RESUMO

PURPOSE: The main challenges in revision total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) are the treatment of the bone loss and the pre-operative planning. 3D-printed models may enhance pre-operative planning. The aim of the study is to compare the intra- and peri-operative results and costs for Paprosky type 3 rTHAs planned with 3D-printed models to ones accomplished with the conventional imaging techniques (X-rays and CT scan). METHODS: Seventy-two patients with Paprosky type 3 defect underwent rTHA between 2014 and 2021. Fifty-two patients were treated with standard planning and 20 were planned on 3D-printed models. Surgical time, intra-operative blood loss, number of transfused blood units, number of post-operative days of hospitalization, and use of acetabular rings were compared between the two groups. A costs comparison was also performed. RESULTS: The 3D-printed group showed reduced operative time (101.8 min (SD 27.7) vs. 146.1 min (SD 49.5), p < 0.001) and total days of hospitalization (9.3 days (SD 3.01) vs. 12.3 days (SD 6.01), p = 0.009). The cost of the procedures was significantly lower than the control group, with an adjusted difference of 4183 euros (p = 0.004). No significant differences were found for the number of total transfused blood units and blood loss and the number of acetabular rings. CONCLUSION: The use of 3D-printed models led to a meaningful cost saving. The 3D-printed pre-operative planning for complex rTHAs seems to be effective in reducing operating time, hospital stay and overall costs.

BACKGROUND: The number of hip replacements is constantly and progressively increasing, resulting in an increase in periprosthetic fractures. The main aim of this study is to analyze costs and outcomes of surgical treatment for those fractures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study was performed on periprosthetic proximal femur fracture presented a single-level I trauma center. Medical records were reviewed in terms of demographic data, diagnosis (according to Vancouver classification), type of surgical treatment, hospitalization length and follow-up. Patients were interviewed about number of consultations after discharge, medications and physiotherapy sessions. Clinical outcome was evaluated with WOMAC score at the last follow-up, and patient health status was evaluated with the EQ5D5L score pre-trauma and at the last follow-up. Patients were divided into two groups according to surgical treatment: reduction and internal fixation alone and revision plus fixation. A further group was also considered: patients underwent a Girdlestone procedure. Global costs for each group were calculated. RESULTS: We initially recruited 117 patients, 17 of them were lost at follow-up. Furthermore, 19 patients (19%) died during the follow-up, and 81 of them were therefore included in the study. Mean follow-up was 26.5 months. Mean postoperative WOMAC score was 39.44, and EQ5D5L score was 9.12 for the preoperative period and 12.35 at the last follow-up. A significant worsening of clinical conditions was found comparing the period before fracture to the last follow-up (p < 0.01). Quality of life after surgery resulted to be poor or fair in 40% of the patients at a mean follow-up of 26.5 months. No significant differences between groups were found according to patients' health status. Mean global costs for mayor surgeries were 18,822 Euros; mean costs for fixation alone were 17,298 Euros while for fixation and revision were 20,966 Euros, but no statistically difference was found between these two groups. Mean cost for Girdlestone group was 12,664 Euros. CONCLUSIONS: In proximal femur periprosthetic fractures, either fixation or revision plus fixation presents high costs but patients' postoperative quality of life is poor.

