Background and purpose: As patients with advanced melanoma live longer in the context of systemic therapy advancements, better strategies for durable control of bulky tumors are needed. In this study, we evaluated if dose-escalated hypofractionated radiation therapy (HFRT) can provide durable local control and improve tumor-associated symptoms in patients with unresectable or bulky metastatic melanoma for whom stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (RT) approaches are not feasible due to tumor size or location. Materials and methods: We retrospectively reviewed 49 patients with unresectable or bulky metastatic melanoma who were treated to a total of 53 tumor targets with 12-17 fractions HFRT at our institution between 2015-2022. Clinical scenarios included: unresectable, locoregional only disease (26 %); oligometastatic disease (<3 total sites, 17 %); oligoprogressive disease (<3 sites progressing, 17 %); and aggressive palliation (>5 known sites of disease or with at least 3 sites progressing, 40 %). Results: Of the 53 HFRT targets, 91 % (n = 48) had radiographic evidence of response as defined by either stabilization (6 %, n = 3), decreased size (74 %, n = 39), or decreased FDG avidity (11 %, n = 6). Of the 43 symptomatic patients, 98 % (n = 42) had symptomatic improvement. One -year local control was 79 %, with 2-year progression-free and overall survival of 33 % and 39 % respectively. The most common acute toxicities were radiation dermatitis (16 %, n = 8) or a pain flare (14 %, n = 7). Late toxicities were uncommon and typically grade 1. Conclusion: HFRT provides favorable local control and symptomatic relief with limited toxicity in tumors not amenable to surgical resection or stereotactic ablative RT.

PURPOSE: The lungs are the most common site of metastasis for patients with soft tissue sarcoma. SABR is commonly employed to treat lung metastases among select patients with sarcoma with limited disease burden. We sought to evaluate outcomes and patterns of failure among patients with sarcoma treated with SABR for their lung metastases. METHODS AND MATERIALS: We performed a retrospective review of patients treated at a tertiary cancer center between 2006 and 2020. Patient disease status at the time of SABR was categorized as either oligorecurrent or oligoprogressive. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate disease outcomes. Uni- and multivariable analyses were conducted using the Cox proportional hazards model. RESULTS: We identified 70 patients with soft tissue sarcoma treated with SABR to 98 metastatic lung lesions. Local recurrence-free survival after SABR treatment was 83% at 2 years. On univariable analysis, receipt of comprehensive SABR to all sites of pulmonary metastatic disease at the time of treatment was associated with improved progression-free survival (PFS; hazard ratio [HR], 0.51 [0.29-0.88]; P = .02). On multivariable analysis, only having systemic disease controlled at the time of SABR predicted improved PFS (median PFS, 14 vs 4 months; HR, 0.37 [0.20-0.69]; P = .002) and overall survival (median overall survival, 51 vs 14 months; HR, 0.17 [0.08-0.35]; P < .0001). CONCLUSIONS: SABR provides durable long-term local control for sarcoma lung metastases. The most important predictor for improved outcomes was systemic disease control. Careful consideration of these factors should help guide decisions in a multidisciplinary setting to appropriately select the optimal candidates for SABR.

Evaluation of our practice and recommend an appropriate fluid regime to maintain the fluid and electrolyte balance in the post operative period. The drug chart and clinical notes were retrospectively analysed manually of 758 patients who underwent surgery from January 2020 to January 2022 in Enam Medical College Hospital and Ibnsina Medical College Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh were reviewed by 3 individual clinicians and the obtained data were analysed. Total 407 patients met the inclusion criteria for the study. Fifty seven (57) patients underwent emergency operation and 350 patients had elective surgery. The average fluid replacement was 2.5 L/day, average Sodium- 154 mmol/day, average potassium 2.0 mmol/day and average glucose 125 mmol/day. Post operatively 97 patients developed hypokalemia. Among them 25 patients developed severe hypokalemia. A simple pathway for prescribing post operative fluid and electrolyte was proposed so that patients during 1st post operative day requiring maintenance fluid will have 25-30 ml/kg/day of water, approximately 1-2 mmol/kg/day Sodium and chloride, 1 mmol/kg/day of potassium and approximately 50-100 gm/day of glucose.

