RESUMO

PURPOSE: Whole-body silicon photomultiplier positron emission tomography (WB SiPM PET) could be used to diagnose breast cancer spread before lumpectomy. We aimed to investigate the method of measuring the tumor size by WB SiPM PET as a basis for diagnosing breast cancer spread in the breast. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 35 breast cancer lesions in 32 patients who underwent WB SiPM PET/CT in the prone position as preoperative breast cancer examinations from September 2020 to March 2022. In all cases, a 20-mm spherical VOI was placed in the normal mammary gland to measure the mean standardised uptake value (SUVmean) and the standard deviation (SD) of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake. We prepared four types of candidates (SUVmean + 2 SD, SUVmean + 3 SD, 1.5 SUVmean + 2 SD, 1.5 SUVmean + 3 SD) for thresholds for delineating tumor contours on PET images. On the semiautomatic viewer soft, the maximum tumor sizes were measured at each of the four thresholds and compared with the pathological tumor sizes, including the extensive intraductal component (EIC). RESULTS: The lesion detection sensitivity was 97% for WB SiPM PET. PET detected 34 lesions, excluding 4-mm ductal carcinomas in situ (DCIS). PET measurements at the '1.5 SUVmean + 2 SD' threshold demonstrated values closest to the pathological tumor sizes, including EIC. Moreover, '1.5 SUVmean + 2 SD' had the highest concordance (63%). CONCLUSIONS: The study demonstrated that among various PET thresholds, the '1.5 SUVmean + 2 SD' threshold exhibited the best performance. However, even with this threshold, the concordance rate was limited to only 63%.

Choosing the optimal side for cochlear implantation (CI) remains a major challenge because of the lack of evidence. We investigated the choice of the surgery side for CI (i.e., the better- or poorer-hearing ear) in patients with asymmetric hearing. Audiological records of 74 adults with a unilateral hearing aid who had undergone surgery at Okayama University Hospital were reviewed. The definition of 'better-hearing ear' was the aided ear, and the unaided ear was considered the poorer-hearing ear. We performed a multiple regression analysis to identify potential predictors of speech recognition performance after unilateral CI in the patients. Fifty-two patients underwent CI in the poorer-hearing ear. The post-Ci bimodal hearing rate was far higher in the poorer-ear group (77.8% vs. 22.2%). A multivariate analysis revealed that prelingual hearing loss and the patient's age at CI significantly affected the speech recognition outcome (beta coefficients: 24.6 and -0.33, 95% confidence intervals [11.75-37.45] and [-0.58 to -0.09], respectively), but the CI surgery side did not (-6.76, [-14.92-1.39]). Unilateral CI in the poorer-hearing ear may therefore be a reasonable choice for adult patients with postlingual severe hearing loss, providing a greater opportunity for postoperative bimodal hearing.

We present a case of a 35-year-old woman with breast cancer in lactation 3 months after childbirth, in which a lactation inhibitor was useful for 18F-FDG PET/CT examination. Via ultrasonography and biopsy with histopathology, we diagnosed the lesion in the upper region of the left breast as invasive ductal carcinoma. She stopped breastfeeding and was administered cabergoline to suppress lactation. Two days after the administration, 18F-FDG PET/CT revealed segmental uptake (10 cm in diameter) and no lactation-related uptakes. Dynamic MRI also revealed a segmental enhancement of the same size as 18F-FDG PET/CT. The lactation inhibitor was useful to delineate the extent of the lesion during the 18F-FDG PET/CT examination.

BACKGROUND: Histological evaluation of lymph node is crucial for the definitive diagnosis of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD). However, lymph node biopsy under local anesthesia is often difficult in pediatric patients. OBJECTIVES: We evaluated cytological findings for pediatric patients with prolonged cervical lymphadenitis clinically suggestive of KFD and investigated the clinical characteristics of patients diagnosed with KFD by fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). METHODS: This retrospective clinical study included 58 Japanese pediatric patients with cervical lymphadenitis who underwent FNAC. RESULTS: Cytological diagnosis was KFD for 22 and suspicion of KFD for 11 patients. The remaining 25 patients were diagnosed with non-specific lymphadenitis (NSL). Tenderness was independently associated with a higher frequency of both KFD in narrow and broad senses, compared with NSL (p = .009; p = .038). The percentage of patients who underwent FNAC within 28 days from symptom onset tended to be higher among patients with KFD in a narrow sense than those with NSL (p = .052). CONCLUSION: This study indicated that the period from symptom onset to FNAC (<28 days) and the symptom of tenderness were associated with the cytological diagnosis of KFD.

