Objective: To study and compare the clinical effects of cervical pessary and progesterone for preventing preterm birth in singleton pregnant women with a short cervical length (CL). Methods: This study was a prospective cohort study. A total of 148 pregnant women with CL≤25 mm, as determined by ultrasound examination performed before 28 weeks of pregnancy, were included in the study. All subjects were admitted to West China Second Hospital, Sichuan University between August 2020 and December 2022. According to their treatment plans, the pregnant women were divided into a cervical pessary group (n=55) and a progesterone group (n=93). Spontaneous preterm birth before 37 weeks of pregnancy was defined as the main outcome index. Preterm birth (abortion) or spontaneous preterm birth (abortion) before 37, 34, 32, 30, and 28 weeks of pregnancy, mean extended gestational age, neonatal morbidity, and neonatal mortality were the secondary outcome indicators. The pregnancy outcomes and the neonatal outcomes of the two groups were compared and statistically analyzed. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of preterm birth (including iatrogenic preterm birth, spontaneous preterm birth, and abortion) before 37, 34, 32, 30, and 28 weeks between the cervical pessary group and the progesterone group. When iatrogenic preterm birth was excluded, the incidence of spontaneous preterm birth before 37 weeks was lower in the cervical pessary group (23.6%) than that in the progesterone group (41.9%), with the difference between the two groups being statistically significant (P=0.024). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of spontaneous preterm birth (including miscarriage) before 34, 32, 30, and 28 weeks. There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of neonatal morbidity, the rate of transfer to the neonatal care unit after birth, and the neonatal mortality rate between the two groups. Multivariate logistic analysis showed that treatment with cervical pessary was a protective factor for spontaneous preterm birth before 37 weeks compared to progesterone therapy. Conclusion: Using cervical pessary to prevent spontaneous preterm birth in singleton pregnant women with a short cervical length in the second trimester can significantly reduce the incidence of spontaneous preterm birth before 37 weeks.

Alterations in steroid hormone regulation have been implicated in the etiology and progression of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), with the enzyme cytochrome P450 family 11 subfamily A member 1 (CYP11A1)-a key catalyst in cholesterol side-chain cleavage, prominently expressed in the adrenal glands, ovaries, testes, and placenta-standing at the forefront of these investigations. The potential link between aberrations in placental Cyp11a1 expression and the resultant neurodevelopmental disorders, along with the mechanisms underpinning such associations, remains inadequately delineated. In this study, we employed a placental trophoblast-specific Cyp11a1 Hipp11 (H11) knock-in murine model to dissect the phenotypic manifestations within the placenta and progeny, thereby elucidating the underlying mechanistic pathways. Behavioral analyses revealed a diminution in social interaction capabilities alongside an augmented anxiety phenotype, as evidenced by open field and elevated plus maze assessments; both phenotypes were ameliorated after vitamin D3 supplementation. Electrophysiological assays underscored the augmented inhibition of paired-pulse facilitation, indicating impaired neuroplasticity in Cyp11a1 H11-modified mice. An elevation in progesterone concentrations was noted, alongside a significant upregulation of Th1-related cytokines (IL-6 and TNFα) across the plasma, placental, and frontal cortex-a pathological state mitigable through vitamin D3 intervention. Western blotting revealed a vitamin D-mediated rectification of vitamin D receptor and PGC-1α expression dysregulations. Immunofluorescence assays revealed microglial activation in the knock-in model, which was reversible upon vitamin D3 treatment. In conclusion, Cyp11a1 overexpression in the placenta recapitulated an autism-like phenotype in murine models, and vitamin D3 administration effectively ameliorated the resultant neurobehavioral and neuroinflammatory derangements. This study substantiates the application of Cyp11a1 as a biomarker in prenatal diagnostics and posits that prenatal vitamin D3 supplementation is a viable prophylactic measure against perturbations in steroid hormone metabolism associated with ASD pathogenesis.