INTRODUCTION: We investigated outcomes and prognostic factors for patients treated for cutaneous angiosarcoma (CA). METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of patients treated for CA of the face and scalp from 1962 to 2019. All received definitive treatment with surgery, radiation (RT), or a combination (S-XRT). The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate outcomes. Multivariable analyses were conducted using the Cox proportional hazards model. RESULTS: For the 143 patients evaluated median follow-up was 33 months. Five-year LC was 51% and worse in patients with tumors >5 cm, multifocal tumors, those treated pre-2000, and with single modality therapy (SMT). These remained associated with worse LC on multivariable analysis. The 5-year disease-specific survival (DSS) for the cohort was 56%. Tumor size >5 cm, non-scalp primary site, treatment pre-2000, and SMT were associated with worse DSS. CONCLUSION: Large or multifocal tumors are negative prognostic factors in patients with head and neck CA. S-XRT improved outcomes.

PURPOSE: Local consolidative therapy (LCT) for patients with synchronous oligometastatic non-small-cell lung cancer is an evolving treatment strategy, but outcomes following LCT stratified by genetic mutations have not been reported. We sought to identify genomic associations with overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) for these patients. METHODS: We identified all patients presenting between 2000 and 2017 with stage IV non-small-cell lung cancer and ≤ 3 synchronous metastatic sites. Patients were grouped according to mutational statuses. Primary outcomes included OS and PFS following initial diagnosis. RESULTS: Of 194 included patients, 121 received comprehensive LCT to all sites of disease with either surgery or radiation. TP53 mutations were identified in 40 of 78 (55%), KRAS in 32 of 95 (34%), EGFR in 24 of 109 (22%), and STK11 in nine of 77 (12%). At median follow-up of 96 months, median OS and PFS were 26 (95% CI, 23 to 31) months and 11 (95% CI, 9 to 13) months, respectively. On multivariable analysis, patients with EGFR mutations had lower mortality risk (hazard ratio [HR], 0.53; 95% CI, 0.29 to 0.98; P = .044) compared with wild-type patients, and patients with STK11 mutations had higher risk of progression or mortality (HR, 2.32; 95% CI, 1.12 to 4.79; P = .023) compared with wild-type patients. TP53 and KRAS mutations were not associated with OS or PFS. Among 71 patients with known EGFR mutational status who received comprehensive LCT, EGFR mutations were associated with lower mortality compared with wild-type (HR, 0.45; 95% CI, 0.22 to 0.94; P = .032). CONCLUSION: When compared with wild-type patients, those with EGFR and STK11 mutations had longer OS and shorter PFS, respectively. EGFR mutations were associated with longer OS among oligometastatic patients treated with comprehensive LCT in addition to systemic therapy.

Locoregional recurrence (LRR) is the predominant pattern of relapse and often the cause of death in patients with retroperitoneal sarcomas (RPS). As a result, reducing LRR is a critical objective for RPS patients. However, unlike soft tissue sarcomas (STS) of the superficial trunk and extremity where the benefits of radiation therapy (RT) are well-established, the role of RT in the retroperitoneum remains controversial. Historically, preoperative or postoperative RT, either alone or in combination with intraoperative radiation (IORT), was commonly justified for RPS based on extrapolation from the superficial trunk and extremity STS literature. However, long-awaited results were recently published from the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) STRASS study of preoperative radiotherapy plus surgery versus surgery alone for patients with RPS; there was no statistical difference in the primary endpoint of abdominal recurrence-free survival. However, several subset analyses and study limitations complicate the interpretation of the results. This review explores and contextualizes the body of evidence regarding RT's role in managing RPS.

