Diclofenac sodium (DCF) was reported as an important emerging environmental pollutant and its removal from wastewater is very urgent. In this study, different alkyl substituted ionic liquids (1-alkyl -3-vinyl- imidazolium bromide [CnVIm]Br, n = 4, 6, 8, 10, 12) functionalized tragacanth gum (TG-CnBr) are prepared by radiation induced grafting and crosslinking polymerization. The adsorption behaviors of ionic liquids functionalized tragacanth gum for diclofenac sodium from aqueous solutions are examined. The adsorption capacity of TG-CnBr for diclofenac sodium increases with the increasing of alkyl chain length of the imidazolium cation and the hydrophobicity of the hydrogels. The maximum adsorption capacity by TG-C12Br for diclofenac sodium at 30, 40 and 50 °C were 327.87, 310.56 and 283.29 mg/g, respectively. The adsorption of TG-C12Br towards diclofenac sodium was little decreased with NaCl increasing. The removal efficiency was still remained 94.55 % within 5 adsorption-desorption cycles by 1 M HCl. Also, the adsorption mechanism including electrostatic attraction, hydrophobic interaction, hydrogen bonding, and π - π interaction was proposed.

BACKGROUND: Intestinal obstruction is a common occurrence in clinical practice. However, the occurrence of herpes zoster complicated by intestinal obstruction after abdominal surgery is exceedingly rare. In the diagnostic and treatment process, clinicians consider it crucial to identify the primary causes of its occurrence to ensure effective treatment and avoiding misdiagnosis. CASE SUMMARY: Herein, we present the case of a 40-year-old female patient with intestinal obstruction who underwent laparoscopic appendectomy and developed herpes zoster after surgery. Combining the patient's clinical manifestations and relevant laboratory tests, it was suggested that the varicella zoster virus reactivated during the latent period after abdominal surgery, causing herpes zoster. Subsequently, the herpes virus invaded the visceral nerve fibers, causing gastrointestinal dysfunction and loss of intestinal peristalsis, which eventually led to intestinal obstruction. The patient was successfully treated through conservative treatment and antiviral therapy and subsequently discharged from the hospital. CONCLUSION: Pseudo-intestinal obstruction secondary to herpes zoster infection is difficult to distinguish from mechanical intestinal obstruction owing to various causes. In cases of inexplicable intestinal obstructions, considering the possibility of a viral infection is essential to minimize misdiagnosis and missed diagnoses.

Introduction: Taraxacum mongolicum (TM) is a kind of medicinal and edible homologous plant which is included in the catalogue of feed raw materials in China. It is rich in polyphenols, flavonoids, polysaccharides and other active substances, and shows many benefits to livestock, poultry and aquatic products. The study aimed to assess the potential of TM aqueous extract (TMAE) as a substitute for poultry AGPs. Methods: A total of 240 one-day-old Arbor Acker broilers were randomly assigned to four groups and fed a basal diet (Con) supplemented with 500, 1000, and 2000 mg/kg TMAE (Low, Medium, and High groups). The growth performance of the broilers was measured on day 21 and day 42. At the end of the trial, the researchers measured slaughter performance and collected serum, liver, spleen, ileum, and intestinal contents to investigate the effects of TMAE on serum biochemistry, antioxidant capacity, immune function, organ coefficient, intestinal morphology, flora composition, and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Results: The results showed that broilers treated with TMAE had a significantly higher average daily gain from 22 to 42 days old compared to the Con group. Various doses of TMAE resulted in different levels of improvement in serum chemistry. High doses increased serum alkaline phosphatase and decreased creatinine. TMAE also increased the antioxidant capacity of serum, liver, and ileum in broilers. Additionally, middle and high doses of TMAE enhanced the innate immune function of the liver (IL-10) and ileum (Occludin) in broilers. Compared to the control group, the TMAE treatment group exhibited an increase in the ratio of villi length to villi crypt in the duodenum. TMAE increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria, such as Alistipes and Lactobacillus, while reducing the accumulation of harmful bacteria, such as Colidextracter and Sellimonas. The cecum's SCFAs content increased with a medium dose of TMAE. Supplementing broiler diets with TMAE at varying doses enhanced growth performance and overall health. The most significant benefits were observed at a dose of 1000 mg/kg, including improved serum biochemical parameters, intestinal morphology, antioxidant capacity of the liver and ileum, immune function of the liver and ileum, and increased SCFAs content. Lactobacillus aviarius, norank_f_norank_o__Clostridia_UCG-014, and Flavonifractor are potentially dominant members of the intestinal microflora. Conclusion: In conclusion, TMAE is a promising poultry feed additive and 1000 mg/kg is an effective reference dose.

