Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an important role in regulating gene expression. Changes in their expression have been associated with many types of cancer, including thyroid cancer. This study aimed to investigate how changes in the expression of potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily Q member 1 opposite strand/antisense transcript 1 (KCNQ1OT1) and HAGLR opposite strand lncRNA (HAGLROS) lncRNAs correlate with the development and clinicopathological characteristics of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to investigate the expression of lncRNAs in both tumor and adjacent normal thyroid tissue samples of the patients. Expressions of KCNQ1OT1 and HAGLROS were upregulated in the patients tumor samples compared to the adjacent normal thyroid samples. KCNQ1OT1 expression was linked to microcarcinoma and gender, while HAGLROS expression was linked to microcarcinoma and tumor size. When only microcarcinoma samples were evaluated, KCNQ1OT1 expression was higher in tumor tissues compared to normal tissues; however, no significant difference was observed in HAGLROS expression. Our data suggests that high expressions of KCNQ1OT1 and HAGLROS might contribute to the development of PTC and disease progression, and both lncRNAs may be potential therapeutic targets in PTC patients.

Long non­coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are molecules that are >200 base pairs long and do not encode a protein. However, they perform important roles in regulating gene expression. Recent studies have revealed that the changes in the expressions of lncRNAs serve a role in the development and metastases of a number of types of cancer. A number of studies have been published on the association of SOX2 overlapping transcript (SOX2OT), differentiation antagonizing non­protein coding RNA (DANCR) and tissue differentiation­induced non­coding RNA (TINCR) expression with various types of cancer. However, researchers have not yet studied their roles in papillary thyroid cancer or at least, those roles are not clarified. The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression and clinical significance of SOX2OT, DANCR and TINCR in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). A total of 102 patients with PTC were included in the present study. Reverse transcription­quantitative PCR method was used to determine the relative gene expression levels of lncRNAs and then the relationship between expressions of lncRNAs and clinical characteristics of the subjects was analyzed in detail. Expression levels of SOX2OT (P=0.016) and DANCR (P=0.017) increased in the tumor samples in contrast to the normal tissues. No significant difference was observed in the expression level of TINCR (P=0.298). In addition, SOX2OT expression was associated with micro carcinoma (P<0.001), tumor size (P=0.010) and primary tumor (P=0.006), while DANCR expression was associated with age (P=0.030) and micro carcinoma (P=0.004). The findings of the present study indicated that DANCR may contribute to the development of PTC while SOX2OT may contribute to both the development and progression of PTC.

We aimed to investigate whether resveratrol (RSV) could sensitize human triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells to FL118-induced cell death, epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), invasion, and migration. The effects of sequential administration of RSV and FL118 on MDA-MB-436 and MDA-MB-468 cells were evaluated in terms of cell viability, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, cell cycle distribution, active caspase-3/7 levels, migration and invasion. Furthermore, mRNA and protein levels of EMT associated genes and proteins were also evaluated. Sequential administration of RSV and FL118 inhibited the cell viability in both TNBC cell lines. Meanwhile sequential administration of RSV and FL118 also dramatically reduced the migratory and invasive capabilities, it also reversed the EMT process in both TNBC cells. Moreover, sequential administration of RSV and FL118 led to a significant increase of apoptotic cells, as well as active Caspase-3/7 levels. Sequential administration of RSV and FL118 caused TNBC cells accumulating in the G1 phase, and markedly suppressed the mRNA and protein levels of N-cadherin, ß-catenin, Vimentin, Snail, and Slug, and also significantly downregulated mRNA levels of Fibronectin, Twist1, Twist2, Zeb1, and Zeb2 genes, while enhanced the mRNA and protein levels of E-cadherin genes. RSV sensitized TNBC cells to FL118 via facilitating apoptosis, migration, invasion, and EMT and enhancing intracellular entrapment of FL118. Thus, our results suggest that since RSV enhanced the in vitro anticancer activity of FL118 in BC, it may be a potential therapeutic agent in advanced BC.