OBJECTIVE: Elderly patients with hip fractures are at a greater risk of developing postoperative delirium (POD), which significantly impacts their recovery and overall quality of life. Neuroinflammation is a pathogenic mechanism of POD. Taohong Siwu Decoction (THSWD), known for its ability to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, can effectively reduce inflammation in the nervous system. Therefore, the objective of this article is to provide a comprehensive summary of the clinical efficacy of THSWD in the prevention of POD. Additionally, it aims to investigate the underlying mechanism of THSWD in the prevention and treatment of POD using network pharmacology and molecular docking. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients with intertrochanteric fractures between January 2016 and October 2021. The patients were divided into two groups: the control and THSWD group. We performed a comparative analysis of hemoglobin (HB), albumin (ALB), C-reactive protein (CRP), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and the blood urea nitrogen to creatinine ratio (BCR) on two different time points: the day before surgery (D0) and the third day after surgery (D3). Furthermore, we examined the incidence and duration of delirium, as well as the Harris Hip Score (HHS) at 3 months and 12 months post-surgery. Network pharmacology was employed to identify the primary targets and mechanisms of THSWD in the management of delirium. Molecular docking was employed to confirm the interaction between active ingredients and COX-2. Inflammatory cytokines, including cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-α), were measured using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The cognitive status of the patients was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scoring system. RESULTS: Regardless of whether it is in D0 or D3, THSWD treatment can increase HB levels while decreasing BCR. In D3, the THSWD group demonstrated a significant reduction in the expression of CRP and BUN when compared to the control group. However, there were no significant differences in ABL levels, surgery duration, and blood loss between the two groups. Additionally, THSWD treatment requires fewer blood transfusions and can reduce the incidence and duration of POD. The results of the logistic analysis suggest that both CRP levels and BCR independently contribute to the risk of POD. Network pharmacology analysis indicates that THSWD has the potential to prevent and treat POD possibly through inflammatory pathways such as IL-17 signaling pathways and NF-kappa B signaling pathways. Molecular docking validated the interaction between the active ingredient of THSWD and COX-2. Furthermore, THSWD treatment can reduce the levels of COX-2, IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α, BUN and CRP in the blood of patients with POD, increase HB levels, and enhance MMSE scores. The expression of COX-2 is positively associated with other inflammatory markers (IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α, and CRP), and inversely associated with MMSE. CONCLUSION: THSWD has been found to have a preventive and therapeutic effect on POD in intertrochanteric fracture patients possibly through inflammatory pathways. This effect may be attributed to its ability to increase hemoglobin levels and reduce the levels of certain detrimental factors, such as blood urea nitrogen and inflammatory factors.

OBJECTIVE: Muscle wasting frequently occurs following joint trauma. Previous research has demonstrated that joint distraction in combination with treadmill exercise (TRE) can mitigate intra-articular inflammation and cartilage damage, consequently delaying the advancement of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA). However, the precise mechanism underlying this phenomenon remains unclear. Hence, the purpose of this study was to examine whether the mechanism by which TRE following joint distraction delays the progression of PTOA involves the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α), as well as its impact on muscle wasting. METHODS: Quadriceps samples were collected from patients with osteoarthritis (OA) and normal patients with distal femoral fractures, and the expression of PGC-1α was measured. The hinged external fixator was implanted in the rabbit PTOA model. One week after surgery, a PGC-1α agonist or inhibitor was administered for 4 weeks prior to TRE. Western blot analysis was performed to detect the expression of PGC-1α and Muscle atrophy gene 1 (Atrogin-1). We employed the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique to examine pro-inflammatory factors. Additionally, we utilized quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) to analyze genes associated with cartilage regeneration. Synovial inflammation and cartilage damage were evaluated through hematoxylin-eosin staining. Furthermore, we employed Masson's trichrome staining and Alcian blue staining to analyze cartilage damage. RESULTS: The decreased expression of PGC-1α in skeletal muscle in patients with OA is correlated with the severity of OA. In the rabbit PTOA model, TRE following joint distraction inhibited the expressions of muscle wasting genes, including Atrogin-1 and muscle ring finger 1 (MuRF1), as well as inflammatory factors such as interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in skeletal muscle, potentially through the activation of PGC-1α. Concurrently, the production of IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α, nitric oxide (NO), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the synovial fluid was down-regulated, while the expression of type II collagen (Col2a1), Aggrecan (AGN), SRY-box 9 (SOX9) in the cartilage, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the synovial fluid was up-regulated. Additionally, histological staining results demonstrated that TRE after joint distraction reduced cartilage degeneration, leading to a significant decrease in OARSI scores.TRE following joint distraction could activate PGC-1α, inhibit Atrogin-1 expression in skeletal muscle, and reduce C-telopeptides of type II collagen (CTX-II) in the blood compared to joint distraction alone. CONCLUSION: Following joint distraction, TRE might promote the activation of PGC-1α in skeletal muscle during PTOA progression to exert anti-inflammatory effects in skeletal muscle and joint cavity, thereby inhibiting muscle wasting and promoting cartilage regeneration, making it a potential therapeutic intervention for treating PTOA.

