RESUMO

Background/Objectives: Implant treatment in patients who require teeth extraction due to periodontitis presents a significant challenge. The consideration of peri-implantitis is crucial when planning the placement of dental implants. The predictability of implant treatment relies on the suitability of both hard and soft tissue quality. The aim of this article is to present a case report demonstrating a secure treatment protocol for implant procedures in patients with periodontitis requiring the extraction of all teeth, soft tissue management targeted at increasing the keratinized mucosa zone, and the provision of a reliable prosthetic solution. The secondary objective is to review the relevant literature regarding the significance of keratinized mucosa surrounding dental implants and its association with the occurrence of peri-implantitis. Case presentation: A 65-year-old female with generalized periodontitis, stage IV grade C and very poor oral hygiene came for treatment and rehabilitation of the lower jaw. CBCT revealed periodontal lesions and labio-lingual ridge dimensions in the region of teeth 34-44 from 8.0 to 10.2 mm. The first surgery included teeth extraction and periodontal lesions enucleation with simultaneous placement of four implants in the positions of teeth 32, 34, 42, 44. The second-stage surgery involved increasing the keratinized mucosa using two free gingival grafts. Conclusions: The present case report described the treatment process of the patient with periodontitis, including immediate implantation in the infected region, soft tissue augmentation using free gingival grafts and the ultimate placement of a bar-retained overdenture for final restoration. After two years of observation, despite questionable hygiene, no symptoms of gingival inflammation were detected. Furthermore, there is limited information in the literature regarding the correlation between inadequate keratinized gingiva and the occurrence of peri-implantitis.