Mutations in the OTOF gene are a common cause of hereditary hearing loss and the main cause of auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD). Although it is reported that most of the patients with OTOF mutations have stable, congenital or prelingual onset severe-to-profound hearing loss, some patients show atypical clinical phenotypes, and the genotype-phenotype correlation in patients with OTOF mutations is not yet fully understood. In this study, we aimed to reveal detailed clinical characteristics of OTOF-related hearing loss patients and the genotype-phenotype correlation. Detailed clinical information was available for 64 patients in our database who were diagnosed with OTOF-related hearing loss. As reported previously, most of the patients (90.6%) showed a "typical" phenotype; prelingual and severe-to-profound hearing loss. Forty-seven patients (73.4%) underwent cochlear implantation surgery and showed successful outcomes; approximately 85-90% of the patients showed a hearing level of 20-39 dB with cochlear implant and a Categories of Auditory Performance (CAP) scale level 6 or better. Although truncating mutations and p.Arg1939Gln were clearly related to severe phenotype, almost half of the patients with one or more non-truncating mutations showed mild-to-moderate hearing loss. Notably, patients with p.His513Arg, p.Ile1573Thr and p.Glu1910Lys showed "true" auditory neuropathy-like clinical characteristics. In this study, we have clarified genotype-phenotype correlation and efficacy of cochlear implantation for OTOF-related hearing loss patients in the biggest cohort studied to date. We believe that the clinical characteristics and genotype-phenotype correlation found in this study will support preoperative counseling and appropriate intervention for OTOF-related hearing loss patients.

BACKGROUND: The procoagulant state in cancer increases the thrombotic risk, and underlying cancer could affect treatment strategies and outcomes in patients with ischemic stroke. However, the histopathological characteristics of retrieved thrombi in patients with cancer have not been well studied. This study aimed to assess the histopathological difference between thrombi in patients with and without cancer. METHODS: We studied consecutive patients with acute major cerebral artery occlusion who were treated with endovascular therapy between October 2010 and December 2016 in our single-center registry. The retrieved thrombi were histopathologically investigated with hematoxylin and eosin and Masson's trichrome staining. The organization and proportions of erythrocyte and fibrin/platelet components were studied using a lattice composed of 10×10 squares. RESULTS: Of the 180 patients studied, 17 (8 women, age 76.5±11.5 years) had cancer and 163 (69 women, age 74.1±11.2 years) did not. Those with cancer had a higher proportion of fibrin/platelets (56.6±27.4% vs 40.1±23.9%, p=0.008), a smaller proportion of erythrocytes (42.1±28.3% vs 57.5±25.1%, p=0.019), and higher serum D-dimer levels (5.9±8.2 vs 2.4±4.3 mg/dL, p=0.005) compared with the non-cancer cases. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed the cut-off ratio of fibrin/platelet components related to cancer was 55.7% with a sensitivity of 74.8%, specificity 58.8% and area under the curve (AUC) value of 0.67 (95% CI 0.53 to 0.81), and the cut-off ratio of erythrocyte components was 44.7% with a sensitivity of 71.2%, specificity 58.9% and AUC value of 0.66 (95% CI 0.51 to 0.80). CONCLUSIONS: Thromboemboli of major cerebral arteries in patients with cancer were mainly composed of fibrin/platelet-rich components.