PURPOSE: Fall from a height is high energy trauma. The causes include both accidental falls and suicide attempts. The literature and also our previous study demonstrated that this kind of patients, during their recovery time, need a high multidisciplinary workload with significant costs. The present study is the first researching the patterns of the non-acute orthopedic complications after a trauma precipitation that required a new hospitalization and surgical procedure. METHODS: Retrospective study and analysis of orthopedic complication characteristics of patients fallen from height. We researched the possible relation between the complication pattern (soft tissue or bone involvement) and the case character (psychiatric or non-psychiatric patients, type of fracture and kind of fixation). RESULTS: The 18.83% of all patients (154 cases included) needed a new admission to perform further surgical procedures (9.74% of psychiatric patients and 9.09% of unvoluntary victims). Our data showed that patients with psychiatric disorder were associated with a statistically significant (p < 0.05) increase in soft tissue complications (46.67%) and onset of non-union after internal osteosynthesis and external fixation (72.72%), respectively. CONCLUSION: According to the results obtained, we can conclude that osteosynthesis in psychiatric patients is related to well-defined and predictable complications.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of patients treated with anatomic medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction with and without tibial tuberosity osteotomy (TTO). Correlations between patient's age, gender, pre-injury physical activity and the achieved results were investigated as secondary endpoints. METHODS: An observational retrospective study with prospective collected data was performed. Inclusion criteria were: treatment with anatomic MPFL reconstruction with gracilis tendon according to SchÓ§ttle's technique performed between 2011 and 2017; associated TTO as unique accessory procedure; skeletal joint maturity; a minimum follow-up of 12 months after surgery. Clinical outcomes were assessed with the Kujala, Lysholm and Tegner scores. RESULTS: Forty patients (42 knees) were included, 64% of them underwent TTO. The Kujala score significantly improved from 47.4 ± 17.6 preoperatively to 89.4 ± 13.6 postoperatively (p < 0.01). The average Lysholm score was 45.6 ± 20.5 preoperatively: it showed a significant increase to 89.8 ± 12.8 postoperatively (p < 0.01). Pre-injury mean Tegner was 5.9 ± 1.8, while it dropped to 3.0 ± 1.6 after injury. After surgery, Tegner resulted 4.9 ± 1.6. Forty-three percent of patients regained the pre-injury sport activity level. Redislocation rate was 2.4%. CONCLUSION: Anatomic MPFL reconstruction allows excellent patellar stability recovery, knee functionality improvement, return to Activities of Daily Living and a low redislocation rate. Better results were achieved in younger (under 30 years old) and higher sports activity-level subjects. The TTO association provided clinical results comparable to isolated MPFL reconstructions, suggesting that the two procedures can be safely accomplished together without affecting the positive outcomes. PURPOSE: To evaluate the outcomes of vertebral stabilisation after acute traumatic thoracolumbar fractures, correlating the outcome with patient clinical data, type and location of fracture, presence of neurological damage, timing of surgical intervention and number of instrumented levels. The results have been evaluated also through the AO classification and AOSIS score. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of 101 patients with traumatic thoracolumbar injuries from T3 to L5 operated 2011-2016 by posterior or antero-posterior fixation. The demographic data, trauma dynamics, number and type of fractures, associated lesions, timing of surgery, hospital stay, AOSIS score, RKA, SF-36 and ODI scores, pre- and post-operative neurological condition (ASIA grade), possible complications and re-interventions were evaluated for each patient. RESULTS: Fractures mainly involved the region between T11 and L2. The probability of medullary involvement increases with the increase in severity of the main fracture type with no relation with the vertebral region. Type B and C fractures were common in the thoracic region and rare in the thoracolumbar junction. ODI and SF-36 scores were significantly better in patients with a lower AOSIS score, specifically in lesions classified as type A, amyelic and with no comorbidity. No difference was found in the clinical scores between thoracic, thoracolumbar and lumbar fractures, nor between male and female patients. None of the 10 patients with ASIA A lesion at presentation achieved any degree of recovery: 50% of them had a thoracic lesion. Re-intervention rate was 15%. Hospital stay was significantly higher in patients with type C fractures, and complication rate was on average 14% (7% in type A fractures, 16% in B and 25% in C). CONCLUSIONS: This study confirmed the validity of the posterior approach in the surgical treatment of thoracolumbar fractures. Outcomes and complication risks are related to fracture severity. Surgical treatment can be recommended even with an AOSIS score of two or three. The combined antero-posterior approach could be useful in cases with LSC > 8, especially in the thoracolumbar region. The degree of neurological recovery depends on fracture type, location, ASIA score and presence of comorbidities. Early intervention in myelic patients allows for a better prognosis. BACKGROUND: Loosening of femoral stem can be associated with a wide spectrum of bone loss that represents the most important factor for choosing the most appropriate revision implant. Positive outcomes in femoral revision were already observed with Zweymüller Alloclassic® SLL stem in short- and medium-term follow-up. The aim of the study is to analyse the clinical results of 31 patients who underwent prosthetic revision for aseptic loosening of femoral component with Zweymüller femoral stem and long follow-up. METHODS: The series included 10 men and 21 women with a mean age of 66.24 years at the time of revision surgery and a mean follow-up of 12.25 years. Clinical and radiological evaluation was performed at 2 months, 6 months and yearly, using Harris Hip Score (HHS) and Engh's criteria and Brooker classification for heterotopic ossifications. RESULTS: At the last follow-up, the survival of the stem was observed in all patients (32 hips). The mean HHS was 77.83 ± 20.90. Clinical results were stated as excellent in 14 cases, good in 5 cases, fair in 4 cases and poor in 9 cases. Radiographic stability with fixation by bone ingrowth was observed in 15 cases and with fibrous ingrowth in 17 cases. Heterotopic ossifications grade III was observed in 4 cases and grade II in 3 cases. CONCLUSIONS: Zweymüller Alloclassic® SLL stem showed excellent or good results in about 59% of revision surgery for aseptic loosening. The survival rate of the stem at 9-15 years of follow-up was satisfactory.