BACKGROUND: Numerous observational studies have investigated the potential link between hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDPs) and the subsequent risks of gynecologic tumors, yet the findings have been inconsistent. In this study, we utilized Mendelian randomization (MR) approach to assess the influence of HDPs on the future risks of ovarian, cervical, endometrial, and breast cancer and uterine fibroids, controlling for confounding factors. METHODS: The genome-wide association studies (GWAS) summary data relevant to HDPs was obtained from the FinnGen databases (10,736 cases and 136,325 controls). Gynecologic tumor outcomes were extracted from the IEU Open GWAS project and UK Biobank (47,690 cases and 1, 092,073 controls). The inverse variance weighted (IVW) approach was selected as the principal method for MR analysis, supplemented by MR-Egger, weighted median, weighted model, simple model methods, MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier (MR-PRESSO) test, and leave-one-out method. Multivariate MR (MVMR) analysis was conducted after adjusting systolic blood pressure (SBP), body mass index (BMI) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). RESULTS: Our univariate MR analysis (UVMR) results revealed no significant relationship between HDPs and the risks of ovarian cancer (odds ratio [OR] = 0.924, p = 0.360), cervical cancer (OR = 1.230, p = 0.738), endometrial cancer (OR = 1.006, p = 0.949), uterine fibroids (OR = 1.155, p = 0.158), and breast cancer (OR = 0.792, p = 0.241) by IVW test. Similar results were observed in gestational hypertension and preeclampsia/eclampsia. Additionally, our study detected neither heterogeneity nor pleiotropy. MVMR analysis also provided no evidence of a causal association between HDPs and common gynecologic tumors after adjusting SBP, BMI, and T2DM. CONCLUSION: We discovered no causal relationship between HDPs and ovarian, cervical, endometrial, breast cancer, and uterine fibroids in European populations. However, present analysis did not explore the effect of HDPs on the subtypes of gynecologic tumors across varied ethnic populations, which may require additional research.

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), pegylated-interferon-α(PEG-IFNα) and long-term nucleos(t)ide analogs (NUCs) are mainly drugs used to treat HBV infection, but the effectiveness is unsatisfactory in different populations, the exploration of novel therapeutic approaches is necessary. RAD51C is associated with DNA damage repair and plays an important role in the development and progression of tumors. Early cDNA microarray results showed that RAD51C expression was significantly increased in HBV-infected HCC cells, however, the relationship between HBV infection and abnormal expression of RAD51C has not been reported. Therefore, we conducted RT-PCR, western blot, Co-immunoprecipitation(Co-IP), and immunofluorescence(IF) to detect HBV-RAD51C interaction in RAD51C overexpression or interfering HCC cells. Our results showed that RAD51C and HBV X protein(HBX) produced a direct interaction in the nucleus, the HBV infection of HCC cells promoted RAD51C expression, and the increased expression of RAD51C promoted HBV replication. This indicated that RAD51C is closely related to the occurrence and development of HCC caused by HBV infection, and may bring a breakthrough in the the prevention and treatment study of HCC.

The current work investigates bioremediation (BIO) and electrokinetic (EK) remediation of crude oil hydrocarbons utilizing the biomass-electrokinetic (BIO-EK) approaches. The use of natural surfactants derived from plant biomass may improve remediation capacity by enhancing the solubility of organic pollutants. Sapindus mukorossi, a natural surfactant producer, was extracted from plant biomass in this study. The crude oil biodegradation efficiency was reported to be 98 %. In nature, FTIR confirms that plant biomass is lipopeptide. GCMS revealed that the crude oil (C7 - C23) was efficiently bio-degraded from lower to higher molecular weight. The application of natural surfactants in electokinetic remediation increased the plant biomass degradation of crude oil polluted soil by 98% compared to electrokinetic 55% in 2 days. Natural surfactant improves hydrocarbon solubilization and accelerates hydrocarbon electro migration to the anodic compartment, as confirmed by the presence of greater total organic content than the electrokinetic. This study proves that BIO-EK compared with a natural surfactant derived from plant biomass may be utilized to improve in situ bioremediation of crude oil polluted soils.

