OBJECTIVE: Isolated spinal aneurysms (ISAs) are rare causes of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), which encompass a highly heterogeneous group of clinical entities with multifarious pathogeneses, clinical characteristics, and treatment strategies. Therefore, knowledge about the ISAs remains inadequate. In this study, the authors present a comprehensive analysis of clinical data associated with ISAs at their institutions to enhance the understanding of this disease. METHODS: Patients with ISAs confirmed by spinal angiography or surgery at the authors' institutions between 2015 and 2022 were included. Data regarding clinical presentation, lesion location, aneurysm morphology, comorbidities, treatment results, and clinical outcomes were reviewed. RESULTS: Seven patients with ISAs were included in the study. Among them, 4 patients (57.1%) experienced severe headache, and 3 patients (42.9%) reported sudden-onset back pain. Additionally, lower-extremity weakness and urinary retention were observed in 2 of these patients (28.6%). Four of the aneurysms exhibited fusiform morphology, whereas the remaining were saccular. All saccular aneurysms in this series were attributed to hemodynamic factors. Conservative treatment was administered to 3 patients, 2 of whom underwent follow-up digital subtraction angiography, which showed spontaneous occlusion of both aneurysms. Four patients ultimately underwent invasive treatments, including 2 who underwent microsurgery and 2 who received endovascular embolization. One patient died of recurrent SAH, while the remaining 6 patients had a favorable prognosis at the latest follow-up assessment. CONCLUSIONS: The morphology of aneurysms may be associated with their etiology. Saccular ISAs are usually caused by pressure due to abnormally increased blood flow, whereas fusiform lesions may be more likely to be secondary to vessel wall damage. The authors found that a saccular spinal aneurysm in young patients with a significant dilated parent artery may be a vestige of spinal cord arteriovenous shunts. ISAs can be managed by surgical, endovascular, or conservative procedures, and the clinical outcome is generally favorable. However, the heterogeneous nature of the disease necessitates personalized treatment decision-making based on specific clinical features of each patient.

AIMS: The study aims to explore new potential treatments for cervical cancer. BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women, causing >250,000 deaths worldwide. Patients with cervical cancer are mainly treated with platinum compounds, which often cause severe toxic reactions. Furthermore, the long-term use of platinum compounds can reduce the sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapy and increase the drug resistance of cervical cancer. Therefore, exploring new treatment options is meaningful for cervical cancer. OBJECTIVE: The present study was to investigate the effect of sildenafil on the growth and epithelial-tomesenchymal transition (EMT) of cervical cancer. METHODS: HeLa and SiHa cells were treated with sildenafil for different durations. Cell viability, clonogenicity, wound healing, and Transwell assays were performed. The levels of transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1), transforming growth factor-ß type I receptor (TßRI), phosphorylated (p-) Smad2 and p-Smad3 in cervical cancer samples were measured. TGF-ß1, Smad2 or Smad3 were overexpressed in HeLa cells, and we measured the expression of EMT marker proteins and the changes in cell viability, colony formation, etc. Finally, HeLa cells were used to establish a nude mouse xenograft model with sildenafil treatment. The survival rate of mice and the tumor size were recorded. RESULTS: High concentrations of sildenafil (1.0-2.0 µM) reduced cell viability, the number of HeLa and SiHa colonies, and the invasion/migration ability of HeLa and SiHa cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. The expression of TGF-ß1, TßRI, p-Smad2 and p-Smad3 was significantly enhanced in cervical cancer samples and cervical cancer cell lines. Sildenafil inhibited the expression of TGF-ß1-induced EMT marker proteins (Snail, vimentin, Twist, E-cadherin and N-cadherin) and p-Smad2/3 in HeLa cells. Overexpression of TGF-ß1, Smad2, and Smad3 reversed the effect of sildenafil on EMT, viability, colony formation, migration, and invasion ability of HeLa cells. In the in vivo study, sildenafil significantly increased mouse survival rates and suppressed xenograft growth. CONCLUSION: Sildenafil inhibits the proliferation, invasion ability, and EMT of human cervical cancer cells by regulating the TGF-ß1/Smad2/3 pathway.