PURPOSE: 3D CT scan is actually the gold standard for preoperative diagnosis of pelvic discontinuity (PD) in hip revision surgery. Aim of this study was to compare the accuracy of 3D-modeling with traditional and 3D CT scan. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively identified 56 patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty revisions with Paprosky Type-3 periacetabular bone defects. Preoperative X-rays, CT scans and 3D-models were blindly reviewed by two orthopedic surgeons to detect possible pelvic discontinuities. Results were compared with surgical notes. Independent sensitivities, specificities, positive predictive values and negative predictive values were calculated for X-rays, CT scan and 3D models. Analysis of interobserver reliability was performed. RESULTS: Fifty-six patients met inclusion criteria. In nine patients, surgical notes indicated a pelvic discontinuity. On 3D CT scans, PD was identified in 25 cases for observer 1 and in 24 cases for observer 2. Analyzing 3D-models, PD was identified in eleven patients by both observers. The nine patients, with PD reported on the surgical report, were all identified with both the techniques. The specificity of standard 3D CT was 0.66 for observer 1 and 0.68 for observer 2 and increased to 0.96 for both observers with the utilization of 3D-models. The positive predictive value increased from 0.36 (observer 1) and 0.38 (observer 2) with the CT evaluation to 0.82 in the 3D-models evaluation. The analysis of 3D models was characterized by a perfect intraobserver reliability (intraobserver correlation coefficient = 1). The observers showed substantial agreement for PD classification; the kappa values were 0.96 and 0.77, respectively, for CT scan and 3D-model evaluation. CONCLUSIONS: 3D-modeling showed higher specificity than traditional and 3D CT scans in identification of PD in Paprosky Type-3 periacetabular bone defects.

BACKGROUND: Posterior stabilization in patients treated with laminectomy for spondylotic cervical myelopathy is still a debate. Despite both being reported in literature by several authors, some controversies still exist. The aim of this study is to compare clinical and radiological outcomes in patients treated with laminectomy or laminectomy with posterior stabilization. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated 42 patients affected by cervical myelopathy (mean age 70.43 ± 5.03 years), 19 treated with laminectomy (group A) and 23 with laminectomy and posterior instrumentation (group B). Neurological status was assessed with Nurick scale, pain with VAS and radiological parameters with C2-C7 SVA, T1 slope and C2-C7 lordosis, clinical function with modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association score (JOA). Also, surgery time and blood loss were recorded. Student's t test was used for continuous variables, while Kruskal-Wallis test was used for categorical values. RESULTS: No differences were found in postoperative Nurick scale (p = 0.587), VAS (p = 0.62), mJOA (p = 0.197) and T1 slope (p = 0.559), while laminectomy with fusion showed better postoperative cervical lordosis (p = 0.007) and C2-C7 SVA (p < 0.00001), but higher blood loss (p < 0.00001) and surgical time (p < 0.00001). Both groups showed better Nurick scale (p = 0.00017 for group A and p = 0.00081 for group B), VAS (p = 0.02 for group A and p = 0.046 for group B) and mJOA (p < 0.00001 for both groups) than preoperative values. CONCLUSIONS: Both treatments are a valuable choice, offering some benefits and disadvantages against each other. Each procedure must be carefully evaluated on the basis of patients' general status, preoperative pain, signs of instability and potential benefits from cervical alignment correction.

