BACKGROUND: The irrigation efficacy of a povidone-iodine solution to prevent surgical site infection is still controversial. We assessed the irrigation effect with a povidone-iodine solution on the incidence of surgical site infection after gastroenterological surgery. METHODS: This study is a single-center, prospective, randomized, blinded-end point superiority trial for surgical wound irrigation. Patients undergoing gastroenterological surgery were randomly assigned in a 1:1 replacement ratio using computer-generated randomization. Patients were grouped according to their surgical wound treatment into the control group using the normal sterile saline and the povidone-iodine group using 10% povidone-iodine solution after the NS solution. The main finding was 30-day surgical site infections assessed in the full analysis set. RESULTS: From November 2020 to December 2022, 697 of 894 patients were eligible for the study, among which 347 were in the povidone-iodine group and 350 in the control group. Thirty-day surgical site infections occurred in 100 (14%) patients-54 (16%) in the povidone-iodine group and 46 (13%) in the control group (odds ratio, 1.229; 95% CI, 0.800-1.889; P = .406). Superficial incisional surgical site infections occurred in 30 (9%) and 15 (4%) patients, respectively (odds ratio, 2.154; 95% CI, 1.134-4.090; P = .026). Only 3 patients (1%) in the control group developed adverse skin reactions. CONCLUSION: This study examined the irrigation efficacy of povidone-iodine for surgical site infection prevention compared to control in gastroenterological surgery. Povidone-iodine wound irrigation has shown no additional beneficial effect on the occurrence of surgical site infections.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. OBJECTIVES: Imaging changes in the vertebral body after posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) are determined to be trabecular bone remodeling (TBR). This study aimed to investigate the influence of cage materials on TBR and segment stabilization in PLIF by studying image changes. METHODS: This was a retrospective study reviewing 101 cases who underwent one-level PLIF with three-dimensional porous titanium (3DTi) cages (53 patients) or polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) cages (48 patients). Computed tomography images obtained 3 months, 1 year, and 2 years postoperatively were examined for TBR, vertebral endplate cyst formation as an instability sign, cage subsidence, and clear zone around pedicle screw (CZPS). RESULTS: No significant differences in the TBR-positivity rates were observed between the two cages at 3 months, 1 year, and 2 years postoperatively. However, all 3DTi cage segments that were TBR-positive at 3 months postoperatively showed no CZPS and fewer final instability segments than the TBR-negative segments (0% vs 9%). In contrast, although the PEEK cage segments that were TBR-positive at 3 months postoperatively were not associated with future segmental stabilization, those that were TBR-positive at 1 year postoperatively had fewer final instability segments than the TBR-negative segments (0% vs 33%). CONCLUSIONS: The 3DTi cage segments with TBR 3 months postoperatively showed significant final segmental stabilization, whereas TBR at 1 year rather than 3 months postoperatively was useful in determining final segmental stabilization for the PEEK cage segments. The timing of TBR, a new osseointegration assessment, were associated with the cage material.

PURPOSE: To evaluate retrospectively the influence of percutaneous cryoablation for small renal tumors on total and affected kidney function and risk factors associated with worsening function of the affected kidney. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between April 2016 and March 2022, 27 patients who underwent cryoablation for small renal tumors at our institution participated in this study, which investigated time-dependent changes in postoperative renal function. We evaluated estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFRs) and split renal function revealed by scintigraphy using 99 m technetium-mercaptoacetyltriglycine (99mTc-MAG3) before cryoablation and at 1 week, 1 month, and 6 months after cryoablation. Numerous variables were analyzed to assess risk factors for worsening renal function. RESULTS: Baseline eGFR (mean ± standard deviation) was 56.5 ± 23.7 mL/min/1.73 m2 (mean ± SD; range, 20.5-112.5). Mean eGFRs at 1 week, 1 month, and 6 months after cryoablation were 57.4 ± 24.5 (19.1-114.9), 57.1 ± 25.1 (21.5-114.9), and 53.8 ± 23.9 mL/min/1.73 m2 (20.0-107.5), respectively. Changes were statistically insignificant (p = 1.0000, = 0.6749, and = 0.0761, respectively). Regarding split renal function, mean baseline contribution of the affected kidney determined by 99mTc-MAG3 was 49.7% ± 6.0% (38.8-63.3%); these rates at 1 week, 1 month, and 6 months after cryoablation were 43.7% ± 8.8 (29.1-70.6%), 46.2% ± 7.7% (32.6-70.3%), and 46.0% ± 8.5% (32.5-67.6%), respectively. Differences from baseline were significant for all periods (p < 0001, < 0001, = 0.0001, respectively). Serum C reactive protein and lactate dehydrogenase at 1 day following cryoablation, tumor's nearness to the collecting system or sinus, and volume of ablated normal renal parenchyma were significantly correlated with decreased contributions of the affected kidney by > 10% after cryoablation. CONCLUSION: Unlike total renal function, affected kidney function could worsen after cryoablation.

