BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks third in both the incidence and mortality rates among male and female cancers, and it is the leading digestive system cancer. Due to the inter- and intratumor heterogeneity of cancer, the TNM system is insufficient for predicting prognosis, necessitating the use of molecular biomarkers for prognostic prediction. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) have been associated with CRC survival rates. This study focused on the investigation of the role and potential value of TLRs in CRC genotyping to aid in immunotherapy for CRC patients. METHODS: Differential gene expression analysis was performed on CRC transcriptomic data from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. TLRs were referred from the literature, and their intersection with differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in CRC yielded TLR-DEGs. The expression patterns of TLR-DEGs were predicted using the STRING website, and copy number variations of TLR-DEGs were analyzed. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses were conducted on TLR-DEGs. ConsensusClusterPlus R package was used for clustering CRC patients, and ESTIMATE and GSEAbase were employed to analyze immune characteristics of different subtypes. Immune phenotyping scores and tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion scores were evaluated. DEGs of different subtypes were analyzed, followed by GO and KEGG enrichment analyses, the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis, and further selection of hub genes. The sensitivity of drugs was assessed using the identified hub genes. RESULTS: We identified 37 TLR-DEGs, and the PPI analysis revealed their coexpression, although they were distributed on different chromosomes. Enrichment analyses indicated that the 37 TLR-DEGs were linked to cancer cell immune response. Based on these TLR-DEGs, CRC patients were classified into three subtypes. Cluster2 exhibited lower survival rates and higher immune infiltration levels and predicted poorer response to immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy. The intersection of DEGs from cluster2 and cluster1 with DEGs from cluster2 and cluster3 yielded a set of 426 commonly shared DEGs. Enrichment analyses revealed that these shared DEGs might regulate immune cell viability. Eight common hub genes for different subtypes were further identified to predict drug-related correlations. CONCLUSION: The developed TLR genotyping was used to predict the survival status and tumor microenvironment of CRC, providing a foundation for understanding the molecular mechanisms of TLR signaling and deepening its clinical significance.

BACKGROUND: Long-term exposure to a high altitude environment with low pressure and low oxygen could cause abnormalities in the structure and function of the heart. Myocardial strain is a sensitive indicator for assessing myocardial dysfunction, monitoring myocardial strain is of great significance for the early diagnosis and treatment of high altitude heart-related diseases. This study applies cardiac magnetic resonance tissue tracking technology (CMR-TT) to evaluate the changes in left ventricular myocardial function and structure in rats in high altitude environment. METHODS: 6-week-old male rats were randomized into plateau hypoxia rats (plateau group, n = 21) as the experimental group and plain rats (plain group, n = 10) as the control group. plateau group rats were transported from Chengdu (altitude: 360 m), a city in a plateau located in southwestern China, to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (altitude: 3850 m), Yushu, China, and then fed for 12 weeks there, while plain group rats were fed in Chengdu(altitude: 360 m), China. Using 7.0 T cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) to evaluate the left ventricular ejection fraction (EF), end-diastolic volume (EDV), end-systolic volume (ESV) and stroke volume (SV), as well as myocardial strain parameters including the peak global longitudinal (GLS), radial (GRS), and circumferential strain (GCS). The rats were euthanized and a myocardial biopsy was obtained after the magnetic resonance imaging scan. RESULTS: The plateau rats showed more lower left ventricular GLS and GRS (P < 0.05) than the plain rats. However, there was no statistically significant difference in left ventricular EDV, ESV, SV, EF and GCS compared to the plain rats (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: After 12 weeks of exposure to high altitude low-pressure hypoxia environment, the left ventricular global strain was partially decreased and myocardium is damaged, while the whole heart ejection fraction was still preserved, the myocardial strain was more sensitive than the ejection fraction in monitoring cardiac function.