RESUMO

Severe traumatic losses of soft tissues and bone at foot and ankle level are often treated by means of amputation, but this may involve important psychological and anatomic consequences for the patient. If there are good vascular conditions, reconstruction by means of composite free flaps is often the only alternative to this demolitive treatment. The transfer of composite free flaps that include vascularized bone from various donor sites may provide anatomical reconstruction and recovery of function of the foot and ankle. If plantar skin and its sensation are present, these techniques may represent a good choice in the treatment of complex injuries of the foot, and by means of skeletal morphological reconstruction, they may give good functional results. With these premises, we report a case in which was used a groin flap to fill and solve a complex defect of bone and soft tissues of midfoot in a gunshot injury.

Ostreobium sp. (Bryopsidales, Ulvophyceae) is a major microboring alga involved in tropical reef dissolution, with a proposed symbiotic lifestyle in living corals. However, its diversity and colonization dynamics in host's early life stages remained unknown. Here, we mapped microborer distribution and abundance in skeletons of the branching coral Pocillopora damicornis from the onset of calcification in primary polyps (7 days) to budding juvenile colonies (1 and 3 months) growing on carbonate and non-carbonate substrates pre-colonized by natural biofilms, and compared them to adult colonies (in aquarium settings). Primary polyps were surprisingly already colonized by microboring filaments and their level of invasion depended on the nature of settlement substrate and the extent of its pre-colonization by microborers. Growth of early coral recruits was unaffected even when microborers were in close vicinity to the polyp tissue. In addition to morphotype observations, chloroplast-encoded rbcL gene sequence analyses revealed nine new Ostreobium clades (OTU99%) in Pocillopora coral. Recruits and adults shared one dominant rbcL clade, undetected in larvae, but also present in aquarium seawater, carbonate and non-carbonate settlement substrates, and in corals from reef settings. Our results show a substratum-dependent colonization by Ostreobium clades, and indicate horizontal transmission of Ostreobium-coral associations.

INTRODUCTION: Even if different surgical approaches for total knee arthroplasty are well known since decades, the standard medial parapatellar incision remains the most common one; general agreement about significant advantages with minimally invasive techniques is lacking. Furthermore, the surgical stress effect on the organism has always been analyzed through blood inflammatory parameters. This study aim was to compare the standard and subvastus approaches, using the salivary cortisol in particular as measure for systemic surgery-related stress. METHODS: Fifteen operations were performed in a consecutive series; clinical (Knee Society Knee Scoring System., a questionnaire score, range of motion, tourniquet time, intra-operative bleeding) and biochemical factors (salivary and hematic cortisol, C-reactive protein, muscular creatine phosphokinase levels) were evaluated. The final follow-up was at two months after the operation. RESULTS: No significant differences were observed in most of the parameters; however, the subvastus group had a sharper and earlier functional improvement trend than the standard one. On the other side, it increased the CPK levels significantly. CONCLUSIONS: In our experience, the medial subvastus approach, firstly associated with greater surgical stress, has then been characterized by a more favorable functional improvement trend. Moreover, the salivary cortisol measurement has proved to be a non-invasive and reliable method to evaluate the systemic surgery-related stress.