BACKGROUND: The repair and reconstruction of medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRTs) is an important issue in the field of orthopedic sports medicine. This study reports the first application of arthroscopic linear chain fixation for the treatment of MMPRTs. CASE PRESENTATION: A 78-year-old female patient presented with a 1.5-month history of right knee pain accompanied by a locked facet joint. The patient underwent surgery with the new linear chain fixation method. In this method, the suture and the loop part of the buckle-strap titanium plate were combined into a linear chain mechanical complex, and the tension of the posterior root stump was gradually increased by pulling on the two attachment lines at the external mouth of the tibial tunnel. The postoperative Lysholm score was 89, and the visual analogue scale score was 0.9, indicating a significant improvement in knee joint function. At the 7-month and 1-year post-surgery follow-up, physical and MRI examinations confirmed satisfactory healing of the MMPRTs. CONCLUSION: This surgical approach offers several benefits, including a simplified instrumentation setup, preservation of natural anatomical structures, and reliable residual stump fixation. It has the potential for clinical implementation.

Background: Despite the well-grounded benefits of physical activity (PA), poor compliance with the PA guidelines has been reported among head and neck cancer (HNC) patients. Mobile health (mHealth)-based interventions can help cancer survivors increase their PA levels and increase the reach or efficiency of rehabilitation services. However, there is limited knowledge about the needs and perceptions of HNC patients regarding these interventions. This study explored the perceptions and needs of HNC patients regarding mHealth-based PA programs before developing such interventions to ensure their improved effectiveness. Study design: A constructivist qualitative study. Methods: We purposively selected 17 adult HNC patients aged 40-80 years to determine their needs and perceptions of future mHealth-based PA programs. Semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted, and the data were analyzed via thematic analysis. The report followed the Consolidated Criteria for Qualitative Research Reports guidelines. Results: Four themes were analyzed from the interview transcripts regarding the needs and perceptions of mHealth-based PA programs: (1) functionality needs; (2) system usage requirements; (3) social support; and (4) perceived barriers and facilitators. HNC patients expect highly customized and specialized mHealth interventions that consider individual factors, address their concerns about security, network, and cost, and prefer improved comfort. Moreover, they expect to receive support from their healthcare providers, families, and peers. Conclusion: The study provides pragmatic ready-to-use recommendations to design interventions for inactive HNC patients to achieve the recommended PA levels. Future mHealth interventions should be tailored according to the needs of the HNC patients by utilizing perceived facilitators and removing perceived barriers to help them engage in PA actively.

The incidence rate of colorectal cancer (CRC) has been increasing significantly in recent years, and it is urgent to develop novel drugs that have more effects for its treatment. It has been reported that many molecules extracted from the root bark of Morus alba L. (also known as Cortex Mori) have antitumor activities. In our study, we identified morusinol as a promising anticancer agent by selecting from 30 molecules extracted from Morus alba L. We found that morusinol treatment suppressed cell proliferation and promoted apoptosis of CRC cells in vitro. Besides this, we observed that morusinol induced cytoprotective autophagy. The GO analysis of differentially expressed genes from RNA-seq data showed that morusinol affected cholesterol metabolism. Then we found that key enzyme genes in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway as well as the sterol regulatory element binding transcription factor 2 (SREBF2) were significantly downregulated. Furthermore, additional cholesterol treatment reversed the anti-CRC effect of morusinol. Interestingly, we also found that morusinol treatment could promote forkhead box O3 (FOXO3a) nuclear accumulation, which subsequently suppressed SREBF2 transcription. Then SREBF2-controlled cholesterol biosynthesis was blocked, resulting in the suppression of cell proliferation, promotion of apoptosis, and production of autophagy. The experiments in animal models also showed that morusinol significantly impeded tumor growth in mice models. Our results suggested that morusinol may be used as a candidate anticancer drug for the treatment of CRC.

