and treatment. RECENT FINDINGS: Normalizing sexual history taking and STI testing, and advocating for adolescents to receive comprehensive sexuality education improves stigma surrounding sexual health. The global rise in syphilis is pervasive and includes high rates of infection among AYA and women of reproductive age - universal screening may be indicated depending on local epidemiology. Gonococcal antimicrobial resistance remains a significant public health concern worldwide, thus judicious use of antimicrobials and reporting cases of resistance is crucial. Sexual health services are increasingly using virtual platforms, which may be an effective strategy for STI testing and treatment among AYA. SUMMARY: Specific areas of focus to address the STI epidemic among AYA include reducing stigma surrounding sexual health, screening, and treatment of STIs, especially with the global rise in syphilis and high rates of gonorrhea resistance, in addition to increased use of telehealth services as effective education and intervention strategies.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer, primarily from HPV, is prevalent in countries like Mozambique, with HIV individuals at higher risk. The Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) screening method can be influenced by STIs like Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG). This study examines CT and NG prevalence in HIV-positive and negative women using VIA in Mozambique's DREAM program. METHODS: In this cross-sectional research conducted at a DREAM program facility in Maputo from 01/07/2021 to 31/05/2022, cervical specimens were taken from VIA-positive patients. CT/NG testing was performed using the Cobas® 4800 DNA CT/NG test. Statistical analyses focused on associations and prevalence rates, considering demographic, clinical, and exposure data. RESULTS: Among 117 women, we observed a CT prevalence of 6.8% (8/117) and an NG prevalence of 2.6%(3/117). No significant associations between CT/NG infection rates and factors such as age, HIV status, VIA results, or high-risk HPV (hrHPV) was observed. We found a 47% prevalence of hrHPV infections among participants with cervical lesions; no significant association between hrHPV and CT/NG infections was observed. CONCLUSION: This study highlights the prevalence of CT and NG in VIA-positive women in Mozambique, emphasizing the STI burden and suggesting integration of STI screening in cervical cancer prevention strategies.

PURPOSE: The vaginal microbiota offers valuable insights into women's sexual health and the risk of developing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and bacterial vaginosis. Despite the public health implications of changes in the vaginal environment, existing data on this topic remain sparse. METHODS: Following the PRISMA statement guidelines, we consulted five bibliographic databases, focusing on five main daily habits and behaviors. We included only studies published up to October 2023, investigating the influence of personal hygiene, sexual behaviors, hormonal contraception, smoking, alcohol consumption, and psychosocial stress on the vaginal microbiota using next-generation sequencing. RESULTS: Based on our inclusion criteria, we incorporated 37 studies into this review. Hormonal contraception and personal hygiene were found to promote eubiosis of the vaginal microbiota. In contrast, sexual behaviors, smoking, alcohol consumption, and psychosocial stress were associated with an increased susceptibility to bacterial vaginosis, STIs, and severe pelvic inflammatory diseases due to a modified vaginal microbiota. Black ethnicity emerged as a confounding factor, with this population showing unstable vaginal microbiota. Oral contraception and a stable male sexual partner were found to favor Lactobacillus colonization, acting as a protective factor. Conversely, non-hormonal contraception and unprotected or non-penile/vaginal sexual activity increased the incidence of vaginal inflammation and bacterial vaginosis by disturbing the vaginal microbiota and reducing Lactobacillus abundance. CONCLUSION: Daily habits and lifestyle can influence the composition of the vaginal microbiota, thereby affecting vaginal health. Disturbances in the vaginal microbiota could be associated factors for STIs and vaginosis. Therefore, prioritizing more appropriate management of the vaginal microbiota is crucial.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) face a disproportionate burden of sexually transmitted infections and are eligible for targeted vaccinations for hepatitis A (HAV), hepatitis B (HBV), human papilloma virus (HPV) and mpox. This study examines the sociodemographic characteristics, sexual behaviours, and sexual healthcare service (SHS) use associated with vaccination uptake. METHODS: We undertook analyses of RiiSH-Mpox - an online, community-based survey with GBMSM recruited via social media and dating apps. We calculated vaccination uptake (≥1 dose) among eligible GBMSM. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression was performed to identify factors independently associated with vaccination uptake among eligible participants. RESULTS: Reported uptake in eligible GBMSM was around two-thirds for each of the vaccinations considered: mpox 69% (95% confidence interval (CI): 66%-72%), HAV 68% (CI:65%-70%), HBV 72% (CI:69%-74%) and HPV 65% (CI:61%-68%). Vaccination course completion (receiving all recommended doses) ranged from 75% (HBV) to 89% (HAV) among eligible GBMSM. Individuals who represented missed opportunities for vaccination ranged from 22 to 30% of eligible SHS attendees. Younger participants, individuals identifying as bisexual, reporting lower educational qualifications, or being unemployed reported lower uptake across multiple GBMSM-selective vaccinations. Individuals who reported greater levels of sexual behaviour and recent SHS use were more likely to report vaccinations. CONCLUSION: Eligible participants reported high uptake of vaccinations; however, uptake was lower amongst young GBMSM and self-identifying bisexual men. Awareness of groups with lower vaccination uptake will help inform practice, delivery strategies and health promotion, to improve the reach and impact of vaccinations amongst GBMSM.

