OBJECTIVE: To investigate the distribution characteristics of perioperative deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in patients with thoracolumbar fractures caused by high-energy injuries and analyze the risk factors of postoperative DVT exacerbation. METHODS: From October 2016 to July 2021, a total of 550 patients with thoracolumbar fractures due to high-energy injuries in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Both lower limbs were examined by ultrasound before and after operation. Depending on whether the postoperative DVT was exacerbating, the group was divided into a DVT exacerbation group and a non-DVT exacerbation group. Clinical data were used to study the characteristics of perioperative DVT. Logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were used to explore the risk factors of postoperative DVT exacerbation. RESULTS: DVT was found in 97 patients before operation, including 78 cases of distal thrombus, 6 cases of proximal thrombus, and 13 cases of mixed thrombus. Postoperative DVT increased to 116, including 87 distal thrombus, 10 proximal thrombus, and 19 mixed thrombus. The intermuscular vein was the most easily involved vein. Compared with lumbar fractures, thoracic fractures were more likely to have postoperative proximal thrombus (P=0.014). There were 48 cases of thrombus exacerbation after operation. Logistic regression analysis revealed that age, lower extremity muscle strength, time from injury to operation, and blood loss were risk factors for postoperative DVT exacerbation. CONCLUSIONS: The intermuscular vein is the most easily involved vein. The anatomical distribution of DVT at different fracture sites is different, and patients with thoracic fractures are more likely to have proximal DVT after operation. Age, lower extremity muscle strength, time from injury to operation, and blood loss were risk factors for postoperative DVT exacerbation.

OBJECTIVE: Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a common complication in patients with spinal fractures caused by high-energy injuries. Early identification of patients at high risk of postoperative DVT is essential for the prevention of thrombosis. This study aimed to develop and validate a prediction model based on a nomogram to predict DVT in patients with spinal fractures caused by high-energy injuries. METHODS: Clinical data were collected from 936 patients admitted to our hospital between January 2016 and December 2021 with spinal fractures caused by high-energy injuries. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify the risk factors for postoperative DVT and to develop a nomogram. The predictive performance of the nomogram was evaluated by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and calibration curve. RESULTS: The incidence of preoperative DVT was 15.38% (144/936). The postoperative incidence of DVT was 20.5% (192/936). The multivariate analysis revealed that age, operation time, blood transfusion, duration of bed rest, American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) score and D-dimer were risk factors for postoperative DVT. The area under the ROC curve of the nomogram was 0.835 and the calibration curve showed good calibration. CONCLUSIONS: The nomogram showed a good ability to predict postoperative DVT in patients with spinal fractures caused by high-energy injuries, which may benefit pre- and postoperative DVT prophylaxis strategy development.

Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is associated with an invasive phenotype in colorectal cancer (CRC). Here, we examined the roles of YES-associated protein (YAP) and syndecan-2 (SDC2) in EMT-related progression, invasion, metastasis, and drug resistance in CRC. The expression levels of YAP and SDC2 in CRC patient tumor tissue were quantified by PCR and western blotting. EMT-associated characteristics were assessed using Transwell assays and immunohistochemistry. Co-immunoprecipitation, glutathione S-transferase pull-down, and luciferase reporter assays were used to assess interactions between YAP and SDC2. YAP was found to be highly expressed in tumor tissue from 13/16 CRC patients, while SDC2 was highly expressed in the tumor tissue of 12/16 CRC patients. Overexpression of YAP in colon cancer cells led to increased cell viability, invasion, migration, and oxaliplatin resistance demonstrating that YAP plays a role in EMT. In addition, overexpression of YAP led to decreased expression of the large tumor suppressor kinase 1 (LATS1) and mammalian sterile 20-like kinases (MST1/2). Decreased LATS1 expression was associated with increased levels of cell proliferation. Knockdown of YAP by shRNA interference led to decreased cell invasion, migration, and drug resistance in colon cancer cells and reduced tumorigenesis in a mouse xenograft model. Finally, we established that YAP interacted with SDC2, and demonstrated that SDC2 mediated the YAP pathway through the EMT-related factors BMP4, CTGF and FOXM1.