A 54-year-old woman with a mycotic superior mesenteric artery (SMA) aneurysm underwent emergent aneurysm resection with a great saphenous vein bypass. Follow-up computed tomography revealed a rapidly growing recurrent SMA aneurysm at the stump. Under the diagnosis of recurrent pseudoaneurysm of SMA with a fragile stump, we performed an open dual arterial bypass using indocyanine green fluorescence angiography and endovascular coil embolization. Subsequently, the patient's recurrent mycotic SMA aneurysm was successfully managed without mesenteric ischemic complications. This method may help prevent fatal mesenteric ischemia during SMA aneurysm surgery.

PURPOSE: To compare changes in liver enzyme levels on postoperative day 1 between patients with and without silicone disc (SD) use during liver retraction in laparoscopic gastrectomy for gastric cancer and laparoscopic gastric mobilization for esophageal cancer. METHODS: This prospective randomized controlled phase II trial was conducted between June 30, 2020, and November 30, 2022, to investigate the benefits of using an SD with a Nathanson liver retractor (NLR) compared with those using an NLR in laparoscopic gastrectomy and gastric mobilization. The primary endpoint was the change in transaminase level on postoperative day 1. RESULTS: A total of 86 patients received randomized assignments and were included in the analysis, with 44 assigned to the SD (-) group and 42 to the SD (+) group. On postoperative day 1, the SD (+) group showed a significantly lower increase in the aspartate aminotransferase levels than the SD (-) group (SD [+], 94.4% vs. SD [-], 179.8%; p = 0.012). Similarly, the SD (+) group showed a significantly lower increase in alanine aminotransferase levels than the SD (-) group (SD [+], 71.6% vs. SD [-], 201.5%; p = 0.014). CONCLUSION: In laparoscopic gastrectomy, the use of an SD combined with an NLR appears to mitigate postoperative liver dysfunction.

The assessment of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has become increasingly important with the rise of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). However, challenges persist, including subjective interpretation and the unclear significance of staining intensity, as well as contrasting roles in tumoral and stromal regions. Our study enhances the understanding of PD-L1 in ESCCs by analyzing its expression in tumors and stroma with H-scores, highlighting its distinct clinicopathological impacts. In a retrospective cohort of 194 ESCC specimens from surgical resection, we quantified PD-L1 expression in tumoral and stromal compartments using H-scores, analyzing whole slide images with digital pathology analysis software. Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated that higher PD-L1 expression is significantly associated with improved postoperative overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) in both tumoral and stromal areas. Multivariable analysis identified high tumoral PD-L1 expression as an independent prognostic factor for prolonged OS and RFS (HR = 0.47, p = 0.007; HR = 0.54, p = 0.022, respectively). In a separate analysis, high stromal PD-L1 expression was found to correlate with less advanced pathological stages and a prolonged response to cytotoxic chemotherapy, with no similar correlation found for ICI treatment response. This study reveals PD-L1's contrasting role in the ESCC tumor immune microenvironment, impacting prognosis, tumor stage, and treatment response.