To degrade anthracene, magnetite nanoparticles were produced using a simple co-precipitation process. The fabricated nanoparticles have been analyzed for structural and optical properties. XRD examination revealed that the produced Fe3O4 nanoparticles were cubic phase, having a mean crystallite dimension of 18.84 nm. DLS determined the hydrodynamic diameter of Fe3O4 nanoparticles to be 182 nm. UV-Vis research revealed that Fe3O4 nanoparticles absorb at 390 nm. A peak at 895 cm-1 in the FT-IR study indicated the metal-oxygen connection. The synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticles demonstrated an effective photocatalytic performance towards anthracene degradation and was found to be 86.55%. Furthermore, Fe3O4 nanoparticles showed the highest antimicrobial activity against Bacillus subtilis was 19.43 mm. The present study is the first and foremost study determining the dual role of Fe3O4 nanoparticles towards bioremediation and biomedical applications.

MnO2 nanoparticles have a wide range of applications, including catalytic abilities due to their oxygen reduction potential. Industrial processes and the burning of organic materials released PAHs into the biosphere which have adverse effects on living organisms when continually exposed. In this study, MnO2 nanoparticles were synthesized chemically using sodium thiosulphate as reducing agent. MnO2 nanoparticles were characterized using UV-visible adsorption spectroscopy and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). A X-Ray Diffraction Spectrophotometer (XRD), a Scanning Electron Microscopy - Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analyzer (SEM-EDAX), and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) were used to identify the crystalline nature and particle size of the fabricated MnO2 nanoparticles. Batch adsorption studies were conducted to identify the optimal conditions for better benzene and pyrene adsorption from aqueous solution using MnO2 nanoparticles. They are also effective in degrading benzene and pyrene by batch adsorption as determined by their adsorption isotherms and kinetics.

In ancient times, herbal plants were considered one of the greatest gifts from nature that human beings could receive, and about 80% of these plants have medicinal uses. In traditional medicine, Mentha arvensis, commonly known as mint, has many applications, and in the present study, the mint leaf extract has been used to synthesis nanoparticles using the mint leaf extract as a biosource for the extraction of nanoparticles. In addition to having a wide range of applications in various fields, calcium oxide (CaO) nanoparticles are also considered to be safe for human use. In order to assess the characteristics of the abstracted CaO nanoparticles, UV-visible absorption spectrophotometers, Fourier Transform Infrared spectrophotometers (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEMs), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), and X-ray Diffraction Spectrophotometers (XRDs) were used. By conducting a protein denaturation assay and nitric oxide scavenging assay, mint leaf mediated CaO nanoparticles were evaluated for their therapeutic applications. MTT assays were used to prove that the CaO nanoparticles mediated by mint leaf had anti-cancer properties. By examining the ability of mint leaf mediated CaO nanoparticles to degrade various dyes such as methyl red, methyl orange, and methylene blue, which are the most used azo dyes in textile industries resulting in water contamination, the ability of these nanoparticles to act as a photocatalytic agent was examined.

PURPOSE: Preoperative evaluations of difficult airways are imperative, especially in newborns. The hyomental distance is a reliable index for predicting difficult airways in adults. However, few studies have evaluated the value of the hyomental distance for predicting difficult airways in newborns. It is unclear whether the hyomental distance forecasts a restricted or difficult view when using direct laryngoscopy. We intended to develop an effective system for predicting difficult tracheal intubation in newborns. DESIGN: A prospective observational clinical study. METHODS: Newborns aged 0 to 28 days undergoing oral endotracheal intubation with direct laryngoscopy for elective surgery under general anesthesia were enrolled. The hyomental distance and hyoid level tissue thickness were assessed by ultrasound. Other parameters, such as the mandibular length and sternomental distance, were also evaluated before anesthesia. The glottic structure view under laryngoscopy was graded according to the Cormack-Lehane classification. The patients with Grade 1 and 2 laryngeal views were assigned to Group E. Those with Grade 3 and 4 views were assigned to Group D. FINDINGS: A total of 123 newborns were recruited for our study. The incidence of poor visualization of the larynx during laryngoscopy in our study was 10.6%. The multifactor logistic regression results showed that the hyomental distance was a powerful predictor of difficult laryngoscopy (OR = 0.16, 95% CI 0.03-0.74, P = .019). The curve with the highest sensitivity and specificity and the maximum area under the curve (AUC) was the hyomental distance. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for the hyomental distance suggested that the best cut-off value was less than equal to 2.74 cm, with an AUC of 0.80 (95% CI 0.64-0.95). CONCLUSIONS: It is noninvasive and feasible to accurately measure the hyomental distance with ultrasound in newborns, and the results are reliable. We believe that the hyomental distance measured with ultrasound could be used as a marker for predicting difficult laryngoscopy in newborns.