Background and aims: Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) is commonly utilized in the diagnosis of pancreatic tumors, although as this modality relies primarily on the practitioner's visual judgment, it is prone to result in a missed diagnosis or misdiagnosis due to inexperience, fatigue, or distraction. Deep learning (DL) techniques, which can be used to automatically extract detailed imaging features from images, have been increasingly beneficial in the field of medical image-based assisted diagnosis. The present systematic review included a meta-analysis aimed at evaluating the accuracy of DL-assisted EUS for the diagnosis of pancreatic tumors diagnosis. Methods: We performed a comprehensive search for all studies relevant to EUS and DL in the following four databases, from their inception through February 2023: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. Target studies were strictly screened based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria, after which we performed a meta-analysis using Stata 16.0 to assess the diagnostic ability of DL and compare it with that of EUS practitioners. Any sources of heterogeneity were explored using subgroup and meta-regression analyses. Results: A total of 10 studies, involving 3,529 patients and 34,773 training images, were included in the present meta-analysis. The pooled sensitivity was 93% (95% confidence interval [CI], 87-96%), the pooled specificity was 95% (95% CI, 89-98%), and the area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was 0.98 (95% CI, 0.96-0.99). Conclusion: DL-assisted EUS has a high accuracy and clinical applicability for diagnosing pancreatic tumors. Background: Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a precancerous condition. It is not easy to detect CAG in endoscopy. Improving the detection rate of CAG under endoscopy is essential to reduce or interrupt the occurrence of gastric cancer. This study aimed to construct a deep learning (DL) model for CAG recognition based on endoscopic images to improve the CAG detection rate during endoscopy. Methods: We collected 10,961 endoscopic images and 118 video clips from 4,050 patients. For model training and testing, we divided them into two groups based on the pathological results: CAG and chronic non-atrophic gastritis (CNAG). We compared the performance of four state-of-the-art (SOTA) DL networks for CAG recognition and selected one of them for further improvement. The improved network was called GAM-EfficientNet. Finally, we compared GAM-EfficientNet with three endoscopists and analyzed the decision basis of the network in the form of heatmaps. Results: After fine-tuning and transfer learning, the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of GAM-EfficientNet reached 93%, 94%, and 93.5% in the external test set and 96.23%, 89.23%, and 92.37% in the video test set, respectively, which were higher than those of the three endoscopists. Conclusions: The CAG recognition model based on deep learning has high sensitivity and accuracy, and its performance is higher than that of endoscopists.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the dynamic changes and relevant factors of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in patients with thoracolumbar fractures caused by high-energy injuries. METHODS: From January 2016 to June 2021, a total of 655 patients with thoracolumbar fractures who underwent surgical treatment in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were examined by preoperative and postoperative ultrasonography, and divided into thrombus growth group, thrombus invariant group, and thrombus regression group according to the preoperative and postoperative ultrasonographic results. Medical record data, including demographic data, surgical data, and laboratory results, were collected and the differences in various factors among the groups were compared. RESULTS: DVT was found in 99 patients (15.1%, 99/655) before surgery, including 79 cases of distal thrombus, 7 cases of proximal thrombus, and 13 cases of mixed thrombus. The incidence of postoperative DVT increased to 20.6% (134/655), including 96 cases of distal thrombus, 15 cases of proximal thrombus, and 23 cases of mixed thrombus. Among them, 39.7% had thrombus growth, 49.3% had thrombus basically unchanged and 11.0% had thrombolysis. There were significant differences in age, lower extremity muscle strength, time from trauma to surgery, operation time, blood loss, blood transfusion, and post 3-D-dimer among the three groups. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with thoracolumbar fractures caused by high-energy injuries, the majority of patients with DVT do not change or grow after surgery, and only a few of them have thrombolysis. Younger age, lower extremity motor, and fewer blood transfusion contribute to thrombolysis. Delayed surgical intervention, longer operation time, and higher blood loss can lead to thrombosis growth. Post 3-D-dimer is closely related to the dynamic changes of thrombus.