RESUMO

(1) Background: The aim of the study is to evaluate the analgesic effectiveness of a physical therapy regimen that combines the use of an electromagnetic field with light radiation emitted by LEDs, along with the use of Traumeel S ointment, in patients with gonarthrosis. (2) Methods: The study included 90 patients with knee osteoarthritis (grade 2 Kellgren and Lawrence osteoarthritis). They were divided into three groups: Group I, 30 patients treated with magnetic stimulation plus LED therapy; Group II, 30 patients treated with Traumeel S ointment; and Group III, 30 patients treated with magnetic stimulation plus LED therapy with Traumeel S ointment. Pain intensity was assessed using the VAS and Laitinen scales before and after a series of treatments. (3) Results: Significant results in terms of pain reduction before and after treatment were obtained in each of the study groups, as there were significant differences in the VAS pain intensity scores before and after the procedures between the groups. In group I, with electromagnetic field and LED light treatment, the difference was 35.5; in group II, which received Traumeel S® ointment, the difference was 18.5; and in group III, with electromagnetic field and LED light treatment as well as Traumeel S ointment, the difference was 26.5. In the Laitinen scale, the differences were insignificant, although the size distribution was similar. (4) Conclusions: The therapy used in this study showed that magnetic stimulation plus LED therapy and the use of Traumeel S ointment gave positive results in terms of pain reduction in each of the study groups. The strongest analgesic factor seems to be magnetic and LED therapies used separately. Traumeel S in magnetoledophoresis does not work synergistically with the magnetic field of LED light, and even worsens the effect of the therapy used.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Maternal diet during pregnancy is a modifiable behaviour which plays an important role in maternal, neonatal and child health outcomes. Thus, knowledge of predictors of dietary quality and dietary inflammatory potential in European countries may contribute to developing maternal diet-related public health policies that target specific at-risk populations in Europe. METHODS: We used harmonised data from >26,000 pregnant women enrolled in the ALSPAC, EDEN, Generation R, Lifeways, REPRO_PL, ROLO and SWS cohorts, as part of the ALPHABET consortium. Maternal dietary quality and inflammatory potential were assessed using the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) and the energy-adjusted Dietary Inflammatory Index (E-DII). We conducted an individual participant data meta-analysis to investigate the maternal sociodemographic, health and behavioural predictors of maternal diet before and during pregnancy. RESULTS: DASH and E-DII scores were moderately correlated: from -0.63 (95% CI: -0.66, -0.59) to -0.48 (95% CI: -0.49, -0.47) across cohorts. Higher maternal age, education, household income, and physical activity during pregnancy were associated with a better dietary quality and a more anti-inflammatory diet. Conversely, multiparity and smoking during pregnancy were associated with a poorer dietary quality and a more proinflammatory diet. Women with obesity had a poorer pregnancy dietary quality than women with a normal body mass index range. CONCLUSIONS: The results will help identify population subgroups who may benefit from targeted public health strategies and interventions aimed at improving women's dietary quality during pregnancy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bisphenol A (BPA) is an industrial chemical mostly used in the manufacture of plastics, resins and thermal paper. Several studies have reported adverse health effects with BPA exposures, namely metabolic disorders and altered neurodevelopment in children, among others. The aim of this study was to explore BPA exposure, its socio-demographic and life-style related determinants, and its association with neurodevelopmental outcomes in early school age children from Poland. METHODS: A total of 250 urine samples of 7 year-old children from the Polish Mother and Child Cohort Study (REPRO_PL) were analyzed for BPA concentrations using high performance liquid chromatography with online sample clean-up coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (online-SPE-LC-MS/MS). Socio-demographic and lifestyle-related data was collected by questionnaires or additional biomarker measurements. Emotional and behavioral symptoms in children were assessed using mother-reported Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Cognitive and psychomotor development was evaluated by Polish adaptation of the Intelligence and Development Scales (IDS) performed by trained psychologists. RESULTS: Urinary BPA concentrations and back-calculated daily intakes (medians of 1.8 µg/l and 46.3 ng/kg bw/day, respectively) were similar to other European studies. Urinary cotinine levels and body mass index, together with maternal educational level and socio-economic status, were the main determinants of BPA levels in Polish children. After adjusting for confounding factors, BPA has been found to be positively associated with emotional symptoms (ß: 0.14, 95% CI: 0.022; 0.27). Cognitive and psychomotor development were not found to be related to BPA levels. CONCLUSIONS: This study represents the first report of BPA levels and their determinants in school age children in Poland. The exposure level was found to be related to child emotional condition, which can have long-term consequences including social functioning and scholastic achievements. Further monitoring of this population in terms of overall chemical exposure is required.

RESUMO

The nose is the most prominent structure of the face, influencing facial appearance and profile. Orthodontists have an awareness of facial structures, including nasal morphology, when diagnosing and treatment planning. Maxillofacial surgeons influence facial profile by bimaxillary surgery, improving facial aesthetics and harmony. The aim of this review was to summarize the available methods of analysing nasal morphology and profile, and to assess their complexity. A literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase using the following search terms: "nasal profile analysis", "nasolabial angle", and "nasal profile cephalometric" in order to select studies providing knowledge on correlations between occlusion and nasal development, differences between skeletal classes, ethnic variability, and differences between the sexes. Studies concerning genetic disorders were excluded. Finally, 17 full-text papers were analysed, which pertained to nasolabial angle, or facial profile including the nose. Data concerning methods, ethnic group, reference landmarks used, and measurements made were extracted and placed in tables. Numerous methods of nasal profile analysis can be found in the literature. These methods describe various numbers of parameters, which have influence on facial aesthetic. Nasal parameters are correlated to skeletal class and nasolabial angle, positions of upper incisors, and maxillary inclination.