OBJECTIVES: Metformin is a known therapeutic agent for diabetes. Recently, several reports suggested the possibility of improvement in autoimmune disease and malignancy conditions through the effect of metformin on the immune system. Although there have been reports on the therapeutic effects of metformin on mouse models of collagen-induced arthritis, simulating human rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the effect of metformin on human RA remains unknown. Therefore, we investigated the inhibitory effect of metformin on the pathogenesis of human RA in vitro. METHODS: Osteoclastogenesis was evaluated with or without metformin. through tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase staining, osteoclast-specific enzyme expression analysis, and a bone resorption assay. Human fibroblast-like synoviocyte MH7A cells were stimulated with TNF-α, and the expression of proinflammatory cytokines and protease and growth factor genes was evaluated with or without metformin. Metformin has been used to evaluate their potential modulatory effects on cells treated with TNF-α. Moreover, we examined angiogenesis by performing a tube formation assay using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) with or without metformin. RESULTS: Osteoclastogenesis was suppressed in the presence of metformin, and the expression of osteoclast-specific genes was reduced. The TNF-α-induced expression of inflammatory cytokines and protease and growth factor genes in MH7A cells was downregulated by metformin. Additionally, the induced formation of tubular networks in HUVECs was also disrupted following treatment with metformin. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that metformin might improve the pathogenesis of RA, including joint inflammation and destruction. Thus, metformin might be utilised as a potential therapeutic agent in the treatment of RA.

OBJECTIVES: Sialolipoma has been classified as a benign soft tissue lesion in the 2017 World Health Organization classification of head and neck tumors. To our knowledge, only one case of laryngeal sialolipoma has been reported in the English literature. We conducted a retrospective study to identify clinical characteristics of supraglottic sialolipoma-like lesion and differentiate it from other supraglottic subepithelial masses. METHODS: Medical records of 16 patients with supraglottic subepithelial benign mass lesions who underwent histological evaluation between 2003 and 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Sialolipoma-like lesion was defined as a local finding of a well-circumscribed gross mass with pathological presence of salivary gland-like parenchymal lobules with evenly interspersed adipose tissue. RESULTS: Eight patients showed histological positivity for sialolipoma-like lesion, 3 for amyloidosis, 2 for hemangioma, and 1 each for cyst, lymphoid hyperplasia, and chondrometaplasia. Sialolipoma-like lesion tended to be predominant among men; those affected had a mean age of 52.8 (range, 39-74) years. By contrast, among patients with amyloidosis, the ratio of men to women was 1:2 (100% vs. 33%; p = 0.055). Fiberscopic examination of all patients with sialolipoma-like lesions identified well-circumscribed, yellowish masses, closely resembling local amyloidosis findings. Sialolipoma-like lesion was associated with a significantly higher body-mass index (BMI; 27.4 ± 2.8 kg/m2) than amyloidosis (21.6 ± 1.4 kg/m2; p = 0.014). The transoral approach was used for lesion resection in all patients with sialolipoma-like lesion. No patient experienced postoperative recurrence. CONCLUSION: Laryngeal sialolipoma-like lesion might be more prevalent than was previously reported, and histological examination is important to differentiate it from amyloidosis. Supraglottic sialolipoma-like lesion must be differentially diagnosed in patients with high BMI presenting with well-circumscribed, yellowish supraglottic masses.

Background: Subglottic cancer (SGC) is extremely rare, as most laryngeal cancers are localized to the glottic region. Accordingly, the clinical characteristics of SGC have not been well characterized.Objectives: In the current study, SGCs were clinically evaluated, and the outcomes of radiotherapy (RT) in patients with stage II SGC were assessed.Materials and Methods: Medical data derived from 11 patients with SGC, who were treated at our hospital between 1995 and 2019, were retrospectively reviewed.Results: In our department SGC accounted for 3.9% of the 280 laryngeal cancer patients treated during the study period. At the time of SGC diagnosis, 9 (81.8%) had stage II cancer, 1 had stage III cancer, and 1 had stage IV cancer. Stage II SGC patients treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) showed a significantly higher local control rate (p = .026) and laryngeal dysfunction free rate (p = .026) than those treated with RT alone. Salvage surgery, performed in 4 patients whose disease was not locally controlled with CCRT/RT, was successful in 3 patients.Conclusion: As a treatment strategy for stage II SGC, CCRT is an acceptable initial treatment for laryngeal function and preservation while salvage surgery is effective for recurrence after CCRT/RT treatment.