Background: Marmesine, a major active ingredient isolated from Radix Angelicae biseratae (Duhuo), has been reported to have multiple pharmacological activities. However, its therapeutic effects against knee osteoarthritis (OA) remain poorly investigated. The present study is aimed at uncovering the core targets and signaling pathways of marmesine against osteoarthritis using a combined method of bioinformatics and network pharmacology. Methods: We utilized SwissTargetPrediction and PharmMapper to collect the potential targets of marmesine. OA-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified from GSE98918 dataset. Then, the intersection genes between DEGs and candidate genes of marmesine were subjected to protein-protein interaction (PPI) network construction and functional enrichment analysis. The core targets were verified using the molecular docking technology. Results: A total of 320 marmesine-related genes and 5649 DEGs and 60 ingredient-disease targets between them were identified. The results of functional enrichment analyses revealed that response to oxygen levels, neuroinflammatory response, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, MAPK signaling pathway, FoxO signaling pathway, and osteoclast differentiation was identified as the potential mechanisms of marmesine against OA. EGFR, CASP3, MMP9, PPARG, and MAPK1 served as hub genes regulated by marmesine in the treatment of OA, and the molecular docking further verified the results. Conclusion: Marmesine exerts the therapeutic effects against OA through multitarget and multipathways, in which EGFR, CASP3, MMP9, PPARG, and MAPK1 might be hub genes. Our research indicated that the combination of bioinformatics and network pharmacology could serve as an effective approach for investigating the potential mechanisms of natural product.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the dynamic variation of D-dimer and to evaluate the efficacy and accuracy of D-dimer level in patients with thoracolumbar fractures caused by high-energy injuries. METHODS: A total of 121 patients with thoracolumbar fractures caused by high-energy injuries were retrospectively identified and included in this study. There were 83 males and 38 females, with an average age of 48.6 ± 11.2 years. All patients were treated with either screw fixation surgery or decompression fixation surgery. The D-dimer levels were measured 1 day before surgery and on the first, third, and fifth days after surgery. The dynamic variation of D-dimer and the effects of risk factors on D-dimer levels were analysed. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed and the appropriate D-dimer cut-off level was determined for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) screening. RESULTS: Due to a trough on the third day, D-dimer levels grew in an unsustainable manner following surgery (P < 0.001). Patients with the operation time >120 min (P = 0.009) and those with an American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) score A-C (P < 0.001) had higher D-dimer levels. The area under the curve of D-dimer was the greatest on the third day. Applying stratified cut-off values did not change the sensitivity, specificity and negative predictive value in the group with an operation time >120 min, and ASIA score A-C group. CONCLUSIONS: D-dimer levels elevated with fluctuation in patients with thoracolumbar fractures caused by high-energy injuries after surgery. Both operation time and ASIA score had an impact on D-dimer levels. Regarding DVT diagnoses, the diagnostic value of D-dimer was highest on the third day postoperatively, and stratified cut-off values by these two factors did not show better diagnostic efficacy compared with a collective one.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the validity of the Caprini risk assessment model (RAM) in risk stratification for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and to investigate the diagnostic value of Caprini score combined with D-dimer in predicting DVT. METHODS: This study involved 429 patients with thoracolumbar fractures caused by high-energy injuries between October 2016 and November 2019. All patients were treated surgically and had a mean age of 45.3 ± 11.4 years. Patients were risk-stratified using the 2013 Caprini RAM. Mechanical and chemical prophylaxis were used for DVT. Duplex ultrasound of both lower extremities was performed before surgery. RESULTS: Of the 429 patients, 62 (14.45%) developed DVT. The incidence of preoperative DVT was correlated with Caprini score according to risk stratification(χ2 = 117.4, P < 0.001). Based on the original Caprini RAM, all the patients scored in the highest risk category (score ≥5). Further substratification showed that the majority (277 of 429, 64.57%) of the patients were in the Caprini score range 7-8 and the risk of preoperative DVT was significantly higher among patients with Caprini score >10. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of Caprini score and D-dimer was 0.816 and 0.769 when Caprini score >8 or D-dimer >1.81mg/L was considered the criterion of predicting the risk of DVT. When combining the 2 variables, the area under the ROC curve can increase to 0.846. CONCLUSIONS: The Caprini RAM is an effective and reliable DVT risk stratification tool in patients with thoracolumbar fractures caused by high-energy injuries. Caprini score >8 or D-dimer >1.81 mg/L may predict the occurrence of preoperative DVT and the Caprini score combined with D-dimer exhibit better diagnostic performance.