RESUMO

The term "wellness" embraces a wide spectrum of methods that impact the human body by restoring its capabilities and functions, which were previously depleted as a result of increased physical and mental activities such, i.e. sport. Judging by the number of amateur, semi-professional, and professional sporting events at local and national levels, societies consider sports a major part of their everyday lives. A growing percentage of the population is exposing their bodies to various strains, which may result in fatigue, overtraining and injuries, and so the market demand for recovery-related services is on the rise. Therefore, this paper is an overview of the most important and the latest wellness systems and methods applied in today's sport. They divide into three areas: pedagogical, psychological and medical-biological. Among the most popular treatments are: light radiation with infrared rays, cryotherapy, electrotherapy, magnetotherapy, ultrasound and laser therapy, as well as a sauna, paraffin compress, mud compress and brine baths. In a broader context, the paper also acknowledges the growing demand for better body recovery methods and the latest developments in the field of sport physiotherapy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Mounting evidence suggests that maternal diet influences pregnancy and birth outcomes, but its contribution to the global epidemic of childhood obesity has not as yet been definitively characterized. We investigated whether maternal whole diet quality and inflammatory potential influence childhood adiposity. METHODS: We harmonized and pooled individual participant data from 16,295 mother-child pairs in seven European birth cohorts. Maternal pre-, early-, late-, and whole-pregnancy (any time during pregnancy) dietary quality and inflammatory potential assessed with the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) score and the energy-adjusted Dietary Inflammatory Index (E-DII™) score, respectively. Primary outcome was childhood overweight and obesity (OWOB) (age-and-sex-specific BMI z-score > 85th percentile). Secondary outcomes were sum of skinfold thickness (SST), fat mass index (FMI) and fat-free mass index (FFMI). We used multivariable regression analyses (adjusting for maternal lifestyle and sociodemographic factors) to assess the associations of maternal DASH and E-DII scores with offspring adiposity outcomes in cohort-specific analyses, with subsequent random-effect meta-analyses. RESULTS: The study mothers had a mean (SD) age of 30.2 (4.6) years and a mean BMI of 23.4 (4.2) kg/m2. Higher early-pregnancy E-DII scores (more pro-inflammatory diet) tended to be associated with a higher odds of late-childhood [10.6 (1.2) years] OWOB [OR (95% CI) 1.09 (1.00, 1.19) per 1-SD E-DII score increase], whereas an inverse association was observed for late-pregnancy E-DII score and early-childhood [2.8 (0.3) years] OWOB [0.91 (0.83, 1.00)]. Higher maternal whole pregnancy DASH score (higher dietary quality) was associated with a lower odds of late-childhood OWOB [OR (95% CI) 0.92 (0.87, 0.98) per 1-SD DASH score increase]; associations were of similar magnitude for early and late-pregnancy [0.86 (0.72, 1.04) and 0.91 (0.85, 0.98), respectively]. These associations were robust in several sensitivity analyses and further adjustment for birth weight and childhood diet did not meaningfully alter the associations and conclusions. In two cohorts with available data, a higher whole pregnancy E-DII and lower DASH scores were associated with a lower late-childhood FFMI in males and a higher mid-childhood FMI in females (P interactions < 0.10). CONCLUSIONS: A pro-inflammatory, low-quality maternal antenatal diet may adversely influence offspring body composition and OWOB risk, especially during late-childhood. Promoting an overall healthy and anti-inflammatory maternal dietary pattern may contribute to the prevention of childhood obesity, a complex health issue requiring multifaceted strategy.

RESUMO

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the most prevalent age-related neurodegenerative disease that affects the cognition, behavior, and daily activities of individuals. Studies indicate that this disease is characterized by several pathological mechanisms, including the accumulation of amyloid-beta peptide, hyperphosphorylation of tau protein, impairment of cholinergic neurotransmission, and increase in inflammatory responses within the central nervous system. Chronic neuroinflammation associated with AD is closely related to disturbances in metabolic processes, including insulin release and glucose metabolism. As AD is also called type III diabetes, diverse compounds having antidiabetic effects have been investigated as potential drugs for its symptomatic and disease-modifying treatment. In addition to insulin and oral antidiabetic drugs, scientific attention has been paid to cyclic-3',5'-adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-specific phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors that can modulate the concentration of glucose and related hormones and exert beneficial effects on memory, mood, and emotional processing. In this review, we present the most recent reports focusing on the involvement of cAMP-specific PDE4, PDE7, and PDE8 in glycemic and inflammatory response controls as well as the potential utility of the PDE inhibitors in the treatment of AD. Besides the results of in vitro and in vivo studies, the review also presents recent reports from clinical trials.