INTRODUCTION: By displaying tumor-specific neoangiogenesis, narrow band imaging (NBI), a novel imaging approach, enhances the diagnosis of head and neck cancers and makes it more accurate OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of NBI in combination with white light endoscopy (WLE) for diagnosis of preneoplastic or neoplastic laryngeal cancers according to Ni classification and to conclude if higher Ni classification and tumor stage are related. METHODS: We enrolled 114 patients with various laryngeal cancer between December 2018 and June 2021. Patients were examined with WLE and NBI. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) accounted for 46 cases, benign lesions 30 cases, and nondysplastic, low-grade, and severe dysplasias for 38 cases. Based on characteristics of the intraepithelial papillary capillary loop (IPCL), endoscopic NBI results were divided into five categories (I, II, III, IV, and V). Type I-IV are regarded to be benign, while type V is considered to be cancerous. An incisional biopsy was conducted to assess histopathology, and the histopathology was compared to the NBI results. We assessed the negative predictive value (NPV), positive predictive value (PPV), specificity, and sensitivity for WLE alone and WLE combined with NBI. Analyses were conducted using SPSS software version 26. RESULTS: The WLE combined with NBI showed excellent sensitivity (96%) compared to WLE (86.4%). Specificity was higher in the WLE combined with NBI (96.4%) than WLE alone (91.7%). WLE combined with NBI saw a NPV of 89% as compared with WLE with 88%. WLE and WLE in combination with NBI, recorded a PPV of 90% and 98%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The accuracy of detecting laryngeal cancer increases when WLE and NBI are combined. Combined NBI with WLE remains highly sensitive to early glottis cancer. Accuracy of preoperative NBI was high. In the diagnosis of laryngeal cancer, a higher Ni classification closely correlates with the late stages of the glottis tumor.

Although Artemisia sphaerocephala krasch gum (ASKG) has attracted growing attention in the field of medical engineering and food industries, however, there are few studies on the gelation of ASKG. In this paper, acrylic acid modified ASKG hydrogels were prepared by radiation induced grafting, cross-linking and polymerization technique for the first time. The semi-IPN structure was prepared by the cross-linked ASKG network and poly-AAc dispersed within the network. The effects of the adsorbed dose on the swelling ratio and gel fraction were investigated. The different acrylic acid content modified ASKG hydrogels (ASKGAAc1 and ASKGAAc2) for methyl blue (MB) adsorption were investigated, and the ASKG hydrogels was also studied for comparison. The influence of pH, contact time, initial concentration, temperature, ion strength on MB adsorption were tested. The results showed that acrylic acid can promote the formation of hydrogel and greatly enhanced the adsorption of ASKG. The adsorption isotherms were well obeyed the Langmuir model, and the maximum adsorption capacity for MB of ASKG, ASKGAAc1 and ASKGAAc2 were 571.43, 1517.8 and 1654.9 mg/g, respectively. Moreover, the MB adsorption by ASKG based hydrogels was exothermic, spontaneous, and more favorable at lower temperature. Furthermore, the adsorption-desorption experiments demonstrated a good reusability of these hydrogels.

Microorganisms are one of the important factors which maintain the homeostasis of human health. Despite recent advances, the relationship between microorganisms and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is still unclear, and the impact of microorganisms on the incidence and prognosis of HNSCC cannot be neglected. Therefore, this article provides a systematic and comprehensive review summarizing the epidemiological evidence of microbial dysbiosis related to HNSCC and discusses the associations between them.

BACKGROUD: Flavonoids have a variety of biological activities, such as anti-inflammation, anti-tumor, anti-thrombosis and so on. Morusinol, as a novel isoprene flavonoid extracted from Morus alba root barks, has the effects of anti-arterial thrombosis and anti-inflammatory in previous studies. However, the anti-cancer mechanism of morusinol remains unclear. PURPOSE: In present study, we mainly studied the anti-tumor effect of morusinol and its mode of action in melanoma. METHODS: The anti-cancer effect of morusinol on melanoma were evaluated by using the MTT, EdU, plate clone formation and soft agar assay. Flow cytometry was used for detecting cell cycle and apoptosis. The É£-H2AX immunofluorescence and the alkaline comet assay were used to detect DNA damage and the Western blotting analysis was used to investigate the expressions of DNA-damage related proteins. Ubiquitination and turnover of CHK1 were also detected by using the immunoprecipitation assay. The cell line-derived xenograft (CDX) mouse models were used in vivo to evaluate the effect of morusinol on tumorigenicity. RESULTS: We demonstrated that morusinol not only had the ability to inhibit cell proliferation, but also induced cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase, caspase-dependent apoptosis and DNA damage in human melanoma cells. In addition, morusinol effectively inhibited the growth of melanoma xenografts in vivo. More strikingly, CHK1, which played an important role in maintaining the integrity of cell cycle, genomic stability and cell viability, was down-regulated in a dose- and time-dependent manner after morusinol treatment. Further research showed that CHK1 was degraded by the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. Whereafter, morusinol-induced cell cycle arrest, apoptosis and DNA damage were partially salvaged by overexpressing CHK1 in melanoma cell lines. Herein, further experiments demonstrated that morusinol increased the sensitivity of dacarbazine (DTIC) to chemotherapy for melanoma in vitro and in vivo. CONCLUSION: Morusinol induces CHK1 degradation through the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway, thereby inducing cell cycle arrest, apoptosis and DNA damage response in melanoma. Our study firstly provided a theoretical basis for morusinol to be a candidate drug for clinical treatment of cancer, such as melanoma, alone or combinated with dacarbazine.