CONTEXT: Thyroid cancers (TCs) are the most common endocrine malignancies. There were two problems with the current cancer chemotherapy: the ineffectiveness of treatment due to resistance to cancer cell, and the toxic effect on normal cells. AIMS: This study was aimed to determine the effects of thymoquinone (TQ) and genistein (Gen) phytotherapeutics on telomerase activity, angiogenesis, and apoptosis in follicular and anaplastic thyroid cancer cells (TCCs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cell viability, caspase-3 (CASP-3) activity, and messenger RNA (mRNA) expression levels of human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kB), cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1 (p21), and vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) genes were analyzed. RESULTS: It was found that TQ and Gen treatment on TCCs caused a statistically significant decrease of cell viability, and mRNA expression levels of hTERT, VEGF-A, and NF-kB genes, but a statistically significant increase of PTEN and p21 mRNA expression levels. In addition, TQ and Gen treatment also caused a statistically significant increase active CASP-3 protein level in TCCs. Moreover, our results demonstrated that, when compared with follicular TCCs, anaplastic TCCs were more sensitive to the treatment of TQ and Gen. CONCLUSIONS: Based on these results, two agents can be good options as potential phytochemotherapeutics against TCCs.

CONTEXT: Cancer cells exert differential responses to chemotherapeutics and inhibitors. To the best of our knowledge, a few or no research has been performed until now to determine the effect of EF-24 and RAD001 on MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells with regard to mRNA expression of apoptotic and anti-apoptotic genes. AIMS: In this study, we aimed to investigate the mRNA expression levels of apoptotic (caspase 2 [CASP2], CASP8, and CASP9) and anti-apoptotic (B-cell lymphoma 2 [BCL2] and BCL2-like protein 1 [BCL2L1]) genes after exposure to paclitaxel, EF-24, and RAD001 in MDA-MB-231 cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS: After treatment, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay was used to measure cell viability. mRNA expressions were analyzed using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Decrease in cell viability ratios was seen in a dose-dependent manner for all chemicals. MDA-MB-231 cells responded slightly different to paclitaxel, EF-24, and RAD001 at the transcriptional level of apoptotic and anti-apoptotic genes. CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that response of these cells to paclitaxel, EF-24, and RAD001 was found different at the transcriptional level of apoptotic and antiapoptotic genes. Therefore, understanding transcriptional changes after these drug exposure may give us a change to figure out more realistic results of the apoptotic pathway inhibition.

The activation of the phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase/v-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homolog (Akt) and mitogen activated protein kinase kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) pathways are implicated in the majority of cancers. Selective inhibition of Akt and ERK represents a potential approach for cancer therapy. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the apoptotic and anti-proliferative effects of the novel and selective Akt inhibitor 4-amino-5,8-dihydro-5-oxo-8-ß-D-ribofuranosyl-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-6-carboxamide (API-1) and selective ERK1/2 inhibitor FR180204 (FR) alone and in combination on colorectal cancer (CRC) cells (DLD-1 and LoVo). In addition, the effects of API-1 and FR on Akt and ERK signaling pathways were also investigated. The effects of the agents on DLD-1 and LoVo cells were evaluated in terms of cell viability, cytotoxicity, DNA synthesis rate, DNA fragmentation and caspase-3 activity levels. In addition, quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis were performed to examine relevant mRNA and protein levels. The present study observed that the combination of FR with API-1 resulted in significant apoptosis and cytotoxicity compared with any single agent alone in a time-dependent manner in these cells. Also, treatment with FR and API-1 in combination decreased the expression levels of B-cell lymphoma-2 (BCL2), Bcl-2-like1, cyclin D1 and cMYC, and increased the expression levels of BCL2-associated X protein and BCL2 antagonist/killer via phosphorylated Akt and phosphorylated ERK1/2 downregulation. The combination of Akt and ERK1/2 inhibitors resulted in enhanced apoptotic and anti-proliferative effects against CRC cells. The present study hypothesizes that the combination of FR and API-1 in CRC cells may contribute toward potential anti-carcinogenic effects. Additional analyses using other cancer cell lines and animal models are required to confirm these findings in vitro and in vivo.

