BACKGROUND: Despite advances, most patients with multiple myeloma (MM) experience relapse and repeat multiple treatment lines, highlighting an unmet need for patients with relapsed or refractory MM (RRMM). Bispecific antibodies are a new option, but their efficacy and safety in Japanese patients are unknown. METHODS: This was an analysis of Japanese patients receiving elranatamab monotherapy in MagnetisMM-2 (NCT04798586) and MagnetisMM-3 (NCT04649359). Both studies evaluated a priming dose regimen of elranatamab followed by weekly subcutaneous doses, in patients with disease progression while receiving or who were intolerant to ≥3 prior therapies (≥1 proteasome inhibitor, ≥1 immunomodulatory drug and ≥1 anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody). The primary endpoints were dose limiting toxicities (DLTs) in MagnetisMM-2 and confirmed objective response rate (ORR) in MagnetisMM-3. In both, key secondary endpoints included safety, tolerability, duration of response, time to response, progression-free survival and overall survival. RESULTS: In MagnetisMM-2 (N = 4) and MagnetisMM-3 (n = 12), median ages were 68.5 and 66.5 years, respectively. No DLTs were observed in MagnetisMM-2. ORRs were 50.0% (95% CI, 6.8-93.2) and 58.3% (95% CI, 27.7-84.8) in MagnetisMM-2 and MagnetisMM-3, respectively. All patients experienced treatment-emergent adverse events in MagnetisMM-2 (grade 3/4: 75.0%) and MagnetisMM-3 (grade 3/4: 100%); cytokine release syndrome occurred in 100% (grade 3/4: 25.0%) and 58.3% (no grade 3/4) of patients, respectively. Neither study reported immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: No new safety signals were observed, and ORRs were similar to that of the overall MagnetisMM-3 trial population, supporting further studies of elranatamab in Japanese patients with RRMM. To compare late renal effects in pediatric and adult patients with malignancies after PBT involving part of the kidney. A retrospective study was conducted to assess changes in renal volume and function in 24 patients, including 12 children (1-14 years old) and 12 adults (51-80 years old). Kidney volumes were measured from CT or MRI images during follow-up. Dose-volume histograms were calculated using a treatment planning system. In children, the median volume changes for the irradiated and control kidneys were -5.58 (-94.95 to +4.79) and +14.92 (-19.45 to +53.89) mL, respectively, with a relative volume change of -28.38 (-119.45 to -3.87) mL for the irradiated kidneys. For adults, these volume changes were -22.43 (-68.7 to -3.48) and -21.56 (-57.26 to -0.16) mL, respectively, with a relative volume change of -5.83 (-28.85 to +30.92) mL. Control kidneys in children exhibited a marked increase in size, while those in adults showed slight volumetric loss. The percentage of irradiated volume receiving 10 Gy (RBE) (V10) and 20 Gy (RBE) (V20) were significantly negatively associated with the relative volume change per year, especially in children. The CKD stage based on eGFR for all patients ranged from 1 to 3 and no cases with severe renal dysfunction were found before or after PBT. Late effects on the kidneys after PBT vary among age groups. Children are more susceptible than adults to significant renal atrophy after PBT. V10 and V20 might serve as predictors of the degree of renal atrophy after PBT, especially in children. PBT has a minimal impact on deterioration of renal function in both children and adults.

Introduction: Chondrosarcoma is a rare malignant bone tumor. Particle beam therapy (PT) can concentrate doses to targets while reducing adverse events. A meta-analysis based on a literature review was performed to examine the efficacy of PT and photon radiotherapy for skull base chondrosarcoma. Methods: The meta-analysis was conducted using 21 articles published from 1990 to 2022. Results: After PT, the 3- and 5-year overall survival (OS) rates were 94.1% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 91.0-96.2%) and 93.9% (95% CI: 90.6-96.1%), respectively, and the 3- and 5-year local control rates were 95.4% (95% CI: 92.0-97.4%) and 90.1% (95% CI: 76.8-96.0%), respectively. Meta-regression analysis revealed a significant association of PT with a superior 5-year OS rate compared to three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (p < 0.001). In the studies used in the meta-analysis, the major adverse event of grade 2 or higher was temporal lobe necrosis (incidence 1-18%, median 7%). Conclusion: PT for skull base chondrosarcoma had a good outcome and may be a valuable option among radiotherapy modalities. However, high-dose postoperative irradiation of skull base chondrosarcoma can cause adverse events such as temporal lobe necrosis.