BACKGROUND: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are common and disproportionately affect Black adolescents and young adults (AYAs). Less is known about STIs among Black AYAs with chronic conditions, such as sickle cell disease (AYAs-SCD). This study compared STI testing and diagnosis between AYAs-SCD and their peers, overall and among STI-related encounters. PROCEDURE: This retrospective, cross-sectional study used diagnosis and billing codes in the Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) to identify inpatient and emergency department encounters from January 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023 among all AYAs 15-24 years and those with STI-related diagnoses (e.g., "cystitis"). STI testing and diagnosis rates were compared between AYAs-SCD, non-Black AYAs, and Black AYAs, controlling for age, sex, and encounter setting. RESULTS: We identified 3602 AYAs-SCD, 177,783 Black AYAs, and 534,495 non-Black AYAs. AYAs-SCD were less likely to be tested for STIs than non-Black AYAs (odds ratio [OR] = 0.26; adj. p < .001) and Black AYAs (OR = 0.53; adj. p < .001). When tested, AYAs-SCD were more likely to be diagnosed with an STI than non-Black AYAs (OR = 2.39; adj. p = .006) and as likely as Black AYAs (OR = 0.67; adj. p = .15). Among STI-related encounters, AYAs-SCD were less likely to be tested than non-Black AYAs (OR = 0.18; adj. p < .001) and Black AYAs (OR = 0.44; adj. p < .001). No significant differences in STI diagnoses were found in this subset between AYAs-SCD and non-Black AYAs (OR = 0.32; adj. p = .28) or Black AYAs (OR = 1.07; adj. p = .99). CONCLUSIONS: STI care gaps may disproportionately affect AYAs-SCD. STIs should be considered when evaluating symptomatic AYAs-SCD in acute settings. More research is needed to further contextualize STI care for AYAs-SCD.

The association between human papillomavirus (HPV) and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in anal lesions still remains unclear. Aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of simultaneous infection of HPV and Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Mycoplasma genitalium, and Trichomonas vaginalis in individuals screened for HPV anal infection. A total of 507 anal samples were tested for both anal HPV and STIs: 16% resulted positive for one or more non-HPV STIs. Specifically, C. trachomatis, M. genitalium, and N. gonorrhoeae were detected in 8%, 5%, and 4% of cases, respectively. Two groups were considered, including a positive STI group and a negative STI group. The prevalence of HPV was similar in patients in both groups: high risk (HR)-HPV and low risk (LR)-HPV were 67% and 53% versus 62% (p = 0.361) and 54% (p = 0.864) of patients, respectively. However, HPV 16, 18, 35, 51, 59, and 69 were significantly more frequent in patients tested positive for other STIs versus HPV infection alone (p < 0.05). No significant differences between the two groups were observed in vaccination coverage, 28% versus 32% (p = 0.463), and HIV status, 86% versus 84% (p = 0.658). The study shows that the overall HPV status is not directly correlated to other STIs in the investigated population, except for certain HPV types, including HR-HPV 16, reinforcing the urge for a greater vaccination coverage.

Introduction: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) cause considerable morbidity worldwide and, depending on the specific pathogen, may lead to serious complications in the female reproductive tract. Incarcerated women are particularly vulnerable to health problems with a disproportionate high rate of STIs, including infections with human papillomavirus (HPV). Methods: Here, cervical swab samples collected from 299 women (18 to 64 years) living in one of the women's prisons of São Paulo, Brazil were submitted for liquid-based cytology to determine the prevalence of precancerous lesions. Furthermore, direct detection of 30 genital HPV genotypes (18 high-risk and 12 low-risk types) and 11 additional STIs (Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Herpes simplex virus 1 and 2, Haemophilus ducreyi, Mycoplasma genitalium and hominis, Treponema pallidum, Trichomonas vaginalis, Ureaplasma parvum and urealyticum) were performed by molecular typing using two PCR-based DNA microarray systems, i.e., EUROArray HPV and EUROArray STI (EUROIMMUN), respectively. Results: The overall prevalence of cytological abnormalities was 5.8%, including five women with low-grade and five women with high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions. The overall prevalence of HPV was 62.2, and 87.1% of the HPV-positive women were infected with oncogenic high-risk (HR) HPV types. HPV types 16 (24.1%), 33 and 52 (both 10.4%) were the most frequently detected. The prevalence of the other STIs was 72.8%. Up to four different pathogens were found in the infected women, the most frequent being Ureaplasma parvum (45.3%), Mycoplasma hominis (36.2%) and Trichomonas vaginalis (24.8%). Conclusion: The high number of HR-HPV infections and other STIs described here highlights the fact that the Brazilian female prison population requires more attention in the country's health policies. The implementation of screening programs and treatment measures might contribute to a decrease in the incidence of STIs and cervical cancer in this vulnerable population. However, for such measures to be effective, further studies are needed to investigate the best practice to get more women to engage in in-prison prevention programs, e.g., through offering further sexual health education and self-sampling.