CENP-A determines the identity of the centromere. Because the position and size of the centromere and its number per chromosome must be maintained, the distribution of CENP-A is strictly regulated. In this study, we have aimed to understand mechanisms to regulate the distribution of CENP-A (Cnp1SP) in fission yeast. A mutant of the ufd1+ gene (ufd1-73) encoding a cofactor of Cdc48 ATPase is sensitive to Cnp1 expressed at a high level and allows mislocalization of Cnp1. The level of Cnp1 in centromeric chromatin is increased in the ufd1-73 mutant even when Cnp1 is expressed at a normal level. A preexisting mutant of the cdc48+ gene (cdc48-353) phenocopies the ufd1-73 mutant. We have also shown that Cdc48 and Ufd1 proteins interact physically with centromeric chromatin. Finally, Cdc48 ATPase with Ufd1 artificially recruited to the centromere of a mini-chromosome (Ch16) induce a loss of Cnp1 from Ch16, leading to an increased rate of chromosome loss. It appears that Cdc48 ATPase, together with its cofactor Ufd1 remove excess Cnp1 from chromatin, likely in a direct manner. This mechanism may play a role in centromere disassembly, a process to eliminate Cnp1 to inactivate the kinetochore function during development, differentiation, and stress response.

PURPOSE: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of publications to evaluate the analgesic efficacy and safety of percutaneous thermal ablation (PTA) plus percutaneous cementoplasty (PCP) (PTA + PCP) for painful bone metastases. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library and Embase for articles published up to October 2022. Outcomes were a 10-point pain scale, morphine equivalents daily dose (MEDD) and complications. A subgroup confined to spinal bone metastases was analyzed. RESULTS: Twenty-one articles were selected for the analysis. The 21 selected articles involved a total of 661 cases. The pooled pain scales at pre-PTA + PCP, 1 day, 1 week and 1-, 3-, and 6 months post-PTA + PCP were 7.60 (95% confidence interval [CI], 7.26-7.95, I2 = 89%), 3.30 (95% CI, 2.25-4.82, I2 = 98%), 2.58 (95% CI, 1.99-3.35, I2 = 94%), 2.02 (95% CI, 1.50-2.71, I2 = 93%), 1.78 (95% CI, 1.26-2.53, I2 = 95%), and 1.62 (95% CI, 1.14-2.31, I2 = 88%), and in the subgroup, 7.97 (95% CI, 7.45-8.52, I2 = 86%), 3.01 (95% CI, 1.43-6.33, I2 = 98%), 2.95 (95% CI, 1.93-4.51, I2 = 95%), 2.34 (95% CI, 1.82-3.01, I2 = 68%), 2.18 (95% CI, 1.57-3.03, I2 = 78%), and 2.01 (95% CI, 1.16-3.48, I2 = 86%). Mean MEDD decreased up to 3 months post-PTA + PCP in 4 articles. The overall pooled major complication rate was 4% (95% CI, 2-6%, I2 = 2%). CONCLUSIONS: The updated systematic review and meta-analysis indicates that PTA + PCP for painful bone metastases is safe, and can lead to rapid and sustained pain reduction.

Wee1 is a cell cycle regulator that phosphorylates Cdk1/Cdc2 and inhibits G2/M transition. Loss of Wee1 in fission yeast results in an early onset of mitosis. Interestingly, we found that cells lacking Wee1 require the functional spindle checkpoint for their viability. Genetic analysis indicated that the requirement is not attributable to the early onset of mitosis. Live-cell imaging revealed that some kinetochores are not attached or bioriented in the wee1 mutant. Furthermore, Mad2, a component of the spindle checkpoint known to recognize unattached kinetochores, accumulates in the vicinity of the spindle, representing activation of the spindle checkpoint in the mutant. It appears that the wee1 mutant cannot maintain stable kinetochore-microtubule attachment, and relies on the delay imposed by the spindle checkpoint for establishing biorientation of kinetochores. This study revealed a role of Wee1 in ensuring accurate segregation of chromosomes during mitosis, and thus provided a basis for a new principle of cancer treatment with Wee1 inhibitors.