INTRODUCTION: Ankle fractures are one of the most common lower extremity fractures. After surgery, the ankle joint is often immobilized in a plantar flexion position, and there have been many reported cases of limited ankle joint range of motion. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of regular massage interventions on ankle joint range of motion after removal of fixation. METHODS: The massage group comprised 30 patients who had sustained an ankle fracture and had undergone surgical fixation, physical therapy, and massage between November 2020 and March 2022. These subjects received a 3-min massage twice daily, five times a week. The control group consisted of 38 patients who had sustained an ankle fracture between January 2015 and September 2020 and had undergone surgical fixation as well as regular physical therapy. RESULTS: The respective ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion ranges of motion after cast removal were 2.50 ± 7.2° and 42.3 ± 7.2° in the massage group and -8.62 ± 2.9° and 34.8 ± 8.3° in the control group. An unpaired t-test showed that the ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion ranges of motion in the massage group were significantly greater than those in the control group (p = 0.036 and p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate that regular 3-min massage interventions of the plantar flexors could prevent the progression of a range of motion limitations in postoperative patients with an ankle fracture more effectively than regular physical therapy alone.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to clarify the relationship between the transition of kinesiophobia and knee joint function from the preoperative period to three months postoperative, the time to resume running, six months post-ACLR, and the goal time to resume sports. METHODS: 54 patients who underwent initial ACLR were included in this study. The Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia-11 (TSK-11) was used to assess kinesiophobia. One-way ANOVA was performed for the preoperative, three-month postoperative, and six-month postoperative endpoints. To examine changes in knee function associated with changes in TSK-11, we calculated correlations between the differences at each time point. RESULTS: TSK-11 decreased significantly at both three and six months postoperatively compared with the preoperative level, but there was no significant change between three months and six months postoperatively. Similar to the decrease in TSK-11 from preoperatively to three and six months postoperatively, there was an improvement in flexion ROM, Pain, Subjective knee function, but none of these changed significantly from three to six months postoperatively. CONCLUSION: There may be significant improvements in knee function associated with TSK-11 reduction up to three months postoperatively.

BACKGROUND: Follow-up after treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) can be mostly performed using dynamic CT or MRI, but there is no common evaluation method after radiation therapy. The purpose of this study is to examine factors involved in tumor reduction and local recurrence in patients with HCC treated with proton beam therapy (PBT) and to evaluate HCC shrinkage after PBT. METHODS: Cases with only one irradiated lesion or those with two lesions irradiated simultaneously were included in this study. Pre- and post-treatment lesions were evaluated using Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) by measuring the largest diameter. RESULTS: The 6-, 12-, and 24-month CR + PR rates after PBT were 33.1%, 57.5%, and 76.9%, respectively, and the reduction rates were 25.1% in the first 6 months, 23.3% at 6-12 months, and 14.5% at 13-24 months. Cases that reached CR/PR at 6 and 12 months had improved OS compared to non-CR/non-PR cases. CONCLUSIONS: It is possible that a lesion that reached SD may subsequently transition to PR; it is reasonable to monitor progress with periodic imaging evaluations even after 1 year of treatment.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the trachea is a rare disease that is slow growing and has a risk of distant metastasis. The standard treatment for ACC of the trachea is surgery, but this tumor is often unresectable. In definitive radiotherapy using photons for unresectable ACC of the trachea, it is sometimes difficult to deliver a sufficient dose to the target without exceeding the tolerable dose to the surrounding normal tissues. Here, we report two cases of ACC of the trachea that received a high dose (74 Gy [relative biological effectiveness]) of proton beam therapy and achieved long-term survival.

