Consento (CON) poses a significant environmental hazard as a systemic fungicide, adversely affecting the health of non-target organisms. Nitric oxide (NO), a signaling molecule, is known to play a crucial role in plant physiology and abiotic stress tolerance. However, whether NO plays any role to enhance fungicide CON tolerance in wheat seedlings is yet unclear. Therefore, we conducted a hydroponic experiment i) to investigate the morpho-physio-biochemical changes of wheat seedlings to fungicide CON stress, and ii) to examine the effects of NO and fungicide CON treatments on oxidative damage, antioxidant system, secondary metabolism and detoxification of systemic fungicide in wheat seedlings. The results showed that CON fungicide at the highest (4X) concentration significantly decreased wheat seedlings fresh weight (46.89%), shoot length (40.26%), root length (56.11%) and total chlorophyll contents (67.44%) in a dose response relationship. Moreover, CON significantly increased hydrogen peroxide, malondialdehyde, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, glutathione-S-transferase, and peroxidase activities while decreased reduced glutathione (GSH) content. This ultimately impaired the redox homeostasis of cells, leading to oxidative damage in cell membrane. Under fungicide treatment, the addition of NO reduced the fungicide phytotoxicity, with an increase of over 60% in seedling growth. The NO application mitigated CON phytotoxicity as reflected by significantly increased chlorophyll pigments (69.88%) and decreased oxidative damage in wheat leaves. Indeed, the NO alleviatory effect was able to increase the tolerance of seedlings to fungicide, which resulted increments in antioxidant and detoxification enzymes activity, with the enhanced GSH level (78.54%). Interestingly, NO alleviated CON phytotoxicity through the phenylpropanoid pathway by enhancing the activity of secondary metabolism enzymes such as phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (47.28%), polyphenol oxidase (9%), and associated metabolites such as phenolic acids (77.62%), flavonoids (34.33%) in wheat leaves. Our study has provided evidence that NO plays a key role in the metabolism and detoxification of systemic fungicide in wheat through enhanced activity of antioxidants, detoxifications and secondary metabolic enzymes.

Pakistan has limited natural gas reserves, and most are found onshore. This article reports on the problems of an onshore gas gathering network (GGN) analysed through steady-state simulation modelling using PIPESIM software. The research methodology incorporates a comprehensive steady-state hydraulic analysis considering fluid flowing velocity limitations, liquid holdup and slugging along with other issues faced by gas gathering networks. The steady-state hydraulic analysis has led us to pinpoint specific GGN pipelines facing critically low gas velocities and consequent liquid holdup. Addressing these issues involved application of PIPESIM software for modelling, considering various operating schemes of gas-producing wells and their associated pipelines. To select an optimal operating scheme, the study utilized the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for operational optimization, to identify the most effective solution for reduced liquid holdup, improving production, and ensuring the safe operation among available alternatives. Findings from our hydraulic analysis highlight the importance of reducing GGN outlet pressure to mitigate challenges associated with liquid holdup which causes slugging and back pressure effect at source leading to low production and poor performance of the GGN. Study of three alternative cases reveals that decreasing outlet pressure lowers the liquid holdup, improve gas flowing velocities, and enhanced overall production. These findings validate our hypothesis that reducing GGN outlet pressure is a viable strategy to lower the liquid holdup in pipelines. This research offers significant value by providing a comprehensive solution to GGN liquid holdup, low flowing velocities, back pressure and low production challenges. The integration of steady-state hydraulic analysis, simulation modelling with PIPESIM, and the application of AHP for optimization contributes novel insights into the optimization of operation of gas gathering networks. Emphasizing the reduction of liquid holdup and enhancing production through outlet pressure adjustments offers a practical framework for optimizing the functionality of gas gathering networks.

Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has emerged as an innovative tool with broad medical applications, including ovarian cancer (OC) treatment. By bringing CAP in close proximity to liquids such as water or cell culture media, solutions containing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) are generated, called plasma-activated media (PAM). In this systematic review, we conduct an in-depth analysis of studies focusing on PAM interactions with biological substrates. We elucidate the diverse mechanisms involved in the activation of different media and the complex network of chemical reactions underlying the generation and consumption of the prominent reactive species. Furthermore, we highlight the promises of PAM in advancing biomedical applications, such as its stability for extended periods under appropriate storage conditions. We also examine the application of PAM as an anti-cancer and anti-metastatic treatment for OC, with a particular emphasis on its ability to induce apoptosis via distinct signaling pathways, inhibit cell growth, suppress cell motility, and enhance the therapeutic effects of chemotherapy. Finally, the future outlook of PAM therapy in biomedical applications is speculated, with emphasis on the safety issues relevant to clinical translation.