More than 400 syndromes associated with hearing loss and other symptoms have been described, corresponding to 30% of cases of hereditary hearing loss. In this study we aimed to clarify the mutation spectrum of syndromic hearing loss patients in Japan by using next-generation sequencing analysis with a multiple syndromic targeted resequencing panel (36 target genes). We analyzed single nucleotide variants, small insertions, deletions and copy number variations in the target genes. We enrolled 140 patients with any of 14 syndromes (BOR syndrome, Waardenburg syndrome, osteogenesis imperfecta, spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, Stickler syndrome, CHARGE syndrome, Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome, Pendred syndrome, Klippel-Feil syndrome, Alport syndrome, Norrie disease, Treacher-Collins syndrome, Perrault syndrome and auditory neuropathy with optic atrophy) and identified the causative variants in 56% of the patients. This analysis could identify the causative variants in syndromic hearing loss patients in a short time with a high diagnostic rate. In addition, it was useful for the analysis of the cases who only partially fulfilled the diagnostic criteria.

BACKGROUND: The nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is a critical molecule mediating interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) responses. However, the role of the NLRP3 inflammasome in otitis media has not been fully examined. AIMS/OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to assess the expression of NLRP3, ASC (apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase recruitment domain and a pyrin domain), and caspase-1 in lipopolysaccharide-induced otitis media. MATERIALS AND METHODS: BALB/c mice received a transtympanic injection of either lipopolysaccharide or phosphate-buffered saline. The mice were sacrificed 24 h after injection. Concentrations of IL-1ß, NLRP3, ASC, and caspase-1 in the middle ear effusions were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Temporal bones were processed for histologic examination and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: The transtympanic injection of lipopolysaccharide significantly upregulated levels of IL-1ß, NLRP3, ASC, and caspase-1 in the middle ear as compared with the control mice. The proteins of NLRP3, ASC, and caspase-1 were observed in infiltrating inflammatory cells induced by lipopolysaccharide in the middle ear cavity. CONCLUSIONS AND SIGNIFICANCE: Lipopolysaccharide induces NLRP3 inflammasome components in the middle ear. The NLRP3 inflammasome may play an important role in the pathogenesis of otitis media. Modulation of inflammasome-mediated inflammation may be a novel therapeutic strategy for otitis media.

BACKGROUND: Japan has no official guidelines for do-not-resuscitate (DNR) orders. Therefore, we investigated the effect of DNR orders on physician decision making in relation to performing noncardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and CPR procedures. METHODS: A case-scenario-based questionnaire that included a case of advanced cancer, a case of advanced dementia, and a case of nonadvanced heart failure was administered to physicians. The questions determined whether physicians would perform different non-CPR procedures and CPR procedures in the presence or absence of DNR orders. The number of non-CPR procedures each physician would perform and the number of physicians who would perform each non-CPR and CPR procedure in the absence and presence of DNR ocrders were compared. Physicians from three Japanese municipal acute care hospitals participated. RESULTS: We analyzed 111 of 161 (69%) questionnaires. Physicians would perform significantly fewer non-CPR procedures in the presence of DNR orders than in the absence of DNR orders for all three case scenarios (median [interquartile range] percentages: Case 1: 72% [45%-90%] vs 100% [90%-100%]; Case 2: 55% [36%-72%] vs 91% [63%-100%]; Case 3: 78% [55%-88%] vs 100% [88%-100%]). Fewer physicians would perform non-CPR and CPR procedures in the presence of DNR orders than in the absence of DNR orders. However, considerable numbers of physicians would perform electric shock treatment for ventricular fibrillation in the presence of DNR orders (Case 1: 26%; Case 2: 16%; Case 3: 20%). CONCLUSION: DNR orders affect physician decision making about performing non-CPR procedures. Although some physicians would perform CPR for ventricular fibrillation in the presence of DNR orders, others would not. Therefore, a consensus definition for DNR orders should be developed in Japan, otherwise DNR orders may cause harm.