We report three patients with T1 high-grade (HG) bladder cancer who suffered from distant metastasis during bladder preservation. The patients were a 48-year-old female (Case 1), a 75-year-old female (Case 2) and an 82-year-old male (Case 3) with the chief complaint of asymptomatic gross hematuria. The histopathological diagnoses of the initial transurethral resection of the bladder tumor (TURBT) and second TURBT were urothelial carcinoma, pT1, HG and no malignancy in all three patients. Bladder tumors of all patients revealed sessile growth pattern and no presence of carcinoma in situ. Case 2 and 3 did not receive BCG vesical instillation after the second TURBT. Lymph node metastases appeared in Case 1 and Case 2 and lung metastasis appeared in Case 3. Tumor budding (TB) was positive in Case 1 and Case 2. Variant histology (VH) of nested morphology was detected in Case 1 and VH of inverted morphology in Case 2 and Case 3. Twenty-four months after the initial TURBT, Case 1 died due to cancer progression after cisplatin-based chemotherapy and pembrolizumab therapy. Thirty-three and 11 months after the initial TURBT, Case 2 and Case 3 were alive without cancer progression after cisplatin-based chemotherapy and/or pembrolizumab therapy, respectively. The two patients with T1 HG bladder cancer with TB had lymphatic metastasis and the patient without TB had hematogenous metastasis. Nested morphology is reportedly categorized as high-risk disease and inverted morphology as low-risk disease. TB might be correlated with lymphatic metastasis in T1 HG bladder cancer, and TB should be considered in the management of T1 HG bladder cancer. In the case of VH, the guidelines should be followed during the treatment decision of T1 HG bladder cancer.

Background Abnormal sensations were frequently experienced by patients who received irradiation of the brain or head and neck region. We have previously suggested correlations with irradiation of the nasal cavity and retina. Purpose We performed a retrospective dose-volume histogram analysis focused on the brain and head and neck tumor to examine the relationship between these abnormal sensations and the details of irradiation. Methods Multivariate logistic regression models were applied for the presence or absence of light flash and odor. Gender, age, radiotherapy method (proton beam therapy vs. photon radiotherapy), dose of retina, optic nerve, chiasmatic gland, pituitary, nasal cavity, oral cavity, frontal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, temporal lobe, amygdala, and hippocampus were set as candidates of explanatory variables. Results Light flash and odor during radiotherapy have been suggested to be associated with younger age and retina and nasal cavity irradiation. Multivariate analyses including dose-volume histograms indicated that light flash was related to age, chiasmatic gland irradiation, and pituitary dose, and odor was related to age and nasal cavity irradiation. Conclusion Our results indicate that light flash during radiotherapy is caused by irradiation of the visual pathway and that odor is caused by irradiation of the nasal cavity or olfactory bulb.

Background: The findings of previous studies support the efficacy of cold water immersion (CWI) with carbon dioxide (CO2) in enhancing muscle blood flow and maintaining aerobic performance efficiency. We hypothesize that the addition of hydrogen gas (H2), known for its antioxidant properties and role in inflammation regulation, to C-CWI can enhance recovery after eccentric exercise. Subjects: and Methods: Thirty-four healthy subjects performed a knee-extensor eccentric exercise. They were randomly allocated into four groups: control, CWI, CO2-rich CWI (C-CWI), and CO2 + H2 gas mixture CWI (CH-CWI). In the three CWI groups, all subjects were immersed in the appropriate bath at 20 °C for 20 min immediately after 60 repetitions of eccentric exercise. Before exercise and after 48 h of recovery, the subjects' maximal voluntary isometric contraction torque (MVC-ISO), maximal voluntary concentric (MVC-CON) contraction torque, countermovement jump (CMJ) height, knee flexion range of motion (ROM), muscle soreness, and muscle thickness were measured. Results: In the CH-CWI group only, the MVC-ISO, CMJ height, and ROM did not decrease significantly post-exercise, whereas all of these decreased in the other three groups. Muscle soreness at palpation, contraction, and stretching significantly increased post-exercise in all groups. Echo intensity and tissue hardness did not increase significantly in the CH-CWI group. Conclusions: CH-CWI stimulated recovery from impairments in MVC-ISO torque, CMJ height, knee-flexion ROM, tissue hardness, and echo intensity. These findings indicate that CH-CWI can promote recovery after eccentric exercise.