RESUMO

Phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors are currently a widespread and extensively studied group of anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic compounds which may find use in the treatment of numerous lung diseases, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Several PDE inhibitors are currently in clinical development, and some of them, e.g., roflumilast, are already recommended for clinical use. Due to numerous reports indicating that elevated intracellular cAMP levels may contribute to the alleviation of inflammation and airway fibrosis, new and effective PDE inhibitors are constantly being sought. Recently, a group of 7,8-disubstituted purine-2,6-dione derivatives, representing a novel and prominent pan-PDE inhibitors has been synthesized. Some of them were reported to modulate transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) ion channels as well. In this study, we investigated the effect of selected derivatives (832-a pan-PDE inhibitor, 869-a TRPA1 modulator, and 145-a pan-PDE inhibitor and a weak TRPA1 modulator) on cellular responses related to airway remodeling using MRC-5 human lung fibroblasts. Compound 145 exerted the most considerable effect in limiting fibroblast to myofibroblasts transition (FMT) as well as proliferation, migration, and contraction. The effect of this compound appeared to depend mainly on its strong PDE inhibitory properties, and not on its effects on TRPA1 modulation. The strong anti-remodeling effects of 145 required activation of the cAMP/protein kinase A (PKA)/cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) pathway leading to inhibition of transforming growth factor type ß1 (TGF-ß1) and Smad-dependent signaling in MRC-5 cells. These data suggest that the TGF-ß pathway is a major target for PDE inhibitors leading to inhibitory effects on cell responses involved in airway remodeling. These potent, pan-PDE inhibitors from the group of 7,8-disubstituted purine-2,6-dione derivatives, thus represent promising anti-remodeling drug candidates for further research.

RESUMO

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive impairments such as memory loss, decline in language skills, and disorientation that affects over 46 million people worldwide. Patients with AD also suffer from behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia that deteriorate their quality of life and lead to premature death. Currently available drugs provide modest symptomatic relief but do not reduce pathological hallmarks (senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles) and neuroinflammation, both of which are integral parts of dementia. A large body of evidence indicates that impaired signaling pathways of cyclic-3',5'- Adenosine Monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic-3',5'-guanosine Monophosphate (cGMP) may contribute to the development and progression of AD. In addition, Phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors, commonly known as cAMP and/or cGMP modulators, were found to be involved in the phosphorylation of tau; aggregation of amyloid beta; neuroinflammation; and regulation of cognition, mood, and emotion processing. The purpose of this review was to update the most recent reports on the development of novel multifunctional ligands targeting PDE as potential drugs for both symptomatic and disease-modifying therapy of AD. This review collected the chemical structures of representative multifunctional ligands, results of experimental in vitro and in vivo pharmacological studies, and current opinions regarding the potential utility of these compounds for the comprehensive therapy of AD. Finally, the multiparameter predictions of drugability of the representative compounds were calculated and discussed.