AIMS: Several studies have reported the safety and efficacy of subcapital re-alignment for patients with slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) using surgical dislocation of the hip and an extended retinacular flap. Instability of the hip and dislocation as a consequence of this surgery has only recently gained attention. We discuss this problem with some illustrative cases. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We explored the literature on the possible pathophysiological causes and surgical steps associated with the risk of post-operative instability and articular damage. In addition, we describe supplementary steps that could be used to avoid these problems. RESULTS: The causes of instability may be divided into three main groups: the first includes causes directly related to SCFE (acetabular labral damage, severe abrasion of the acetabular cartilage, flattening of the acetabular roof and a bell-shaped deformity of the epiphysis); the second, causes not related to the SCFE (acetabular orientation and poor quality of the soft tissues); the third, causes directly related to the surgery (capsulotomy, division of the ligamentum teres, shortening of the femoral neck, pelvi-trochanteric impingement, previous proximal femoral osteotomy and post-operative positioning of the leg). BACKGROUND: To test if complexity of acetabular fractures, pre-trauma health status, time from trauma to definitive surgery, severity of injury or job characteristics influence work resumption, return to the same professional position and time out of work. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a retrospective study on patients with surgically treated acetabular fractures. Medical records were reviewed to analyse demographics, follow-up, diagnosis (Letournel classification), type of surgical treatment, co-morbidities, time from trauma to definitive surgery, American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status classification (ASA) and associated injuries. Patients were interviewed about the amount of leaves of absence and whether they returned to the same professional position. RESULTS: The study included 108 patients whose mean age was 44 ± 11 years. Median time out of work was 180 days. Eleven patients lost their job and 23 patients returned to a different professional position. Univariable analysis showed: (a) the risk of losing the job was higher for patients who had been admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) (p = 0.018), (b) returning to the identical position was more likely in patients who were older (p = 0.006), sedentary workers (p = 0.003), and with shorter time from trauma to definitive surgery (p = 0.003). Multivariable linear regression showed that leaves of absence were longer in patients with higher ASA scores, who had been admitted to ICU, or were not sedentary workers. CONCLUSIONS: Work reintegration after acetabular fractures is a main issue for the patient and social systems: only 69 % of patients returned to their previously held professional position. Time out of work was not found to be related to fracture type but to pre-trauma health status, ICU admission and sedentary jobs. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: III.

INTRODUCTION: Isolated patellofemoral (PF) arthritis is rare, and there is no complete agreement about the best surgical treatment. The operative treatments are total knee arthroplasty and patellofemoral replacement (PFR). The incidence of many early complications of PF arthroplasty has decreased with the introduction of newer designs. Nowadays, the main cause of revision surgery is the progression of tibiofemoral osteoarthritis. In the past, PF arthroplasty was contraindicated in patients with evidence of osteoarthritis or pain in medial or lateral tibiofemoral compartments. The improvement in implant designs and surgical techniques has allowed the addition of a monocompartmental arthroplasty for the medial or lateral tibiofemoral compartment. In this work, we evaluate our first experience with PF arthroplasty and its combination with unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From May 2014 to March 2016, we treated 14 patients. An isolated PF arthroplasty was performed in six knees (five patients), and a combined PF and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty was performed in nine cases. We observed a significant improvement in the clinical and functional Knee Society Scores (KSSs) after surgery in our patients. RESULTS: We obtained good results in our cases both for clinical and functional KSSs. Patellar clunk was recorded in one case. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: We are going toward a new attitude in which partial osteoarthritic changes could be treated with partial resurfacing prosthetic solutions such as unicompartmental, bi-unicompartmental or PFR alone, or unicompartmental combined, which respects the cruciates and achieves maximal bone preservation, which is vital, particularly, for young patients.

BACKGROUND: Surgical management of Achilles tendon rupture is still controversial: open techniques have a higher rate of soft tissue complications but a lower incidence of re-rupture than percutaneous tenorrhaphies. The aim of our retrospective study was to analyze and compare clinical and functional results in patients treated with either the conventional open or minimally invasive suture treatment with the Achillon® system. METHODS: A retrospective review of 140 patients was performed; 72 were treated with open tenorrhaphy, 68 with the minimally invasive Achillon® suture system. RESULTS: With a comparable re-rupture rate, there was a statistically significant reduction in surgical time, incidence of minor complications, time required to return to sport activities and return to work in the minimally invasive group. CONCLUSIONS: Achillon® mini-invasive suture system is a reliable tool for the Achilles tendon ruptures, able to reduce the incidence of soft tissues complications if compared to the classic open tenorrhaphy, while maintaining strength of the suture and leading to superimposed functional outcomes.

