RESUMO
The biophysical stimulation of bone and cartilage, using Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Fields (PEMF), covers many different aspects of bone formation and/or cartilage repair, such as healing of delayed or non-union of fracture, bone necrosis, osteocartilagineous defects. To date there are no specific data on the effects of PEMFs in osteointegration of prosthetic implants but there are some papers that denote clinical advantages, in terms of early recovery, in patients treated with these procedures. Considering these clinical applications, PEMF stimulation around hip or knee joint implants could be useful to reduce the bone oedema, pain and to reduce excessive bone reabsorption around the femoral stems.

Rehabilitation after hip arthroplasty is aimed at improving the results obtained with surgery and allowing the elderly patient to resume a normal daily life as quickly as possible. The correct use of the prosthesis positively influences its duration. Full weight-bearing on the limb submitted to surgery is allowed at different times: days 7-8 if the prosthesis is cemented. When the prosthesis is cementless the proper time for full weight-bearing is established by the orthopaedist, and it is usually allowed on days 30-40. Walking initially makes use of a walker, followed by parallel, and finally antibrachial support.

The Authors report five cases of benign neoplasm of the stomach: 2 leiomyoblastomas, 2 leiomyomas and 1 ganglioneuroblastoma, underlining its rarity. After a review of the literature, the anatomo-pathological, clinical and therapeutical findings are described. The difficulty of early diagnosis is underline and the need for surgical therapy states.