RESUMO

Airway remodelling (AR) is an important pathological feature of chronic asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The etiology of AR is complex and involves both lung structural and immune cells. One of the main contributors to airway remodelling is the airway smooth muscle (ASM), which is thickened by asthma, becomes more contractile and produces more extracellular matrix. As a second messenger, adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) has been shown to contribute to ASM cell (ASMC) relaxation as well as to anti-remodelling effects in ASMC. Phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors have drawn attention as an interesting new group of potential anti-inflammatory and anti-remodelling drugs. Recently, new hydrazide and amide purine-2,6-dione derivatives with anti-inflammatory properties have been synthesized by our team (compounds 1 and 2). We expanded our study of their PDE selectivity profile, ability to increase intracellular cAMP levels, metabolic stability and, above all, their capacity to modulate cell responses associated with ASMC remodelling. The results show that both compounds have subtype specificity for several PDE isoforms (including inhibition of PDE1, PDE3, PDE4 and PDE7). Interestingly, such combined PDE subtype inhibition exerts improved anti-remodelling efficacies against several ASMC-induced responses such as proliferation, contractility, extracellular matrix (ECM) protein expression and migration when compared to other non-selective and selective PDE inhibitors. Our findings open novel perspectives in the search for new chemical entities with dual anti-inflammatory and anti-remodelling profiles in the group of purine-2,6-dione derivatives as broad-spectrum PDE inhibitors.

RESUMO

Identification of the youth at risk of e-cigarette use is crucial for development of effective prevention strategies. The current study aims at evaluation of predictors of susceptibility to e-cigarette initiation and experimentation among adolescents. This cross-sectional study included 1693 students (non-current users of e-cigarettes) attending 21 schools in Piotrkowski district (a socially disadvantaged rural area in central Poland). The regression models were applied so as to study factors linked to susceptibility to e-cigarette use among never users (n = 1054) and ever users (n = 639) of e-cigarettes, with susceptibility defined as the absence of a firm decision not to use these products. A high proportion of the youth was susceptible to e-cigarette use (68% of never and 78% of ever e-cigarette users). The adjusted model confirmed the following risk factors: smoking parents and friends (never users: OR = 3.0; p < 0.001; OR = 2.0; p < 0.05; ever users: OR = 2.2; OR = 2.2; p < 0.01), alcohol consumption (never users: moderate drinking OR = 2.9; p < 0.001; binge drinking OR = 2.2; p < 0.01; ever users: moderate drinking OR = 4.2; p < 0.001), cigarette smoking (never users: OR = 14.1; ever users: OR = 11.3; p < 0.001), and perception that e-cigarettes are less harmful than traditional cigarettes (never users: OR = 1.8; p < 0.001). The youth whose mothers had a medium and high educational level (never users: OR = 2.7; p < 0.01; OR = 2.7; p < 0.05; ever users: OR = 5.4; OR = 4.4; p < 0.001), those who perceived girls who use e-cigarettes as more attractive (never users: OR = 4.1; p < 0.001; ever users: OR = 2.9; p < 0.01), and secondary school students (ever users: OR = 5.6; p < 0.001) had higher odds of susceptibility to e-cigarette use. The youth who had more money per month were less susceptible to e-cigarette experimentation (OR = 0.4; p < 0.001). A multi-level intervention approach, considering vulnerable populations, is required to prevent the youth from e-cigarette initiation and experimentation.

RESUMO

Background: Characterization of dietary patterns represents a valid and meaningful measure of overall diet quality and nutrient intake. The study aims at evaluating the sociodemographic, lifestyle, environmental, and pregnancy-related determinants of maternal dietary patterns during pregnancy. Methods: The analysis was conducted on a group of pregnant women from the Polish Mother and Child Cohort (REPRO_PL). During the second trimester of pregnancy, 1306 women filled in a modified version of the validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Dietary patterns were estimated using an exploratory factor analysis. Potential dietary determinants were assessed via a questionnaire or biomarker measurements (saliva cotinine level). Results: Two dietary patterns were identified. The Prudent dietary pattern was characterized by high consumption of fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, poultry, and low-fat dairy products, while the Western dietary pattern included high intake of refined grains, processed meat, potatoes, and very low intake of whole grains. Clear sociodemographic, environmental, lifestyle, and pregnancy-related determinants of diet quality were established. Older age (ß = 0.2; p < 0.01), higher educational level (ß = 0.3; p < 0.01), and socioeconomic status (SES) (ß = 0.2; p < 0.01), overweight/obesity before (ß = 0.3; p < 0.01), as well as physical activity during pregnancy (ß = 0.2; p = 0.01) were positive determinants of a healthier diet (increasing Prudent⁻Western difference in dietary pattern scores). On the other hand, parity (ß = -0.2; p = 0.04) and living in small cities (ß = -0.3; p = 0.02) were significantly related to a rather Western dietary pattern. Conclusions: The current study presents evidence on specific factors influencing dietary patterns. They need to be accounted for in educational programs and interventions focused on healthy diet recommendations during pregnancy.