PURPOSE: In pertrochanteric and intertrochanteric femoral fractures, the avulsion of the lesser trochanter by the pull of the iliopsoas muscle is not uncommon. This fragment is not commonly fixed because the avulsion of the lesser is tough to not influence the clinical outcome but up to date there is no evidence to support this statement. The aim of this study is to evaluate if lesser trochanter implication affects psoas muscle strength in proximal femur fracture. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with a consolidated intertrochanteric or pertrochanteric fracture associated or not with lesser trochanter fracture were enrolled, respectively, in group A and group B. Criteria of inclusion were the achievement of an anatomic reduction with gamma nail and a complete consolidation of the fracture. Criteria of exclusion were a follow-up shorter than 6 months and age over 65 years old at surgery. Patients were retrospectively reviewed for the purpose of this study. Range of motion, modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS), flexion strength with hip in neutral position, at 90° of flexion and in "figure four" position were evaluated on injured and healthy side. On the pre-operative X-rays, the vertical displacement of the lesser trochanter was calculated. RESULTS: Groups A and B showed no significant difference in age and follow-up. No statistical difference between the two groups was found in range of motion, mean mHHS, hip flexion strength at 90° of hip flexion. Lesser trochanter fracture group showed a significantly reduced strength in flexion with hip in neutral flexion (mean difference between two groups was 18.5 kgf). Lesser trochanter displacement showed a significant correlation with strength at 90° of flexion. CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that lesser trochanter implication may result in decreased hip flexion strength. Lesser trochanter displacement is directly correlated with flexion strength. Further studies will be necessary to understand if lesser trochanter fixation may be a good solution for those patients.

INTRODUCTION: Shoulder pain in spinal cord injury (SCI) is common due to the repetition of the wheelchair propulsion and the increased intra-articular pressure during transfers. Known risk factors for the onset of shoulder pain are age and level of SCI. Aims of this study were to assess how body mass index affects the onset of shoulder pain and to evaluate the relationship between the age at the moment of SCI and the number of years between SCI and the onset of shoulder pain. METHODS: A retrospective study was performed including subjects with SCI between C5 and S3. Excluding criteria were spina bifida and subjects not using manual wheelchair or presenting with shoulder pain before SCI. Patients in the two spinal cord units were reviewed with a self-made questionnaire, and patients were also enrolled during sport events. Age at the moment of SCI, current age and number of years between SCI and the onset of shoulder pain were recorded. RESULTS: Ninety-six patients were enrolled: 77 men and 19 women; 46.4 % reported shoulder pain. Overweight patients who do more than 12 transfers per day showed an increased incidence of shoulder pain (p = 0.0434). A linear regression showed a significant relationship between the age of the subject at the moment of SCI and the number of years between the SCI and the onset of pain. CONCLUSION: Our study confirms that age and level of SCI are risk factors for shoulder pain, but we demonstrated also that overweight patients who do more than 12 transfers per day have higher chances of having shoulder pain.

BACKGROUND: Total knee arthroplasty gives excellent objective results. Nevertheless, the subjective findings do not match the normal knee perception: Often, it depends on patellar pain onset. In this study, we analyzed clinical and radiological items that can affect resurfaced patellar tracking, and role of a patella-friendly femoral component and patellar size on patellar pain onset. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty consecutive patients were implanted using the same-cemented posterior-stabilized TKA associated with patella resurfacing. Fifteen patients were implanted using a classical femoral component, while another 15 patients were implanted using a patella-friendly femoral component. The statistical analysis was set to detect a significant difference (p < 0.05) in clinical and radiological outcomes related to several surgical parameters. Clinical and functional outcomes were recorded using the Knee Society Scoring System (KSS) and patellar pain with the Burnett questionnaire. RESULTS: Mean follow-up was 25 months. KSS results were excellent in both groups. Group 2 (patella-friendly femoral model) reached a higher percentage of 100 points in the clinical and functional KSS, but there was no statistical difference. Also, no statistical differences for Burnett Questionnaire results were recorded. We had one case of patellar clunk syndrome in the standard femoral component group and one poor result in the second group. Postoperative radiographic measurements evidenced no statistical differences in both groups. In group 1 (classical femoral component), better significant result (p < 0.05) war recorded at clinical evaluation according to the Knee Society Scoring System (KSS) in case of wider patellar component resurfaced. CONCLUSIONS: The present study reveals no statistically significant difference in the incidence of anterior knee pain between classical and "patella-friendly" femoral components. With the particular type of implant design utilized in this study, when the classical femoral component is used, bigger patellar implant sizes (38 and 41 mm) showed superior clinical outcome.