The correlation between sensory light flash and proton beam delivery was evaluated by measuring the timing of pulse beam delivery and light flash sensing using an event recorder in an 83-year-old patient receiving proton beam therapy (PBT) for nasopharyngeal adenoid cystic carcinoma. The treatment dose was 65 Gy (RBE) in 26 fractions with 2 ports, and both beams included the visual pathway (retina, optic nerve, chiasma). Measurements were obtained in 13 of the 26 fractions. The patient sensed a light flash in all 13 fractions and pressed the recorder button for 426 of the 430 pulsed beam deliveries, giving a sensing rate of 99.1%. The median duration of button-pressing of 0.3 s was almost the same as that of the beam pulse of 0.2 s, with a reaction time lag of 0.35 s. These results suggest a consistency between light flash during PBT and the timing of irradiation.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate proton beam therapy (PBT) in multimodal treatment for locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinus (NPSCC). METHODS: The cases in this study included T3 and T4 NPSCC without distant metastases that were treated at our center using PBT between July 2003 and December 2020. These cases were classified into 3 groups based on resectability and treatment strategy: surgery followed by postoperative PBT (group A); those indicated to be resectable, but the patient refused surgery and received radical PBT (group B); and those declared unresectable based on the extent of the tumor and treated with radical PBT (group C). RESULTS: The study included 37 cases, with 10, 9 and 18 in groups A, B and C, respectively. The median follow-up period in surviving patients was 4.4 years (range 1.0-12.3 years). The 4-year overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and local control (LC) rates were 58%, 43% and 58% for all patients; 90%, 70% and 80% in group A, 89%, 78% and 89% in group B; and 24%, 11% and 24% in group C. There were significant differences in OS (p = 0.0028) and PFS (p = 0.009) between groups A and C; and in OS (p = 0.0027), PFS (p = 0.0045) and LC (p = 0.0075) between groups B and C. CONCLUSIONS: PBT gave favorable outcomes in multimodal treatment for resectable locally advanced NPSCC, including surgery followed by postoperative PBT and radical PBT with concurrent chemotherapy. The prognosis for unresectable NPSCC was extremely poor, and reconsideration of treatment strategies, such as more active use of induction chemotherapy, may improve outcomes.

This study presents the first data of a Japanese nationwide multi-institutional cohort and compares them with the findings of systematic literature reviews on radiation therapies and inoperable stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) conducted by the Lung Cancer Working Group in the Particle Beam Therapy (PBT) Committee and Subcommittee at Japanese Society for Radiation Oncology. The Lung Cancer Working Group extracted eight reports and compared their data with those of the PBT registry from May 2016 to June 2018. All the analyzed 75 patients aged ≤80 years underwent proton therapy (PT) with concurrent chemotherapy for inoperable stage III NSCLC. The median follow-up period of the surviving patients was 39.5 (range, 1.6-55.6) months. The 2- and 3-year overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival rates were 73.6%/64.7% and 28.9%/25.1%, respectively. During the follow-up period, six patients (8.0%) had adverse events of Grade ≥ 3, excluding abnormal laboratory values. These included esophagitis in four patients, dermatitis in one and pneumonitis in one. Adverse events of Grade ≥ 4 were not observed. The results of these PBT registry data in patients with inoperable stage III NSCLC suggest that the OS rate was at least equivalent to that of radiation therapy using X-rays and that the incidence of severe radiation pneumonitis was low. PT may be an effective treatment to reduce toxicities of healthy tissues, including the lungs and heart, in patients with inoperable stage III NSCLC.