Background In Australia, syphilis notifications increased 2.5-fold during 2013-2022 and 83 congenital syphilis cases were reported. Timely diagnosis and management are crucial. We developed a tool to promote syphilis testing into our existing 'Future Health Today' (FHT) software and explored its acceptability in general practice. Methods Our tool (FHT-syphilis) scans electronic medical record data to identify and prompt testing for pregnant women, and, people recently tested for sexually transmissible infection (STI) or HIV, but not syphilis. It links to relevant guidelines and patient resources. We implemented FHT-syphilis in 52 general practices using FHT for other conditions and interviewed practice clinicians (n =9) to explore it's acceptability. Data were analysed deductively guided by the Theoretical Framework of Acceptability. Results Interviewees considered syphilis an important infection to focus on and broadly viewed FHT-syphilis as acceptable for identifying patients and giving clinicians authority to discuss syphilis testing. Time constraints and unrelated reasons for a patient's visit were barriers to initiating syphilis testing discussions. Australian STI guidelines were considered appropriate to link to. Some interviewees considered prompts should be based on sexual behaviour, however this is not well captured in the electonic medical record. Two interviewees were alerted to updated Australian STI guidelines via their interaction with FHT-syphilis and expanded their syphilis testing practices. Expertise to initiate discussions about syphilis and risk was deemed important. Conclusions A digital tool for prompting syphilis testing was acceptable to clinicians already using FHT. Linkage to STI guidelines alerted some end-users to updated guidelines, informing STI testing practices.

OBJECTIF: Présenter un guide à l'intention des professionnels des soins primaires sur le dépistage approprié des infections transmissibles sexuellement (ITS) chez des patients qui s'identifient comme des hommes ayant des rapports sexuels avec des hommes (HSH). SOURCES DE L'INFORMATION: Les lignes directrices canadiennes sur le dépistage des ITS et des infections entériques et par des protozoaires; les lignes directrices ontariennes sur le dépistage du VIH et du mpox; et les lignes directrices américaines sur le dépistage des ITS. MESSAGE PRINCIPAL: Dans toutes les régions du Canada, les taux des infections bactériennes, entériques, par protozoaires et systémiques, y compris le VIH et la mpox, qui sont transmissibles sexuellement, ont augmenté de manière constante chez les HSH cisgenres et transgenres. Même si elles présentent souvent des tableaux cliniques semblables, ces infections ont diverses périodes d'incubation et requièrent des méthodes de dépistage différentes, et leur présence doit être effectivement exclue afin d'orienter le diagnostic et le traitement chez des patients qui s'identifient comme des HSH et ont des symptômes de divers problèmes de santé. Par ailleurs, les renseignements et les recommandations cliniques se trouvent souvent dans de multiples lignes directrices plutôt que dans une seule source, ce qui complique encore davantage ces rencontres cliniques. Ce document fournit une consolidation des données probantes et des recommandations sur le dépistage des ITS chez les HSH. CONCLUSION: Les approches de dépistage des ITS devraient être rigoureuses, et fondées sur les facteurs de risque signalés par le patient et sur la présentation clinique. Lorsqu'un risque d'ITS est cerné, mais que les résultats des analyses en laboratoire sont négatifs, il faudrait aussi expliquer aux HSH les recommandations entourant la répétition des tests, de même que les services de prévention du VIH, comme la prophylaxie préexposition.

OBJECTIVE: To provide a guide on appropriate sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing for primary care providers to use with patients who identify as men who have sex with men (MSM). SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Canadian guidelines for STI testing and enteric and protozoan infections; Ontario guidelines for HIV screening and mpox; and US guidelines for STI testing. MAIN MESSAGE: Across Canada rates of sexually transmitted bacterial, enteric, protozoan, and systemic infections-including HIV and mpox-have been steadily increasing among cisgender and transgender MSM. Despite often having similar clinical presentations, these infections have different incubation periods and testing approaches and must be ruled out effectively to guide diagnosis and treatment for MSM-identifying patients who present with symptoms of various conditions. Clinical information and screening recommendations, however, are often found in multiple guidelines rather than in a single source, thus further complicating these clinical encounters. This document provides a consolidated set of evidence and recommendations for STI testing in MSM. CONCLUSION: Testing approaches for STIs should be comprehensive and based on the patient's reported risk factors and clinical presentation. Where ongoing STI risk is identified and negative laboratory test results are received, MSM should also be counselled on recommendations for repeat screening and HIV prevention services, such as preexposure prophylaxis.