Modulation of inflammasome-mediated inflammation may be a novel therapeutic strategy for cholesteatoma and chronic otitis media. However, the expression of NLRP3 in the pathogenesis of cholesteatoma and chronic otitis media has not been fully examined. This study sought to assess the expression of NLRP3, ASC (apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase recruitment domain and a pyrin domain), and caspase-1 in middle ear tissues in patients with cholesteatoma or chronic otitis media. METHODS: Middle ear tissue samples were obtained from patients with cholesteatoma or chronic otitis media. Control middle ear samples were collected during cochlear implant surgery of patients without middle ear inflammation. The expression of NLRP3, ASC, and caspase-1 were examined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay and immunohistochemical study. RESULTS: The levels of mRNA of NLRP3, ASC, and caspase-1 were significantly elevated in cholesteatoma and chronic otitis media as compared with that of normal controls. The proteins of NLRP3, ASC, and caspase-1 were observed in infiltrating inflammatory cells in cholesteatoma and chronic otitis media.

The steroidogenic enzyme 21-hydroxylase is necessary for the synthesis of both glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids. 21-hydroxylase is a cytochrome P-450 enzyme and is encoded by the gene CYP21A2. Here we report a 68-year-old phenotypically 'male' but genetically female patient with 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21OHD) and the concomitant virilizing adrenocortical carcinoma. This patient grew up as a male and has not encountered any episodes of adrenal insufficiency without glucocorticoid replacement in his lifetime. A chromosome test at admission, however, identified the 46, XX karyotype, and serum 17-hydroxyprogesterone and urine pregnanetriolone and 11ß-hydroxyandrostendione were all elevated, consistent with 21OHD. Moreover, serum testosterone was 1.90 ng/ml, much higher than the female standard levels, and serum cortisol was 5.7 µg/ml, slightly lower than standard levels. Genetic analysis identified the patient as a heterozygote of the two pathogenic mutations in the CYP21A2 gene: IVS2-13C(A)>G and R356W. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed the presence of left adrenal tumor measuring 6 cm, which was subsequently diagnosed as adrenocortical carcinoma based on the criteria of Weiss. Immunohistochemical analysis of the tumor specimens revealed the expression of various enzymes involved in testosterone production, including 3ß-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase, and 17ß-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. Importantly, the expression of immunoreactive 21-hydroxylase was detected in these tumor cells. The levels of adrenal tumor-derived steroid metabolites were all markedly decreased following the surgery. This is the first report on a virilized 21OHD patient associated with the adrenocortical tumor that produces testosterone. Moreover, the concomitant adrenocortical tumor may ameliorate adrenocortical insufficiency by producing cortisol.

OBJECTIVE: Otitis media is one of the most common infectious diseases, especially in young children. Multiple factors affect the onset or development of otitis media. Human toll-like receptors recognize associated patterns and play a critical role in innate immune mechanisms. Toll-like receptors are considered to be important factors for clearance of infection and resolution of inflammation in otitis media. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the histological expression of toll-like receptor 2, which recognizes many kinds of pathogen-associated molecular patterns, and toll-like receptor 4, which recognizes lipopolysaccharide on Gram-negative bacteria, in tissue samples from patients with chronic otitis media and middle ear cholesteatoma. METHODS: Human middle ear tissue samples from 12 patients with chronic otitis media (n=7) and acquired middle ear cholesteatoma (n=5) were examined. Normal control middle ear samples without any inflammation were also included (n=7). The expressions of toll-like receptors 2 and 4 in middle ear tissues were examined immunohistochemically. RESULTS: Only one normal control middle ear sample showed weak expression of toll-like receptor 2, and toll-like receptor 4 was not observed in all control samples. On the other hand, both toll-like receptors 2 and 4 were markedly expressed in chronic otitis media and cholesteatoma. There was a significant difference between chronic otitis media and normal controls in the expressions of both toll-like receptors. Significant up-regulation of toll-like receptors 2 and 4 was observed in cholesteatoma as compared with control samples. CONCLUSIONS: Toll-like receptors 2 and 4 were strongly expressed in chronic otitis media and middle ear cholesteatoma. These findings suggest that toll-like receptors may play a principal role in human chronic otitis media and cholesteatoma.