Lichen striatus (LS), linear psoriasis (LPs), linear cutaneous lupus erythematosus (LCLE) and linear lichen planus (LLP) often have similar clinical manifestations, which makes clinical diagnosis with the naked eye difficult; therefore, they are easily misdiagnosed. The purpose of this study was to determine whether reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is helpful in differentiating between these four linear dermatoses in children. This retrospective study included 14 patients with LS, nine with LPs, eight with LCLE and 12 with LLP. All patients were analysed using RCM, and biopsies were collected from lesions previously imaged by RCM. For LS, the dermal papillary rings were partially absent, but when present, manifested with small, homogeneously round, bright cells and occasionally highly refractive plump cellular structures, aggregated in clusters. LPs exhibited dark cyst-like structures with small, bright, round cells aggregated at the epidermal level; at the dermal-epidermal junction, homogeneously distributed, enlarged, faint dermal papillary rings and numerous enlarged low-refractive canalicular structures were observed in the superficial dermis. LCLE and LLP exhibited similar manifestations, including epidermal disarray, almost total absence of dermal papillary rings, and various sized refractive structures densely distributed in the dermis. The key distinguishing features of LCLE were the different sized structures mainly clustered around hair follicles, while LLP demonstrated dense structures with a scattered distribution. RCM may be used to distinguish between the key features of LS, LPs, LCLE and LLP in children.

Recently, immunotherapy has emerged as a promising and effective method for treating triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). However, challenges still persist. Immunogenic cell death (ICD) is considered a prospective treatment and potential combinational treatment strategy as it induces an anti-tumor immune response by presenting the antigenic epitopes of dead cells. Nevertheless, the ICD process in TNBC and its impact on disease progression and the response to immunotherapy are not well understood. In this study, we observed dysregulation of the ICD process and verified the altered expression of prognostic ICD genes in TNBC through quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis. To investigate the potential role of the ICD process in TNBC progression, we determined the ICD-dependent subtypes, and two were identified. Analysis of their distinct tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) and cancer hallmark features revealed that Cluster 1 and 2 corresponded to the immune "cold" and "hot" phenotypes, respectively. In addition, we constructed the prognostic signature ICD score of TNBC patients and demonstrated its clinical independence and generalizability. The ICD score could also serve as a potential biomarker for immune checkpoint blockade and may aid in the identification of targeted effective agents for individualized clinical strategies. INTRODUCTION: Neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE) is a rare autoimmune disease, which needs to be distinguished from eczema, congenital syphilis, and tinea corporis in newborns. Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) could be a helpful noninvasive diagnostic tool, which has been used to evaluate several inflammatory skin conditions. The aim of this study was to describe the RCM characteristics of NLE. METHODS: Eleven NLE patients were included in the study, and all patients were evaluated clinically with RCM. We also evaluated RCM images from 11 eczema patients as controls. RESULTS: Some major key diagnostic features of NLE can be observed by RCM: an enlarged honeycomb pattern (9/11, 81.8%), round-to-oval cyst-like structures were present (6/11, 54.5%), the normal ring-like structures were totally or partially obliterated (11/11, 100%) at the level of the dermo-epidermal junction, medium refractivity collagen fibers that were disorganized (10/11, 90.9%), numerous high refractivity round cells (11/11, 100%) in the dermis. CONCLUSION: RCM allows the visualization of major key diagnostic features of NLE and serves as a complementary diagnostic tool for NLE.

Mastocytosis, lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP), fixed drug eruption (FDE) and café-au-lait macules (CALM) have a similar appearance, often lead to misdiagnosis and missed diagnoses. At the outpatient clinic at Tianjin Children's Hospital in 21 patients with mastocytosis, 18 with LPP, 11 with FDE and 12 with CALM we evaluated the characteristics and distinguishing features of their dermatoses using reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM). In mastocytosis, the dermal papillary rings generally had a significantly increased bright refractive index and the superficial dermis was filled with moderate refractive flocculent material. In LPP, the dermal papillary rings were absent and numerous different-sized cellular structures were densely distributed in the superficial dermis. In FDE, the dermal papillary rings were intact with a significantly increased bright refractive index. In CALM, normal dermal papillary rings were detected with a uniformly slightly increased refractive index and no obvious abnormality in the superficial dermis. RCM allows for real-time visualization of the major key diagnostic and distinguishing features of four greyish-brown dermatoses in children.