An innovative synthesis of 5-((1H-tetrazol-5-yl)methyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3,4-diamine (TMT) based on triazole and tetrazole frameworks bearing double amino groups was reported. It is worth mentioning that TMT is insensitive to impact and friction (IS > 40 J, FS > 360 N), thus enabling it to have an exceptional thermal decomposition behavior that is superior to RDX and TNT. Meanwhile, it also has relatively high energetic performance (Dv = 8.417 km/s). A series of energy-containing salts TMT-1-8 were also investigated for their potential applications. Except for TMT-4 and TMT-7, the remaining nitrogen-rich salts have initial decomposition temperatures above 200 °C. Furthermore, the salts with positive heat generation all have extraordinary gas production, especially for TMT-1 (Vo = 840.5 dm3/kg), TMT-2 (Vo = 803.9 dm3/kg), and TMT-7 (Vo = 844.3 dm3/kg). The low mechanical sensitivities of the TMT series were discovered, and a majority of them have impact sensitivities exceeding 40 J with friction sensitivities exceeding 360 N which are superior to TNT (IS = 15 J, FS = 353 N). The intermolecular and intramolecular interactions of the crystals TMT-1-3 were explored by Hirshfeld surfaces, 2D fingerprint plots, noncovalent interaction (NCI) analysis, and electrostatic potential surface analysis to understand the physicochemical property changes in relation to the structure. Consequently, this novel tri/tetrazole and polyamine system as a promising material provides the impetus for the development of gas generators and propellants.

The long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)-microRNA (miRNA) interaction network plays a crucial part in the pathogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Here, we discovered a relationship between LINC01376 and miR-4757 in NPC tumor development. First, LINC01376 was abnormally overexpressed in NPC tissues and cells, and its elevated expression was associated with advanced clinical stage and shorter distant metastasis-free survival time. Moreover, biological experiments showed that LINC01376 facilitated the proliferative, invasive, and migratory abilities of NPC cells in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, bioinformatics and RT-qPCR assays revealed that LINC01376 knockdown upregulated the expression level of downstream miR-4757, including miR-4757 primary transcript (pri-miR-4757) and mature miR-4757. Furthermore, LINC01376 competitively sponged the transcription factor SP1 and reduced its enrichment in the upstream promoter region of miR-4757 to repress miR-4757 expression. Finally, insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF1) was identified as the target of miR-4757. Rescue experiments indicated that LINC01376 accelerated NPC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion through the miR-4757-5p/IGF1 axis. In conclusion, the SP1/miR-4757/IGF1 axis, which is regulated by LINC01376 in NPC deterioration and metastasis, is expected to provide new insights into the molecular mechanism of NPC carcinogenesis.

Glioblastoma is the most malignant primary brain tumor, the prognosis of which remains dismal even with aggressive surgical, medical, and radiation therapies. Glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) promote therapeutic resistance and cellular heterogeneity due to their self-renewal properties and capacity for plasticity. To understand the molecular processes essential for maintaining GSCs, we performed an integrative analysis comparing active enhancer landscapes, transcriptional profiles, and functional genomics profiles of GSCs and non-neoplastic neural stem cells (NSCs). We identified sorting nexin 10 (SNX10), an endosomal protein sorting factor, as selectively expressed in GSCs compared with NSCs and essential for GSC survival. Targeting SNX10 impaired GSC viability and proliferation, induced apoptosis, and reduced self-renewal capacity. Mechanistically, GSCs utilized endosomal protein sorting to promote platelet-derived growth factor receptor ß (PDGFRß) proliferative and stem cell signaling pathways through posttranscriptional regulation of the PDGFR tyrosine kinase. Targeting SNX10 expression extended survival of orthotopic xenograft-bearing mice, and high SNX10 expression correlated with poor glioblastoma patient prognosis, suggesting its potential clinical importance. Thus, our study reveals an essential connection between endosomal protein sorting and oncogenic receptor tyrosine kinase signaling and suggests that targeting endosomal sorting may represent a promising therapeutic approach for glioblastoma treatment.