Injury to the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) is a common acute injury of the lateral foot ligament. Untimely and improper treatment significantly affects the quality of life and rehabilitation progress of patients. The purpose of this paper is to review the anatomy and the current methods of diagnosis and treatment of acute injury to the ATFL. The clinical manifestations of acute injury to the ATFL include pain, swelling, and dysfunction. At present, non-surgical treatment is the first choice for acute injury of the ATFL. The standard treatment strategy involves the "peace and love" principle. After initial treatment in the acute phase, personalized rehabilitation training programs can be followed. These may involve proprioception training, muscle training, and functional exercise to restore limb coordination and muscle strength. Static stretching and other techniques to loosen joints, acupuncture, moxibustion massage, and other traditional medical treatments can relieve pain, restore range of motion, and prevent joint stiffness. If the non-surgical treatment is not ideal or fails, surgical treatment is feasible. Currently, arthroscopic anatomical repair or anatomical reconstruction surgery is commonly used in clinical practice. Although open Broström surgery provides good results, the modified arthroscopic Broström surgery has many advantages, such as less trauma, rapid pain relief, rapid postoperative recovery, and fewer complications, and is more popular with patients. In general, when treating acute injury to the ATFL, treatment management and methods should be timely and reasonably arranged according to the specific injury scenario and attention should be paid to the timely combination of multiple therapies to achieve the best treatment results.

Background and objectives: The routine application of lymphadenectomy remains a controversial part of surgical staging in malignant ovarian germ-cell tumor (MOGCT). Thus, studies are needed to explore the prognostic significance of lymphadenectomy in MOGCT. The goal of this retrospective study was to report the clinical outcomes of lymph node dissection (LND) and non-LND in MOGCT surgeries. Measurements and main results: A total of 340 cases of MOGCTs were included: 143 patients (42.1%) had LND and 197 (57.9%) had no LND. The OS rates at 5 years in the LND and non-LND group were 99.3% vs. 100%, respectively. The DFS rates at 5 years in the LND and non-LND group were 88.8% vs. 88.3%. Forty-three patients (12.6%) were successfully pregnant during the postoperative follow-up. There were 44 recurrences (12.9%) and six deaths (1.8%). Stage was an independent prognostic factor for DFS in the multivariate analysis. Pathology was reported as an independent prognostic factor associated with OS in the multivariate analysis. Conclusion: Lymphadenectomy had no significant influence on the OS (P=0.621) or disease-free survival rate (P=0.332) of patients with MOGCT.

Contrast agents in the second window of the near-infrared region (NIR II, 1000-1700 nm) have several advantages and indocyanine green (ICG), which emits NIR II fluorescence, is clinically approved and its use has been widely investigated for in vivo imaging, specifically for delineating tumor outlines; however, insufficient tumor targeting and rapid physiological metabolism of free ICG has substantially impeded its further clinical application. Here, we constructed novel hollowed mesoporous selenium oxide nanocarriers for precise ICG delivery. After surface modification with the active tumor targeting amino acid motif, RGD (hmSeO2@ICG-RGD), the nanocarriers were preferentially targeted toward tumor cells and subsequently degraded for ICG and Se-based nanogranule release under tumor tissue extracellular pH conditions (pH 6.5). The released ICG acted as an NIR II contrast agent, highlighting tumor tissue, after intravenous administration of hmSeO2@ICG-RGD into mammary tumor-bearing mice. Importantly, the photothermal effect of ICG improved reactive oxygen species production from SeO2 nanogranules, inducing oxidative therapy. The synergistic therapeutic effects of hyperthermia and increased oxidative stress on 808 nm laser exposure induced significant tumor cell killing. Thus, our nanoplatform can generate a high-performance diagnostic and therapeutic nanoagent that facilitates in vivo tumor outline discrimination and tumor ablation.