Intravenous transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from bone marrow ameliorates functional deficits in rat cerebral infarction models. In this study, MSCs were intravenously administered 6h after right middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) induction in rat. Functional MRI (fMRI) during electrical stimulation of the left forepaw and behavioral testing (treadmill stress test) were carried out at day 1, 4, 7, 14, 21, 28 and 42 following MCAO. In medium infused group (n=20) electrical stimulation of the left forepaw elicited a unilateral (right cortex) activated signal detected by fMRI in the infarcted somatosensory cortex. In the MSC infused animals two fMRI patterns were observed: unilateral (n=17) and bilateral (n=19) activation of sensorimotor cortex. In the MSC group both unilateral and bilateral cortical activated animals displayed significantly improved motor function compared to the medium infused group. However, the bilateral activated pattern in the MSC group showed the greatest functional recovery. Lesion volume as calculated from high intensity signals using T2WI was less in the MSC groups as compared to the medium group, but the lesion volume for the unilateral and bilateral signals in the MSC group was the same. These results suggest that the presence of a bilateral signal in sensorimotor cortex as detected by fMRI was more predictive of improved functional outcome than lesion volume alone.

Perilymphatic fistula (PLF) is defined as an abnormal leakage between perilymph from the labyrinth to the middle ear. Symptoms include hearing loss, tinnitus, and vertigo. The standard mode of PLF detection is intraoperative visualization of perilymph leakage and fistula, which ostensibly confirms the existence of PLF. Other possible methods of diagnosis include confirmation of pneumolabyrinth via diagnostic imaging. Recently, a cochlin-tomoprotein (CTP) detection test has been developed that allows definitive diagnosis of PLF-related hearing loss. We report the case of a 45-year-old man who presented with right-sided tinnitus, hearing loss, and dizziness 30 years after stapes surgery. Middle ear lavage was performed after myringotomy. A preoperative diagnosis of PLF was reached using the CTP detection test. Intraoperative observations included a necrotic long process of the incus, displaced wire piston, and fibrous tissue in the oval window. Perilymph leakage was not evident. The oval window was closed with fascia, and vertigo disappeared within 2 weeks postoperatively. When PLF is suspected after stapes surgery, the CTP detection test can be a useful, highly sensitive, and less invasive method for preoperative diagnosis.

We report 2 cases of primary breast cancer with swelling of the parasternal lymph nodes detected on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) as small parasternal nodules. After neoadjuvant chemotherapy, DWI showed disappearance of one node but a focus of subtle signal hyperintensity in the other. DWI findings correlated with the results of conventional breast contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Using a currently employed linear accelerator, our intent was to inactivate peroxidase/catalase in tumor tissue by the application of hydrogen peroxide, which is degraded to produce oxygen, thus re-oxygenizing the tumor tissue. In this way, we can convert radioresistant tumors into radiosensitive ones. On the basis of this strategy, we previously developed a new enzyme-targeting radiosensitization treatment named KORTUC I, which remarkably enhances the radiotherapeutic effect on various types of superficially exposed and locally advanced malignant neoplasms. Based on our clinical experience using KORTUC I, we also developed a new radiosensitizer containing hydrogen peroxide and sodium hyaluronate for injection into various types of tumors that are not superficially exposed (KORTUC II; described herein). KORTUC II was approved by our local ethics committee for advanced skin cancer, including malignant melanoma, bone/soft tissue malignant neoplasms, breast cancer, and metastatic lymph nodes. A maximum of 6 ml of the agent was injected into tumor tissue one to two times per week under ultrasonographic guidance, just prior to each administration of radiation therapy. Eleven patients, including seven with breast cancer, were enrolled in the KORTUC II trial upon fully informed consent. KORTUC II was well tolerated, with a minimum of adverse effects. Nine of the 11 patients showed a complete response (CR), and no severe complications occurred in any of the 11 patients. This new enzyme-targeting radiosensitization treatment may be indicated for various types of locally advanced neoplasms, including soft tissue neoplasms and breast cancers.