RESUMO

Phosphodiesterase 10A (PDE10A) is a double substrate enzyme that hydrolyzes second messenger molecules such as cyclic-3',5'-adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic-3',5'-guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). Through this process, PDE10A controls intracellular signaling pathways in the mammalian brain and peripheral tissues. Pharmacological, biochemical, and anatomical data suggest that disorders in the second messenger system mediated by PDE10A may contribute to impairments in the central nervous system (CNS) function, including cognitive deficits as well as disturbances of behavior, emotion processing, and movement. This review provides a detailed description of PDE10A and the recent advances in the design of selective PDE10A inhibitors. The results of preclinical studies regarding the potential utility of PDE10A inhibitors for the treatment of CNS-related disorders, such as schizophrenia as well as Huntington's and Parkinson's diseases are also summarized.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic demyelinating disease of the central nervous system, which results a progressive disability. The disease reduces the quality of life of patients, changes the general health perceptions, and also limits performing social roles because of emotional problems. THE AIM: Evaluation of the impact of the methods of rehabilitation to improve the mental health of patients with multiple sclerosis, and also to change individual parameters included in the overall assessment of mental health. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study was conducted in 2010-2014 at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Lodz. The study included 120 patients with multiple sclerosis. Patients were classified into 4 test groups: in the first was used the laser, in the second - laser and magnetostimulation, in the third - kinesiotherapy, and in the fourth - magnetostimulation. The tests were carried out three times. To evaluate the quality of life was used Quality of Life Questionnaire (MSQOL-54), analyzed the overall assessment of mental health. RESULTS: The improvement in a range of parameters, an overall assessment of the quality of mental health has allowed to get a better overall psychological well-being. ,There was oserved a statistically significant difference at the level of p<0.001 between groups in 4/5 investigated parameters, statistically significant differences weren't obserwed at the evaluation of cognitive functions. The greatest improvement was observed in Group II and Group IV. CONCLUSIONS: In the examination it was confirmed an effectiveness of physical treatment, such a the laser radiation and magnetostimulation. Synergism of both methods in their biological activity, allows for evoke of hysteresis fenomenon, resulting in the maintenance of the treatment effects after cessation of rehabilitation. Applying the classical kinesiotherapy only doesn't allow to get long-term effects.

RESUMO

Osteoarthritis is a chronic disease in which the pathological processes start from the catabolism of cartilage extracellular matrix and next extend on the whole joint. Therefore, it is important to diagnose the disease and determining treatment, selecting individually for each patient. The main health problems presents by every patients is pain, which decreases the everyday functioning and quality of life. The paper presents the definition of the disease and new therapeutic methods which improve the quality of life, as well as reduce intensity of pain.