Histone deacetylases (HDACs) play a major role in the regulation of chromatin structure and gene expression by changing acetylation status of histone and non-histone proteins. MS-275 (entinostat, MS) is a well-known benzamide-based HDACI and Salermide (SAL), a reverse amide compound HDACI, have antiproliferative effects on several human cancer cells. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of HDACIs (MS and SAL) alone and/or combined use with EF24 (EF), a novel synthetic curcumin analog, on human pancreatic cancer cell line (BxPC-3). In vitro, BxPC-3 cells were exposed to varying concentrations of MS, SAL with or without EF, and their effects on cell viability, acetylated Histone H3 and H4 levels, cytotoxicity, and cleaved caspase 3 levels, and cell cycle distribution were measured. The viability of BxPC-3 cells decreased significantly after treatment with EF, MS and SAL treatments. MS and SAL treatment increased the acetylation of histone H3 and H4 in a dose dependent manner. MS and SAL alone or combined with EF were increased the number of cells in G1 phase. In addition, treatment with agents significantly decreased the ratio of cell in G2/M phase. There were significant dose-dependent increases at cleaved Caspase 3 levels after MS treatment but not after SAL treatment. Our results showed that HDAC inhibitors (MS and SAL), when combined with EF, may effectively reduce pancreatic cancer cell (BxPC-3) progression and stop the cell cycle at G1 phase. Further molecular analyses are needed to understand the fundamental molecular consequences of HDAC inhibition in pancreas cancer cells.

AIM OF THE STUDY: Cervical cancer is the second most common malignancy in women worldwide. Everolimus displays direct effects on growth and proliferation of cancer cells via inhibition of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) protein, which is known to be associated with drug resistance. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of everolimus, gemcitabine, and paclitaxel in terms of cell viability and mRNA expression levels of GRP78, CCND1, CASP2, and BCL2 genes. MATERIAL AND METHODS: HeLa cells were treated with different doses of everolimus, gemcitabine, and paclitaxel. Cell viability was assessed using MTT assay, and obtained dose response curves were used for the calculations of inhibitory concentration (IC) values. At the end of the treatment times with selected doses, RNA isolation and cDNA synthesis were performed. Finally, GRP78, CCND1, CASP2, and BCL2 genes mRNA expression levels were analysed using quantitative PCR. RESULTS: The IC50 value of everolimus was 0.9 µM for 24-hour treatment. Moreover, the IC50 value of gemcitabine and paclitaxel was found to be around 18.1 µM and 7.08 µM, respectively. Everolimus, gemcitabine, and paclitaxel treatments alone did not change the GRP78, CCND1, BCL2 and CASP2 mRNA expression levels significantly. However, combined treatment of everolimus and paclitaxel significantly reduced BCL2 and CCND1 mRNA expression (p < 0.05). In contrast, this combination did not change GRP78 and CASP2 mRNA expression levels (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Down-regulation of CCND1 and BCL2 expression may be an important mechanism by which everolimus increases the therapeutic window of paclitaxel in cervical cancers.