Chromium (Cr) doped CdO films are chemically sprayed and are characterized by their optical, electrical, structural, and microstructural characteristics. The thickness of the films is determined by spectroscopic ellipsometry. The cubic crystal structure with a superior growth along (111) plane of the spray-deposited films is confirmed from the powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. XRD studies also suggested that some of the Cd2+ ions were substituted by Cr3+ ions, and the solubility of Cr in CdO is minimal, to be around ∼0.75 wt%. The analysis by atomic force microscopy shows uniform distribution of grains throughout the surface, whose roughness is varied from 33 to 13.9 nm concerning Cr-doping concentration. The microstructures from the field emission scanning electron microscope reveal a smooth surface. The elemental composition is examined using an energy dispersive spectroscope. The micro-Raman studies carried out in room temperature endorse the presence of metal oxide (Cd-O) bond vibrations. Transmittance spectra are obtained using UV-vis-NIR spectrophotometer, and the band gap values are estimated from the absorption coefficient. The films show high optical transmittance (>75%) in vis-NIR region. A maximum optical band gap of 2.35 eV is obtained from 1.0 wt% Cr-doping. The electrical measurement (Hall analysis) confirmed the degeneracy nature and n-type semi-conductivity. The carrier density, carrier mobility, and dc-conductivity are increased for higher Cr-dopant percentage. High mobility (85 cm2V-1s-1) is observed for 0.75 wt% Cr-doping. The 0.75 wt% Cr-doping show a remarkable response to formaldehyde gas (74.39%).

Three-dimensional multi-porous Iron Oxide/carbon (Fe2O3/C) composites derived from tamarind shell biomass were synthesized by a single-step co-pyrolysis technique and utilized for Paracetamol (PAC) dismissal in the combined adsorption, and advanced oxidation such as electrochemical regeneration techniques. The Fe2O3/C composites were prepared by different pyrolysis temperatures, and named as TS750 (without Fe2O3at 750 °C), MTS450 BCs (Low-450 °C), MTS600 BCs (Moderate-600 °C) and MTS750 BCs (high-750 °C), respectively. As-prepared Fe2O3/C composite was characterized by FE-SEM, XRD, BET, and XPS analysis. The specific surface area and the spatial interaction between the interlayers of Fe2O3 and C were significantly improved by increasing the pyrolysis temperatures from 450 to 750 °C, which improved the adsorption capacity of Fe2O3/C composites in terms of higher rate constants and chemisorption kinetics. The Pseudo-second-order kinetics model fitted in the adsorption test results of Fe2O3/C composites with the highest correlation co-efficiency. The Langmuir-isotherms model fitted in the adsorption test of the TS750 and MTS450 BCs. The Freundlich isotherms model is more fit with MTS600 and MTS750 BCs. Based on the isotherm results, the MTS750 BCs achieved 46.9 mg/g of maximum PAC adsorption capacity. The optimized MTS750 composites could be completely recovered by using an advanced electrochemical oxidation regeneration approach within 180 min. Also, with the adsorption and recovery process, the TOC removal rate improved to ∼79.4%. After the 6th cycle electrochemical oxidation process, the obtained results of the re-adsorption test showed the stabile adsorption activity of the sorbent material. The data outcomes herein propose that this type of combined adsorption and electrochemical approach will be useful in commercial water treatment plants.