BACKGROUND: Enteral feeding (EF) is recommended to enhance nutritional status after esophagectomy; however, diarrhea is a common complication of EF. We investigated the clinical and prognostic impact of diarrhea during EF after esophagectomy. METHODS: One hundred and fifty-two patients who underwent transthoracic esophagectomy were enrolled. The King's stool chart was used for stool characterization. The short- and long-term outcomes were compared between a non-diarrhea (Group N) and diarrhea group (Group D). RESULTS: A higher dysphagia score (≥ 1) was observed more frequently in Group D than in Group N (45.7% vs. 19.8%, p = 0.002). Deterioration of serum total protein, serum albumin, serum cholinesterase, and the prognostic nutritional index after esophagectomy was greater in Group D than in Group N (p = 0.003, 0.004, 0.014, and 0.001, respectively). Patients in Group D had significantly worse overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) than those in Group N (median survival time (MST): OS, 21.9 vs. 30.6 months, p = 0.001; RFS, 12.4 vs. 27.7 months, p < 0.001). In stratified analysis due to age, although there was no difference in OS with or without diarrhea in young patients (MST: 24.1 months in a diarrhea group vs. 33.6 months in a non-diarrhea group, p = 0.218), patients in a diarrhea group had significantly worse OS than those in a non-diarrhea group in elderly patients (MST: 17.8 months vs. 27.9 months, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Diarrhea during EF can put elderly patients at risk of postoperative malnutrition and a poor prognosis after esophagectomy.

Phosphate (Pi) is a macronutrient, and Pi homeostasis is essential for life. Pi homeostasis has been intensively studied; however, many questions remain, even at the cellular level. Using Schizosaccharomyces pombe, we sought to better understand cellular Pi homeostasis and showed that three Pi regulators with SPX domains, Xpr1/Spx2, Pqr1, and the VTC complex synergistically contribute to Pi homeostasis to support cell proliferation and survival. SPX domains bind to inositol pyrophosphate and modulate activities of Pi-related proteins. Xpr1 is a plasma membrane protein and its Pi-exporting activity has been demonstrated in metazoan orthologs, but not in fungi. We first found that S. pombe Xpr1 is a Pi exporter, activity of which is regulated and accelerated in the mutants of Pqr1 and the VTC complex. Pqr1 is the ubiquitin ligase downregulating the Pi importers, Pho84 and Pho842. The VTC complex synthesizes polyphosphate in vacuoles. Triple deletion of Xpr1, Pqr1, and Vtc4, the catalytic core of the VTC complex, was nearly lethal in normal medium but survivable at lower [Pi]. All double-deletion mutants of the three genes were viable at normal Pi, but Δpqr1Δxpr1 showed severe viability loss at high [Pi], accompanied by hyper-elevation of cellular total Pi and free Pi. This study suggests that the three cellular processes, restriction of Pi uptake, Pi export, and polyP synthesis, contribute synergistically to cell proliferation through maintenance of Pi homeostasis, leading to the hypothesis that cooperation between Pqr1, Xpr1, and the VTC complex protects the cytoplasm and/or the nucleus from lethal elevation of free Pi.

Spontaneous regression (SR) of cancer is very rare, especially of small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Recently, an association of paraneoplastic neurological syndrome (PNS) has been reported as a cause of SR of cancer, and onconeural antibodies are a possible factor in the SR of cancer associated with PNS. We herein report the first case of SR of SCLC combined with anti-P/Q-type of voltage-gated calcium channel (VGCC) antibody-positive Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS), a subtype of PNS. This case report suggests that SCLC may be spontaneously reduced by an autoimmune response induced by VGCC antibodies associated with LEMS. Our finding may help elucidate the mechanisms that inhibit tumor growth and cause the regression of tumors.

Lung cancer associated with a cystic airspace is frequently misdiagnosed or overlooked. Adenocarcinoma, followed by squamous cell carcinoma, is the most typical histologic type of lung cancer connected to a cystic airspace. Here we present the rare case of lung pleomorphic carcinoma associated with a cystic airspace. We encountered a 74-year-old Japanese man diagnosed by computed tomography (CT) as having a nodule outside a cystic airspace in the lung. Several previous CT images showed that the cystic airspace preceded the nodule. Postsurgery, pathology indicated a diagnosis of pleomorphic carcinoma. Since pulmonary pleomorphic carcinomas pursue an aggressive clinical course, their early detection may contribute to an improved prognosis. Our case demonstrated that pleomorphic carcinoma can arise with cystic airspaces. For early diagnosis of those aggressive lung cancers, chest physicians should carefully examine the walls of cystic airspaces on CT.