BACKGROUND: Anlotinib is a new tyrosine kinase inhibitor developed in China that targets the receptors for vascular endothelial growth factor, platelet-derived growth factor, fibroblast growth factor, and stem cell factor. Therefore, anlotinib inhibits tumor angiogenesis, representing a new therapeutic alternative for lung cancer. Hypertension is one of its most common adverse effects, leading to discontinuation of the drug and limited clinical usefulness. OBJECTIVE: The present review aims to summarize the evidence on the prevalence, physiopathology, and management of anlotinib-induced hypertension, as well as its effect on the cancer prognosis. METHODS: Searches in Medline, Cochrane Central Library, and Embase were performed using the following terms: anlotinib, adverse effect, hypertension, clinical trial, vascular endothelial growth factor, and anti-angiogenic drugs. Citations were also identified by checking the reference sections of selected papers. RESULTS: Except for a phase I clinical trial with a small sample size (n = 6), almost all the clinical trials on anlotinib have reported the development of anlotinib-induced hypertension. In these trials, the incidence of hypertension ranged from 13% to 67.7%, and that of grade 3/4 hypertension ranged from 4.8% to 16%. Alterations in nitric oxide, endothelin-1, microvascular rarefaction, selective vasoconstrictions, and renal injury have been cited as potential mechanisms leading to anlotinib-induced hypertension. When needed, treatment may include general hygienic measures and pharmacotherapy in some cases. CONCLUSION: To effectively manage anlotinib-induced hypertension, early prevention, a reasonable dosage regimen, and appropriate treatment are critical to effectively manage anlotinib-induced hypertension. Additionally, anlotinib-induced hypertension may be considered a marker for predicting efficacy.

VEGF/VEGFR-2 signaling plays a critical part in tumor angiogenesis. Inhibition of this pathway has been considered as a promising approach for cancer treatment. In this work, a series of 6,7-dimethoxy-4-anilinoquinazoline derivatives bearing diarylamide moiety were designed, synthesized and evaluated as potent inhibitors of VEGFR-2 kinase. Their in vitro antiproliferation activities against two human cancer cell lines Hep-G2 and MCF-7 have also been determined. Among them, compound 14b exhibited the most potent inhibitory activity against VEGFR-2 with IC50 value of 0.016 ± 0.002 µM and it showed the most potent antiproliferative effect against Hep-G2 and MCF-7 with IC50 values at low-micromolar range. Molecular docking studies revealed that these compounds represented by the most potent compound 14b could bind well to the ATP-binding site of VEGFR-2, which suggested that compound 14b could be a potential anticancer agent targeting VEGFR-2.

Given the poor prognosis of unresectable advanced gastric cancer (GC), novel therapeutic strategies are needed. The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling cascade, the most frequently activated pathway in GC, plays an important role in tumorigenesis and metastasis. The MAPK/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) pathway is an attractive therapeutic target for GC. In this study, trametinib, a mitogen-activated protein/extracellular signal-regulated kinase kinase (MEK) inhibitor, reduced the p-ERK level and significantly increased signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) phosphorylation in GC cells, resulting in reduced sensitivity to trametinib. Physapubescin B (PB), a steroidal compound extracted from the plant Physalis pubescens L., inhibited the proliferation and induced the apoptosis of GC cells by suppressing STAT3 phosphorylation. The combination of PB and trametinib suppressed the STAT3 phosphorylation induced by trametinib, and synergistically suppressed gastric tumor growth in vitro and in vivo. Together, these results indicate that inhibition of both MEK and STAT3 may be effective for patients with MAPK/ERK pathway-addicted GC.