The epigenetic suppression of Wnt antagonists (sFRPs, DKKs, and WIF-1) causes the activation of both ß-catenin and target genes, which play an important role in cell proliferation, metastasis, and angiogenesis. This study is aimed to investigate, on transcriptional and protein levels, the synergic effects of unaccompanied and/or combined use of 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine (DAC, 5-aza-dC), trichostatin A (TSA), and gemcitabine+cisplatin chemotherapeutic agents on the apoptotic pathway of human bladder cancer cell line T24. The anti-tumor effects of gemcitabine (0-500 nM), cisplatin (0-10 µM), DAC (10 µM), and TSA (300 nM) alone and/or together on T24 cells were determined by WST-1. ELISA method was used to analyze the effects of unaccompanied and combined use of gemcitabine+cisplatin, DAC, and TSA on cell proliferation and determine the cytotoxic and apoptotic dosages at the level of H3 histone acetylation. Methylation-specific PCR was used to evaluate methylation profiles of Wnt antagonist gene (WIF-1). In the case of unaccompanied and/or combined use of specified drugs, the variations in the expression levels of CTNNB1, GSK3ß, c-MYC, CCND1, CASP-3, CASP-8, CASP-9, BCL2L1, and WIF-1 genes were determined by quantitative real-time PCR. Our results indicate that through inhibition of DNA methylation, expression of ß-catenin and Wnt antagonist re-activation and expressions of canonical Wnt/ß-catenin pathway target genes, c-myc and cyclin D1 (CCND1), have decreased. In addition, DAC, TSA, and gemcitabine+cisplatin combination caused an increase in GSK3ß mRNA levels, which in turn significantly decreased CCND1 mRNA levels. Moreover, BCL2L1, an anti-apoptotic gene, was downregulated significantly. Meanwhile, both CASP-3 mRNA and active caspase-3 protein levels increased with respect to control (p<0.01). The results revealed that use of quadruplicate gemcitabine+cisplatin+DAC+TSA combination led to a reduced inhibition of canonical Wnt/ß-catenin pathway and reduced cell proliferation. Our findings may offer a new approach to consider in the treatment of bladder cancer.

RESUMO

Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva is an extremely rare disease that is usually seen in the form of sporadic cases and seems to be localized outside of the thoracic cavity. Inflammation and trauma are accused in the etiology, and too many diagnostic mistakes are done. The disease, which may present genetic transmission and has not a definitive treatment, was seen as an intrathoracic mass for the first time. Intrathoracic mass was excised, and the cure was achieved in our patient, who was defined to be sporadic as a result of familial screening.

The aim of this study was to analyze the expression of microfibril-associated protein 2 (MFAP2), microfibril-associated protein 5 (MFAP5) and nuclear localized factor 2 (NLF2) genes in patients with repeated IVF failure and compare with fertile population. Total RNA was isolated from 38 patients (repeated implantation failure, group 1, n=22; fertile patients, group 2, n=16). mRNA expression levels were measured quantitatively using real-time polymerase chain reaction. Our results showed that mRNA expression of NLF2 significantly decreased in the infertility group as compared to control group (P=0.023). In addition a marked decrease was observed in the expression of MFAP2 in women with repeated implantation failure. In conclusion, NLF2 gene expression levels and differences in MFAP2 and MFAP5 gene expressions (albeit being insignificant) between infertile group and control group draw attention to a genetic basis under implantation failure.

Changes in vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9, and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) mRNA expression profiles and oxidative stress in the eye tissue microenviroment may have important roles in ocular neovascularization and permeability in proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The present study investigated the effects of resveratrol (RSV) treatment on the mRNA expression profile of VEGF, ACE, MMP-9, and eNOS, which are associated with vascular neovascularization, and glutathione, protein carbonyl, and nitrite-nitrate levels, which are markers of oxidative stress in eyes of diabetic rats. Twenty-four Wistar albino male rats were divided into four groups. After diabetes induction with streptozotocin (10 mg/kg/day) RSV was administered to the RSV and diabetes mellitus (DM) + RSV groups for 4 weeks. The mRNA levels were measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction assay, and biochemical estimations were determined with spectrophotometric assays in eye homogenates. The mRNA expression levels of VEGF, ACE, and MMP-9 were increased in the DM group compared with the control group, and RSV treatment decreased their mRNA levels. Expression of eNOS mRNA was increased in the RSV and DM groups and decreased in the DM + RSV group. Nitrite-nitrate levels and protein carbonyl content were increased and glutathione levels were decreased in the DM group compared with controls. Consequently, these data suggest that RSV suppressed the expression of eNOS, which is actively involved in the inflammation and healing process in chronic diabetes. Although oxidative stress was increased in eye tissue from diabetic rats, mRNA levels of VEGF, MMP-9, and ACE genes associated with vascular remodeling did not change in diabetic eyes.