PURPOSE: To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of publications to evaluate the analgesic efficacy and safety of percutaneous splanchnic nerve neurolysis (SNN) for cancer-related pain. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Ichushi-Web for English or Japanese articles published up to July 2022 and reporting patients who underwent percutaneous SNN for cancer-related pain. The outcome measures assessed in the systematic review and meta-analysis were the pain measurement scales and morphine equivalents daily dose (MEDD) before and after the intervention and the rate of complications. RESULTS: Pooled pain measurement scores at pre-intervention, 1-2 weeks, and at 1, 2, 3, and 6 months post-intervention were 6.65 (95% confidence interval [CI], 5.77-7.67, I2 = 97%), 2.79 (95% CI, 2.00-3.88, I2 = 88%), 2.82 (95% CI, 2.49-3.20, I2 = 55%), 2.86 (95% CI, 2.64-3.10, I2 = 0%), 2.99 (95% CI, 2.56-3.46, I2 = 82%), and 3.09 (95% CI, 1.44-6.65, I2 = 70%), respectively. Mean MEDD was described in 8 of the 11 included articles. In all 8 articles, MEDD decreased up to 3 months post-intervention. The pooled minor complication rates for diarrhea and hypotension were 28% (95% CI, 13-49%, I2 = 85%) and 31% (95% CI, 16-51%, I2 = 80%), respectively. The pooled major complication rate was 2% (95% CI, 1-2%, I2 = 0%). CONCLUSIONS: Analysis indicates that percutaneous SNN for cancer-related pain can be performed safely with sustained reduction of pain measurement scales while reducing the administration of opioids.

PURPOSE: This retrospective study aimed to investigate the validity and reliability of FDG-PET/CT visual assessment using Deauville criteria to predict pathological invasiveness of early lung adenocarcinoma prior to surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between April 2020 and January 2022, 51 patients who underwent surgery for pathological stage 0/I lung adenocarcinoma were enrolled. The pulmonary lesions were divided into two groups according to pathological invasiveness: less invasive (including adenocarcinoma in situ and minimally invasive adenocarcinoma and invasive adenocarcinoma. We compared CT size (total and solid size), SUVmax, and Deauville score between the two groups. Furthermore, we investigated inter-rater and intra-rater agreements regarding the Deauville score. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to identify the diagnostic performance of each method. RESULTS: Based on pathologic diagnoses, 51 lesions in the 51 patients were divided into 6 less invasive and 45 invasive adenocarcinoma lesions. According to quadratic-weighted Kappa statistics, inter-rater (k = 0.93) and intra-rater (k = 0.97) agreements among all five components of the Deauville score indicated high agreement. There was a statistically significant difference in CT solid size, SUVmax, and Deauville score between the two groups. There were no significant differences between CT solid size and FDG-PET/CT assessments (AUC = 0.93 for Deauville score and SUVmax, AUC = 0.84 for CT solid size). CONCLUSION: FDG-PET/CT visual assessment using the Deauville score could assist in deciding upon minimally invasive surgery for early lung adenocarcinoma.

PURPOSE: To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of published studies to evaluate the analgesic efficacy and safety of computed tomography (CT)-guided single celiac plexus neurolysis (CPN) with the injection of a neurolytic agent into the celiac plexus in one session (CT-guided single CPN). METHODS: PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Ichushi-Web were searched for English or Japanese articles published up to February 2022, which reported findings about patients who underwent CT-guided single CPN. The outcome measures assessed in the systematic review and meta-analysis were the pain measurement scales from 0 to 10 before and after the intervention and the rate of minor and major complications. RESULTS: The pooled pain measurement scales at pre-intervention and 1- or 2-, 7-, 30-, 60-, 90-, and 180-day post-intervention was 6.72 (95% confidence interval [CI], 4.77-9.46, I2 = 98%), 2.31 (95% CI 2.31-4.44, I2 = 92%), 2.84 (95% CI 1.39-5.79, I2 = 95%), 3.36 (95% CI 1.66-6.77, I2 = 98%), 3.19 (95% CI 1.44-7.08, I2 = 59%), 3.87 (95% CI 1.88-7.97, I2 = 0%), and 3.40 (95% CI 3.02-3.83, I2 = not applicable), respectively. The pooled minor complication rates of diarrhea, hypotension, nausea or vomiting, and pain associated with the procedure were 18% (95% CI 8-37%, I2 = 45%), 16% (95% CI 2-58%, I2 = 76%), 6% (95% CI 2-16%, I2 = 1%), and 7% (95% CI 2-21%, I2 = 17%), respectively. There was no major complication in the included studies. CONCLUSION: CT-guided single CPN can be performed safely and provides immediate analgesic efficacy although the amount of heterogeneity is characterized as large. Further investigation of its long-term analgesic efficacy is required.