In this work, polyurethane sponge is employed as the structural substrate of the sensor. Graphene oxide (GO) and polypyrrole (PPy) are alternately coated on the sponge fiber skeleton by charge layer-by-layer assembly (LBL) to form a multilayer composite conductive layer to prepare the piezoresistive sensors. The 2D GO sheet is helpful for the formation of the GO layers, and separating the PPy layer. The prepared GO/PPy@PU (polyurethane) conductive sponges still had high compressibility. The unique fragmental microstructure and synergistic effect made the sensor reach a high sensitivity of 0.79 kPa-1. The sensor could detect as low as 75 Pa, exhibited response time less than 70 ms and reproducibility over 10,000 cycles, and could be used for different types of motion detection. This work opens up new opportunities for high-performance piezoresistive sensors and other electronic devices for GO/PPy composites.

OBJECTIVE: To compare outcomes between K-rod dynamic stabilization system (KDSS) and posterior lumbar intervertebral fusion (PLIF) for lumbar degenerative disease. METHODS: This study retrospectively reviewed 98 patients who underwent lumbar surgery from March 2012 to June 2014, including 48 in the KDSS group and 50 in the PLIF group. All patients were followed up for at least 2 years. Duration of operation, blood loss, hospital stay, complications, and patient satisfaction were recorded and analyzed. Clinical outcomes were evaluated by visual analog scale and Oswestry Disability Index. Radiographic results including disk height index, foraminal height, and range of motion (ROM) were compared between groups. RESULTS: Compared with PLIF group, KDSS group had shorter duration of operation and less blood loss (P < 0.001). There were no differences in hospital stay, complications, and patient satisfaction. Both groups demonstrated significant improvement in visual analog scale back and leg pain and Oswestry Disability Index. No significant difference was found between groups at any time point (P > 0.05). Postoperative disk height index and foraminal height increased significantly compared with preoperatively (P < 0.05). Although disk height index and foraminal height in KDSS group were smaller than PLIF group values, there were no significant differences between groups. ROM of total lumbar and implanted segment was decreased compared with preoperative ROM in both groups (P < 0.05), but the 2 values were higher in KDSS group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Both KDSS and PLIF can improve clinical and radiographic outcomes for early-stage lumbar degenerative disease. Compared with PLIF, KDSS has better operative time, less blood loss, and better preservation of ROM, but prospective, randomized, controlled trials with larger sample size and longer follow-up are required.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Newly identified IL-10-producing regulatory B cells (Bregs) have been shown to play an important role in the suppression of immune responses. Chronic immune activation participates in the pathogenesis of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) but whether Bregs are involved in its development remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the circulating frequency and function of Bregs in DCM. METHODS: In total, 35 DCM patients (20 men and 15 women) and 44 healthy controls (23 men and 21 women) were included in the experiment, and the frequency of Bregs was detected using flow cytometry. RESULTS: According to our results, the frequency of circulating IL-10-producing Bregs was significantly lower in DCM patients compared with healthy controls. Furthermore, the CD24hiCD27+ B cell subset in which IL-10-producing Bregs were mainly enriched from DCM patients showed impaired IL-10 expression and a decreased ability to suppress the TNF-α production of CD4+CD25- Tconv cells and to maintain Tregs differentiation. Correlation analysis showed that the frequency of IL-10-producing Bregs and the suppressive function of CD24hiCD27+ B cells were positively correlated with left ventricular ejection fraction and negatively correlated with NT-proBNP in DCM patients. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the reduced frequency and impaired functions suggest a potential role of Bregs in the development of DCM.