We explored the cytotoxic and apoptotic effects of various doses of apigenin administered alone and together with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-a chemotherapeutic agent with high cytotoxicity-for different incubation periods, on morphologic, DNA, RNA (messenger RNA [mRNA]), and protein levels on the p53 mutant HT29 human colon adenocarcinoma cell line. Treatment with apigenin alone for a 72-hour incubation at 90-µM dose resulted in an apoptotic percentage of 24.92% (P=.001). A higher percentage (29.13%) was observed after treatment with the same dose of apigenin plus 5-FU for the same incubation period (P=.001). These results were confirmed as mRNA and protein expression levels of caspase-3 increased 2.567-fold and mRNA expression levels of caspase-8 increased 3.689-fold compared with the control group. On the other hand, mRNA expression levels of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and cyclin D1 (CCND1) decreased by 0.423-fold and 0.231-fold, respectively. To our knowledge this is the first study showing that treatment with apigenin alone results in cell cycle arrest through activation of caspase cascade and stimulation of apoptosis in HT29 cells. It also shows that use of apigenin plus 5-FU further increases this effect. This study draws attention to the probable clinical effectiveness of apigenin plus a chemotherapeutic agent with high cytotoxicity. It also highlights the induction of desirable apoptotic effects by targeting the caspase cascade pathway through administration of reduced doses for shorter incubation periods.

The matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are key enzymes involved in the breakdown of the extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, including tissue remodeling, and disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. The promoter polymorphism in the MMP2 gene may be responsible for multiple diseases related to extracellular matrix degradation. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the relationship between genotypes or haplotypes of -1575 G/A, -1306 C/T, -790 T/G, and -735 C/T promoter polymorphisms and coronary artery disease (CAD) with or without myocardial infarction (MI) history. This study included 298 patients with angiographically confirmed CAD and 299 age matched controls. Genomic DNA was isolated from whole blood and genotyping was performed by the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. No significant associations were found between -1575 G/A, -1306 C/T, and -790 T/G polymorphisms and CAD with or without MI history. However, the frequency of the -735 TT genotype was significantly lower in the controls than in the patients with MI alone when compared with the CC genotype (p=0.021). Only the distribution of the ACGC haplotype in CAD patients exhibited a significant difference than that in controls (p<0.05). The distribution of other haplotypes did not differ between CAD patients and controls. The present investigation is the first report to detect an association between MMP2 promoter polymorphisms and CAD with or without MI history in the Turkish population. Further case-control studies in CAD development might be contributed to clarify the role of these polymorphisms.

OBJECTIVE: As genomic imprinting plays a critical role in the development of the placenta, the aim of this study was to detect whether the expression levels of the imprinted genes IGF2 and H19 in the endometrium differ between infertile and fertile women. STUDY DESIGN: Total RNA was extracted from 30 (15 unexplained infertile and 15 fertile) women's endometrial tissue. cDNA was synthesized from total RNAs of each sample. IGF2 and H19 mRNA expression levels were measured quantitatively using the Real Time PCR method. In order to determine the allelic expression of IGF2 and H19, genomic DNA was extracted from endometrial tissues. RESULTS: When compared with the control group, increased mRNA expression of IGF2 was detected (1.5-fold change, P=0.015) in the unexplained infertility group. In contrast, H19 expression was lower in the infertility group as compared to the control group (4-fold change, P<0.0001). Restriction analysis of cDNA-derived PCR product showed that all patients and controls indicated monoallelic expression of IGF2 and H19. CONCLUSION: Our results showed that altered expression of these imprinted genes might affect implantation and that their timely and appropriate activation is important for proper functioning. To understand the molecular epigenetic basis of implantation and placental development, genomic imprinted genes should be further investigated.

