Cerebral salt wasting syndrome.

Hyponatremia following acute or chronic central nervous system injury which is due to excessive Na+ loss in the urine without an increase in the body fluid, has been described as Cerebral Salt Wasting Syndrome (CSWS). This syndrome is often confused with dilutional hyponatremia secondary to inappropriate ADH secretion. Accurate diagnosis and management are mandatory for to improve the course of the disease. In this study a patient with CSW Syndrome is presented and the treatment and diagnosis of this syndrome are discussed in view of the literature.

CT and MR imaging of vertebral osteoblastoma. A report of two cases.

Two patients with spinal osteoblastoma evaluated with computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are presented. A brief literature review is added.

Intracerebral schwannoma: case report and review.

A case of intraparenchymal schwannoma of the brain in a 4-year-old girl is presented. Most of the small number of intracranial schwannomas unassociated with cranial nerves, reported have occurred in children or young adults. There is no male or female predominance. Most of the parenchymatous schwannomas are located supratentorially. The presence of a cyst together with the tumor appears to be characteristic of intraparenchymal schwannoma of the brain.

Multiple and infected cerebral hydatid cysts. Case report.

A case of multiple and infected cerebral hydatid cysts is described. The diagnosis was based on operation and histopathology. So far only two infected cysts have been described in the English literature.

A giant meningioma of the fourth ventricle associated with Sturge-Weber disease.

A case of meningioma without dural attachment within the fourth ventricle associated with Sturge-Weber disease is reported. Review of the literature revealed that meningiomas arising from the choroid plexus of the fourth ventricle and lying totally within the fourth ventricle are very rare. Coexistence of Sturge-Weber disease with meningioma of the fourth ventricle has never been reported, as far as we could find out.

Brain tumour associated with intracranial arterial aneurysm.

Four cases of brain tumour associated with intracranial aneurysm are presented, and the available literature is reviewed. The association of brain tumours and arterial aneurysms is not well documented in neurosurgical literature. Reports of the association of giant aneurysms with brain tumours are rare. We could find only five such cases, and one of our cases is the sixth. The operative mortality of the patient with coexisting brain tumour and cerebral aneurysm is high. Two of our cases died postoperatively, one from pre-existing cardiac disease, and the other from hypothalamic vascular insuffiency related to surgery.

Intracranial tuberculomas.

In this paper the clinical findings, operation results and histological diagnosis of eight patients with intracranial tuberculomas are described, which were admitted to the Neurosurgical Clinic of Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine, during the years 1967-1975, among the 1,015 histologically verified intracranial tumours. Our impression by reviewing previous papers on this matter is, that although tuberculomas are not so frequently seen as before, they still count as a certain percentage in Turkey.

Vertebral arteriography and microsurgery in the management of dumbbell cervical neurinomas.

Preoperative vertebral angiography is advised when the vertebral artery may be compromised by a large cervical neurinoma. The surgical removal of this type of tumor, particularly when its foraminal extension involves the vertebral artery, is facilitated by the use of the operating microscope.