Objective: The assessment of the relative impacts of uterine artery embolization (UAE) treatment for female patients is a critical field that informs clinical decisions, yet there is a noticeable scarcity of high-quality, long-term comparative studies. This meta-analysis aimed to focus on the pregnancy rate and outcomes in female patients following UAE and to conduct subgroup analyses based on different patient populations or various control treatments. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted on 2 August 2023 through the Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library of Clinical Trials for all potential studies. Relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were applied to compare pregnancy rates and outcomes between the UAE group and the control group. Heterogeneity was evaluated statistically by using the chi-square-based Cochran's Q test and Higgins I2 statistics, and 95% prediction interval (PI). Software R 4.3.1 and Stata 12.0 were used for meta-analysis. The trial sequential analysis (TSA) was performed with TSA v0.9.5.10 Beta software. Results: A total of 15 eligible studies (11 cohort studies, 3 randomized controlled trials, and 1 non-randomized clinical trial) were included in this meta-analysis. The overall results revealed that UAE significantly decreased postoperative pregnancy rate [RR (95% CI): 0.721 (0.531-0.979), 95% PI: 0.248-2.097] and was associated with an increased risk of postoperative PPH [RR (95% CI): 3.182 (1.319-7.675), 95% PI: 0.474-22.089]. Analysis grouped by population indicated that UAE decreased the risk of preterm delivery [RR (95% CI): 0.326 (0.128-0.831), p = 0.019] and cesarean section [RR (95% CI): 0.693 (0.481-0.999), p = 0.050] and increased the risk of placenta previa [RR (95% CI): 8.739 (1.580-48.341), p = 0.013] in patients with UFs, CSP, and PPH, respectively. When compared with myomectomy, HIFU, and non-use of UAE, UAE treatment was associated with the reduced risks of preterm delivery [RR (95% CI): 0.296 (0.106-0.826)] and cesarean section [(95% CI): 0.693 (0.481-0.999), p = 0.050] and increased placenta previa risk [RR (95% CI): 10.682 (6.859-16.636)], respectively. Conclusion: UAE treatment was associated with a lower postoperative pregnancy rate and increased risk of PPH. OBJECTIVE: Osteoarthritis (OA) presents cartilage damage in addition to chronic inflammation. However, self-recovery of damaged cartilage in an inflammatory environment is not possible. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in the bone marrow are a source of regenerative repair of damaged cartilage. To date, whether intra-luminal administration of the bone marrow can delay the progression of OA is still unknown. This study, therefore, aimed to explore the role of intra-bone marrow injection of Magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate (MgIG) in delaying the OA progression and to investigate the underlying mechanism. METHODS: Rabbit OA models were established using the anterior cruciate ligament transection method while a catheter was implanted into the bone marrow cavity. 1 week after surgery, MgIG treatment was started once a week for 4 weeks. The cartilage degradation was analyzed using hematoxylin-eosin staining, Masson's trichrome staining and Alcian blue staining. Additionally, the pro-inflammatory factors and cartilage regeneration genes involved in the cartilage degeneration and the underlying mechanisms in OA were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and Western blotting. RESULTS: The results of histological staining revealed that intra-bone marrow injection of MgIG reduced degeneration and erosion of articular cartilage, substantially reducing the Osteoarthritis Research Society International scores. Furthermore, the productions of inflammatory cytokines in the bone marrow cavity and articular cavity such as interleukin-1ß(IL-1ß), IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were inhibited upon the treatment of MgIG. At the same time, the expression of alkaline phosphate, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-5b (TRAP-5b) and C-telopeptides of type II collagen (CTX-II) in the blood also decreased and was positively correlated. On the contrary, cartilage-related genes in the bone marrow cavity such as type II collagen (Col II), Aggrecan (AGN), and SRY-box 9 (SOX9) were up-regulated, while matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) was down-regulated. Mechanistically, MgIG was found to exert an anti-inflammatory effect and impart protection to the cartilage by inhibiting the NF-κB pathway. CONCLUSION: Intra-bone marrow injection of MgIG might inhibit the activation of the NF-κB pathway in the progression of OA to exert an anti-inflammatory effect in the bone marrow cavity and articular cavity, thereby promoting cartilage regeneration of MSCs in the bone marrow, making it a potential new therapeutic intervention for the treatment of OA.

Cancer has attracted widespread attention from scientists for its high morbidity and mortality, posing great threats to people's health. Cancer immunotherapy with high specificity, low toxicity as well as triggering systemic anti-tumor response has gradually become common in clinical cancer treatment. However, due to the insufficient immunogenicity of tumor antigens peptides, weak ability to precisely target tumor sites, and the formation of tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment, the efficacy of immunotherapy is often limited. In recent years, the emergence of inorganic nanomaterials makes it possible for overcoming the limitations mentioned above. With self-adjuvant properties, high targeting ability, and good biocompatibility, the inorganic nanomaterials have been integrated with cancer immunotherapy and significantly improved the therapeutic effects.