BACKGROUND: Gynecologic tract melanoma (GTM) is a rare malignancy with historically poor outcomes. The current study examines patterns of care and oncologic outcomes in a large single-institution cohort from the contemporary therapeutic era. METHODS: Patterns of care and predictors of outcomes were evaluated for all GTM patients without metastatic disease at diagnosis who were treated at our institution between 2009 and 2020 with >6 months of follow-up. RESULTS: Of the 124 patients included, anatomic subsites were vulvar (n = 82, 66%), vaginal (n = 34, 27%), or cervical (n = 8, 6%). Primary tumor was resected for 85% (n = 106) with surgical nodal evaluation for 60% (n = 75). Systemic therapy, most commonly immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI, 58% systemic therapy), was used to treat all except one unresectable patient (17/18) and 33% (35/106) of resectable patients. Seven patients received neoadjuvant ICI. Fourteen patients received adjuvant radiation therapy to the pelvis (RT, 13% of those undergoing resection). With a median follow-up of 45 months, 100 patients (81%) recurred. Four-year actuarial outcomes were: 46% local control, 53% nodal control, 36% distant metastasis-free survival, 17% disease-free survival, 49% melanoma-specific survival and 48% overall survival. Mitotic rate > 10/mm2, nodal involvement and non-vulvar anatomic subsite were associated with poor outcomes. Patients treated after 2016 did not have significantly better outcomes than those treated earlier. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with GTM continue to have poor outcomes in the contemporary therapeutic era with particularly notable poor local disease control relative to other mucosal melanoma subtypes. More effective oncologic therapy is needed.

Drought is a major environmental threat to agricultural productivity and food security across the world. Therefore, addressing the detrimental effects of drought on vital crops like soybean has a significant impact on sustainable food production. Priming plants with organic compounds is now being considered as a promising technique for alleviating the negative effects of drought on plants. In the current study, we evaluated the protective functions of ethanol in enhancing soybean drought tolerance by examining the phenotype, growth attributes, and several physiological and biochemical mechanisms. Our results showed that foliar application of ethanol (20 mM) to drought-stressed soybean plants increased biomass, leaf area per trifoliate, gas exchange features, water-use-efficiency, photosynthetic pigment contents, and leaf relative water content, all of which contributed to the improved growth performance of soybean under drought circumstances. Drought stress, on the other hand, caused significant accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as superoxide and hydrogen peroxide, and malondialdehyde, as well as an increase of electrolyte leakage in the leaves, underpinning the evidence of oxidative stress and membrane damage in soybean plants. By comparison, exogenous ethanol reduced the ROS-induced oxidative burden by boosting the activities of antioxidant enzymes, including peroxidase, catalase, glutathione S-transferase, and ascorbate peroxidase, and the content of total flavonoids in soybean leaves exposed to drought stress. Additionally, ethanol supplementation increased the contents of total soluble sugars and free amino acids in the leaves of drought-exposed plants, implying that ethanol likely employed these compounds for osmotic adjustment in soybean under water-shortage conditions. Together, our findings shed light on the ethanol-mediated protective mechanisms by which soybean plants coordinated different morphophysiological and biochemical responses in order to increase their drought tolerance.

PURPOSE: The treatment paradigm for patients with anorectal melanoma eligible for sphincter-sparing excision has evolved over time. This study examines outcomes across a 30-year era in this rare disease with poor prognosis. METHODS AND MATERIALS: This retrospective cohort study included all patients with pelvis-confined anorectal melanoma undergoing sphincter-sparing local excision and adjuvant radiation therapy (RT) at our institution between 1989 and 2020. Patterns of care and predictors of outcome were evaluated. RESULTS: Of the 108 patients included, 92 (85%) presented with clinically uninvolved nodes. For clinically node-negative patients, the sentinel lymph node biopsy rate increased from 18/43 (42%) before 2008 to 38/49 (78%) subsequently and the use of inguinal nodal RT decreased from 33/35 (94%) before 2003 to 1/57 (2%) subsequently. All clinically node-positive patients treated before 2003 received inguinal nodal RT, whereas no node-positive patient treated subsequently received this treatment. Patients treated before 2016 mostly received biochemotherapy, and those treated since 2017 mostly received immune checkpoint inhibitors. With median follow-up of 32 months, 77 patients (71%) recurred. Three-year actuarial outcomes were 84% local control, 64% nodal control, 38% distant metastasis-free survival, 30% disease-free survival, and 51% melanoma-specific survival. Ostomy-free survival at last follow-up was 95%. Factors contributing to outcome were identified. Outcomes for patients treated in the contemporary era (2017+) were not significantly better than those treated earlier. CONCLUSIONS: Sphincter-sparing surgery followed by adjuvant RT results in excellent local control and ostomy-free survival for locally resectable anorectal melanoma. Overall oncologic outcomes continue to be poor, reinforcing the need to identify more effective therapies.