The hydrometallurgical recovery of gold from electronic waste and gold slag is a hot research topic. To develop a cost-effective and environmentally friendly adsorbent for gold recovery, four types of amino-acid (arginine, histidine, methionine, and cysteine)-functionalized cellulose microspheres were prepared via a radiation technique. The adsorption performance of the amino acid resins toward Au(III) ions was systematically investigated by batch experiments. The amino acid resins could absorb Au(III) ions at a wide pH range. The adsorption process was followed by the pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir model. The theoretical maximum adsorption capacity was calculated as 396.83 mg/g, 769.23 mg/g, 549.45 mg/g, and 636.94 mg/g for ArgR, HisR, MetR, and CysR, respectively. The amino acid resins could effectively and selectively recover trace Au(III) ions from the leaching solutions of printed circuit board and gold slag waste. Lastly, the mechanism underlying amino acid resin's Au(III) ion recovery capability was investigated by FTIR, XRD, and XPS analyses. This work describes a series of cost-effective gold adsorbents with excellent selectivity and adsorption capacity to boost their practical application.

BACKGROUND: Alterations in transcriptional regulators of glycolytic metabolism have been implicated in brain tumor growth, but the underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. METHODS: Knockdown and overexpression cells were used to explore the functional roles of HOXA3 in cell proliferation, tumor formation, and aerobic glycolysis. Chromatin immunoprecipitation, luciferase assays, and western blotting were performed to verify the regulation of HK2 and PKM2 by HOXA3. PLA, Immunoprecipitation, and GST-pull-down assays were used to examine the interaction of HOXA3 and KDM6A. RESULTS: We report that transcription factor homeobox A3 (HOXA3), which is aberrantly highly expressed in glioblastoma (GBM) patients and predicts poor prognosis, transcriptionally activates aerobic glycolysis, leading to a significant acceleration in cell proliferation and tumor growth. Mechanically, we identified KDM6A, a lysine-specific demethylase, as an important cooperator of HOXA3 in regulating aerobic glycolysis. HOXA3 activates KDM6A transcription and recruits KDM6A to genomic binding sites of glycolytic genes, targeting glycolytic genes for transcriptional activation by removing the suppressive histone modification H3K27 trimethylation. Further evidence demonstrates that HOXA3 requires KDM6A for transcriptional activation of aerobic glycolysis and brain tumor growth. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide a novel molecular mechanism linking HOXA3-mediated transactivation and KDM6A-coupled H3K27 demethylation in regulating glucose metabolism and GBM progression.

BACKGROUND: Circ-PDCD11 (hsa_circ_0019853, 461 bp) has been characterized as an oncogenic circRNA in breast cancer, while its function in other cancers is unclear. In this study, we explored the role of circ-PDCD11 in lung cancer. METHODS: Plasma samples were obtained from patients with lung large-cell carcinoma (LLCC, n = 40), lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC, n = 40), lung adenocarcinoma (LA, n = 40) and small-cell lung cancer (SCLC, n = 40) as well as healthy controls (Control, n = 40). Paired tumor and nontumor tissue samples were obtained from all patients. Expression of circ-PDCD11 in these samples was determined by RT-qPCR. The role of plasma circ-PDCD11 in the diagnosis of LLCC was analyzed with ROC curve. A five-year follow-up was performed to analyze the role of plasma circ-PDCD11 in the prognosis of LLCC. RESULTS: Plasma circ-PDCD11 was specifically upregulated in LLCC but not in other lung cancer types, compared to the controls. Increased circ-PDCD11 expression in tumor tissues compared to nontumor tissues was only observed in LLCC patients but not in other lung cancer types. Increased plasma circ-PDCD11 levels effectively separated LLCC patients from patients with other types of cancers. High plasma circ-PDCD11 levels were closely correlated with poor survival of LLCC patients. Plasma circ-PDCD11 levels were closely correlated with tumor metastasis, but not tumor size of LLCC. CONCLUSION: CircRNA circ-PDCD11 is highly expressed specifically in LLCC and predicts poor survival.