RESUMO

Phosphodiesterase 7 (PDE7) is an intracellular enzyme that specifically hydrolyzes the second messenger, cyclic-3',5'-adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), into inactive noncyclic nucleotide, 5'-AMP. To date, many structurally diverse compounds with PDE7 inhibitory properties have been described, including selective PDE7 inhibitors, dual PDE4/PDE7, PDE7/PDE8, and PDE7/GSK-3 inhibitors, and non-selective PDE inhibitors with high affinity for PDE7. Inhibitors of PDE7 have provided beneficial effects in animal models of inflammatory and neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and many others. This review is a comprehensive summary of the current state-of-the-art in the field of design and synthesis of PDE7 inhibitors, their physicochemical properties, biological evaluation, and structure-activity relationships as well as it highlights the updated evidence for a potential therapeutic utility of these compounds. Moreover, new approaches to obtain more effective and safer PDE7 inhibitors than those available now are presented.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: Multiple sclerosis is one of the most common demyelinating disease of the CNS connected with the autoimmune action. The effect of the disease is progressive disability, and one of the symptoms is pain. In relieving pain in the course of MS physical procedures and exercises of physiotherapy are used. AIM: The aim of the study was assessment of the pain in patients with the multiple sclerosis after applying laser radiation, magnetostimulation and kinesiotherapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The studied material was consisted of 120 patients with multiple sclerosis of both sexes (82 women and 38 men) aged 21-81 years. Patients were randomly divided into 4 treatment groups and the assesment was performed three times. In the first group laser therapy, in the group II laser and magnetostimulation, in the third group kinesiotherapy, in the fourth group magnetostimulation was used. The same program of physiotherapy in all groups was used. All patients were performed the following tests to assess of the pain: The Laitinen Modified Questionnaire Indicators of Pain of and the Visual- Analogue Scale (VAS). RESULTS: In all treatment groups was observed tends to decrease a result of a point in The Laitinen Modified Questionnaire Indicators of Pain and the Visual-Analogue Scale (VAS). Correlation between groups demonstrated statistically significant result on the level p<0.05 in the group where the laser treatment was applied towards group II assessed with parameter of the Questionnaire of Pain according to Laitinen, as well as towards group II and III assessed with parameter - of the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The good result, i.e. the reduction of the spot value, after the III examination towards the preliminary examination were got in the group II. CONCLUSIONS: Laser radiation is an effective method which has an analgesisc action. The combination of laser radiation and magnetostimulation reduces pain in patients with multiple sclerosis, and also allows to maintain a therapeutic effect even after the cessation of the application of these procedures, which indicates the possibility to elicitation the biological phenomenon of hysteresis in these methods.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Multiple sclerosis is one of the demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system. The biggest problem of patients affected by this disease are physical limitations which force many times to changes in employment and dependent on their families. The progressive disability significantly reduces the quality of life of patients with MS. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study involved 120 patients with multiple sclerosis at the age of 21 - 81 years. Patients were divided into four groups, and the test was performed three times. In the first group was used laser therapy, group II laser and magnetostimulation, in the third group kinesiotherapy in the fourth group magnetostimulation. In all patients MSQOL (Quality of Life Questionnaire-54) was carried out, this survey analyzed overall assessment of physical health. RESULTS: In all test groups was observed tends to decrease as a result of a point in Quality of Life Questionnaire MSQOL-54 and continuation in this relationship even after cessation of use of these therapies. The correlation between the two groups showed a statistically significant result at the level of p <0.001 in the group I and II in relation to group III and IV. CONCLUSIONS: Synergic action of laser radiation and magnetic stimulation, causing a plurality of changes at the cellular and tissue level, has a beneficial effect on improving functional status, and thereby improves the quality of life of patients with multiple sclerosis. Thanks to physical therapy, it is possible to achieve long-term effects of therapy, which proves the biological hysteresis phenomenon. Such results can not be achieved with using monotherapy only - by kinesiotherapy.

RESUMO

One of the main problems related to chromatography of peptides concerns adverse interactions of their strong basic groups with free silanol groups of the silica based stationary phase. Influence of type and concentration of ion-pairing regents on peptide retention in reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) systems has been discussed before. Here we present influence of these mobile phase additives on retention of some peptide standards in high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) systems with C18 silica-based adsorbents. We prove, that due to different characteristic of adsorbents used in both techniques (RP HPLC and HPTLC), influence of ion-pairing reagents on retention of basic and/or amphoteric compounds also may be quite different. C18 silica-based HPTLC adsorbents provide more complex mechanism of retention and should be rather considered as mixed-mode adsorbents.