RESUMO

Carbon dots (CDs) are nanomaterials with excellent properties, including good biocompatibility, small size, ideal photoluminescence and surface modification, and are becoming one of the most attractive nanomaterials for the imaging, detection and treatment of tumors. Based on these advantages, CDs can be combined other materials to obtain composite particles with improved, even new, performance, mainly in photothermal and photodynamic therapies. This paper reviews the research progress of CDs and their composites in targeted tumor imaging, detection, diagnosis, drug delivery and tumor killing. It also discusses and proposes the challenges and perspectives of their future applications in these fields. This review provides ideas for future applications of novel CD-based materials in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

BACKGROUND: Alopecia areata (AA), trichotillomania (TM), nevus sebaceous (NS), and linear scleroderma en coup de sabre (LSCS) can all present with a patch of linear alopecia, making diagnosis challenging. The purpose of this study was to combine reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) and dermoscopy in the diagnosis of these lesions in children. METHODS: A total of 36 patients with linear alopecia were enrolled, of whom 14 had AA, seven had TM, nine had NS, and six had LSCS. We evaluated the characteristics and distinguishing features of the four conditions using RCM and dermoscopy. RESULTS: The key to differential diagnosis was the dermal Hair follicle density in the dermis was decreased in AA, and the size and density of the follicular openings were normal in TM. In NS, the major features were petal-like and frogspawn-like structures. In LSCS, dermal papillary rings, sebaceous glands, and follicles were partially or completely missing, and abundant fibrous material was distributed in the dermis. Dermoscopy revealed alopecia, and all four conditions resulted in decreased hair density. AA patients exhibited yellow dots, black dots, and exclamation mark hairs. TM patients presented with irregularly broken hairs and blood spots. Both NS and LSCS patients exhibited an absence of follicular openings; NS patients demonstrated whitish and yellowish round structures, while an atrophic area with white patches, linear vessels, and no yellow or black dots was observed in LSCS patients CONCLUSION: RCM combined with dermoscopy can provide additional information on disease states and differentiate between AA, TM, NS, and LSCS.

Background: Olaparib has been proven for the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). This meta-analysis aims to comprehensively evaluate the efficacy and safety of the combination of olaparib and abiraterone in patients with mCRPC. Methods: The literature in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library up until April 27, 2023, was systematically searched. In the studies included in this meta-analysis, olaparib combined with abiraterone was compared with abiraterone combined with placebo. Results: Two randomized controlled trials involving a total of 938 patients were included. Analysis indicated that olaparib combined with abiraterone significantly prolonged radiographic progression-free survival (rPFS: relative risk [RR] 0.66, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.55-0.79), time to secondary progression or death (PFS2: hazard ratio [HR] 0.72, 95% CI 0.56-0.93), time to first subsequent therapy or death (TFST: HR 0.75, 95% CI 0.63-0.89), time to second subsequent therapy or death (TSST: HR 0.73, 95% CI 0.58-0.93), and confirmed prostate-specific antigen (PSA) response (RR 1.14, 95% CI 1.05-1.24). However, no statistically significant differences were found in the overall survival (OS: HR 0.87 95% CI 0.70-1.09), objective response rate (ORR: RR 0.97, 95% CI 0.70-1.33), and incidence of total adverse events (RR 1.07, 95% CI 0.94-1.22). A notable detail that the combination of olaparib and abiraterone was associated with an increased incidence of high-grade anemia (RR 7.47, 95% CI 1.36-40.88). Conclusion: Olaparib combined with abiraterone is effective for patients with mCRPC. However, combination therapy has treatment-related adverse events compared with monotherapy, and this could be improved in future treatment management. Chemosensory disorders (including smell, taste and chemesthesis) are among the established symptoms of COVID-19 infection; however, new data indicate that the changes in chemosensory sensation caused by COVID-19 may differ among populations and COVID-19 variants. To date, few studies have focused on the influence of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant on qualitative changes and quantitative reductions in chemosensory function in China. We conducted a cross-sectional study of patients with COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant, to investigate the prevalence of chemosensory disorders and chemosensory function before and during infection, using an online questionnaire. A total of 1245 patients with COVID-19 completed the survey. The prevalence rates of smell, taste, and chemesthesis disorders were 69.2%, 67.7%, and 31.4%, respectively. Our data indicate that sex, age, smoking, and COVID-19-related symptoms, such as lack of appetite, dyspnea, and fatigue, may be associated with chemosensory disorders during COVID-19. Self-rating of chemosensory function revealed that patients experienced a general decline in smell, taste, and chemesthesis function. Further longitudinal research studies are needed to generate additional data based on objective assessment and investigate the factors influencing chemosensory function in COVID-19.