Label-free image identification of circulating rare cells, such as circulating tumor cells within peripheral blood nucleated cells (PBNCs), the vast majority of which are white blood cells (WBCs), remains challenging. We previously described developing label-free image cytometry for classifying live cells using computer vision technology for pattern recognition, based on the subcellular structure of the quantitative phase microscopy images. We applied our image recognition methods to cells flowing in a flow cytometer microfluidic channel, and differentiated WBCs from cancer cell lines (area under receiver operating characteristic curve = 0.957). We then applied this method to healthy volunteers' and advanced cancer patients' blood samples and found that the non-WBC fraction rates (NWBC-FRs), defined as the percentage of cells classified as non-WBCs of the total PBNCs, were significantly higher in cancer patients than in healthy volunteers. Furthermore, we monitored NWBC-FRs over the therapeutic courses in cancer patients, which revealed the potential ability in monitoring the clinical status during therapy. Our image recognition system has the potential to provide a morphological diagnostic tool for circulating rare cells as non-WBC fractions.

The aim of this study is to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of published studies to evaluate the efficacy and safety of computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous biopsy for retroperitoneal lesions. PubMed and the Cochrane Library were searched for English-language articles published up to October 2021 and reporting findings about patients with retroperitoneal lesions who underwent CT-guided percutaneous biopsy. The outcome measures assessed in this systematic review and meta-analysis are accuracy, false negative rate, and rate of minor and major complications. Heterogeneity among studies was evaluated by testing Cochran's Q and the inconsistency index statistics. Seven studies published from 1975 to 2021 were selected for the analysis of accuracy, false negative rates, and rate of major and minor complications. The pooled accuracy of CT-guided percutaneous biopsy for retroperitoneal lesions was 93.6% [95% confidence interval (CI), 88.1-96.6%], with high heterogeneity. The pooled false negative rate was 6.3% (95% CI, 3.3-11.7%) with high heterogeneity. Pooled rates of minor and major complications were 3.7% (95% CI, 1.6-8.6%) with moderate heterogeneity and 0.7% (95% CI, 0.4-1.1%) with low heterogeneity, respectively. CT-guided percutaneous biopsy for retroperitoneal lesions has been reported to have high accuracy with a limited rate of major complications.

At the initial stage of carcinogenesis, oncogenic transformation occurs in single cells within epithelial layers. However, the behavior and fate of the newly emerging transformed cells remain enigmatic. Here, using originally established mouse models, we investigate the fate of RasV12-transformed cells that appear in a mosaic manner within epithelial tissues. In the lung bronchial epithelium, most majority of RasV12-transformed cells are apically extruded, whereas noneliminated RasV12 cells are often basally delaminated leading to various noncell-autonomous changes in surrounding environments; macrophages and activated fibroblasts are accumulated, and normal epithelial cells overlying RasV12 cells overproliferate and form a convex multilayer, which is termed a 'dome-like structure'. In addition, basally extruded RasV12 cells acquire certain features of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Furthermore, the expression of COX-2 is profoundly elevated in RasV12 cells in dome-like structures, and treatment with the COX inhibitor ibuprofen suppresses the recruitment of activated fibroblasts and moderately diminishes the formation of dome-like structures. Therefore, basal extrusion of single-oncogenic mutant cells can induce a tumor microenvironment and EMT and generate characteristic precancerous lesions, providing molecular insights into the earlier steps of cancer development.