BACKGROUND: Granulomatous lobular mastitis (GLM) is a type of benign chronic inflammatory disease that poses therapeutic challenges to healthcare providers. The diagnosis of GLM relies on tissue biopsy, and incorrect treatment may lead to delayed diagnosis, considerable aesthetic damage, and even mastectomy. CASE SUMMARY: We report the case of a 37-year-old Chinese woman who was lactating and had GLM in both breasts. At the time of treatment, the right breast had a mass of approximately 15 cm × 11 cm, which was hard and had poor mobility. Multiple skin ulcerations and pus spills were also observed on the surface of the breast. The left breast had a mass of about 13 cm × 9 cm, which was hard and had poor mobility. CONCLUSION: Herein, we report a case of bilateral GLM in a lactating woman that was successfully treated with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), without the requirement for surgery or other treatments. Therefore, TCM may have advantages in the nonsurgical treatment of GLM.

BACKGROUND Studies have shown that thiamine intake is associated with cervical cancer, but the relationship between thiamine and HPV infection remains unclear. In the present study, we used the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database to investigate whether HPV infection was associated with thiamine intake. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 13 471 women ages 18-59 years were selected from the NHANES database from 2003 to 2016. Using thiamine intake as the independent variable, HPV infection as the dependent variable, and sociodemographic data and other data as the covariates, we analyzed the relationship between thiamine and HPV infection by conducting a weighted logistic regression model in a cross-sectional research design. RESULTS The two-piecewise linear model indicated the inflection point of thiamine intake was 2.07 mg. On the left side of the inflection point, the difference in the thiamine intake of log2 conversion was related to the difference of 0.82 in HPV infection, which means that the increase of every 1 unit increase in thiamine intake is associated with the decrease of the HPV infection by 18%. On the right side of the inflection point, we did not observe a correlation between HPV infection and thiamine intake. CONCLUSIONS Thiamine intake is negatively correlated with HPV infection. Intake of an appropriate amount of thiamine can prevent HPV infection. The best preventive effect can be achieved when the intake is about 2 mg, and excessive intake will not increase the preventive effect.

To observe the expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 and of the FAK/PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in HSK. Fifty BALB/c mice were infected to establish the model and killed on days 0, 2, 7, 14, and 28. The cornea samples were prepared, respectively. Slit lamp examination, immunofluorescence staining, reverse transcription PCR, and Western blot were used to detect the index. After HSV-1 infection, different degrees of epithelial or stromal damage and corneal opacity were observed. Immunofluorescence staining showed that the expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 at different levels of corneal tissue were observed on the 0d, 2d, 7d, 14d, and 28d. Compared with 0d, the relative expression levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 mRNA at 2d, 7d, 14d, and 28d were significantly increased (all P< 0.05). Compared with 14d, the relative expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 mRNA decreased on the 2d, 7d, and 28d (all P< 0.05). Western blot showed that the protein expressions of p-FAK, p-PI3K, p-Akt, MMP-2, and MMP-9 at 2d, 14d, and 28d were all significantly higher than 0d (all P< 0.05). At 14 d, the expressions of p-FAK, p-PI3K, p-Akt, and MMP-2 were significantly higher than those at 2d, 7d, and 28d (all P< 0.05). The protein expression of FAK, PI3K, and Akt in corneal of mice in each time period had no significant (all P> 0.05). These data suggest that FAK/PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and MMP-2 and MMP-9 may be involved in the development of HSK.

Background: Yanghe Huayan Decoction (YHD), a traditional Chinese medicine, is one of the most common complementary medicine currently used in the treatment of breast cancer (BC). It has been recently linked to suppress precancerous lesion and tumor development. The current study sought to explore the role of YHD on trans-endothelium and angiogenesis of BC. Methods: HER2+ BC cells were treated with YHD, Trastuzumab, or the combination in vitro and in vivo to compare the effects of them on trans-endothelium and angiogenesis features. The present study also investigated the potential molecular mechanism of YHD in inhibiting angiogenesis of BC. Results: YHD significantly suppressed the invasion and angiogenesis of BC cells via elevated pAkt signaling. Administration of YHD in vivo also strikingly repressed angiogenesis in tumor grafts. Conclusion: YHD could partially inhibit and reverse tumorigenesis of BC. It also could inhibit Akt activation and angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo Its effect was superior to trastuzumab. Thus it was suitable for prevention and treatment of BC.