For less fit patients, total reconstruction of the mandible (TRM) is an elucidated alternative for severe maxillofacial defects. This study aimed to comprehensively review and analyze the existing evidence, irrespective of the underlying pathologies, to provide a consolidated overview of the current state of TRM. An electronic search was performed on PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Google Scholar to identify studies reporting TRM without restrictions on patient age, type of pathology underlying the mandibular defect, and study type. Electronic search identified 390 studies; only 21 met the inclusion criteria, documenting 7 (33.3%) autogenous, 6 (28.6%) alloplastic, and 8 (38.1%) hybrid TRMs. All studies reported one clinical case, except for two studies that reported two patients treated with TRM. The mean age of the patients was 39.0 ± 19.4 years, and the mean follow-up was 22.3 ± 14.7 months. Osteomyelitis was the most common pathology. Bilateral condyles were preserved in only two cases. The TRM has been reported in clinical cases only and no large cohort study is available. Functional and aesthetic parameters have either not been reported or have been reported in heterogeneous formats, thus hampering comparisons of autogenous, alloplastic, and hybrid TRMs. Overall, TRM in patients presenting with severe maxillofacial defects achieved promising clinical outcomes endowed with acceptable function and aesthetics. Large cohort studies are needed to validate these results.

Natural gas and condensate are exposed to hydrates formation at high pressure and low temperature in the presence of traces of water. Hydrates formation results in blockage of pipelines and equipment leading to plant shutdown and production losses. This study intends to find a novel hydrate prevention process for high pressure refrigerated condensate (HPRC) lines. HPRC is utilised as lean oil for enhanced liquified petroleum gas recovery in absorption process. This research was conducted by performing fifteen tests in which various processed natural gas (PNG) samples were injected into different HPRC samples using Aspen HYSYS software. The results showed lowering of the hydrates formation temperature in the HPRC at constant pressure. By capitalizing on in-house resources and reducing dependence on traditional hydrate inhibitors, this innovative approach offers cost-effectiveness and readily available hydrate inhibitor for HPRC lines in gas processing facilities. Moreover, it has been found that PNG samples with a relatively higher percentage of methane are more effective in lowering the hydrate formation temperature when injected into the HPRC lines. This study will enable hydrates researchers in reducing hydrates management costs in HPRC lines and invite hydrates prevention research in all areas capitalizing on in-house resources and reducing external dependence.

Curcumin is a natural compound derived from turmeric and can target malignant tumor molecules involved in cancer propagation. It has potent antioxidant activity, but its effectiveness is limited due to poor absorption and rapid elimination from the body. Various curcumin derivatives have also shown anticancer potential in in-vitro and in-vivo models. Curcumin can target multiple signaling pathways involved in cancer development/progression or induce cancer cell death through apoptosis. In addition, curcumin and its derivatives could also enhance the effectiveness of conventional chemotherapy, radiation therapy and reduce their associated side effects. Lately, nanoparticle-based delivery systems are being developed/explored to overcome the challenges associated with curcumin's delivery, increasing its overall efficacy. The use of an imaging system to track these formulations could also give beneficial information about the bioavailability and distribution of the nano-curcumin complex. In conclusion, curcumin holds significant promise in the fight against cancer, especially in its nanoform, and could provide precise delivery to cancer cells without affecting normal healthy cells.

INTRODUCTION: The use of alloplastic total temporomandibular joint reconstruction (TMJR) in growing patients is controversial, mainly due to immature elements of the craniomaxillofacial skeleton. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the use of alloplastic TMJR in growing patients, focusing on the patient's clinical presentation, surgical and medical history and efficacy of alloplastic TMJR implantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The literature search strategy was based on the Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcomes and Study type (PICOS) framework. We searched Pubmed, Google Scholar, Dimension, Web of Science, X-mol, Semantic Scholar and Embase to January 2023, without any restriction on the type of publication reporting alloplastic TMJR in growing patients (age ≤ 18 years for boys and age ≤ 15 years for girls). RESULTS: A total of 15 studies (case reports: 09, case series: 02, cohort studies: 04) met the inclusion criteria, documenting 73 patients of growing age from 07 countries. Thirty-eight (~ 52%) cases were female. The mean ± SD (range) age and follow-up of patients in all studies was 13.1 ± 3.2 (0-17) years and 34.3 ± 21.5 (7-96) months, respectively. A total of 22 (30%) patients were implanted with bilateral alloplastic TMJR. Over half of the studies (n = 10) were published in the last 3 years. All patients underwent multiple surgeries prior to implantation of alloplastic TMJR. In extreme cases, patients underwent a total of 17 surgeries. Different types of studies reporting inconsistent variables restricted our ability to perform quality assessment measures for evidence building. CONCLUSIONS: Clinical experience with alloplastic TMJR in growing patients is limited to cases showing poor prognosis with other types of reconstruction. Nevertheless, studies show promising results for the use of alloplastic TMJR in growing patients, highlighting the need for well-controlled prospective studies with long-term follow-up.