This case report discusses an unusual presentation of a voluntarily produced neck mass, caused by the rare case of lung herniation. Lung herniation is associated with increased intrathoracic pressure that can be caused by chronic chough, straining and continuous positive airway pressure ventilation. An association with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome 1 also exists. We present a case of lung herniation that was multifactorial in nature and was identified at a head and neck clinic. The female patient presented with a voluntarily expandable anterior neck mass on Valsalva manoeuvre. Computed tomography imaging with and without Valsalva manoeuvre demonstrated bilateral anterior lung herniation and findings of spinal spondylosis.

BACKGROUND: Management of patients with sentinel lymph node (SLN)-positive melanoma has changed dramatically over the last few years such that completion lymph node dissection (CLND) has become uncommon, and many patients receive adjuvant immunotherapy or targeted therapy. This study seeks to characterize patterns and predictors of early recurrence in this setting. PATIENTS AND METHODS: All patients with primary cutaneous melanoma undergoing sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) between 3/2016 and 12/2019 were identified. The subset with a positive SLN who did not undergo CLND were examined for further analysis of outcomes and predictors of recurrence. RESULTS: Overall, 215 patients with SLN-positive melanoma who did not have CLND were identified. Adjuvant systemic therapy was administered to 102 (47%), with 93% of this subset receiving immunotherapy (n = 95). Median follow-up from SLNB was 20 months (IQR 12-28.5 months), and 57 patients (27%) recurred during this time. The SLN basin was the most common site of recurrence (n = 38, 67% of recurrence), with isolated nodal recurrence being the most common first site of recurrent disease (n = 22, 39% of recurrence). On multivariable analysis, lymphovascular invasion (LVI) of the primary tumor, two or more involved nodes, and > 1 mm nodal deposit were independently associated with higher rates of nodal relapse. CONCLUSIONS: Nodal recurrence is a primary driver of early disease relapse for patients with SLN-positive melanoma who do not undergo CLND in the era of effective adjuvant systemic therapy. LVI, ≥ 2 nodes, or > 1 mm nodal disease identifies patients at particularly high risk of nodal relapse.

There are various options to restore phonation after laryngectomy; one option involves using tracheo-oesophageal voice by placing a speaking valve through the tracheo-oesophageal wall. Some patients struggle to obtain good fixation of an adhesive base plate to the skin; this can result in air leakage and poor voice. We describe a technique using a custom-made prosthesis to provide a better base plate for fixation of the heat and moisture exchange cassette. This technique involves making an impression of the anterior neck around the laryngectomy stoma to create an anatomically fitted prosthesis, which accurately fills the void around the stoma. The custom-made prosthesis provides a more individualised fit compared to a standard base plate, helping improve vocalisation and communication.

The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the role and application of laparoscopy in the management of acute appendicitis and its complications. The study was conducted between January 2011 to February 2019 in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and some private hospitals of Dhaka, Bangladesh. A total of 641 patients who presented with acute appendicitis and its complications were treated by laparoscopic method. Around 70% (449) patients had classical presentation, 20% (128) were atypical and 10% (64) were recurrent or chronic presentation. Maximum (527, 82%) came with acute appendicitis. Eighty eight (13.72%) patients had burst (perforated) appendicitis, 12(1.87%) patients had appendicular abscess, 11(1.71%) showed early appendicular lump, 2(0.4%) had stump appendicitis and 1(0.2%) had previous laparoscopic clip control of stump. Energy source was unipolar diathermy. Intracorporeal knotting, endoloop and haemoclip were used for haemostosis and ligation of appendicular stump. Mean duration of surgery was 20minutes and mean hospital stay was 36 hours. Histopathological patterns were acute appendicitis (554, 86.42%), gangrenous appendicitis (58, 9.04%), catarrhal (13, 2.02%), chronic appendicitis (10, 1.56%) lymphoid hyperplasia (6, 0.93%) and carcinoid tumor (1, 0.15%), among the complications (25) were single or multiple port infections, port TB, paralytic ileus and diarrhea. Conversion was 1(0.15%) for controlling haemorrhage of burst appendicitis. The rest of the patients recovered quickly and uneventfully. In conclusion, it can be stated that laparoscopic appendicectomy is safe, convenient and achievable and can become the gold standard of management of acute appendicitis and its complications.

