RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Ligamentoid fibromatosis is a rare borderline tumor that occurs in the muscles, fascia, and aponeurosis. It is a kind of soft tissue tumor of fibrous origin, also known as invasive fibromatosis, desmoid fibroma, neurofibromatosis, etc. The tumor is between benign and malignant tumors and rarely has distant metastasis. Its characteristics are mainly local invasion, destruction and growth and easy recurrence. The World Health Organization defines it as a fibroblast cloning value-added lesion originating from deep soft tissue, which causes local invasion and growth leading to tissue reconstruction, extrusion and destruction of important structures and organs. The incidence rate accounts for 0.03% of all tumors and less than 3% of all soft tissue tumors. Definite diagnosis mainly depends on postoperative pathology. Surgical resection is still the main way to treat the disease, and a variety of nonsurgical treatment methods are auxiliary. Combined treatment can effectively reduce the risk of postoperative recurrence. CASE SUMMARY: The patient is a 57-year-old female. One week ago, she accidentally found a mass in the left upper abdomen while lying flat. There was no abdominal pain and abdominal distention, no fever, no black stool and blood in the stool and no nausea and vomiting. She had a 10-year history of glaucoma on the left side, underwent hysterectomy for uterine fibroids 5 years ago, had no hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, hepatitis or tuberculosis, had no history of smoking and had been drinking for 20 years. CONCLUSION: Accurate preoperative diagnosis is difficult, surgical resection is the main treatment, and a variety of nonsurgical treatment methods are auxiliary. Combined treatment can effectively reduce the risk of postoperative recurrence. The prognosis is still good, and the risk of recurrence of secondary surgery is greatly increased.

RESUMO

Cholinergic disorder, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation play important roles in the pathology of Alzheimer's disease. To explore the healthy potential of the edible seaweed Hizikia fusiforme on this aspect, a functional oil (HFFO) was extracted from this alga and investigated on its constituents by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) in this study. Its anti-Alzheimer's related bioactivities including acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition, antioxidation, and anti-neuroinflammation were evaluated, traced, and simulated by in vitro and in silico methods. GC/MS analysis indicated that HFFO mainly contained arachidonic acid (ARA), 11,14,17-eicosatrienoic acid (ETrA), palmitic acid, phytol, etc. HFFO showed moderate AChE inhibition and antioxidant activity. Bioactivity tracing using commercial standards verified that AChE inhibition of HFFO mainly originated from ARA and ETrA, whereas antioxidant activity mainly from ARA. Lineweaver-Burk plots showed that both ARA and ETrA are noncompetitive AChE inhibitors. A molecular docking study demonstrated low CDOCKER interaction energy of -26.33 kcal/mol for ARA and -43.70 kcal/mol for ETrA when interacting with AChE and multiple interactions in the ARA (or ETrA)-AChE complex. In the anti-neuroinflammatory evaluation, HFFO showed no toxicity toward BV-2 cells at 20 µg/mL and effectively inhibited the production of nitroxide and reduced the level of reactive oxygen species in lipopolysaccharide-induced BV-2 cells. The results indicated that HFFO could be used in functional foods for its anti-Alzheimer's disease-related activities.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the feasibility of the operation of minimal invasive with gallbladder preserved via choledochoscopy. METHODS: From February 1992 to June 2006, there were 760 patients who underwent cholecystolithiasis treated with the minimal invasive operation with gallbladder preserved via choledochoscopy, among which there were 428 males and 332 females, aged from 18 to 81 years old. All cases were diagnosed by ultrasonography and their gallbladder functions were proved normal by the examination of oral cholecystography or ECT before operation. In the operation gallstones were removed from gallbladder completely. RESULTS: There were 612 cases who were followed up for 1-15 years and the follow-up rate was 80.5%. All patients recovered well after operation. The post-operation rate of recurrence of gallstone was 0.49%, 4.39%, 5.83%, 6.60%, 7.21% and 8.38% within the first year, the second year, the third year, the fifth year, the seventh year and the ninth year respectively, rate of recurrence of gallstone were 10.11% within both the tenth and the fifteenth year. CONCLUSIONS: The minimal invasive operation with gallbladder preserved via choledochoscopy is effective to cholecystolithiasis patients whose gallbladder function is normal. It is a feasible operation that preserves the normal functional gallbladder and improves the patients' life quality.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of 64-slice helical CT in screening of coronary artery heart disease among apparently healthy people and to explore the specific operation thereof. METHODS: Toshiba Aquilino 64-slice helical CT machine was used to scan the scope from the tracheal carina to cardio-diaphragmatic plain among 286 apparently healthy persons aged 40 approximately 78, 188 males and 98 females, with at least one risk factor of coronary artery heart disease, after the contrast Iopamidol was injected. The data thus obtained underwent after-finishing screen are with the techniques of volume reconstruction, multiplanar reconstruction, curve planar reconstruction, and 3-D reconstruction so as to demonstrate the abnormalities of coronary artery. Twenty-eight persons with positive findings further underwent coronary angiography. Their results of coronary angiography were compared with those of the results of 64-slice helical CT. RESULTS: 239 of the 1523 branches of coronary artery in the 286 persons were diagnosed as with stenosis of different degrees, 138 being less than by 50%, 62 being by 50% approximately 70%, and 23 being by more than 70%. Twelve of the 28 persons who underwent angiography received coronary stent. CONCLUSION: As a minimally invasive examination, 64-slice helical CT is valuable in early detection of asymptomatic coronary heart disease.

RESUMO

AIM: To identify the distribution of N-acetyltrasferase 2(NAT2) polymorphism in Hebei Han Chinese and the effects of the polymorphism on the development of colorectal cancer. METHODS: We performed a hospital-based case-control study of 237 healthy individuals and 83 colorectal cancer patients of Hebei Han Chinese. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood and cancer tissues. The genotypes of the polymorphisms were assessed by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). RESULTS: There were four NAT2 alleles of WT, M1, M2, and M3 both in the healthy subjects and in the patients, and 10 genotypes of WT/WT, WT/M1, WT/M2, WT/M3, M1/M1, M1/M2, M1/M3, M2/M2, M2/M3, M3/M3. M2 allele was present in 15.61% of healthy subjects and 29.52% of patients (chi(2) = 15.31, P<0.0001), and M3 allele was present in 30.59% of healthy subjects and 16.87% of patients (chi(2) = 25.33, P<0.0001). There were more WT/M2 (chi(2) = 34.42, P<0.0001, odd ratio = 4.99, 95%CI = 2.27-9.38) and less WT/M3 (chi(2) = 3.80, P = 0.03) in the patients than in the healthy subjects. In 70.3% of the patients, there was a difference in NAT2 genotype between their tumors and blood cells. Patients had more WT/M2 (chi(2) = 5.11, P = 0.02) and less M2/M3 (chi(2) = 4.27, P = 0.039) in their blood cells than in the tumors. Furthermore, 53.8% (7/13) of M2/M3 in tumors were from WT/M2 of blood cells. CONCLUSION: There is a possible relationship between the NAT2 polymorphisms and colorectal cancer in Hebei Han Chinese. The genotype WT/M2 may be a risk factor for colorectal cancer.