Conductive agro-industrial wastes as accelerants in the anaerobic digestion (AD) of organic waste is a good technique for developing a rural circular economy, such as producing bioenergy and biofertilizer. This study disclosed the a role of sugar cane bagasse ash (SCBA) in enhancing the bioenergy (biogas) yield and digestate fertility via anaerobic co-digestion (AcoD) of buffalo dung (BD) and vegetable residue (VR) under mesophilic conditions (37 á´¼C). Firstly, an optimal BD/VR ratio (1:3) was determined based on biogas yield by introducing five different BD/VR ratios (1:0, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3, and 0:1) into AcoD systems. Secondly, the biogas yield was increased further by adding SCBA at five different concentrations (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 wt%). Experimental results disclosed that the 1.5 wt% of SCBA gave the highest cumulative biogas yield (153.67 mL/g VS), COD removal rate (31.18%), and fertility (5.08%). Moreover, a framework is suggested to understand the role of SCBA in the enhanced DIET mechanism. This work documents an environmentally friendly and economical technique for developing a rural circular bioeconomy via the AD of organic agro-waste.

Background: Naswar, a smokeless tobacco product, commonly consumed in Pakistan, is associated with a 10-fold increase in the risk of oral cancer. However, little is known about Naswar's underlying toxicity mechanisms. Objective: The current study aimed to investigate the effects of Naswar use on oral health and salivary parameters. Methods: A case-control study was conducted among Naswar users (n=42) and age-matched healthy controls (n=42) in Pakistan in 2019. Participant data were collected using questionnaires. Decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) scores were computed during clinical examinations. Unstimulated whole saliva was collected to assess salivary flow rate, pH, and salivary total oxidative stress (TOS)/total antioxidant capacity (TAC) using commercially available kits. Participants' oral health parameters were compared between cases and controls using ANOVA. Results: No significant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of age, oral health, and hygiene practices and mean DMFT score. Mean salivary pH and the salivary flow rate was significantly (p<0.001) higher in Naswar users (7.7 and 0.71 mL/minute, respectively) than in non-users (6.95 and 0.52 mL/minute, respectively). Although TOS and TAC were not significantly different between the groups, Naswar users generally had a higher TOS (51.6±42 µmol/L) and lower TAC (0.55±0.18 mmol/L) than non-users (TOS 45.5±38.2 µmol/L and TAC 0.57±0.17 mmol/L). Correlational analysis also revealed a significant positive correlation between DMFT score and Naswar use duration (r=0.796, p<0.001) and the number of dips/units consumed each day (r=0.515; p<0.001). Conclusion: Habitual Naswar use is associated with increased salivary flow rate, pH, and TOS, and reduced TAC levels in Pakistani adults compared to non-users. The pro-oxidant changes may contribute toward deleterious effects of Naswar use including oral cancer.

In this article, we analyze the dynamics of the non-linear tumor-immune delayed (TID) model illustrating the interaction among tumor cells and the immune system (cytotoxic T lymphocytes, T helper cells), where the delays portray the times required for molecule formation, cell growth, segregation, and transportation, among other factors by exploiting the knacks of soft computing paradigm utilizing neural networks with back propagation Levenberg Marquardt approach (NNLMA). The governing differential delayed system of non-linear TID, which comprised the densities of the tumor population, cytotoxic T lymphocytes and T helper cells, is represented by non-linear delay ordinary differential equations with three classes. The baseline data is formulated by exploiting the explicit Runge-Kutta method (RKM) by diverting the transmutation rate of Tc to Th of the Tc population, transmutation rate of Tc to Th of the Th population, eradication of tumor cells through Tc cells, eradication of tumor cells through Th cells, Tc cells' natural mortality rate, Th cells' natural mortality rate as well as time delay. The approximated solution of the non-linear TID model is determined by randomly subdividing the formulated data samples for training, testing, as well as validation sets in the network formulation and learning procedures. The strength, reliability, and efficacy of the designed NNLMA for solving non-linear TID model are endorsed by small/negligible absolute errors, error histogram studies, mean squared errors based convergence and close to optimal modeling index for regression measurements.