Objective.Accurate dose calculations are essential prerequisites for precise radiotherapy. The integration of deep learning into dosimetry could consider computational accuracy and efficiency and has potential applicability to clinical dose calculation. The generalisation of a deep learning dose calculation method (hereinafter referred to as TERMA-Monte Carlo network, T-MC net) was evaluated in clinical practice using intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) plans for various human body regions and multiple institutions, with the Monte Carlo (MC) algorithm serving as a benchmark.Approach. Sixty IMRT plans were selected from four institutions for testing the head and neck, chest and abdomen, and pelvis regions. Using the MC results as the benchmark, the T-MC net calculation results were used to perform three-dimensional dose distribution and dose-volume histogram (DVH) comparisons of the entire body, planning target volume (PTV) and organs at risk (OARs), respectively, and calculate the mean ±95% confidence interval of gamma pass rate (GPR), percentage of agreement (PA) and dose difference ratio (DDR) of dose indices D95, D50, and D5.Main results. For the entire body, the GPRs of 3%/3 mm, 2%/2 mm, 2%/1 mm, and the PA were 99.62 ± 0.32%, 98.50 ± 1.09%, 95.60 ± 2.90% and 97.80 ± 1.12%, respectively. For the PTV, the GPRs of 3%/3 mm, 2%/2 mm, 2%/1 mm and the PA were 98.90 ± 1.00%, 95.78 ± 2.83%, 92.23 ± 4.74% and 98.93 ± 0.62%, respectively. The absolute value of average DDR was less than 1.4%.Significance. We proposed a general dose calculation framework based on deep learning, using the MC algorithm as a benchmark, performing a generalisation test for IMRT treatment plans across multiple institutions. The framework provides high computational speed while maintaining the accuracy of MC and may become an effective dose algorithm engine in treatment planning, adaptive radiotherapy, and dose verification.