BACKGROUND/AIM: To investigate the outcomes of patients with centrally located non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with proton beam therapy (PBT) using moderate hypofractionation. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 2006 and 2019, 34 patients with centrally located T1-T4N0M0 NSCLC who received moderate hypofractionated PBT were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS: The median follow-up was 50.8 months (range=5.8-100.4 months). The 3-year overall survival, progression-free survival (PFS), and local control rates were 70.4%, 55.5% and 80.5%, respectively. Grade 2 or 3 lung adverse events (AEs) after PBT were observed in five (14.7%) patients; however, grade 3 radiation pneumonitis was observed in one (2.9%) patient. Notably, no grade 4 or higher AEs were observed. Regarding the correlation between the lung dose and proximal bronchial tree maximum dose and grade 2 or higher lung AEs, a weak correlation was observed between the mean lung dose and AEs (p=0.035). Although the clinical target volume (CTV) was a risk factor for poor PFS, no significant correlation was found between the CTV and lung AEs after PBT. CONCLUSION: Moderate hypofractionated PBT may be a useful radiotherapy method for centrally located cT1-T4N0M0 NSCLC.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Radiotherapy is a salvage therapy type for postoperative recurrence of esophageal cancer. Compared to conventional photon-based radiotherapy, proton beam therapy can reduce the irradiated dose to the surrounding organs, facilitating the management of patients who are unfit for radiotherapy. In this study, the outcomes and toxicity of proton beam therapy for postoperative lymph node oligorecurrence of esophageal cancer were investigated. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated the clinical outcomes and toxicity of 13 sites in 11 patients treated with proton beam therapy for postoperative lymph node oligorecurrence of esophageal cancer. In total, eight men and three women with a median age of 68 years (range=46-83 years) were included. RESULTS: The median follow-up period was 20.2 months. During the follow-up period, four patients died of esophageal cancer. Eight of the 11 patients developed recurrence; of these, seven patients had recurrence outside the irradiated field, and one had recurrence inside and outside the irradiated field. The 2-year overall survival, progression-free survival, and local control rates were 48.0%, 27.3%, and 84.6%, respectively. The median survival time was 22.4 months. There were no severe acute or late adverse events. CONCLUSION: Proton beam therapy could be a safe and effective treatment method for postoperative lymph node oligorecurrence of esophageal cancer. It may be beneficial even in cases where conventional photon-based radiotherapy is difficult to administer in combination with increased doses or with chemotherapy.

An 80-year-old man with an approximately 3-cm mass in the right submandibular region presented to our institution. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed enlarged lymph nodes (LNs) in the right neck, and fluorine-18-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) indicated positive FDG accumulation in the right neck LNs only. Excisional biopsy was performed for suspected malignant lymphoma, and the biopsy revealed melanoma. Close examination of the skin, nasal cavity, oral pharyngeal and laryngeal cavities, and gastrointestinal tract were performed. No primary tumor was detected by these examinations, and the patient was diagnosed with cervical LN metastasis from melanoma of unknown primary of clinical stage T0N3bM0 stage IIIC. The patient refused cervical neck dissection because of his age and comorbidity of Alzheimer's disease and instead opted for proton beam therapy (PBT) at a total dose of 69 Gy (relative biological effectiveness) in 23 fractions. He did not receive any systemic therapy. The enlarged LNs shrunk slowly, and FDG PET/CT at 1 year after PBT showed that the right submandibular LN had shrunk from 27 to 7 mm in length, and there was no significant FDG accumulation. At 6 years and 4 months after PBT, the patient is alive without any recurrence.

OBJECTIVE: Elizabethkingia anophelis causes meningitis, bloodstream infections, and respiratory infections in immunocompromised individuals. We examined two E. anophelis strains isolated from the first life-threatening cases caused by this species in Japan to determine the phylogenetic origin and genomic features of them. METHODS: We performed whole genome-based analysis to clarify the genetic relationship for the two strains (EK0004 and EK0079) and Elizabethkingia sp. strains isolated from worldwide and to characterize the genomic features such as the prevalence of virulence- and antimicrobial resistance (AMR)-related genes. PATIENTS: A 29-year-old man with hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma and a 52-year-old man with systemic lupus erythematosus developed fatal bacteremia and meningitis due to E. anophelis, respectively. RESULTS: Two strains, EK0004 and EK0079, were genetically different but most closely related to the strains isolated from the largest outbreak in Wisconsin, USA from 2015 to 2016, and the strain isolated from cerebrospinal fluid of a patient in Florida, USA in 1982, respectively. The two strains contained AMR-related genes such as those encoding for an extended-spectrum ß-lactamase and multiple metallo-ß-lactamases and several virulence-related genes such as capsular polysaccharide synthesis gene clusters. CONCLUSIONS: Although further functional analyses are required to understand the virulence of these clones, these finding suggests that enough caution of E. anophelis infection in immunocompromised patients is required since the number of infections by this species is increasing outside Japan.