Cancer is a global health concern with a dynamic rise in occurrence and one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Among different types of cancer, ovarian cancer (OC) is the seventh most diagnosed malignant tumor, while among the gynecological malignancies, it ranks third after cervical and uterine cancer and sadly bears the highest mortality and worst prognosis. First-line treatments have included a variety of cytotoxic and synthetic chemotherapeutic medicines, but they have not been particularly effective in extending OC patients' lives and are associated with side effects, recurrence risk, and drug resistance. Hence, a shift from synthetic to phytochemical-based agents is gaining popularity, and researchers are looking into alternative, cost-effective, and safer chemotherapeutic strategies. Lately, studies on the effectiveness of phenolic acids in ovarian cancer have sparked the scientific community's interest because of their high bioavailability, safety profile, lesser side effects, and cost-effectiveness. Yet this is a road less explored and critically analyzed and lacks the credibility of the novel findings. Phenolic acids are a significant class of phytochemicals usually considered in the nonflavonoid category. The current review focused on the anticancer potential of phenolic acids with a special emphasis on chemoprevention and treatment of OC. We tried to summarize results from experimental, epidemiological, and clinical studies unraveling the benefits of various phenolic acids (hydroxybenzoic acid and hydroxycinnamic acid) in chemoprevention and as anticancer agents of clinical significance.

Cancer and diabetes mellitus (DM) are among the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in the global arena. Lately, several studies demonstrated that DM could promote cancer. However, the exact mechanism(s) highlighting this association are largely untouched and require comprehensive detailing. In the present review, we aimed to explore and decipher the possible mechanism of DM an cancer association. Hyperglycemia could be a subordinate plausible explanation of carcinogenesis in the diabatic patient. It is well known that high glucose levels may help in cancer proliferation. In addition, chronic inflammation, the other well-known factor of diabetes, could also play a role in carcinogenesis. Moreover, the numerous medicines to treat diabetes either increase or reduce cancer risk. Insulin is one of the potent growth factors that promotes cell propagation and induces cancer directly or via insulin like growth factor-1. On the other hand, hyperinsulinemia leads to an increased activity of growth factor-1 by inhibiting growth factor binding protein-1. To improve cancer prognosis, individuals with diabetes should be screened to discover cancer at an early stage and treated appropriately.

PURPOSE: The Surgical CAse REport (SCARE) guidelines are a standardized format for reporting surgical cases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the completeness of case reports documenting alloplastic reconstruction of large craniomaxillofacial defects involving total mandibular, bilateral, and extended temporomandibular joint in major high-quality craniomaxillofacial journals, based on the SCARE guidelines. METHODS: An extensive online search was performed according to the Priority Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Dimensions databases to identify relevant case reports. Each selected case report was assessed on 16 topics (38 items) of the SCARE guidelines, using a scoring scale of "0" (No/noncompliance), "1" (Yes/compliance), and "2" (unclear). The completeness of reporting (COR) score was calculated as the ratio of "yes" responses to "total" (ie, yes + no + unclear) responses. Adequacy of case reporting was denoted by a COR score of 70% or more. RESULTS: A total of 35 case reports were selected, where the male to female patients ratio was 3:4 cases, mean ± standard deviation (SD) age: 34.9 ± 16.7 years, mean ± SD follow-up duration: 17.0 ± 12.9 months, and number of patients with left, right, and bilateral temporomandibular joint reconstruction prostheses were 16, 10, and 09, respectively. The mean ± SD COR score for all 35 case reports and the individual item of the SCARE guidelines was 70.2 ± 10.5% and 66.5 ± 31.2%, respectively. The minimum and maximum COR score was found for "Keywords" (0.0%) and "Introduction" (100%) and "Clinical Findings" (100%), respectively. Adequate reporting was found for 20/35 (57%) case reports. CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed that case reports in major high-quality craniomaxillofacial journals suffer from insufficient reporting. Widespread adoption of available standards, such as SCARE guidelines, is proposed to improve the quality and robustness of case reporting.