Neuroinflammation is prevalent in multiple brain diseases and may also lead to dementia, cognitive impairment, and impaired spatial memory function associated with neurodegenerative diseases. A neuroprotective and antioxidant flavonoid, rutin hydrate (RH), was evaluated for the anti-neuroinflammatory activity mediated by copper sulfate (CuSO4) solution and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in zebrafish. The results showed that 100 mg/L RH significantly reduced the ratio of neutrophil mobility in caudal hematopoietic tissue (CHT) region caused by CuSO4 and the number of neutrophils co-localized with facial peripheral nerves. In the LPS model, RH co-injection significantly diminished neutrophil and macrophage migration. Therefore, RH exhibited a significant rescue effect on both models. In addition, RH treatment remarkably reduced the effects of neuroinflammation on the locomotor ability, expression levels of genes associated with behavioral disorders, and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity. Furthermore, network pharmacology techniques were employed to investigate the potential mechanisms, and the associated genes and enzyme activities were validated in order to elucidate the underlying mechanisms. Network pharmacological analysis and zebrafish model indicated that RH regulated the expressions of NF-κB pathway-related targets (Toll-like receptor 9 (tlr9), nuclear factor kappa B subunit 1 (nfkb1), RELA proto-oncogene (RelA), nitric oxide synthase 2a, inducible (nos2a), tumour necrosis factor alpha-like (tnfα), interleukin 6 (il6), interleukin 1ß (il1ß), chemokine 8 (cxcl8), and macrophage migration inhibitory factor (mif)) as well as six key factors (arachidonic acid 4 alpha-lipoxygenase (alox4a), arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase a (alox5), prion protein a (prnpa), integrin, beta 2 (itgb2), catalase (CAT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) enzymes). Through this study, a thorough understanding of the mechanism underlying the therapeutic effects of RH in neuroinflammation has been achieved, thereby establishing a solid foundation for further research on the potential therapeutic applications of RH in neuroinflammatory disorders.

Carbon-supported zinc single-atom catalysts have received considerable attention in the electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) owing to the strong reduction capacity of zinc atoms and the abundant reserves of zinc elements. The common preparation method has been limited to the high-temperature pyrolysis of nitrogen-rich organic molecules and zinc ions, which makes it difficult to further improve the ORR performance. Herein, we first prepared ZnO/PNT/rGO aerogels as precursors via a simple hydrothermal method combined with freeze-drying, in which reduced graphene oxides (rGO) and polypyrrole nanotubes (PNT) together assembled into three-dimensional frames and numerous ZnO nanoparticles were anchored in the three-dimensional skeletons. Then, ZnO/PNT/rGO aerogels were calcined at 800 °C in the argon atmosphere, in which PNT/rGO were derived carbon aerogels, ZnO nanoparticles were reduced to Zn0 by carbon, and generating zinc single atoms were captured by the surrounding nitrogen atoms or aggregated into Zn clusters/nanoparticles in the carbon substrates. The obtained products were Zn single atoms/clusters/nanoparticles embedded into PNT/rGO-derived carbon aerogels, named Zn/NC catalysts. Zn/NC catalysts display a much higher half-wave potential and a larger limiting current density than pure rGO aerogels, NC, and Zn/C catalysts, indicating the synergy of excellent electronic transportation, high mass efficiency from outstanding porosity, and several active centers. Tailoring the quantity of zinc acetate can provide the optimal ORR performance with the Eonset of 0.96 V, the E1/2 of 0.845 V, and remarkable durability. This work exploits a novel strategy of carbon thermal reduction to construct high-performance Zn-based low-dimensional ORR catalysts.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a novel ionization chamber array dosimetry system, study its dosimetry characteristics, and perform preliminary tests for plan dose verification. METHODS: The dosimetry characteristics of this new array were tested, including short-term and long-term reproducibility, dose linearity, dose rate dependence, field size dependence, and angular dependence. The open field and MLC field plans were designed for dose testing. Randomly select 30 patient treatment plans (10 intensity-modulated radiation therapy [IMRT] plans and 20 volumetric modulated arc therapy [VMAT] plans) that have undergone dose verification using Portal Dosimetry to perform verification measurement and evaluate dose verification test results. RESULTS: The dosimetry characteristics of the arrays all performed well. The gamma passing rates (3%/2 mm) were more than 96% for the combined open field and MLC field plans. The average gamma pass rates were (99.54 ± 0.58)% and (96.70 ± 3.41)% for the 10 IMRT plans and (99.32 ± 0.89)% and (94.91 ± 6.01)% for the 20 VMAT plans at the 3%/2 mm and 2%/2 mm criteria, respectively, which is similar to the Portal Dosimetry's measurement results. CONCLUSIONS: This novel ionization chamber array demonstrates good dosimetry characteristics and is suitable for clinical IMRT and VMAT plan verifications.