Plasma dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 activity (DPP4a) is inversely associated with left ventricular function in patients with heart failure (HF) or diabetes. However, the association between DPP4a and left ventricular function in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients has not been reported. We studied this association in 584 consecutive STEMI patients at a tertiary referral center from July 2014 to October 2015. DPP4a and plasma N-terminal prohormone of B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels were quantified by enzymatic assays. The median serum NT-proBNP levels were highest in patients of the lowest tertile (T1) of DPP4a compared with that of the highest tertile (T3) (p = 0.028). The STEMI patients in T1 exhibited lower left ventricular systolic function (T1 vs. T3: left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF): 50.13 ± 9.12 vs. 52.85 ± 6.82%, p = 0.001). Multivariate logistic-regression analyses (adjusted for confounding variables) showed that a 1 U/L increase in DPP4a was associated with a decreased incidence of left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) (adjusted odds ratio: 0.90; 95% CI: 0.87-0.94; p < 0.01). In conclusion, low DPP4a is independently associated with LVSD in STEMI patients, which suggests that DPP4 may be involved in the mechanisms of LVSD in STEMI patients.

BACKGROUND: Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4) regulates blood glucose levels and inflammation, and it is also implicated in the pathophysiological process of myocardial infarction (MI). Plasma DPP4 activity (DPP4a) may provide prognostic information regarding outcomes for ST-segment elevation MI (STEMI) patients. METHODS: Blood samples were obtained from 625 consecutively admitted, percutaneous coronary intervention-treated STEMI patients with a mean age of 57 years old. DPP4a was quantified using enzymatic assays. RESULTS: The median follow-up period was 30 months. Multivariate Cox-regression analyses (adjusted for confounding variables) showed that a 1 U/L increase of DPP4a did not associate with risks of major adverse cardiac or cerebrovascular events (MACCE), cardiovascular mortality, MI, heart failure readmission, stroke, non-cardiovascular mortality and repeated revascularization. However, in a subset of 149 diabetic STEMI patients, DPP4a associated with an increased risk of MACCE (HR 1.16; 95% CI 1.04-1.30; p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: DPP4a did not associate with cardiovascular events and non-cardiovascular mortality in non-diabetic STEMI patients. However, DPP4a may be associated with future MACCE in diabetic STEMI patients. Trial registration NCT03046576, registered on 5 February, 2017, retrospectively registered.

BACKGROUND: Herbal quality is strongly influenced by harvest time. It is therefore one of crucial factors that should be well respected by herbal producers when optimizing cultivation techniques, so that to obtain herbal products of high quality. In this work, we paid attention on one of common used Chinese herbals, Cyathula officinalis Kuan. According to previous studies, its quality may be related with growth years because of the variation of several main bioactive components in different growth years. However, information about the whole chemical composition is still scarce, which may jointly determine the herbal quality. METHODS: Cyathula officinalis samples were collected in 1-4 growth years after sowing. To obtain a global insight on chemical profile of herbs, we applied a metabolomics approach based on gas chromatography-mass spectrum. Analysis of variance, principal component analysis, partial least squares discriminant analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis were combined to explore the significant difference in different growth years. RESULTS: 166 metabolites were identified by using gas chromatography-mass spectrum method. 63 metabolites showed significant change in different growth years in terms of analysis of variance. Those metabolites then were grouped into 4 classes by hierarchical cluster analysis, characterizing the samples of different growth ages. Samples harvested in the earliest years (1-2) were obviously differ with the latest years (3-4) as reported by principal component analysis. Further, partial least squares discriminant analysis revealed the detail difference in each growth year. Gluconic acid, xylitol, glutaric acid, pipecolinic acid, ribonic acid, mannose, oxalic acid, digalacturonic acid, lactic acid, 2-deoxyerythritol, acetol, 3-hydroxybutyric acid, citramalic acid, N-carbamylglutamate, and cellobiose are the main 15 discrimination metabolites between different growth years. CONCLUSION: Harvest time should be well considered when producing C. officinalis. In order to boost the consistency of herbal quality, C. officinalis is recommended to harvest in 4th growth year. The method of GC-MS combined with multivariate analysis was a powerful tool to evaluate the herbal quality.

Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4) is an important regulator of incretins and inflammation, and it is involved in the pathophysiological process of myocardial infarction (MI). This study investigated the role of plasma DPP4 activity (DPP4a) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who had undergone percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We recruited 747 consecutive PCI-treated STEMI patients from a tertiary referral center from January 2014 to October 2015. The outcomes of interest were the rates of no-reflow, in-hospital major adverse cardiac or cerebrovascular events (iMACCE), in-hospital complications (IHC) and in-hospital major bleeding. The DPP4a was lower in STEMI patients compared with the controls (p < 0.0001). Multivariate logistic-regression analyses (adjusted for confounding variables) showed that a 1 U/L increase in DPP4a was associated with an increased rate of no-reflow events (odds ratio [OR]: 1.07; 95% CI: 1.02-1.11; p < 0.01) and a decreased rate of major bleeding events (OR: 0.90; 95% CI: 0.82-0.98; p = 0.02). There were no associations between DPP4a and either iMACCE or IHC. In conclusions, high levels of DPP4a are independently associated with an increased rate of no-reflow events and a decreased rate of major bleeding events in PCT-treated STEMI patients.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of Yanghe Huayan Decoction (YHD, a representative recipe for warming yang mass dissipating) in inhibiting precancerosis of breast cancer (PBC) and on the protein and mRNA expression of ki67. METHODS: The PBC rat model was established by dimethylbenzanthracene (DMBA), and 9 weeks later rats were randomly divided into the blank control group, the model group, the YHD group, the Sanjie Huatan Decoction group (SHD), the Pingxiao Tablet group (PT), and the tamoxifen group. Rats in the model group were administered with water by gastrogavage. Rats in the YHD group received YHD (deglued antler powder 12 g, prepared rhizome of rehmannia 9 g, cassia bark 6 g, white mustard seed 3 g, zedoary root 12 g, appendiculate cremastra pseudobulb 15 g, chekiang fritillary bulb 9 g, licorice root 6 g) at the daily dose of 7.2 g/kg by gastrogavage. Rats in the SHD group received SHD (oldenlandia diffusa 15 g, Scutellaria Barbata 15 g, Trichosanthes Kirilowii 15 g, pinellia 9 g) at the daily dose of 5.4 g/kg by gastrogavage. Rats in the PT group received PT at the daily dose of 144 mg/kg by gastrogavage. Those in the tamoxifen group received tamoxifen at the daily dose of 4 mg/kg by gastrogavage. Pathomorphological changes of the breast tissue were observed by HE staining. The positive rate and the gray value of ki67 expression were detected by immunohistochemical assay. And the expression of ki67 mRNA was detected by q-PCR. RESULTS: Compared with the model group, the general hyperplasia and the occurrence rate of precancerous lesion were higher and the occurrence rate of invasive carcinoma was lower in each treatment group (P < 0.05). Except the SHD group, the intensity of ki67 grey value increased in each treatment group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). Except the PT group, the positive rate of ki67 and mRNA expression of ki67 increased in the rest treatment groups (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). Compared with the YHD group, there was no statistical difference in the occurrence rate of infiltration or the occurrence rate of precancerous lesion (P > 0.05). The positive rate of ki67 expression and mRNA expression of ki67 increased in the PT group, showing statistical difference (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: YHD could partially inhibit and reverse canceration of breast cancer. It also could inhibit ki67 protein and mRNA expression. Its effect was similar to tamoxifen and superior to PT. So it was suitable for prevention and treatment of precancerous lesion of breast cancer.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness of decompression as the primary treatment of odontogenic cystic lesions of the jaw involving factors that affect relative shrinking speed and bone regeneration. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 32 patients with odontogenic cystic lesions of the jaw underwent decompression with customized thermoplastic resin stents. Clinical examinations and pre- and postdecompression panoramic radiographs were analyzed. RESULTS: The mean relative speed of shrinkage of radicular cysts (RCs; 3.37 cm(2)/month) was faster than those of keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOTs; 2.87 cm(2)/month) and unicystic ameloblastomas (UABs; 2.71 cm(2)/month). The relative shrinking size increased linearly in a time-dependent manner for KCOTs (r = 0.849, P < .001), RCs (r = 0.681, P = .319), and UABs (r = 0.146, P = .730); a similar relation was detected between the primary radiolucent area of cystic lesions before decompression and relative shrinking speed after decompression in KCOTs (r = 0.481, P = .032), RCs (r = 0.260, P = .673), and UABs (r = 0.370, P = .366), but patient age did not affect the relative speed of shrinkage (P > .05). Furthermore, the increase in bone density was more significant in RCs than in KCOTs (P = .026) and UABs (P = .012) after decompression. CONCLUSION: Decompression was effective in reducing odontogenic cystic lesions of the jaw and increasing bone density. For aggressive lesions, secondary definitive surgery was necessary.