Cancer development is associated with the deregulation of various cell signaling pathways brought on by certain genetic and epigenetic alterations. Therefore, novel therapeutic strategies have been developed to target those pathways. The phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt)/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) (PI3K/Akt/mTOR) pathway is one major deregulated pathway in various types of cancer. Several anticancer drug candidates are currently being investigated in preclinical and/or clinical studies to target this pathway. Natural bioactive compounds provide an excellent source for anticancer drug development. Curcumin and plumbagin are two potential anticancer compounds that have been shown to target the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway individually. However, their combinatorial effect on cancer cells is still unknown. This study aims to investigate the synergistic effect of these two compounds on the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway by employing a sequential molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) analysis. An increase in binding affinity and a decrease in inhibition constant have been observed when curcumin and plumbagin were subjected to sequential docking against the key proteins PI3K, Akt, and mTOR. The MD simulations and molecular mechanics combined with generalized Born surface area (MM-GBSA) analyses validated the target proteins' more stable conformation when interacting with the curcumin and plumbagin combination. This indicates the synergistic role of curcumin and plumbagin against cancer cells and the possible dose advantage when used in combination. The findings of this study pave the way for further investigation of their combinatorial effect on cancer cells in vitro and in vivo models.

The recent advancement of nanoparticles (NPs) holds significant potential for treating various ailments. NPs are employed as drug carriers for diseases like cancer because of their small size and increased stability. In addition, they have several desirable properties that make them ideal for treating bone cancer, including high stability, specificity, higher sensitivity, and efficacy. Furthermore, they might be taken into account to permit the precise drug release from the matrix. Drug delivery systems for cancer treatment have progressed to include nanocomposites, metallic NPs, dendrimers, and liposomes. Materials' mechanical strength, hardness, electrical and thermal conductivity, and electrochemical sensors are significantly improved using nanoparticles (NPs). New sensing devices, drug delivery systems, electrochemical sensors, and biosensors can all benefit considerably from the NPs' exceptional physical and chemical capabilities. Nanotechnology is discussed in this article from a variety of angles, including its recent applications in the medical sciences for the effective treatment of bone cancers and its potential as a promising option for treating other complex health anomalies via the use of anti-tumour therapy, radiotherapy, the delivery of proteins, antibiotics, and vaccines, and other methods. This also brings to light the role that model simulations can play in diagnosing and treating bone cancer, an area where Nanomedicine has recently been formulated. There has been a recent uptick in using nanotechnology to treat conditions affecting the skeleton. Consequently, it will pave the door for more effective utilization of cutting-edge technology, including electrochemical sensors and biosensors, and improved therapeutic outcomes.

A-to-I RNA editing is a very important post-transcriptional modification or co-transcriptional modification that creates isoforms and increases the diversity of proteins. In this process, adenosine (A) in RNA molecules is hydrolyzed and deaminated into inosine (I). It is well known that ADAR (adenosine deaminase acting on RNA)-dependent A-to-I mRNA editing is widespread in animals. Next, the discovery of A-to-I mRNA editing was mediated by TadA (tRNA-specific adenosine deaminase) in Escherichia coli which is ADAR-independent event. Previously, the editing event S128P on the flagellar structural protein FliC enhanced the bacterial tolerance to oxidative stress in Xoc. In addition, the editing events T408A on the enterobactin iron receptor protein XfeA act as switches by controlling the uptake of Fe3+ in response to the concentration of iron in the environment. Even though bacteria have fewer editing events, the great majority of those that are currently preserved have adaptive benefits. Interestingly, it was found that a TadA-independent A-to-I RNA editing event T408A occurred on xfeA, indicating that there may be other new enzymes that perform a function like TadA. Here, we review recent advances in the characteristics, functions, and adaptations of editing in bacteria.

Alloplastic total temporomandibular joint replacement (TMJR) is the treatment of choice for end-stage temporomandibular joint diseases. Extended TMJR (eTMJR) is a modification of the standard alloplastic fossa-condyle joint that includes components extending further to the skull base or the mandible. The aim of this study is to review the use of the eTMJR prosthesis for the treatment of large craniomaxillofacial defects. Data mining was performed according to the PRISMA statement using online search in databases such as PubMed (Medline), Google Scholar, Dimensions, Semantic Scholar and Web of Science. A total of 19 case reports, 08 case series and 03 retrospective studies were identified. A total of 49 patients were presented in the case reports and case series, who were implanted with 56 eTMJR prostheses (07 bilateral and 42 unilateral procedures). The mean age of the patients was 36.02±16.54 years, the male to female patient ratio was 1:1.72 and the mean follow-up time was 23.74 ± 19.83 months. The eTMJR prosthesis was most frequently used to treat ameloblastoma and hemifacial microsomia. Analysis of the retrospective studies was performed in three domains: the baseline characteristic of patients, treatment outcomes in terms of functional variables and complications after eTMJR prostheses implantation. This study concluded that the implantion of the eTMJR prosthesis was uncommon, that appropriate class of eTMJR prosthesis was not reported, and that the width of the mandibular component (like the length) of eTMJR prosthesis has substantial variations.