RUNX3 is a transcription factor and tumor suppressor that is silenced or inactivated in diverse tumors. The effect of RUNX3 on the epithelial-mesenchymal transition in clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC) remains unclear. We determined the expression of RUNX3 and E-cadherin in tumor tissues and adjacent normal tissues of 30 CCRCC patients; established cultured CCRCC cells with the overexpression of RUNX3; and examined the in vivo tumorigenic function of RUNX3 in a nude mouse xenograft model of CCRCC. RUNX3 and E-cadherin were downregulated in human CCRCC samples. Cell lines with RUNX3 overexpression had reduced cell proliferation, invasion, and migration, a prolonged cell cycle, increased apoptosis, and increased expression of E-cadherin. In the nude mouse xenograft model of CCRCC, tumors with the overexpression of RUNX3 had smaller volumes and weights and had increased expression of E-cadherin. In conclusion, RUNX3 overexpression increased the level of E-cadherin and inhibited the proliferation, invasion, and migration of CCRCC in vitro and in vivo. RUNX3 has potential use as a biomarker for prognostic monitoring of CCRCC and as a therapeutic target for the treatment of this cancer.

Spatially resolved proteomics is an emerging approach for mapping proteome heterogeneity of biological samples, however, it remains technically challenging due to the complexity of the tissue microsampling techniques and mass spectrometry analysis of nanoscale specimen volumes. Here, we describe a spatially resolved proteomics method based on the combination of tissue expansion with mass spectrometry-based proteomics, which we call Expansion Proteomics (ProteomEx). ProteomEx enables quantitative profiling of the spatial variability of the proteome in mammalian tissues at ~160 µm lateral resolution, equivalent to the tissue volume of 0.61 nL, using manual microsampling without the need for custom or special equipment. We validated and demonstrated the utility of ProteomEx for streamlined large-scale proteomics profiling of biological tissues including brain, liver, and breast cancer. We further applied ProteomEx for identifying proteins associated with Alzheimer's disease in a mouse model by comparative proteomic analysis of brain subregions.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical effect of the tarsal sinus approach combined with Herbert screw and minimally invasive calcaneal locking plate compared with traditional lateral L-shaped incision approach combined with plate internal fixation in the treatment of SandersⅡ and Ⅲ calcaneal fractures. METHODS: Total of 110 patients with SandersⅡ and Ⅲ calcaneal fractures admitted from March 2018 to March 2020 were selected. There were 66 males and 44 females, ranging in age from 20 to 72 years old, with an average of (48.82±8.03) years old. There were 48 SandersⅡ patients and 62 Sanders Ⅲ patients, including 41 left calcaneal fractures and 69 right calcaneal fractures. According to the surgical approach, the patients were divided into the tarsal sinus approach group and the L-shaped incision approach group, 55 cases in each group. The L-shaped incision approach group was treated with traditional lateral L-shaped incision approach combined with internal fixation plate, while the sinus tarsal approach group was treated with tarsal sinus approach combined with Herbert screw and minimally invasive calcaneal locking plate. The operative time, intraoperative blood loss, length of hospital stay and time of fracture healing were recorded to evaluate the surgical effect. The B?hler angle, Gissane angle, calcaneal length and width of the patients before and after surgery were examined by X-ray and the surgical reduction was highly evaluated. Foot function recovery was evaluated by American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Maryland Scale, and postoperative complications were recorded. RESULTS: All patients were followed up to 12 months after surgery, the operation time and hospitalization time of patients in the sinus tarsal approach group were shorter than those in the L-shaped incision approach group (P<0.05), and the amount of intraoperative blood loss was lower than that in the L-shaped incision approach group(P<0.05). One year after surgery, B?hler angle, Gissane angle, calcaneus length and height were increased(P<0.05), calcaneus width was decreased (P<0.05). One year after the operation, the Maryland scores of the two groups were increased(P<0.05). During the follow-up period, the incidence of postoperative complications (incision infection, joint pain, soft tissue injury) in the sinus tarsalapproach group was lower than that in the L-shaped incision approach group(P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The traditional lateral L-shaped incision approach and the tarsal sinus approach are both good for the treatment of SandersⅡand Ⅲ calcaneal fractures, but the latter can shorten the surgical treatment time and reduce the incidence of complications.