AIM: To study the effects of Claulansine F (Clau F), a carbazole alkaloid isolated from the stem of Clausena lansium (Lour) Skeels, on neuritogenesis of PC12 cells, and to elucidate the mechanism of action. METHODS: Neuritogenesis of PC12 cells was quantified under an inverted microscope. Expression of the neurite outgrowth marker GAP-43 was detected using immunofluorescence. GAP-43 transcription was measured using RT-PCR. Cell viability was evaluated with MTT assay. The levels of phosphor-ERK1/2, phosphor-CREB, phosphor-AKT and acetylate-p53 in the cells were examined using Western blotting analyses. RESULTS: Clau F (10-100 µmol/L) significantly increased the percentage of PC12 cells bearing neurites. Clau F markedly increased the expression of GAP-43 in the cells. The efficiency of Clau F (10 µmol/L) in increasing neuritogenesis and GAP-43 expression was comparable to that of nerve growth factor (50 ng/mL). In addition, Clau F completely blocked the proliferation of PC12 cells within 7 d of incubation, whereas it did not cause cell death in cultured rat cortical neurons. Treatment of PC12 cells with Clau F activated both ERK and AKT signaling pathways. Co-treatment of PC12 cells with the specific ERK inhibitor PD98059, but not the specific PI3K inhibitor LY294002, blocked Clau F-induced neuritogenesis and GAP-43 upregulation. CONCLUSION: Clau F promotes neuritogenesis in PC12 cells specifically via activation of the ERK signaling pathway.

To observe the effect of various doses of oil of Piper longum unsaponifiable matter (OPUM) to cholesterol gallstones in experimental mice. C57BL/6 mice (n = 60) were randomly divided into 6 groups: control group, model group, OPUM (15, 30 and 60 mg x kg(-1)) group and ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA, 60 mg x kg(-1)) group, administered for 10 weeks. The level of serum lipid and liver function enzymes were tested. The gallbladder was removed and bile was obtained by centrifugation. Next, the levels of the bile total cholesterol (TC), phospholipid (PL) and bile acid (TBA) were measured. The indicators of lipid peroxidation were determined and cholesterol saturation index (CSI) was calculated. The liver histological changes were observed by HE staining. The results showed that serum TC, TG (triglycerides) and AST (aspartate transaminase) contents, gallbladder cholesterol crystallization and CSI increased significantly (P < 0.05). In addition, the activity of SOD decreased significantly and MDA content increased significantly in liver (P < 0.05). HE staining results showed that the hepatic cord disorder and intracellular lipid droplets increased significantly. All results indicate that lithogenic diet lead to the formation of cholesterol gallstones. In OPUM (30 and 60 mg x kg(-1)) group, serum TC, TG and AST content, gallbladder cholesterol crystallization and CSI decreased significantly, the activity of SOD increased significantly and MDA content decreased significantly. HE staining results showed that OPUM can improve the morphology of liver cell, reduce the degree of hepatic cord disorders and restore the cell morphology close to normal. The cause of OPUM prevents cholesterol gallstone formation maybe due to protect the integrity of the liver cells, lower CSI, and reduce cholesterol crystal formation and hence prevent cholesterol gallstone formation.