The aim of this study was to analyse whether some cases of unexplained infertility and implantation failure after IVF could be explained by different expression levels of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2, 9), their tissue inhibitors (TIMP-2, 3) and intercellular (ICAM-1) and vascular (VCAM-1) adhesion molecules in endothelial cells. Total RNA was extracted from the endometrial tissues of 41 women (unexplained infertile, group 1, n = 15; fertile volunteers, group 2, n = 15 and patients with implantation failure after IVF, group 3, n = 11). MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-2, TIMP-3, ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 mRNA expression levels were measured quantitatively using real-time polymerase chain reaction. Tumor growth, which employs a number of regulators, requires the formation of new blood vessels. The most important regulators are vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and angiopoietin-2 (ANGPT-2). DNA sequence variations in VEGF and ANGPT-2 genes may lead to altered productions and/or activities of these genes. In this study, we aimed to determine the polymorphic effects of the changes in the VEGF -460 C/T, VEGF 936 C/T, and ANGPT-2 exon 4 G/A, which we perceive as risk factors in the progress and metastasis of cancer, on the gynecologic cancer patients in the Turkish population. Forty-seven ovarian, 32 cervical, and 21 endometrial cancer patients and 106 healthy controls were studied. The genomic DNA was extracted from the whole blood by using DNA extraction techniques. DNA samples were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism. There were no significant differences between any of the three types of gynecologic cancer patients and controls in terms of the distribution of VEGF -460, VEGF 936, and ANGPT-2 genotypes and alleles (p > 0.05). Odds ratios (ORs) were calculated by logistic regression analysis in comparison with the most common homozygote genotype observed in the studied population. No evidence of a relationship that would constitute a risk factor (p > 0.05) was found between genotype and allele frequencies of patients and controls for VEGF -460, VEGF 936, and ANGPT-2 genes. A multivariable logistic regression analysis with the involvement of covariant factors, such as the history of gynecologic cancer and/or other cancer types in the family, stages of tumor, smoking habits, and existence of other diseases, did not change the results. The present study is the first case-control study of VEGF and ANGPT-2 polymorphisms in relation to ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancers.

BACKGROUND: DNA sequence variations in HIF-1 alpha gene might yield changes both in the production outcomes and in the activities of the gene. Overexpression of the HIF-1 alpha subunit, resulting from intratumoral hypoxia and genetic alterations, has been demonstrated in common human cancers and is correlated with tumor angiogenesis and patient mortality. In this study, we aimed to determine how the three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs, C1772T and G1790A exon 12, C111A exon 2) in the HIF-1 alpha gene coding regions affect the ovarian, cervical and endometrial cancer patients in the Turkish population. A study on this relationship has not been conducted to date. METHOD: 102 gynecologic cancer patients and 107 healthy controls were studied. Genotypes of the three polymorphisms were analyzed by PCR-RFLP. RESULTS: There was no significant difference between ovarian cancer patients and controls in terms of the distribution of C1772T genotypes and alleles (P>0.05). However, there was a highly significant increase in the frequency of both CT 1772 and TT 1772 genotypes in patients with cervical and endometrial cancers compared with healthy controls. In fact, 1772T allele-carriers (CT+TT genotypes) showed an association with the risk of cervical and endometrial cancers compared to the wild type (OR=3.84, 95% CI: 1.65-8.93; OR=7.41, 95% CI: 2.33-23.59, respectively). C1772T polymorphism was not associated with family history concerning gynecologic and/or other cancer types, stages (I-IV) and grades of tumor, smoking habits and existence of other diseases that generate a hypoxic microenvironment even after multivariable logistic regression analysis. As for HIF-1 alpha G1790A genotypes, the frequencies of G alleles were 98% in ovarian patients and 100% in the control group. We found no significant difference in the genotype distribution and allele frequencies between the ovarian patients and healthy control subjects. There were no GA and AA genotypes among the cervical and endometrial cancer patients. As for HIF-1 alpha C111A polymorphism, we did not find CA and AA variants of the gene in controls or in any of the three types of patients. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that the C1772T polymorphism of the HIF-1 alpha may be associated with cervical and endometrial cancers.