BACKGROUND: Maintenance of sinus rhythm is challenging in patients with longstanding persistent atrial fibrillation (PeAF). Minimally invasive surgical AF ablation may improve outcomes when combined with catheter ablation (the 'convergent' procedure). This study evaluates the safety and efficacy of the convergent procedure versus catheter ablation alone in longstanding PeAF. METHODS: 43 consecutive patients with longstanding PeAF underwent subxiphoid endoscopic ablation of the posterior left atrium followed by catheter ablation from 2013 to 2018. The primary outcome was AF-free survival at 12â¯months; secondary outcomes included change in EHRA class, echocardiographic data, procedural complications, freedom from anti-arrhythmic drugs (AADs), and long term arrhythmia-free survival. Outcomes were compared with a matched group of 43 patients who underwent catheter ablation alone. Both groups underwent multiple catheter ablations as required. Baseline characteristics were similar between groups. RESULTS: After 12â¯months, the convergent procedure was associated with increased AF-free survival on AADs (60.5% versus 25.6%, pâ¯=â¯.002) and off AADs (37.2% versus 13.9%, pâ¯=â¯.025), versus catheter ablation. Allowing for multiple procedures, after 30.5⯱â¯13.3â¯months' follow-up the convergent procedure was associated with increased arrhythmia-free survival on AADs (58.1% versus 30.2%, pâ¯=â¯.016) and off AADs (32.5% versus 11.6%, pâ¯=â¯.036) versus catheter ablation. There were more complications in the convergent procedure group (11.6% versus 2.3%, pâ¯=â¯.2). Multivariate analysis identified only the convergent procedure (OR 3.06 (1.23-7.6), pâ¯=â¯.017) as predictive of arrhythmia-free survival long term. CONCLUSIONS: In longstanding PeAF, the convergent procedure is associated with improved arrhythmia-free survival versus catheter ablation alone. Complication rates are significant but have been shown to depreciate with experience.

Insulinoma is a rare variety of endocrine neoplasm and is usually benign, solitary, and small in size. The hallmark of this disorder is high endogenous insulin secretion resulting in development of symptoms of hypoglycemia. Insulinomas account for 60% of islet cell tumors (ICT) of the pancreas. Ninety percent (90%) of the insulinomas measure less than 2cm. Early localization of the disease is essential to prevent lethal hypoglycemia. Here we report a case of insulinoma in a 28 year old female who subsequently underwent distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy on February 2017 in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