AIMS: We investigated the usefulness of diffusion tensor tractography (DTT) for differentiating between histological pathologies and evaluating white matter (WM) damage resulting from brain tumors. We also sought to categorize the appearance of brain tumor-related WM tract changes. METHODS: A total of 18 inpatients with intracranial neoplasms were enrolled. MRI examinations were performed at 3 T using an 8-channel phased array coil. DTT was reconstruction from the raw data of diffusion tensor imaging. WM tract-based analysis of the mean diffusivity (MD), eigenvalues (λ(1) , λ(2) , λ(3) ), and fractional anisotropy (FA) was performed by the manual placement of regions of interest (ROIs) on the color-coded FA maps using DTIStudio software. The axial diffusivity (DA, namely λ(1) ) and the tensor shape (Cl, namely (λ(1) -λ(2) )/3 (λ)) were also compared between groups. P values <0.05 were considered statistically significant. RESULTS: In cases of low-grade glioma (LGG), the tracts adjacent to the tumors displayed the highest levels of invasion. Tract disruption was mainly observed in cases of high-grade glioma (HGG). We found significant differences regarding the FA, MD, DA, and radial diffusivity between ROIs in patients with LGG or HGG. There were also significant differences in DA and tensor shape (Cl) between patients with LGG and HGG. CONCLUSION: Axial diffusivity and Cl may be useful early markers for differentiating between LGG and HGG.

Inflammation is an important contributing mechanism in ischemic brain injury. The current study elucidates a previously unexplored role of Fas ligand (FasL) in post-stroke inflammatory responses that is independent of its well-known effect in triggering apoptosis. Focal cerebral ischemia was induced for 2 h by right middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in FasL mutant (gld) and wild-type mice. FasL mutation profoundly reduced brain damage and improved neurological performance from 6 to 72 h after ischemic stroke. The production of inflammatory cytokines in the brain was attenuated in gld mice after ischemia in the absence of dramatic change in inflammatory cell apoptosis. FasL mutation attenuated the recruitment of peripheral inflammatory cells (neutrophil) and inhibited the activation of residential glial cells (microglia and astrocyte). FasL mutation reduced CD8(+) T cells and turned the Th1/Th2 balance towards Th2 in the brain and peripheral blood after cerebral ischemia. In contrast to cerebral ischemia, the molecular and cellular inflammatory changes induced by intracerebroventricular injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) were also attenuated in gld mice. Moreover, the soluble FasL (sFasL) and phospho-SAPK/JNK were decreased in gld mice, suggesting that the inflammatory role of FasL in experimental stroke might relate to sFasL and the c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathway. Taken together, our data suggest a novel role of FasL in the damaging inflammatory responses associated with cerebral ischemia. Neutralization of FasL may be a novel therapeutic strategy to suppress post-stroke inflammation and improve the long-term outcomes of stroke.

Atrial fibrillation is the most frequent form of atrial arrhythmias in adults with congenital heart disease. Some serious complications are related with the presence of atrial fibrillation after surgery. Because of the complexity and the risk of bleeding, the Maze III procedure has been largely replaced by alternative energy sources. Our experience in using irrigated monopolar radiofrequency ablation to treat atrial fibrillation in adults with congenital heart disease is reported. Seven patients with congenital heart disease and atrial fibrillation underwent irrigated monopolar radiofrequency ablation. All patients were confirmed in permanent fibrillation preoperatively. Six were adult atrial septal defect patients and one was an adult patent ductus arteriosus patient. All patients survived the procedure and discharged in sinus rhythm. There were no complications related to radiofrequency ablation. The time of ablation ranged from 17 to 22 min (average 19.5 min). Follow-up ranged from 3 to 48 months. One patient with mitral valve replacement (MVR) died of cerebral hemorrhage 13 months after surgery. The last electrocardiogram showed that six patients were in sinus rhythm and one patient in junctional rhythm. Irrigated monopolar radiofrequency ablation is an easy, effective, safe and economic concomitant operation to eliminate atrial fibrillation in adult patients with congenital heart defect and atrial fibrillation.

Prevention and treatment of mammary cancer has been taken into great account recently. "Mutistage developing mode" provides the basis for interrupting and reversing precancerous changes. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has shown effects on precancerous changes through inhibiting angiogenesis, promoting apoptosis, modulating endocrine system and restraining oncogene expression. It was stressed in this review that TCM should study the precancerous change of mammary cancer from the aspects of recognizing the essence of precancerous changes of mammary cancer, formulating the standard of TCM diagnosis and treatment, widening the aim of treatment, and focusing on the mechanism of Chinese herbal medicine in intervening it.