Growth differentiation factor (GDF)­5 serves a role in tissue development and tenomodulin serves an important role in the development of tendons. The effects of GDF­5 on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), particularly with regards to tendon bioengineering, are poorly understood. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of GDF­5 on cell viability and tenomodulin expression in MSCs from murine compact bone. MSCs were isolated from murine compact bones and confirmed by flow cytometric analysis. In addition, the adipogenic, osteoblastic and chondrocyte differentiation capabilities of the MSCs were determined. MSCs were treated with GDF­5 and the effects of GDF­5 on MSC viability were determined. The mRNA and protein expression levels of tenomodulin were detected by reverse transcription­quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blotting, respectively. MSCs from murine compact bone were successfully isolated. GDF­5 had optimal effects on cell viability at 100 ng/ml (+36.9% of control group without GDF­5 treatment, P<0.01) and its effects peaked after 6 days of treatment (+56.6% of control group, P<0.001). Compared with the control group, treatment with 100 ng/ml GDF­5 for 4 days enhanced the mRNA expression levels of tenomodulin (3.56±0.94 vs. 1.02±0.25; P<0.05). In addition, p38 was activated by GDF­5, as determined by enhanced expression levels of phosphorylated p38 (p­p38). The GDF­5­induced protein expression levels of p­p38 and tenomodulin were markedly inhibited following treatment with SB203580, an inhibitor of p38 mitogen­activated protein kinase. These results suggested that GDF­5 treatment may increase tenomodulin protein expression via phosphorylation of p38 in MSCs from murine compact bone. These findings may aid the future development of tendon bioengineering.

BACKGROUND: The objective of the study is to explore the effects of retrosternal and prevertebral lifting paths of the tubular stomach on postoperative complications of patients undergoing cervical anastomosis in thoracoscopic and laparoscopic esophagectomy. METHODS: Sixty-three patients were retrospectively analyzed. The patients received thoracoscopic and laparoscopic esophagectomy by the same surgeon. According to the path by which the stomach was lifted upward, the patients were divided into two groups: the retrosternal path group (32 patients) and the prevertebral path group (31 patients). Operative indications and complications of postoperative patients in these two groups were observed. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference in the time duration of surgery, amount of bleeding, number of dissected lymph node, and postoperative hospitalization time between the retrosternal and prevertebral lifting paths (P > 0.05). Furthermore, the two groups did not show significant difference in the incidence rate of postoperative anastomosis fistula complications (P = 0.702). Instead, the amount of postoperative gastric drainage and the incidence rates of the pulmonary infection were significantly lower in the retrosternal path group than in the prevertebral path group, respectively (P = 0.001, P = 0.012, respectively). CONCLUSION: The esophagogastrostomic cervical anastomoses performed via the retrosternal and prevertebral paths are both feasible methods of digestive tract reconstruction. The amount of postoperative gastric drainage volume and the pulmonary infection incidence rate in the retrosternal path group were lower than those in the prevertebral path group. Therefore, gastroesophageal anastomosis via the retrosternal lifting path may be preferably considered for thoracoscopic and laparoscopic surgery for esophageal carcinoma patients.

BACKGROUND: It has been reported that C5 palsy is a potential complication of both anterior and posterior cervical spine surgery, although several mechanisms of C5 palsy following posterior cervical surgery have been proposed, few reports about correlative risk factors have been elaborated on C5 palsy after anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF). OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlative risk factors of C5 palsy after anterior cervical decompression and fusion. METHODS: This is a retrospective study. A total of 161 patients (108 males and 53 females) who underwent ACDF between 2007 and 2012 were included in this study. C5 palsy is characterized by deltoid and/or biceps brachii weakness. The patients were divided into two groups: one that had experienced C5 palsy (group A) and the other one had not (group B). In both groups, the age, gender, duration of disease, diagnosis, No. of surgical levels, cervical curvature correction, occupying rate of spinal canal at C4/5, diameter of the C4/5 foramen, intervertebral height variation, decompression width and preoperative high-signal intensity zone (HIZ) of spinal cord in T2-weighted MRI at C4/5 were measured and evaluated. The risk factors of C5 palsy were detected with logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in age, gender, duration of disease, diagnosis, No. of surgical levels, rate of spinal canal at C4/5 and HIZ of spinal cord in T2-weighted MRI at C4/5. Cervical curvature correction, diameter of the C4/5 foramen, intervertebral height variation and decompression width had significant differences between the two groups (P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis revealed that cervical curvature, diameter of the C4/5 foramen, intervertebral height and decompression width were the pivotal risk factors for the incidence of C5 palsy. CONCLUSION: For patients with ACDF, greater cervical curvature correction, narrow diameter of the C4/5 foramen, improper intervertebral height variation and larger decompression width were the correlative risk factors for C5 palsy after ACDF.