BACKGROUND: Pembrolizumab demonstrated robust antitumor activity and safety in the phase Ib KEYNOTE-001 study (NCT01295827) of advanced melanoma. Five-year outcomes in all patients and treatment-naive patients are reported herein. Patients whose disease progressed following initial response and who received a second course of pembrolizumab were also analyzed. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients aged ≥18 years with previously treated or treatment-naive advanced/metastatic melanoma received pembrolizumab 2 mg/kg every 3 weeks, 10 mg/kg every 3 weeks, or 10 mg/kg every 2 weeks until disease progression, intolerable toxicity, or patient/investigator decision to withdraw. Kaplan-Meier estimates of overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were calculated. Objective response rate and PFS were based on immune-related response criteria by investigator assessment (data cut-off, September 1, 2017). RESULTS: KEYNOTE-001 enrolled 655 patients with melanoma; median follow-up was 55 months. Estimated 5-year OS was 34% in all patients and 41% in treatment-naive patients; median OS was 23.8 months (95% CI, 20.2-30.4) and 38.6 months (95% CI, 27.2-not reached), respectively. Estimated 5-year PFS rates were 21% in all patients and 29% in treatment-naive patients; median PFS was 8.3 months (95% CI, 5.8-11.1) and 16.9 months (95% CI, 9.3-35.5), respectively. Median response duration was not reached; 73% of all responses and 82% of treatment-naive responses were ongoing at data cut-off; the longest response was ongoing at 66 months. Four patients [all with prior response of complete response (CR)] whose disease progressed during observation subsequently received second-course pembrolizumab. One patient each achieved CR and partial response (after data cut-off). Treatment-related AEs (TRAEs) occurred in 86% of patients and resulted in study discontinuation in 7.8%; 17% experienced grade 3/4 TRAE. CONCLUSIONS: This 5-year analysis of KEYNOTE-001 represents the longest follow-up for pembrolizumab to date and confirms the durable antitumor activity and tolerability of pembrolizumab in advanced melanoma. PURPOSE: Audit has played a key role in monitoring and improving clinical practice. However, audit often fails to drive change as summative institutional data alone may be insufficient to do so. We hypothesised that the practice of attributed audit, wherein each individual's procedural performance is presented will have a greater impact on clinical practice. This hypothesis was tested in an observational study evaluating improvement in fluoroscopy times for AF ablation. METHODS: Retrospective analyses of fluoroscopy times in AF ablations at the Barts Heart Centre (BHC) from 2012-2017. Fluoroscopy times were compared pre- and post- the introduction of attributed audit in 2012 at St Bartholomew's Hospital (SBH). In order to test the hypothesis, this concept was introduced to a second group of experienced operators from the Heart Hospital (HH) as part of a merger of the two institutions in 2015 and change in fluoroscopy times recorded. RESULTS: A significant drop in fluoroscopy times (33.3 ± 9.14 to 8.95 ± 2.50, p < 0.0001) from 2012-2014 was noted after the introduction of attributed audit. At the time of merger, a significant difference in fluoroscopy times between operators from the two centres was seen in 2015. Each operator's procedural performance was shared openly at the audit meeting. Subsequent audits showed a steady decrease in fluoroscopy times for each operator with the fluoroscopy time (min, mean±SD) decreasing from 13.29 ± 7.3 in 2015 to 8.84 ± 4.8 (p < 0.0001) in 2017 across the entire group. CONCLUSIONS: Systematic improvement in fluoroscopy times for AF ablation procedures was noted byevaluating individual operators' performance. Attributing data to physicians in attributed audit can promptsignificant improvement and hence should be adopted in clinical practice.

Bangladesh is grappling with the largest mass poisoning of a population in the world due to contamination of drinking water with naturally occurring inorganic arsenic. It is estimated that 75 million people of 59 (out of 64) districts are at risk of drinking contaminated water with arsenic above 50µg/L. Long term exposure to arsenic causes cancers, including skin, lung, and bladder. This is a randomized prospective study to see the prevalence of skin cancer from arsenic affected area of Bangladesh, as well as their variation by geographical area, age, gender, location on the body, and socioeconomic conditions, in outpatient department of plastic surgery unit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). A total of 960 patients with skin cancers comprised of 528 males and 432 females were selected for the study from January 2004 to December 2015. In this 12-year study, we found squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, and Merkel cell carcinoma to be associated with the ingestion of arsenic contaminated ground water. This is a reflection of a small part of the total national scenario of devastating result of arsenic mediated cancer in terms of skin malignancy. This study will help the future researchers who are contemplating to work on arsenic induced health problem.

The purpose of this study was to assess the immediate and short term outcome of single bolus dose of eptifibatide in elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We enrolled 146 patients who underwent elective PCI from May 2013 to May 2014 in University Cardiac Centre, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Among 146 patients, seventy four patients received single bolus dose of eptifibatide (10 mg intra coronary single bolus dose) just after crossing the lesion were selected as case. The other 72 patients, who did not receive eptifibatide, were selected as control. All patients of both the groups were treated with aspirin, clopidogrel before and after the procedure and all received a single bolus dose of Clopidogrel (300mg) before the procedure. All patient received weight adjusted doses of heparin during and after the procedure. The outcome measures were 24-hours and 30-day morbidity (complications or adverse events) and mortality. The patients of eptifibatide group experienced significantly lower incidence of QMI lesions and complete absence of NQMI lesion in 24 hours of PCI as compared to 5.6% and 6.9% of the lesions respectively in their control counterparts (p=0.027 and p=0.025 respectively). However, the incidence of bleeding and target vessel revascularization (TVR) were no different between the groups (p=0.255 and p=0.117). There was no incidence of TVR at all in the eptifibatide group as opposed to 5.6% in the control group in 30 days following stenting (p=0.017). Single bolus dose of eptifibatite reduces the Major adverse cardiac events as immediate and short term outcome in elective percutaneous coronary intervention.