RESUMO

Vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis of unknown pathogenesis, characterized by porcelain-white atrophic plaques around the vulvar and anal areas in girls. With this communication, we performed the study on 16 female girls with clinically and histologically confirmed VLS, described the main identifying characteristics of the lesions in reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) and elucidated the corresponding relationship between RCM findings and histology. We recommend RCM, a noninvasive technique, as a complementary diagnostic tool for VLS.

Context: At present, hormone therapy and surgery are the main treatments for thyroid cancer, and they have a quick effect but a high recurrence rate. Also, the side effects are significant. it's extremely urgent to explore treatments that can take into account both therapeutic benefits and side effects. Objective: The study intended to explore whether Xiaoluo has an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of thyroid-cancer cells in vitro and to examine the core target and key signaling pathway of Xiaoluo in the treatment of thyroid cancer, using the thyroid-cancer cell line SW579. Design: The research team performed an in-vitro study. Setting: The study took place at the College of Pharmacy at Harbin University of Commerce in Harbin, China. Outcome Measures: The research team used a Western blot analysis to detect the expression of apoptosis proteins-B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2), Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax), and Caspase-3-and the activity related to the signaling pathways phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/ protein kinase B (AKT)/ mammalian target of rapamycin 1 (mTORC1). The team measured optical densities and inhibition rates for the 1, 2, 5, 10, and 15 mg/mL Xiaokuo groups and for a negative control group. The research team measured apoptosis, expression of Bcl-2, Bax, and Caspase-3, and expression of P13K, AKT, and mTor for the 10 µmol/L LY294002, 10 mg/mL Xiaoluo, 100 ng/mL IGF-1, and 100 ng/mL IGF-1+10 mg/mL Xiaoluo groups and for the blank control group. Results: The inhibition of SW579 cell proliferation increased with each increase in the Xiaoluo concentration from 1-15 mg/mL, and the inhibition rate reached 49.63% when the concentration was 15 mg/ml. The Xiaoluo group's late and total apoptosis rates were significantly higher (both P < .01) than those of the blank control group. The Xiaoluo group's expression of the Bcl-2 protein was significantly lower (P < .05), and its expressions of Bax and Caspase-3 were significantly higher (both P < .01) than those of the blank control group. The Xiaoluo group's expressions of P-PI3K, P-Akt, and P-MTOR were significantly lower than those of the blank group (all P < .01). These findings were comparable to those that occurred with use of the PI3K/AKT/mTORC1 signaling pathway inhibitor LY294002. Conclusions: Xiaoluo exerts its antithyroid-cancer effects through the induction of apoptosis in thyroid cancer cells through the inhibition of the PI3K/AKT/mTORC1 signaling pathway. Xiaoluo may serve as a potential therapeutic agent for the treatment of thyroid cancer.