Lymphocytes play an important role in the cancer immune system. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the associations of lymphopenia during proton beam therapy (PBT) and concurrent chemotherapy with clinical outcomes and to determine whether lung or bone is more influential on lymphopenia during PBT. Data from 41 patients with stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received PBT of 74 GyE with concurrent chemotherapy between 2007 and 2017 were reviewed retrospectively. The correlation between dosimetry parameters obtained from dose-volume histograms of the bone and lung and lymphopenia during PBT were analyzed. Minimum absolute lymphocyte count (ALCmin) and maximum neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLRmax) were used as indicators of lymphopenia. Bone V5-20 and lung V5-50 were significantly correlated with the ALCmin and NLRmax during PBT. Multivariable analysis showed that the NLRmax, but not the ALCmin, was associated with overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS) and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS). The 3-year rates of OS, PFS and DMFS of patients with a low (≤ 6.3) versus high (> 6.3) NLRmax were 73.9% vs 44.4% (P = 0.042), 26.1% vs 5.6% (P = 0.022) and 39.1% vs 5.6% (P < 0.001), respectively. Lung V20 was significantly associated with DMFS on multivariable analyses (hazard ratio: 1.094, P = 0.008), whereas bone V5 had no impact on survival outcomes. We concluded that the NLRmax was a better prognostic indicator than the ALCmin, and the lung dose had more influence than the bone dose on the main survival outcomes in stage III NSCLC patients treated with PBT combined with concurrent chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND/AIM: To investigate the outcomes of elderly patients with cT1-3N0M0 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) undergoing proton beam therapy (PBT). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 2009 and 2019, 110 patients receiving hypofractionated PBT for cT1-3N0M0 NSCLC were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS: The median follow-up was 36.5 months (range=4.9-131.0 months). In the elderly group (80 years or older), the 3-year overall survival and progression-free survival rates were 79.8% and 73.9%, respectively, and the corresponding rates in the younger group were 80.5% and 61.2%, respectively. Grade 3 radiation pneumonitis (RP) was observed in 4.4% patients in the young group, whereas no grade 3 RP was observed in the elderly group. Age was not a risk factor for symptomatic RP. There were no significant differences in the survival and adverse events between the elderly and younger groups. CONCLUSION: PBT may be a reasonable approach for treating lung cancer in elderly patients with T1-3N0M0 NSCLC.

OBJECTIVE: The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) is a simple and well-established nutritional assessment tool. Although concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT), particularly cisplatin-based CCRT, is a standard treatment for locoregional advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), the predictive factors of adverse events related to CCRT remain to be elucidated. The present study aimed to determine the association between GNRI and CCRT-related adverse events in patients of all ages with head and neck cancer (HNC) who underwent CCRT. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed and compared the clinical characteristics and adverse events of 82 patients with HNC treated with CCRT according to their GNRI at the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, University of Tsukuba Hospital, between May 2014 and November 2019. The GNRI was calculated according to the equation: 1.489 × serum albumin (g/L) + 41.7 × (body weight/ideal body weight). We compared two groups: low GNRI (GNRI < 98) and normal GNRI (GNRI ≥ 98) groups. RESULTS: Eighty-two patients were enrolled in this study. There were 61 (76%) and 21 (26%) patients in the normal GNRI group and low GNRI group, respectively. There were significant differences in the incidence of grade ≥ 3 radiation mucositis, radiation dermatitis, and leukopenia between the low GNRI group and the normal GNRI groups. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with low GNRI scores were more likely to have severe adverse events. Pretreatment GNRI predicted severe CCRT-related adverse events in patients of all ages with HNC undergoing CCRT.