Background: We investigated the application value of no-invasive myocardial work in evaluating left ventricular (LV) function in patients with hyperthyroidism. Methods: Sixty-five patients with an initial hyperthyroidism diagnosis were sorted into tachycardia (group TH1, n=31) and without tachycardia (group TH2, n=34) groups. Thirty healthy participants served as the control group (group CON). LV strain parameters and LV myocardial work parameters were evaluated at rest. Each parameter's value in identifying myocardial damage was analyzed using receiver operating characteristic curves. The correlation of myocardial work parameters with global longitudinal strain (GLS), longitudinal peak strain dispersion (normalized by heart rate, PSDN), and systolic blood pressure (SBP) was analyzed. Results: There was no difference in classic echocardiographic parameters between the groups. Compared with that in group CON, GLS decreased in groups TH1 and TH2 (TH1 17.99%±2.21% and TH2: 19.00%±2.85% vs. 20.27%±1.49%; both P<0.05); there was no significant difference between groups TH1 and TH2. PSDN increased in groups TH1 and TH2 (TH1 73.13±19.51 ms and TH2 55.06±17.03 vs. 44.13±8.65 ms; both P<0.05); it was higher in group TH1 than in group TH2 (P<0.05). Myocardial global work efficiency (GWE) decreased in groups TH1 and TH2 {TH1 95% [interquartile range (IQR), 94-95%] and TH2 96% (IQR, 95-97%) vs. 97% (IQR, 96-97%); both P<0.05}; it was lower in group TH1 than in group TH2 (P<0.05). Global constructive work (GCW) decreased in group TH1 (1,865.29±284.13 vs. 2,030.33±252.52 mmHg%; P<0.05), but was not different from that in group TH2; there was no difference between groups TH2 and CON. Global wasted work (GWW) increased in groups TH1 and TH2 [TH1 83.00 (IQR, 74.00-97.00) mmHg% and TH2 69.50 (IQR, 51.25-84.25) vs. 50.50 (IQR, 40.75-65.25) mmHg%; both P<0.05]; it was higher in group TH1 than in group TH2 (P<0.05). The area under the GWE curve was the largest (area under the curve =0.835), and the optimal cutoff point was 96.5%, with a sensitivity of 0.83 and a specificity of 0.70. GWE and GCW were positively correlated with GLS and negatively correlated with PSDN. GWW was negatively correlated with GLS and positively correlated with PSDN. In group CON, GCW and GWW were positively correlated with SBP; GWE was not correlated with SBP. In groups TH1 and TH2, GCW was positively correlated with SBP, but not with GWW or GWE. Conclusions: Hyperthyroidism can significantly decrease the GWE and increase GWW of the left ventricle. This change is more pronounced in patients with tachycardia. Myocardial work could be a novel method for the evaluation of LV myocardial function in patients with hyperthyroidism.

BACKGROUND: Owing to their similar appearance, lichen striatus (LS), lichen nitidus (LN), juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG), and molluscum contagiosum (MC) on the penis often lead to misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis, especially in children. In vivo evaluation of penile dermatoses with reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is helpful in the diagnosis of these ambiguous lesions in children. METHODS: We recruited 12 patients with LS, nine with LN, seven with JXG, and nine with MC and evaluated the characteristics and distinguishing features of the four kinds of papule dermatoses on the penis using RCM. RESULTS: The four dermatoses all had unique RCM features. LS generally showed focally destroyed dermal papillary rings, with numerous mononuclear cell clusters aggregated inside the papillary rings, and highly refractive clumps were observed. For LN, the dermal papillary rings were completely destroyed and arranged in a solitary, enlarged, cavity-like structure, in which round cells, particulate matter structures, and plump cellular structures were aggregated; the adjacent skin was completely normal. In JXG, the dermal papillary rings were significantly dilated, and the superficial dermis was filled with different-sized large bright ring cells; smaller, refractive, roundish structures; and particulate matter. For MC, the normal structures completely disappeared; the lesions were arranged in a crater-shaped structure; and a mass-like substance formed by the aggregation of multiple, uniform, roundish structures was observed within the crater. CONCLUSION: RCM allows for real-time visualization of major key diagnostic and distinguishing features of four papule dermatoses, LS, LN, JXG, and MC, on the penis in children.

RESUMO

Cancer is the leading cause of death globally and there is a worldwide cancer epidemic. Immunotherapy has emerged as a promising anticancer therapy. In particular, oncolytic viruses destroy cancer cells without destroying normal tissue via viral self­replication and anti­tumor immune responses, showing potential for cancer therapy. The present review discusses the role of the immune system in the treatment of tumor. The strategies for treating tumors are briefly introduced from aspects of active immunization and passive immunotherapy and the dendritic cell vaccines and oncolytic viruses are highlighted, as well as use of blood group A antigen in the treatment of solid tumors.
